Abstract

Objectives: To explore contemporary antibiotic management of infections caused by carbapenem-resistant Gram-negative bacteria in hospitals. Methods: Cross-sectional, internet-based questionnaire survey. We contacted representatives of all hospitals with more than 800 acute-care hospital beds in France, Greece, Israel, Italy, Kosovo, Slovenia, Spain and selected hospitals in the USA. We asked respondents to describe the most common actual practice at their hospital regarding management of carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae, Acinetobacter baumannii and Pseudomonas aeruginosa through close-ended questions. Results: Between January and June 2017, 115 of 141 eligible hospitals participated (overall response rate 81.6%, country-specific rates 66.7%–100%). Most were tertiary-care (99/114, 86.8%), university-affiliated (110/115, 89.1%) hospitals and most representatives were infectious disease specialists (99/115, 86.1%). Combination therapy was prescribed in 114/115 (99.1%) hospitals at least occasionally. Respondents were more likely to consider combination therapy when treating bacteraemia, pneumonia and central nervous system infections and for Enterobacteriaceae, P. aeruginosa and A. baumannii similarly. Combination of a polymyxin with a carbapenem was used in most cases, whereas combinations of a polymyxin with tigecycline, an aminoglycoside, fosfomycin or rifampicin were also common. Monotherapy was used for treatment of complicated urinary tract infections, usually with an aminoglycoside or a polymyxin. The intended goal of combination therapy was to improve the effectiveness of the treatment and to prevent development of resistance. In general, respondents shared the misconception that combination therapy is supported by strong scientific evidence. Conclusions: Combination therapy was the preferred treatment strategy for infections caused by carbapenem-resistant Gram-negative bacteria among hospital representatives, even though high-quality evidence for carbapenem-based combination therapy is lacking. © 2018 European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases

Abstract

Fruit and vegetable (F&V) intake is considered as probably protective against overall cancer risk, but results in previous studies are not consistent for thyroid cancer (TC). The purpose of this study is to examine the association between the consumption of fruits, vegetables, fruit juices and differentiated thyroid cancer risk within the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC) study. The EPIC study is a cohort including over half a million participants, recruited between 1991 and 2000. During a mean follow-up of 14 years, 748 incident first primary differentiated TC cases were identified. F&V and fruit juice intakes were assessed through validated country-specific dietary questionnaires. Hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were estimated using Cox regression models adjusted for potential confounding factors. Comparing the highest versus lowest quartile of intake, differentiated TC risk was not associated with intakes of total F&V (HR: 0.89; 95% CI: 0.68–1.15; p-trend = 0.44), vegetables (HR: 0.89; 95% CI: 0.69–1.14; p-trend = 0.56), or fruit (HR: 1.00; 95% CI: 0.79–1.26; p-trend = 0.64). No significant association was observed with any individual type of vegetable or fruit. However, there was a positive borderline trend with fruit juice intake (HR: 1.23; 95% CI: 0.98–1.53; p-trend = 0.06). This study did not find any significant association between F&V intakes and differentiated TC risk; however a positive trend with fruit juice intake was observed, possibly related to its high sugar content. © 2017 UICC

Abstract

Low-spin states of 184Au have been studied using the β+/EC decay of 184Hg. γ-ray and conversion-electron singles spectra were recorded with 184Hg mass-separated sources. For γ-γ-t and X-γ-t coincidence measurements, mercury nuclei were produced in the 148Sm + 40Ar reaction and transported by a He-jet system. The electron spectra were recorded from 184Hg sources produced at ISOLDE. A level scheme of 184Au including 48 transitions is proposed. The experimental results are interpreted in the frame of a semi-microscopic axial-rotor-plus-two-quasiparticle model developed in the context of the HF+BCS approximation.

Abstract

The neutron-rich 57−59 Ti, 59−62 V, 61−64 Cr, 63−66 Mn, 65−68 Fe, 67−70 Co have been produced at GANIL via interactions of a 60.4 MeV/u 86 Kr 34+ with a 58 Ni target. They have been separated by the doubly achromatic spectrometer LISE3. Beta-decay half-lives have been determined for all produced nuclei, and subsequent γ -rays have been observed for the most efficiently produced nuclei. The measured half-lives of vanadium and chromium isotopes are compared to QRPA calculations using ground states deformations from the FRDM or ETFSI models. In an astrophysical context, the short half-lives of 58 Ti and 64 Cr indicate that these nuclei are potential r-process progenitors, after β -decay, of 58 Fe and 64 Ni in certain inclusions of meteorites.

Abstract

At the Jyvaskyla IGISOL facility, different ion guide designs are used for different types of reactions. The performance of these ion guides is summarized. The limitations for performing nuclear decay studies and collinear laser spectroscopy due to the large beam energy spread and the presence of isobars will be removed after the installation of an ion beam cooler to reduce the energy spread and a longitudinal penning trap for performing isobaric mass separation. These new developments will bring the capabilities of the IGISOL facility to a new level.

Abstract

The complete spectrum of [gamma] rays following the decay of superdeformed (SD) states in [sup 192]Hg has been extracted. The spectrum, which comprises a quasicontinuous component and sharp lines, reveals the decay mechanism and defines the excitation energies of the SD band. The decay of SD states results from the coupling between a cold, ordered SD system with a hot, chaotic one with normal deformation.

Abstract

A new ion guide chamber has been designed for heavy-ion (HI) induced fusion—evaporation reactions. Its principle is based on the beam projectiles-evaporation residues separation which is achieved by taking advantage of their very different angular distributions after passing a thick target. In this work it is proved that the IGISOL technique can be applied with an overall efficiency > 10 −3 for the study of mass-separated exotic nuclei produced in (HI, x n) reactions.

Abstract

The192Hg nucleus was populated in the160Gd(36S, 4n) reaction at a beam energy of E=159 MeV. Emittedγ-rays were detected with the EUROGAM array comprising 43 Compton-suppressed large volume Ge detectors. The level scheme of192Hg has been extended up to an excitation energy of E=10.4 MeV and spin I=34 ħ. Two new structures, made of competing ΔI=1 and ΔI=2 transitions have been observed and their connexions with the low-lying levels established. Their lowest levels are located at 6.304 MeV and 6.879 MeV excitation energy. The experimental results are compared with mean-field HF+BCS calculations. It is proposed that the new structures originate from deformation-aligned quasi-proton excitations π(i13/2 * h9/2)K=11 andπ (h9/2) K=8 2 , coupled to rotation-aligned quasi-neutron ν(i13/2)n and quasi-proton π(h11/2)2 excitations.

Abstract

Isomeric low-lying states were identified and investigated in the {sup 75}Cu nucleus. Two states at 61.8(5)- and 128.3(7)-keV excitation energies with half-lives of 370(40)- and 170(15)-ns were assigned as {sup 75m1}Cu and {sup 75m2}Cu, respectively. The measured half-lives combined with the recent spin assignment of the ground state allow one to deduce tentatively spin and parity of the two isomers and the dominant multipolarities of the isomeric transitions with respect to the systematics of the Cu isotopes. Shell-model calculations using an up-to-date effective interaction reproduce the evolution of the 1/2{sup -}, 3/2{sup -}, and 5/2{sup -} states for the neutron-rich odd-mass Cu isotopes when filling the nug{sub 9/2}. The results indicate a significant change in the nuclear structure in this region, where a single-particle 5/2{sup -} state coexists with more and more collective 3/2{sup -} and 1/2{sup -} levels at low excitation energies.

Abstract

The219Ra levels, fed by the α-decay of223Th, have been studied by anα−γ coincidence experiment. AK=1/2+ band, based on the 7/2+ ground state, with a large decoupling parameter a=−5.5 is proposed. Three levels with spins 5/2, 9/2, 7/2 and lowα-hindrance factors around 140 keV, can be considered as members of aK=5/2+ band, perturbed by the Coriolis coupling of configurations arising from theg9/2 shell. TheseK =1/2+ and 5/2+ orbitals are expected forN=131 in the reflection asymmetry model with ɛ2≃ɛ3−0.1. How-ever no evidence was found for the corresponding negative parity bands in this transitional nucleus.

Abstract

A new ion guide isotope separator on-line (IGISOL), operating with the SARA facility, has been constructed. Using the 238U(α 40 MeV, ƒ) reaction to produce very neutron-rich radioisotopes, all mass chains from A = 96 to 122 have been scanned by conventional methods of nuclear spectroscopy. Provided the stopping volume is separated from the primary beam, it has been proved that the yield is nearly proportional to the He pressure. In addition to the usual advantages (quasi-independence from physical and chemical properties of elements), this makes IGISOL a powerful technique for high energy recoil products. During the experiments the boundary of known neutron-rich nuclei was reached such as 117Rh(440 ms) and several unknown activities were detected in the range A = 113–118.

Abstract

The collective structure of 110 Ru and 112 Ru has been studied at the IGISOL facility through the beta decay of 110 Tc and 112 Tc. Neutron-rich technetium isotopes were produced by the 238 U(p, f) reaction at 20 MeV bombarding energy. The new isotope 112 Tc was found to decay with a half-life of 280(30) ms. The observed energies of the 2 + and 4 + ground state band levels in 108,110,112 Ru are almost the same. However, a steady energy decrease of the proposed gamma band head is observed with increasing neutron number, suggesting importance of triaxiality in these nuclei. In fact, only in 192 Os the second 2 + state has been observed at lower excitation than in 112 Ru. The static deformation of 108,110,110 Ru isotopes has been investigated in microscopic lattice Hartree-Fock calculations. The obtained potential energy surfaces predict that these isotopes are deformed (β ∼ 0.3), with a quasidegeneracy associated with γ-deformation, and suggest that the γ-asymmetry softness increases with the neutron number for neutron-rich ruthenium isotopes.

Matière Nucléaire; The $\beta$-decay properties of the neutron-deficient nuclei $^{25}$Si and $^{26}$P have been investigated at the GANIL/LISE3 facility by means of charged-particle and $\gamma$-ray spectroscopy. The decay schemes obtained and the Gamow-Teller strength distributions are compared to shell-model calculations based on the USD interaction. B(GT) values derived from the absolute measurement of the $\beta$-decay branching ratios give rise to a quenching factor of the Gamow-Teller strength of 0.6. A precise half-life of 43.7 (6) ms was determined for $^{26}$P, the $\beta$- (2)p decay mode of which is described.

Abstract

The HIGISOL facility has been used to investigate carefully the isomeric transition 228.5 keV in 80Y. We have measured the electron internal conversion coefficient for this transition αK = 0.50 ± 0.07 which gives the value for half-life of “bare” isomeric state T 1/2 = 6.8 ± 0.5 s. The isomeric state should play an important role in the rp-process calculations.

Decay-spectroscopy study of the 67mFe isomer has been performed at GANIL. This isomer is found to have an energy of 387 keV and a half-life of 75(21) μs. An intermediate excited state is introduced at 367 keV. The results are interpreted in terms of various nuclear models, and a deformed shape is inferred for 67Fe.

Abstract

Neutron‐deficient nuclei with Tz equals to −3/2 and −2 have been produced at the GANIL/LISE3 facility in fragmentation reactions of a 95 MeV/u 36Ar primary beam in a 12C target. For the first time, β‐delayed proton and β‐γ emission has been simultaneously observed in the decay of 21Mg, 25Si and 26P. The decay scheme of the latter is proposed and the Gamow‐Teller strength distribution in its β decay is compared to shell‐model calculations based on the USD interaction. The B(GT) values derived from the absolute measurement of the β‐branching ratios are in agreement with the quenching factor of about 60% obtained for allowed Gamow‐Teller transitions in this mass region. A precise half‐life of 43.7 (6) ms was determined for 26P, the β‐2p emission of which was studied. The expected contribution of spectroscopic studies of neutron‐rich nuclei is discussed with respect to the mirror asymmetry phenomenon occuring in analogous β decays.

Abstract

The ion guide [1, 2] for heavy-ion fusion-evaporation reactions (HIGISOL) which was developed by Beraud et al. [3] has been implemented at the IGISOL facility in Jyvaskyla [4]. This system was modified over the past 5 years. Figure 1 shows the present set-up. The HIGISOL takes advantage of the different angular distributions of primary beam and reaction products: the primary beam is stopped in front of the stopping chamber and the reaction products enter the stopping chamber through a thin foil passing the beam stop. This so called “shadow” method removes the plasma effect since the primary beam is not ionising the stopping gas. In order to improve ion optical properties, mainly to reduce the energy spread, the normal skimmer system was replaced by a sextupole ion guide, SPIG. The mass resolving power (MRP) for a 219Rn ion beam was measured to be 1100, independent of the helium pressure and SPIG DC voltage level relative to the stopping chamber [6]. The MRP measured earlier with the skimmer was 250 for 219Xe [4].

Abstract

A new HIGISOL chamber devoted to the study of short-lived products from heavy-ion-induced fusion-evaporation reactions is proposed. It enables, via the extraction of ions by means of a SPIG (SextuPole rf Ion Guide), to improve the mass resolving power by a factor 2.5 compared to the previous system using a skimmer-ring assembly. The gas cell was also equiped with an electric field for faster transportation of recoiling ions to the nozzle where they are ejected with the gas jet. The first results obtained both with a radioactive α-source and cyclotron beam will be reported.

Abstract

5 pages, 7 figures.-- PACS nrs: 21.10.Tg; 23.20.Nx; 27.50.+e., A careful investigation of the isomeric transition of the long-lived state at 228.5 keV excitation energy in Y-80 has been done. The HIGISOL facility at the Jyvaskyla isochronous cyclotron has been used. We used the electron magnetic transporter to prepare an appropriate source and to measure the electron spectra in clean background conditions. The measured internal conversion coefficient α(K) = 0.50 ± 0.07 allows unambiguous 1(-) identification for the 228.5 keV first excited isomeric state in Y-80. With a "bare" half-life of 6.8 ± 0.5 s found in this work, this state is strongly populated in the rp-process during X-ray bursts and has therefore to be taken into account in X-ray burst model calculations. However, because of the similarity of the β-decay half-lives of isomeric and ground states, we find a maximum reduction in the effective β-decay lifetime of Y-80 of only 17 ± 2%. Our results pave the way for a future investigation of the impact of the isomeric state on the "effective" Y-80 proton capture rate., This work has been supported by the European Union Fifth Framework Programme “Improving Human Potential – Access to Research Infrastructure”. Abstract

In an experiment performed at the GANIL LISE3 facility, radioactive 27S isotopes have been produced by projectile fragmentation of a 95 AMeV 36Ar primary beam. After selection by means of the LISE3 separator, the isotope of interest was implanted in a silicon-detector telescope where its half-life ( T 1/2 = 15.5(15) ms) and its main decay branches were measured.

Abstract

Microsecond yrast isomers were observed in the ${}^{125,127,129}\mathrm{Sn}$ isotopes. These nuclei are produced by thermal neutron induced fission of ${}^{233}\mathrm{U}$ and ${}^{239}\mathrm{Pu}.$ The detection is based on time correlation between fission fragments selected by the LOHENGRIN spectrometer at ILL (Grenoble) and the $\ensuremath{\gamma}$ rays or conversion electrons from isomers. In this paper, the decay schemes of the new ${19/2}^{+}$ yrast isomers in ${}^{125,127,129}\mathrm{Sn}$ are reported. The measured low-lying negative parity states are compared with the results of various calculations. This work suggests also the presence of high spin $\ensuremath{\beta}$ isomers in ${}^{127,129}\mathrm{In}.$

Abstract

A new isomeric state in 78Zn has been identified and studied in the fragmentation of a 60.5 AMeV 86Kr beam on a natNi target. The measured energies of the transitions and the half-life, T1/2=319(9) ns, of the isomeric decay suggest a spin and parity assignment F=S+. The deduced B(E2,S+ -+ 6+) value equals 1.21(5) W.u. is well reproduced in large scale shell model calculations using realistic interactions in the proton-neutron 2p3/2, 1f5/2' 2p1/2' 199 / 2 model space. Standard E2 polarisation charges of D.5e for both protons and neutrons were used. This result consists the first experimental evidence of the persistance of the N=50 shell gap in the vicinity f 78N' o 28 150·

Abstract

Excited states in the nuclei with Z{approx}28 and N{approx}40 have been studied. These neutron-rich nuclei have been produced in the fragmentation reaction of a {sup 86}Kr beam at 60.3 MeV/ nucl. The decays of isomers populated in the fragmentation are detected at the final focus of the spectrometer in event-by-event microsecond correlation with identified recoils. Several new isomers with half-lives {approx}300 ns have been discovered including the very exotic {sup 78m}Zn. A puzzling result of the performed experiment, the non-observation of expected I{sup {pi}}=8{sup +} isomers in {sup 72}Ni and {sup 74}Ni nuclei is also reported. Abstract

Production of neutron-deficient isotopes of refractory elements in the A = 80-88 region was studied using the IGISOL technique and the 165 MeV Si-32 + Ni-nat reaction. Radioactive isotopes of Y through Mo could be produced up to the M-T = + 1 line. New information on the decay of the A = 82 and 85 nuclei, including a more detailed decay scheme and more accurate half-life for Y-82, was obtained. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. Abstract

The ion guide for heavy-ion-induced reactions developed originally for the SARA facility in Grenoble has been implemented at the Jyvaskyla IGISOL facility. For the Cd-116(Ar-40, 6n)Dy-150 reaction an efficiency of 0.5% relative to the number of reaction products entering the stopping chamber was obtained. This is 3.5 times higher than previously obtained at SARA and corresponds to a yield of about 100 ions/(p mu C mb). Mass-separated yields for the Ar-36 + Mo-92 and Ar-36 + Mo-94 reactions were measured. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Several μs isomers have been observed in the mass range A=88–109. The detection is based on time correlation between reaction products selected by the LOHENGRIN spectrometer and the γ-rays depopulating the isomers. Three new isomers have been observed in 94Y, 96Rb, and 106Nb.

Abstract

Low-lying levels of the 129La isotope have been investigated through the β+/EC decay of 129Ce. The radioactive nuclei were produced in the 94Mo+40Ca reaction at a bombarding energy of 255 MeV and transported with a He-jet system. On-line mass separation was used to select the 129Ce beta-decay γ-γ-t, X- γ- t, e−-γ -t coincidence measurements as well as time multi-analysis were performed. Internal conversion electrons were recorded with a magnetic selector and multipolarities deduced. The level scheme of 129La is discussed and compared with the calculations made in the frame of the neutron-proton Interacting Boson-Fermion Model (IBFM-2).

Abstract

The 129Nd activities were produced by bombarding 92,94Mo targets with 210 or 255 MeV 40Ca beams. Mass identification was made using the IGISOL technique. A measured β-decay half-life of 7(1)s was assigned to 129Nd. A new low-lying level scheme has been built for 129Pr. The 11/2− state is proposed to be isomeric at 383 keV excitation energy.

Abstract

From new measurements, a half-live of 4.2±0.3 s has been clearly established in127Pr. This value confirms our first result [4] and rules out other data [5]. The127Pr activity was produced by bombarding92Mo or94Mo targets with 210 MeV40Ca beams. The mass identification has been made using an ion-guide coupled with an on-line isotope separator. The partial level scheme proposed for127Ce has been deduced from β-gated γ spectra and Xγ- and γγ-coincidences. A new band structure based on a 1/2+ state is established.

Abstract

A controversy has arisen over the existence, or not, of a superdeformed rotational band in192Pb. We have carried out an experiment using the168Er(3OSi, 6n)192Pb reaction at 159 MeV and have observed the coincidentγ rays in the EUROGAM 2 spectrometer. We confirm the original result of Henry et al. that a superdeformed band exists in192Pb.

Abstract

The lowlying level scheme of the oddodd nucleus132Pr has been investigated for the first time. The radioactive nuclei were produced by bombarding96Mo targets with 225 MeV40Ca beam. Levels have been populated from the132Nd β- decay. A new value of its halflife has been measured: T1/2=88±7 s. The mass identification has been made with an ionguide coupled with an online isotope separator. γ- γ- t, X-γ-t and e−-γ-t coincidence measurements have been performed. The observed distribution of the level feedings is similar to that of the neighbouring odd-odd nuclei.

Abstract

Theβ-decays of172–175Ir have been studied using a Hejet system through32S induced reactions,β half-lives have been measured and compared with those given fromα decays. The level schemes of osmium nuclei are deduced and for172Os and174Os, the 22+ level is possibly located. The observedβ-decay half-lives clearly indicate an isomerism phenomenon occuring in light Ir isotopes.

Abstract

Levels in 125La have been studied via β+/EC decay of on-line mass-separated 125Ce using the HIGISOL technique. A new (390 ± 40) ms isomer is definitely attributed to 125La by conversion electron measurements of the 107 keV E3 isomeric transition.

Abstract

The 192Hg nucleus has been produced via the 36S(160Gd, 4n) reaction at a beam energy of 159 MeV. The γ-rays have been detected with the multi-detector array EUROGAM phase 1. The level scheme has been extended up to 10.4 MeV excitation energy and spin 34. Two new structures, composed of competing ΔI = 1 and ΔI = 2 transitions, have been observed and, for the first time in Mercury isotopes, some links with the previously known low-lying states have been established. These experimental results are discussed in terms of mean-field Hartree-Fock plus BCS calculations and the new bands are proposed to originate from deformation-aligned quasi-proton excitations. π(i13/2 * h9/2)kπ=11 and π(h9/2)2kπ=8+ coupled to rotation-aligned quasi-neutrons v(i13/2)n and quasi-proton π(h11/2)2 excitations.

Abstract

New results on the192Hg superdeformed band have been obtained with EUROGAM. The experiment has been performed with the160Gd(36S,4n) reaction at 159 MeV. Above 800 keV the γ-ray energies differ from the previously published ones. Thus the rise of the dynamical moment of inertia\(\mathfrak{F}^{(2)} \) above ħω=0.4 MeV is no longer observed. This is in better agreement with recent cranked Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov calculations.

Abstract

Low-spin states in doubly-odd184Au have been populated in the β+/EC decay of184Hg produced by bombarding184Sm targets with an 185 MeV40Ar beam. Radioactive Hg nuclei were transported by a He jet system. A new level scheme has been established from γ-γ-t and X-γ-t coincidence measurements. Spin and parity values Iπ=5+, Iπ =2+ and Iπ=3− were assigned to the ground state and the two isomeric states of184Au, respectively. The structure of these states is discussed using B(E1) values.

Abstract

Recent data from the EUROGAM array have revealed the population of the yrast superdeformed (SD) band of192Hg in the α4n exit channel of the16O+184W reaction at 113 MeV beam energy. The nucleus assignment was made on the basis of the SD band transition energies, and the observation of characteristic X-rays and lowlying yrast γ-transition of192Hg in coincidence with the SD band γ-rays. Both the feeding and decay-out patterns of the observed SD band have been found similar to the ones previously measured in the (36S,4n) reaction.

A new activity with a 3s half-life at mass 182 was produced via proton spoliation reaction on thorium carbide target and mass separation. From the observation of known γ rays observed in182Hg, it was assigned to the (β++ EC) decay of182Tl, the spin and parity of which is very likely 7+.

Abstract

High-spin excited levels of 100,102,104Rh have been investigated in 96,98,100Mo(7Li, 3nγ) reactions. Standard in-beam γ-ray measurements involving relative excitation functions, γγt coincidences, angular distributions and linear polarization have been performed. Three level schemes including states up to I = 14 are proposed. This study gives the relative position of the 2− and 6+ states of 102Rh, which is also confirmed by an additional decay measurement. The analogy between the three level schemes has been pointed out. Especially, a Δ I = 1 negative-parity band based on a 8− level has been established and interpreted in the framework of the rotor-plus-two-quasiparticle (πg92νh112) model.

Abstract

The 104,105Cd nuclei have been investigated in the 102Pd( alpha ,2n gamma )104Cd, 102Pd( alpha ,n gamma )105Cd and 104Pd( alpha ,3n gamma )105Cd reactions. The proposed level schemes including states up to 4817.7 keV and 3342.9 keV for 104Cd and 105Cd respectively are based on results obtained from direct and delayed gamma -ray spectra, excitation functions gamma - gamma coincidences and gamma -ray angular distributions. Intense E2 cascades have been observed in the nucleus 104Cd. Decoupled bands built on the nu h11/2 and on nu g7/2 are populated in 105Cd.

Abstract

The isotopes 108 Cd and 106 Cd have been studied from the β + /EC decay of 108m + g In and 106m + g In with the ISOCELE facility. Gamma-ray, conversion electron, γγt and e − γt coincidence measurements have been performed and level schemes of 108 Cd and 106 Cd have been built. A 0 + excited state has been clearly established at 1913.2 keV in 108 Cd. The properties of the excited states are discussed in terms of the vibrator-plus-particle approach and the interacting boson approximation. The present results lead us to assign the spin and parity value I π = 7 + for the isomeric state in 108 In and in 106 In; this is discussed in the framework of the jj -coupling model.

A decay level scheme is proposed including states up to 4659.8 keV. IntenseE2 transition cascades have been observed. The half-life of an isomeric level located at 4659.8 keV has been measured:T1/2= 62±6ns.
