Introduction. Multiple techniques of repair of cleft lip have been developed. Achieving an excellent aesthetic result; However the surgical techniques to cleft lip repair have not been able to restore the function in the orbicularis muscle, obtaining plane and inexpressive lips. Material and methods. You forms a group of 6 rabbits New Zealand race from 2.5 to 3 kg of weight that underwent an electromyographic study to obtain the basal activity and the insert activity in a study pre and post operative (Cleft lip repair) to document electromyographic changes compatible with alteration in the function of the orbicularis muscle. Results. They underwent the results the test of t of Paired Student obtaining: The basal activity doesn't present a difference statistically significant to 95% of trust, in the opposing values (t = 2.23; 5 gl; p = 0.076), the insert activity presents a difference statistically significant to 95% of trust (t = 6.708; 5 gl; p = 0.001). Conclusion. Clinically the electromyographic changes demonstrate that a not specific inflammatory process exists, without functional damage after the cleft lip repair. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
