Background: Visceral adiposity index (VAI) has been recognized as a reliable indicator for visceral adiposity. However, it remains largely unexplored on its association with fasting plasma glucose (FPG). The current study aims to explore the association between VAI and FPG using a representative dataset. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out based on the dataset from National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2017–2020. Univariate and Multiple linear regression analysis were performed to explore the relationship between VAI and FPG. Generalized additive model (GAM) and smooth curve fitting analysis were performed to explore the nonlinear relationship between VAI and FPG. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was used to evaluate the predictive value of VAI for FPG elevation. Results: A total of 4437 participants with complete data were finally included in the research. Individuals were divided into 4 quartiles according to the calculated VAI value: Q1 (VAI<0.69), Q2 (0.69 ≤ VAI < 1.18), Q3 (1.18 ≤ VAI < 2.02) and Q4 (VAI ≥ 2.02). FPG significantly increased with the increasing VAI quartile. Multiple linear regression analysis showed VAI was independently positively associated with FPG after adjusting confounding factors. As a continuous variable, an increase of one unit in VAI was correlated with 0.52 mmol/L (95% CI: 0.41–0.63, p < 0.0001) higher FPG level. As a categorical variable, 4th VAI quartile group was related to 0.71 mmol/L (95% CI: 0.47–0.95, p < 0.001) higher FPG level compared with 1st VAI group. GAM and smooth curve fitting analysis identified the non-linear relationship between VAI and FPG, and 4.02 was identified as the inflection point using two-piecewise linear regression. The positive association between VAI and FPG existed when VAI was lower (β = 0.73, p < 0.0001) and higher than 4.02 (β = 0.23, p = 0.0063). ROC analysis indicated VAI has a good predictive value for FPG elevation (AUC = 0.7169, 95% CI: 0.6948–0.7389), and the best threshold of VAI was 1.4315. Conclusion: VAI was an independently risk indicator for FPG, and VAI was nonlinearly positively associated with FPG. VAI had a good predictive value for elevated FPG. The crucial pathophysiological and prognostic roles of the right ventricle in various diseases have been well-established. Nonetheless, conventional cardiovascular imaging modalities are frequently associated with intrinsic limitations when evaluating right ventricular (RV) morphology and function. The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in multimodality imaging presents a promising avenue to circumvent these obstacles, paving the way for future fully automated imaging paradigms. This review aimed to address the current challenges faced by clinicians and researchers in integrating RV imaging and AI technology, to provide a comprehensive overview of the current applications of AI in RV imaging, and to offer insights into future directions, opportunities, and potential challenges in this rapidly advancing field. We explored the effect of admission hyperglycemia (AH) on the Global Registry of Acute Coronary Events (GRACE) risk score and major adverse cardiovascular and cerebrovascular event (MACCE) incidence during 1-year follow-up in acute myocardial infarction (AMI) patients. In this retrospective observational study enrolling 1098 AMI patients, hyperglycemia was defined as blood glucose level ≥180 mg/dl at admission. Overall, 158 and 84 patients of 272 diabetic and 826 non-diabetic patients were diagnosed with AH, respectively. Glucose levels at admission were closely associated with the GRACE score in patients with/without diabetes. MACCEs occurred in 222 patients; patients with AH showed significantly higher MACCE incidence (28.1%). Multivariate Cox logistic regression analysis indicated that AH was an independent risk factor for 1-year MACCEs. Subgroup analysis demonstrated that hyperglycemia increases MACCE risk in non-diabetic patients but not in diabetic patients. The admission glucose level combined with GRACE risk score showed a certain predictive value for MACCE incidence according to ROC analysis (OR = 0.798, p <.001). AH was strongly associated with a higher GRACE risk score in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction patients. A novel Prussian blue analogue CuMnFe nanoboxes with enhanced photothermal and catalytic performance were prepared and optimized by an S etching method. Cadmium (Cd) is a common environmental pollutant that accumulates mainly in the kidneys and thus endangers the physiological health of aquatic animals. Selenium (Se) is a natural antidote to heavy metals that antagonises heavy metal toxicity and enhances the antioxidant capacity of organisms. Lactobacillus plantarum (L. plantarum) can reduce the toxicity of heavy metals through adsorption, reduction and metabolism. Studies have confirmed that the biological synthesis of Se nanoparticles (Bio-SeNPs) using bacterial microorganisms is simple, safe and less toxic than the synthesis of inorganic and organic Se, but the effect on Cd-induced immunosuppression is un-known. One hundred and eighty Bulatmai barbel (Luciobarbus capito: L. capito) plants were randomly divided into control (C), Cd and Cd + Se-enriched L. plantarum groups (S1L1-Cd) and fed for 28 days. The analysis methods included histopathology, test kits, transcriptomics and real-time quantitative PCR. The addition of selenium-enriched L. plantarum significantly attenuated cadmium-induced pathological changes such as glomerular atrophy, detachment of renal tubular epithelial cells, mild swelling, and interstitial inflammatory cell infiltration. Cd stress can lead to significant decreases in RBC, HCT, WBC, LZM, C3, and IgM levels, and the addition of Se-enriched L. plantarum can significantly reverse the changes in these indicators. Transcriptomic analysis revealed 488 DEGs in the Cd groups, 301 of which were upregulated and 187 of which were downregulated. There were 1474 DEGs in the S1L1-Cd group, of which 720 were upregulated and 754 were downregulated. In addition, GO enrichment analysis revealed that the biological regulation of the most differentially expressed genes involved metal ion binding, ATP binding and nucleotide inclusion. KEGG enrichment analysis revealed six of the most enriched pathways: oxidative phosphorylation, Huntington disease, retrograde endocannabinoid signalling, natural killer cell-mediated cyto-toxicity, the IL-17 signalling pathway, and leukocyte transient migration. Moreover, we selected 12 DEGs for qRT-PCR, which showed that the qRT-PCR results were consistent with our RNA-Seq results. [Display omitted] Propane dehydrogenation (PDH) has been an outstanding technique with a bright prospect, which can meet the growing global demand for propylene. However, undesired side reactions result in the deactivation of the Pt-based catalysts, which contribute to the insufficient lifetime of the catalysts. Herein, we describe a novel catalyst by encapsulating bimetallic CoCu-modified Pt species in S-1 zeolite for efficient dehydrogenation of propane, which synergizes the confinement of zeolites and the geometric and electronic effects on Pt species for enhancing the catalyst stability. The introduction of bimetallic additives efficiently promotes the dispersion of platinum and the electron transfer between Pt species and the additives, which greatly prolongs the lifetime of the catalysts. Particularly, no obvious deactivation is observed on 0.2Pt0.3Co0.5CuK@S-1 after 93 h on stream with a weight hourly space velocity (WHSV) of 5.4 h−1, revealing an ultralow deactivation constant of 0.0011 h−1 (t = 909 h). The formation rate of propylene still maintains at a high value of 407 mol g Pt -1 h−1 (WHSV = 21.6 h−1) at 580 ℃ even after on pure propane stream for 42 h. The catalyst with the bimetallic CoCu-modified Pt species in S-1 zeolite reveals ultra-high activity and stability for PDH, which is ascribed to the highly dispersed Pt species and the stabilization effect of bimetallic additives on Pt species. Objective. To examine the relationship between admission random blood glucose (RBG), fasting blood glucose (FBG), and Gensini score in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) to clarify the effects of RBG and FBG on the severity of coronary artery disease. Method. A total of 958 consecutive AMI patients who underwent emergency coronary angiography at the Cardiology Department of Zhongda Hospital (affiliated with Southeast University) were enrolled in this study from January 1, 2016, to December 31, 2018. The Gensini score of each patient was calculated according to the results of coronary angiography. The RBG, FBG, baseline data, hematological indexes, echocardiography parameters, coronary angiography data, and the use of intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) were recorded. Patients with an RBG level >11.1 mmol/L were classified into the stress hyperglycemia group, and those with an FBG level >7.0 mmol/L were classified into the elevated FBG group. The Gensini scores in the stress hyperglycemia and elevated FBG groups were compared to those in the control group, and correlations between the RBG and FBG levels and the Gensini scores of AMI patients were evaluated. Independent risk factors for the Gensini score were analyzed by multiple linear and multiple logistic regression analyses. Results. The Gensini scores of the stress hyperglycemia group and the elevated FBG group were higher than those of the control group. RBG and FBG were positively correlated with the Gensini score, and there were significant differences between RBG and FBG in different Gensini score groups. After adjusting for confounding factors, multiple linear regression analysis showed that sex, diabetes, estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), and FBG were independent risk factors for the Gensini score. Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that age and FBG were independent risk factors in group 2 compared to group 1, eGFR and FBG were independent risk factors in group 3, and eGFR and FBG were independent risk factors in group 4. Diabetes and RBG were not independent risk factors for the Gensini score. Conclusion. The Gensini scores of patients in the stress hyperglycemia group and the elevated FBG group were significantly higher than those in the control group. Astronauts exhibit neurological dysfunction during long-duration spaceflight, and the specific mechanisms may be closely related to the cumulative effects of these neurological injuries in the space radiation environment. Here, we investigated the interaction between astrocytes and neuronal cells exposed to simulated space radiation. we selected human astrocytes (U87 MG) and neuronal cells (SH-SY5Y) to establish an experimental model to explore the interaction between astrocytes and neuronal cells in the CNS under simulated space radiation environment and the role of exosomes in the interactions. We found that γ-ray caused oxidative and inflammatory damage in human U87 MG and SH-SY5Y. The results of the conditioned medium transfer experiments showed that astrocytes exhibited a protective effect on neuronal cells, and neuronal cells influenced the activation of astrocytes in oxidative and inflammatory injury of CNS. We demonstrated that the number and size distribution of exosomes derived from U87 MG and SH-SY5Y cells were changed in response to H2O2, TNF-α or γ-ray treatment. Furthermore, we found that exosome derived from treated nerve cells influenced the cell viability and gene expression of untreated nerve cells, and the effect of exosomes was partly consistent with that of the conditioned medium. Our findings demonstrated that astrocytes showed a protective effect on neuronal cells, and neuronal cells influenced the activation of astrocytes in oxidative and inflammatory damage of CNS induced by simulated space radiation. Ferroptosis is a type of regulated cell death driven by iron dependent accumulation of cellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) when glutathione (GSH)-dependent lipid peroxidation repair systems are compromised. Nuclear receptor co-activator 4 (NCOA4)-mediated selective autophagy of ferritin, termed ferritinophagy, involves the regulation of ferroptosis. Emerging evidence has revealed that ferritinophagy and ferroptosis exert a significant role in the occurrence and development of cardiovascular disease. In the present review, we aimed to present a brief overview of ferritinophagy and ferroptosis focusing on the underlying mechanism and regulations involved. We summarize and discuss relevant research progress on the role of ferritinophagy and ferroptosis in cardiovascular diseases accompanied with potential applications of ferritinophagy and ferroptosis modulators in the treatment of ferroptosis-associated cardiovascular diseases. N6-methyladenosine (m6A) is the most prevalent internal chemical RNA modification in mammal mRNAs. Accumulating evidence has shown the critical role of m6A in cardiovascular diseases including cardiac hypertrophy, heart failure, ischemic heart disease, vascular calcification, restenosis, and aortic aneurysm. However, whether m6A participates in the occurrence and development of hypoxic pulmonary hypertension (HPH) remains largely unknown. The present study aims to explore the role of key transferase METTL3, in the development of HPH. Pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells (PASMCs) and hypoxic rat models were used to research the METTL3-mediated m6A in HPH. EdU, transwell and TUNEL were performed to evaluate the proliferation, migration and apoptosis rates. m6A RNA Methylation Quantification Kit and m6A-qPCR were utilized to measure the total m6A level and m6A level of PTEN mRNA. RNA immunoprecipitation was used to detect the interaction between METTL3 and PTEN mRNA. Both METTL3 mRNA and protein were found abnormally upregulated in vivo and in vitro. Furthermore, downregulation of METTL3 attenuated PASMCs proliferation and migration. In addition, m6A binding protein YTHDF2 was found significantly increased in PASMCs under hypoxia. YTHDF2 recognized METTL3 mediated m6A modified PTEN mRNA and promoted the degradation of PTEN. Decreased PTEN led to over-proliferation of PASMCs through activation of PI3K/Akt signaling pathway. Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a life-threatening cardiopulmonary condition caused by several pathogenic factors. All types of PH are characterized by the excessive proliferation of pulmonary artery endothelial cells and pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells, apoptosis resistance, pulmonary vascular remodeling, sustained elevated pulmonary arterial pressure, right heart failure and even death. Over the past decade, next generation sequencing, particularly RNA-sequencing, has identified some long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) that may act as regulators of cell differentiation, proliferation and apoptosis. Studies have shown that lncRNAs are closely associated with the development of several diseases, including cardiovascular diseases. In addition, a number of studies have reported that lncRNAs, including maternally expressed gene 3, metastasis-associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1, taurine upregulated 1 and cancer susceptibility candidate 2, serve important roles in the pathogenesis of PH. Despite the development of novel drug treatments, the mortality rate of PH remains high with no evident downward trend. Therefore, certain lncRNAs may be considered as therapeutic targets for the treatment of incurable PH. We report the inclusion of cyclolipopeptides (CL) from Bacillus subtilis in the production of an easily removed alginate coating for the preservation of vulnerable berries. The sodium alginate-CL (SA-CL) coating films exhibited potent antifungal and freshness-maintaining properties during the storage of blueberries, the 3% CL-added film decreased total fungal count to 2.5 × 103 cfu/g at the end of the storage. The SA-CL films had poor mechanical properties (i.e., tensile strength and elongation at break), low water vapor permeability and high water solubility. The addition of CL (3%) decreased the tensile strength and elongation at break of the SA-CL film to 0.37 mPa and 2.57%, respectively, and increased the water solubility to 28.92%. But the water vapor permeability of the 3% film was lowered to 398.10 g/m2/day. These results implied the film was suitable for the coating of vulnerable berries. Further research revealed that ionic and hydrogen bonding interactions between CL and alginate stabilized the network of the coating film while the fatty acid moiety weakened the strength and crystallinity and restricted the water transfer of the coating film. With the advancement of internet of things and wireless sensing technology, the need for personnel track and position monitoring are greatly increasing. Commercial global positioning system (GPS) and Global system for mobile communications (GSM) position methods cannot meet the demand for low power consumption and three‐dimensional indoor position monitoring. Herein, a self‐powered position monitoring system (SPMS) based on an insole‐type wearable triboelectric nanogenerator (IW‐TENG) and Bluetooth beacon for human kinetic energy harvesting and sustainable position monitoring is proposed. The SPMS consists of an insole‐type wearable triboelectric nanogenerator, an energy management module (EMM), and a Bluetooth low energy (BLE) beacon module. Benefitting from the multilayers structure, a maximum energy of 120 µJ per step can be harvested by the IW‐TENG with EMM for a typical adult. By every 3–4 steps, SPMS can transmit Bluetooth signals to obtain the location information. A single BLE signal transmission consumes only 136 µJ, and the transmission distance can reach 100 m. Objective: To explore the frequency and effect of extreme temperature on the non-accidental death rate in Hulunbuir, a Chinese ice city. Methods: From 2014 to 2018, mortality data of residents residing in Hulunbuir City were collected. The lag and cumulative effects of extreme temperature conditions on non-accidental death and respiratory and circulatory diseases were analyzed by distributed lag non-linear models (DLNM). Results: The risk of death was the highest during high-temperature conditions, the RR value was 1.111 (95% CI 1.031 ~ 1.198). The effect was severe and acute. The risk of death during extreme low-temperature conditions peaked on the fifth day, (RR 1.057; 95% CI 1.012 ~ 1.112), then decreased and was maintained for 12 days. The cumulative RR value was 1.289 (95% CI 1.045 ~ 1.589). Heat significantly influenced the incidence of non-accidental death in both men (RR 1.187; 95% CI 1.059–1.331) and women (RR 1.252; 95% CI 1.085–1.445). Conclusions: Regardless of the temperature effect, the risk of death in the elderly group (≥ 65 years) was significantly higher than that of the young group (0–64 years). High-temperature and low-temperature conditions can contribute to the increased number of deaths in Hulunbei. While high-temperature has an acute effect, low-temperature has a lagging effect. Flexible wearable humidity sensor (HS) has become indispensable in various fields such as man–machine interaction, biomedical applications, and industrial environmental monitoring. In particular, the HS powered by supercapacitor (SC) can meet the demand of environmental protection. In this study, an integrated SC and HS system (SCHS) based on the bifunctional material NiCo 2 O 4 /g-C 3 N 4 is proposed. Additionally, a humidity signal detection and wireless transmission device is developed to match SCHS. The large surface area of g-C 3 N 4 provides a significant number of surface-active sites that facilitate its synergistic effect with NiCo 2 O 4 , which has high electrochemical activity and excellent conductivity. Their synergistic effect makes g-C 3 N 4 /NiCo 2 O 4 nanocomposites not only show remarkable sensitivity (1471 kΩ/% RH@11 % RH) to humidity sensing, but also show ultra-high specific capacitance (1061F g−1@0.5 A g−1 current density) on supercapacitors. The SCHS with excellent performances is used for non-contact human–computer interaction, respiratory monitoring of patients with respiratory diseases and humidity monitoring in hazardous industrial environments. In addition, a freestanding-rotation-disk (FRD-TENG) is used as a backup power supply for humidity monitoring system and wireless transmitter module in emergency situations. Previous studies showed that fibrinogen-to-albumin ratio (FAR) regarded as a novel inflammatory and thrombotic biomarker was the risk factor for coronary artery disease (CAD). In this study, we sought to evaluate the relationship between FAR and severity of CAD, long-term prognosis in non-ST elevation acute coronary syndrome (NSTE-ACS) patients firstly implanted with drug-eluting stent (DES). A total of 1138 consecutive NSTE-ACS patients firstly implanted with DES from January 2017 to December 2018 were recruited in this study. Patients were divided into tertiles according to FAR levels (Group 1: ≤8.715%; Group 2: 8.715%~10.481%; and Group 3: >10.481%). The severity of CAD was evaluated using the Gensini Score (GS). The endpoints were major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE), including all-cause mortality, myocardial reinfarction, and target vessel revascularization (TVR). Positive correlation was detected by Spearman's rank correlation coefficient analysis between FAR and GS (r = 0.170 , P < 0.001). On multivariate logistic analysis, FAR was an independent predictor of severe CAD (OR: 1.060; 95% CI: 1.005~1.118; P < 0.05). Multivariate Cox regression analysis indicated that FAR was an independent prognostic factor for MACE at 30 days, 6 months, and 1 year after DES implantation (HR: 1.095; 95% CI: 1.011~1.186; P = 0.025. HR: 1.076; 95% CI: 1.009~1.147; P = 0.026. HR: 1.080; 95% CI: 1.022~1.141; P = 0.006). Furthermore, adding FAR to the model of established risk factors, the C-statistic increased from 0.706 to 0.720, 0.650 to 0.668, and 0.611 to 0.632, respectively. And the models had incremental prognostic value for MACE, especially for 1-year MACE (NRI: 13.6% improvement, P = 0.044 ; IDI: 0.6% improvement, P = 0.042). In conclusion, FAR was associated independently with the severity of CAD and prognosis, helping to improve risk stratification in NSTE-ACS patients firstly implanted with DES. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
