In this paper, we removed the restriction that the labeling of vertices could not be repeated, and presented the concept of magical colorings including edge-magic coloring, edge-difference coloring, felicitous-difference coloring, and graceful-difference coloring. We studied the magical colorings on the tree and proved the existence of four kinds of magical colorings on the tree from a set-ordered edge-magic labeling. Further, we revealed the transformation relationship between these kinds of colorings.

Abstract Background Mucous membrane pemphigoid (MMP) is an autoimmune blistering disease (AIBD). Some reports suggest that it has a drug-related pathogenesis especially anti-hypertensive drug. Case presentation A 67-year-old man with a 7-year history of essential hypertension was prescribed enalapril maleate for 5 months. He presented at our department with pain, ulcers, and blisters on the oral mucosa. We performed clinical, histopathology, and direct immunofluorescence examinations, and findings were consistent with the diagnostic criteria for MMP. Consequently, we consulted with the cardiovascular physician and agreed to discontinue the enalapril maleate replacing it with irbesartan/hydrochlorothiazide tablets and topical corticosteroid therapies instead. The lesions healed without recurrence. Conclusions ABID induced by antihypertensive drugs have been reported, and enalapril maleate has been implicated as an antihypertensive agent that may trigger AIBDs, such as MMP. This case highlights the potential relationship between antihypertensive drugs and MMP, of which clinicians should be aware to accurately diagnose and promptly relieve patients’ pain.

Abstract Background The vast majority of pancreatic cancers have been shown to be insensitive to single-agent immunotherapy. Exploring the mechanisms of immune resistance and implementing combination therapeutic strategies are crucial for PDAC patients to derive benefits from immunotherapy. Deletion of BAP1 occurs in approximately 27% of PDAC patients and is significantly correlated with poor prognosis, but the mechanism how BAP1-deletion compromises survival of patients with PDAC remain a puzzle. Methods Bap1 knock-out KPC (KrasG12D/+; LSLTrp53R172H/+; Pdx-1-Cre) mice and control KPC mice, syngeneic xenograft models were applied to analysis the correlation between BAP1 and immune therapy response in PDAC. Immunoprecipitation, RT-qPCR, luciferase and transcriptome analysis were combined to revealing potential mechanisms. Syngeneic xenograft models and flow cytometry were constructed to examine the efficacy of the inhibitor of SIRT1 and its synergistic effect with anti-PD-1 therapy. Result The deletion of BAP1 contributes to the resistance to immunotherapy in PDAC, which is attributable to BAP1’s suppression of the transcriptional activity of HSF1. Specifically, BAP1 competes with SIRT1 for binding to the K80 acetylated HSF1. The BAP1-HSF1 interaction preserves the acetylation of HSF1-K80 and promotes HSF1-HSP70 interaction, facilitating HSF1 oligomerization and detachment from the chromatin. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the targeted inhibition of SIRT1 reverses the immune insensitivity in BAP1 deficient PDAC mouse model. Conclusion Our study elucidates an unrevealed mechanism by which BAP1 regulates immune therapy response in PDAC via HSF1 inhibition, and providing promising therapeutic strategies to address immune insensitivity in BAP1-deficient PDAC.

ObjectiveTo understand the prevalence of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection and the genotypes of prevalent HCV among drug users in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region (Inner Mongolia). MethodsA cross-sectional survey was conducted from April to June 2022 among all newly admitted drug users (n = 1 659) at AIDS sentinel surveillance sites in four cities of Inner Mongolia. Participants were interviewed and blood samples were collected for relevant information, anti-HCV/HCV nucleic acid detection, and genotyping of HCV RNA-positive specimens. Enumeration data were described by using proportions, and the chi-squared test was taken for comparisons between groups. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was carried out to identify risk factors for HCV infection among drug users. ResultsAmong 1 659 drug users aged 43.67 ± 9.52 years, 98.01% were male; 89.33% were of Han ethnicity; 85.65% had local household registration; 46.05% were married or cohabiting; and 73.54% reported education of junior high school and below. HCV infection was diagnosed in 13.62% of all drug users. The most common HCV genotypes among HCV-infected individuals were 1b, 3a, and 3b, and the majority of infections with different genotypes had intermediate or high HCV RNA viral loads. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that injecting and needle-sharing drug users had a significantly increased risk of HCV infection compared with those without the two drug use behaviors, with odds ratios (95% confidence intervals) of 2.994 (2.243 – 3.995) and 8.217 (4.128 – 16.355), respectively. ConclusionThe prevalent HCV genotypes among HCV-infected drug users in Inner Mongolia are 1b and 3a, and genotype 3a HCV infections have higher viral loads. Strengthening drug control, regular testing and treatment of HCV infection among drug users should be implemented to promptly detect and intervene in HCV infection in the population.

Abstract Background Decision analytic models and meta-analyses often rely on survival probabilities that are digitized from published Kaplan–Meier (KM) curves. However, manually extracting these probabilities from KM curves is time-consuming, expensive, and error-prone. We developed an efficient and accurate algorithm that automates extraction of survival probabilities from KM curves. Methods The automated digitization algorithm processes images from a JPG or PNG format, converts them in their hue, saturation, and lightness scale and uses optical character recognition to detect axis location and labels. It also uses a k-medoids clustering algorithm to separate multiple overlapping curves on the same figure. To validate performance, we generated survival plots form random time-to-event data from a sample size of 25, 50, 150, and 250, 1000 individuals split into 1,2, or 3 treatment arms. We assumed an exponential distribution and applied random censoring. We compared automated digitization and manual digitization performed by well-trained researchers. We calculated the root mean squared error (RMSE) at 100-time points for both methods. The algorithm’s performance was also evaluated by Bland–Altman analysis for the agreement between automated and manual digitization on a real-world set of published KM curves. Results The automated digitizer accurately identified survival probabilities over time in the simulated KM curves. The average RMSE for automated digitization was 0.012, while manual digitization had an average RMSE of 0.014. Its performance was negatively correlated with the number of curves in a figure and the presence of censoring markers. In real-world scenarios, automated digitization and manual digitization showed very close agreement. Conclusions The algorithm streamlines the digitization process and requires minimal user input. It effectively digitized KM curves in simulated and real-world scenarios, demonstrating accuracy comparable to conventional manual digitization. High-power insulated gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs) are important components of traction inverter. It is important to ensure the suitable temperature of the IGBT module for keeping the operation of trains efficient and safe. Due to the significant differences in train operating environment and traction performance, the cooling requirements for IGBT are also different. Therefore, identifying and matching various parameters of operating parameters of flow and heat transfer in high-power-density IGBT module liquid-cooling plate is of great significance to achieve optimal energy efficiency. Based on the Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes equations, shear stress transport k–ω turbulence model, and orthogonal experimental design, the flow and heat transfer characteristics of the liquid-cooling plate were simulated, and the numerical method and settings were verified experimentally. The results show that the single-parameter mapping relationship between the operating parameters and cooling performance indices (pressure drop, temperature rise, and maximum surface temperature, corresponding to Δp, ΔT, and Tmax, respectively) of the liquid-cooling plate is clear, and the flow rate and physical properties of the cooling liquid have significant effects on the cooling performance. The multi-objective optimization method based on the radial basis function surrogate model and nondominated sorting genetic algorithm II can match operating parameters under the minimum of Δp, Tmax and maximum of ΔT. Considering the appropriate values of the three indexes comprehensively based on Pareto optimal solution set, the error between the calculated value and the predicted value is less than 8 % when the inlet flow rate is 20 L/min, the temperature is 330.68 K, the pressure is 2.2 bar and the calorific value is 75.2 kW/m2. The results can be to provide a method and database for engineers to design liquid-cooling plate for high-speed train IGBT to achieve the highest efficiency.

ABSTRACT Histone deacetylation affects Candida albicans (C. albicans) pathogenicity by modulating virulence factor expression and DNA damage. The histone deacetylase Sir2 is associated with C. albicans plasticity and maintains genome stability to help C. albicans adapt to various environmental niches. However, whether Sir2-mediated chromatin modification affects C. albicans virulence is unclear. The purpose of our study was to investigate the effect of Sir2 on C. albicans pathogenicity and regulation. Here, we report that Sir2 is required for C. albicans pathogenicity, as its deletion affects the survival rate, fungal burden in different organs and the extent of tissue damage in a mouse model of disseminated candidiasis. We evaluated the impact of Sir2 on C. albicans virulence factors and revealed that the Sir2 null mutant had an impaired ability to adhere to host cells and was more easily recognized by the innate immune system. Comprehensive analysis revealed that the disruption of C. albicans adhesion was due to a decrease in cell surface hydrophobicity rather than the differential expression of adhesion genes on the cell wall. In addition, Sir2 affects the distribution and exposure of mannan and β-glucan on the cell wall, indicating that Sir2 plays a role in preventing the immune system from recognizing C. albicans. Interestingly, our results also indicated that Sir2 helps C. albicans maintain metabolic activity under hypoxic conditions, suggesting that Sir2 contributes to C. albicans colonization at hypoxic sites. In conclusion, our findings provide detailed insights into antifungal targets and a useful foundation for the development of antifungal drugs.IMPORTANCECandida albicans (C. albicans) is the most common opportunistic fungal pathogen and can cause various superficial infections and even life-threatening systemic infections. To successfully propagate infection, this organism relies on the ability to express virulence-associated factors and escape host immunity. In this study, we demonstrated that the histone deacetylase Sir2 helps C. albicans adhere to host cells and escape host immunity by mediating cell wall remodeling; as a result, C. albicans successfully colonized and invaded the host in vivo. In addition, we found that Sir2 contributes to carbon utilization under hypoxic conditions, suggesting that Sir2 is important for C. albicans survival and the establishment of infection in hypoxic environments. In summary, we investigated the role of Sir2 in regulating C. albicans pathogenicity in detail; these findings provide a potential target for the development of antifungal drugs.

SiCf/SiBCZr composites were prepared by polymer precursor impregnation and pyrolysis process with near stoichiometric ratio SiC fiber preform as reinforcement phase and SiBCZr multiphase ceramic precursor as impregnating reagent. The results highlighted that the SiCf/SiBCZr composites exhibited excellent ablative properties after ablative tests at 1200 ℃/3600 s and 1400 ℃/3600 s, and the strength retention rates of the composites reached 90% and 85%, respectively. This was mainly due to the liquid sealing effect of the ablative products represented by B2O3 and SiO2∙B2O3, which inhibited the ablative reaction by reducing the diffusion rate of the oxidation medium, and the solid pinning effect of the substances represented by SiO2, ZrO2, and ZrSiO4, which could play high viscosity and high strength characteristics to improve anti-erosion ability. The above-mentioned SiCf/SiBCZr composites with corrosion resistance, oxidation resistance, and ablative resistance provided a solid material foundation and technical support for the development of reusable spacecraft hot-end components.

Limited research has been conducted on the influences of fiber content on close-in blasting characteristics for ultrahigh-performance fiber-reinforced concrete (UHPFRC) beams. This paper aims to address this knowledge gap through experimental and mesoscale numerical methods. Experiments were conducted on ten UHPFRC beams built with varying steel fiber volumetric fractions subjected to close-in explosive conditions. Additionally, this study considered other parameters, such as the longitudinal reinforcement type and ratio. In the case of UHPFRC beams featuring normal-strength longitudinal reinforcement of diameters Φ12, Φ16, and Φ20, a reduction in maximum displacement by magnitudes of 19.6%, 19.5%, and 17.4% was observed, respectively, as the volumetric fractions of fiber increased from 1.0% to 2.5%. In addition, increasing the longitudinal reinforcement ratio and using high-strength steel longitudinal reinforcement both significantly reduced the deformation characteristics and increase the blasting resistances of UHPFRC beams. However, the effects on the local crushing and spalling damage were not significant. A mesoscale finite element model, which considers the impacts of fiber parameters on UHPFRC beam behaviors, was also established and well correlated with the test findings. Nevertheless, parametric analyses were further conducted to examine the impacts of the steel fiber content and length and the hybrid effects of various types of microfibers and steel fibers on the blasting performance of UHPFRC beams.

Abstract In view of its high mechanical performance, outstanding aesthetic qualities, and biological stability, zirconia has been widely used in the fields of dentistry. Due to its potential to produce suitable advanced configurations and structures for a number of medical applications, especially personalized created devices, ceramic additive manufacturing (AM) has been attracting a great deal of attention in recent years. AM zirconia hews out infinite possibilities that are otherwise barely possible with traditional processes thanks to its freedom and efficiency. In the review, AM zirconia’s physical and adhesive characteristics, accuracy, biocompatibility, as well as their clinical applications have been reviewed. Here, we highlight the accuracy and biocompatibility of 3D printed zirconia. Also, current obstacles and a forecast of AM zirconia for its development and improvement have been covered. In summary, this review offers a description of the basic characteristics of AM zirconia materials intended for oral medicine. Furthermore, it provides a generally novel and fundamental basis for the utilization of 3D printed zirconia in dentistry.

As the green bond market in China develops and its institutional structure improves, the green bond has emerged as a pivotal element within the broader framework of the green financial system. We focus on bond issuers in China’s A-shares from the years 2010 to 2021 and explore green bond issuance and the spillover effect of green technology innovation under the market attention perspective. Findings are that: (1) Green bond issuance can produce the spillover effect in the industry and significantly enhance peer enterprises’ green technology innovation. (2) From the viewpoint of market attention, analyst attention can significantly enhance the spillover effect of green bond issuance within the industry. The same is true for media attention and investor attention. (3) Further research shows that within the same industry, the spillover effect is more pronounced for state-owned enterprises, large-scale enterprises, and enterprises in regions with higher levels of green financial development. For the booming development of China’s green bond market and the sustainable development of enterprises, this paper provides theoretical and practical foundations.

Abstract Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a common chronic inflammatory disease of the oral mucosa, the mechanism of its inflammatory progression has not yet been fully elucidated. PA28γ plays a significant role in a variety of immune‐related diseases. However, the exact role of PA28γ in the pathogenesis of OLP remains unclear. Here, we demonstrated that PA28γ is overexpressed in epithelial cells and inflammatory cells of OLP tissues but has no significant relationship with OLP subtypes. Functionally, keratinocytes with high PA28γ expression could induce dendritic cell (DC) maturation and promote the T‐cell differentiation into Th1 cells in response to the immune response. In addition, we found that a high level of PA28γ expression is associated with high numbers of infiltrating mature DCs and activated T‐cells in OLP tissues. Mechanistically, keratinocytes with high PA28γ expression could promote the secretion of C–C motif chemokine (CCL)5, blocking CCL5 or/and its receptor CD44 could inhibit the induction of T‐cell differentiation by keratinocytes with high PA28γ expression. In conclusion, we reveal that keratinocytes with high expression of PA28γ in OLP can induce DC maturation and promote T‐cell differentiation through the CCL5‐CD44 pathway, providing previously unidentified mechanistic insights into the mechanism of inflammatory progression in OLP.

Development of power packs suspended under the diesel train towards high power and high integration has been driven by the development of technology. The wind environment of the railway lines is complex and variable, strong crosswind would exacerbate the complexity of the airflow around the train, impacting the cooling-fan performance of power pack, smoke dispersion, posing safety concerns. Using incompressible RANS equations and SST k-ω model, flow field around a diesel train, and effect of train speed, crosswind, and skirt board on cooling-fan flow and smoke dispersion are simulated and analyzed. Results reveal that airflow in power pack fans is affected by train speed and location, with the upstream fan exhibiting slightly higher airflow, especially in tail car power packs, with a difference of up to 7% (at 160 km/h). Skirt boards reduce fan airflow by about 6%. Crosswinds positively correlate with fan airflow variation, with windward and leeward fans experiencing increased and decreased airflow, respectively. Skirt board effectively reduces crosswind effects on power pack fans. Smoke intake into air-conditioning units (ACUs) correlates positively with train speed, particularly in downstream air-intakes of ACUs near smoke vents. Crosswinds significantly alter smoke distribution between leeward and windward sides of ACUs, especially at low crosswind speed. Smoke rarely enters ACUs when crosswind speed exceeds train speed. These findings offer insights for combustion-powered train operation and smoke vent design on train roofs.

Lithium compounds, a classic class of metal complex medicine that target GSK 3β and are widely known as mood-stabilizer, have recently been reported as potential anti-tumor drugs. The objective of this investigation was to explore the anticancer potential of lithium chloride (LiCl) and elucidate its mode of action in pancreatic cancer cells. The MTT, colony formation, and Edu assay were used to evaluate the impact of LiCl on pancreatic cancer cell proliferation. Various methods were employed to investigate the anti-tumor activity of LiCl and its underlying mechanisms. Cell cycle analysis and apoptosis detection assays were utilized for in vitro experiments, while the orthotopic pancreatic cancer mouse model was employed to evaluate the effectiveness of LiCl treatment in vivo. Furthermore, the impact of LiCl on the proliferation of patient-derived organoids was also studied. The results demonstrated that LiCl inhibited the proliferation of pancreatic cancer (PC) cells, induced G2/M phase arrest, and activated apoptosis. Notably, the triggering of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress by LiCl was observed, leading to the activation of the PERK/CHOP/GADD34 pathway, which subsequently promoted apoptosis in PC cells. In the future, Lithium compounds could become an essential adjunct in the treatment of human pancreatic cancer.

As a traditional bone implant material, titanium (Ti) and its alloys have the disadvantages of lack of biological activity and susceptibility to stress shielding effect. Adipose stem cells (ADSCs) and exosomes were combined with the scaffold material in the current work to effectively create a hydroxyapatite (HA) coated porous titanium alloy scaffold that can load ADSCs and release exosomes over time. The composite made up for the drawbacks of traditional titanium alloy materials with higher mechanical characteristics and a quicker rate of osseointegration. Exosomes (Exos) are capable of promoting the development of ADSCs in porous titanium alloy scaffolds with HA coating, based on experimental findings from in vitro and in vivo research. Additionally, compared to pure Ti implants, the HA scaffolds loaded with adipose stem cell exosomes demonstrated improved bone regeneration capability and bone integration ability. It offers a theoretical foundation for the combined use of stem cell treatment and bone tissue engineering, as well as a design concept for the creation and use of novel clinical bone defect repair materials.

Geoparks in China have been a great success story, with 284 national geoparks and 41 of them accorded UNESCO international status, the highest number for any country in the world. We track the progress of one of the geoparks, Luoping Biota National Geopark in Yunnan Province, from initial plans after its discovery as a key site for the exceptional preservation of Middle Triassic marine fossils in 2007, to acceptance as a National Geopark in 2011. Geoparks combine great scientific importance with accessibility and attraction for tourists. The scientific importance of Luoping is in the fossils, thousands of specimens of marine invertebrates, fishes and reptiles, together with rare elements from land (e.g. insects, plants), representing an important phase in the Mesozoic Marine Revolution, when life was recovering from devastation at the end of the Permian, and 8 million years later, had developed stable ecosystems with a new structure, dominated by predatory fishes and reptiles. The touristic importance of the Luoping Biota Geopark has already been demonstrated by rapid development of facilities and high visitor numbers.

Depression has several negative effects on emotion as well as learning and memory abilities. Previous studies showed that depression could exacerbate inflammation, which in turn further aggravated depression. Deferoxamine (DFO) is a chelating agent binding iron and aluminium, and is clinically applied to treat acute ion poisoning and hemochromatosis. Researches showed that it could reduce inflammation via increasing the expression of hypoxia-inducible factor-1alpha (HIF-1α). Here, we established a chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) model to investigate whether DFO exerted a neuroprotective function in depression. The results demonstrated that CUMS (4 weeks) effectively induced depression-like behaviors in mice based on sucrose preference test (SPT), forced swim test (FST), tail suspension test (TST), open field test (OFT), and elevated plus-maze test (EPT). It also brought cognitive deficits based on Morris water maze (MWM) test and the impairment of synaptic plasticity based on in vivo electrophysiological recordings. Additionally, CUMS exposure significantly decreased the expression of hippocampal synapse related proteins and the spine density of neurons in the DG region, accompanied by increasing the expression of hippocampal inflammatory cytokines, and promoted the activation of microglia in the hippocampus. The expression of HIF-1α was down-regulated as expected. However, DFO distinctly reversed the CUMS-induced impairments. The mechanism is associated with the DFO inhibition of inflammation by upregulating HIF-1 expression, thereby alleviating a series of pathology changes. Together, these findings suggest that DFO likely plays a protective role in cognitive impairments and synaptic plasticity deficits resulting from depression.

Facade and rooftop agriculture has great potential in regulating urban local microclimate, building energy conservation and carbon emission reduction. This study aims to address the limitation that the existing studies lack multi-effect simulations of integrated implementation of facade and rooftop agriculture. It takes into account the variability and complexity of thermal coefficients in planting layers during the simulations. By analyzing in-situ observations, the study examines the regulatory impact of integrated agriculture on urban microclimate. Furthermore, it uses observed data instead of DeST temperature database data to simulate the energy-saving effect and carbon emission reduction. In order to analyse the average economic efficiency of rooftop and facade agriculture in China, the study conducts a meta-analysis of existing cases in China. The results of the study are as follows: (1) The thermal insulation efficiency of the facade and rooftop integrated agriculture varies with weather conditions and diurnal variations. It reaches the strongest (1.68°C) on sunny days and around noon, (2) The integrated implementation of facade and rooftop agriculture on a normal home building in Changsha can save a total of 12,226.30 kW·h (5%) of electricity per year, and thus reducing 2,809.26 kg of carbon emissions, and (3) Based on meta-analysis and LCA calculation, the average net present value of the project in China for 40a is RMB -937712.18. The economic efficiency needs to be optimized. The results of this study reveal the ideal ecological benefits of facade and rooftop agriculture and the economic efficiency that hinders their implementation, providing a theoretical basis for building energy conservation and renovation, and the economic efficiency optimization in the regions with hot summer and cold winter.

BackgroundPredicting intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG)-resistant Kawasaki disease (KD) can aid early treatment and prevent coronary artery lesions. A clinically consistent predictive model was developed for IVIG resistance in KD.MethodsIn this retrospective cohort study of children diagnosed with KD from January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2021, a scoring system was constructed. A prospective model validation was performed using the dataset of children with KD diagnosed from January 1 to June 2022. The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression analysis optimally selected baseline variables. Multivariate logistic regression incorporated predictors from the LASSO regression analysis to construct the model. Using selected variables, a nomogram was developed. The calibration plot, area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), and clinical impact curve (CIC) were used to evaluate model performance.ResultsOf 1975, 1,259 children (1,177 IVIG-sensitive and 82 IVIG-resistant KD) were included in the training set. Lymphocyte percentage; C-reactive protein/albumin ratio (CAR); and aspartate aminotransferase, sodium, and total bilirubin levels, were risk factors for IVIG resistance. The training set AUC was 0.825 (sensitivity, 0.723; specificity, 0.744). CIC indicated good clinical application of the nomogram.ConclusionThe nomogram can well predict IVIG resistance in KD. CAR was an important marker in predicting IVIG resistance in Kawasaki disease.

We propose and demonstrate the effectual generation and control of nonparaxial self-accelerating beams by using UV-resin pendant droplets. We show that the geometrical shape of the hanging droplets formed as a result of the interplay between surface tension and gravity offers a natural curvature enabling the generation of nonparaxial self-accelerating beams. By simply adjusting the tilt angle of the surface where the droplets reside, a passing light beam is set to propagate along different curved trajectories, bending into large angles with non-diffracting features superior to a conventional Airy beam. Such self-accelerating beams are directly traced experimentally through the scattered light in yeast-cell suspensions, along with extensive ray tracing and numerical simulations. Furthermore, by modifying the shape of uncured pendant resin droplets in real time, we showcase the dynamical trajectory control of the self-accelerating beams. Our scheme and experimental method may be adopted for the droplet-based shaping of other waves such as microfluidic jets and surface acoustic waves.

In chemistry, women are still underrepresented in the postbaccalaureate stages. However, there has been limited discussion in STEM education that treats chemistry as a singular discipline and explores doctoral students' experiences from a mentoring perspective. This qualitative research study investigated how contextual factors (i.e., social barriers and social support) and personal factors (i.e., being a female student) influence students' motivation and career goals in chemistry based on the Social Cognitive Career Theory, with an emphasis on mentoring experience as one of the contextual factors. Fourteen women doctoral students were interviewed. The findings revealed that women students rarely planned to stay in academia because of the barriers they experienced, such as the overwork norm. Women students faced microaggressions, such as others questioning their ability, a lack of sense of belonging, and unequal involvement in administration work. Mentoring support as a format of social support can mitigate these challenges. However, students' needs were nuanced depending on their developmental stages. The study concludes with nine action items for faculty members to support women students' success in chemistry, providing valuable information for future policy and mentoring training program designs.

Mucous membrane pemphigoid (MMP) and anti-laminin (LM) γ1 pemphigoid, two subtypes of subepidermal autoimmune bullous diseases characterized by autoantibodies against epidermal basement membrane zone proteins, mainly show mucosal and skin lesions, respectively. The known autoantigens of MMP includes BP180, BP230, LM332, integrin α6β4 and type VII collagen, and anti-LMγ1 pemphigoid targets LMγ1. In this study, we present an unique MMP case with oral mucosal lesions, which showed positive IgA signals on basement membrane zone in indirect immunofluorescence using normal human skin and on dermal side in indirect immunofluorescence using salt-split skin, positive IgA autoantibodies against LMγ1 by immunoblotting of epidermal extracts, positive IgA autoantibodies against LMα5 by immunoblotting of LM521 recombinant protein (rLM521) and positive IgG autoantibodies against LMγ1 by immunoblotting of rLM111 and rLM521 at first visit (Day 0). After therapy, further serological analyses of serum samples collected at Day 30 and Day 50 indicated that IgA autoantibodies against LMγ1 were likely to be pathogenic. These results suggest that LMγ1 is another autoantigen of MMP, and our patient might be the first reported case of anti-LMγ1 MMP.

For several decades, warming-induced fires have been widespread in many forest systems. A forest fire could be a potential indicator, since the Great Xing’an Range is susceptible to global climate changes and frequent extreme events. This region has a relatively integrated forest community structure. This paper investigated 35 factors to explore how natural conditions affect fire scale. We analyzed the fire spatiotemporal distribution, by combining the Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform and historical records, and then reconstructed the fire-prone climate conditions. We used an exploratory model to minimize the climate factors and a geographically and temporally weighted regression (GTWR) model to predict regional large-scale lightning fire occurrence. The main results are (1) Lightning fire occurrence increased during the past four decades, and the regional fire season starts from the spring (May to June). (2) The time of occurrence of lightning fires had a strong correlation with the occurrence density. (3) The main natural factors affecting a fire-affected area are air moisture content, topographic slope, maximum surface air temperature, wind direction, and surface atmospheric pressure. The regional climate can be characterized that the prevailing southeastern wind bringing lots of precipitation and strong surface pressure, combined with the regional periodic lightning weather and irregular high temperatures, forming fire-prone weather. The abnormal soil water content in the spring led to vegetation growth and increased fuel storage. The low air water content and long-term water deficit made the local air dry. Lightning strikes are an influential factor in fire frequency, while climatic conditions shape the fire-affected areas. (4) The seven days of pre-fire data are more accurate for studying lightning fire occurrence. The GTWR model showed the best fitness among the four models. Fire-prone areas showed a trend of increasing from south to north. In the future, lightning fires will likely occur in this region’s north and east. Our work would promote the local forest fire policy-making process.

α-Chaconine is the most abundant glycoalkaloid in potato and toxic to the animal digestive system, but the mechanisms underlying the toxicity are unclear. In this study, mouse small intestinal epithelial cells were incubated with α-chaconine at 0, 0.4, and 0.8 μg/mL for 24, 48, and 72 h to examine apoptosis, mechanical barrier function, and antioxidant ability of the cells using a cell metabolic activity assay, flow cytometry, Western blot, immunofluorescence, and fluorescence quantitative PCR. The results showed that α-chaconine significantly decreased cell proliferation rate, increased apoptosis rate, decreased transepithelial electrical resistance (TEER) value, and increased alkaline phosphatase (AKP) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activities, and there were interactions between α-chaconine concentration and incubation time. α-Chaconine significantly reduced the relative and mRNA expressions of genes coding tight junction proteins zonula occludens-1 (ZO-1) and occludin, increased malondialdehyde (MDA) content, decreased total glutathione (T-GSH) content, reduced the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), and γ-glutamylcysteine synthetase (γ-GCS) and the mRNA expressions of SOD, CAT, GSH-Px, and γ-GCS genes. In conclusion, α-chaconine disrupts the cell cycle, destroys the mechanical barrier and permeability of mucosal epithelium, inhibits cell proliferation, and accelerates cell apoptosis.

Abstract Objectives The aim of the current study was to evaluate influence of serum triglyceride levels on the course of acute pancreatitis (AP). Methods Rats models of hypertriglyceridemic were used in animal experiments. Following induction of acute pancreatitis, amylase, and pancreas histological scores were all compared. In addition, in a clinical study, clinical data were collected from 1681 AP patients admitted from 2003 to 2016 who were divided into 4 groups based on their serum triglyceride (TG) levels. The clinical features among these 4 groups were compared, and a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was also performed on TG values to estimate their relationship with severity. Results In animal experiments, the hypertriglyceridemic pancreatitis (HTGP) group had markedly higher serum amylase, and histological scores relative to the other animal groups. In the clinical study, we identified significant differences in gender, age, body mass index (BMI), cost, and incidence of partial complications among the 4 TG-based groups. Importantly, the TG levels on day 3–4 after admission could be used to accurately predict disease severity. Conclusions Hypertriglyceridemia (HTG) can aggravate pancreatic injury, and hypertriglyceridemia patients are more likely to suffer from severe pancreatic injury with a higher possibility of complications. In addition, triglyceride levels are correlated with the severity of AP positively.

Abstract Background Athletic performances are complex traits with heritability of ~66%. Dynamic balance is one of the most important athletic performances, and there has been little studies for it in sports genomics. The candidate PPARD gene was reported to be able to affect muscle development for balance predisposition and influence the athletic performance including skiing triumph in the Caucasian population. This study aims to investigate whether the PPARD gene is a susceptibility gene for dynamic balance performance in Han Chinese children. Results A total 2244 children were recruited and their balance beam performances were measured. Five polymorphisms in the PPARD gene were genotyped through the MassARRAY Sequenom platform. Rs2016520 exerted significant association with dynamic balance performance (minor allele C, P = 0.015, Pcorrected < 0.05) and was affirmed in a meta-analysis by combining previously reported Caucasian cohorts (OR = 1.57, 95% CI = [1.30, 1.91], P < 10 -5) . Another polymorphism, rs2267668, was also significantly associated with dynamic balance performance (minor allele G, P = 0.015, Pcorrected < 0.05). In the dichotomous study, 321 cases (61% boys and 39% girls) and 370 controls (49% boys and 51% girls) in our samples were selected as representatives, and the thresholds were the mean velocity (0.737 m/s) ± standard deviation (0.264 m/s), in which rs2016520-C and rs2267668-G still remained significant (CI =1.41 [1.11~1.79], P = 0.004, Pcorrected < 0.016; CI =1.45 [1.14~1.86], P = 0.002, Pcorrected < 0.016). In different genders, consistent OR direction was observed for each variant. Conclusions Our results suggested that the PPARD gene is associated with dynamic balance performance of human being, and further studies to reveal its etiology is strongly suggested.

In boreal regions, the frequency of forest fires is increasing. In this study, thermogravimetric analysis was used to analyze the pyrolysis kinetics of dead surface combustibles in different forest types within the Daxing'an Mountains, China. The results show that the combustible material load of forest types, the Larix forest (LG) is relatively high. Base on the E of kinetic parameters, the LG, and Quercus forest (QM) forest types had relatively high combustibility values and comprehensive combustibility values for 1-, 10-, and 100-h time lags. According to the obtained P values, the pyrolysis of dead surface fuels with 1-, 10-, and 100-h time lags is relatively difficult in the Larix / Betula mixed forest (L-B) and QM forest types. Therefore, mixed forests of the LG, L-B, and QM tree species can be established as fire-resistant forests to establish a fire barrier, reduce the combustibility of forest stands, and reduce the possibility of forest fires.

In order to study the mechanical properties of submarine weathered granite under marine geological conditions, uniaxial compression tests were carried out on the original medium weathered granite of the seafloor of an offshore area in Pingtan, Fujian Province by using triaxial experimental apparatus to analyze the fracture characteristics, stress–strain characteristics, and compressive strength indexes. Based on the theory of discontinuous medium, the uniaxial compression and uniaxial tensile tests of rocks were simulated, and the microscopic mechanical parameters of discrete elements of granite samples were determined based on the indoor macroscopic mechanical tests: effective modulus Et, compressive elastic modulus Ec, macro Poisson’s ratio μ, and uniaxial compressive strength σc. The results show that the parallel bond model has good simulation results for the uniaxial compression test, but the tensile strength and tensile–compression ratio were quite different from the experimental values. When the confining pressure is large, the calibrated parameter adaptability by uniaxial compression is poor. The reason for certain errors is a large resistance of the parallel bond model to particle rotation and the influence of normal stress on shear strength is not considered. The cementation model can be modified by adding coefficients based on laboratory test results.

Construction waste management is crucial to the sustainable development of the construction industry and environmental management, and China has the highest construction waste emission in the world, making it typical and representative globally. In this paper, we conducted an empirical study on the relationship between the change in construction waste and economic growth at the provincial level in China from 2009 to 2018 based on a decoupling model and spatial analysis methods, and we reached the findings as follows. (1) Most provinces in China are still in the stage of continuous growth of construction waste emissions, and about 30% have reached the peak (inverted U-shaped), prominently characterized by inter-provincial spatial heterogeneity and agglomeration. (2) The decoupling types between inter-provincial construction waste and construction economic growth in China are dominated by weak decoupling, expansive coupling, and recessive decoupling, and they are changing in general with positive signs but in a more diversified and complex trend. (3) Based on the analysis results, this paper classifies China into three types of policy zones, namely transformation, adjustment, and stabilization, and proposes differentiated and targeted recommendations to provide an important decision basis for the design of construction waste management policies in China and similar countries and to help achieve a “zero waste society” in early global development.

Abstract Background Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) have been suggested as potential prognostic indicators for multiple tumors, including gastric cancer; however, pre- and post-operative CTC changes in resectable gastric cancer and possible correlations to post-operative recurrence have not been evaluated. Methods Subjects (n = 93) with resectable gastric cancer were prospectively reviewed from July 2013 to December 2014 at Peking University Cancer Hospital. The proportion of CTCs were evaluated before (n = 93) and after (n = 63) radical operation using a standardized CellSearch system. Results CTCs ≥ 1 were measured in the pre-operative blood of 31 (33.3%) patients and in the post-operative blood of 21 patients (33.3%). Patients with relatively poor clinicopathological features had more pre- and post-operative CTCs. The 3-year disease-free survival (DFS) rate for patients with CTCs ≥ 5/7.5 ml was significantly lower than for patients with CTCs
