Constipation is a common disease that strongly impacts patients' quality of life. However, its management can be difficult in practice. The assessment of chronic constipation in adults is primarily clinical. The interview must confirm the symptom, specify the severity and the impact; the examination must focus on the pathophysiological mechanism(s) involved. Additional examinations will only be requested in the event of doubt regarding the anomalies responsible for the constipation, or in the absence of a satisfactory response to first-line treatment. The first-line treatment of chronic constipation is based on the combination of hygienic and dietary measures and osmotic laxatives or ballasts taken over a prolonged period. In the event of rectal evacuation disorders, biofeedback rehabilitation is effective. Measuring colonic transit time, anorectal manometry, associated with an evacuation test, and defecography are useful functional examinations to clarify constipation and target treatment. The treatment of chronic constipation must always be medical as first intention. Invasive treatment of transit constipation involves total colectomy, diverting stomas and stomas for antegrade colonic irrigation. It must be a resort treatment, offered to selected patients. After the Second World War, children and young people in Germany had to be supported pedagogically. Minna Specht, an exiled educator, developed an educational programme that valued children and young people, not as the perpetrators but as victims of the war, and made it possible to deal with them pedago-gically after the Second World War. This text elaborates on Minna Specht's concept and points out that exiled educators had plenty of ideas about education after the Second World War that are rarely taken into account.

Objectives: To evaluate the efficacy of 24 weeks of treatment with Méziéres method in a Spanish elite second-division soccer team with low back pain (LBP), analyzing their state of back health, flexibility, pain, and steps speed. Design: Double-blind randomized controlled trial. Methods: A total of 20 players with LBP from the second soccer division league were allocated equally to the experimental and control groups (n= 10) as per selection criteria and participated in 2 different rehabilitation programs. The postural Méziéres method was implemented in the experimental group, whereas the standard European treatment protocol for LBP was implemented in the control group. Both treatments had a twice weekly session of 40 minutes duration for 24 weeks consecutively with a follow-up in the fourth, 12th, and 24th weeks. Results: Multivariate analysis of covariance with the baseline assessment as a covariance showed a significant difference between groups at the 12th and 24th weeks of the treatment for pain and back functionality. A relevant difference between the experimental and control groups was shown only at the 24th week of the treatment (P < .05) for back flexibility. A significant difference between groups was reported for the quality of life scale and steps speed at the 24th week of the treatment (P> .05). Conclusion: The Méziéres method showed a positive effect in the elite soccer athletes with nonspecific chronic LBP and can be used as an alternative treatment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To study the reeducation effect of copper thiol complexes on macrophage morphology and cytokine expression. The effect of copper thiol complexes was assessed on murine macrophages by the cell morphology observed through optical microscopy, while the expression of cytokines by protein abundance after stimulation. A viability experiment was performed on PMBC to confirm that copper complexes do not affect other cells. The M1 shape was reported after treatment with copper thiol complexes at 1–200 µM, while M2 behavior was documented between 50 and 800 µM. Surprisingly, a thin elongate morphology was observed between 400-800 µM like the M2 shape. The expression of M1 cytokines was noted ranging from 1 to 100 µM, with the highest yield at 1 µM (2243 pg/µL) for the copper-penicillamine complex. M2 production behavior was observed at 1–800 µM, with the highest abundance close to 1150 pg/µL (200–400 µM) was quantified from the copper-cysteine complex. Finally, LCCu complexes did not induce a cytotoxic response on PBMC while exhibiting a high IL-4 and IL-10 production, similar to their gold analogs. The capacity of copper thiol complexes to reeducate M1 to M2 morphoexpression can be promising for cell protection by using copper thiol penicillamine or immuno-regeneration of tissues when using copper thiol cysteine. The objective of this article was to present the treatments that can be offered as first-line therapy for overactive bladder (OAB) in France in 2023. Two reviewers conducted a review of the literature using the Medline/PubMed and SCOPUS databases without period restriction, but limiting the search to works in English or French. The search was performed using the following keywords alone or in combination: "overactive bladder", "treatment", "conservative", "first-line". The treatment of OAB is evolving more and more towards an individualized approach. There is therefore a wide range of treatments that can be proposed as first-line treatment, ranging from lifestyle modifications to posterior tibial nerve stimulation, including pharmacological treatments (anticholinergics, mirabegron, tadalafil in men), pelvic floor muscle training, local estrogen or pessaries. detailed clinical interview and a careful physical examination are sufficient in most cases to guide the first-line therapeutic prescription. Nonpharmacological options are preferred in the majority of cases. A patient-centered approach, using shared medical decision making, should enable the patient to be guided towards the best possible treatment from the first line. There is a wide range of treatments that can be prescribed as first line for patients with OAB, taking care to individualize the prescription to patients' profile and characteristics. Rehabilitation management of inflammatory rheumatism still has a major place, despite the progress in pharmacologic management of inflammatory rheumatism. The strategy of treating to target associated with biotherapy has shown some limitations in the improvement of the quality of life of the patients justifying the physical therapy. This management will differ according to the phenotypic presentation. There is a common basis with an indication for cardiorespiratory rehabilitation associated with muscle strengthening and flexibility exercises. In peripheral joint forms, hand rehabilitation and electrotherapy are no longer appropriate, whereas cryotherapy shows interesting data. Finally, balneotherapy only shows beneficial effects on the patients' quality of life. In axial disease, whole body cryotherapy has shown an effect on disease activity. Finally, in psoriatic arthritis, the application of mud baths as well as salt water has led to an improvement in disease activity. Finally, in enthesitis related to inflammatory rheumatism, shock waves and ultrasound are useful and effective. Thus, rehabilitative treatment has a key role to play in the improvement of patients' quality of life, with specificities depending on the phenotype. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Clinical work with brain injuries (stroke, traumatic brain injury, tumor...) raises thorny questions from epistemological, clinical, and therapeutic points of view. The organization of a therapeutic setting for rehabilitation purposes often requires setting targeted objectives, but it is equally concerned with the patients and their psychical functioning as a whole. If the emphasis placed on the rehabilitation of disorders and deficits is important, the need to resist sacrificing the patient's psychical reality on the altar of the stimulation of cognitive functions, and of adaptive and performative concerns, remains a major clinical and ethical issue. Based on their clinical experiences in neuropsychological rehabilitation, in private practice, and in psychotherapy in a rehabilitation department, the authors show how they were challenged by the movements inherent to therapeutic settings, seized by the singular psychical reality of their patients. Indeed, their lives disrupted by the experience of cerebral damage, as well as somatic and cognitive disorders, these patients are also confronted with the constraints of the setting of the rehabilitation work, with expectations in terms of efforts to be made, performances to be achieved, etc. At the same time, these patients are put to work both by the way their psychical reality is disturbed by this new and often unexpected event and by the way it deals with the trauma. Analyzing the changes observed in patients during rehabilitation or psychoanalytical psychotherapy sessions, the authors discern the way in which these different realities may collide, respond to each other, combine. The diversity of the clinical situations shows how the present and material dimension of the trauma is not enough to account for the patients' states of psychical suffering which may lead them, despite their good will, to mobilize behaviors of manifest opposition (aggressiveness) or latent opposition (depression) that interfere with the setting and the rehabilitation objectives. Indeed, the remobilization of past, unconscious psychical conflicts, linked to experiences of powerlessness, dependence, mastery, abandonment, plays a nodal role in the development of the therapeutic plan. These deferred actions make it possible to understand how cognitive difficulties are not reducible to neurological damage, and may be aggravated by the psychical conflicts reactivated during the proposed treatments. The reality of an accidental event meets the effects of internal motivations which may, unbeknownst to the patients, question their potential implication in the accident. Thus, clinicians can discover to what extent the neurological issue reinforces the psychical resistance to the potentialities of change and psychical elaboration, and vice versa. If not considered nor put to work, these psychical issues and defenses can constitute obstacles to the quality of the cognitive rehabilitation plan, to the rehabilitation of self-esteem, and even to the re-establishment of mental health. Cognitive disorders of cerebral origin encounter a psychical reality that is always singular, full of fragilities and resources. Only listening to the patients allows us to grasp what is bruised and revived in their psychical reality. This listening highlights the importance of a dialogue between neuropsychology and psychoanalysis, which cannot be totally separated from each other in a clinical context. Their combined perspectives allow the overcoming of a monolithic vision of the etiopathogenic factors and guarantee that the patient's subjectivity is taken into consideration. This is how therapeutic settings, challenged by the complexity of the patients' cognitive and psychical functioning, allow the latter to put themselves to work by mobilizing a mental activity where both the cognitive disorders and the psychical processes treating anxiety and depression in particular are expressed. Thanks to their ability to use their psychical processes of elaboration of the trauma, the patients can soften their defenses and their resistances, thereby mobilizing themselves for the exercises of rehabilitation that remain necessary. Although different, and sometimes in disagreement, psychoanalysis and neuropsychology have as common object the singularity of each patient. The possibility of a dialogue allowing for a listening to the psychical causality while taking note of the brain injuries underlying the cognitive disorders proves to be a precious condition of clinicians' capacity to accompany their patients in their torments and paradoxes. The quality of the care offered to these men and women, whose bodies and psyches have been damaged, depends on it: interdisciplinary dialogue within the same therapist or between two therapists is based on an alliance of theoretical and clinical rigor and flexibility, whatever the proposed setting. Aim. In a qualitative empirical exploration, the authors use case study research to identify opportunities for re-education of specific learning disabilities in two cases. They identify and analyse the methods and organisation of teaching and the intervention plan for change. They evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention procedures and highlight specific practical experiences of educators in working with pupils. Methods. The study analyses and interprets the risk of specific learning disabilities, identifies specific learning disabilities. In an empirical qualitative investigation, the authors use case studies and case studies that highlight two types of specific learning disabilities. Results. The studies confirm that specific developmental learning disabilities affect the lives not only of the pupils themselves, the parents, but not least the educators in the teaching process. The authors analyse and identify specific re-education methods in the implementation of the teaching process, pointing out the difficulty of solving the problem and unlearning special educators. Conclusion. The authors point out the need for selection of different methods of re-education of learning disorders on the basis of the individuality of the pupil, but also on the basis of different forms of solving problem areas in terms of recommendations of the special educator and the actual implementation of the teaching process by the educator. - Abstract
Introduction: Federation of Hand Emergency Services (FESUM) is a European network of hand emergency centers (called SOS hand centers) in France, Belgium and Luxembourg. The FESUM network includes 64 SOS Hand centers in France. In our university hospital, the FESUM-certified SOS hand has been part of the plastic surgery department since 2001. It has included, since 2016, postgraduate students ("residents") training in hand surgery who participate independently in the patient follow-up. The objective of this study was to analyze the characteristics of this population of patients with hand injuries and their satisfaction with this mode of follow-up. The secondary objective was to study the characteristics of the patient population treated by our center., Material and Method: We conducted a study on the follow-up of patients undergoing emergency hand surgery, prospective, single-center, declarative, anonymized, between May and October 2021 at the SOS main center of our university hospital at the "SOS Main" intern consultation. The demographic data, the main characteristics of the pathology, the elements of initial care and follow-up of the patients as well as their satisfaction were analyzed, as well as the satisfaction of the interns., Results: We included 323 patients. The population of patients treated generally corresponded to a young man, manual worker, who was initially treated in an outpatient department or in an SOS Hand consultation. The lesions most often represented were fractures (24%), tendon wounds (18%) and wounds without damage to noble tissues (16%). Follow-up consultations took place mainly 15days after the emergency intervention, lasted on average 10minutes and did not present excessive delays. Patient (91.2%) and post-graduate student (87.2%) satisfaction was high. However, postoperative physiotherapy follow-up was insufficient, as was self-rehabilitation., Conclusion: The integration of post-graduate student in a university plastic surgery department into the care of SOS Hand patients seems beneficial for all those involved, and for their training. The characteristics of the follow-up consultations by the intern in autonomous supervision corresponded to the high quality standards of the FESUM. The patients showed a high satisfaction rate. Better valorization of this consultation in "office surgery" should be considered., (Copyright © 2024 Elsevier Masson SAS. All rights reserved.)

21. From Enemies to Friends: German Prisoners-of-War in Michigan during World War II

- Abstract
During World War II, the United States government created a program, with the assistance of other Allied forces to house, care, and feed foreign Axis troops in the United States. Sent on Liberty ships to American shores, approximately 425,000 German prisoners arrived between 1943 and 1945. Stationed in camps across the country, these prisoners interacted with the citizenry and directly challenged their ideology. For prisoners sent to Michigan, the citizens willfully violated War Department guidelines concerning prisoner treatment. The violations were not inhumane. Rather, the disobedience came from being too friendly, supplying prisoners with food, conversation and clothing, which was expressly forbidden. Violating the orders from the War Department showed the humanness of the American citizens and created opportunities for personal relationships. Through these violations, German prisoners and Michigan farmers established relationships challenging the Nazi ideology. Enemies became friends, upsetting previous stereotypes of the German people during World War II. The notion of Germans being Nazis needs to be challenged in the educational setting, as the narrative proves otherwise. In Michigan, German prisoners were men, not Nazis. They missed home and shared their struggles after the war with their new American friends. The story of the prisoners held in Michigan, needs to be told, both as a narrative and within the overall history of German prisoners-of-war.

In 2013, a journal published an article entitled Earnest Apologies, in which a former Red Guard offered apologies to the teachers he had disgraced and tortured and to the classmates whose houses he had wrecked during The Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution (1966-1976. 'I was 14 years old and I was spellbound' did he admit, while accepting his own responsability. However, no previous time in history had allocated such a preval, ent role to education. It meant to Change Man and to re-educate men, to abolish the Three Great differences separating workers from peasants, cities from rural areas, and intellectuals from manual workers; it also aimed at reducing the Three separations isolating the intelligentsia from proletarian politics, and from peasant and working class life. Finally, it intended to radically transform the intellectuals' ideology through the assimilation of dialectical materalism. Such goals demanded that any form of neutrality, be it political, axiological, epistemological or pedagogical, be condemned and vilipended. With no regard for the long Chinese cultural tradition of self-discipline, of appropriate distance, of impartiality and of a no-interference (Wuwei) stance, Maoist totalitarianism destroyed the State's sovereign functions and the principles of equality in education. The revolutionary logic of Education, Re-education, Thought Reform and Overthrowing class domination was a nearimpossible task. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Exercise rehabilitation has been proposed for the management of Neurogenic Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (NTOS). To date there have been no reviews of the literature regarding exercise rehabilitation for NTOS and their proposed clinical rationale. Understanding various exercise protocols and their clinical rationale may help guide rehabilitation clinicians in their exercise selection when managing NTOS. A scoping review was conducted on exercise rehabilitation for NTOS from inception to March 2021 in the PubMed database. Forty-seven articles consisting of literature reviews, nonrandomized control trials, prospective and retrospective cohort studies, case series, case studies and clinical commentaries met the inclusion criteria. This scoping review provides a broad overview of the most common exercise protocols that have been published and examines the purported clinical rationale utilized in the management of NTOS. Conclusion. Introduction. Falls are a major public health problem as a result of the high frequency of these events and morbidity/mortality among elderly persons. A prevention policy is a potential means to reduce the incidence of falls. This study aimed to assess the impact of a balance workshop in a geriatric day-hospital (GDH) on the prevention of falls in olderadults. Method. This was a prospective, single centre study conducted in the GDH of a general hospital. Motor tests and a psychological assessment were performed at 2 months (M2), 6 months (M6)and 1 year (M12). Results. Sixty-five patients were included, aged 82.0 ± 7.7 years. Fifty-eight were women (89.2%). The statistical analyses showed a significant improvement in all motor tests during the follow-up at the defined intervals. The Timed Up and Go test (s) significantly decreased between inclusion, 19.1 ± 8.2, and M2, 15.8 ± 6.6 (P = 0.01 inclusion vs M2), then was stable at M6, 16.4 ± 6.9 (P = 0.04 inclusion vs M6) and at M12, 16.3 ± 6.4 (P = 0.04 inclusion vs M12). There was also significant psychological improvement throughout follow-up. The score on the Falls Efficacy Scale International-I decreased from 11.6 ± 6.1 at inclusion to 8.2 ± 5.5 at M2 (P = 0.001 inclusion vs. M2), 9.2 ± 6.0 at M6 (P = 0.02 inclusion vs. M6), and 9.0 ± 6.1 at M12 (P = 0.02 inclusion vs. M12). Conclusion. This study highlights the value and the need for balancing workshops in primary care. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The word finding problems, is one of the most common pathological signs in neuropsychology. Indeed, it is highlighted in all types of aphasia. In a rehabilitation session, when a patient has this sign, the therapist helps him to overcome his disorder by using facilitation means when the objective is to help the patient to produce the adequate item, thanks to facilitating method accessing to the right word. To do this, the therapists can use computer tools that has become indispensable in our days. For this purpose, we have established a software for rehabilitation of word finding problems, which is based on a number of oral aids, which aim to facilitate access to the word. Introduction: Distal clavicular osteolysis (DCO) is a musculoskeletal pathology characterized by shoulder pain. Given the high prevalence of shoulder pain due to rotator cuff and subacromial injuries, DCO is often overlooked. Conservative therapy is indicated prior to surgical intervention. However, no literature has described conservative management of DCO in detail. This report will outline conservative management details for DCO to guide future research and clinicians. Case presentation: A 24-year-old female hockey player presented with trauma-induced injury, where she was diagnosed with type II acromio-clavicular joint separation. She presented 5-months later with residual pain and limitations in ranges of motion (ROM). Radiographic images revealed DCO. Management and outcome: Management entailed strict rest from overhead activities followed by rehabilitation and manual therapy. 6-months later the patient reported resolution of symptoms, improved ROMs, and activities of daily living. Summary: DCO can be difficult to diagnose given its limited etiological understanding, low incidence, and poor radiographic sensitivity. DCO diagnosis should be considered in cases with unresolving shoulder pain. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Amblyopia is a developmental disorder that affects the entire visual system and the visual cortex beyond the extra-striated cortex. The main functional manifestation is an impairment of visual acuity in one eye called "the dominated eye". However, all the parameters of visual function are disturbed since it can be demonstrated a deficit in contrast sensitivity or stereoscopic vision. In addition, a Vernier visual hyperacuity is frequently observed in the "healthy" eye. This developmental disorder can only occur during the critical period of brain development, a period of maturation and greater brain plasticity, and more readily at its peak, before the age of 3. Rehabilitation is also most effective during this period. Amblyopia is due either to visual deprivation, or to strabismus or finally to anisometropia. It can also be associated with organic disorders in so-called "mixed" forms. Amblyopia is defined as a difference in visual acuity of at least one LogMAR visual acuity line. Except when there is a manifest strabismus, this visual deficit is often unrecognised in a child who does not complain and sees well with one eye. This shows the importance of screening, looking for all risky situations, such as a difference in refraction between the two eyes or hereditary factors. In all cases, confirmation of its presence is essential before starting rehabilitation. This demonstration is based on the measurement of refraction under cycloplegia, the ophthalmological and orthoptic assessment. Visual acuity or grating acuity can be measured by specific method according to the age of the child, with age-related difficulties. In order to be effective, rehabilitation requires the active cooperation of parents. It is then based on the prescription of total optical correction determined under cycloplegia which may sometimes be sufficient to correct this amblyopia. The rehabilitation itself is based on the occlusion or penalisation of the healthy eye allowing the dominated eye to develop its vision and must be supplemented by maintenance treatment until the end of the critical period. In its absence, there is a risk of recurrence. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Brief action planning (BAP) is a collaborative tool to support patients' self-management goal setting and action planning. BAP facilitates patient self-reflection, and provides opportunity to establish goals of their own priority. Case presentation: A 55 year-old female with recentonset low back pain with L5 nerve root distribution, described severe pain in the low back and sharp pain and tingle-sensations down to her right foot. Pain worsened with sitting, coughing, and bending. She was diagnosed with lumbar and other intervertebral disc disorder with radiculopathy (ICD 10: M51.1). Treatment: Initial treatment included reassurance, education, promotion of movement, and manual therapies. Symptoms worsened at the eighth visit (five weeks) where she also demonstrated paincatastrophizing behaviours and an over-reliance on passive treatment strategies (i.e., psychosocial factors or yellow flags). BAP was introduced into her treatment plan to set achievable goals for her care. Outcome: Decreased pain and disability were reported after incorporating BAP into care. Reduced pain-catastrophizing and reduced over-dependence on passive strategies were also demonstrated. Clinical gains were sustained at the 10-week follow-up assessment. Key clinical message: We describe the utilization of brief action planning as a technique for improving adherence to evidence-based clinical practice guideline recommendations in a patient with acute low back pain and radiculopathy, and late-onset psychosocial factors. Physical activity is defined as movement of the body resulting from muscle contraction and inducing energy expenditure. It can be adapted to a person's health status and have the objective of maintaining or improving health status. The link between sedentary lifestyle and the severity of symptoms in osteoarthritis is now well established, making adapted physical activity (APA) a first-line targeted treatment in osteoarthritis, in order to fight against the effects of a sedentary lifestyle, regardless of the phenotype or stage of the disease. The latest recommendations from EULAR, ACR and OARSI place APA, in the form of structured exercise programs for muscle strengthening, joint mobility, proprioception and aerobic work, as the core treatment for people with osteoarthritis. The benefits of APA in reducing pain and activity limitations, in the short, mid and long terms, in osteoarthritis, especially of the lower limbs, has been demonstrated in high-level clinical trials and meta-analyses, with effect-sizes comparable to those observed with pharmacological treatments. In clinical practice, the prescription of APA in people with osteoarthritis should still be encouraged. Particular attention should also be paid to patients' adherence at long term. This paper aims to present an experience developed between 1996 and 2018, with the perspective of promoting an education committed to the fight against prejudice and racism, by investing in actions and discussions based on reading literary works, with Elementary School students. The experience field occurred in a public school, located in the city of Goiânia, involving children from 7 to 9 years old. In order to reflect on issues observed during the experiment, activities were developed from reading the books Menina bonita do laço de fita (2000), by Ana Maria Machado, and Obax (2011), by André Neves were taken as references, as well as studies of Candido (1995), Fannon (2008), Munanga (2013), Schucman (2014), Bettelheim (2002) and Franz (1984). As a legal basis, National Curriculum Guidelines to the Education of Ethnic-Racial Relations and for Teaching of Afro-Brazilian and African History and Culture (2004) and Law nº. 11.645, of March 10, 2008, were made as references. This experience has shown that, as children accessed the work references, carried out the proposed activities and became involved in the promoted debates, they were able to deconstruct the stereotyped concepts they brought about the African continent. At the same time, they carried out a reflection exercise, which led them to self-recognition and the perception of different identities wealth. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Despite efficacy of surgery to reduce osteoarthritis related pain, quadriceps weakness is observed following surgery, even after several months or years. It has been shown that preoperative quadriceps strength is a relevant predictor of functional postoperative performances. Thus, preoperative rehabilitation might be a major determinant for patient independence. Currently, protocols heterogeneity does not allow researchers to conclude that preoperative strength training physiotherapy is useful. However, it is important to differentiate the most efficient ones from others. Therefore, the best protocols are detailed and the effects on pain, strength and function are presented. Objective: The objective of Our study was to describe the epidemiological, clinical, therapeutic and prognostic aspects of Nonunion of patella fractures. Patients Methods: It was a retrospective study done concerning 25 patients treated from January 2005 to December 2015 in the orthopedic trauma service CHU Bocar Sidy SALL Kati. Results: We gather together 25 cases of Nonunion of patella fractures disease among 28 cases which was about 89.28%. Our patients were divided into 20 men and 5 women, mean age was 36 years, ranging from ages 22 to 75 years. Posttraumatic period was 6-18 months. The initial fracture was neglected in 21 cases and treated in 4 cases. Physical examination revealed lameness in 92% of cases, atrophy of the quadriceps in 56% of cases, joint stiffness, 56% and an inter-fragmentary gap in 92% of patients. The radiographic data were consistent with pseudoarthrosis in all cases. The inter-fragmentary gap was 36 mm on average. The care of our patients was based on plugging and guy-wiring in 64 % of cases and strapping pre- and peri patella in 12% of cases. A partial patellectomy was practiced in 2 cases. A VY plasty of the quadriceps was recommended in 4 cases. The patients were reviewed after a mean of 10 months (8 months- 24 months). Functional outcomes analyzed using Bostman scores were excellent in 4 cases (16%), good in 18 cases (72%) and poor in 3 cases (12%). Conclusion: Nonunion of the patella is mostly due to the lack of treatment or wrong treatment leads. Treatment with plugging and guy-wiring seems the most appropriate method. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the 50s and 60s, before burn centres appeared, burn patients were primarily treated in surgical departments. They were then referred to sanatorium-type institutions, moving towards functional rehabilitation but without a really structured service. In the early 70s, Jean-Pierre Jouglard, Marseille Surgeon, Head of the Burn Treatment Center of the University Hospital of Marseille, collaborated with Dr. Madeleine Malavaud, in an RRF establishment, the Léon Bérard Hospital in Hyères (Var), to create, in 1974, the first French service dedicated to the rehabilitation of burn patients. The Léon Bérard hospital's burn rehabilitation service, which is still active today, helped spread new techniques from the United States of America to France in the 80s, by training young doctors to become rehabilitators. In 1979, it contributed to the creation of the French Society for the Study and Treatment of Burns, enabling patients to compare their experience by promoting the creation of the Association des Brûlés de France in 1983. The Léon Bérard hospital's burn rehabilitation service therefore occupies a prominent place in the history of burn rehabilitation in France. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
During the Allied occupation of the Axis countries, education and the revision of educational materials were seen as a means of ensuring future peace in Europe. Most scholarly literature on this topic has focused on the German case or has engaged in a German-Japanese comparison, neglecting the country in which the textbook revision process was first pioneered: Italy. Drawing primarily on the papers of the Allied occupying military governments, this article explores the parallels between the textbook revision processes in Allied-occupied Italy and Germany. It argues that, for the Allied occupiers involved in reeducation in Italy and Germany, the reeducation processes in these countries were inextricably linked. Furthermore, the institutional learning process that occurred in occupied Italy enabled the more thorough approach later applied in Germany. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article describes the main forms of cooperation and synergy between social services and the criminal justice system, in particular in cases where a social worker is required to interact with the judicial system within the framework of alternatives to detention. This paper briefly analyses the development of social assistants’ work, focusing on the periods where this role strengthened with regards to the execution of a criminal sentence. It also describes the function of punishment and the concept of social reintegration, and finally makes some reflections on victims’ rights. The author hopes that it will be possible to reform the “mild imprisonment” and he reflects on the importance of private social organisations in the field of the still unclear relationship between social services and the criminal justice system, in particular regarding restorative justice.

Infractionality or criminality in minor rank, even if it is a component of a general infractional phenomenon, it shows some particularities determined by biological, psychological and social characteristics of minor persons which Romanian legislature had in mind when it had foreseen their criminal liability. For this, The New riminal Code, stipulates some regulations on the educational measures regarding non privacy of freedom - three conditions from the file - Recommandations R nr. 16/1992 of the European Committee. Measures regarding the non privacy of freedom are sanctions applied by the court and the young defendant is still in the society with some obligations on his side or institution which was bound by the court in the name of the law. The issue of this measure is to educate and reeducate the minor person who commited a crime, to ensure a change in his conscience to respect social values.

Les résultats indiquent un effet négatif impressionnant du « SPESS »., This paper summarizes my thesis prepared and examined at the IREDU – Université de Bourgogne. This work is a reflection on a crucial problem of university failure in academic first cycle, particularly in first year. It deals with the effectiveness of the “SPESS” (Preparation Semester for Higher Scientific Studies instituted in order to help weak students). Based on the theoretical development of estimation of the school acquisitions production function, and on the costeffectiveness studies, the empirical part of this work concentrates on the linear and the logistical models associated respectively to the explanation of the different forms of success : different scores out of 20 and chances to pass in the higher level. The results indicate the impressing negative effect of the “SPESS”.

- Abstract
Objectives: Self-administration consists in the administration of medications by the patient himself during his hospitalization. The order of October 10, 2022 (Arrêté du 10 octobre 2022 modifiant l'arrêté du 6 avril 2011) modified the April 6, 2011 regulation to allow and regulate self-administration practices in hospital units. This evolution opens new perspectives for patient autonomy. The objective of this study is, firstly, to evaluate the rate of medication errors from patients under self-administration and secondly, to evaluate the satisfaction of patients and caregivers., Material and Methods: Eligible patients were recruited from a locomotor and polyvalent rehabilitation unit. After verification of eligibility, explanation given to the patient about the hospital self-administration of medication procedure and signature of the compliance agreement, patients started self-administration. Medication errors were reported during seven days. Evaluations of patient and staff satisfaction were also carried out., Results: Of the 83 patients admitted to the care service, 32 were able to experiment self-administered medication procedure during their hospitalization. To assess the safety of this practice, 1235 drug intakes were analyzed. Ninety-four administration errors were noted: 98% of them concerned analgesic drugs. All of these errors were omissions and none of them were rated as serious. The 20 patients questioned were all satisfied with self-administration. The 14 carers interviewed were satisfied with this change in practice., Conclusion: The medication self-administration process set up in the rehabilitation unit did not lead to serious medication errors. Patients and caregivers reported being satisfied with this new hospital practice., (Copyright © 2024 Académie Nationale de Pharmacie. Published by Elsevier Masson SAS. All rights reserved.)

SENSORIMOTOR cortex , *SHORT-term memory , *PSYCHOMOTOR disorders , *COGNITIVE ability , *AUDITORY selective attention - Abstract
This study aimed at investigating the effects of a rhythm-based therapeutic program among ADHD children by assessing performance in attentional and executive domains. Twenty-one children (mean age: 9.1, SD: 1.8; 3 females) who previously received a diagnosis of ADHD benefited from a rhythm-based training program (8 to 12 training sessions) delivered during a psychomotor therapy. The program consisted of rhythmic perceptuo-motor exercises, including sensorimotor synchronization to external beats (metronome, music). Attentional and executive performances were assessed with a test-retest experimental design. Attentional and executive performance improved in different domains: inhibition, cognitive impulsiveness and visuo-spatial working memory. A slight improvement was visible for divided attention, whereas sustained auditory attention, selective visual attention and delay aversion did not change after intervention. These results are in favor of tight relations between a rhythmic training program and some attentional and executive functions among ADHD children, with beneficial effects of the training on a variety of cognitive performances. This study seems promising for the purpose of supplementing chemical treatments among a range of ADHD patients in cognitive domain. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
