Abstract Background Currently, the differentiation between benign and malignant cystic pulmonary nodules poses a significant challenge for clinicians. The objective of this retrospective study was to construct a predictive model for determining the likelihood of malignancy in patients with cystic pulmonary nodules. Methods The current study involved 129 patients diagnosed with cystic pulmonary nodules between January 2017 and June 2023 at the Neijiang First People’s Hospital. The study gathered the clinical data, preoperative imaging features of chest CT, and postoperative histopathological results for both cohorts. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were employed to identify independent risk factors, from which a prediction model and nomogram were developed. In addition, The model's performance was assessed through receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis, calibration curve analysis, and decision curve analysis (DCA). Results A cohort of 129 patients presenting with cystic pulmonary nodules, consisting of 92 malignant and 37 benign lesions, was examined. Logistic data analysis identified a cystic airspace with a mural nodule, spiculation, mural morphology, and the number of cystic cavities as significant independent predictors for discriminating between benign and malignant cystic lung nodules. The nomogram prediction model demonstrated a high level of predictive accuracy, as evidenced by an area under the ROC curve (AUC) of 0.874 (95% CI: 0.804–0.944). Furthermore, the calibration curve of the model displayed satisfactory calibration. DCA proved that the prediction model was useful for clinical application. Conclusion In summary, the risk prediction model for benign and malignant cystic pulmonary nodules has the potential to assist clinicians in the diagnosis of such nodules and enhance clinical decision-making processes.

With the rise in the intelligence levels of automated vehicles, increasing numbers of modules of automated driving systems are being combined to achieve better performance and adaptability by reducing information loss. In this study, an integrated decision and motion planning system is designed for multi-object highways. A two-layer structure is presented to decouple the influence of the traffic environment and the dynamic control of ego vehicles using the cognitive safety area, the size of which is determined by naturalistic driving behavior. The artificial potential field method is used to comprehensively describe the influence of all external objects on the cognitive safety area, the lateral motion dynamics of which are determined by the attention mechanism of the human driver during lane changes. Then, the interaction between the designed cognitive safety area and the ego vehicle can be simplified into a spring-damping system, and the desired dynamic states of the ego vehicle can be obtained analytically for better computational efficiency. The effectiveness of this on improving traffic efficiency, driving comfort, safety, and real-time performance was validated using several comparative tests utilizing complicated scenarios with multiple vehicles.

This article investigates the applications of the q-Carlson–Shaffer operator on subclasses of q-uniformly starlike functions, introducing the class STq(m,c,d,β). The study establishes a necessary condition for membership in this class and examines its behavior within conic domains. The article delves into properties such as coefficient bounds, the Fekete–Szegö inequality, and criteria defined via the Hadamard product, providing both necessary and sufficient conditions for these properties.

Abstract Background Azygos vein aneurysms (AVAs) are extremely rare. The majority of patients have no obvious clinical symptoms, so they are found by physical examination or by chance. There is limited clinical treatment experience that can be referred to, and there are no clear guidelines or research evidence standardizing the surgical and interventional therapy. Here, we report a patient with idiopathic AVA whose three-dimensional reconstruction of the tumor was completed before surgery. On the basis of three-dimensional reconstruction, single-port thoracoscopic resection of the AVA was successfully completed and reported for the first time. The previously reported cases are summarized to provide guidance for the diagnosis and treatment of patients with AVAs. Case presentation A 56-year-old man was transferred to our hospital due to “dysphagia”. The diagnosis of AVA was made after enhanced computed tomography, gastroscopy, fiberoptic bronchoscopy, and three-dimensional reconstruction. Congenital weakness or degenerative changes causes the vein walls to be extremely thin that the AVA had the risk of ruptur. Furthermore, the patient had symptoms of dysphagia, he received single-port thoracoscopic surgery. After the operation, his dysphagia disappeared. The postoperative pathology confirmed hemangioma. The patient was discharged 3 days after surgery without any complications. Conclusions AVAs are rare. Preoperative three-dimensional reconstruction can greatly help surgeons clarify the disease diagnosis, formulate the surgical plan, avoid damage to the surrounding vital organs, and reduce intraoperative bleeding. Thoracoscopic surgery to remove AVAs is difficult and has a high risk of bleeding, while more minimally invasive single-port thoracoscopic surgery is also safe and effective for the treatment of AVAs.

In recent years, using the idea of analytic and bi-univalent functions, many ideas have been developed by different well-known authors, but the using Gegenbauer polynomials along with certain bi-univalent functions is very rare in the literature. We are essentially motivated by this recent research going on, here in our present investigation, we make use of certain q-derivative operator and Gegenbauer polynomials and define a new subclass of analytic and bi-univalent functions. We then obtain certain coefficient bounds, the Fekete–Szegö inequalities and upper bounds for the second-order Hankel determinant for the defined functions class.

The study of expansions of certain mock theta functions in special functions theory has a long and quite significant history. Motivated by recent correlations between q-series and mock theta functions, we establish a new q-series transformation formula and derive the double-sum expansions for mock theta functions. As an application, we state new double-sum representations for certain mock theta functions.

Motion planning by considering it as an optimal problem is an effective and widely applicable method. Its comprehensive performance greatly depends on the vehicle dynamics model, which is highly coupled and nonlinear, especially under the dynamical scenarios and causes much more consumption of computation resources for the numerical optimization. To increase the real time performance of the motion planner designed by nonlinear model predictive control (NMPC), a unified and simplified vehicle dynamics model (SDM) is presented to make a balance between the accuracy and complexity for dynamical driving scenarios. Based on the statistical analysis results of naturalistic driving conditions, a unified nonlinear vehicle dynamics model is set up, which considers the tyre cornering characteristic and is also applicable to conditions with large turning angle. After the validation of this coupled dynamics model (CDM) by comparisons with other widely used models under a variety of conditions, the coupling effect is analyzed according to the transfer functions, which are obtained by linearizing CDM at equilibrium points. Furthermore, SDM is derived by ignoring the weak part of the coupling effect. The accuracy of SDM is validated by several comparative studies with other models and it is further applied to design a motion planner by NMPC to validate its contribution on the performance improvement under dynamical driving conditions.

Vehicles are highly coupled and multi-degree nonlinear systems. The establishment of an appropriate vehicle dynamical model is the basis of motion planning for autonomous vehicles. With the development of autonomous vehicles from L2 to L3 and beyond, the automatic driving system is required to make decisions and plans in a wide range of speeds and on bends with large curvature. In order to make precise and high-quality control maneuvers, it is important to account for the effects of dynamical coupling in these working conditions. In this paper, a new single-coupled dynamical model (SDM) is proposed to deal with the various dynamical coupling effects by identifying and simplifying the complicated one. An autonomous vehicle motion planning problem is then formulated using the nonlinear model predictive control theory (NMPC) with the SDM constraint (NMPC-SDM). We validated the NMPC-SDM with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) experiments to evaluate improvements to control performance by comparing with the planners original design, using the kinematic and single-track models. The comparative results show the superiority of the proposed motion planning algorithm in improving the maneuverability and tracking performance.

To overcome the challenges arising from the weakness of wireless communication, this paper presents a distributed H∞ control method for multi-AVs connected by an uncertain and switching topology in a platoon. After compensating for the powertrain nonlinearities, we model the node dynamics as a linear uncertain system. By applying the eigenvalue decomposition and linear transformation, the platoon system is decomposed to multiple low order subsystems depending on the eigenvalues of the topological matrix. The sufficient condition ensuring the robust performance of the platoon is presented by using the invariant of signal amplitude of the linear transformation. Then a numerical method is provided to solve the state feedback controller by using the LMI scheme. Only the bounds of the topological eigenvalues are necessary for this new synthesis method and the designed controller can govern the platoon composed of disturbed nodes and interacting by uncertain even switching topologies in a satisfactory way. The effectiveness of this distributed H∞ control strategy is validated by comparative bench tests between nominal and disturbed conditions.

Abstract Background In recent years, Raoultella ornithinolytica (R. ornithinolytica) have attracted clinical attention as a new type of pathogen. A wide range of infections with these germs is reported, and commonly found in urinary tract infections, respiratory infections, and bacteremia. Case presentation We report the case of an elderly woman with liver abscess, choledocholithiasis and cholangitis, who developed gastric fistula and abdominal abscess after underwent choledocholithotomy, and R. ornithinolytica were isolated from the abdominal drainage fluid. The patient was treated with meropenem and levofloxacin and had a good outcome. Conclusions To the best of our knowledge, case of isolating R. ornithinolytica from a patient with non-viscerally abdominal abscess was extremely rare. We share a case of a woman with non-viscerally abdominal abscess secondary to postoperative gastric fistula, R. ornithinolytica was isolated from the patient’s pus, and the pathogenic bacteria may originate from the gastrointestinal tract. Based on this case, We should be cautious that invasive treatment may greatly increase the probability of infection with this pathogenic bacterium.

Eucalyptus, valued for its rapid growth and economic potential, has been widely introduced in China to address timber demands while conserving natural forests. Precisely estimating the spatiotemporal expansion of short-rotation eucalyptus plantations is crucial for evaluating their ecological and social value and formulating effective sustainable forestry policies. Medium-resolution satellite images, such as Landsat data, offer a cost-effective tool for large-scale forest mapping compared with the traditional forest inventories. This study used pixel-level time-series analysis to identify annual eucalyptus plantation distributions across Guangxi, China, from 2004 to 2019, based on the standard temporal vegetation index curves derived from the characteristics of short-rotation and fast-growing eucalyptus. Furthermore, an image segmentation method, coupled with an empirical relationship linking patch-level landscape indices to optimal thresholds, was employed to eliminate isolated pixels and reduce omission errors arising from the above time-series analysis. The established thresholds increased the accurate identification of eucalyptus patches within segments. Our proposed eucalyptus detection algorithm achieved an overall accuracy exceeding 80%, demonstrating its effectiveness. The analysis revealed eucalyptus plantations increased from 0.42 × 106 ha in 2004 to 2.47 × 106 ha in 2019, exhibiting a pronounced northward expansion. Initially concentrated in upland areas, plantations subsequently expanded into flatter terrains, raising concerns about potential agricultural conflicts. Annual eucalyptus plantation maps offer critical information for sustainable forest management and policymaking. This study highlights the potential of medium-resolution satellite data and time-series analysis for robust and cost-effective monitoring of annual short-rotation timber forest expansion dynamics over large scales.

In this paper, a second-order mock theta function D5(q) given by Hikami [11] is studied. By using basic hypergeometric transformation formulae, we attain some new representations of Hikami's mock theta function D5(q). ABSTRACTInvasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA) is an infectious disease with a high mortality rate due to diagnostic difficulties associated with the lack of a typical clinical presentation and the inadequacy of the available laboratory testing methods. Nanopore targeted sequencing (NTS) is an alternative method of broad-based pathogen discovery, associated with rapid turnaround and high accuracy. This case report presents a patient with IPA and acute promyelocytic leukemia, diagnosed using the NTS method, which detected Aspergillus flavus in the patient's blood and pleural fluid. The patient was treated effectively with antifungal therapy. Early diagnosis of IPA improved long-term patient prognosis and quality of life.

Bletilla striata (Thunb.) Reichb.f., is a traditional Chinese medicine, and the Bletilla striata polysaccharide (BSP) is one of the principal components extracted from Bletilla striata with various biological activities. Previous studies have shown that many natural polysaccharides have significant immunomodulatory activities. However, as a plant polysaccharide, the research of BSP on immunomodulatory activities is limited. In this study, we aim to investigate the immunomodulatory effect of BSP in vivo and further explore its underlying mechanism in vitro. In vivo, a cyclophosphamide (CTX)-induced immunosuppression mice mode was established by intraperitoneal injection of CTX, and the immune-enhancing effect of BSP (25, 50 and 100 mg/kg) on immunosuppressed mice were evaluated. The result indicated that BSP could significantly improve the immune organ index and the content of immunoglobulin, TNF-α and IL-4 in serum. It was also found that BSP could clearly ameliorate the spleen damage induced by CTX. Meanwhile, the result showed that BSP could not only improve the proliferation of splenocytes, but also activate the lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and acid phosphatase (ACP) in mouse spleen tissue. In vitro, potential mechanism was further revealed in macrophages. The result supported that BSP could activate macrophages with high phagocytic ability, and induce macrophages to secrete cytokines. Finally, it revealed that activation of NF-κB and MAPK signalling pathway should be the underlying mechanism of the immunoenhancment of BSP.

Three-dimensional stability analysis of soil slopes remains a hot topic in the field of geotechnical engineering. Considering the fluid–solid coupling effect, this study performs a number of numerical analyses on the stability of a 3D excavation slope located in the Wuxi Taihu Tunnel, China. Three typical cases of the issued slope are investigated, i.e., the slope at the initial state, with the water-stop curtain, and with both the water-stop curtain and concrete-sprayed layer. The shear strength reduction method was adopted to determine the factor of safety (FOS) of the slope. The distributions of pore pressures and wetting lines, the horizontal and vertical displacements, and the critical slip surface are presented. The results indicate that the water-stop curtain can prevent the groundwater seepage effectively. The water-stop curtain and concrete-sprayed layer are effective in restraining the slope deformation, altering the critical slip surface, and improving the slope safety.

Abnormal proliferation, migration and foaming of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) are involved in atherosclerosis (AS) process. Imperatorin (IMP) is a coumarin compound mainly originated from angelica dahurica in natural plants. In this study, effects of IMP on proliferation, migration and foaming of oxidized low-density lipoprotein (ox-LDL)-induced VSMCs were investigated. The results showed that IMP regulated cell cycle in S ~ G2/M phase and down-regulated the proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), and then exerted anti-proliferation effect. IMP might have a repressive effect on migration in ox-LDL-stimulated VSMCs through inhibiting the metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2). Oil red O staining showed IMP suppressed lipid accumulation in ox-LDL-induced-VSMCs. This was consistent with the determination of Lectin-like oxidation of lectin-like ox-LDL receptor-1 (LOX-1) and total cholesterol (TC). IMP also reduced the expression of p-PI3K, p-Akt and p-mTOR in ox-LDL-treated VSMCs. These results suggested that IMP might play an anti-lesion role in ox-LDL-stimulated-VSMCs by inhibiting the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway.
