Abstract Excessive alarmins S100A8/A9 escalate the inflammation and even exacerbate immune-driven thrombosis and multi-organ damage. However, the regulatory mechanisms of S100A8/A9 expression in infectious diseases remain unclear. In this study, high-dimensional transcriptomic data analyses revealed a high proportion of CD14+FCN1hi macrophages within the pulmonary niche post-severe SARS-CoV-2 infection. By constructing the S100-coexpression gene list and supervised module scoring, we found that CD14+FCN1hi macrophages presented the highest scores of alarmin S100, and possibly served as the trigger and amplifier of inflammation in severe COVID-19. These CD14+FCN1hi cells lacked the positive regulatory activity of transcription factor PPARγ, and lost their differentiation ability towards mature macrophages. Ex vivo experiments further validated that the epithelial cells with high ORF-3a expression promoted the expression and secretion of S100A8/A9 through ANXA1/SAA1-FPR1 signaling. S100A8/A9 heterodimers, as well as the co-localization of S100A8/A9 with microtubules, were both diminished by the FPR1 inhibitor. Phospho-kinase protein array indicated that STAT3 promoted transcription, and PLC-γ and ERK1/2 pathways were involved in the hetero-dimerization and unconventional secretion of S100A8/A9. Our study highlights the pivotal role of FPR1 signaling in the excessive production of S100A8/A9 and provides a promising target for the prevention and control of severe COVID-19 and post-acute COVID-19 sequelae.

Abstract Background Atrial Fibrillation (AF) is known to be associated with a negative emotional state. Patient-reported outcomes (PROs) are important tools for evaluating the endpoints of AF management. This study aims to examine the correlation between personality types and PROs in patients with AF. Methods All included subjects were newly diagnosed with AF fewer than one month, and their personality types were assessed using the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ). Quality of life (QoL) was measured using the Atrial Fibrillation Effect on Quality of Life (AFEQT) questionnaire. Anxiety and depression were assessed using the General Anxiety Scale (GAD-7) and the 9-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), respectively. We constructed stepwise linear regression analyses for factors related to the QoL and emotional state in patients with AF. Results A total of 531 AF patients completed the survey and were categorized into four groups based on their personality types. Of these patients (mean age: 67.12 ± 10.93 years, 50.28% male), 357 (67.23%) had paroxysmal AF, and 16.95% (n = 90) had a sanguine personality. Abstract The gut microbiota has been demonstrated to play a significant role in the pathogenesis of Parkinson’s disease (PD). However, conflicting findings regarding specific microbial species have been reported, possibly due to confounding factors within human populations. Herein, our current study investigated the interaction between the gut microbiota and host in a non-human primate (NHP) PD model induced by 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP) using a multi-omic approach and a self-controlled design. Our transcriptomic sequencing of peripheral blood leukocytes (PBL) identified key genes involved in pro-inflammatory cytokine dysregulation, mitochondrial function regulation, neuroprotection activation, and neurogenesis associated with PD, such as IL1B, ATP1A3, and SLC5A3. The metabolomic profiles in serum and feces consistently exhibited significant alterations, particularly those closely associated with inflammation, mitochondrial dysfunctions and neurodegeneration in PD, such as TUDCA, ethylmalonic acid, and L-homophenylalanine. Furthermore, fecal metagenome analysis revealed gut dysbiosis associated with PD, characterized by a significant decrease in alpha diversity and altered commensals, particularly species such as Streptococcus, Butyrivibrio, and Clostridium. Additionally, significant correlations were observed between PD-associated microbes and metabolites, such as sphingomyelin and phospholipids. Importantly, PDPC significantly reduced in both PD monkey feces and serum, exhibiting strong correlation with PD-associated genes and microbes, such as SLC5A3 and Butyrivibrio species. Moreover, such multi-omic differential biomarkers were linked to the clinical rating scales of PD monkeys. Our findings provided novel insights into understanding the potential role of key metabolites in the host-microbiota interaction involved in PD pathogenesis.

Geomagnetic storms are rapid disturbances of the Earth’s magnetosphere. They are related to many geophysical phenomena and have large influences on human activities. Observing and studying geomagnetic storms is thus of great significance to both scientific research and geomagnetic hazards prevention. The Macau Science Satellite-1 (MSS-1) project includes two high-precision Chinese geomagnetic satellites successfully launched on May 21, 2023. The main purpose of MSS-1 is to accurately measure the Earth’s magnetic field. Here, we analyze early MSS-1 geomagnetic field measurements and report observations of two recent geomagnetic storms that occurred on March 24, 2024 and May 11, 2024. We also calculate the related geoelectric fields as an initial step towards a quantitative assessment of geomagnetic hazards.

Abstract Background Lupus nephritis (LN) is a severe complication of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) with poor treatment outcomes. The role and underlying mechanisms of ferroptosis in LN remain largely unknown. We aimed to explore ferroptosis-related molecular subtypes and assess their prognostic value in LN patients. Methods Molecular subtypes were classified on the basis of differentially expressed ferroptosis-related genes (FRGs) via the Consensus ClusterPlus package. The enriched functions and pathways, immune infiltrating levels, immune scores, and immune checkpoints were compared between the subgroups. A scoring algorithm based on the subtype-specific feature genes identified by artificial neural network machine learning, referred to as the NeuraLN, was established, and its immunological features, clinical value, and predictive value were evaluated in patients with LN. Finally, immunohistochemical analysis was performed to validate the expression and role of feature genes in glomerular tissues from LN patients and controls. Results A total of 10 differentially expressed FRGs were identified, most of which showed significant correlation. Based on the 10 FRGs, LN patients were classified into two ferroptosis subtypes, which exhibited significant differences in immune cell abundances, immune scores, and immune checkpoint expression. A NeuraLN-related protective model was established based on nine subtype-specific genes, and it exhibited a robustly predictive value in LN. The nomogram and calibration curves demonstrated the clinical benefits of the protective model. The high-NeuraLN group was closely associated with immune activation. Clinical specimens demonstrated the alterations of ALB, BHMT, GAMT, GSTA1, and HAO2 were in accordance with bioinformatics analysis results, GSTA1 and BHMT were negatively correlated with the severity of LN. Conclusion The classification of ferroptosis subtypes and the establishment of a protective model may form a foundation for the personalized treatment of LN patients.

Abstract The rubber tree, Hevea brasiliensis (Willd. ex Adr. de Juss.) Muell. Arg., is the sole plant worldwide utilized for the commercial production of natural rubber. Following years of breeding, there exists a wide array of germplasm differentiation in rubber trees. The exploration of diversity and population structure within rubber tree germplasm resources, alongside the establishment of core germplasm resources, is instrumental in elucidating the genetic background and facilitating the effective utilization and management of these resources. By employing SNP molecular marker technology, 195 rubber tree resources were amplified, their genetic diversity analyzed, and a fingerprint map was subsequently constructed. Through this process, the cold-resistant core germplasm of rubber trees was identified. The results revealed that the PIC, He, and pi values ranged from 0.0905 to 0.3750, 0.095 to 0.5000, and 0.0953 to 0.5013, respectively. Both group structure analysis and cluster analysis delineated the accessions into two groups, signifying a simple group structure. A core germplasm bank was established with a sampling ratio of 10%, comprising 21 accessions divided into two populations. Population G1 consists of 20 accessions, while population G2 comprises 1 accession. The research findings have led to the creation of a molecular database that is anticipated to contribute to the management and subsequent breeding applications of rubber tree accessions.

The aerosol size distribution is a crucial metric for evaluating aerosol optical characteristics and determines the direct and indirect radiative forcings of aerosols. Traditional methods for inversion of aerosol size distribution often suffer from ambiguities and limitations. To address these shortcomings, this paper introduces a method for inferring aerosol volume size distribution utilizing an improved Lévy flight and chaotic sparrow search algorithm (ILCSSA). The algorithm incorporates Circle chaotic mapping onto the basic Sparrow Search Algorithm (SSA) to obtain a high-quality initial population and employs a Lévy flight strategy to enhance population diversity. Additionally, the process of updating the population’s positions is optimized to improve algorithm accuracy. To validate the feasibility of the proposed method, the measured aerosol optical depth (AOD) data obtained from a Precision Solar Radiometer (PSR) sun photometer in Shouxian are utilized and a series of comparisons were conducted among the Sparrow Search Algorithm, Standard Particle Swarm Algorithm, Improved Particle Swarm Algorithm, and Spider Wasp Optimization Algorithm. The results demonstrate a significant performance advantage for the ILCSSA, evidenced by an average reduction of 50% in Sum of Squared Errors (SSE) and 36% in Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE) when compared to the other four algorithms. Additionally, the AOD obtained by ILCSSA had a correlation coefficient of 0.9748 with the original AOD data. Furthermore, we analyzed the aerosol volume size distribution in Shouxian under conditions of good air quality, moderate pollution, and mild pollution. The proposed method holds significant reference value in the field of aerosol volume spectrum inversion.

Paraburkholderia phytofirmans PsJN is a plant symbiotic bacterium that can colonize a broad spectrum of plant hosts and frequently shows beneficial effects on plant growth. Exopolysaccharide (EPS) is known to be important in plant-bacteria interactions. Previously, we reported that EPS is required for PsJN to survive from drought stress and colonize in pea (Pisum sativum) under drought condition. However, whether EPS is necessary for PsJN to promote plant growth remains unknown. In this work, a comparative study was conducted between the wild-type PsJN and its ∆bceQ mutant that lacks EPS to investigate the role of EPS in PsJN to confer drought-stress tolerance on pea plant. Our results showed that wild type PsJN, but not the ∆bceQ mutant, promoted pea seed germination and seedlings growth under drought stress. Pea plants inoculated with the wild type PsJN had a higher level of drought tolerance, as shown by a better vegetative growth and enhanced nodule formation, than plants inoculated with the ∆bceQ mutant. Moreover, EPS plays a role in the plant colonization under drought stress, because the ∆bceQ mutant was unable to colonize pea seeds and roots as effectively as the wild type PsJN. Further, expression of the EPS biosynthesis genes in the bceOVN operon of the wild type PsJN was induced by the presence of glucose. Overall, this study demonstrated that PsJN can promote pea plant growth under drought conditions and EPS is required for PsJN to confer beneficial effects to host plant.

The non-selective cytotoxicity of toxins limits the clinical relevance of the toxins. In recent years, toxins have been widely used as warheads for antibody‒drug conjugates (ADCs) due to their efficient killing activity against various cancer cells. Although ADCs confer certain targeting properties to the toxins, low drug loading capacity, possible immunogenicity, and other drawbacks also limit the potential application of ADCs. Recently, non-ADC delivery strategies for toxins have been extensively investigated. To further understand the application of toxins in anti-tumor, this paper provided an overview of prodrugs, nanodrug delivery systems, and biomimetic drug delivery systems. In addition, toxins and their combination strategies with other therapies were discussed. Finally, the prospect and challenge of toxins in cancer treatment were also summarized.

Abstract Understanding the behaviors of tropical cyclone (TC) intensity under the CO2 removal scenario is important for future climate adaptation and policy making. Based on the idealized CO2 ramp‐up (from 284.7 to 1,138.8 ppm) and symmetric ramp‐down experiments, our results suggest an asymmetric and irreversible response of TC potential intensity to CO2 reduction. Potential intensity shows an additional enhancement at the same CO2 level during the CO2 ramp‐down relative to the ramp‐up periods (though with regional differences), and does not completely return to the initial value even when CO2 recovers on multi‐decadal to centennial timescale. The enhanced potential intensity is dominated by the increased thermodynamic disequilibrium, which is mainly attributed to the weakened surface winds arising from the El Niño‐like warming pattern and inter‐hemispheric ocean temperature contrast. Our results highlight the potential risks of stronger storms on the socioeconomic development under the negative carbon emissions pathways.

Although the growing literature on coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) conspiracy theories has highlighted the role of digital media in fomenting beliefs, few studies have examined the influence of the fast-rising far-right media platforms. This study examines and compares the role of conservative media and far-right websites in propagating COVID-19 conspiracy theories and explores an underlying sociopsychological mechanism of political identity. The results of an online survey ( N = 702) in the United States indicated that people exposed to conservative media and far-right websites were more likely to endorse COVID-19 conspiracy theories, but the impact of conservative media exposure was more prominent. Additionally, the positive relations between conservative media/far-right websites exposure and conspiracy beliefs were stronger among liberal-leaning individuals than conservative-leaning individuals. Counter-attitudinal exposure is often regarded as a crucial element of political deliberation and a solution to opinion polarization. Our findings cautioned, however, that counter-attitudinal exposure would also help propagate conspiracy theories.

BackgroundAging is one of the most important public health issues. Previous studies on the factors affecting aging focused on genetics and lifestyle, but the association between polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and aging is still unclear.MethodsThis study utilized data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2003–2010. A total of 8,100 participants was used to construct the biological age predictors by using recent advanced algorithms Klemera–Doubal method (KDM) and Mahalanobis distance. Two biological aging indexes, recorded as KDM-BA acceleration and PhenoAge acceleration, were used to investigate the relationship between single PAHs and biological age using a multiple linear regression analysis, and a weighted quantile sum (WQS) model was constructed to explore the mixed effects of PAHs on biological age. Finally, we constructed the restricted cubic spline (RCS) model to assess the non-linear relationship between PAHs and biological age.ResultsExposure to PAHs was associated with PhenoAge acceleration. Each unit increase in the log10-transformed level of 1-naphthol, 2-naphthol, and 2-fluorene was associated with a 0.173 (95% CI: 0.085, 0.261), 0.310 (95% CI: 0.182, 0.438), and 0.454 (95% CI: 0.309, 0.598) -year increase in PhenoAge acceleration, respectively (all corrected P < 0.05). The urinary PAH mixture was relevant to KDM-BA acceleration (β = 0.13, 95% CI: 0, 0.26, P = 0.048) and PhenoAge acceleration (β = 0.59, 95% CI: 0.47, 0.70, P < 0.001), and 2-naphthol had the highest weight in the weighted quantile sum (WQS) regression. The RCS analyses showed a non-linear association between 2-naphthol and 2-fluorene with KDM-BA acceleration (all P < 0.05) in addition to a non-linear association between 1-naphthol, 2-naphthol, 3-fluorene, 2-fluorene, and 1-pyrene with PhenoAge acceleration (all P < 0.05).ConclusionExposure to mixed PAHs is associated with increased aging, with 2-naphthol being a key component of PAHs associated with aging. This study has identified risk factors in terms of PAH components for aging.

More attention has been paid to environmental regulation of greenhouse gas emissions in the energy industry under the transformation of industrial structure. This paper takes microdata of Chinese energy enterprises from 1998 to 2012 as a sample to build a duty-sharing model, analyzes the effect of environmental regulations on the industrial chain, and explains the “double growth” phenomenon that occurred in China, which is nothing short of miraculous in terms of the environment and economy. In the industrial chain, the environmental obligations and responsibilities will be shared between upstream and downstream enterprises due to trade linkages. This paper finds that environmental responsibilities will move forward through the industrial chain when environmental regulations are strengthened. Downstream companies will loosen “relative” control constraints, thereby expanding output but increasing demand for upstream products. Different from the existing research, we claim that, since environmental regulation has a differential effect on the industrial chain, it will promote the growth of output in the entire chain, in contrast to the theory of “cost compliance”, which claims that environmental regulation will inevitably lead to the output. Based on this research, this paper puts forward some suggestions and insights on how the government implements environmental regulations.

Abstract Evolution of East Asian monsoonal precipitation across the Last Interglacial (LIG) remains controversial, owing to the discrepancies between various proxies and their low temporal resolution. Through a transient high-resolution global climate simulation covering the interval of 130–120 ka, we illustrate a long-term increasing (decreasing) trend in summer precipitation over south China (northeast Asia) during the LIG (i.e. 130–120 ka). The out-of-phase precipitation evolution across latitudes were coherently regulated by the weakened monsoonal circulation, southward moved western North Pacific high, and southward displaced East Asian westerly jet from the early to late LIG. These atmospheric circulation variations were in turn determined by sea surface temperature anomalies over the Pacific and the propagation of extratropical Rossby waves originating from North Africa. Our results may provide important insights for reconciling discrepancies between precipitation proxies during the LIG and for precipitation behavior in a warmer-than-present world.

Abstract Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a serious, worldwide public health crisis. Surveillance of antimicrobial use forms part of an essential strategy to contain AMR. We aimed to conduct a national point prevalence survey (PPS) on antimicrobial use, and to compare this data with similar international surveillance programs to provide a reference for future AMR strategy development in China. Twenty general hospitals encompassing 10,881 beds and 10,209 inpatients around the country participated the survey using a standardized protocol, at 8am of someday from October 10th to November 31st, 2019. Of the patients, 37.00% (3777/10209) received antimicrobial agents, 31.30% (1630/5208) had surgical operations, and 76.63% (1249/1630) received prophylactic antibiotic. The prevalence of antimicrobial use in medical, surgical, and intensive care units (ICU) patients was 38.84% (1712/4408), 32.07% (1670/5208), and 66.61% (395/593), respectively. Of prescriptions, 5.79% (356/6151) were made in the absence of indication. The intensity of antimicrobial use was 61.25 DDDs/100 patient days, while the intensity of use in internal medicine, surgery, and ICU were 67.79, 45.81, 124.45 DDDs/100 patient days, respectively. Only 11.62% (715/6151) of prescriptions had a reason described in the patient record. Furthermore, 8.44% (210/2487), 14.19% (424/2989), and 12% (81/675) of the prescriptions in internal medicine, surgery, and ICU had a recorded indication, respectively. The review and stop date recorded for antimicrobial therapy was 43.73% (1976/4518). Of the patients, 38.07% (1438/3777) received combination therapy. The classes of antimicrobials prescribed were limited, and the proportion of prescriptions encompassed by the top 20 antimicrobial agents was 75.06% (4617/6151). The prevalence of antimicrobial use in China is close to that of Sweden, the UK, and Canada, but lower than that in India, and higher than that in Switzerland. The data described in this report indicate that the quality of antimicrobial prescriptions requires improvement in China. Further, hospitals should implement professional interventions to improve the rational use of antimicrobials.

Fine particulate matter (PM2.5) exposure is strongly associated with vascular endothelial senescence, a process implicated in cardiovascular diseases. While there is existing knowledge on the impact of Lycium barbarum polysaccharide (LBP) on vascular endothelial damage, the protective mechanism of LBP against PM2.5-induced vascular endothelial senescence remains unclear. In this study, we investigated the impact of PM2.5 exposure on vascular endothelial senescence and explored the intervention effects of LBP in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). We found that PM2.5 exposure dose-dependently reduced cell viability and proliferation in HUVECs while increasing the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), malondialdehyde (MDA), and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). Additionally, PM2.5 exposure inhibited the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD). Notably, PM2.5 exposure induced autophagy impairments and cellular senescence. However, LBP mitigated PM2.5-induced cell damage. Further studies demonstrated that correcting autophagy impairment in HUVECs reduced the expression of the senescence markers P16 and P21 induced by PM2.5. This suggests the regulatory role of autophagy in cellular senescence and the potential of LBP in improving HUVECs senescence. These findings provide novel insights into the mechanisms underlying PM2.5-induced cardiovascular toxicity and highlight the potential of LBP as a therapeutic agent for improving vascular endothelial health.

Abstract Future climate projections suggest a poleward shift of the maximum intensity of tropical cyclones (TCs) over the western North Pacific. However, the global nature of the latitudinal change in TC genesis under global warming remains poorly understood. We show, using large‐ensemble high‐resolution atmospheric model simulations (d4PDF) with four warming scenarios, that the poleward shift is a robust change over the globe, attributable to the weakening of the Hadley circulation. The weakened ascent driven by the upper‐tropospheric warming suppresses the TC genesis within 5°–20° latitudes, whereas the weakened descent enhances the TC genesis in the poleward latitudes. We further estimate the poleward shift of TC genesis to emerge at the 2 K global warming over the Arabian Sea, South Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and at the 4 K warming over the North Pacific. The present results underscore the potential for increasing social and economic risks associated with TCs at higher latitudes.

Nickel, a common environmental hazard, is a risk factor for craniosynostosis. However, the underlying biological mechanism remains unclear. Here, we found that early-life nickel exposure induced craniosynostosis in mice. In vitro, nickel promoted the osteogenic differentiation of human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs), and its osteogenic ability in vivo was confirmed by an ectopic osteogenesis model. Further mRNA sequencing showed that ERK1/2 signaling and FGFR2 were aberrantly activated. FGFR2 was identified as a key regulator of ERK1/2 signaling. By promoter methylation prediction and methylation-specific PCR (MSP) assays, we found that nickel induced hypomethylation in the promoter of FGFR2, which increased its binding affinity to the transcription factor Sp1. During pregnancy and postnatal stages, AZD4547 rescued nickel-induced craniosynostosis by inhibiting FGFR2 and ERK1/2. Compared with normal individuals, nickel levels were increased in the serum of individuals with craniosynostosis. Further logistic and RCS analyses showed that nickel was an independent risk factor for craniosynostosis with a nonlinear correlation. Mediated analysis showed that FGFR2 mediated 30.13% of the association between nickel and craniosynostosis risk. Collectively, we demonstrate that early-life nickel exposure triggers the hypomethylation of FGFR2 and its binding to Sp1, thereby promoting the osteogenic differentiation of hMSCs by ERK1/2 signaling, leading to craniosynostosis.

IntroductionEarlier research has indicated that being exposed to polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) in the workplace can heighten the likelihood of cancer-related deaths. Nevertheless, there is limited information available regarding the connection between PCDD exposure and the risk of cancer mortality in the general population (i.e., individuals not exposed to these substances through their occupation).MethodsThe National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) detected PCDDs in the general population, and the death data were recently updated as of December 31, 2019. We conducted Cox regression analysis and controlled for covariates including age, gender, ethnicity, educational attainment, physical activity, alcohol intake, NHANES survey period, BMI category, cotinine concentration, and household earnings.ResultsAfter accounting for confounding factors, the findings indicated that for each incremental rise of 1 log unit in 1,2,3,4,6,7,8,9-octachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin, there was a 76% rise in the likelihood of death from any cause, with a p value of 0.003. An increase of 1 log unit in the concentration of 1,2,3,4,6,7,8-heptachlorodibenzofuran could potentially lead to a 90% higher risk of cancer mortality, as indicated by a p value of 0.034 and a 95% confidence interval of 0.05–2.43. As the concentrations of 1,2,3,4,6,7,8-heptachlorodibenzofuran increased, the dose–response curve indicated a proportional rise in the risk of cancer mortality, accompanied by a linear p value of 0.044. The sensitivity analysis demonstrated that our findings were resilient.DiscussionIn the general population, an elevated risk of cancer mortality was observed in PCDDs due to the presence of 1,2,3,4,6,7,8-heptachlorodibenzofuran. Mechanistic research is required to further confirm it.

Abstract Astrocytes are intimately linked with brain blood vessels, an essential relationship for neuronal function. However, astroglial factors driving these physical and functional associations during postnatal brain development have yet to be identified. By characterizing structural and transcriptional changes in mouse cortical astrocytes during the first two postnatal weeks, we find that high-mobility group box 1 (Hmgb1), normally upregulated with injury and involved in adult cerebrovascular repair, is highly expressed in astrocytes at birth and then decreases rapidly. Astrocyte-selective ablation of Hmgb1 at birth affects astrocyte morphology and endfoot placement, alters distribution of endfoot proteins connexin43 and aquaporin-4, induces transcriptional changes in astrocytes related to cytoskeleton remodeling, and profoundly disrupts endothelial ultrastructure. While lack of astroglial Hmgb1 does not affect the blood-brain barrier or angiogenesis postnatally, it impairs neurovascular coupling and behavior in adult mice. These findings identify astroglial Hmgb1 as an important player in postnatal gliovascular maturation.

Fungal contamination in rice and mycotoxins present significant challenges to both rice quality and food safety. However, there is a dearth of comprehensive research on the compositional and structural changes within fungal colonies in rice, particularly in typical rice-producing regions, as well as their underlying influencing factors. In this study, a comprehensive analysis of fungal taxa in rice grains was conducted using amplicon sequencing and bioinformatics methods on 99 rice samples collected in three major rice-producing regions in China: Northeast Plain (NP), Yangtze River Basin (YR), and Southeast Coastal Area (SC). A total of 6,019,722 fungal ITS sequences were obtained with an average sequence length of 235 base pairs, and effective ASVs (2014) accounted for approximately 97.58% of the total ASVs (2064). The fungal community diversity in rice grains exhibited significant variations across the three regions, with deterministic processes playing a predominant role in shaping the ecological dynamics of fungal taxa. Among the core microbiota (92 shared ASVs), the first five species (Alternaria, Fusarium, Curvularia, Epicoccum, and Ustilaginoidea) accounting for a proportion greater than 5% had been reported as potential pathogens for plants. Geographical variations in fungal community composition were evident, with a significantly higher number of shared populations observed between YR and CS regions compared to those in the NP region. Nutrient elements and climatic conditions were the internal and external driving factors of rice fungal community composition. Additionally, notable regional variations in fungal functionality were observed. The findings have significant implications for gaining a comprehensive understanding of the distribution patterns of fungal communities in the major rice-producing regions in China. Additionally, it provides valuable insights into controlling key influencing factors to effectively reduce the occurrence of toxin-producing fungi and mitigate the associated risks related to mycotoxin contamination, thereby contributing to improved risk management and assessment.

Abstract Background The osteogenic differentiation capacity of periodontal mesenchymal stem cells (PDLSCs) can be influenced by different levels of static mechanical strain (SMS) in an inflammatory microenvironment. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are involved in various physiological processes. However, the mechanisms by which lncRNAs regulate the osteogenic differentiation of PDLSCs remain unclear. Methods We investigated the responses of PDLSCs obtained from periodontitis patients and healthy people to 8% and 12%SMS. Gene microarray and bioinformatics analyses were implemented and identified lncRNA00638 as a target gene for the osteogenesis of PDLSCs from periodontitis patients under SMS. Competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) network analysis was applied and predicted interactions among lncRNA00638, miRNA-424-5p, and fibroblast growth factor receptor 1 (FGFR1). Gene expression levels were regulated by lentiviral vectors. Cell Counting Kit-8 assays, alkaline phosphatase assays, and Alizarin Red S staining were used to examine the osteogenic potential. RT-qPCR and Western blot were performed to detect the expression levels of related genes and proteins. Results We found that 8% and 12% SMS exerted distinct effects on HPDLSCs and PPDLSCs, with 12% SMS having the most significant effect. By microarray analysis, we detected differentially expressed lncRNAs/mRNAs between 12% SMS strained and static PPDLSCs, among which lncRNA00638 was detected as a positive target gene to promote the osteogenic differentiation of PPDLSCs under SMS loading. Mechanistically, lncRNA00638 may act as a ceRNA for miR-424-5p to compete with FGFR1. In this process, lncRNA00638 and miR-424-5p suppress each other and form a network to regulate FGFR1. Conclusions Our findings demonstrate that the lncRNA00638/miRNA-424-5p/FGFR1 regulatory network is actively involved in the regulation of PDLSC osteogenic differentiation from periodontitis patients under SMS loading, which may provide evidence for optimizing orthodontic treatments in patients with periodontitis.

Abstract Background Osteoporosis is a common systemic bone disease that leads to bone fragility and increases the risk of fracture. However, the pathogenesis of osteoporosis is considered to be highly complex. The exosomes can regulate the communication between cells. The specific mechanism of information transmission between osteoblasts and endothelial cells is worthy of further study. Methods Exosomes were isolated and verified from senescent osteoblasts. The source and properties of exosomes were determined by TEM, particle size analysis and western blot. We established the co-culture model of endothelial cells and senescent osteoblasts. We used qRT-PCR to identify differentially expressed miRNAs. The functional changes of vascular endothelial cells were verified by cell transfection. β-Galactosidase cell senescence assay, Hoechst cell apoptosis assay, Ki67 cell proliferation assay and Transwell migration assay were used to verify cell senescence, apoptosis, proliferation, and migration. The potential target gene of miRNA was detected by bio-informatics pathway and double luciferase report. Results We discovered that senescent osteoblasts could promote the senescence and apoptosis of vascular endothelial cells and inhibit their proliferation and migration. miR-214-3p was upregulated in senescent osteoblast-derived exosomes. miR-214-3p could effectively promote senescence and apoptosis of endothelial cells and inhibit proliferation and migration ability. L1CAM is a miR-214-3p direct target gene determined by bio-informatics and double luciferase report. Conclusions In conclusion, senescent osteoblast-derived exosomes can accelerate endothelial cell senescence through miR-214-3p/L1CAM pathway. Our experiments reveal the role of exosomes in the skeletal microenvironment.

The longitudinal associations of urinary concentrations of diphenyl phosphate (DPHP), bis(2-chloroethyl) phosphate (BCEP), and bis(1,3-dichloro-2-propyl) phosphate (BDCPP) with all-cause, cardiovascular, and cancer mortality in a population of adults aged 40 years and older are still unclear. A total of 3238 participants were included in this cohort study. Urinary BCEP levels were positively associated with all-cause mortality and cardiovascular mortality. Specifically, a logarithmic increase in BCEP concentration was related to a 26 % higher risk of all-cause mortality and a 32 % higher risk of cardiovascular mortality. No significant associations were observed for DPHP and BDCPP in relation to mortality. Doseresponse analysis confirmed the linear associations of BCEP with all-cause and cardiovascular mortality and the nonlinear inverted U-shaped association between DPHP exposure and all-cause mortality. Notably, the economic burden associated with BCEP exposure was estimated, and it was shown that concentrations in the third tertile of BCEP exposure incurred approximately 507 billion dollars of financial burden for all-cause mortality and approximately 717 billion dollars for cardiovascular mortality. These results highlight the importance of addressing exposure to BCEP and its potential health impacts on the population. More research is warranted to explore the underlying mechanisms and develop strategies for reducing exposure to this harmful chemical.

The fast development of the sensors in the wireless sensor networks (WSN) brings a big challenge of low energy consumption requirements, and Peer-to-peer (P2P) communication becomes the important way to break this bottleneck. However, the interference caused by different sensors sharing the spectrum and the power limitations seriously constrains the improvement of WSN. Therefore, in this paper, we proposed a deep reinforcement learning-based energy consumption optimization for P2P communication in WSN. Specifically, P2P sensors (PUs) are considered agents to share the spectrum of authorized sensors (AUs). An authorized sensor has permission to access specific data or systems, while a P2P sensor directly communicates with other sensors without needing a central server. One involves permission, the other is direct communication between sensors. Each agent can control the power and select the resources to avoid interference. Moreover, we use a double deep Q network (DDQN) algorithm to help the agent learn more detailed features of the interference. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can obtain a higher performance than the deep Q network scheme and the traditional algorithm, which can effectively lower the energy consumption for P2P communication in WSN.

ABSTRACT The monothiol glutaredoxin GrxD plays an essential role in the biosynthesis of the antibiotic 2,4-diacetylphloroglucinol (2,4-DAPG) and the biocontrol capacity of the soil bacterium Pseudomonas fluorescens 2P24. However, the detailed mechanism underlying GrxD-mediated activation of the production of 2,4-DAPG remains unclear. Here, we found that GrxD directly interacted with IbaG, a BolA protein family member. The mutation of ibaG significantly decreased 2,4-DAPG production. Furthermore, expressing ibaG restored the production of 2,4-DAPG in the grxD ibaG double mutant to wild-type levels in the presence of dithiothreitol, suggesting that IbaG was required for GrxD-mediated regulation of 2,4-DAPG production. Transcriptome sequencing analyses revealed that IbaG plays a global role in gene regulation by affecting the expression of numerous genes throughout the genome. We also demonstrated that IbaG is an important regulator of several cellular processes, including swarming motility, biofilm formation, siderophore production, and acid resistance. Altogether, our data suggest that IbaG has an essential role in 2,4-DAPG production, motility, and biofilm formation. We also propose a regulatory mechanism linking GrxD to 2,4-DAPG production via IbaG. IMPORTANCE The production of 2,4-diacetylphloroglucinol (2,4-DAPG) is positively influenced by the monothiol glutaredoxin GrxD in Pseudomonas fluorescens 2P24. However, the regulatory mechanism underlying GrxD-mediated regulation of 2,4-DAPG biosynthesis is mostly uncharacterized. Here, we show the function of the BolA-like protein IbaG in 2,4-DAPG biosynthesis. We also demonstrate that GrxD directly interacts with IbaG and influences the redox state of IbaG. Altogether, this work provides new insights into the role of the highly conserved IbaG protein in regulating 2,4-DAPG synthesis, biofilm formation, and other biocontrol traits of P. fluorescens.

Paraburkholderia phytofirmans PsJN is an endophytic bacterium and has been shown to promote the growth and health of many different plants. Exopolysaccharide (EPS) plays important roles in plant-bacteria interaction and tolerance to environmental stresses. However, the function of EPS in PsJN and its interaction with plants remain largely unknown. In this study, a deletion mutation of bceQ gene, encoding a putative flippase for the EPS biosynthesis, was introduced in the genome of PsJN. The ΔbceQ mutant produced a significantly lower level of EPS than the wild type strain in culture media. Compared to the wild type PsJN, the ΔbceQ mutant was more sensitive to desiccation, UV damage, salt (NaCl) and iron (FeCl3) stresses, and bacteriophage infection. More importantly, the mutation of bceQ decreased the endophytic colonization of PsJN in camelina (Camelina sativa) and pea (Camelina sativa) under plant drought stress conditions. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report that EPS production is required for the maximal colonization of an endophytic bacterium in the plant tissues under stress conditions.

Whether there were more extensive glaciations during the Marine Isotope Stage (MIS) 3 relative to MIS 2 across the Tian Shan in Central Asia is intensely debated because of the uncertainty in chronological data and fully understanding the driving mechanisms. To help resolve the ongoing debate, we assess the climate sensitivity of the glaciers and reconstruct the extent of glaciation during MIS 2 and 3 across the Tian Shan, using a glacier-resolving (250 × 250 m) ice sheet model asynchronously coupled with a global climate model. Our results demonstrate that the equilibrium-line altitude (ELA) over the Tian Shan decreases by ∼180 m for every 1 °C cooling under a modern precipitation regime, but precipitation reduction greatly lowers the sensitivity of the glaciers to temperature decrease (e.g., the effect of 2 °C cooling is broadly offset by a 50% decrease in precipitation). Under the modeled colder/drier-than-present climate, the model predicts an ELA depression (∆ELA) of ∼75 m (162 m) over the Tian Shan during MIS 3 interstadials (stadials). The extent of MIS 3 glaciation is much smaller than that during MIS 2 (i.e., ∆ELA = ∼726 m). The more extensive glaciation during MIS 2 is largely attributed to the enhanced summer cooling. Furthermore, through a site-to-site model-data comparison, we find that the closest match between the modeled glacier margin and the locations of the glacial deposits previously argued to be MIS 3 is generally achieved under MIS 2 climatic conditions. These results suggest more extensive glacier advances over the Tian Shan during MIS 2 than MIS 3 on a regional scale, although MIS 3 glaciation may still occur in individual glacier catchments. This pattern suggests general synchronicity with the timing of maximum Northern Hemisphere ice sheets during the last glacial, which should be further tested in a multimodel framework in the future.

A future constellation of at least four geomagnetic satellites (designated Macau Scientific Satellite-1 (MSS-1) and Macau Scientific Satellite-2 (MSS-2)) was recently proposed, to continue high-quality geomagnetic observations in the post-Swarm period, focusing especially on collecting data that will provide a global, three-dimensional survey of the geomagnetic field. In this paper, we present a simulation of two years of orbits (2020.01.01−2022.01.01) of two satellites (tentatively denoted as MSS-2) that are constellated in elliptical (200 × 5,300 km) low-perigee orbits. By comparing error variances of Gauss coefficients, we investigate the sensitivity of lithospheric magnetic field modelling to data collected from various satellite orbits, including a near circular reference orbit of 300 × 350 km, and elliptical orbit of 180 × 5,300 km, 220 × 5,300 km, 200 × 3,000 km and 200 × 1,500 km. We find that in two years the two MSS-2 satellites can collect 35,000 observations at altitude below 250 km, data that will be useful in advancing the quality of lithospheric magnetic field modelling; this number of observations reflects the fact that only 4.5% of the flight time of these satellites will be below 250 km (just 6.4% of their flight time below 300 km). By combining observations from the MSS-2 satellites’ elliptical orbits of 200 × 5,300 km with observations from a circular reference orbit, the variance of the geomagnetic model can be reduced by a factor of 285 at spherical harmonic degree n = 200 and by a factor of 1,300 at n = 250. The planned lower perigee of their orbits allows the new satellites to collect data at unprecedentedly lower altitudes, thus dramatically improving the spatial resolution of satellite-derived lithospheric field models, (up to 80% at n=150). In addition, lowering the apogee increases the time interval during which the satellites fly at near-Earth altitudes, thus improving the model predictions at all spherical harmonic degrees (around 52%−62% at n = 150). The upper limit of the expected improvement to the field model at the orbital apogee is not as good as at the perigee. However, data from the MSS-1 orbit can help fill the gap between data from the MSS-2 orbits and from the circular reference orbit for the low-degree part of the model. The feasibility of even lower-altitude flight requires further discussion with satellite engineers.

Macau Science Satellite-1 (MSS-1) will be launched at the early of 2023 into a near-circular orbit. The mission is designed to measure the Earth’s geomagnetic field with unpreceded accuracy through a new perspective. The most important component installed on the satellite, to ensure high accuracy, is the deployable boom (Optical Bench). A Vector Field Magnetometer (VFM), an Advanced Stellar Compass (ASC), and a Couple Dark State Magnetometers (CDSM) are deployed on the deployable boom. In order to maximize the mission’s scientific output, a numerical simulator on MSS-1’s deployable boom was required to evaluate the adaptability of all devices on the deployable boom and assist the satellite’s data pre-processing. This paper first briefly describes the synthesis of the Earth’s total magnetic field and then describes the method simulating the output of scalar and vector magnetometers. Finally, the calibration method is applied to the synthetic magnetometer data to analyze the possible noise/error of the relevant instruments. Our results show that the simulator can imitate the disturbance of different noise sources or errors in the measuring system, and is especially useful for the satellite's data processing group.

The Euler angle estimation is a calibration method for vector data measured by the magnetometer on a satellite. It is used to find the relative rotation between the coordinate system of the magnetometer and the satellite (usually determined by Star Imagers). Before launch of the low-orbit, low-inclination Macau Science Satellite-1 (known as MSS-1), we simulated the estimation of Euler angles by using the magnetic measurements of the in-orbit Swarm and China Seismo-Electromagnetic Satellite (noted as CSES), with various data combinations. In this study, 11 data sets were designed to analyze the estimation results for the MSS-1 orbit by using a joint estimation method of the geomagnetic field model parameters and Euler angles. For the model results, we found that all the spatial power spectral lines showed behavior consistent with that of the CHAOS-7.8 model at low degrees (corresponding to large-scale magnetic signals). The spectra of models without global data coverage deviated much more (by a maximum of ~104 nT2) from those of the CHAOS-7.8 model at higher degrees. For models with global data coverage and with various data combinations, the spectral lines were distributed similarly. Moreover, the models with accordant power spectral distributions demonstrated different Euler angle estimations. As more vector data at higher latitudes were included, the estimated Euler angles varied monotonically in all three directions. The models with vector data in the same latitude range showed similar Euler angle results, regardless of whether the poleward scalar data were included. The largest value difference was found between the models using vector data within ±40° latitudes and those using vector data within ±60° latitudes, which reached to ~28″. Therefore, we concluded that the inversion of the spherical harmonic Gauss coefficients in our tests was mainly affected by the spatial coverage range of the data, whereas the estimation of Euler angles largely depended on the latitude range where the vector data could be obtained. These results can be used for future in-flight data testing. We expect the estimation of Euler angles to improve as other methods are adopted.

The Earth’s “lithosphere” is its outer shell, made up of the Earth’s crust and outermost mantle. The part of the Earth’s magnetic field that originates in the lithosphere consists of a superposition of magnetic anomalies with a broad spectrum of sizes and intensities, which arise from geological and tectonic features. The lithospheric magnetic field is known from surface observations, and on larger scales from above-surface measurements. The increase in recent decades of satellites dedicated to measuring the Earth’s magnetic field has improved significantly our models of the Earth’s magnetic environment. Based on these increasing observations, a number of comprehensive field models have been constructed, some of which focus solely on the lithosphere, such as the MF model series. We present a map of lithospheric magnetic anomalies at 400 km altitude, based on a vertically integrated magnetization model. This height was chosen because it is the expected orbital altitude of the Macau Science Satellite-1 (MSS-1) mission. The model presented herein indicates that the amplitude of the lithospheric anomalies at 400 km altitude is between −14.8 nT and 18.2 nT. This information is useful because it provides a reference for the lithospheric source of the Earth’s magnetic field that contributes to the magnetic measurements made from satellite instruments. The low inclination orbit of the MSS-1 mission will provide information that is sensitive to lateral variation within the lithosphere; these variations arise from plate tectonic features with longitudinal extent. In conclusion, the new MSS-1 mission will provide valuable information in detecting compositional variations in the lithosphere, and in delineating large-scale geological structures.

Current meta-analysis was conducted to investigate whether better radiographic outcomes and clinical outcomes could be acquired in navigated HTO compared with the conventional procedure.Method We conducted a literature search in the electronic databases, including Medline, Embase, the Cochrane Library, and Web of Science. We identified studies published before August 2020. We also checked the references of the related articles for any relevant studies. We strictly followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematics reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines in this review. This research was performed using Review Manager 5.4 software.Results Fourteen articles were included, involving 1399 knees. Biliary adenofibroma is an extremely rare benign liver tumor, but it may be a precancerous lesion of cholangiocarcinoma. So far, only 29 cases have been reported in the literature. A 30-year-old woman was admitted to our department for upper abdomen mass. The computed tomography scan showed a huge cystic and partly substantial mass between the left lobe of the liver and the descending duodenum, which was considered to be an exophytic tumor derived from the left lobe of the liver. Laparoscopic liver segment IVb resection and cholecystectomy were performed. Microscopic examination showed that the tumor was composed of glandular cavities of varying sizes and fibrous interstitium. The glandular cavity was covered with cubic or columnar epithelium without atypia. Some of the mesenchymal cells are myofibroblast-like and spindle-shaped with red-stained cytoplasm. The mesenchymal cells in some areas proliferate densely with moderate atypia. It was considered to be an atypical biliary adenofibroma with focal necrosis and active cell proliferation which may have malignant transformation potential. There was no recurrence and metastasis at a 6-month follow-up. Biliary adenofibroma is a rare benign tumor derived from the bile duct, but it may progress to malignancy and develop distant metastasis. It is difficult to distinguish it from other liver tumors through imaging examination and the gold standard of diagnosis is histopathological examination. Close clinical follow-up is recommended.

Abstract Glacier growth affects the local climate, and in turn, can either promote or prohibit its own growth. Such feedback has not been considered in modeling the glaciers of the Tibetan Plateau and its surroundings (TPS) during the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM; ∼28–23 ka). We find that the volume/area of the glaciers simulated by a coupled glacier‐climate model is 20%/10% less than that by a standalone glacier model forced with fixed climate fields; glaciers advance toward their western rims and yet decrease in the interior of TPS. Such changes in spatial patterns improve model‐data comparison. Moreover, the expansion of glaciers warms the winter surface temperature of the eastern TPS and decreases precipitation almost everywhere. These effects are primarily due to the added surface elevation, which blocks the water vapor brought by westerlies and south‐westerlies, reducing precipitation and increasing surface temperatures to the east and northeast of the newly grown glaciers.

ObjectiveTo identify the correlation between finger-to-floor distance(FFD) and the spinal function indices and disease activity scores of ankylosing spondylitis (AS) via a multicentre case–control study, and to calculate the optimal cutoff value of FFD using statistical methods.MethodsPatients with AS and healthy individuals were recruited, and the FFD and other spinal mobility values were measured. Davidia involucrata Baill. 1871 (D. involucrata), as a tertiary relict plant unique to China, is a national Class I protected plant with high economic value. Oil extracted from its seeds and peels can be used for both consumption and industrial purposes. It has become a popular income-earning export tree in China because of its graceful posture and beautiful white bracts. Climate change affects the distribution of the species’ potential habitat areas. Thus, studying its natural distribution pattern and future potential habitat distribution changes has great significance for the sustainable resource utilization and biodiversity conservation of D. involucrata. Here, we employed the MaxEnt model and ArcGIS software to predict the current and future (the 2050s and 2070s) potential habitats of D. involucrata via 130 species distribution records and 37 environmental variables. Meanwhile, we used the jackknife method to assess the importance of environmental factors. Our results showed the following: (1) When the RM = 4 and FC = LQHPT, the MaxEnt model exhibited the lowest complexity and overfitting degree while achieving high model prediction accuracy. The area under the curve (AUC) value of the simulated training was 0.958, indicating an excellent forecast. (2) Under the current climate scenario, D. involucrata was mainly concentrated in eastern Sichuan, western Hubei, northern Guizhou, and northwestern Hunan, with an area of 98.02 × 104 km2. (3) The precipitation in the warmest quarter (Bio18, 30%), mean temperature in the driest quarter (Bio9, 24.4%), annual mean radiation (Bio20, 14.6%), and elevation (ele, 12.7%) were the main environmental factors affecting its habitat distribution; the t contribution was 82.1%. (4) Under different future climate scenarios, the potential habitat area of D. involucrata decreased overall. Compared with the current climate scenario, the areas of potential habitats gradually decreased in both the 2050s and 2070s under the ssp126 and ssp585 climate scenarios but decreased in the 2050s and then increased in the 2070s under the ssp370 climate scenario. Therefore, it is of great significance to track and monitor the existing population or community on the basis of the possible changes in its distribution area. Moreover, the artificial breeding of its seedlings should be considered in the future to improve the quality of its germplasm resources. In summary, our findings can provide a scientific understanding of D. involucrata distribution in China and are conducive to conservation and utilization.

With the continuous depletion of fossil fuels, all countries attach importance to clean and sustainable development. The real-time state monitoring of multiphase flows is vital for enhancing hydropower station energy conversion. However, the material mass transfer mechanism and flow field disturbance regulation strategy faces significant challenges. To solve these problems, a computational fluid mechanics and discrete element method (CFD-DEM) coupling modeling and solution method based on a particle porosity model was proposed, and the mass transfer mechanism of gas–liquid–solid mixing flows was obtained under dynamic whirl intensity regulations. Combined with the user-defined function (UDF), the interphase forces and void ratios of fluids and particles were calculated to obtain the material mass transfer laws under dynamic disturbance regulations. The evolution characteristics of the particle flow pattern were tracked during the material mixing process. The results show that the mixed flow field had a high material transport efficiency under intensive whirl regulation, especially for the particle aggregation in the center of the reaction vessel. The maximum peak velocity and energy values of the particle transport process were 3.30 m/s and 0.27 × 10−3 m2·s−2. The higher whirl regulation improved the material transport process and conveying efficiency and enhanced the particle mixing effect in the reaction space. Relevant research results can provide theoretical references for material mass transfer mechanisms, dynamic regulation strategies, and particle flow pattern identifications and can also provide technical support for hydropower energy conversion.

Firstly, we transform the original single labels into discrete label distributions and introduce discrete label distribution learning on top of the existing classification networks to learn the difference in visibility information among different regions of an image. Then, we employ the bilinear attention pooling module to find the farthest visible region of fog in the image, which is incorporated into an attention-based branch. Finally, we conduct a cascaded fusion of the features extracted from the attention-based branch and the base branch. Extensive experimental results on a real highway dataset and a publicly available synthetic road dataset confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method, which has low annotation requirements, good robustness, and broad application space.

Objective: In order to solve the problem of poor integrity with mechanical coring and get the lantern pulp, and explore the factors affecting the performance of longan coring. Methods: Taking Guangdong 'Chuliang' longan fresh fruit as the research object, the key parts of core removal were designed and the core removal test platform was built. The core removal method with the ejector pin and flexible washer positioning was adopted. The ejector diameter, the rubber washer bore diameter and the ejector speed were chosen as the three main factors,and the stoning success rate, the stoning loss rate and the pulp integrity coefficient were chosen as the evaluation indicators. The single factor and orthogonal experiments were designed. Results: The experiments showed that the ranking of influence was rubber washer aperture ＞ ejector diameter ＞ ejector speed. When the ejector diameter was 7 mm, the rubber washer bore diameter was 14 mm and the ejector speed was 400 mm/min, the best stoning effect was got. Conclusion: It is feasible to obtain longan lantern pulp by the ejector rod mechanical enucleation method positioned with flexible washer and appropriate enucleation operation parameters.

Abstract The multi-channel lidar has fast acquisition speed, large data volume, high dimension, and vital real-time storage, which makes it challenging to be met using the traditional lidar data storage methods. This paper presents a novel approach to storing the multi-channel lidar data based on the principle of the tree structure, the adjacency linked list, the binary data storage. In the proposed system, a tree structure is constructed by the four-dimensional structure of the multi-channel lidar data, and a data retrieval method of the multi-channel lidar data file is given. The results show that the proposed tree structure approach can save the storage capacity and improve the retrieval speed, which can meet the needs for efficient storage and retrieval of multi-channel lidar data, and improve the data storage utilization and the practicality of multi-channel lidar system.

Background: Individualized pharmaceutical care, which consists of therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM), pharmacogenetic (PGx) testing and pharmacist-managed clinic (PMC), is one of the most important trends in clinical pharmacy development in the future. While relevant studies in China were primarily single-center or regional. This study aims to explore the current status of individualized pharmaceutical care in China, find out the existing problems and provide references for its further development.Methods: An electronic questionnaire was used and national hospitals’ pharmaceutical administration data from January to December 2019 were collected. The data were sorted into Excel for further statistical analysis. All analyses were descriptive.Results: The proportions of hospitals that performed TDM and PGx testing were 12.83% and 9.48%, respectively. The major responsible departments were the clinical laboratory and pharmacy department. External quality control was carried out in around 70% of hospitals for both TDM and PGx testing. More than half of hospitals provided TDM services for valproate sodium, digoxin, carbamazepine, vancomycin and cyclosporine. And an average of 6.84 drugs were performed TDM in 540 hospitals. Clopidogrel and warfarin were the top two drugs that performed PGx testing. As for the PMC, 10.03% of hospitals opened PMC, of which 60.00% had independent PMC. Approximately 80% of PMC services were free of charge.Conclusion: The development of individualized pharmaceutical care in China is still in the early stage. Different sectors have to coalesce to promote its implementation, including the appropriate education, coverage, reimbursement policies, high-quality evidence, data systems, health system processes and health policies, etc.

Given the low space usage rate of the traditional automated storage/retrieval system and the long aisle, it is easy for a stacker to take a long time to enter/leave the warehouse. Thus, a new type of double-ended compact storage system is proposed. This paper addresses the scheduling problem for the stacker to execute the single and dual commands mixed tasks in the system where the I/O ports are located at both ends of the aisle, and the power conveyor devices on the rack can meet the requirement of multi-depth storage and generate displacement. An improved shuffled frog leaping algorithm (ISFLA) is developed for the scheduling problem. In order to eliminate the disadvantages of local optimum and slow convergence in the standard shuffled frog leaping algorithm, a set of hybrid perturbation update methods are designed based on a role model learning strategy, and the feasibility of the improved algorithm is verified by a numerical simulation. The experimental results show that the solution quality and the convergence ability of the ISFLA are significantly improved, and it can effectively solve the stacker-scheduling problem in the double-ended compact storage system.

A sun photometer is a type of photometer that points at the sun, and it has been playing an increasingly important role in characterizing aerosols across the world. As long as the solar photometer is accurately calibrated, the optical thickness of the aerosol can be obtained from the measured value of this device. When the calibration of a single instrument is not accurate, the inversion quantity varies greatly. The calibration constant of the sun photometer changes during its use process; thus, calibrations are frequently needed in order to ensure the accuracy of the measured value. The calibration constant of the solar photometer is usually determined using the Langley method. Internationally, AERONET has two Langley calibration stations: the Mauna Loa observatory in the United States and the Izaña observatory in Spain. So far, the International Comparison and Calibration System has been established in Beijing, similar to AERONET at GSFC, but the Langley calibration system has not yet been established. Therefore, it is necessary to select a suitable calibration station in China. This paper studies the requirements of the calibration station using the Langley method. We used long-term records of satellite-derived measurements and survey data belonging to the aerosol optical thickness data of SNPP/VIIRS, CERES, MERRA-2, etc., in order to gain a better understanding of whether these stations are suitable for calibration. From the existing astronomical observation stations, meteorological stations, and the Sun–Sky Radiometer Observation Network (SONET) observation stations in China, the qualified stations were selected. According to the statistical data from the Ali observatory, the monthly average of clear sky is 20.21 days, and it is always greater than 15 days. The monthly average of aerosol is not more than 0.15 and is less than 0.3. We believe that the atmosphere above the Ali observatory is stable, and the results show that the Ali observatory has excellent weather conditions. This study can provide a selection of calibration sites for solar photometer calibrations in China that may need to be further characterized and evaluated, and at the same time provide a method to exclude unsuitable calibration sites.

The sky-radiometer/sun-photometer is the most widely used instrument for obtaining aerosol optical depth (AOD) or aerosol optical properties worldwide. Due to the existence of field of view (FOV, 1°), the radiation received by the sky-radiometer includes the forward scattering in addition to direct solar irradiance. This leads to more diffuse light errors of retrieved AODs, especially for shorter wavelength and heavily polluted weather conditions. Using simulation data of three typical aerosol particles (dust, soot, water-soluble), we first verified the accuracy of the Monte Carlo method for calculating the forward scattering effect. Based on the sky-radiometer data collected in Xi’an (2015–2020) where heavy pollution weather is common, the relative errors and correction factors of the AOD were obtained under different conditions, including various short wavelengths (≤400 nm), solar zenith angles (SZAs) and AODs. Our analysis indicates the close dependence of AOD correction factors on wavelength, SZA, AOD and the optical properties of aerosol particles. The mean relative error in Xi’an increases with the decrease of wavelength (~16.1% at 315 nm) and decreases first and then increases with the increase of the SZA. The relative errors caused by forward scattering can exceed 10% when the AOD is greater than 1 and 25% when the AOD is larger than 2 in the ultraviolet (UV) band. The errors with a wavelength greater than 400 nm and an AOD below 1.0 can be within 5%, which can be ignored. The correlation coefficients of AODs before and after a correction from 315 nm to 400 nm are greater than 0.96, which basically increase with the increase of the wavelength. This indicates that the significance of the forward scattering effect in the Xi’an area with heavy pollution cannot be ignored for short wavelengths. Understanding the effects of genotype, environment and their interactions on rice quality is of great importance for rice breeding and cultivation. In this study, six rice varieties with two indica, two japonica and two indica–japonica types of rice were selected and planted at ten locations in Zhejiang Province to investigate the genotype (G) × environment (E) on physicochemical and sensory properties and the differences of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) among the three types of rice. Analysis of variances showed that apparent amylose content (AC), total protein content (PC), alkali spreading value (ASV), RVA profiles, and appearance (ACR), palatability (PCR), and sensory evaluation value (SEV) of cooked rice and texture of cooled cooked rice (TCCR) were mainly affected by genotypic variation, whereas the smell of cooked rice (SCR) was mainly affected by environment (p < 0.05). The G × E effect was significant for most parameters. The weather in the middle and late periods of filling had important effects on the formation of rice quality, especially on setback (SB) and pasting temperature (PT) (p < 0.01). They were negatively correlated with the texture of cooked rice (TCR) and SEV (p < 0.05). Peak viscosity (PV) and breakdown (BD) were positively related to the sensory evaluation parameters (p < 0.01) and could be used to predict cooked rice quality. A total of 59 VOCs were detected, and indica, japonica and indica–japonica had 9, 6 and 19 characteristic compounds, respectively. The principal component analysis showed that the physicochemical and sensory properties and VOCs of indica–japonica rice were more stable than those of indica and japonica rice at ten locations in Zhejiang Province. It is helpful for rice breeders to understand how the environment affects the physicochemical, sensory properties and VOCs of the three rice types, and it is also important for food enterprises to provide rice products with stable quality.

Previous research suggested that the dramatical decrease in CD8+ T cells is a contributing factor in the poor prognosis and disease progression of COVID-19 patients. However, the underlying mechanisms are not fully understood. In this study, we conducted Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) and single-cell T cell receptor sequencing (scTCR-seq) analysis, which revealed a proliferative-exhausted MCM+FASLGlow CD8+ T cell phenotype in severe/critical COVID-19 patients. These CD8+ T cells were characterized by G2/M cell cycle arrest, downregulation of respiratory chain complex genes, and inhibition of mitochondrial biogenesis. CellChat analysis of infected lung epithelial cells and CD8+ T cells found that the galectin signaling pathway played a crucial role in CD8+ T cell reduction and dysfunction. To further elucidate the mechanisms, we established SARS-CoV-2 ORF3a-transfected A549 cells, and co-cultured them with CD8+ T cells for ex vivo experiments. Our results showed that epithelial galectin-3 inhibited the transcription of the mitochondrial respiratory chain complex III/IV genes of CD8+ T cells by suppressing the nuclear translocation of nuclear respiratory factor 1 (NRF1). Further findings showed that the suppression of NRF1 translocation was associated with ERK-related and Akt-related signaling pathways. Importantly, the galectin-3 inhibitor, TD-139, promoted nuclear translocation of NRF1, thus enhancing the expression of the mitochondrial respiratory chain complex III/IV genes and the mitochondrial biogenesis of CD8+ T cells. Our study provided new insights into the immunopathogenesis of COVID-19 and identified potential therapeutic targets for the prevention and treatment of severe/critical COVID-19 patients.
