15. B-substituted group 1 phosphides: synthesis and reactivity.

Abstract

1-Boryl-8-phosphinonaphthalenes 1-BCy2-8-PCl2-C10H6 (1) and 1-BCy2-8-PPhCl-C10H6 (2) were prepared and used as starting materials for the synthesis of B-substituted phosphides. The reduction of 1 and 2 by Mg provided neutral compounds [1-BCy-8-PCy-C10H6]2 (3) and [1-BCy2-8-PPh-C10H6]2 (4). Compound 3 represents the dimer of phosphinoborane 1-BCy-8-PCy-C10H6 while complex 4 is a rare example of a discrete B ← P coordinated diphosphine. The reduction of 2 by Na or K in THF yielded B-substituted group 1 phosphides [Na(THF)3]+[1-BCy2-8-PPh-C10H6]− (5) and {[K(THF)2]+[1-BCy2-8-PPh-C10H6]−}∞ (6), which structurally resembled bulky group 1 phosphides. Complex 5 showed easy activation of elemental chalcogens E (E = O, S, Se) to give B-substituted chalcogenophosphinites {[Na(THF)2]+[1-BCy2-8-P(E)Ph-C10H6]}2 (E = O (7), S (8), Se (9)) as the products of chalcogen insertion into the P–Na bond. Importantly no oxidation to dichalcogenophosphinates was observed. Compound 5 is tolerant of the CO polar bonds in organic substrates and the reactions of 5 with 2,3-butanedione or an acyl chloride provided {[Na(THF)2]+[1-BCy2-8-P{CHC(O)C(Me)O}Ph-C10H6]−}2 (10) and [1-BCy2-8-P{C(O)tBu}Ph-C10H6] (11). Finally, B-coordinated phosphatetrylenes [1-BCy2-8-P(SnL)Ph-C10H6] (12) and [1-BCy2-8-P(PbL)Ph-C10H6] (13) (L is {2,6-(Me2NCH2)C6H3}−) were also prepared by substitution reactions of 5. Abstract

Abstract: Studies have been focused on the synthesis of N→Ga‐coordinated organogallium selenides and tellurides [L1Ga(μ‐Se)]2 (1), [L2Ga(μ‐Se)]2 (2) and [L1Ga(μ‐Te)]2 (3), respectively, containing either N,C,N‐ or C,N‐chelating ligands L1, 2 (L1 is {2,6‐(Me2NCH2)2C6H3}− and L2 is {2‐(Et2NCH2)‐4,6‐tBu2‐C6H2}−) having Ga/E (E=Se or Te) atoms in 1/1 ratio. To change the Ga/E ratio, an unusual N→Ga‐coordinated organogallium tetraselenide L1Ga(κ2‐Se4) (4) was prepared. An unprecedented complex (L1Ga)2(μ‐Te2)(μ‐Te) (5), as the result of the non‐stability of 3, was also isolated. Compound 2 is a suitable single‐source precursor for the preparation of amorphous GaSe thin films by the spin coating. Moreover, simple heating of an octadecylamine solution of 2 provided, after work up, monoclinic Ga2Se3 crystals with different crystallinity according to conditions used. Therefore, compound 2 may be also used as a source of Ga2Se3 in the low‐temperature doping process of Bi2Se3. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

50. Prototropic μ-H8,9and μ-H9,10Tautomers Derived from the [nido-5,6-C2B8H11]−Anion

Abstract

Reported is an unusual tautomeric behavior within the [nido-5,6-C2B8H11]−(1a–) cage that has no precedence in the whole area of carborane chemistry. Isolated were two skeletal tautomers, anions [6-Ph-nido-5,6-C2B8H10-μ8,9]−(2d–) and [5,6-Me2-nido-5,6-C2B8H9-μ9,10]−(3b–), which differ in the positioning of the open-face hydrogen bridge. Their structures have been determined by X-ray diffraction analyses. The 3b–structure is stabilized by intermolecular interaction involving Et3NH+and B8–B9 and H8 atoms in the solid phase; however, its dissolution in CD3CN causes instant conversion to the more stable [5,6-Me2-nido-5,6-C2B8H9-μ8,9]−(2b–) tautomer. The dynamic electron-correlation-based MP2/6-31G* computations suggest that the parent [nido-5,6-C2B8H11-μ8,9]−(2a–) tautomer is 3.9 kcal·mol–1more stable than the [nido-5,6-C2B8H11-μ9,10]−(3a–) counterpart and the μ8,9structure 2–is therefore the most stable tautomeric form in the solution, as was also demonstrated by multinuclear (1H, 11B, and 13C) NMR measurements on the whole series of C-substituted compounds.
