Background The purpose of this study was to analyze nearly three decades of academic research on chronic low-level benzene exposure and hematotoxicity with qualitative and quantitative analysis. Methods Publications from 1992 to 2022 were extracted from the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-E) and the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) of the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) of Thomson Reuters. WoSCC, Microsoft Excel 2016, and Citespace were used to analyze the publication outcomes, journals, countries, institutions, authors, and research areas. Results As of July 13, 2022, there have been 521 papers published on chronic low-level benzene exposure and hematotoxicity. Environmental Health Perspectives has published the most articles, the United States is the leading country, Fudan University is the leading institution, Chen Y has published the most articles, Snyder R has co-cited the most articles, and Toxicology is ranked #1 in the research field. Conclusion Many high-quality articles have been published in the last three decades. Fudan University and the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention are in the first echelon of research on long-term low-level benzene exposure and hematological toxicity. Chen Y, Ashley D, and Bertazzi P may be good candidates for collaboration in this research area. In the meantime, occupational disease researchers should pay close attention to the studies of hematological and carcinogenicity caused by occupational benzene exposure.

Benzene is an occupational and environmental toxicant, causing hematopoietic damage. Our study is aimed to extract the trend of benzene-induced leukemia (BIL) and qualitatively and quantitatively estimate research on it. Publications on BIL were identified from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC). Microsoft Excel 2019 (Redmond, WA) and The CiteSpace 5.6.R5 software (Drexel University, Philadelphia, PA) were used to analyze the publication outcomes, countries, institutions, authors, keywords, and research frontiers. The overall 1152 publications were collected from 1990 to 2019 until November 6, 2020. Environ Health Persp had the highest number of articles published. The USA were the top country in terms of BIL. The Smith MT, Yin SN, Lan Q, and Hayes RB are both listed in the top 10 of co-cited authors, high contribution authors, and the authors of co-cited references. High IF articles account for a considerable proportion, among all the publications. Chinese institutions engaged in BIL and contributed a large part of articles. Exposure population, exposure dose, and exposure risk are the research hotspots in this field. The risk of benzene exposure on childhood leukemia is at issue, and the studies on attributable risk of benzene-induced leukemia are few. More early, sensitive, and specific epigenetic biomarkers of benzolism may be the leading research fields of benzene-induced leukemia in the next few years.

In the mobile phone wireless power transfer (WPT) system with magnetic core, the loss caused by the magnetic core and winding is the central part of the system loss. Among them, the core loss is mainly related to magnetic materials, working frequency, magnetic flux density and other factors in the core; The winding loss is mainly related to the current flowing through the winding and the resistance of the winding. In this paper, it analyses the influence of the working frequency, the number of turns, the number of strands of Litz wire and different turn-width of the winding on the loss of the system. Finally, according to the analysis results, the coils within the allowable range of working frequency and current of transmitting and receiving coils are made to verify the feasibility of the optimization scheme. The simulation and experimental results show that the coil loss of the optimized scheme will be reduced under the condition that the current and phase flowing into the coils are equal.

This research focused on the effect of particle size and flotation time on magnesite flotation, and the flotation performance of various size fractions were predicted by a machine learning (ML) method. Four kinetic models were used to fit the recovery of MgO and SiO2 in various size fractions of magnesite flotation. The results demonstrated that the flotation of magnesite exhibits good agreement with the classical first-order kinetic model. Besides, the effect of various particle sizes on MgO recovery and selectivity index was predicted by ML method. It was shown that the proposed ML model could accurately reproduce the effects of particle size and flotation time on magnesite flotation performance. Furthermore, the developed model revealed that the optimal mean size range for magnesite flotation is 30 to 48 μm. Therefore, this paper is of great significance to the application of ML methods in the prediction of various magnesite size flotation performance.

Tri-n-butyl phosphate (TnBP), a typical alkyl organophosphate ester is widely used as an emerging flame retardant for polybrominated diphenyl ethers alternatives, but the potential toxicity and mechanism are unclear. In this study, the reproductive toxicity of TnBP and its related mechanisms were explored using the Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans) model. After TnBP (100–1000 μg/L) exposure, brood size and the number of fertilized eggs in the uterus in C. elegans were significantly reduced, the relative area of gonad arm and the number of total germline cells in C. elegans were significantly reduced, germ cell apoptosis and germ cell DNA damage in C. elegans were significantly increased, the level of ROS in C. elegans was significantly increased. Furthermore, TnBP exposure caused abnormal gene expressions of cell apoptosis (ced-9, ced-4 and ced-3), DNA damage (hus-1, clk-2, cep-1 and egl-1) and oxidative stress (mev-1 and gas-1). TnBP exposure can lead to reproductive ability decreased and gonad development impaired in C. elegans, the mechanism of TnBP reduced reproductive ability may be related to germ cell apoptosis, germ cell DNA damage and oxidative stress. Environmental exposure to TnBP may have potential reproductive toxicity.

To date, flexible pressure sensors built on silver nanowires (AgNWs) have attracted tremendous attention, owing to their versatile applications in wearable, human-interactive, health-monitoring devices. Cellulose and its derivatives, which show great promise in serving flexible pressure sensors as the desired substrate due to their natural abundance, biocompatibility, easy processibility, and low costs. Curcumin has received considerable interest in functional food areas due to its variety of biological effects. However, its utilization is often limited by its insolubility and instability in aqueous solutions. Herein, curcumin was encapsulated in γ-cyclodextrin metal–organic frameworks (CD-MOFs) to achieve immediate release and rapid dissolution in water just by gentle stirring due to the dissociation of CD-MOFs. The released curcumin exhibited remarkably enhanced stability compared to its free form in aqueous solutions due to the inclusion effects of cyclodextrins. Besides, the impacts of temperature, light and gastrointestinal pH on the chemical stability of curcumin released from basic and neutral CD-MOFs were compared. The molar ratios of curcumin : γ-CD in basic CD-MOFs and neutral CD-MOFs were 1 : 1.7 and 1 : 9.8, respectively. Neutral CD-MOFs were more effective in retarding thermal and gastrointestinal degradation of curcumin because all curcumin molecules can form inclusion complexes with cyclodextrin. Basic CD-MOFs were more conducive to prolonging the half-life time of curcumin during photodegradation since its alkalinity darkened the color of curcumin solution causing lower light transmittance. Moreover, CD-MOFs exhibited higher loading and stability of curcumin due to their unique host–guest structure, than their pure cyclodextrin inclusion complex. Curcumin-loaded CD-MOFs having a fast-dissolving ability accompanied by the improved amorphous form stability of curcumin hold great potential as functional additives in instant food.

The mechanism and effect of C/N ratios on the aerobic granules simultaneous nitrification, denitrification and phosphorus removal (SNDPR) system are still unclear. The reactor performance and microbial community dynamics of the system were investigated under variable C/N ratios (20, 10 and 5). The COD, TP and NH4+-N removal remained unaffected with variable C/N ratios. The decreased C/N ratio of five strongly influenced the nitrogen removal. Further investigations revealed that Candidatus_Accumulibacter, Acinetobacter, Candidatus_Competibacter were the predominant genera. Classification of key groups involved in nitrogen and phosphorus removal indicated the lowest C/N ratio resulting in a large microbial community shift. This study might contribute to the application of SNDPR system for the treatment of wastewater. Different C/N ratios led to shift on the microbial community and the dominant was phosphorus-accumulating bacteria. The nitrogen removal efficiency decreased while the removal of COD, TP and NH4+-N remained remarkable with the decreased C/N ratios.

In this paper, the effect of sodium butyl xanthate (NaBX) adsorption on the surface of bornite at different pH on flotation was studied by adsorption kinetic and thermodynamic. The flotation results demonstrated that the recovery was the highest when pH was 9 in NaBX solution (4×10−5 mol/L). The adsorption kinetics showed the reaction of NaBX on the bornite conformed to the second order kinetic equation; it belonged to the multimolecular layer adsorption of Freundlich model; the maximum adsorption rate constant was 0.30 g/(10−6 mol·min), and the equilibrium adsorption capacity was 2.70×10−6 mol/g. Thermodynamic calculation results indicated that the adsorption process was spontaneous chemisorption, and the adsorption products of NaBX on bornite surface were cupric butyl xanthate, ferric butyl xanthate and dixanthogen, which were confirmed by infrared spectrum measurements.

Hydrolysis has been commercially practiced for isolating hemicelluloses from wood chips. Acidification has also been reported as means to isolate lignocelluloses from hydrolysate. However, the performance of hydrolysis and subsequently acidification of induced hydrolysate on non-wood species is unclear. In this work, the hot water hydrolysis of wheat straw, rice straw and maize straw and the acidification of the generated hydrolysates were investigated. The hot water hydrolysis process of wheat, rice and maize straws were optimized. The effect of acidification on separating lignin from hydrolysates was also evaluated as a means to generate lignin. The properties of the collected lignocelluloses were determined to identify a potential application for them. The optimal conditions of the hydrolysis for straws were liquid/solid ratio of 12/1 (wt/wt), temperature of 170 °C and time of 60 min, which yielded rice straw hydrolysate containing more sugars than did the hydrolysates of wheat and maize straws. Acidification to pH 1.5 led to 27.49%, 29.17% and 23.38% lignin removals from the hydrolysates of wheat, rice and maize straws, respectively. Acidification decreased the furfural concentration of hydrolysates and increased the acetic acid concentration. The precipitates generated via acidification of hydrolysates had different heating values, thermal stability and ash content, and the precipitates of acidified rice straw hydrolysate had a higher heating value and thermal stability, but lower ash, than did those of acidified wheat and maize straws. The hot water hydrolysis of different straws could be conducted under the same conditions, but the acidification of hydrolysates would generate lignin with varied properties that may be suitable for altered applications. These results provide evidence for the impact of straw type on the thermal properties of extracted lignin of straw and thus its potential applications.

The low-cost calcium-based bentonite modified with anionic and cationic surfactants was granulated by cross-linking to sodium alginate (SA) to promote the adsorption efficiencies of norfloxacin (NOR). The characterization studies illustrated that the intercalation of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS) was successful. The modification improved the pore structure and the granular SA/organically modified bentonite composite (GOMBt) exhibited a lamellar structure with some roughness. The adsorption kinetics and isotherms indicated that adsorption of NOR on GOMBt was an endothermic process. The effects of various factors on the adsorption of NOR suggested that the maximum adsorption capacity was obtained under acidic conditions and cations improved the adsorption process. A fixed-bed column was employed to investigate the dynamic adsorption characteristics of NOR by GOMBt. The breakthrough time and bed height had a positive correlation; however, the relation of flow rate, pH, and breakthrough time had a negative correlation. The results showed that the dynamic adsorption data of NOR on GOMBt fitted Thomas and Yoon–Nelson models. The internal and external diffusion in GOMBt dynamic adsorption was not a rate-limiting step.

Shock wave fracturing is a novel technology in coalbed methane (CBM) exploitation. Understanding dynamic damage and failure mechanisms of rock with different grain sizes is of vital importance to shock wave fracturing. In this study, we investigate the influence of grain size on the dynamic compressive strength and failure modes of sandstones under strain rates ranging from 20 to 100 s−1 and the corresponding mesoscopic responses. The Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar (SHPB) results show that finer-grained samples are mildly fragmented with a moderate strength increase (longer microcracks with lower density) at lower strain rates ( $$\dot{\varepsilon }$$ = 20–60 s−1) but intensively fragmented with a steeper strength increase (shorter microcracks with higher density) at higher strain rates ( $$\dot{\varepsilon }$$ = 60–100 s−1). However, the trend for coarse-grained samples is the opposite. Microcracking characteristics of the tested samples were then obtained using optical microscopy. The microcrack density and the microcrack length may be used to explain the strain-rate dependence of the dynamic compressive strength and fracturing modes of the samples, respectively. These results may be helpful to build a multiscale framework to analyze the natured mechanism of crack production in CBM exploitation.

Herein, we present a transition-metal free direct O-arylation of arylhydroxylamines employing diaryliodonium salts as arylation reagents to form transient N,O-diarylhydroxylamines that could subsequently undergo [3,3]-sigmatropic rearrangement and re-aromatization to afford structurally diverse NOBIN analogs in good to excellent yields under mild conditions.

In this research, we did not use any template, but a prickly structure urchin like morphology made of composite TiO 2 /g-C 3 N 4 was synthesized by a one-step solvothermal method. It is generally reported that TiO 2 is a pure phase, besides, the photocatalytic effect of multiphase TiO 2 will be better. After the g-C 3 N 4 was successfully loaded on the TiO 2 surface, the morphology did not change. The special sea urchin morphology provides more active sites for catalysis. The band gap becomes smaller, because two materials were combined to form an interface effect. Meanwhile, it could effectively separate electron hole pairs, and promote charge transfer efficiency. More active substances were produced under visible light, such as superoxide radicals and holes. The scavenging experiment further confirms that superoxide radicals and holes play an important role in the catalytic process. The photocatalytic degradation of ibuprofen under visible light was improved. A possible enhanced photocatalytic mechanism of g-C 3 N 4 /TiO 2 heterojunction photocatalysts was proposed.

We have synthesised two kinds of graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) through a pyrolysis process involving urea and melamine. The obtained products were characterised by means of X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, UV–vis diffuse reflection spectroscopy, and nitrogen adsorption–desorption. The product derived from the urea shows a mesoporous honeycomb-like nanosheet structure (denoted by h-g-C3N4): compared with the bulk product obtained from melamine (denoted by b-g-C3N4), the h-g-C3N4 showed better adsorption and higher photo-activity for rhodamine B (RhB) reduction. The h-g-C3N4 also shows good reusability after cyclic adsorption–regeneration. The present results evinced an efficient design, an eco-friendly and convenient photocatalyst, and a tunable photo-reactivity for use in sustainable light-to-energy conversion.

Chemithermo-mechanical pulp (CTMP) has been widely utilized in papermaking industry because of its high yield. However, the poor strength properties arising from the high contents of hemicellulose and lignin have limited its applications. In this study, ultrasonicassisted cold caustic extraction (CCE) on hemicellulose removal was applied to ascertain its influence on the properties of CTMP. It was found to have a positive effect on hemicellulose removal and resultant pulp properties. At the same alkali concentration (3 wt%), hemicellulose removal and Canadian Standard Freeness (CSF) in ultrasonic-assisted CCE (360 W, 10 min) increased 53.4% and 9.6%, respectively. Ultrasonic-assisted CCE reduces alkali concentration from 5 wt% to 2 wt% to obtain similar hemicelluloses removal, whereas the pulp yield at 2 wt% NaOH was higher than that of CCE alone at 5 wt% NaOH. In addition, at the same alkali concentration (3 wt%), the tensile index, bursting index and tearing index of CTMP in ultrasonic-assisted CCE (120 W, 10 min) increased by 12.7%, 11.34% and 3.0%, respectively. Ultrasonic-assisted CCE enhanced the fibrillation of fibers at optimal conditions, as determined by SEM.

In this study, the hydrogenotrophic denitrifying bacterium Ochrobactrum anthropi was added in to the process of nitrate removal by starch-stabilized nanoscale zero valent iron (nZVI) to minimize undesirable ammonium. The ammonium control performance and cooperative mechanism of this combined process were investigated, and batch experiments were conducted to discuss the effects of starch-stabilized nZVI dose, biomass, and pH on nitrate reduction and ammonium control of this system. The combined system achieved satisfactory performance because the anaerobic iron corrosion process generates H2, which is used as an electron donor for the autohydrogenotrophic bacterium Ochrobactrum anthropi to achieve the autohydrogenotrophic denitrification process converting nitrate to N2. When starch-stabilized nZVI dose was increased from 0.5 to 2.0 g/L, nitrate reduction rate gradually increased, and ammonium yield also increased from 9.40 to 60.51 mg/L. Nitrate removal rate gradually decreased and ammonium yield decreased from 14.93 to 2.61 mg/L with initial OD600 increasing from 0.015 to 0.080. The abiotic Fe0 reduction process played a key role in nitrate removal in an acidic environment and generated large amounts of ammonium. Meanwhile, the nitrate removal rate decreased and ammonium yield also reduced in an alkaline environment.

Controllable degradation is important for the biodegradable polymers used as drug carriers, because the drug release rate can be regulated by the degradation rate. Here, we synthesized chitosan-graft-poly(D, L-lactic acid) copolymers (CgPCs) with high MSPDLLA (molar substitution of poly(D, L-lactic acid)), which possessed controllable biodegradability for regulating the drug release rate. CgPCs with high MSPDLLA were prepared efficiently through an eco-friendly system of 1-ethy-3-methyimidazolium acetate (EmimAc)/4-Dimethylaminopyridine (DMAP). The MSPDLLA reached the maximum of 12.00 within 5 hours, which involved 2.91 of DSPDLLA (the degree of substitution of poly(D, L-lactic acid)) and 4.13 of DPPDLLA (the degree of polymerization of poly(D, L-lactic acid)). Importantly, the biodegradation rate of CgPCs could be regulated by the MSPDLLA. CgPCs with MSPDLLA of 3.98 showed good hydrophilicity and fast degradation leading to burst release of curcumin, whereas CgPCs with MSPDLLA of 12.00 exhibited relatively poor hydrophilicity and slower degradation resulting in sustained release of curcumin. This study provides some new possibilities for controllable biodegradation of drug carriers and optionality of burst or sustained drug release.

At present, traditional inhibitors applied for selective flotation of fluorapatite from dolomite generally own low selectivity, high toxicity, large dosages and high costs. Thus, this research offers a novel non-toxic and eco-friendly dolomite depressant, 2-phosphonobutane-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid (PBTCA), for selective flotation of fluorapatite with sodium oleate (NaOL) as a collector. The selectively depressing effect and adsorption mechanism of PBTCA in the selective flotation of fluorapatite from dolomite were investigated via a series of experiments and analyses. The results from zeta potential and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy revealed that the chemisorption of PBTCA onto dolomite was much stronger than fluorapatite. Crystal chemistry calculation and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) further confirmed that large amounts of Mg sites only exposed on the dolomite surface mainly accounted for the selective adsorption of PBTCA onto dolomite due to the strong affinity to PBTCA. Moreover, the chemisorption of NaOL onto fluorapatite was hardly affected by the pre-addition of PBTCA, whereas the intensive chemisorption of PBTCA prevented the adsorption of NaOL onto dolomite. As a result, in the presence of PBTCA, dolomite exhibited a poor flotation performance while there was good floatability for fluorapatite, which benefited the efficient recovery of fluorapatite from dolomite by froth flotation.

The adhesion behavior between particles in the pulp will seriously affect the index of concentrate. In this paper, the effect of citric acid on chlorite in hematite reverse flotation system was studied. The flotation test and settlement test of artificial mixed ore showed that a lower dosage of citric acid could significantly improve the removal rate of chlorite. The mineral contact angle measurement and zeta potential analysis, combined with the extended DLVO theory showed that chlorite is easily adsorbed on the surface of hematite, results in a lower removal rate, and the phenomenon was analyzed by a laser particle size analyzer and optical microscope. The results showed that citric acid can reduce the apparent grain size of artificial mixed ore and improve the dispersion degree of pulp by changing the wettability and surface potential of the minerals, thus increased the removal rate of chlorite.
