La collana pubblica gli atti del convegno annuale di Linguistica Computazionale (CLiC-it), che ha lo scopo di costituire un luogo di discussione di riferimento nel campo delle ricerce sulla linguistica computazionale. Gli atti includono interventi sul trattamento automatico della lingua, comprendenti le riflessioni teoriche e metodologiche sul tema, e forniscono un contributo importante per questo campo di ricerca. Le altre tematiche principali sono: la linguistica computazionale, la linguistica, le scienze cognitive, l'apprendimento automatico, l'informatica, la rappresentazione della conoscenza, l'information retrieval e l'umanistica digitale. L'organizzazione del convegno è il risultato dello sforzo dell'Associazione Italiana di Linguistica Computazionale (AILC http://www.ai-lc.it/), rappresentata ogni anno da alcuni dei membri organizzatori, che sono affiliati anche ad altre organizzazioni che operano nell'ambito della linguistica computazionale. This book presents the proceedings of the annual Conference of Computational Linguistics (CLiC-it), which aims to provide a forum for discussion in the field of computational linguistics. The proceedings include interventions on the automatic treatment of language, with theoretical and methodological reflections on the subject, and provide an important contribution to this field of research. The other main topics are: computational linguistics, linguistics, cognitive sciences, automatic learning, computer science, knowledge representation, information retrieval and digital humanities. The organization of the conference is the result of the effort of the Italian Association of Computational Linguistics (AILC http://www.ai-lc.it/), represented every year by some of the organizing members, who are also affiliated to other organizations operating in the field of computational linguistics.

This paper compares Active Learning selection strategies for sentiment analysis of Twitter data. We focus mainly on category-driven strategies, which select training instances taking into consideration the confidence of the system as well as the category of the tweet (e.g. positive or negative). We show that this combination is particularly effective when the performance of the system is unbalanced over the different categories. This work was conducted in the framework of automatically ranking the songs of “Festival di Sanremo 2017” based on sentiment analysis of the tweets posted during the contest. Questo lavoro confronta strategie di selezione di Active Learning per l’analisi del sentiment dei tweet focalizzandosi su strategie guidate dalla categoria. Selezioniamo istanze di addestramento combinando la categoria del tweet (per esempio positivo o negativo) con il grado di confidenza del sistema. Questa combinazione è particolarmente efficace quando la distribuzione delle categorie non è bilanciata. Questo lavoro aveva come scopo il ranking delle canzoni del “Festival di Sanremo 2017” sulla base dell’analisi del sentiment dei tweet postati durante la manifestazione.

We present a tool for annotation of linguistic data. AnnotatorPro offers both complete monitoring functionalities (e.g. inter-annotator agreement and agreement with respect to a gold standard) and highly flexible task design (e.g. token and document level annotation, adjudication and reconciliation procedures). We teste AnnotatorPro in several industrial annotation scenarios, coupled with Active Learning techniques. Presentiamo uno strumento per l’annotazione di dati linguistici. AnnotatorPro offre sia complete funzionalità di monitoraggio (es. accordo tra annotatori, accordo rispetto ad un gold standard), sia la alta flessibilità nel definire task di annotazione (per esempio, annotazione per parole o per documento, procedure di aggiudicamento e re-conciliazione). AnnotatorPro è stato sperimentato in diversi scenari di annotazione industriali, accoppiato con tecniche di Active Learning.

EVALITA is the evaluation campaign of Natural Language Processing and Speech Tools for the Italian language: since 2007 shared tasks have been proposed covering the analysis of both written and spoken language with the aim of enhancing the development and dissemination of resources and technologies for Italian. EVALITA is an initiative of the Italian Association for Computational Linguistics (AILC, http://www.ai-lc.it/) and it is supported by the NLP Special Interest Group of the Italian Association for Artificial Intelligence (AI*IA, http://www.aixia.it/) and by the Italian Association of Speech Science (AISV, http://www.aisv.it/). In this volume, we collect the reports of the tasks’ organisers and of the participants to all of the EVALITA 2016’s tasks, which are the following: ArtiPhone - Articulatory Phone Recognition; FactA - Event Factuality Annotation; NEEL-IT - Named Entity rEcognition and Linking in Italian Tweets; PoSTWITA - POS tagging for Italian Social Media Texts; QA4FAQ - Question Answering for Frequently Asked Questions; SENTIPOLC - SENTIment POLarity Classification. Notice that the volume does not include reports related to the IBM Watson Services Challenge organised by IBM Italy, but information can be found at http://www.evalita.it/2016/tasks/ibm-challenge. Before the task and participant reports, we also include an overview to the campaign that describes the tasks in more detail, provides figures on the participants, and, especially, highlights the innovations introduced at this year’s edition. An additional report presents a reflection on the outcome of two questionnaires filled by past participants and organisers of EVALITA, and of the panel “Raising Interest and Collecting Suggestions on the EVALITA Evaluation Campaign” held at CLIC-it 2015.

We present the system developed at FBK for the EVALITA 2016 Shared Task “QA4FAQ – Question Answering for Frequently Asked Questions”. A peculiar characteristic of this task is the total absence of training data, so we created a meaningful representation of the data using only word embeddings. We present the system as well as the results of the two submitted runs, and a qualitative analysis of them. Presentiamo il sistema sviluppato presso FBK per la risoluzione del task EVALITA 2016 “QA4FAQ Question Answering for Frequently Asked Questions”. Una caratteristica peculiare di questo task è la totale mancanza di dati di training, pertanto abbiamo creato una rappresentazione significativa dei dati utilizzando solamente word embeddings. Presentiamo il sistema assieme ai risultati ottenuti dalle due esecuzioni che abbiamo inviato e un’analisi qualitativa dei risultati stessi.

In this paper we present the FBK-NLP system which participated to the NEEL-IT task at Evalita 2016. We co’ncentrated our work on domain adaptation of an existed Named Entity Recognition tool. Particularly, we created a new annotated corpus for the NEEL-IT task using an Active Learning method. Our system obtained the best results for the task of Named Entity Recognition, with an F1 of 0.516. In questo articolo descriviamo il sistema FBK-NLP con il quale abbiamo partecipato al task NEEL-IT a Evalita 2016. Ci siamo concentrati sull’adattamento di un sistema per il riconoscimento di entità al dominio dei tweets. In particolare, abbiamo creato un nuovo corpus usando una metodologia basata su Active Learning. Il sistema ha ottenuto i risultati migliori sul sottotask di riconoscimento delle entità, con una F1 di 0,516.

The annual conference CLIC–it (''Italian Conference on Computational Linguistics'') is an initiative of the ''Italian Association of Computational Linguistics'' (AILC – www.ai-lc.it) which is intended to meet the need for a national and international forum for the promotion and dissemination of high-level original research in the field of Computational Linguistics (CL), with particular emphasis on Italian. The volume gathers the Proceedings of the ''Third Italian Conference on Computational Linguistics'' (CLiC–it 2016), held in Naples on 5-6 December 2016. The CLiC–it 2016 papers cover a wide range of topics in the area of computational linguistics and natural language (both written and spoken) processing, by targeting state–of–art theoretical results, experimental methodologies, technologies and application perspectives, and by addressing challenges, open issues and new perspectives related to current and novel trends of the discipline.

In the context of semantic interpretation of live soccer commentaries in Italian, we propose an annotation schema for relevant events and their argument structure, on whose basis we annotated a reference evaluation corpus. We investigated automatic event classification and used Active Learning to reduce the cost of acquiring domain-specific training data. Nel contesto dell’interpretazione di commenti calcistici in diretta, proponiamo uno schema per l’annotazione di eventi (e relativa struttura argomentativa), sulla base del quale abbiamo creato un corpus di valutazione di riferimento. Ci siamo occupati della classificazione automatica di eventi utilizzando Active Learning per ridurre lo sforzo per l’acquisizione di dati annotati specifici del dominio.
