The proton-exchange membrane fuel cell is a promising power source for automobile industry because of its zero pollution. However, its stack structure always faces increased contact resistance caused by assembly errors, leading to substantial energy loss during the working period. To enhance its output performance, the influence of assembly errors on contact resistance is studied for proton-exchange membrane fuel cell. The mechanical simulation model of fuel cell assembly process is established to provide contact resistance distribution with different assembly errors. An improved global sensitivity analysis method is proposed to evaluate the influence coefficient of each assembly error term on contact resistance based on a series of randomized simulation data. The case study of a single-layer fuel cell demonstrates the proposed method achieves higher efficiency than traditional sensitivity analysis methods, and finds out key assembly errors in regard to reducing contact resistance.

Transparent electro-optic (EO) oxide ceramics are known for their rapid EO effects. EO ceramics have several advantages over single-crystals, including variable size and shape, controllable chemical composition, superior mechanical properties, and low cost. Synthesis of high-performance transparent EO ceramics requires high purity of raw materials, high density, homogeneous composition, uniform grain size, and relatively wide bandgap. Powder synthesis and sintering are two of the critical steps involved in the fabrication of highly transparent EO ceramics. Using high-activity precursor powders has been effective in fabricating high-density ceramics that demonstrate excellent EO performance. The sintering process plays a crucial role in achieving this result, and currently, there are several sintering methods available for producing high-density ceramics, including hot-pressing, hot isostatic pressing, and spark plasma sintering. This review summarizes the recent progress in materials and processes used to develop transparent EO ceramics, including those based on lead zirconate titanate, lead magnesium niobate-lead titanate, and lead-free potassium sodium niobate. In addition, several novel applications of transparent EO ceramics, including light shutters, spectral filters, optical memory, as well as image storage and displays are reviewed. In the end, the review concludes with a discussion of future trends and perspectives.

Abstract Self‐assembled monolayers (SAMs) employed in inverted perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have achieved groundbreaking progress in device efficiency and stability for both single‐junction and tandem configurations, owing to their distinctive and versatile ability to manipulate chemical and physical interface properties. In this regard, we present a comprehensive review of recent research advancements concerning SAMs in inverted perovskite single‐junction and tandem solar cells, where the prevailing challenges and future development prospects in the applications of SAMs are emphasized. We thoroughly examine the mechanistic roles of diverse SAMs in energy‐level regulation, interface modification, defect passivation, and charge transportation. This is achieved by understanding how interfacial molecular interactions can be finely tuned to mitigate charge recombination losses in inverted PSCs. Through this comprehensive review, we aim to provide valuable insights and references for further investigation and utilization of SAMs in inverted perovskite single‐junction and tandem solar cells.

Noninvasive and sensitive thermometry of a single cell during the normal physiological process is crucial for analyzing fundamental cellular metabolism and applications to cancer treatment. However, current thermometers generally sense the average temperature variation for many cells, thereby failing to obtain real-time and continuous data of an individual cell. In this study, we employed platinum (Pt) electrodes to construct an integrated microfluidic chip as a single-cell thermometer. The single-cell isolation unit in the microchip consisted of a main channel, which was connected to the inlet and outlet of a single-cell capture funnel. A single cell can be trapped in the funnel and the remaining cells can bypass and flow along the main channel to the outlet. The best capture ratio of a single MCF7 cell at a single-cell isolation unit was 90 % under optimal condition. The thermometer in the micro-chip had a temperature resolution of 0.007 °C and showed a good linear relationship in the range of 20–40 °C (R2 = 0.9999). Slight temperature increment of different single tumor cell (MCF7 cell, H1975 cell, and HepG2 cell) cultured on the chip was continuously recorded under normal physiological condition. In addition, the temperature variation of single MCF7 cell in-situ after exposure to a stimulus (4 % paraformaldehyde treatment) was also monitored, showing an amplitude of temperature fluctuations gradually decreased over time. Taken together, this integrated microchip is a practical tool for detecting the change in the temperature of a single cell in real-time, thereby offering valuable information for the drug screening, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer.

Smartphones are usually packed with a large number of features. An increasing number of researchers are paying attention to the technological capabilities of smartphones, which is a new topic and research interest. This paper proposes a method using smartphones and digital photogrammetry to measure the discontinuity orientation of a rock mass. Smartphone photos satisfying a certain overlap rate provide an efficient method for generating point cloud models of rock outcrops based on image matching. Using the target and the generated point cloud model allows for determining actual geographic coordinates and the measurement of discontinuity orientations. The method proposed has been applied to two different study areas. The discontinuity orientations measured by the proposed method are compared with those measured by the manual method in two cases. The results show a good agreement, verifying the reliability and accuracy of the proposed method. The main contribution of this paper is to use knowledge of coordinate rotation to determine the actual geographic location of the model through a square target. The equipment used in this study is simple, and photogrammetric field surveys are easy to carry out.

In this study, an embedded cement-based piezoelectric sensor based on a spherical piezoelectric ceramic shell was designed, fabricated, and characterized. Compared with the conventional piezoelectric acoustic emission sensor (PAES), which is based on sheet piezoelectric ceramics and can receive signals only in a specific direction, the novel embedded cement-based spherical piezoelectric sensor (CSPS) has the potential for omnidirectional signal reception. The frequency response range of the embedded CSPS, tested using the pencil-lead break test, is 70–600 kHz, which can meet the requirements of acoustic emission testing of concrete structures. Thus, the four-point bending test of the concrete beam was monitored using the acoustic emission technique. The concrete beams with two failure modes, bending and compression–shear failure, were created. During the four-point bending test, the CSPS embedded into the concrete beams and the commercial PAES externally placed on the surface of the concrete structure were used for acoustic emission monitoring. Data such as acoustic emission amplitude, b-value, and fractal dimension were measured using the embedded CSPS and analyzed and compared using the external commercial PAES. The results showed that the data measured using the embedded CSPS are highly consistent with those measured using the external PAES. Notably, at the late stage of the experiment, the number of low amplitude signals measured using the embedded CSPS was several times higher than that measured using the external PAES, which demonstrates that the sensitivity of the embedded CSPS is better than that of the external commercial PAES. Furthermore, the curve of the b-value and fractal dimension of the two kinds of sensors (the embedded CSPS and the external PAES) showed evident phased characteristics in different loading stages. In the bending failure test of the concrete beam, the trend of the curve of the fractal dimension can be divided into three stages, which correspond to the three stages of bending failure. Moreover, when the b-value keeps decreasing and becomes stable at a low level, it indicates that the concrete beam has entered the final yield failure stage. Furthermore, the transformation of each failure stage is accompanied by a sudden increase in energy. In the compression–shear failure test of the concrete beam, the steep drop in the b-value and fractal dimension indicates the development and connection of large fractures. Therefore, these indices dynamically reflect the evolution of structural damage and can be used as an early warning index for the final failure of the concrete beam. Compared with the acoustic emission location results calculated by the commercial PAES, the number of acoustic emission location results calculated using the embedded CSPS was greatly increased, which effectively improved the accuracy and sensitivity of damage location analysis.

Abstract Free chlorine is one of the key water quality parameters in tap water. However, a free chlorine sensor with the characteristics of batch processing, durability, antibiofouling/antiorganic passivation and in situ monitoring of free chlorine in tap water continues to be a challenging issue. In this paper, a novel silicon-based electrochemical sensor for free chlorine that can self-clean and be mass produced via microfabrication technique/MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical System) is proposed. A liquid-conjugated Ag/AgCl reference electrode is fabricated, and electrochemically stable BDD/Pt is employed as the working/counter electrode to verify the effectiveness of the as-fabricated sensor for free chlorine detection. The sensor demonstrates an acceptable limit of detection (0.056 mg/L) and desirable linearity (R 2 = 0.998). Particularly, at a potential of +2.5 V, hydroxyl radicals are generated on the BBD electrode by electrolyzing water, which then remove the organic matter attached to the surface of the sensor though an electrochemical digestion process. The performance of the fouled sensor recovers from 50.2 to 94.1% compared with the initial state after self-cleaning for 30 min. Carbon fibre woven composite has been increasingly employed in engineering applications undergoing complex loading conditions. For effective use of composite material in dynamic applications, it is essential to fully understand the mechanical behaviour of composite at different strain rates. In the present study, both in-plane tensile and compressive experiments loaded at 0 degree axial direction and 45 degree off-axial direction of a TC33 carbon fibre woven composite were investigated over the strain rate range from 0.001 to 1000 s-1. High strain rate tests were carried out using Split Hopkinson Pressure and Tensile Bar apparatus respectively. The results indicated that the in-plane mechanical properties and failure patterns were strain rate sensitive under both tensile and compressive loadings. The mechanical properties, failure patterns and strain rate effect also showed highly direction dependent and tension/compression asymmetric characteristic within the considered strain rate range. For higher strain rate sensitivity under compression than that under tension, the asymmetry of mechanical properties was less obvious with the increase of strain rate. Finally, two phenomenal models were proposed to quantitatively fit the relationship between strength property and strain rate. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract Pervious concrete has been widely used in parking lots and other lightweight streets. Performances of pervious concrete are strongly dependent on its pore structure characteristics. This paper investigates the relationship among porosity, permeability, compressive strength, durability and the pore structure characteristics of pervious concrete. The influences of basalt fiber and fine aggregate on the pervious concrete are also discussed. Pervious concrete specimens with different pore structures were prepared by combining basalt aggregate with size of 5–10 mm and 10–15 mm at different proportion. The pore structure characteristics such as area porosity, pore sizes, and pore distribution of pervious concrete were obtained and analyzed using image analysis method. Experimental results showed that the pore structure characteristics of pervious concrete have effects on its mechanical and durability behaviors. Homogeneous pore distribution and large distances between pores increase the compressive strength and improve freeze–thaw durability of pervious concrete. Due to the difference in the internal pore structure of pervious concretes, specimens with similar volumetric porosities had different permeability coefficients. A series of numerical models were regenerated through a MATLAB code using pore structural parameters derived from the image analysis method, then the numerical models were fed to ANSYS for meshing and further simulation. The comparison of the simulation and experimental results showed close accuracy, which verified the applied simulation analysis method based on image analysis technology.

Abstract The use of magnetic nanoparticle (MNP)-labeled immunochromatography test strips (ICTSs) is very important for point-of-care testing (POCT). However, common diagnostic methods cannot accurately analyze the weak magnetic signal from ICTSs, limiting the applications of POCT. In this study, an ultrasensitive multiplex biosensor was designed to overcome the limitations of capturing and normalization of the weak magnetic signal from MNPs on ICTSs. A machine learning model for sandwich assays was constructed and used to classify weakly positive and negative samples, which significantly enhanced the specificity and sensitivity. The potential clinical application was evaluated by detecting 50 human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) samples and 59 myocardial infarction serum samples. The quantitative range for HCG was 1–1000 mIU mL−1 and the ideal detection limit was 0.014 mIU mL−1, which was well below the clinical threshold. Quantitative detection results of multiplex cardiac markers showed good linear correlations with standard values. The proposed multiplex assay can be readily adapted for identifying other biomolecules and also be used in other applications such as environmental monitoring, food analysis, and national security.

Abstract Lead‐free chalcogenide SnTe has been demonstrated to be an efficient medium temperature thermoelectric (TE) material. However, high intrinsic Sn vacancies as well as high thermal conductivity devalue its performance. Here, β‐Zn4Sb3 is incorporated into the SnTe matrix to regulate the thermoelectric performance of SnTe. Sequential in situ reactions take place between the β‐Zn4Sb3 additive and SnTe matrix, and an interesting “core–shell” microstructure (Sb@ZnTe) is obtained; the composition of SnTe matrix is also tuned and thus Sn vacancies are compensated effectively. Benefitting from the synergistic effect of the in situ reactions, an ultralow κlat ≈0.48 W m−1 K−1 at 873 K is obtained and the carrier concentrations and electrical properties are also improved successfully. Finally, a maximum ZT ≈1.32, which increases by ≈220% over the pristine SnTe, is achieved in the SnTe‐1.5% β‐Zn4Sb3 sample at 873 K. This work provides a new strategy to regulate the TE performance of SnTe and also offers a new insight to other related thermoelectric materials.

Background: Recent data have suggested a relationship between acute arthritic pain and acid sensing ion channel 3 (ASIC3) on primary afferent fibers innervating joints. The purpose of this study was to clarify the role of ASIC3 in a rat model of osteoarthritis (OA) which is considered a degenerative rather than an inflammatory disease. Methods: We induced OA via intra-articular mono-iodoacetate (MIA) injection, and evaluated pain-related behaviors including weight bearing measured with an incapacitance tester and paw withdrawal threshold in a von Frey hair test, histology of affected knee joint, and immunohistochemistry of knee joint afferents. We also assessed the effect of ASIC3 selective peptide blocker (APETx2) on pain behavior, disease progression, and ASIC3 expression in knee joint afferents. Results: OA rats showed not only weight-bearing pain but also mechanical hyperalgesia outside the knee joint (secondary hyperalgesia). ASIC3 expression in knee joint afferents was significantly upregulated approximately twofold at Day 14. Continuous intra-articular injections of APETx2 inhibited weight distribution asymmetry and secondary hyperalgesia by attenuating ASIC3 upregulation in knee joint afferents. Histology of ipsilateral knee joint showed APETx2 worked chondroprotectively if administered in the early, but not late phase. Conclusions: Local ASIC3 immunoreactive nerve is strongly associated with weight-bearing pain and secondary hyperalgesia in MIA-induced OA model. APETx2 inhibited ASIC3 upregulation in knee joint afferents regardless of the time-point of administration. Furthermore, early administration of APETx2 prevented cartilage damage. An original 3D numerical approach for fluid flow in fractured porous media is proposed. The whole research domain is discretized by the Delaunay tetrahedron based on the concept of node saturation. Tetrahedral blocks are impermeable, and fluid only flows through the interconnected interfaces between blocks. Fractures and the porous matrix are replaced by the triangular interface network, which is the so-called equivalent matrix-fracture network (EMFN). In this way, the three-dimensional seepage problem becomes a two-dimensional problem. The finite element method is used to solve the steady-state flow problem. The big finding is that the ratio of the macroconductivity of the whole interface network to the local conductivity of an interface is linearly related to the cubic root of the number of nodes used for mesh generation. A formula is presented to describe this relationship. With this formula, we can make sure that the EMFN produces the same macroscopic hydraulic conductivity as the intact rock. The approach is applied in a series of numerical tests to demonstrate its efficiency. Effects of the hydraulic aperture of fracture and connectivity of the fracture network on the effective hydraulic conductivity of fractured rock masses are systematically investigated.

Most rock masses contain natural fractures. In many engineering applications, a detailed understanding of the characteristics of fluid flow through a fractured rock mass is critically important for design, performance analysis, and uncertainty/risk assessment. In this context, rock fractures and fracture networks play a decisive role in conducting fluid through the rock mass as the permeability of fractures is in general orders of magnitudes greater than that of intact rock matrices, particularly in hard rock settings. This paper reviews the modelling methods developed over the past four decades for the generation of representative fracture networks in rock masses. It then reviews some of the authors’ recent developments in numerical modelling and experimental studies of linear and non-linear fluid flow through fractures and fracture networks, including challenging issues such as fracture wall roughness, aperture variations, flow tortuosity, fracture intersection geometry, fracture connectivity, and inertia effects at high Reynolds numbers. Finally, it provides a brief review of two applications of methods developed by the authors: the Habanero coupled hydro-thermal heat extraction model for fractured reservoirs and the Kapunda in-situ recovery of copper minerals from fractures, which is based on a coupled hydro-chemical model.

An enhanced geothermal system (EGS) proposed on the basis of hot dry rock mining technology has become a focus of geothermal research. A novel procedure for coupled simulation of thermal and fluid flow models (NPCTF) is derived to model heat flow and thermal energy absorption characteristics in rough-walled rock fractures. The perturbation method is used to calculate the pressure and flow rate in connected wedge-shaped cells at pore-scale, and an approximate analytical solution of temperature distribution in wedge-shaped cells is obtained, which assumes an identical temperature between the fluid and fracture wall. The proposed method is verified in Barton and Choubey (1985) fracture profiles. The maximum deviation of temperature distribution between the proposed method and heat flow simulation is 13.2% and flow transmissivity is 1.2%, which indicates the results from the proposed method are in close agreement with those obtained from simulations. By applying the proposed NPCTF to real rock fractures obtained by a 3D stereotopometric scanning system, its performance was tested against heat flow simulations from a COMSOL code. The mean discrepancy between them is 1.51% for all cases of fracture profiles, meaning that the new model can be applicable for fractures with different fracture roughness. Performance analysis shows small fracture aperture increases the deviation of NPCTF, but this decreases for a large aperture fracture. The accuracy of the NPCTF is not sensitive to the size of the mesh.

Polycrystalline Mn1-xCuxTe (x = 0, 0.025, 0.05, 0.075) thermoelectric materials were prepared by a combined method of melt-quenching and hot press. The effect of Cu doping on the electrical resistivity, band gap, the Seebeck coefficient and thermal conductivity was investigated. The power factors of the Cu-doped samples increase greatly due to the decrease of electrical resistivity and the higher Seebeck coefficient in high temperatures. In addition, the thermal conductivities of the Cu-doped samples also reduce due to the extra phonon scattering from the point defects introduced by Cu doping. As a result, the thermoelectric performance of MnTe is greatly enhanced, and a maximum ZT value of ∼0.55 in the Mn0.925Cu0.075Te sample at 773 K is achieved, which is 35% greater than that of the pristine MnTe sample.

Soil erosion (SE) provides slide mass sources for landslide formation, and reflects long-term rainfall erosion destruction of landslides. Therefore, it is possible to obtain more reliable landslide susceptibility prediction results by introducing SE as a geology and hydrology-related predisposing factor. The Ningdu County of China is taken as a research area. Firstly, 446 landslides are obtained through government disaster survey reports. Secondly, the SE amount in Ningdu County is calculated and nine other conventional predisposing factors are obtained under both 30 m and 60 m grid resolutions to determine the effects of SE on landslide susceptibility prediction. Thirdly, four types of machine-learning predictors with 30 m and 60 m grid resolutions—C5.0 decision tree (C5.0 DT), logistic regression (LR), multilayer perceptron (MLP) and support vector machine (SVM)—are applied to construct the landslide susceptibility prediction models considering the SE factor as SE-C5.0 DT, SE-LR, SE-MLP and SE-SVM models; C5.0 DT, LR, MLP and SVM models with no SE are also used for comparisons. Finally, the area under receiver operating feature curve is used to verify the prediction accuracy of these models, and the relative importance of all the 10 predisposing factors is ranked. The results indicate that: (1) SE factor plays the most important role in landslide susceptibility prediction among all 10 predisposing factors under both 30 m and 60 m resolutions; (2) the SE-based models have more accurate landslide susceptibility prediction than the single models with no SE factor; (3) all the models with 30 m resolutions have higher landslide susceptibility prediction accuracy than those with 60 m resolutions; and (4) the C5.0 DT and SVM models show higher landslide susceptibility prediction performance than the MLP and LR models.

Fractures are ubiquitous in geological formations and have a substantial influence on water seepage flow in unsaturated fractured rocks. While the matrix permeability is small enough to be ignored during the partially saturated flow process, water seepage in heterogeneous fracture systems may occur in a non-volume-average manner as distinguished from a macroscale continuum model. This paper presents a systematic numerical method which aims to provide a better understanding of the effect of fracture distribution on the water seepage behavior in such media. Based on the partial differential equation (PDE) formulations with a Signorini-type complementary condition on the variably saturated water flow in heterogeneous fracture networks, the equivalent parabolic variational inequality (PVI) formulations are proposed and the related numerical algorithm in the context of the finite element scheme is established. With the application to the continuum porous media, the results of the numerical simulation for one-dimensional infiltration fracture are compared to the analytical solutions and good agreements are obtained. From the application to intricate fracture systems, it is found that water seepage flow can move rapidly along preferential pathways in a nonuniform fashion and the variably saturated seepage behavior is intimately related to the geometrical characteristics orientation of fractures.

This study explores the effects of normal loading and shearing on hydraulic properties in roughness-walled rock fractures. The geometries of five fractures were measured by the 3D scanning technology. The flow simulation was performed for rough rock fractures with large displacements during normal loading and shearing by finite volume method (FVM). The results demonstrate that the deformation of fracture with increasing normal stress and shear causes nonuniform changes in void space geometry and further influences fracture permeability. Associated with normal displacement are an increase in contact area and a decrease in mechanical aperture. The transmissivity is decreasing by 3 orders of magnitude response to applied normal displacement values of 0.0 mm to 1.8 mm. In contrast, an increase in mechanical aperture and contact ratio that occurs with increasing shear displacement values of 0.0 mm to 4.0 mm is associated with decreasing distinctly transmissivity by 1.5–2 orders of magnitude. Based on the numerical results, an empirical equation is proposed to evaluate the effects of contact area and roughness of fracture on the hydraulic aperture. The good agreement between numerical results and the predicted results by the new model indicates that the proposed model is capable of estimating the hydraulic aperture of rock fractures through parametric analyses, compared with other published models from available literature. In addition, the new model succeeds in predicting the transmissivity in Develi and Babadagli (2014) water flow experiments.

Droplet-based microfluidics has recently emerged as a potential platform for studies of single-cell, directed evolution, and genetic sequencing. In droplet-based microfluidics, adding reagents into drops is one of the most important functions. In this paper, we develop a new self-triggered picoinjector to add controlled volumes of reagent into droplets at kilohertz rates. In the picoinjector, the reagent injecting is triggered by the coming droplet itself, without needing a droplet detection module. Meanwhile, the dosing volume can be precisely controlled. These features make the system more practical and reliable. We expect the new picoinjector will find important applications of droplet-based microfluidics in automated biological assay, directed evolution, enzyme assay, and so on.

Progresses in thermoelectric (TE) materials will contribute to solving the world’s demands for energy and global climate protection. It also calls for higher ZT to achieve ideal commercial conversion efficiency. As an effective way, nanostructuring can reduce the thermal conductivity by the selective scattering of phonons or enhance Seebeck coefficient via modification of the density of the states, resulting in good ZT value. Meanwhile, TE properties of nanostructured materials should depend on the size and morphology of the microstructure features. This review emphasizes the developments in the TE bulk materials at the nanoscale in the past several years and summarizes the understanding in this active field.

Zirconia-based limiting current oxygen sensor gains considerable attention, due to its high-performance in improving the combustion efficiency of fossil fuels and reducing the emission of exhaust gases. Nevertheless, the Pt electrode is frequently used in the oxygen sensor, therefore, it restrains the broader application due to the high cost. Quite recently, La0.75Sr0.25Cr0.5Mn0.5O3 (LSCM) has been reported to be highly active to catalyze oxygen reduction. Herein, with the intention of replacing the frequently used Pt, we studied the practicability of adapting the LSCM to zirconia-based limiting current oxygen sensor. Through comparing the electrocatalytic activity of LSCM and Pt, it is confirmed that LSCM gave analogous oxygen reactivity with that of the Pt. Then, limiting the current oxygen sensors comprised of LSCM or Pt are fabricated and their sensing behavior to oxygen in the range of 2–25% is evaluated. Conclusively, quick response/recovery rate (within 7s), linear relationship, and high selectivity (against 5% CO2 and H2O) in sensing oxygen are observed for the sensors, regardless of the sensing materials (LSCM or Pt) that are used in the sensor. Particularly, identical sensing characteristics are observed for the sensors consisting of LSCM or Pt, indicating the practicability of replacing the Pt electrode by adapting the LSCM electrode to future zirconia-based oxygen sensors.

Since individualized therapy becomes more and more important in the treatment of rectal cancer, an accurate and effective approach should be established in the clinical settings to help physicians to make their decisions. Circulating tumor cells (CTCs), originated from either primary or metastatic cancer, could provide important information for diagnosis and monitoring of cancer. However, the implication and development of CTCs are limited due to the extreme rarity of these tumor cells. In this study we fabricated a simple and high-performance microfluidic device, which exploited numerous filtered microchannels in it to enrich the large-sized target tumor cells from whole blood. A very high CTC capture efficiency (average recovery rate: 94%) was obtained in this device at the optimum flow rate of 0.5 mL/h and channel height of 5 µm. Additionally, we used this device for detecting CTCs in 60 patients with rectal cancer. The CTC counts of rectal cancer patients were significantly higher than those in healthy subjects. Furthermore, the CTC counts detected by this device were significantly higher than those by EpCAM bead-based method for rectal cancer patients with various stage. Especially, for localized rectal cancer patients, the positive rates of samples with more than 3 CTCs per 5 mL blood by use of microdevice vs. EpCAM-based ones were 100% vs. 47%, respectively. Thus, this device provides a new and effective tool for accurate identification and measurement of CTCs in patients with rectal cancer, and has broad potential in clinical practice.
