2. Ancestral Sequence Reconstruction Enhances Thermal Stability of D-Allulose 3-Epimerase

To solve the problem of poor thermal stability of the current D-allulose 3-epimerase (DAEase), the ancestor sequences of DAEase with different catalytic domains were reconstructed by big data mining, reasonable modification and ancestor sequence reconstruction (ASR) strategy under the guidance of phylogenetic information. The expression vectors of the ancestor sequences were constructed, and DAEase A13 with significantly enhanced thermal stability was screened by recombinant expression and molecular docking, and its enzymatic properties were characterized. In addition, the molecular mechanism of thermal stability enhancement of DAEase A13 was revealed based on structural analysis and molecular dynamics. The results showed that the half-life of A13 constructed based on ASR strategy could reach 8.4 h at 70 ℃, indicating that its thermal stability was significantly enhanced compared with that of wild-type (WT) enzyme. The maximum conversion rate of A13 reached 31%, indicating that the catalytic activity of A13 was slightly higher than that of WT enzyme. The structural and molecular dynamics analysis revealed that the increase in hydrogen bonding and hydrophobic interaction in ASR A13 was the main factor responsible for maintaining the stability of the enzyme's molecular structure at high temperatures. The results showed that ASR strategy could modify DAEases to enhance the stability, activity or hybridity, which could provide superior biocatalyst sources for various industrial applications of functional sugars.

Abstract The health-related quality of life (HRQOL) of college students is not promising and needs to be improved through effective interventions. This study aimed to investigate the associations of nutrition literacy (NL) with HRQOL and anxiety among college students, and to identify the role of anxiety in the relationship between NL and HRQOL. The cross-sectional survey was conducted via the “Wenjuanxing” platform from September to November 2023. The Food and Nutrition Literacy Questionnaire (FNLQ), the Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD-7) diagnostic tool and the SF-12 scale were used to assess NL, anxiety, and HRQOL, respectively. Logistic regression models, mediation analysis, additive and multiplicative interaction analyses were used. 2066 college students participated in the analysis. Abstract Background Adequate sleep and rest are essential for patient recovery; however, lack of sleep has become a common problem faced by Chinese patients during hospital stays. Reduced sleep is often associated with a higher risk of disease progression and is strongly associated with increased hospital stay. However, there is no specific tool in China to assess short-term insomnia caused by hospitalization. This study aimed to translate the Hospital-acquired Insomnia Scale (HAIS) into Chinese, test its applicability to Chinese inpatients through reliability and validity indicators, and investigate the potential influencing factors of hospital-acquired insomnia. Methods Psychometric analysis from a sample of 679 hospitalized patients to whom the HAIS questionnaire was applied. The structural validity was assessed by exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and the content validity of the scale was assessed using the content validity index. Cronbach’s alpha coefficient, split-half reliability and test–retest reliability were calculated to evaluate the internal consistency of the scale. Multiple stepwise linear regression analysis was conducted to determine the potential correlates of hospital-acquired insomnia. Results EFA supported a four-factor structure with factor loadings for all dimensions greater than 0.40. CFA showed good indicators of model fit. The content validity index of the scale was 0.94. the Cronbach’s alpha of the scale was 0.915, the split-half reliability coefficient was 0.819, and the retest reliability was 0.844. Gender, age, total hours of sleep during the night, medical insurance, length of hospital stay, perceived stress level, and perceptions about sleep explained 46.2% of the variance in hospital-acquired insomnia. Conclusion The Chinese version of HAIS has good psychometric characteristics and is an effective instrument for evaluating hospital-acquired insomnia. In addition, hospital-acquired insomnia is more common in women, of younger age, less than 5 h of sleep a night, without medical insurance, stressed, and patients with more misconceptions about sleep.

5. Predictors of early and interim culture un-conversion in multidrug-resistant/rifampicin-resistant tuberculosis: a retrospective multi-center cohort study in China

Abstract Background We aimed to evaluate the predictors for early and interim culture conversion within 2 months and 6 months of treatment in multidrug-resistant/rifampicin-resistant tuberculosis (MDR/RR-TB) patients in China. Methods This study included adult MDR/RR-TB patients with a positive baseline sputum culture from 8 institutions located in different cities in China from May 2018 to January 2022. We mainly used logistic regression model to derive possible predictors of early and interim culture conversion. Results A total of 813 patients were enrolled and 28.5% of them received multidrug-resistant treatment regimens containing bedaquiline. Of these, 362 (44.5%) patients experienced culture conversion within 2 months of treatment, and 649 (79.8%) within 6 months. The results of the multivariable logistic regression analysis revealed that acid-fast bacilli smear positive (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] = 1.637, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.197–2.238), cavities (aOR = 1.539, 95% CI = 1.132–2.092), bilateral disease (aOR = 1.638, 95% CI = 1.183–2.269), and viral hepatitis (aOR = 2.585, 95% CI = 1.189–5.622) were identified as risk factors for early culture un-conversion within 2 months of treatment. Additionally, smoking history (aOR = 2.197, 95% CI = 1.475–3.273), previous treatment for tuberculosis (aOR = 1.909, 95% CI = 1.282–2.844), bilateral disease (aOR = 2.201, 95% CI = 1.369–3.537), viral hepatitis (aOR = 2.329, 95% CI = 1.094–4.962) were identified as risk factors for interim culture un-conversion within 6 months of treatment, while patients with regimen containing bedaquiline (aOR = 0.310, 95% CI = 0.191–0.502) was a protective factor. Conclusions A history of smoking, a baseline sputum AFB smear positive, lung cavities, bilateral disease, previous anti-tuberculosis treatment, or a comorbidity of viral hepatitis can be used as the predictors for early and interim culture un-conversion in MDR/RR-TB patients, while bedaquiline was a protective factor .

Abstract Wetlands are the largest and most uncertain biological source of atmospheric methane, with hydrological fluctuations exacerbating this uncertainty. Here we critically explore the complex relationship between hydrological fluctuations and methane emissions in wetlands by integrating observations from 31 FLUXNET wetland sites with a comprehensive literature review. We present the prevalence and patterns of water table fluctuations and their contribution to uncertainty in methane fluxes. We also highlight key pathways through which these fluctuations affect methane production and emission, such as soil redox heterogeneity, changes in substrate availability and alternative electron acceptor pool, the contribution of different methane transport pathways, and the non-linear responses of community structure and activity of methanogens and methanotrophs to hydrological fluctuations. This review aims to improve the accuracy of wetland methane emission reports by carefully assessing biogeochemical kinetics under hydrological fluctuations.

8. Study on the method for determining the position of landslide slip surface based on 'D' type inclinometer curve

In borehole monitoring for deep displacement, the abrupt characteristics of inclinometer curves are the key basis for identifying the sliding surface. Previous studies have summarized several types of inclinometer curve patterns that exhibit significant sliding surface signals, including “B” “D”and “r” types. For “D” type inclinometer curves, the convex point of the curve is typically used as the position of the sliding surface. However, this method is susceptible to the influence of observation points spacing and coordinate observation scales, which can result in an unclear definition of the sliding surface position and uncertain numerical values. To overcome these drawbacks and improve the accuracy of sliding surface identification in inclinometer curves, a generalized model of landslides composed of “sliding body” “sliding interval” and “immovable body” was developed based on the variation characteristics of the “D” type inclinometer curve. A mechanical strut model subjected to external loads was established based on the different flexural rigidity of the three members, and the deformation characteristics of soil at different depths during landslide movement were analyzed in depth. The study found that the sliding surface of “D” curve does not entirely penetrate, leading to continuous soil deformation along the depth direction without abrupt change. The demarcation point of the positive and negative bending moments in the mechanical model is a location where the horizontal displacement of deformation curve is the largest, which can reflect the real deformation characteristics of the landslide and the position of the sliding surface. By converted the accumulated soil displacement into relative displacement, the “D” type inclinometer curve is transformed into “S” type relative displacement-depth curve, and the inflection point of the “S” type curve is close to the position of the sliding surface. By extracting the average relative displacement of soil at different depths during the monitoring period and calculating the depth value of the inflection point in the “S” type segment by using the cubic spline interpolation method, the position of the sliding surface can be determined more accurately, which can greatly improve the reliability and accuracy of deep displacement monitoring and has significant practical value.

9. Repeatability and reproducibility of a new method for centration analysis via optical zone tangent points after corneal refractive surgery

Abstract Purpose To investigate the repeatability and reproducibility of a new method for centration analysis after small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) and femtosecond laser-assisted LASIK (FS-LASIK). Methods This study comprised 29 eyes treated with SMILE and 24 with FS-LASIK. Decentrations were analyzed using tangential and pachymetry difference maps respectively. Both difference maps were generated with a Scheimpflug tomographer (Pentacam) for each eye, using preoperative and 3-month postoperative scans. Repeatability and reproducibility were evaluated by calculating the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), within-subject standard deviation (Sw), and coefficient of repeatability (CR). Results ICC, Sw, and CR showed good to excellent repeatability in locating the coordinates of the optical zone (OZ) center on both maps, with values ranging from 0.84 to 0.96, 0.03 to 0.13, and 0.08 to 0.36 respectively. The repeatability of the total decentration from the preoperative corneal vertex on the tangential curvature difference maps( $$d_{TC}$$ d TC ) and the pachymetry difference maps( $$d_{PC}$$ d PC ) were moderate and good, respectively. The ICC, Sw, and CR of $$d_{TC}$$ d TC were 0.63, 0.09, and 0.25, respectively. The ICC, Sw, and CR of $$d_{PC}$$ d PC were 0.77, 0.10, and 0.28, respectively. The reproducibility of the OZ center measurements was excellent for the tangential difference maps (ICC $$\ge 0.97$$ ≥ 0.97 ) and good for the pachymetry difference maps (ICC $$\ge$$ ≥ 0.86). ICC, Sw, and CR showed excellent reproducibility of $$d_{TC}$$ d TC , with values of 0.95, 0.03, and 0.08, respectively. ICC, Sw, and CR showed good reproducibility of $$d_{PC}$$ d PC , with values of 0.89, 0.06, and 0.17, respectively. Conclusion The centration analysis method used in this study showed good to excellent repeatability and reproducibility in locating the coordinates of the center of the OZ on the tangential and pachymetry difference maps.

Abstract Background Chinese cherry [Cerasus pseudocerasus (Lindl.) G.Don] (syn. Prunus pseudocerasus Lindl.) is an economically important fruiting cherry species with a diverse range of attractive colors, spanning from the lightest yellow to the darkest black purple. However, the MYB transcription factors involved in anthocyanin biosynthesis underlying fruit color variation in Chinese cherry remain unknown. Results In this study, we characterized the R2R3-MYB gene family of Chinese cherry by genome-wide identification and compared it with those of 10 Rosaceae relatives and Arabidopsis thaliana. A total of 1490 R2R3-MYBs were classified into 43 subfamilies, which included 29 subfamilies containing both Rosaceae MYBs and AtMYBs. One subfamily (S45) contained only Rosaceae MYBs, while three subfamilies (S12, S75, and S77) contained only AtMYBs. The variation in gene numbers within identical subfamilies among different species and the absence of certain subfamilies in some species indicated the species-specific expansion within MYB gene family in Chinese cherry and its relatives. Segmental and tandem duplication events primarily contributed to the expansion of Chinese cherry R2R3-CpMYBs. The duplicated gene pairs underwent purifying selection during evolution after duplication events. Phylogenetic relationships and transcript profiling revealed that CpMYB10 and CpMYB4 are involved in the regulation of anthocyanin biosynthesis in Chinese cherry fruits. Expression patterns, transient overexpression and VIGS results confirmed that CpMYB10 promotes anthocyanin accumulation in the fruit skin, while CpMYB4 acts as a repressor, inhibiting anthocyanin biosynthesis of Chinese cherry. Conclusions This study provides a comprehensive and systematic analysis of R2R3-MYB gene family in Chinese cherry and Rosaceae relatives, and identifies two regulators, CpMYB10 and CpMYB4, involved in anthocyanin biosynthesis in Chinese cherry. These results help to develop and utilize the potential functions of anthocyanins in Chinese cherry.

11. Correlation of spinal cord compression angle and increased signal intensity on MRI in patients with ossification of posterior longitudinal ligament

Abstract We retrospectively investigated the correlation between the spinal cord compression angle and increased signal intensity (ISI) in 118 patients with ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL). Patients were analyzed based on the presence and shape of ISI on magnetic resonance imaging. Various indicators, including the spinal cord compression angle, were measured through imaging examinations. Spearman’s correlation and logistic regression were used for analyses. Significant positive correlations were observed between the ISI grade and the spinal cord compression angle, maximum spinal canal occupying rate, cervical range of motion, and segmental range of motion. The spinal cord compression ratio and Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) score were negatively correlated with the ISI grade. Regression analysis revealed that the spinal cord compression angle and JOA scores were independent factors that significantly influenced ISI grade. The odds ratio of ISI was 3.858 (95% confidence interval: 0.974–15.278) when comparing the highest and lowest quartiles of the spinal cord compression angle. Patients with a spinal cord compression angle > 35° had more severe imaging manifestations. Thus, a spinal cord compression angle > 35° could serve as a significant indicator of OPLL severity, and greater attention should be focused on treating patients with larger spinal cord compression angles.

Highlights Site-selective superassembly was used to synthesize a nanorobot with bionic rod-shaped head/hollow tail structure, exhibiting strong photothermal effect, high drug loading capacity, precise and controlled drug release, and excellent motility. Injectable regenerated silk fibroin (RSF) nanofibril hydrogels were developed via simple sonication, offering significant production, structural, and performance advantages. Nanorobot/thrombin (Thr)/RSF nanofibril hydrogels reduced intraoperative bleeding of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) spinal metastasis, provided starvation embolization, and prevented post-surgery recurrence. Nanorobot/Thr/RSF nanofibril hydrogels inhibited blood supply to residual tumors and reduced neovascularization, inhibiting post-surgery HCC spinal metastasis recurrence.

Abstract The treatment of multidrug-resistant tracheobronchial tuberculosis poses challenges, and research investigating the efficacy of bedaquiline or delamanid as treatment for this condition is limited. This retrospective cohort study was conducted from 2017 to 2021. The study extracted data of patients with multidrug-resistant tracheobronchial tuberculosis from medical records and followed up on prognoses. Participants were divided into three groups: the bedaquiline, delamanid, and control group. Clinical outcomes and the risk factors associated with early culture conversion were analyzed. This study included 101 patients, with 32, 25, and 44 patients in the bedaquiline, delamanid, and control groups respectively. The differences in the treatment success rates among the three groups did not show statistical significance. 14. Hypermethylated TAGMe as a universal-cancer-only methylation marker and its application in diagnosis and recurrence monitoring of urothelial carcinoma

Abstract Background Urothelial carcinoma (UC) is the second most common urological malignancy. Despite numerous molecular markers have been evaluated during the past decades, no urothelial markers for diagnosis and recurrence monitoring have shown consistent clinical utility. Methods The methylation level of tissue samples from public database and clinical collected were analyzed. Patients with UC and benign diseases of the urinary system (BUD) were enrolled to establish TAGMe (TAG of Methylation) assessment in a training cohort (n = 567) using restriction enzyme-based bisulfite-free qPCR. The performance of TAGMe assessment was further verified in the validation cohort (n = 198). Urine samples from 57 UC patients undergoing postoperative surveillance were collected monthly for six months after surgery to assess the TAGMe methylation. Results We identified TAGMe as a potentially novel Universal-Cancer-Only Methylation (UCOM) marker was hypermethylated in multi-type cancers and investigated its application in UC. Restriction enzyme-based bisulfite-free qPCR was used for detection, and the results of which were consistent with gold standard pyrosequencing. Importantly, hypermethylated TAGMe showed excellent sensitivity of 88.9% (95% CI: 81.4–94.1%) and specificity of 90.0% (95% CI: 81.9–95.3%) in efficiently distinguishing UC from BUD patients in urine and also performed well in different clinical scenarios of UC. Moreover, the abnormality of TAGMe as an indicator of recurrence might precede clinical recurrence by three months to one year, which provided an invaluable time window for timely and effective intervention to prevent UC upstaging. Conclusion TAGMe assessment based on a novel single target in urine is effective and easy to perform in UC diagnosis and recurrence monitoring, which may reduce the burden of cystoscopy. The efficiency of direct electron flow from electron donors to electron acceptors in redox reactions is significantly influenced by the spatial separation of these components. Geobatteries, a class of redox-active substances naturally present in soil–water systems, act as electron reservoirs, reversibly donating, storing, and accepting electrons. This capability allows the temporal and spatial decoupling of redox half-reactions, providing a flexible electron transfer mechanism. In this review, we systematically examine the critical role of geobatteries in influencing electron transfer and utilization in environmental biogeochemical processes. Typical redox-active centers within geobatteries, such as quinone-like moieties, nitrogen- and sulfur-containing groups, and variable-valent metals, possess the potential to repeatedly charge and discharge. Various characterization techniques, ranging from qualitative methods like elemental analysis, imaging, and spectroscopy, to quantitative techniques such as chemical, spectroscopic, and electrochemical methods, have been developed to evaluate this reversible electron transfer capacity. Additionally, current research on the ecological and environmental significance of geobatteries extends beyond natural soil–water systems (e.g., soil carbon cycle) to engineered systems such as water treatment (e.g., nitrogen removal) and waste management (e.g., anaerobic digestion). Despite these advancements, challenges such as the complexity of environmental systems, difficulties in accurately quantifying electron exchange capacity, and scaling-up issues must be addressed to fully unlock their potential. This review underscores both the promise and challenges associated with geobatteries in responding to environmental issues, such as climate change and pollutant transformation.

ObjectiveTo explore the neuromuscular control mechanism and quantifying the fatigue response during bench press exercise is important references to prescribe an appropriate exercise program. However, current literature struggles to provide a concrete conclusion on the changes of intermuscular EMG-EMG coupling between synergistic and antagonist muscles during the exercise. Thus, the current study was designed to reveal fatigue-related changes of intermuscular EMG-EMG coupling during bench press exercise.MethodsThirty-one healthy male participants performed a bench press exercise on the Smith machine at 60% One Repetition Maximum (1RM) workload to exhaustion, while surface electromyographic signals (sEMG) were collected from triceps brachii (TB), biceps brachii (BB), anterior deltoid (AD), posterior deltoid (PD), and pectoralis major (PM). Surface EMG signals were divided into the first half and second half of the bench press exercise. Phase synchronization index (PSI) was calculated between sEMG of synergistic muscle pairs AD-TB, AD-PM and antagonist muscle pairs BB-TB, AD-PD.ResultsEMG power of TB, AD, PD, PM muscles in alpha (8–12 Hz) frequency band and EMG power of each muscle in beta (15–35 Hz), and gamma (35–60 Hz) frequency bands were all increased during the second half of contraction compared with the first half of contraction. PSI of gamma frequency band was significantly decreased in BB-TB muscle pair while EMG-EMG coupling of AD-TB in gamma frequency band was significantly increased during the second half of contraction compared to the first half of contraction.ConclusionsThe results indicated a decrease of interconnection between synchronized cortical neurons and the motoneuron pool of BB and TB, and an increase of interconnection between AD-TB muscles during fatiguing bench press exercise at 60% 1RM workload. The changes of intermuscular coupling may be related to the supraspinal modulations to compensate for the decrease of muscle force as well as a result of unbalanced changes of agonist and antagonist muscle contractility.

ABSTRACT Eld's deer Rucervus eldii (McClelland, 1842) is an ungulate that lives in tropical lowland forests in several countries of Indochina and Hainan Island of China. Its remaining population is small and scattered, and the species is listed as an Endangered species on the IUCN Red List. The debate over the taxonomic status of the Hainan population has persisted for over a century—as an island‐endemic subspecies R. e. hainanus, or an insular population of the subspecies R. e. siamensis, would have significant conservation implications. And, given the Hainan population had experienced both population bottleneck and multiple translocations in the past, conservation genomics would be a powerful tool to evaluate the genetic impacts of these events. In this study, we used conservation genomics assessment to study population differentiation and genetic diversity of R. e. siamensis in Cambodia and three Eld's deer subpopulations on Hainan Island. Based on the unique genetic profile and demographic analysis, this study corroborated previous studies using genetic markers that the Hainan Eld's deer warrants the taxonomic status of a distinct subspecies. The Hainan population exhibits a reduction in genetic diversity and an increase in the level of inbreeding when compared to the population of Cambodia. The signs of purifying selection were found against homozygous loss‐of‐function mutations to decrease the deleterious burden in the Hainan population. However, there was an accumulation of more deleterious missense mutations. Furthermore, significant differences in genetic diversity and level of inbreeding found among the three Hainan subpopulations indicated population isolation and suboptimal translocation strategies, which calls for urgent, coordinated, and science‐based genetic management to ensure the long‐term viability of the endemic subspecies hainanus. This study provides guidance for the conservation and management of Eld's deer.

Adult-onset immunodeficiency (AOID) mediated by anti-interferon-γ autoantibodies (AIGA) is a rare condition, particularly prevalent in Southeast Asia and southern China. We present a case study of a 62-year-old female with AOID who developed a severe pulmonary infection caused by Talaromyces marneffei (TM), leading to acute respiratory failure, generalized rash, multiple lymphadenopathies, bone destruction, and a mediastinal mass. Treatment included mechanical ventilation, antifungal medication, and corticosteroids, resulting in complete recovery and discharge. This case underscores the challenges of managing complex infections in AOID patients and highlights the importance of early diagnosis through metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) and appropriate intervention to improve clinical outcomes.

19. An experimental study of acoustic bird repellents for reducing bird encroachment in pear orchards

Bird invasion will reduce the yield of high-value crops, which threatens the healthy development of agricultural economy. Sonic bird repellent has the advantages of large range, no time and geographical restrictions, and low cost, which has attracted people’s attention in the field of agriculture. At present, there are few studies on the application of sonic bird repellents in pear orchards to minimize economic losses and prolong the adaptive capacity of birds. In this paper, a sound wave bird repellent system based on computer vision is designed, which combines deep learning target recognition technology to accurately identify birds and drive them away. The neural network model that can recognize birds is first trained and deployed to the server. Live video is captured by an installed webcam, and the sonic bird repellent is powered by an ESP-8266 relay switch. In a pear orchard, two experimental areas were divided into two experimental areas to test the designed sonic bird repellent device, and the number of bad fruits pecked by birds was used as an indicator to evaluate the bird repelling effect. The results showed that the pear pecked fruit rate was 6.03% in the pear orchard area that used the acoustic bird repeller based on computer recognition, 7.29% in the pear orchard area of the control group that used the acoustic bird repeller with continuous operation, and 13.07% in the pear orchard area that did not use any bird repellent device. While acoustic bird repellers based on computer vision can be more effective at repelling birds, they can be used in combination with methods such as fruit bags to reduce the economic damage caused by birds.

20. Correlation among post-surgery recurrence of CRSwNP and TCM syndromes and tissue inflammatory cell infiltration type: a study protocol

Abstract Background Functional endoscopic sinus surgery is a principal option for treating chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) after medication failures. Unfortunately, some patients still have unsatisfactory postoperative recovery. The type of inflammatory cell infiltration in nasal polyp tissue has been reported available for recurrence prediction. As it is invasive and time-consuming, this technique is hard to promote clinically under the existing technical conditions. And during the course of clinical treatment, we have noted that differences in the postoperative recurrence rate of patients present among different traditional Chinese medicine syndrome types. Methods and analysis This is a non-randomized, single-center, and prospective cohort study started in Chengdu Sichuan Province, People’s Republic of China, in January 2021. A total of 200 participants will be recruited from patients who are diagnosed with CRSwNP and prepared for functional endoscopic sinus surgery. We collect preoperative data which includes general information, medical history, TCM syndromes, visual analogue scale (VAS) of subjective symptoms, Lund-Kennedy endoscopic score, and Lund-Mackay score of computed tomography (CT) scanning of sinuses. We acquire the VAS score and Lund-Kennedy score of subjective symptoms through multiple planned follow-up after surgery. After 1 year of follow-up, the recurrence rate will be calculated, and the curative effect will be assessed. Meanwhile, the patients’ pathological sections will be sorted out, and inflammatory cell infiltration will be analyzed. Statistical analysis will be carried out to evaluate the correlation among CRSwNP recurrence and TCM syndrome types and tissue inflammatory cell infiltration types. Then we will establish a predictive model for CRSwNP recurrence. Analyses of survey data include descriptive and inferential statistical approaches. Discussion This is the first prospective cohort study on investigating the correlation of CRSwNP recurrence with TCM syndrome types and tissue inflammatory cell infiltration types. Through this study, we hope to discover a new and simple, effective, and noninvasive way to predict the recurrence rate rapidly after CRSwNP and provide reference for the intervention timing of traditional Chinese medicine application, thereby achieving customized diagnosis and treatment, minimizing risks of surgical events, and delaying postoperative recurrence of CRSwNP. Abstract Exposure to PM2.5, a harmful type of air pollution, has been associated with compromised male reproductive health; however, it remains unclear whether such exposure can elicit transgenerational effects on male fertility. Here, we aim to examine the effect of paternal exposure to real-world PM2.5 on the reproductive health of male offspring. We have observed that paternal exposure to real-world PM2.5 can lead to transgenerational primary hypogonadism in a sex-selective manner, and we have also confirmed this phenotype by using an external model. Mechanically, we have identified small RNAs (sRNAs) that play a critical role in mediating these transgenerational effects. Specifically, miR6240 and piR016061, which are present in F0 PM sperm, regulate intergenerational transmission by targeting Lhcgr and Nsd1, respectively. We have also uncovered that piR033435 and piR006695 indirectly regulate F1 PM sperm methylation by binding to the 3′-untranslated region of Tet1 mRNA. The reduced expression of Tet1 resulted in hypermethylation of several testosterone synthesis genes, including Lhcgr and Gnas, impaired Leydig cell function and ultimately led to transgenerational primary hypogonadism. Our findings provide insights into the mechanisms underlying the transgenerational effects of paternal PM2.5 exposure on reproductive health, highlighting the crucial role played by sRNAs in mediating these effects. The findings underscore the significance of paternal pre-conception interventions in alleviating the adverse effects of environmental pollutants on reproductive health.

Abstract Background Misconceptions about male nurses not only exacerbate the gender imbalance in the nursing profession but also negatively impact male nurses embarking on their careers. Currently, no tool exists to measure the gender biases toward males in nursing among nursing students in China. Consequently, the primary objective of this study is to assess the validity and reliability of the Chinese translation of the Gender Misconceptions of Men in Nursing (GEMINI) scale among nursing students. Methods This cross-sectional study involved 1,102 nursing students from China who participated online. We utilized the Brislin translation technique with a forward-backward approach. To determine the factor structure within the Men in Nursing Gender Misconceptions Scale’s Chinese version, both exploratory (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were applied. The scale’s internal consistency was measured through the Cronbach’s alpha coefficient, corrected item-total correlation, and a retest reliability assessment. Results The scale showed a content validity index of 0.938 and a retest reliability of 0.844. EFA indicated a two-factor structure for the translated instrument. CFA revealed a chi-square/degree of freedom of 3.837, an incremental fit index (IFI) of 0.952, a goodness-of-fit index (GFI) of 0.910, a comparative fit index (CFI) of 0.952, and an RMSEA of 0.073, all of which were within acceptable limits. The scale’s Cronbach’s α was 0.953, and the corrected item-total correlations ranged between 0.539 and 0.838. Gender-based misconceptions about men in nursing among students appeared to be influenced by their gender and whether they considered a nursing program as their first choice when applying for a major. Misconceptions about male nurses are greater among men and those who do not consider nursing programs as their first choice when applying for a major. Conclusions The Chinese adaptation of the GEMINI scale showcased high reliability and validity. It stands as a potential instrument to gauge gender misconceptions concerning male nurses among Chinese nursing students.

Abstract Ossification of the Posterior Longitudinal Ligament (OPLL) is a degenerative hyperostosis disease characterized by the transformation of the soft and elastic vertebral ligament into bone, resulting in limited spinal mobility and nerve compression. Employing both bulk and single-cell RNA sequencing, we elucidate the molecular characteristics, cellular components, and their evolution during the OPLL process at a single-cell resolution, and validate these findings in clinical samples. This study also uncovers the capability of ligament stem cells to exhibit endothelial cell-like phenotypes in vitro and in vivo. Notably, our study identifies LOXL2 as a key regulator in this process. Through gain-and loss-of-function studies, we elucidate the role of LOXL2 in the endothelial-like differentiation of ligament cells. It acts via the HIF1A pathway, promoting the secretion of downstream VEGFA and PDGF-BB. This function is not related to the enzymatic activity of LOXL2. Furthermore, we identify sorafenib, a broad-spectrum tyrosine kinase inhibitor, as an effective suppressor of LOXL2-mediated vascular morphogenesis. By disrupting the coupling between vascularization and osteogenesis, sorafenib demonstrates significant inhibition of OPLL progression in both BMP-induced and enpp1 deficiency-induced animal models while having no discernible effect on normal bone mass. These findings underscore the potential of sorafenib as a therapeutic intervention for OPLL.

Abstract Aim To examine the prognostic value of superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity for monitoring reduced left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF)in the patients with type 2 diabetes and acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Methods The population of this cross-sectional study included 2377 inpatients with type 2 diabetes who had an ACS admitted to the Shandong Provincial Hospital Affiliated to Shandong First Medical University from January 2016 to January 2021. Results Diabetic patients with ACS were divided into 2 subgroups based on LVEF. The mean SOD activity was significantly lower in patients with an LVEF ≤ 45% than in those with an LVEF > 45% (149.1 (146.4, 151.9) versus 161.9 (160.8, 163.0)). Using ROC statistic, a cut-off value of 148.8 U/ml indicated an LVEF ≤ 45% with a sensitivity of 51.6% and a specificity of 73.7%. SODs activity were found to be correlated with the levels of NT-proBNP, hs-cTnT, the inflammatory marker CRP and fibrinogen. Despite taking the lowest quartile as a reference (OR 0.368, 95% CI 0.493–0.825, P = 0.001) or examining 1 normalized unit increase (OR 0.651, 95% CI 0.482–0.880, P = 0.005), SOD activity was found to be a stronger predictor of reduced LVEF than CRP and fibrinogen, independent of confounding factors. Conclusions Our cross-sectional study suggests that SOD activity might be a valuable and easily accessible tool for assessing and monitoring reduced LVEF in the diabetic patients with ACS.

Abstract SMEFT Wilson coefficients are subject to various positivity bounds in order to be consistent with the fundamental principles of S-matrix. Previous bounds on dimension-8 SMEFT operators have been obtained using the positivity part of UV partial wave unitarity and form a (projective) convex cone. We derive a set of linear UV unitarity conditions that go beyond positivity and are easy to implement in an optimization scheme with dispersion relations in a multi-field EFT. Using Higgs scattering as an example, we demonstrate how to obtain closed bounds in the space of the three relevant dimension-8 coefficients, making use of the UV unitarity conditions as well as so-called null constraints that arise from full crossing symmetry. Specifically, we show that they are bounded by inequalities schematically going like C < O $$ \mathcal{O} $$ ((4π)2). We compare the newly obtained upper bounds with the traditional perturbative unitarity bounds from within the EFT, and discuss some phenomenological implications of the two-sided positivity bounds in the context of experimental probes of Vector Boson Scattering.

Abstract Background Late embryogenesis abundant (LEA) proteins play important roles in plant growth and development, as well as stresses responsiveness. Nowadays, it has been found that LEAs also have function in fruit ripening. However, the comprehensive analysis on a genome-wide basis of LEA family remains limited, and the role of LEA in fruit ripening has not been fully explored yet, especially in strawberry, an economic important plant and ideal material for studying fruit ripening. Results In this study, a total of 266 putative LEA proteins were identified and characterized in strawberry genome. Subcellular localization prediction indicated that they were mostly localized in chloroplast, cytoplasm and nucleus. Duplication events detection revealed that whole genome duplication or segmental was the main driver for the expansion of LEA family in strawberry. The phylogenetic analysis suggested that FaLEAs were classified into eight groups, among which, LEA2 was the largest subgroup with 179 members, followed by LEA3, dehydrin (DHN), LEA4 and SMP (seed maturation protein). The LEA1 and DHN groups were speculated to play dominant roles in strawberry fruit development and ripening, according to their larger proportion of members detected as differentially expressed genes during such process. Notably, the expression of FaLEA167 belonging to LEA1 group was altered by strawberry maturation, and inhibited by overexpression of negative regulators of ripening (a cytosolic/plastid glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase, FaGAPC2 and a cytosolic pyruvate kinase, FaPKc2.2). Subsequently, overexpression of FaLEA167 significantly increased the percentage of fruit at green stage, while reduced the full red fruit proportion. In consistent, the anthocyanins content and the fruit skin color variable reflecting a range from greenness to redness (a* value) were significantly reduced. Whereas, FaLEA167 overexpression apparently up-regulated citric acid, soluble protein and malondialdehyde content, but had no obvious effects on total soluble solids, sugar, flavonoids, phenolics content and antioxidant capacity. Conclusions These findings not only provided basic information of FaLEA family for further functional research, but also revealed the involvement of FaLEA167 in negatively regulating strawberry fruit ripening, giving new insights into understanding of FaLEA functions.

The red color of red pears is primarily attributed to the accumulation of anthocyanins, which are biosynthesized via the phenylalanine pathway. However, research into the regulation of these processes is currently limited. The study found that increasing the expression of the transcription factor PbMYB5-like resulted in increased expression of genes involved in anthocyanin, proanthocyanidin (PAs), and lignin biosynthesis, as well as anthocyanin accumulation in pear epidermis. The experiments demonstrated that PbMYB5-like interacts with bHLH3, resulting in the formation of the PbMYB5 like-bHLH3-WD40 complex, which regulates the expression of structural genes such as CCR, F5H, LAR, ANS, UFGT, and others. Furthermore, PbMYB5-like has been demonstrated to directly bind to the promoters of CHI, F3H, ANS, and UFGT genes, thereby regulating the synthesis of related metabolites. The findings of this study provide a foundation for understanding the mechanisms by which PbMYB5-like regulates pear skin color, which is a pivotal aspect in pear breeding and germplasm innovation.

Exposing C-section infants to the maternal vaginal microbiome, coined “vaginal seeding”, partially restores microbial colonization. However, whether vaginal seeding decreases metabolic disease risk is unknown. Therefore, we assessed the effect of vaginal seeding of human infants on adiposity in a murine model. Germ-free mice were colonized with transitional stool from human infants who received vaginal seeding or control (placebo) seeding in a double-blind randomized trial. There was a reduction in intraabdominal adipose tissue (IAAT) volume in male mice that received stool from vaginally seeded infants compared to control infants. Higher levels of isoleucine and lower levels of nucleic acid metabolites were observed in controls and correlated with increased IAAT. This suggests that early changes in the gut microbiome and metabolome caused by vaginal seeding have a positive impact on metabolic health.

This review presents an overview of the importance of gonadal steroids in modulating opioid analgesic responsiveness and focuses on elaborating what is currently known regarding the underlyingmechanism. IntroductionSelenium (Se) plays a vital role in various physiological processes in plants and is regarded as an essential micronutrient for human health as well.MethodsIn this study, sodium selenite solution at 10, 40, 70, and 100 mg·L-1 concentrations was foliar sprayed, and the strawberry plant growth, antioxidant system, and fruit quality with an emphasis on sugar and acid content were assessed.ResultsThe results showed that 10 mg·L-1 of sodium selenite treatment promoted plant growth, while all the treated concentrations could enhance photosynthesis, the antioxidant system in leaves, the content of Se, and ascorbic acid in fruits. More importantly, 40 mg·L-1 sodium selenite treatment significantly increased fruit weight, total soluble solid, total phenolic content, and anthocyanins, as well as improved the shape index. Furthermore, it decreased the total flavonoid and proanthocyanidin content. Particularly, sodium selenite treatment at 40 and 70 mg·L-1 largely increased the ratio of soluble sugars to titratable acid. The changes of predominant sugars and organic acids during fruit development were further investigated. The sucrose, fructose, and glucose content was upregulated by sodium selenite treatment through upregulating the activities of sucrose phosphate synthase (SPS) and acid invertase, as well as the FaSPS expression. In addition, sodium selenite treatment inhibited the activity of citrate synthase and phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase, rather than modulating their transcript levels to reduce the citric acid content.ConclusionsThis work presented a potentially efficient approach to enhance plant growth and fruit quality and supplement Se in strawberry, providing insights into the mechanism of regulating sugar and acid metabolism by Se.

32. Transition of cooking fuels and obesity risk in Chinese adults

Background: Since 1990 s, China has witnessed a widespread transition to clean cooking fuels, presenting an opportunity to investigate whether household fuel transition could mitigate obesity risk and reconcile inconsistencies in the literature regarding the association between cooking fuels and obesity. Methods: The China Health and Nutrition Survey (CHNS) is a prospective cohort study covering 12 provinces of China (1989–2015). Participants were classified into persistent cleaner fuel users, fuel transitioners, and persistent polluting fuel users according to self-reported primary cooking fuels. Obesity and central obesity were defined as BMI ≥ 28.0 kg/m2 and waist circumference ≥ 90 cm in men and ≥ 85 cm in women according to Chinese criteria. Findings: Among 13,032 participants, 3657 (28.06 %) were persistent cleaner fuel users; 5264 (40.39 %) transitioned from using polluting fuels to cleaner fuels after the baseline survey; and 4111 (31.55 %) were persistent polluting fuel users. During the period of follow-up of 9.0 ± 6.8 years, 1248 (9.58 %) participants were classified into the obesity category, and 4703 (36.09 %) into the central obesity category. Persistent polluting fuel users had a significantly higher risk of developing obesity (hazard ratio [HR]: 1.45, 95 %CI: 1.22–1.72) and central obesity (HR: 1.32, 95 %CI: 1.21–1.44), compared to persistent cleaner fuel users. Persistent polluting fuel use was positively associated with developing obesity in women (HR: 1.64, 95 %CI: 1.30–2.06), but not in men. Subgroup analyses showed higher HR of persistent polluting fuel use among individuals aged 18–44 years (HR: 2.04, 95 %CI: 1.62–2.56). In contrast, the transitioners did not exhibit a significantly different risk of developing obesity (HR: 0.94, 95 %CI: 0.80–1.10) compared to persistent cleaner fuel users, which was consistent across different sex, age and urbanicity. Similar trends were observed for developing central obesity. Interpretation: Persistent polluting fuel use increased obesity risk while the obesity risk of the transition to cleaner fuels was similar to persistent use of cleaner fuels. The finding underscores the significance of advocating for the adoption of cleaner fuels as a strategy to mitigate the disease burden associated with obesity.

ObjectiveTo explore the mediating roles of activities of daily living (ADL) and economic burden of diseases in the relationship between chronic diseases and depressive symptoms of older adults.MethodsThe data were sourced from China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS). The number of chronic diseases, ADL, out-of-pocket medical expenses and the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale (CES-D) were selected as measuring indexes. Mediation analysis was conducted to explore the potential mediating roles of ADL and economic burden of diseases in the association between chronic diseases and depressive symptoms.ResultsThe number of chronic diseases, ADL, economic burden of diseases and depressive symptoms of older adults were significantly correlated with each other. ADL and economic burden of diseases individually mediated the relationship between the number of chronic diseases and depressive symptoms, accounting for 31.460% and 5.471% of the total effect, respectively. Additionally, ADL and economic burden of diseases demonstrated a chain mediating effect in this relationship, contributing to 0.759% of the total effect.ConclusionThe chain-mediated model effectively elucidated the mediating roles of ADL and economic burden of diseases in the association between chronic diseases and depressive symptoms among older adults. The study underscores the need for policymakers to focus attentively on the mental health of older adults with chronic diseases. Enhancing the capacity for ADL and strengthening social security to mitigate the economic burden of diseases are recommended strategies to alleviate depressive symptoms in older adults.

Polystyrene nanoplastics (PS-NPs) have been reported to accumulate in the testes and constitute a new threat to reproductive health. However, the exact effects of PS-NPs exposure on testicular cells and the underlying mechanisms remain largely unknown. The C57BL/6 male mice were orally administered with PS-NPs (80 nm) at different dosages (0, 10, and 40 mg/kg/day) for 60 days, and GC-1 cells were treated with PS-NPs in this study. Enlarged seminiferous tubule lumens and a loose and vacuolated layer of spermatogenic cells were observed in PS-NPs-exposed mice. Spermatogenic cells which may be one of the target cells for this reproductive damage, were decreased in the mice from PS-NPs group. PS-NPs caused spermatogenic cells to undergo senescence, manifested as elevated SA-β-galactosidase activity and activated senescence-related signaling p53-p21/Rb-p16 pathways, and induced cell cycle arrest. Mechanistically, Gene Ontology (GO) enrichment suggested the key role of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in PS-NPs-induced spermatogenic cell senescence, and this result was confirmed by measuring ROS levels. Moreover, ROS inhibition partially attenuated the senescence phenotype of spermatogenic cells and DNA damage. Using the male health atlas (MHA) database, Sirt1 was filtrated as the critical molecule in the regulation of testicular senescence. PS-NPs induced overexpression of the main ROS generator Nox2, downregulated Sirt1, increased p53 and acetylated p53 in vivo and in vitro, whereas these disturbances were partially restored by pterostilbene. In addition, pterostilbene intervention significantly alleviated the PS-NPs-induced spermatogenic cell senescence and attenuated ROS burst. Collectively, our study reveals that PS-NPs exposure can trigger spermatogenic cell senescence mediated by p53-p21/Rb-p16 signaling by regulating the Sirt1/ROS axis. Importantly, pterostilbene intervention may be a promising strategy to alleviate this damage.

35. Performance of Engineered Cementitious Composites (ECC) in shield tunnel segmental joints: A comparative study with ordinary reinforced concrete

Shield tunnel segmental joints are traditionally vulnerable, limited by their tensile capacity and susceptibility to cracking. Engineered Cementitious Composites (ECC) offer a promising solution due to their superior tensile strength, exceptional crack resistance, and remarkable toughness. However, the application of ECC in tunnel segment joints remains unexplored. To address this gap, this paper conducted comprehensive full-scale tests of ECC segmental joints versus ordinary reinforced concrete (RC) segmental joints. It investigated mechanical responses including material behavior, deflection, joint action, bolt strain, crack development, and failure modes. Results revealed that: (1) ECC joints provided a 33.97 % higher stable bearing capacity and a 50 % increase in initial cracking strength compared to RC joints. (2) ECC joints excelled in crack control, maintaining crack widths below 0.2 mm, while RC joints experienced significant cracking with widths exceeding 1 mm. (3) In terms of toughness, ECC joints surpassed RC by 66 % in the elastic stage and 123 % in the normal serviceability stage, with 96 % higher ductility. (4) ECC joints significantly outperformed RC joints in bolt stress uniformity and concentration, achieving a 43.21 % reduction in average bolt stress. (5) Regarding multi-scale mechanical effects, ECC joints increased the toughness and strength advantage over RC by more than 45 % in the elastic phase. These results reveal the potential of ECC in significantly enhancing the durability and resilience of shield tunnels, particularly in harsh environments subjected to high ground stress or seismic activities.

Abstract In this work, eight Mn‐RE (RE = Ce, Pr, Sm, Tb, Er, Tm, Lu, and Y) binary systems were reassessed thermodynamically by the CALPHAD method based on the reported optimizations and experimental information. Self‐consistent thermodynamic parameters to describe Gibbs energies of various phases in eight Mn‐RE binary systems were obtained. The calculated phase equilibria and thermodynamic properties of eight Mn‐RE binary systems are in good accordance with the experimental results. Furthermore, phase equilibria and thermodynamic properties of 13 Mn‐RE (RE = La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Lu, and Y) binary systems were discussed systematically in combination with the present calculations and the reported optimizations. A trend was found for the variation of phase equilibria and thermodynamic properties of the Mn‐RE binary systems. In general, as the RE atomic number increases, the enthalpies of mixing of liquid alloys as well as the enthalpies of formation of the intermetallic compounds become increasingly negative, and the formation temperatures of the intermetallic compounds become higher. The results provide a complete set of self‐consistent thermodynamic parameters for the Mn‐RE binary systems, and a thermodynamic database of 13 Mn‐RE binary systems was finally achieved.

37. UPLC-MS/MS determination of 71 neuropsychotropic drugs in human serum

In this study, a UPLC-MS/MS method was developed for the rapid detection of 71 neuropsychotropic drugs in human serum for drug concentration monitoring and toxicity screening. The analytes were separated from the biological matrix by protein precipitation using a methanol-acetonitrile solvent mixture. The chromatographic separation was performed on a Kromasil ClassicShell C18 column (2.1*50 mm, 2.5 μ m) with gradient elution using acetonitrile-0.2 % acetic acid and 10 mM ammonium acetate as the mobile phases (flow rate 0.4 mL/min, column temperature 40 °C, injection volume 5 μL). An electrospray ion source in both positive and negative ion modes with multiple ion monitoring was used. The total run time was 6 min. All compounds were quantified using the isotope internal standard method. Totally, 71 drugs were detected within their linear ranges with correlation coefficients greater than 0.990. The intra- and inter-batch precision relative standard deviations (RSDs) for the low, medium, and high concentration points were less than 15 %, with an accuracy of 90%–110 %. All compounds except Moclobemide N-oxindole are stabilised within 7 days. The relative matrix effect results for each analyte were within ±20 % of the requirements. The method is validated according to Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute guidelines, easy to use, and has a low cost.

To confirm target engagement of hits from our high-throughput screening efforts, we ran biophysical assays on several hundreds of hits from 15 different high-throughput screening campaigns. Analyzing the biophysical assay results from these screening campaigns led us to conclude that we could be more strategic in our biophysical analysis of hits by first confirming activity in a thermal shift assay (TSA) and then confirming activity in either a surface plasmon resonance (SPR) assay or a temperature-related intensity change (TRIC) assay. To understand how this new workflow shapes the quality of the final hits, we compared TSA/SPR or TSA/TRIC confirmed and unconfirmed hits to one another using four measures of compound quality: quantitative estimate of drug-likeness (QED), Pan-Assay Interference Compounds (PAINS), promiscuity, and aqueous solubility. In general, we found that the biophysically confirmed hits performed better in the compound quality metrics than the unconfirmed hits, demonstrating that our workflow not only confirmed target engagement of the hits but also enriched for higher quality hits.

Abstract Background Intervertebral disc calcification (IDC) combined with calcification in children has been sporadically reported, while ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL) in the cervical spine in pediatric patients is exceedingly rare. The aim of this study is to investigate the potential prognosis and outcomes associated with this condition. Case presentation We present an unusual case involving a 10-year-old Chinese child diagnosed with calcified cervical disc herniation and ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament. Conservative treatment measures were implemented, and at the 1-month and 6-month follow-up, the patient's pain exhibited significant improvement. Subsequent cervical MRI and CT scans revealed the complete disappearance of OPLL and substantial absorption of the calcified disc. During the three-month follow-up, CT demonstrated slight residual disc calcification, however, the patient remained asymptomatic with no discernible limitation in cervical motion. Conclusions We conducted a comprehensive review of several cases presenting with the same diagnosis. It is noteworthy that IDC combined with OPLL in children constitutes a rare clinical entity. Despite imaging indications of potential spinal canal occupation, the majority of such cases demonstrate complete absorption following conservative treatment, with OPLL exhibiting a faster absorption rate than calcified discs.

Abstract Under pathological conditions, the immune-specialized brain microenvironment contains both resident microglia and bone marrow-derived myeloid cells recruited from peripheral circulation. Due to largely overlapping phenotypic similarities between these ontogenically distinct myeloid populations, studying their individual functions in central nervous system diseases has been challenging. Recently, transmembrane protein 119 (Tmem119) has been reported as a marker for resident microglia which is not expressed by bone marrow-derived myeloid cells. However, several studies have reported the loss or reduction of Tmem119 expression in pathologically activated microglia. Here, we examined whether Tmem119 could be used as a robust marker to identify brain metastasis-associated microglia. In addition, we also compared Tmem119 expression of primary microglia to the immortalized microglia-like BV2 cell line and characterized expression changes after LPS treatment. Lastly, we used a commercially available transgenic mouse line (Tmem119-eGFP) to compare Tmem119 expression patterns to the traditional antibody-based detection methods. Our results indicate that brain metastasis-associated microglia have reduced Tmem119 gene and protein expression.

42. Oblique distribution patterns and the underlying mechanical model of orebody groups controlled by structures at different scales

Abstract The oblique distribution of orebodies is a basic feature of the spatial distribution of orebody groups in hydrothermal deposits, and it is closely related to the shearing effect. However, the oblique distribution patterns of orebody groups controlled by ore-controlling/ore-forming structures at different scales (orebody, ore deposit and ore field scales) and the underlying formation mechanism are unclear but could be used to directly constrain mineral exploration and prospecting breakthroughs in the deep and peripheral areas of ore deposits. This paper uses the northeastern Yunnan Ge-rich Pb–Zn ore concentration area in the Sichuan–Yunnan–Guizhou metallogenic area as an example to analyse and demonstrate the oblique distribution patterns of orebodies (orebody groups) controlled by ore-forming/ore-controlling structures at different scales and the underlying mechanical model based on the Theory and Methods of Ore field Geomechanics. The results indicate that in 3D space, the oblique distributions of orebodies (veins), orebody groups and ore deposits are controlled by the mechanical properties, kinematic characteristics, and tectonic stress fields of ore-forming/ore-controlling fault structures of different sequences during the mineralization period. This study has an important guiding role for ore field-scale exploration deployment, evaluation of deep and peripheral prospecting, and exploration project arrangement, with the aim of helping mining companies increase resource reserves and production.

Abstract As voltage measuring devices are widely used in the high voltage power system with a primary‐secondary‐fusion structure, electronic voltage transformers are directly connected to the primary conductor and would face much more serious electromagnetic environments than general secondary equipment. As a result, they would still experience failures even when general protection measures are adopted to suppress overvoltages' amplitudes. To address this issue, an innovative method is proposed after analyses are conducted on the resonance between a transformer and an overvoltage. Within this method, an air‐cored coil is installed in a transformer to artificially shift its natural frequency and to dodge the high‐frequency dominant component of a transient overvoltage, avoiding the aforementioned resonance and suppressing the secondary overvoltage. In addition, simulations and laboratory tests are conducted to prove this method's validity.

Abstract Background Cervical cancer is the fourth most common malignant tumor troubling women worldwide. Whether marital status affects the prognosis of cervical cancer is still unclear. Here, we investigate the prognostic value of marital status in patients with cervical cancer based on the seer database. Material/Methods The demographic and clinical data of patients with cervical cancer were extracted from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database from 1975 to 2017. Patients were divided into two groups (married and unmarried) according to marital status, and then the clinical characteristics of each group were compared using the chi-square test. Propensity score matching (PSM) was used to reduce differences in baseline characteristics. The overall survival (OS) and cervical cancer-specific survival (CCSS) were assessed by the Kaplan-Meier method, univariate and multivariate Cox regression models, and stratified analysis. Moreover, univariate and multivariate competing risk regression models were performed to calculate hazard ratios (HR) of death risk. Citrus is one of the world's most economically important fruit crops cultivated by grafting. To support the growth of scion cultivars, rootstock is the primary source of resistance to various abiotic stresses. Herein, seedlings of two genotypes of Citrus junos Sieb. ex Tanaka (the novel rootstock 'Shuzhen No.1' and commonly used rootstock 'Ziyang Xiangcheng'), as well as three commonly used rootstocks including citrange (Citrus sinensis Osbeck. × Poncirus trifoliata Raf.), trifoliate orange (P. trifoliata), and red tangerine (Citrus tangerine Hort. Ex Tanaka), were used as testing materials. The seed characteristics were evaluated, and the rootstock seedlings were subjected to flooding, drought, alkaline, and freezing treatments. Over time, the contents of chlorophyll, soluble sugar, proline, malondialdehyde, and the activity of superoxide dismutase, peroxidase, and catalase in the leaves under different treatments were examined. Furthermore, five citrus varieties were grafted as scions onto one-year-old seedlings from the four rootstocks. Graft success, shoot growth, and leaf greenness were measured and compared. The physiological and biochemical changes in 'Shuzhen No.1' were found to be similar to those in 'Ziyang Xiangcheng'. 'Shuzhen No.1' exhibited greater tolerance to flooding, alkaline, and freezing stress compared to the other four widely used citrus rootstocks, as indicated by physiological and biochemical indexes and principal component analysis. Moreover, the five citrus varieties grafted onto 'Shuzhen No.1' demonstrated vigorous growth and tree vigor. These findings provide valuable insights for the application of 'Shuzhen No.1' and future research on citrus rootstock.

The basic leucine zippers (bZIPs) transcription factors play crucial roles in various vital biological processes and have been extensively studied across multiple species. However, their presence in the Rubus species has received limited attention. In this study, we identified 49 bZIP transcription factor genes in the genomes of black raspberry (R. occidentalis) and red raspberry (R. idaeus). Phylogenetic analysis successfully classified the bZIPs into 13 subfamilies. Comparative genomic analysis revealed a conservation of bZIP gene numbers among ten Rosaceae species, with gene duplications partially contributing to the expansion of this family in Rubus. Microsynteny analysis further supported the evolutionary conservation of this gene family among Rosaceae genomes. Tissue-specific expression of black raspberry bZIPs was observed, and gene ontology enrichment analyses revealed their involvement in various biological processes. Those members that respond to nitrogen were identified. Dimerization properties of bZIP proteins were predicted based on the amino acid composition of their coiled-coil domains. Protein interaction network analysis and yeast two-hybrid assays unveiled the formation of heterodimers between the S1/C groups in R. occidentalis. This comprehensive characterization of the bZIP transcription factor family provides valuable insights into the evolution and functions of bZIP genes in Rubus.

Abstract The White-eared Night-Heron (Gorsachius magnificus, G. magnificus) is a critically endangered heron that is very poorly known and only found in southern China and northern Vietnam, with an estimated population of 250 to 999 mature individuals. However, the lack of a reference genome has hindered the implementation of conservation management efforts. In this study, we present the first high-quality chromosome-scale reference genome, which was assembled by integrating PacBio long-reads sequencing, Illumina paired-end sequencing, and Hi-C technology. The genome has a total length of 1.176 Gb, with a scaffold N50 of 84.77 Mb and a contig N50 of 18.46 Mb. Utilizing Hi-C data, we anchored 99.89% of the scaffold sequences onto 29 pairs of chromosomes. Additionally, we identified 18,062 protein-coding genes in the genome, with 95.00% of which were functionally annotated. Notably, BUSCO assessment confirmed the presence of 97.2% of highly conserved Aves genes within the genome. This chromosome-level genome assembly and annotation will be valuable for future investigating the G. magnificus’s evolutionary adaptation and conservation.

BackgroundInfluenza is an important public health issue of global concern. Meteorological factors are one of the important factors affecting the incidence of influenza. Exploring the correlation between temperature and influenza can provide a scientific basis for the prevention and control of influenza in specific regions. ObjectiveTo explore the association and attributable risk between temperature and influenza incidence in residents aged 0-14 years in Longhua District of Shenzhen. MethodsMeteorological observation data were collected from the Meteorological Bureau of Longhua District, Shenzhen City from January 2016 to December 2019. A total of 19657 influenza cases among children of 0-14 years old were identified from the China Information System for Disease Control and Prevention during the same period. Spearman rank correlation was used to analyze the correlation between daily incidence of influenza and meteorological factors. Distributed lag non-linear model was used to quantify the association and lag effect of temperature on influenza incidence in different gender and age groups, and to estimate the attributable risk of temperature on influenza incidence. Abstract An excellent single-atomic photocatalyst, Ti@C4N3, is theoretically found to effectively convert CO2 to C2H6 by density functional theory (DFT) calculations and non-adiabatic molecular dynamics (NAMD) simulations. The Ti@C4N3 photocatalyst has remarkable stability both thermally, chemically, and mechanically. Electronically, it has strong absorption properties (λ = 327.77 and 529.61 nm), suitable band positions, and a long photogenerated electron lifetime (τ e = 38.21 ps), allowing photogenerated electrons to migrate to the surface. Notably, the high-valence active site effectively activates two CO2 through dual activation: Under light irradiation, the weakly adsorbed CO2 undergoes photo-induced activation by the photoelectron of conduction band minimum (CBM); without light, the high Lewis acidity of the Ti site induces CO2 activation through back-donating π-bond. Contrast simulation results uncovered that dual activation of CO2 is attributed to the thermal and photonic synergy. Furthermore, two activated CO2 species under light easily couple to form oxalate with the barrier of 0.19 eV, and further reduced to C2H6 with a low activation energy of 1.09 eV.

Abstract Background Currently, there are few scales used to assess the stressors experienced by undergraduate nursing interns during clinical practice, and the assessment of stressors during clinical practice is not comprehensive; the scale includes some unique stressors during training that is not available in the existing instruments used to assess nursing student practice stress in China. Aim The study aimed to explore the structure of the Chinese revision of the Student Nurse Stressor-14 Scale(SNS-14-CHI)and investigate the psychometric properties it among Chinese undergraduate nursing interns. Methods The original scale was culturally adjusted and revised after expert correspondence on the entries, and 414 undergraduate nursing interns were recruited from three cities in China to administer the questionnaire. Reliability was measured by internal consistency, fold-half reliability, and stability. Content validity was evaluated using exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) to assess the validity of the SNS-14-CHI. Results The SNS-14-CHI retained 14 items, the EFA supported a 2-factor structure, and the items’ factor attribution differed from the original scale. The CFA results showed a good model fit. The Cronbach coefficient of the scale was 0.934, and the coefficient values of the two factors were 0.890 and 0.898. The content validity index of the scale was 0.964.The cumulative variance contribution of the 2-factor structure was 60.445%. The split-half reliability and stability were 0.869,0.762, respectively. Conclusion The SNS-14-CHI has excellent reliability and validity among undergraduate nursing trainees. The evaluation results of the scale can provide a reference for nursing managers to develop educational programs and interventions to quantify nursing student stress.
