Abstract

Existing image fusion methods pay few research attention to image fusion efficiency and network architecture. However, the efficiency and accuracy of image fusion has an important impact in practical applications. To solve this problem, we propose an \textit{efficient autonomous evolution image fusion method, dubed by AE-Netv2}. Different from other image fusion methods based on deep learning, AE-Netv2 is inspired by human brain cognitive mechanism. Firstly, we discuss the influence of different network architecture on image fusion quality and fusion efficiency, which provides a reference for the design of image fusion architecture. Secondly, we explore the influence of pooling layer on image fusion task and propose an image fusion method with pooling layer. Finally, we explore the commonness and characteristics of different image fusion tasks, which provides a research basis for further research on the continuous learning characteristics of human brain in the field of image fusion. Comprehensive experiments demonstrate the superiority of AE-Netv2 compared with state-of-the-art methods in different fusion tasks at a real time speed of 100+ FPS on GTX 2070. 5. Change and continuity : making sense of marketization in the Chinese construction sector

Abstract

Since the announcement of the Open-Door policy in 1978, a plethora of reform initiatives have been introduced into the Chinese construction sector, calling upon the contributors to the construction process to adopt new ways of conducting business. This is especially true for contracting firms. However, the processes by means of which contracting firms organise themselves in response to a rapidly changing operating environment is notably neglected in the existing literature. The current research aims to address this imbalance by adopting a sensemaking perspective. Contracting firms are viewed not as quasi-fixed entities but rather as organising processes through which managers continuously make sense of a changing operating environment. Therefore, the task of organising is seen to be synonymous with sensemaking, which comprises a combination of continuously interactive discursive and material practices. The primary research interest lies in accessing managers’ sensemaking processes. Of particular importance are the ways in which managers appropriate the changing environment within which they operate and how this influences their socially constructed roles. Three case studies of state-owned contracting firms in the Chongqing City region are presented as a means of illustrating the ways in which managers make sense of the ongoing processes of marketization. Diverse voices are accessed through semi-structured interviews and documentary analysis. It is concluded that managers’ sensemaking practices take place at the nexus between contracting firms and the broader operating environment. Informed by their past experiences, managers are seen to continuously establish their own personalised mental maps for the purposes of navigating through the changing environment. Managers from the same firm produce diverse, even contradictory, interpretations of the same event as they continuously respond to ‘reality in flight’. Chinese managers are seen to selectively mobilise a mixture of market-based terminologies together with remnants of quasi-military terminology for the purposes of legitimizing their actions. Policy initiatives, such as ‘bid and tender’, ‘project management’, ‘firm’, ‘government’ and ‘PPP’ are found to be particularly relevant to Chinese managers. It is contended that managers in state-owned firms retain a partial self-identity as ‘cadres of the party’ while at the same time reluctantly absorbing the notion of being an ‘employee’. It has further been demonstrated that construction activities have been subject to an ongoing process of projectification. However, despite the introduction of quasi-contractual relationships between market-based entities, the long tradition of guanxi and the dominant role of government are not easy to overcome. It is concluded that the processes of marketization in the Chinese construction sector are continuously shaped and re-shaped by the sensemaking practices of senior managers.

21. The Basic Empathy Scale: A Chinese Validation of a Measure of Empathy in Adolescents

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of the Basic Empathy Scale (BES). The Chinese version of BES was administered to a sample (n = 1,524) aged 9-18 and 65 males with conduct disorder aged 13-18. The result of confirmatory factor analysis showed a two-factor structure with four items deleted to be the most adequate model (cognitive empathy, affective empathy). Empathy was positively correlated with a measure of prosocial behaviour and a measure of emotional problems. Boys with conduct disorder scored significantly lower than matched participants on cognitive empathy. Moreover, in line with previous researches, girls were found to score significantly higher on empathy than boys and the scores on both cognitive and affective empathy increased with age. The Chinese revision exhibited satisfactory internal consistency and moderate test-retest reliability.

Abstract

The value of anti-CTLA-4 antibodies in cancer therapy is well established. However, the broad application of currently available anti-CTLA-4 therapeutic antibodies is hampered by their narrow therapeutic index. It is therefore challenging and attractive to develop the next generation of anti-CTLA-4 therapeutics with improved safety and efficacy. To this end, we generated fully human heavy chain-only antibodies (HCAbs) against CTLA-4. The hIgG1 Fc domain of the top candidate, HCAb 4003-1, was further engineered to enhance its regulatory T (Treg) cell depletion effect and to decrease its half-life, resulting in HCAb 4003-2. We tested these HCAbs in in vitro and in vivo experiments in comparison with ipilimumab and other anti-CTLA4 antibodies. The results show that human HCAb 4003-2 binds human CTLA-4 with high affinity and potently blocks the binding of B7-1 (CD80) and B7-2 (CD86) to CTLA-4. The results also show efficient tumor penetration. HCAb 4003-2 exhibits enhanced antibodydependent cellular cytotoxicity function, lower serum exposure, and more potent antitumor activity than ipilimumab in murine tumor models, which is partly driven by a substantial depletion of intratumoral Tregs. Importantly, the enhanced efficacy combined with the shorter serum half-life and less systemic drug exposure in vivo potentially provides an improved therapeutic window in cynomolgus monkeys and preliminary clinical applications. With its augmented efficacy via Treg depletion and improved safety profile, HCAb 4003-2 is a promising candidate for the development of next generation anti-CTLA-4 therapy.

Abstract

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) has been widely accepted as essential for sustainable development and, with the occurrence of such disasters as food quality scandals and building collapses, its importance has been increasingly recognised in China over the past decade. At the same time, despite property development being frequently linked in the mass media with unaffordable housing prices, bribery, and poor construction quality, many large developers have instituted programmes to improve their CSR presence. However, the perceptions of property development organisations of what CSR means to them are as yet unclear. The aim of this paper, therefore, is to better understand the way CSR is seemingly perceived by property developers in China. This is undertaken by analysing CSR disclosure and prioritising information from CSR corporate reports by developers in the housing sector. Three attributes of CSR disclosure information type, responsibility type, and stakeholder type are used to construct an analytical framework for testing of 44 published company reports by content analysis. The findings indicate a greater emphasis on management approaches and ethical responsibilities than commercial goals, with industry and ownership differences pointing to the need to be recognised by the public and future decision-makers.

35. Change and continuity in the Chinese construction sector: practitioner responses to bidding and tendering

Abstract

Despite the phenomenal growth of the Chinese construction sector there is a notable absence of practice-based research relating to bidding and tendering. The broader context is provided by the introduction of marketization through a series of policy announcements dating back to the 1980s. A sensemaking perspective is adopted as a means of bridging between macro-level policy announcements and micro-processes of bidding and tendering. The selected case study is a large state-owned construction enterprise in the Chongqing city region in South West China. A mixed-methods approach includes semi-structured interviews with senior practitioners and documentary analysis. The findings illustrate how the introduction of bidding and tendering has resulted in a complex plethora of hybrid practices. The pace of change\ud is such that the construction sector in the People's Republic of China is best understood in terms of continuous adjustment to an ever-changing landscape. Hence it requires research approaches which privilege change over stability.

Abstract

With high-speed urbanization and strict requirements on energy conservation and environmental protection, eco-city has become the priority of urban development in China. Governments of all levels promote various eco-city planning schemes within a short term, but most schemes are characterized by randomness and subjectivity. To solve the lack of scientific pre-implementation evaluation for eco-city planning and improve eco-city construction quality, a systematic analysis is conducted in this study from three dimensions, namely, eco-city planning scheme, operating mechanism, and guarantee measures. A 3D evaluation model for eco-city planning is constructed through index selection. Schemes are ranked comprehensively with the distance measure method, and projection analysis is performed with the four-grid evaluation screen. Finally, the 3D evaluation model is applied to evaluate eco-city planning for Shenzhen, Chongqing, and Weifang. Results show that the model can be used to evaluate eco-city planning schemes effectively and comprehensively and offers targeted optimization suggestions in accordance with the evaluation results. Construction of the 3D evaluation model of eco-city planning based on the distance measure to determine the reasonability of eco-city planning reduces the institutional and social costs of eco-city planning practices.
