A new proposition of passive (no external DC bias) memristor emulator (MRE) utilizing DTMOS technique which consists of four MOSFETs and a capacitor has been presented. The proposed MRE exhibits high operating frequency $(\sim 500~\mathrm {MHz})$ , zero static power and shows incremental behavior. The conventional mathematical equation of MRE has been derived considering the second-order effects of all the MOSFETs utilized. The proposed circuit has been simulated by the Cadence Virtuoso (IC617) spectre tool using $180 \mathrm {~nm}$ technology parameters. The layout occupies $1305 \mu \mathrm {m}^{2}$ area. The experimental verification has been carried out utilizing ALD1116 and ALD1117 dual N-channel and P-channel MOSFET arrays to demonstrate the practical viability. Finally, different possible applications namely; analog filters, oscillators (simple and chaotic), Schmitt trigger, Amoeba learning have been realized using proposed MRE to show its neuromorphic capability. Also, new logical AND & OR and NOT circuit configurations have been designed using proposed MRE.

Abstract The Pandora Software Development Kit and algorithm libraries provide pattern-recognition logic essential to the reconstruction of particle interactions in liquid argon time projection chamber detectors. Pandora is the primary event reconstruction software used at ProtoDUNE-SP, a prototype for the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment far detector. ProtoDUNE-SP, located at CERN, is exposed to a charged-particle test beam. This paper gives an overview of the Pandora reconstruction algorithms and how they have been tailored for use at ProtoDUNE-SP. In complex events with numerous cosmic-ray and beam background particles, the simulated reconstruction and identification efficiency for triggered test-beam particles is above 80% for the majority of particle type and beam momentum combinations. Specifically, simulated 1 GeV/c charged pions and protons are correctly reconstructed and identified with efficiencies of 86.1 $$\pm 0.6$$ ± 0.6 % and 84.1 $$\pm 0.6$$ ± 0.6 %, respectively. The efficiencies measured for test-beam data are shown to be within 5% of those predicted by the simulation.

The objective of the study was to compare the effect of replacing maize in quail (Coturnix japonica) diet with bakery waste (BaW) @ 0% (T0), 5% (T1), 10% (T2), 15% (T3) and 20% (T4) on growth, carcass traits, blood and sensory attributes. A day old, 300 commercial straight run quail chicks were randomly allocated to five different treatment groups (n=60 birds/group) for a period of 6 weeks. Eight birds per group were slaughtered at 42 days of age to evaluate carcass and sensory attributes. Result signifies that birds of all groups performed similar in terms of body weight gain, feed conversion and protein efficiency ratio. Also, estimated blood biochemical parameters showed no difference at all replacement levels. Similarly, carcass trait yields, small intestine micrometry and sensory attributes were also statistically similar. It was concluded that maize flakes in quail diet can be safely replaced by BaW up to 20%, without any negative impact.

A feeding trial (60 days) was conducted to gauge the nutritional attributes of boiled potato (Solanum tuberosum) peel waste silage and to analyse its feeding effect on intake and utilization of nutrients in goats. Twelve local, non-descript, adult male goats were randomly divided into two groups. Each group was given ad lib. wheat straw, concentrate mixture @ 20 g/KgW0.75 and silage @ 75 g/KgW0.75 Based on variation in source of silage the groups were classified as maize silage (MS) or potato peel waste silage (PPS) groups. Despite the higher crude protein concentration PPS could be successfully ensiled with achievement of necessary pH fall, possibly due to effect of boiling on starch granules to render it readily fermentable and/or heat damaged CP. In both the groups live weight of the goats was maintained throughout the trial. The PPS formed about 20.2% of the total ration intake (on DM basis). Nutrient digestibility (%) was similar between dietary groups, except NFE and NDF digestibility, which was considerably higher in PPS group. It may be concluded that the ensiled boiled potato peel waste may be utilized as a constituent of adult goat ration without compromising nutrient intake, digestibility, plane of nutrition and nutrient balance.

Abstract Liquid argon time projection chamber detector technology provides high spatial and calorimetric resolutions on the charged particles traversing liquid argon. As a result, the technology has been used in a number of recent neutrino experiments, and is the technology of choice for the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE). In order to perform high precision measurements of neutrinos in the detector, final state particles need to be effectively identified, and their energy accurately reconstructed. This article proposes an algorithm based on a convolutional neural network to perform the classification of energy deposits and reconstructed particles as track-like or arising from electromagnetic cascades. Results from testing the algorithm on experimental data from ProtoDUNE-SP, a prototype of the DUNE far detector, are presented. The network identifies track- and shower-like particles, as well as Michel electrons, with high efficiency. The performance of the algorithm is consistent between experimental data and simulation.

Abstract Early and precise pregnancy diagnosis can reduce the calving interval by minimizing postpartum period. The present study explored the differential urinary metabolites between pregnant and non-pregnant Murrah buffaloes (Bubalus bubalis) during early gestation to identify potential pregnancy detection biomarkers. Urine samples were collected on day 0, 10, 18, 35 and 42 of gestation from the pregnant (n = 6) and on day 0, 10 and 18 post-insemination from the non-pregnant (n = 6) animals. 1H-NMR-based untargeted metabolomics followed by multivariate analysis initially identified twenty-four differentially expressed metabolites, among them 3-Hydroxykynurenine, Anthranilate, Tyrosine and 5-Hydroxytryptophan depicted consistent trends and matched the selection criteria of potential biomarkers. Predictive ability of these individual biomarkers through ROC curve analyses yielded AUC values of 0.6–0.8. Subsequently, a logistic regression model was constructed using the most suitable metabolite combination to improve diagnostic accuracy. The combination of Anthranilate, 3-Hydroxykynurenine, and Tyrosine yielded the best AUC value of 0.804. Aromatic amino acid biosynthesis, Tryptophan metabolism, Phenylalanine and Tyrosine metabolism were identified as potential pathway modulations during early gestation. The identified biomarkers were either precursors or products of these metabolic pathways, thus justifying their relevance. The study facilitates precise non-invassive urinary metabolite-based pen-side early pregnancy diagnostics in buffaloes, eminently before 21 days post-insemination.

Abstract Silicon wet bulk micromachining is the most widely used technique for the fabrication of diverse microstructures such as cantilevers, cavities, etc. in laboratory as well as in industry for micro-electromechanical system (MEMS) application. Although, increasing the throughput remains inevitable, and can be done by increasing the etching rate. Furthermore, freestanding structure release time can be reduced by the improved undercutting rate at convex corners. In this work, we have investigated the etching characteristics of a non-conventional etchant in the form of hydroxylamine (NH2OH) added sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution. This research is focused on Si{100} wafer as this orientation is largely used in the fabrication of planer devices (e.g., complementary metal-oxide semiconductors) and microelectromechanical systems (e.g., inertial sensors). We have performed a systematic and parametric analysis without and with 12% NH2OH in 10 M NaOH for improved etching characteristics such as etch rate, undercutting at convex corners, and etched surface morphology. 3D scanning laser microscope is used to measure average surface roughness (R a ), etch depth (d), and undercutting length (l). Morphology of the etched Si{100} surface is examined using optical and scanning electron microscopes. The addition of NH2OH in NaOH solution remarkably exhibited a two-fold increment in the etching rate of a Si{100} surface. Furthermore, the addition of NH2OH significantly improves the etched surface morphology and undercutting at convex corners. Undercutting at convex corners is highly prudent for the quick release of microstructures from the substrate. In addition, we have studied the effect of etchant age on etching characteristics. Results presented in this article are of large significance for engineering applications in both academic and industrial laboratories.

Abstract DUNE is a dual-site experiment for long-baseline neutrino oscillation studies, neutrino astrophysics and nucleon decay searches. ProtoDUNE Dual Phase (DP) is a 6 $$\times $$ × 6 $$\times $$ × 6 m $$^3$$ 3 liquid argon time-projection-chamber (LArTPC) that recorded cosmic-muon data at the CERN Neutrino Platform in 2019–2020 as a prototype of the DUNE Far Detector. Charged particles propagating through the LArTPC produce ionization and scintillation light. The scintillation light signal in these detectors can provide the trigger for non-beam events. In addition, it adds precise timing capabilities and improves the calorimetry measurements. In ProtoDUNE-DP, scintillation and electroluminescence light produced by cosmic muons in the LArTPC is collected by photomultiplier tubes placed up to 7 m away from the ionizing track. In this paper, the ProtoDUNE-DP photon detection system performance is evaluated with a particular focus on the different wavelength shifters, such as PEN and TPB, and the use of Xe-doped LAr, considering its future use in giant LArTPCs. The scintillation light production and propagation processes are analyzed and a comparison of simulation to data is performed, improving understanding of the liquid argon properties.

The effect of variation of mass flow rate and number of collectors (N) on the yearly efficiency of a single slope solar still by incorporating series connected N similar photovoltaic thermal flat plate collectors (NPVTFPCSS) has been investigated, keeping a constant water depth in basin as 0.14 m. The various parameters have been calculated, taking into account all four types of weather conditions for New Delhi using computing code developed in MATLAB-2015a. All equations and required data have been fed to the computing code for evaluating different relevant parameters. It has been concluded that the value of all types of annual efficiencies, except annual electrical efficiency, diminishes with increase in the value of at a selected value of N until = 0.10 kg/s and then becomes almost constant. Optimal values of N from annual overall exergy efficiency and annual overall thermal efficiency viewpoints have been found as four and ten respectively. HIGHLIGHTS The effect of mass flow rate and number of collectors on yearly efficiency of an active solar still has been estimated.; All types of weather situation have been considered for analysis.; Overall exergy efficiency and overall thermal efficiency have been found to diminish first with the enhancement in the value of mass flow rate and then become almost constant beyond = 0.10 kg/s.; Optimum value of N has been estimated.;

Abstract g-C3N4/Ca2Fe2O5 heterostructures were successfully prepared by incorporating g-C3N4 into Ca2Fe2O5 (CFO). As prepared g-C3N4/CFO heterostructures were initially utilized to photodegrade organic effluent Methylene blue (MB) for optimization of photodegradation performance. 50% g-C3N4 content in CFO composition showed an enhanced photodegradation efficiency (~ 96%) over g-C3N4 (48.15%) and CFO (81.9%) due to mitigation of recombination of photogenerated charge carriers by Type-II heterojunction. The optimized composition of heterostructure was further tested for degradation of Bisphenol-A (BPA) under direct sunlight, exhibiting enhanced photodegradation efficiency of about 63.1% over g-C3N4 (17%) and CFO (45.1%). The photoelectrochemical studies at various potentials with and without light illumination showed significant improvement in photocurrent response for g-C3N4/Ca2Fe2O5 heterostructures (~ 1.9 mA) over CFO (~ 67.4 μA). These studies revealed efficient solar energy harvesting ability of g-C3N4/Ca2Fe2O5 heterostructures to be utilized for organic effluent treatment.

Improving terminal heat tolerance is an issue of top priority in wheat breeding in the present era of climate change. Present study was carried out to identify the association among traits of economic importance under terminal heat stress environment. The grain yield/sq. meter under terminal heat stress environment recorded highly significant positive correlation both at genotypic and phenotypic level with grain weight/spike, number of spike/sq. meter, harvest index and 1000-grain weight in both the crop seasons. Path coefficient analysis carried out using genotypic correlation coefficients revealed that days to heading contributing maximum positive direct effect towards grain yield under terminal heat stress environment followed by grain filling duration. Other characters contributing positive direct effects towards grain yield were grain weight/spike, number of spike/sq. meter, harvest index and biological yield/sq. meter under both the crop season. Thus, for improving the wheat grain yield under terminal heat stresses conditions, breeder should aim for selecting genotypes with bold grains or high grain weight /spike, more number of tillers/sq. meter, higher harvest index and longer grain filling duration.

Uterus, the largest reproductive tract organ in female mammals, is the site of implantation of fertilised egg and foetus development. Uterus is a dynamic reproductive organ; its morphology alters with re-productive phase and steroidal cues. The aim of the present study was to assess the effects of proges-terone (P4), estrogen (E2) and antiprogestogen i.e., mifepristone on goat’s uterine histoarchitecture in in vitro short term culture. Uterine tissue slices were cultured in the presence of E2, P4 and mifepris-tone at the dose of 10–9 M, 10–7 M and 10–6 M respectively for 24 hours. Uterine morphology of E2- and P4-treated groups did not reveal marked changes from that of control group. Mifepristone treat-ment caused conspicuous changes in uterine histoarchitecture, led to congested endometrium, regressed uterine glands and constricted blood vessels. The changes observed in morphometry after E2 and P4 exposure included increased uterine gland diameter (47.00 and 45.95 µm respectively) and glandular epithelial cell height (18.37 and 17.43 µm respectively) while the mifepristone treatment resulted in significant reduction of gland diameter (34.95 µm) as well as epithelium height (14.25 µm) as compared to those in control group (39.9 and 15.56 µm respectively). These morphometrical changes revealed prominent regressive changes in anti-progestin treated group while E2 and P4 showed prolific effects in in vitro culture. Thus it is envisaged that E2 and P4 induced characteristic progressive changes in the histologic structure especially in endometrial glands of the goat uterus while anti-steroidogenic formulation i.e. mifepristone severely reduced the normal histoarchitecture of the uterus which is a prerequisite for implantation.

Medicine - Abstract
Proteinuria can range from subnephrotic to nephrotic amounts during pregnancy, though nephrotic syndrome (NS) is rare (0.012%–0.025%). Without a renal biopsy, this distinction may be difficult at times. The objective of our study was assessing about renal and feto-maternal outcomes of these patients. This study was done in a tertiary-care hospital in north India from 2010 to 2019. We included all pregnant women with nephrotic-range proteinuria, with no signs or symptoms suggestive of pre-eclampsia. We studied their treatment modalities, renal, maternal, and fetal outcomes. Eighteen eligible pregnant women diagnosed with NS with no features suggestive of pre-eclampsia or associated comorbidities were included. The gestational age of presentation was 23.2 ± 1.36 weeks. The average proteinuria was 4.38 ± 0.76 g/day. The patients were managed conservatively without kidney biopsy. About 16.7% of pregnancies had worsening of hypertension and acute kidney injury which recovered after delivery. Anasarca was troublesome for four patients requiring fresh-frozen plasma infusion. All were managed conservatively; however, five patients were started on empirical immunosuppression, all five with steroids, while two required the addition of calcineurin inhibitors as well. All had live births, but 25.7% each had preterm and intrauterine growth restriction while one required neonatal intensive care unit admission. The degree of proteinuria had an impact on maternal and fetal outcomes, especially on risk to pre-eclampsia. NS during pregnancy needs evaluation and counseling. Majority of them can be managed conservatively yet specific therapies can safely be tried among symptomatic ones. Despite good outcomes, a sizeable risk to maternal and fetal complications can occur.

The main objective of this study was to evaluate the financial losses associated with anestrus and cost benefit analysis of various factors controlling this disease in dairy animals of Punjab region. The overall economic loss incurred by dairy farmers due to anestrus irrespective of species of animals was ` 24,362. The mean economic losses per animal per year was almost same in crossbred cattle (` 27,511.48±1,227.60) and buffaloes (` 27,038.69±1,128.05) and lower in indigenous cattle (` 18,296.95±1,317.53). When the average annual losses due to different components were estimated, the largest component was due to replacement cost followed by milk yield loss cost, future calf reduction and veterinary charges. Among different agro-climatic zones (ACZs), highest loss was observed in Central Plain Region (` 27,384.63±2,407.03) and the least affected zone was Flood Plain Region (` 19,135.6±4,326.50). While controlling anestrus at farm level through different control measures, the overall benefit cost ratio was estimated to be 5.33. The projected loss in Punjab state due to anestrus in dairy animals was estimated to be ` 2135.79 crore. It may be concluded that the mean economic losses per animal per year was higher in crossbred cattle and buffaloes, where the largest component was due to replacement cost followed by milk yield loss, future calf reduction and veterinary charges. In order to control economic losses due to anestrus, it is important to improve all aspects related to heat detection, and to provide appropriate preventive or therapeutic measures.

Medicine - Abstract
Thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA) after kidney transplant is rather uncommon but an important reversible cause of graft loss. This retrospective study of biopsy-proven posttransplant TMA was done to identify the important etiological factors, clinical features, and outcomes of post transplant TMA in a tertiary care referral hospital in northern India. This retrospective study was conducted among all renal transplant recipients who presented with graft dysfunction between 1989 and 2015. All the cases were looked for their etiology, clinical course, treatment modalities, and renal outcomes. The study was conducted in accord with prevailing ethical principles and reviewed by our own institutional review board. Seventeen patients out of 2000 (0.008%) transplants done during the study period had posttransplant TMA, out of which all the patients had de novo TMA, and the median time of presentation after transplantation was four months. Systemic TMA was noted in only four patients. Biopsy revealed associated rejection in five patients and associated calcineurin inhibitor (CNI) toxicity in 12 patients. Patients with TMA due to CNI toxicity were managed with CNI reduction or switching to alternate CNI or mammalian target of rapamycin inhibitors. In addition, antithymocyte globulin and plasma exchange were used in rejection-associated TMA. While four out of 12 patients (33%) in CNI-related TMA developed end-stage renal disease (ESRD), all patients in rejection-associated TMA developed ESRD. The overall one-year graft survival was 47%, whereas five- and 10-year survival was 35%. There was no significant difference in graft survival between localized and systemic TMAs (P = 0.4). Posttransplant TMA should be suspected even if there are no systemic features of hemolysis and early graft biopsy and prompt action is needed. The occurrence of TMA in the setting of rejection is associated with grave prognosis.

An efficient Lookup Table (LUT) design for memory-based multiplier is proposed. This multiplier can be preferred in DSP computation where one of the inputs, which is filter coefficient to the multiplier, is fixed. In this design, all possible product terms of input multiplicand with the fixed coefficient are stored directly in memory. In contrast to an earlier proposition Odd Multiple Storage (OMS), we have proposed utilizing Even Multiple Storage (EMS) scheme for memory-based multiplication and by doing so we are able to achieve a less complex and high-speed design. Because of the very simpler control circuit used in our design, to extract the odd multiples of the product term, we are also able to achieve a significant reduction in path delay and area complexity. For validation, the proposed design of the multiplier is coded in VHDL, simulated and synthesized using Xilinx tool and then implemented in Virtex 7 XC7vx330tffg1157 FPGA. Various key performance metrics like number of slices, number of slice LUT’s and maximum combinational path delay is estimated for different input word length. Also, the performance metrics are compared with the existing OMS design. It is found that the proposed EMS design occupies nearly 62% less area in terms of number of slices as compared to the OMS design and the maximum path delay is decreased by 77% for a 64-bit input. Further, the proposed multipliers are used in Transposed FIR filter and its performance is compared with the OMS multiplier based filter for various filter orders and various input lengths.

Abstract Background Wheat is the most important staple crop in Afghanistan and accounts for the main part of cereal production. However, wheat production has been unstable during the last decades and the country depends on seed imports. Wheat research in Afghanistan has emphasized releases of new, high-yielding and disease resistant varieties but rates of adoption of improved varieties are uncertain. We applied DNA fingerprinting to assess wheat varieties grown in farmers’ fields in four Afghan provinces. Results Of 560 samples collected from farmers’ fields during the 2015–16 cropping season, 74% were identified as varieties released after 2000, which was more than the number reported by farmers and indicates the general prevalence of use of improved varieties, albeit unknowingly. At the same time, we found that local varieties and landraces have been replaced and were grown by 4% fewer farmers than previously reported. In 309 cases (58.5%), farmers correctly identified the variety they were growing, while in 219 cases (41.5%) farmers did not. We also established a reference library of released varieties, elite breeding lines, and Afghan landraces, which confirms the greater genetic diversity of the landraces and their potential importance as a genetic resource. Conclusions Our study is the first in wheat to apply DNA fingerprinting at scale for an accurate assessment of wheat varietal adoption and our findings point up the importance of DNA fingerprinting for accuracy in varietal adoption studies.

Abstract Background In spite of an alarmingly high tuberculosis (TB) burden amongst the Saharia tribe of central India, there is hardly any study to investigate the impact of DOTS implementation on the magnitude of tuberculosis disease and the changes over time. This article present the findings of TB prevalence surveys conducted amongst this indigenous population in two different time periods to know the change in the prevalence of TB. Methods A cross sectional survey was conducted among Saharia population in Shivpuri district, Madhya Pradesh during February 2013 to May 2013 and resurvey during March 2015 to July 2015. All individuals (≥15 years) were examined for chest symptoms suggestive of TB. Sputum samples were collected from all presumptive TB cases and were confirmed by laboratory examination by Ziehl-Neelsen smear microscopy and solid media culture methods. All detected cases were referred to health facility for anti-tuberculosis treatment as per RNTCP guidelines. Results There was significant reduction (trend Chi square 19.97; OR = 1.521; p = 0.000) in the prevalence of TB at the endline (1995 per 100,000) as compared to baseline (3003 per 100,000). The reduction was significant among males as compared to females (OR 1.55; p = 0.000) and in the age group of 25–34 years (OR 2.0; p = 0.007) and 45–54 years (OR 4.39; p = 0.003). There was significant reduction in the prevalence in both smear (OR 1.29; p = 0.02) and culture positive (OR 1.57; p = 0.000) TB at the endline survey. Conclusion The study findings highlight a reduction in the prevalence of TB among Saharia tribal population. Further studies are needed to identify the factors associated with reduction in prevalence among this population and also further surveys to monitor the prevalence trend over a period.
