Stroke rehabilitation continues to face challenges in accessibility and patient engagement, where traditional approaches often fall short. Virtual reality (VR)-based telerehabilitation offers a promising avenue, by enabling home-based recovery through immersive environments and gamification. This systematic review evaluates current VR solutions for upper-limb post-stroke recovery, focusing on design principles, safety measures, patient-therapist communication, and strategies to promote motivation and adherence. Following PRISMA 2020 guidelines, a comprehensive search was conducted across PubMed, IEEE Xplore, and ScienceDirect. The review reveals a scarcity of studies meeting the inclusion criteria, possibly reflecting the challenges inherent in the current paradigm of VR telerehabilitation systems. Although these systems have potential to enhance accessibility and patient autonomy, they often lack standardized safety protocols and reliable real-time monitoring. Human-centered design principles are evident in some solutions, but inconsistent patient involvement during the development process limits their usability and clinical relevance. Furthermore, communication between patients and therapists remains constrained by technological barriers, although advancements in real-time feedback and adaptive systems offer promising solutions. This review underscores the potential of VR telerehabilitation to address critical needs in upper-limb stroke recovery while highlighting the importance of addressing existing limitations to ensure broader clinical implementation and improved patient outcomes.

The field of serious games for health has grown significantly, demonstrating effectiveness in various clinical contexts such as stroke, spinal cord injury, and degenerative neurological diseases. Despite their potential benefits, therapists face barriers to adopting serious games in rehabilitation, including limited training and game literacy, concerns about cost and equipment availability, and a lack of evidence-based research on game effectiveness. Serious games for rehabilitation often involve repetitive exercises, which can be tedious and reduce motivation for continued rehabilitation, treating clients as passive recipients of clinical outcomes rather than players. This study identifies gaps and provides essential insights for advancing serious games in rehabilitation, aiming to enhance their engagement for clients and effectiveness as a therapeutic tool. Addressing these challenges requires a paradigm shift towards developing and co-creating serious games for rehabilitation with therapists, researchers, and stakeholders. Furthermore, future research is crucial to advance the development of serious games, ensuring they adhere to evidence-based principles and engage both clients and therapists. This endeavor will identify gaps in the field, inspire new directions, and support the creation of practical guidelines for serious games research.

The ThEdu series pursues the smooth transition from an intuitive way of doing mathematics at secondary school to a more formal approach to the subject in STEM education, while favouring software support for this transition by exploiting the power of theorem-proving technologies. What follows is a brief description of how the present volume contributes to this enterprise. The 12th International Workshop on Theorem Proving Components for Educational Software(ThEdu'23), was a satellite event of the 29th international Conference on Automated Deduction (CADE 2023), July 1-4, 2023, Rome, Italy. ThEdu'23 was very successful, with one invited talk, by Yves Bertot (Inria, France), "The challenges of using Type Theory to teach Mathematics", and seven regular contributions. An open call for papers was then issued, to which eight contributions were submitted. Seven submissions have been accepted by our reviewers, who jointly produced at least three careful reports on each of the contributions. The resulting revised papers are collected in the present volume. We, the volume editors, hope that this collection of papers will further promote the development of theorem-proving based software, and that it will allow to improve the mutual understanding between computer scientists, mathematicians and stakeholders in education. The pursue of what are properties that can be identified to permit an automated reasoning program to generate and find new and interesting theorems is an interesting research goal (pun intended). The automatic discovery of new theorems is a goal in itself, and it has been addressed in specific areas, with different methods. The separation of the "weeds", uninteresting, trivial facts, from the "wheat", new and interesting facts, is much harder, but is also being addressed by different authors using different approaches. In this paper we will focus on geometry. We present and discuss different approaches for the automatic discovery of geometric theorems (and properties), and different metrics to find the interesting theorems among all those that were generated. After this description we will introduce the first result of this article: an undecidability result proving that having an algorithmic procedure that decides for every possible Turing Machine that produces theorems, whether it is able to produce also interesting theorems, is an undecidable problem. Consequently, we will argue that judging whether a theorem prover is able to produce interesting theorems remains a non deterministic task, at best a task to be addressed by program based in an algorithm guided by heuristics criteria. Therefore, as a human, to satisfy this task two things are necessary: an expert survey that sheds light on what a theorem prover/finder of interesting geometric theorems is, and - to enable this analysis - other surveys that clarify metrics and approaches related to the interestingness of geometric theorems. ADG is a forum to exchange ideas and views, to present research results and progress, and to demonstrate software tools at the intersection between geometry and automated deduction. The conference is held every two years. The previous editions of ADG were held in Hagenberg in 2021 (online, postponed from 2020 due to COVID-19), Nanning in 2018, Strasbourg in 2016, Coimbra in 2014, Edinburgh in 2012, Munich in 2010, Shanghai in 2008, Pontevedra in 2006, Gainesville in 2004, Hagenberg in 2002, Zurich in 2000, Beijing in 1998, and Toulouse in 1996. The 14th edition, ADG 2023, was held in Belgrade, Serbia, in September 20-22, 2023. This edition of ADG had an additional special focus topic, Deduction in Education. New results are presented on a high-statistics measurement of Collins and Sivers asymmetries of charged hadrons produced in deep inelastic scattering of muons on a transversely polarised $^6$LiD target. The data were taken in 2022 with the COMPASS spectrometer using the 160 \gevv\ muon beam at CERN, balancing the existing data on transversely polarised proton targets. The first results from about two-thirds of the new data have total uncertainties smaller by up to a factor of three compared to the previous deuteron measurements. Using all the COMPASS proton and deuteron results, both the transversity and the Sivers distribution functions of the $u$ and $d$ quark, as well as the tensor charge in the measured $x$-range are extracted. In particular, the accuracy of the $d$ quark results is significantly improved.

The COMPASS Collaboration performed measurements of the Drell-Yan process in 2015 and 2018 using a 190 GeV/c $\pi^{-}$ beam impinging on a transversely polarised ammonia target. Combining the data of both years, we present final results on the amplitudes of the five azimuthal modulations in the dimuon production cross section. Three of these transverse-spin-dependent azimuthal asymmetries (TSAs) probe the nucleon leading-twist Sivers, transversity, and pretzelosity transverse-momentum dependent (TMD) parton distribution functions (PDFs). The other two are induced by subleading effects. These TSAs provide unique new inputs for the study of the nucleon TMD PDFs and their universality properties. In particular, the Sivers TSA observed in this measurement is consistent with the fundamental QCD prediction of a sign change of naive time-reversal-odd TMD PDFs when comparing the Drell-Yan process with semi-inclusive measurements of deep inelastic scattering. Also, within the context of model predictions, the observed transversity TSA is consistent with the expectation of a sign change for the Boer-Mulders function.

Predictive flame spread models based on temperature dependent pyrolysis rates require numerous material properties as input parameters. These parameters are typically derived by optimisation and inverse modelling using data from bench scale experiments such as the cone calorimeter. The estimated parameters are then transferred to flame spread simulations, where self-sustained propagation is expected. A fundamental requirement for this transfer is that the simulation model used in the optimisation is sufficiently sensitive to the input parameters that are important to flame spread. Otherwise, the estimated parameters will have an increased associated uncertainty that will be transferred to the flame spread simulation. This is investigated here using a variance-based global sensitivity analysis method, the Sobol indices. The sensitivities of a cone calorimeter and a horizontal flame spread simulation to 15 effective properties of polymethyl methacrylate are compared. The results show significant differences between the setups: the cone calorimeter is dominated by strong interaction effects between two temperature dependent specific heat values, whereas the flame spread is influenced by several parameters. Furthermore, the importance of some parameters for the cone calorimeter is found to be time-varying, suggesting that single-value cost functions may not be sufficient to account for all sensitive parameters during optimisation.

The liquidus temperature is an important parameter in understanding the crystalline behavior of materials and in the operation of blast furnaces. Its modeling can be carried out by linear and nonlinear methods through data, considering the artificial neural network a modeling method with high efficiency because it presents the theorem of universal approximation and with that better performances and possibility of greater oscillations. The best linear model and the best nonlinear model were modeled by structural parameters and presented a good numerical approximation, thus demonstrating that mathematical modeling can be performed using structural arguments and also showing a dimensionality reduction method for modeling a thermophysical property of the materials., Comment: 11 pages, 8 figures, 3 tables

Electrical conductivity is of fundamental importance in electric arc furnaces (EAF) and the interaction of this phenomenon with the process slag results in energy losses and low optimization. As mathematical modeling helps in understanding the behavior of phenomena and it was used to predict the electrical conductivity of EAF slags through artificial neural networks. The best artificial neural network had 100 neurons in the hidden layer, with 6 predictor variables and the predicted variable, electrical conductivity. Mean absolute error and standard deviation of absolute error were calculated, and sensitivity analysis was performed to correlate the effect of each predictor variable with the predicted variable., Comment: 8 pages, 6 figures, 1 table (AISTech 2023 - Presented and Accepted)

The introduction of automated deduction systems in secondary schools face several bottlenecks. Beyond the problems related with the curricula and the teachers, the dissonance between the outcomes of the geometry automated theorem provers and the normal practice of conjecturing and proving in schools is a major barrier to a wider use of such tools in an educational environment. Since the early implementations of geometry automated theorem provers, applications of artificial intelligence methods, synthetic provers based on inference rules and using forward chaining reasoning are considered to be more suited for education proposes. Choosing an appropriate set of rules and an automated method that can use those rules is a major challenge. We discuss one such rule set and its implementation using the geometry deductive databases method (GDDM). The approach is tested using some chosen geometric conjectures that could be the goal of a 7th year class (approx. 12-year-old students). The 11th International Workshop on Theorem Proving Components for Educational Software (ThEdu'22), was a satellite event of the 8th Federated Logic Conference (FLoC 2022), July 31-August 12, 2022, Haifa, Israel ThEdu'22 was a vibrant workshop, with two invited talk by Thierry Dana-Picard (Jerusalem College of Technology, Jerusalem, Israel) and Yoni Zohar (Bar Ilan University, Tel Aviv, Israel) and four contributions. An open call for papers was then issued, and attracted seven submissions. Those submissions have been accepted by our reviewers, who jointly produced at least three careful reports on each of the contributions. The resulting revised papers are collected in the present volume. The contributions in this volume are a faithful representation of the wide spectrum of ThEdu, ranging from those more focused on the automated deduction research, not losing track of the possible applications in an educational setting, to those focused on the applications, in educational settings, of automated deduction tools and methods. We, the volume editors, hope that this collection of papers will further promote the development of theorem-proving based software, and that it will allow to improve the mutual understanding between computer scientists, mathematicians and stakeholders in education. While this volume goes to press, the next edition of the ThEdu workshop is being prepared: ThEdu'23 will be a satellite event of the 29th international Conference on Automated Deduction (CADE 2023), July 1-4, 2023, Rome, Italy.

Relative survival represents the preferred framework for the analysis of population cancer survival data. The aim is to model the survival probability associated to cancer in the absence of information about the cause of death. Recent data linkage developments have allowed for incorporating the place of residence into the population cancer data bases; however, modeling this spatial information has received little attention in the relative survival setting. We propose a flexible parametric class of spatial excess hazard models (along with inference tools), named "Relative Survival Spatial General Hazard" (RS-SGH), that allows for the inclusion of fixed and spatial effects in both time-level and hazard-level components. We illustrate the performance of the proposed model using an extensive simulation study, and provide guidelines about the interplay of sample size, censoring, and model misspecification. We present a case study using real data from colon cancer patients in England. This case study illustrates how a spatial model can be used to identify geographical areas with low cancer survival, as well as how to summarize such a model through marginal survival quantities and spatial effects.

The viscosity of lead-containing glasses is of fundamental importance for the manufacturing process, and can be predicted by algorithms such as artificial neural networks. The SciGlass database was used to provide training, validation and test data of chemical composition, temperature and viscosity for the construction of artificial neural networks with node variation in the hidden layer. The best model built with training data and validation data was compared with 7 other models from the literature, demonstrating better statistical evaluations of mean absolute error and coefficient of determination to the test data, with subsequent sensitivity analysis in agreement with the literature. Skewness and kurtosis were calculated and there is a good correlation between the values predicted by the best neural network built with the test data., Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures, 2 tables

This work aimed to mathematically model the glass transition temperature (Tg), one of the most important parameters regarding the behavior of slag, responsible for the sudden change in thermomechanical properties of non-crystalline materials, by the chemical composition of the SiO2-Na2O-CaO system, widely applicable in the production of glasses and constituent of iron, magnesium and aluminum metallurgy slags. The SciGlass database was used to provide data for mathematical modeling through the Python programming language, using the method of least squares. A new equation was established, called P Model, and it presented a lower mean absolute error and lower standard deviation of absolute errors in relation to 3 equations in the literature. The raised equation provides significant results in the mathematical modeling of Tg by the chemical system SiO2-Na2O-CaO, valid for the limits of the data used in the mathematical modeling., Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures, 2 tables (CONTECC 2022 - Accepted and presented)

The production of vector mesons in deep inelastic scattering is an interesting yet scarsely explored channel to study the transverse spin structure of the nucleon and the related phenomena. The COMPASS collaboration has performed the first measurement of the Collins and Sivers asymmetries for inclusively produced $\rho^0$ mesons. The analysis is based on the data set collected in deep inelastic scattering in $2010$ using a $160\,\,\rm{GeV}/c$ $\mu^+$ beam impinging on a transversely polarized $\rm{NH}_3$ target. The $\rho^{0}$ mesons are selected from oppositely charged hadron pairs, and the asymmetries are extracted as a function of the Bjorken-$x$ variable, the transverse momentum of the pair and the fraction of the energy $z$ carried by the pair. Indications for positive Collins and Sivers asymmetries are observed.

We report on a measurement of Spin Density Matrix Elements (SDMEs) in hard exclusive $\rho ^0$ meson muoproduction at COMPASS using 160~GeV/$c$ polarised $ \mu ^{+}$ and $ \mu ^{-}$ beams impinging on a liquid hydrogen target. The measurement covers the kinematic range 5.0~GeV/$c^2$ $< W <$ 17.0~GeV/$c^2$, 1.0 (GeV/$c$)$^2$ $< Q^2 <$ 10.0 (GeV/$c$)$^2$ and 0.01 (GeV/$c$)$^2$ $< p_{\rm{T}}^2 <$ 0.5 (GeV/$c$)$^2$. Here, $W$ denotes the mass of the final hadronic system, $Q^2$ the virtuality of the exchanged photon, and $p_{\rm{T}}$ the transverse momentum of the $\rho ^0$ meson with respect to the virtual-photon direction. The measured non-zero SDMEs for the transitions of transversely polarised virtual photons to longitudinally polarised vector mesons ($\gamma^*_T \to V^{ }_L$) indicate a violation of $s$-channel helicity conservation. Additionally, we observe a dominant contribution of natural-parity-exchange transitions and a very small contribution of unnatural-parity-exchange transitions, which is compatible with zero within experimental uncertainties. The results provide important input for modelling Generalised Parton Distributions (GPDs). In particular, they may allow one to evaluate in a model-dependent way the role of parton helicity-flip GPDs in exclusive $\rho ^0$ production.
