Aufgrund der massiven und rasanten Entwicklung in den Schwellenländern, z. B. Iran, gewinnen Umweltschutz und Nachhaltigkeit immer mehr an Relevanz. Ein einseitiges Wirtschaftswachstum, ohne Berücksichtigung ökologischer und klimatischer Bedingungen, verursacht die Zerstörung der Umwelt und Rohstoffe, Ressourcen, die für die weitere Entwicklung der Länder unverzichtbar sind. Es ist unumgänglich, sich umfassend mit nachhaltiger Entwicklung und ökologischen Aspekten auseinanderzusetzen, die unmittelbaren Auswirkungen auf die Umwelt zu erfassen und gleichzeitig Möglichkeiten einer Optimierung aufzuzeigen. Nachhaltigkeit und Umweltschutz erfassen eine Vielzahl von Themen und Aspekten, u. a. den Energieverbrauch; ein wesentlicher Faktor, da der Energieverbrach in Gebäuden den größten Einfluss auf die Umweltbilanz hat. In Anbetracht des enormen Energieverbrauchs in Bauwirtschaft und Wohnungsbau ist es unerlässlich, gerade in diesem Bereich eine Optimierung in der weiteren Entwicklung zu verfolgen. Diesem Ziel folgend, werden in dieser Publikation Verfahren und Methoden, für nachhaltige Bauweisen, unter Berücksichtigung einer besseren Bauqualität und gesundheitlicher Aspekte, erläutert. Die Maßnahmen nachhaltigen Designs beinhalten verschiedene Ansätze und Methoden, energieeffiziente und umweltfreundliche Gebäude zu entwickeln. Sie zeigen Entwurf, Konstruktion und bauliche Ausführung von Gebäuden im Allgemeinen und Wohngebäuden im speziellen. Neben den verschiedenen Ansätzen sind die „passive solar strategies“ die wohl namhaftesten Methoden, da diese sehr rentabel und daher für Bauherren attraktiv sind. Angesichts der speziellen Situation im Iran im Besonderen und der MENA-Region im Allgemeinen, könnten die passiven Design- (Architektur-) Strategien als eine der am besten anzuwendenden Methoden für Rohstoffeffizienz und Nachhaltigkeit betrachtet werden. Dies setzt eine besondere Berücksichtigung des dortigen Klimas, der sozialen Charakteristiken derzeitiger oder zukünftiger Einwohner als auch der topographisch-physischen und architektonischen Charakteristiken der betroffenen Region voraus. Beeinflussung und Beziehungen zwischen Gesellschaft, Gebäuden, Architektur und Klima sind „lokal spezifisch“ und dynamisch. Deshalb sollten diese Faktoren für jeden Standort neu geprüft und analysiert werden. Die Resultate dieser Analysen, allgemein für Gebäude in der MENA-Region und im Besonderen im Iran, zeigen deutlich die Überlegenheit von passiven Designstrategien. Diese Publikation ist das Resultat der entwickelten Pilotprojekte im Rahmen des Young Cities-Projektes. Sie beginnt mit der Vorstellung der Zielgruppe, relevanten Definitionen und einem kurzem Überblick des konventionellen Ansatzes und dessen Einfluss auf die Umwelt. Das Kapitel endet mit einem kurzen Rückblick über den Nutzen nachhaltiger Bauweise. Nach Analyse des Klimas und seine Beziehung zu thermischem Komfort und Gebäuden werden die wichtigsten Prinzipien passiver Solarenergie vorgestellt: Orientierung, Tageslicht, Schatten, thermale Masse, Isolierung und Ventilierung; ihre Grundlagen und Designstrategien detailliert erläutert. Nachhaltige Konstruktion und deren Hauptpfeiler, Bausysteme, Bauelemente, ökologische Bauelemente und anwendbare Maßnahmen für die Bauphysik, werden anschließend beleuchtet. Dabei wurden die Konstruktionssysteme in sechs Hauptgruppen gegliedert: Ziegeleinfüllung, leichtgewichtige Ziegeleinfüllung, klassische Füllwände, leichtgewichtige Stahlrahmen, tunnelförmige Struktursysteme und vorgefertigte Modelle. Anhand folgender Faktoren werden diese eingehend dargestellt: Baukonzepts, Fabrikproduktion, Isolierung, Abnutzung, Verarbeitung, Arbeitsaufwand, Installierung, Transport-Beförderung, Services, hydronische Kühlung/Heizung und Sicherheit. Die Hauptbauelemente wie Unterbau, Wände, Boden, Dächer, Türen und Fenster werden beschrieben und verschiedene Baureihen dieser vorgestellt. Das vierte Kapitel befasst sich mit ökologischen Baumaterialien. Um hierbei eine vergleichbare Basis zu finden, wurden gemeinsame Kriterien ausgewählt: graue Energie, Verschmutzung und Abfall, lokale Produktion, Wiederverwendung und Recycling, Nachhaltigkeit und Interdependenzen. Im fünften Kapitel werden anwendbare Maßnahmen für die Bauphysik, wie Isolierung, Lasur, Wärmemasse, Tageslicht, Schatten, Ventilation und Luftdichte, untersucht, deren Grundlagen beschrieben und Empfehlungen bezüglich der Gestaltung präsentiert. Nowadays there is an ever growing awareness regarding inevitable importance of sustainable development and its sub topics such as environment protection, ecology, resource saving, energy efficiency, etc. Due to massive and rapid development in recent years, this topic is getting more crucial in developing countries for instance Iran. It is getting more obvious that most of the development activities in absence of precise analysis of current conditions, as well as consequences of such activities, will lead to devastation of natural resources. The resources that is essential for further development of the country. Therefore, It is necessary to deal with sustainable development and environmental issues from the broader perspective, where includes items underlying immediate causes of environmental impact and at the same time tries to improve them. Sustainability or sustainable development is an umbrella covering many issues and aspects, among them energy, which is the key item, because energy consumption of buildings could have an impact on environment more than other aspects. Considering the huge portion of energy consumption in construction industry and housing sector, paying special attention to improvements in this sector is essential. Following this goal, the aim of this publication is to highlight procedures and practices which promote sustainable construction that is about creating a better quality of building and more healthy places to live in. Procedure of sustainable design includes various approaches and methods to develop energy efficient and environmentally sensitive buildings. Such approaches and methods demonstrate how to design, develop and construct all buildings in general and residential buildings in particular. Among various approaches towards sustainability, “Passive solar strategies” are well-known thanks to their cost efficiency and context friendliness of its principals and measures. The approach of passive design (architectural) strategies could be considered as the most applicable approach for resource saving and sustainability, thinking about special situation of Iran in particular and the Mena region in general. Such an approach requires paying special attention to climate, social characteristics of current or prospective inhabitants, topographical-physical characteristics as well as architectural characteristics of the understudied area. The relationships and interactions among society, building and its architecture and climate is “Site-specific” and dynamic. Therefore, they should be studied and properly analyzed throughout a specific project process for each certain place. The most expecting outcomes are precise definitions of passive design strategies, generally for buildings in MENA Region and especially for Iran. This publication is prepared in the young cities project framework, as the reasonable outcome of the developed pilot projects. The book starts with introducing the target group, related definitions and a brief overview on a conventional approach and its impact on environment. This chapter ends up with a brief review on benefits of applying sustainable guidelines. As the next step, after analyzing the climate and its relationship with thermal comfort and building, the main principals of passive solar design are introduced. The selected principles are: orientation, day-lighting, shading, thermal mass, insulation and ventilation. After a brief introduction of the principals, each one is explained in detail through its general principles and design strategies. Sustainable construction is examined based on its main pillars: construction systems, building elements, ecological building materials, and applicable measures for building physic. Construction systems are sorted out in six main groups as: block work- brick infill, block work- lightweight block infill, conventional panels, light weight steel frame, tunnel form structural system and precast modular. All selected systems are introduced based on following factors: brief description of the building concept, factory production, insulation, wastage, finishes, labor, installation, transport- lifting, services, hydronic cooling/ heating and safety. Then main building elements are examined. Here the elements are limited to: foundations, walls, floors, roofs, doors and windows. After a short description, different types of each element are introduced. Ecological building materials are investigated in chapter four. To find a base to compare, several common criteria are selected such as: embodied energy, pollution and waste, local production, reusability and recyclability, durability and interdependency. Applicable measures for building physic are examined in chapter five. The selected main measures are as follows: insulation, glazing, thermal mass, day-lighting, shading, ventilation and air-tightness. After describing the general principles of each measure, several recommendations in frame of design considerations are provided.

This research has been conducted to investigate the most important criteria in the dwelling environment influenced residents’ satisfaction. The meaning of the yard has been changed to the semipublic open space, following the emergence of multi-families complex as one of the prevalent sort of habitation in the big cities of Iran. Therefor the features of residential open space which effect on habitants’ perception and consequently, residents’ satisfaction was studied. This paper is based on the data collected from the questionnaire contained sections measuring residents perceptions of space in eleven residential complexes in Tehran. The path model analysis had spatial, contextual, functional and social features as the exogenous variables predicting residents’ evaluation of open space and the level of satisfaction. The structural equation modeling implied that overall residents’ satisfaction was associated intensively with the spatial feature of complexes. Sense of privacy, coherence and safety are the most important features affect residents’ satisfaction, whereas social and functional features do not have vital effect on habitant perception of satisfaction.

Thermal comfort in outdoor settings is a topic that, until recently, has received little research attention. Most of the researches concerning thermal comfort focused mostly on indoor spaces. The former studies -carried out by author in Iran- showed thermal comfort is the main component of comfortability in urban open space. To analysis the effect of urban layouts on outdoor thermal comfort, Young Cities project located in Tehran region was selected. Analyses were done in two different levels and scales, including large scale, 35Hectar pilot project in Hashtgerd using ENVI-met and medium scale, Sub-neighborhood level, by Ecotect. The result of this research would lead to optimizing sub-neighborhood layout regarding outdoor thermal comfort and energy efficiency and defining architectural guidelines for 35 hectare pilot project. Furthermore based on these outcomes optimal; form, orientation, façade, height of building and layout of open space would be suggested.

The first volume is published on occasion of the completion of the first of the Pilot Project, i. e. the New Quality Pilot project building in Hashtgerd New Tow. Hashtgerd New Town, 70 km to the west of Tehran and 35 km to the west of Karaj forms the spatial focus of the Young Cities project. It is the place of intervention and for testing and trying the solutions and concepts developed for energy-efficient and sustainable urban design and planning, infrastructure provision, and object planning by the Iranian and German partners. The solutions shall, however, be applicable and transferable to other places in the Tehran-Karaj region as well as in Iran and in the Middle East North Africa region mena. The Young cities Project belongs to a worldwide “family” of ten research projects that are funded by the German bmbf and dedicated to the question of energy efficient urban development in future megacities. The other projects of this family are located in India, China, Vietnam, Ethiopia, Morocco, South Africa and Peru. The basic idea and commitment of this German research program is to produce research results useful for growing megacities. This research has to be done not on but for the growing megacities concerned and together with partners in these regions. In the case of the Young Cities project this led to an intensive and constructive cooperation between TU Berlin and the Iranian partners conducted by bhrc. The Research Paper series is intended to present the scientific results from the Young Cities project, while the consulting products including guidelines, software tools, instruments etc. are assembled after application and testing in a real project in Hashtgerd New Town and evaluation in a successively enlarged Manual. Since this first volume of the Young Cities Research Paper presents the overall Young Cities project in Farsi for the first time, focus is only partly laid on the results but also on its outline and objectives and only gives a glimpse into the first accomplishments and results. The present first volume of the Young Cities Research Paper series is to introduce the overall Young Cities Project with its accomplishments up to June 2010. It is divided into four main parts on the background of the project, its objectives and methodological approach, the results and accomplishments reached so far, and an outlook on the future progress of the project. This is the second volume of the Young Cities Research Papers series presenting the scientific results from the mutual Iranian-German research project “Young Cities—Urban Energy Efficiency. The New Quality buildings as the first of the pilot projects to be completed are residential buildings. It was planned jointly by the Iranian and German partners from a typical Iranian residential building scheme widely to be found in the region’s new settlements and New Towns and adapted by small scale interventions for economical improvements regarding building quality, construction layout, and energy-efficiency. The pilot project has been erected by the Housing Investment Company hic, Tehran, under supervision of BHRC and TU Berlin including an on-site vocational training workshop for construction site staff aiming at improved building quality and use of the new materials and construction technologies introduced. The erection of the New Quality pilot project, now, is completed. The pilot project, however, goes on by the seamless start of monitoring of the buildings performance during use regarding energy consumption, water consumption and building quality. The results from the monitoring will be fed into the development of the other pilot projects, into the tested and tried concepts and solutions to be presented and disseminated as the project’s output, and into the project evaluation assessing the effects from the project. The present second volume is to introduce the overall Young Cities project with its accomplishments up to August 2010. It is divided into four main parts on the background of the project, its objectives and methodological approach, the results and accomplishments reached so far, and an outlook on the future progress of the project. Free form architectural design created with the aid of digital media requires a fundamental change of the approach to the entire planning and building process as it might not involve the use of actual materials. One of the biggest challenges is the mastering of the produceability of the building components. Complex geometry needs to be broken down into elements that not only size-wise but also with respect to their geometrical description can be manufactured and assembled. This process requires the tessellation of surfaces. The triangulation of a surface is a well-documented process however from an architectural and economical point of view the planar quadrilateral (PQ) tessellation of a surface offers several advantages. So far the generation of PQ facets is only possible for certain sub-classes of surfaces, which in them self feature simple generating methods. To address this problem an approximation network is generated which has to follow certain rules: the topology of the network is determined by the properties of the surface which shall be approximated. This means the faces are positioned in such a way so their edges will always follow the principal curvature lines of the surface. Usually the singular points of a PQ mesh surface are characterized by the number of 4 edges per joint. The approximation mesh will be manually sculpted whilst considering the position/ location of those singular points whose number of members differ from the usual 4 edges in a typical joint of a PQ mesh. The final step of the process is to optimize the approximation network by using dynamic relaxation principles. A number of case studies carried out on surfaces of different levels of complexity show that the principle of approximation network in combination with dynamic relaxation allows to facet almost any doubly curved surface designed in a scale typical for the construction industry., Die Realisierung von Freiform Architektur erfordert eine neue Herangehensweise bei Planung und deren Umsetzung in die gebaute Wirklichkeit. Vor allem die Realisierung der Gebäudehülle stellt eine große Herausforderung dar. Komplexe Geometrien müssen in Einzelelemente unterteilt werden, welche sowohl in Bezug auf ihre Elementgröße als auch hinsichtlich ihrer geometrischen Beschreibung mit den in der Industrie verfügbaren Methoden hergestellt und anschließend auf der Baustelle montiert werden können. Geometrisch betrachtet erfordert dies die Unterteilung der Ausgangsfläche durch die Methode der Vernetzung (Tesselierung). Die dreieckige Vernetzung einer Fläche (Triangulieren) ist eine mathematisch gut dokumentierte Methode, allerdings bietet die Vierecksvernetzung mit ebenen Elementen (Planar Quad oder auch PQ-Vernetzung) aus architektonischer wie auch wirtschaftlicher Sicht eine Anzahl von Vorteilen. Im Gegensatz zu den gut erforschten Prinzipien der Triangulierung stellt die akkurate Vernetzung eine beliebige Freiformfläche mit ebenen Vierecken stellt allerdings bis dato ein mathematisch ungelöstes Problem dar. Diese Arbeit befasst sich daher mit der Aufgabe, einen allgemeingültigen Lösungsansatz für das Generieren eines PQ-Netzes auf einer beliebigen Freiformflächen zu finden. Hierfür wird zunächst ein ‘Topologienetz’ auf der Ausgangsfläche generiert welche deren Krümmungseigenschafen entspricht. Hierfür wird zunächst eine Analyse der Ausgangsfläche zur Bestimmung ihrer Hauptkrümmungslinien vorgenommen. Im nächsten Schritt können mittels der Hauptkrümmungslinien die singulären Punkte (Nabelpunkte) der Fläche dargestellt werden. Diese Flächenbereiche müssen bei der anschließenden Erzeugung des Approximationsnetzes entsprechend berücksichtigt werden. Das Approximationsnetz wird manuell generiert unter Beachtung der für die Facettierung gewünschten Paneel Größe. Abschließend wird das Netz durch mehrmaliges Anwenden einer modifizierten Version der Dynamischen Relaxation soweit optimiert, bis die gewünschte Planarität der Paneele unter Berücksichtigung eines vordefinierten Toleranzwertes erreicht ist.

Das steigende ökologische Bewusstsein der letzten Jahrzehnte führte zu einem wachsenden Interesse an dem alten Baustoff Lehm. Neben seinen ästhetischen und bauphysikalischen Vorzügen, die ihn besonders für den Einsatz in Wohngebäuden empfehlen, wird der Baustoff auch aufgrund seiner Wiederverwendbarkeit wieder interessant. Gegenüber den heute üblichen genormten Baustoffen wie z.B. Stahl und Beton gibt es bislang für den Baustoff Stampflehm noch keine anerkannte Methodik zu seiner Optimierung,mit der gewünschte Materialeigenschaften erreicht werden können. Bisher wird üblicherweise durch eine experimentelle Rezepturfindung ein Stampflehmgemisch, unter Verwendung eines natürlich vorkommenden Lehmgemisches, entwickelt. Damit verbunden sind hohe zeit- und materialaufwendige Prüfungen. Die vorliegende Arbeit gibt Ansätze für die Rezeptur und die Prüfung von Grubenlehm zur Aufbereitung als Stampflehm. Zielsetzung ist die Entwicklung einer Methodik, mit der - ausgehend von natürlichen Lehmvorkommen - Stampflehmgemische mit gewünschten Materialeigenschaften durch definierte Stoffzusammensetzungen erstellt werden können. Dazu wurde der Ausgangsstoff Lehm zunächst in seiner Zusammensetzung durch geeignete Prüfmethoden analysiert. Die Bestimmung und Analyse des Ausgangsstoffes Naturlehm erfolgte an ausgewählten Grubenlehmen mit verschiedenen, in der Geotechnik bewährten Prüfmethoden. Die einzelnen Messmethoden werden auf ihre Eignung und Anwendbarkeit auf Stampflehm überprüft, die Genauigkeit der Messergebnisse bewertet und der ökonomische Aufwand ermittelt. Auf Basis der daraus gewonnenen Erkenntnisse wurden verschiedene Stampflehmproben systematisch zusammengestellt, geprüft sowie Rückschlüsse auf die jeweiligen Einflussgrößen gezogen. Die Untersuchungen haben gezeigt, dass es für Stampflehmgemische einen Kornverteilungsbereich gibt, der die gewünschten optimalen Materialeigenschaften im Hinblick auf Verarbeitbarkeit, Oberfläche, Schwindmaß und Druckfestigkeit ermöglicht. Eine Analyse der Tonminerale und der Feinkornzusammensetzung ist nicht erforderlich,vielmehr ist die Findung von optimalen Stampflehmgemischen auch mit Hilfe einfacher qualitativer Prüfverfahren möglich. Es hat sich bestätigt, dass dazu die traditionelle Methode der Knetprüfung sehr gut geeignet ist, sie konnte in einigen Punkten weiterentwickelt werden. Einen wesentlichen Bestandteil der Arbeit bilden Untersuchungen, mit denen Prüfverfahren auf deren Zuverlässigkeit und Vollständigkeit überprüft werden, um zu gewährleisten, dass Lehmbaustoffe als Stampflehm verwendet werden können. The increasing environmental consciousness in recent decades has led to a growing interest in the old building material clay. In addition to its aesthetic and structural advantages that recommend clay for residential buildings, it becomes interesting again because of its recyclability. Compared to today's standardized construction materials such as steel and concrete there is no accepted methodology to optimize clay material for achieving desired material properties yet for the building material rammed earth. Until now, rammed earth material is usually developed by an experimental finding of a recipe, using natural clay. However this causes huge time-consuming and materially intense tests. This PhD thesis is a research in the field of building with rammed earth, which describes and elaborates new approaches for the design and testing of clay building material. The main objective is to develop a methodology by which - based on natural-insoluble clay deposits – rammed earth material with desired parameters can be created by using defined material compositions. For this purpose the substance clay in its composition is carefully analyzed by selecting and using appropriate test methods. The identification and analysis of different systematically selected natural clays is carried out with different approved methods in geotechnical engineering. The individual measurement methods are tested for their suitability and applicability in building with rammed earth, the accuracy of the measurement results are evaluated and the economic costs are determined. On the basis of the results rammed earth samples are systematically collected and investigated, and later conclusions on the respective variables are drawn. The investigations have shown that rammed earth mixtures with optimal material properties cannot be described in an accurate way by just one given grain size distribution. Rather, the investigations defined a specified grain distribution range, with which the desired optimum material properties in terms of processing, surface shrinkage and compressive strength can be achieved. A detailed analysis of the clay mineral holdings and the fine grain composition is not really necessary; a deliberate composition of optimal rammed earth was rather possible by using simple qualitative testing procedures. It has been confirmed that the method of kneading test is very well suited and could be further developed. An essential part of the investigations are the application, examination and documentation of test methods. In addition to accepted test methods, methods of concrete technology are tested for their applicability in rammed earth.

In dieser Arbeit wurden zunächst die in Bam üblichen Bauweisen anhand von Bauschäden durch Erdbeben analysiert und bewertet sowie Vorschläge für ihre Verbesserungen unterbreitet. Anschließend wurde die Kappendecke untersucht, um festzustellen ob durch das Einhalten der im Code 2800 festgelegten Regeln eine Mindeststandsicherheit der Decke bei starken Erdbeben gewährleistet ist. Hierfür wurde die Tragfähigkeit der Kappendecke unter vertikalen und horizontalen Belastungen numerisch untersucht. Auf der Grundlage der Ergebnisse aus den Berechnungen nach FEM wurde festgestellt, welchen Einfluss die Anordnung der Zuganker sowie die horizontale Aussteifung der Deckenscheibe mit Diagonalstäben auf die Tragfähigkeit der Kappendecke haben. Zum Schluss wurde die ermittelte horizontale Traglast der Deckenscheibe der Erdbeben-Ersatzlast gegenübergestellt, um deren Erdbebensicherheit zu beurteilen., In this doctoral thesis initially the methods of construction commonly practiced in city of Bam were analyzed and evaluated based on structural damage resulting from earthquakes. Improvements were proposed. The jack-arch roof (Kappendecke) was then examined to determine whether a minimum level of stability is guaranteed in the event of severe earthquakes when the stipulations laid down in Code 2800 are met. To this purpose, the carrying capacity of the jack-arch roof was investigated numerically under vertical and horizontal loads. Based on the results of the FEM calculations, the effect of the assembly of the tension rods and the horizontal bracing of the ceiling plate with diagonal bars on the load carrying capacity of the jack-arch roof was determined. Finally, the resulting horizontal ultimate load of the ceiling plate was compared with the earthquake load to assess its resistance to earthquake.

Gegenstand dieser Arbeit ist die Untersuchung von mit Mauerwerk ausgefachten Stahlrahmen und deren Anwendung in Erdbebengebieten. Die Arbeit umfasst Analysen zur Tragfähigkeit, aus denen Empfehlungen für Anwendungsgrenzen abgeleitet werden und Hinweise zur konstruktiven Ausbildung. Die Berücksichtigung von im Lastfall Erdbeben mittragenden Ausfachungen ist hinsichtlich des Gesamttragverhaltens von Bauwerken zwingend erforderlich. Durch die Anwendung von Ersatzstäben wird eine Möglichkeit der vereinfachten Modellierung für die Praxis vorgestellt, wodurch der Einfluss der Ausfachungen rechnerisch berücksichtigt werden kann. Verschiedene Ersatzstabmodelle werden hinsichtlich ihrer Eignung vorgestellt und bewertet. Das Vorgehen beim Nachweis von Ausfachung und Rahmen wird beschrieben. Anhand von Gebäuden werden Berechnungen zur Tragfähigkeit ausgefachter Rahmen unter Erdbebenlast durchgeführt. Es zeigen sich enge Anwendungsgrenzen hinsichtlich Geometrie und Material. Bei Einhaltung der Grenzwerte können ausgefachte Rahmen zwar geringe Horizontallasten aufnehmen, für das Gesamttragwerk sind jedoch zusätzliche Aussteifungselemente in jedem Fall empfehlenswert. Abschließend erfolgt die Vorstellung verschiedener konstruktiver Möglichkeiten zur weiteren Erhöhung der Tragfähigkeit ausgefachter Rahmen. Möglichkeiten der konstruktiven Ausbildung der Kontaktfugen zwischen Rahmen und Ausfachung, der Knotenpunkte und der Diagonalen werden aufgezeigt. The purpose of this work is the analysis of steel frames that are filled-in with masonry and their application in earthquake-prone areas. The work comprises calculations of the bearing capacity from which recommendations for the limits of their applicability will be developed and details concerning the structural design. Because of the influence on the whole structure’s load bearing behaviour the consideration of participating fillings in the load case earthquake is mandatory. An alternative of a simple modelling for practical work by using equivalent struts that helps considering the influence of fillings for the calculation of infilled frames is presented. Different equivalent strut models are presented and evaluated concerning their applicability. The approach to design fillings and frames is described. On the basis of buildings calculations concerning the bearing capacity of infilled frames exposed to seismic loads are made. The limits of applicability regarding geometry and material are narrow. Although by following these limits of applicability infilled frames can take small horizontal loads, additional stiffening building elements for the whole structure are advisable. Different structural alternatives that enhance the bearing capacity of infilled frames are presented. Details regarding the structural design of the joint between frames and masonry, of the junction point of members and of the strut are shown.

Die Verbesserung der Effizienz und Leistungsfähigkeit von Gebäudeentwürfen gewinnt angesichts von Ressourcenknappheit und Umweltauswirkungen zunehmend an Wichtigkeit. Vor diesem Hintergrund ist die Anwendung von multidisziplinärer Entwurfsoptimierung (MDO = Multidisciplinary Design Optimization), einer Methode aus der Luft- und Raumfahrt, von großem Interesse. Denn diese Methode liefert systematisch Informationen über gute Konfigurationen und unterstützt damit die Entscheidungsfindung. Die vorliegende Arbeit entwickelt daher eine Methodik zur Anwendung von MDO im Gebäudeentwurf. Durch den Einsatz von MDO ist nicht nur eine Verbesserung von Entwurfslösungen möglich, sondern auch eine systematische Erforschung des Entwurfsraums und damit fundierte, strategische Entwurfsentscheidungen. Für eine erfolgreiche Übertragung der MDO in den Gebäudeentwurf sind entscheidende Weiterentwicklungen erforderlich. Sie betreffen erstens das Bewertungsmodell und die Berücksichtigung der für das Bauwesen besonderen qualitativen Aspekte und zweitens die Integration des Optimierungsmodells in ein Gebäudemodell, um auf der Grundlage eines parametrischen Analysemodells einen interaktiven Entwurfsprozess zu ermöglichen. Die Erstellung eines für das Bauwesen spezifischen Bewertungsmodells beginnt daher in Kapitel 2 mit der Klassifizierung der Zielaspekte auf der Basis quantitativer und qualitativer Hauptklassen. Ihnen entsprechend werden adäquate Verfahren zur Berücksichtigung der Zielaspekte in der Optimierung entwickelt, die zur Notwendigkeit eines interaktiven Prozesses der Entwurfsentwicklung und -optimierung führen. Als Grundlage dieses interaktiven, durch den Entwerfer gesteuerten Arbeitsprozesses dient die in Kapitel 3 entwickelte komponentenorientierte Dekomposition. Die Definition von Bauteilkomponenten erfolgt gemäß eines Funktionsbegriffs und führt zu einer hierarchischen Struktur. Diese Komponenten ermöglichen die Bildung eines parametrischen Systemmodells, das die Schnittstelle zur MDO darstellt. Neben Analysen und Dimensionierungsprozeduren enthalten die Komponenten Methoden zur Repräsentationsgenerierung für die Entwurfsdarstellung. Die Einführung einer multidisziplinären Entwurfsgrammatik in Kapitel 4 ermöglicht es, Systemmodifikationen als Änderungen der Anordnung der Komponenten zu modellieren. Auf der Basis des hierarchischen Funktionsbegriffs werden Dekompositionsregeln in verfeinerte Hierarchieebenen und Modifikationsregeln zur Optimierung bei gleichbleibender Hierarchieebene entwickelt. Die experimentelle Implementierung anhand eines Hallenbeispiels in Kapitel 5 zeigt die Anwendung der Methodik. Post-Optimalitäts-Analysen der Optimierungsergebnisse aus dieser Implementierung und eine praxisnahe Interpretation der Modellzustände als architektonischer Entwurfsprozess zeigen den Gewinn durch MDO im Gebäudeentwurf auf. Neben der Identifikation leistungsstarker Konfigurationen sind dies die systematische Durchsuchung des Entwurfsraums, die Offenlegung von Abhängigkeiten und Disziplinüberschneidungen, die Quantifizierbarkeit von Kompromissen und objektive, strategische Entwurfsentscheidungen. Zusammenfassend beschreibt die Methodik neue Konzepte und Erweiterungen für Gebäudemodellierung und Optimierung, die es erlauben, MDO als Werkzeug zur Erforschung des Entwurfsraums (Design Exploration) einzusetzen., The improvement of the efficiency and performance of building designs increasingly gains in importance considering resource shortages and environmental implications. Against this background, the application of Multidisciplinary Design Optimization (MDO), a method from aerospace engineering, is of much interest. This method provides systematic information about good configurations and, by this, supports decision-making. Therefore, this thesis develops a methodology to apply MDO considering the particular conditions in building design. By the application of MDO, not only an improvement of the design solutions is possible but also a systematic design exploration of the solution space that allows well-founded strategic design decisions. For a successful transfer of MDO to building design, substantial developments are required. First, they concern the evaluation model and the consideration of qualitative aspects that are specific for building design and, second, the integration of the optimization model in a building model in order to allow an interactive design process on the basis of a parametric analysis model. The setup of an evaluation model specific for building design starts in chapter 2 with the classification of the objective aspects with the main classes quantitative and qualitative. According to these classes, the development of adequate methods enables the consideration of the aspects in the optimization process. From these methods, the necessity for an interactive process of design evolution and optimization results. As foundation of the interactive designer-controlled process, the third chapter subsequently develops a component-oriented decomposition method. The definition of building components follows a function paradigm and leads to a hierarchic structure. These components serve to setup a parametric system model, which is the interface to MDO. Besides analyses and dimensioning procedures, the components include methods for representation generation to achieve design visualization. The development of a Multidisciplinary Design Grammar in chapter 4 serves for modeling system modifications as changes in the arrangement of the components. On the basis of the hierarchic function concept, decomposition rules refine the design in further hierarchy levels and modification rules optimize it on the same hierarchy level. The experimental implementation of an optimization model for a hall example in chapter 5 shows the application of the methodology. Post-optimality analyses applied to the optimizations results of this implementation and the interpretation of the model states in a realistic design process illustrate the gain by MDO in building design. Besides the identification of well-performing configurations, this gain consists of systematic search in the design space, discovery of interdependencies and disciplinary intersections, quantification of trade-offs, and objective strategic design decisions. In summary, the method describes novel techniques and extensions for building modeling and optimization that enable designers to use MDO as a tool for Design Exploration.

Der Folienbau und insbesondere der konstruktive Folienbau ist mittlerweile seit über 20 Jahren als Bauweise für Gebäudehüllen erprobt. Die Erfahrung dieser Zeit zeigt, dass die Folie als Konstruktionsmaterial dauerhaft einsetzbar ist. Die mechanischen Eigenschaften von geeigneten Folien ändern sich über diese Zeiträume kaum, somit ist ihr Einsatz als transparente Fläche, für dauerhafte Bauwerke als Alternative zu Glas oder biegesteifen Kunststoffen wie PMMA oder PC im Konstruktionsprozess zu untersuchen. Die Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit der Folie als Werkstoff für den Fassadenbau. Es wird im Wesentlichen auf den konstruktiven Folienbau eingegangen, aber auch auf Folien, die mechanisch nur schwach oder gar nicht belastbar sind und im Rahmen des Fassadenbaus optische, thermische oder mechanische Optimierungen ermöglichen. Zunächst werden die möglichen Konstruktionsformen von transparenten Fassaden, die auch schon aus dem Glasbau bekannt sind, in ihre Funktionsweise analysiert. Das Hauptaugenmerk liegt hierbei auf Doppelfassaden. Aus den Erkenntnissen über die jeweiligen Funktionen der unterschiedlichen Fassadenschichten werden Möglichkeiten aufgezeigt, unterschiedliche Schichten durch Folien zu ersetzen oder die gesamte Fassade aus Folien herzustellen. Um die Funktionsweise von Folien als thermisch isolierende Schicht zu untersuchen, wurden an zweilagigen Folienfenstern Versuche durchgeführt. Die Fenster wurden in einen Versuchsstand eingebaut, der den Energiedurchlass misst, bei einer Temperaturdifferenz der beiden angrenzenden Räume von 20°C. Die Ergebnisse wurden mit gängigen Glaskonstruktionen verglichen und Optimierungsvorschläge für die Folienkonstruktion dargelegt. Folienkonstruktionen gehören aus statischer Sicht zum Membranbau. Es sind vorgespannte Konstruktionen, die äußere Lasten in der Ebene als Normalkräfte abtragen. Die möglichen Formen, die sich aus der Vorspannung ergeben, werden dargestellt und nach Art der Vorspannung differenziert. Die mechanischen Eigenschaften werden im Anschluss dargestellt. Zur genauen Beschreibung des Werkstoffs wurden verschiedene Versuche durchgeführt. Die Versuchsreihe beginnt mit einaxialen Zugversuchen, um die Schwankungen der mechanischen Eigenschaften zwischen unterschiedlichen Herstellern, Materialchargen, Folienstärken und Modifikationen zu analysieren. Ein zweiter Versuchsaufbau ermittelt das Langzeitverhalten unter Last, bei einaxialer Belastung. Eine Folienprobe wird gedehnt und über einen bestimmten Zeitraum bei dieser Ausgangsdehnung gehalten, während die Spannungsänderung gemessen wird. Als Versuchsauswertung entsteht ein Diagramm, in dem jeder Ausgangsdehnung direkt eine Spannung nach unendlich langer Zeit zugeordnet wird. Als dritte Versuchsreihe wurden biaxiale Zugversuche durchgeführt. Hierfür wurde eine Versuchseinrichtung an der TU-Berlin gebaut. Die Versuche dienen der Bestimmung des E-Moduls und der Ermittlung der Querdehnzahl. Im Anschluss an diese Untersuchungen wird anhand von vier unterschiedlichen Modulen und eines Praxisprojektes die Konstruktion und Bemessung einer Folienfassade gezeigt. Hierfür wird zunächst das derzeit gültige Regelwerk gesichtet und anhand der bekannten Regeln ein Bemessungskonzept für die Fassade dargestellt. Mit diesem Konzept werden die vier Standardmodule und das 6,00 m hohe und 2,50 m breite Modul aus dem Praxisprojekt, bemessen., Foil structures and especially load bearing foil structures have been build now for more than 20 years and have proved their quality as façade and roofing material. The gained experiences of the last two decades have shown that it is a long lasting material. The mechanical properties of suitable foil materials, which have been installed in different buildings, haven’t changed during their lifetime. This proofs that foils can be used on permanent buildings as an alternative to glass or bending resistant polymers such as PMMA or PC. This thesis is about foil materials, which are suitable for façade construction. The main part deals with load bearing foil constructions. Included is also information on non load bearing foils such as PE or THV, which are good for optimizing optical or thermal properties of the façade. There are a lot of construction types for transparent facades which already known as glass façade constructions. These are analysed for their functionality. The focus is on double facades. After the analysis of the function of the different façade types and their layers, a recommendation is made to which part of the facades could be substituted by foils. The next step is to examine the building physic properties of insulating foil constructions. Tests were held at the TU-Berlin to measure the heat transmission of two layer foil windows. The test setup measured the energy transmission of the window between two rooms with a temperature difference of 20°C. The test results are compared to standard glass windows and suggestions for the optimization of the foil windows are given. Foil constructions are membrane structures. They are prestressed and carry external loads only by axial forces without bending moments. This behaviour leads to typical forms in membrane architecture which are shown and differentiated between mechanically and pneumatically prestessed forms. Subsequently the mechanical properties of foils are analysed, with the help of several tests performed at the TU-Berlin. The first mechanical test is the uniaxial tensile test. This test shows the variation of properties between different manufacturers, batches, thicknesses and optical modifications. The second test is also a uniaxial tensile test. This experiment gathered information on the long-term behaviour. A test strip is elongated and held in position for up to 40 days. During this time the stress in the foil strip is measured. With these tests a diagram has been developed which shows for every initial elongation the stresses after infinite long term. The third test is the biaxial tensile test. A test machine has been constructed at the TU-Berlin. This test provided information on the E-Moduli of the material and the Poisson ratio. Finally all results are applied on four standard foil elements and a practical project. In this practical project a foil façade is designed and a structural analysis is made. The standards and construction regulations are examined and a concept for the structural analysis of the foil is shown. With this concept the four standard elements and the 6,00m high and 2,50m wide foil element of the practical project, is analyzed.

This dissertation focuses on the current state of computer aided planning and building process in today’s Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry activities. It is a descriptive work of newly emerging technologies and approaches to design, construction and facility management that offer a great potential to enhance productivities, reduce project cost and project delivery time and improve cooperation and communication between project’s participants. The aim is to provide an in-depth understanding of these technologies and approaches, issues associated with their implementations, and their impacts and effects on the AEC industry’s individuals and organizations. In particular, this work discuss two of the most promising techniques that have huge impact on the AEC industry productivity and performance which are virtual reality (VR) and building information modeling (BIM) Diese Dissertation beschäftigt sich mit dem gegenwärtigen Stand von computerunterstützten Planungs- und Bauprozessen auf dem Gebiet der Architektur, der Tragwerksplanung und der Bauausführung (AEC). Die Arbeit beschreibt neue aufkommende Technologien und Ansätze für den Entwurf, die Bauausführung und das Facility Management, welche ein großes Potential zur Verbesserung der Produktivität, zur Reduzierung der Projektkosten und zur Verkürzung des Planungsprozesses besitzen und außerdem die Zusammenarbeit und Kommunikation zwischen den Projektbeteiligten verbessern. Das Ziel besteht darin, ein tiefgehendes Verständnis für diese Technologien und Ansätze, deren Realisierung und deren Bedeutung und Einfluss auf Organisationen und Einzelpersonen der AEC-Gruppe zu vermitteln. Die beiden vielversprechendsten Techniken, die große Bedeutung für die Produktivität und Effizienz der AEC-Industrie haben, sind Virtual Reality (VR) und Building Information Models (BIM).

Für die Erdbebenregion Oaxaca in Mexiko wird basierend auf umfangreichen anwendungsorientierten Untersuchungen ein kostengünstiges erdbebensicheres Wohnhaus entwickelt, das mit örtlich verfügbaren Mitteln einfach erstellt werden kann. Vorhandene Bauweisen und Bauschäden nach Erdbeben sind mit Aufmassen vor Ort dokumentiert und mögliche Verbesserungen angegeben. Beim Lehmsteinbau (Adobe) wird das größte Entwicklungspotenzial gesehen. Materialprüfungen im Labor belegen den Nutzen von Bewehrungen mit Sisalseilen im Lehmstein-Mauerwerk und höhere Tragfähigkeit im Vergleich zum unbewehrten Mauerwerk. Dynamische Analysen und Berechnungen mit der Finite-Element-Methode (FEM) zeigen für eingeschossige Baukörper bei limitierten Abmessungen und mit eingefügten konstruktiven Aussteifungen, dass typische Erdbebenlasten von Oaxaca beherrschbar sind. Die Untersuchungen führen zu Entwurfsregeln für einen erdbebengerechten Lehmsteinbau. Ein nach diesen Regeln entworfenes Musterhaus, dass in den Projekten der TU Berlin erfolgreich realisiert wurde, wird zum Schluss vorgestellt. The research work at hand is application–oriented. To develop a low cost, simple constructed and earthquake resistant residential house for the earthquake region Oaxaca in Mexico investigations in different fields are made. The survey of simple cottages in the region of Oaxaca documents construction style and structural damage. The potential to gain a higher level of construction was figured out for the adobe style buildings. With material tests in the laboratory the use of sisal-fibre-ropes as reinforcement of the bed joint is tested and optimized. The load-bearing capacity of sisal-fibre-ropes reinforced and unreinforced adobe is evaluated. With a dynamic analysis by use of the finite element method and the computer program Sofisitk (Sofitik AG, Oberschleißheim) the earthquake resistance of single floor adobe buildings is shown. Use of struttings and a limitation of dimensions are recommended. Based on established design rules an example of an adobe house shows the design and the way of construction.
