Abstract Epitaxial growth of two-dimensional (2D) materials with uniform orientation has been previously realized by introducing a small binding energy difference between the two locally most stable orientations. However, this small energy difference can be easily disturbed by uncontrollable dynamics during the growth process, limiting its practical applications. Herein, we propose a quasi-equilibrium growth (QEG) strategy to synthesize inch-scale monolayer α-In2Se3 single crystals, a semiconductor with ferroelectric properties, on fluor-phlogopite substrates. The QEG facilitates the discrimination of small differences in binding energy between the two locally most stable orientations, realizing robust single-orientation epitaxy within a broad growth window. Thus, single-crystal α-In2Se3 film can be epitaxially grown on fluor-phlogopite, the cleavage surface atomic layer of which has the same 3-fold rotational symmetry with α-In2Se3. The resulting crystalline quality enables high electron mobility up to 117.2 cm2 V−1 s−1 in α-In2Se3 ferroelectric field-effect transistors, exhibiting reliable nonvolatile memory performance with long retention time and robust cycling endurance. In brief, the developed QEG method provides a route for preparing larger-area single-crystal 2D materials and a promising opportunity for applications of 2D ferroelectric devices and nanoelectronics.

Abstract Two-dimensional (2D) layered materials have been studied in depth during the past two decades due to their unique structure and properties. Transition metal (TM) intercalation of layered materials have been proven as an effective way to introduce new physical properties, such as tunable 2D magnetism, but the direct growth of atomically thin heteroatoms-intercalated layered materials remains untapped. Herein, we directly synthesize various ultrathin heteroatoms-intercalated 2D layered materials (UHI-2DMs) through flux-assisted growth (FAG) approach. Eight UHI-2DMs (V1/3NbS2, Cr1/3NbS2, Mn1/3NbS2, Fe1/3NbS2, Co1/3NbS2, Co1/3NbSe2, Fe1/3TaS2, Fe1/4TaS2) were successfully synthesized. Their thickness can be reduced to the thinnest limit (bilayer 2D material with monolayer intercalated TM), and magnetic ordering can be induced in the synthesized structures. Interestingly, due to the possible anisotropy-stabilized long-range ferromagnetism in Fe1/3TaS2 with weak interlayer coupling, the layer-independent magnetic ordering temperature of Fe1/3TaS2 was revealed by magneto-transport properties. This work establishes a general method for direct synthesis of heteroatom-intercalated ultrathin 2D materials with tunable chemical and physical properties.

Abstract 6-Gingerol, the main bioactive compound of ginger, has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer and neuroprotective effects. However, it is unclear whether 6-Gingerol has protective effects against hepatic ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury. In this study, the mouse liver I/R injury model and the mouse AML12 cell hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R) model were established by pretreatment with 6-Gingerol at different concentrations to explore the potential effects of 6-Gingerol. Serum transaminase levels, liver necrotic area, cell viability, inflammatory response, and cell apoptosis were used to assess the effect of 6-Gingerol on hepatic I/R or cell H/R injury. Quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) and Western blotting were used to detect the mRNA and protein expression. The results show that 6-Gingerol decreased serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) levels, liver necrosis, inflammatory cytokines IL-1β, IL-6, MCP-1, TNF-α expression, Ly6g+ inflammatory cell infiltration, protein phosphorylation of NF-κB signaling pathway, Terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick-end labeling (TUNEL) positive cells, cell apoptosis rate, the protein expression of pro-apoptotic protein BAX and C-Caspase3, increased cell viability, and expression of anti-apoptotic protein BCL-2. Moreover, 6-Gingerol could increase the mRNA and protein expression of mitogen activated protein kinase phosphatase 5 (MKP5) and inhibit the activation of P38/JNK signaling pathway. In MKP5 knockout (KO) mice, the protective effect of 6-gingerol and the inhibition of P38/JNK pathway were significantly weakened. Therefore, our results suggest that 6-Gingerol exerts anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic effects to attenuate hepatic I/R injury by regulating the MKP5-mediated P38/JNK signaling pathway.

Background Anorexia nervosa (AN) has been characterised as a psychiatric disorder associated with increased control. Currently, it remains difficult to predict treatment response in patients with AN. Their cognitive abilities are known to be resistant to treatment. It has been established that the frontoparietal control network (FPCN) is the direct counterpart of the executive control network. Therefore, the resting-state brain activity of the FPCN may serve as a biomarker to predict treatment response in AN.Aims The study aimed to investigate the association between resting-state functional connectivity (RSFC) of the FPCN, clinical symptoms and treatment response in patients with AN.Methods In this case-control study, 79 female patients with AN and no prior treatment from the Shanghai Mental Health Center and 40 matched healthy controls (HCs) were recruited from January 2015 to March 2022. All participants completed the Questionnaire Version of the Eating Disorder Examination (version 6.0) to assess the severity of their eating disorder symptoms. Additionally, RSFC data were obtained from all participants at baseline by functional magnetic resonance imaging. Patients with AN underwent routine outpatient treatment at the 4th and 12th week, during which time their clinical symptoms were evaluated using the same measures as at baseline.Results Among the 79 patients, 40 completed the 4-week follow-up and 35 completed the 12-week follow-up. The RSFC from the right posterior parietal cortex (PPC) and dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (dlPFC) increased in 79 patients with AN vs 40 HCs after controlling for depression and anxiety symptoms. By multiple linear regression, the RSFC of the PPC to the inferior frontal gyrus was found to be a significant factor for self-reported eating disorder symptoms at baseline and the treatment response to cognitive preoccupations about eating and body image, after controlling for age, age of onset and body mass index. The RSFC in the dlPFC to the middle temporal gyrus and the superior frontal gyrus may be significant factors in the treatment response to binge eating and loss of control/overeating in patients with AN.Conclusions Alterations in RSFC in the FPCN appear to affect self-reported eating disorder symptoms and treatment response in patients with AN. Our findings offer new insight into the pathogenesis of AN and could promote early prevention and treatment.

IntroductionAdolescence is considered a stress-sensitive developmental period, and the escalating and sustained pressure during this phase poses a significant threat to the mental and physical well-being of adolescents. Therefore, enhancing positive emotions in adolescents is crucial. This study aims to investigate the impact of physical activity on the emotional intelligence, interpersonal forgiveness, and positive emotions of adolescents.MethodsUsing a cluster sampling method, data were collected from 500 adolescents in four schools across the Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture of Hunan Province, China. A total of 428 valid questionnaires were collected and analyzed. The study employed AMOS v.23 to construct a structural equation model to validate the hypotheses.ResultsThe results indicate that physical activity significantly influences the emotional intelligence, interpersonal forgiveness, and positive emotions of adolescents. Furthermore, emotional intelligence and interpersonal forgiveness mediate the relationship between physical activity and positive emotions.DiscussionBased on these findings, collaborative efforts from government agencies, schools, and families are essential to provide robust support for adolescents’ participation in physical activity, encouraging more adolescents to actively engage in sports.

IntroductionIn the current trend toward youthfulness and age reduction in competitive sports, the issue of obligatory exercise among young athletes is becoming more severe. This not only affects their physical and mental health but also hampers their future prospects in the sports world. While delving into the impact of mindfulness on the issue of obligatory exercise among young athletes, it reveals the mediating role of obsessive passion and cognitive state anxiety.MethodsThis study is a cross-sectional research that employs convenience and snowball sampling methods. We selected 403 young athletes from several universities and high-level sports teams in the central-southern region of China as valid samples and used AMOS v.23 to construct a structural equation model to validate the hypotheses.ResultsThe research findings indicate a significant positive correlation between obsessive passion, cognitive state anxiety, and obligatory exercise. Furthermore, obsessive passion and cognitive state anxiety mediate the relationship between mindfulness and obligatory exercise. This implies that young athletes can better regulate their emotional state during training, manage training loads sensibly, and avoid issues with obligatory exercise through mindfulness training.DiscussionIn conclusion, to enhance the cognitive levels of young athletes and reduce their obligatory exercise behaviors, national sports authorities and coaching teams should develop reasonable mindfulness training programs for athletes and encourage their participation in mindfulness training.

Abstract Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a common emergency of the digestive system and serious cases can develop into severe acute pancreatitis (SAP), which ortality rates up to 30%. Sirtuin4 (SIRT4) is a member of the sirtuin family, and plays a key role in inflammation and oxidative stress. However, the potential role of SIRT4 in SAP has yet to be elucidated. In the present study, we found that the expression level of SIRT4 in human AP was downregulated by screening a public database, suggesting that SIRT4 may play a role in AP. Subsequently, we used L-arginine (L-Arg) to induce SAP in SIRT4 knockout (SIRT4_KO) and SIRT4 overexpression (AAV_SIRT4) mice. The results showed that the pancreatic tissue injury and related lung and kidney injury were serious in SIRT4_KO mice after SAP induction, but were significantly reduced in AAV_SIRT4 mice. More importantly, we found that the levels of antioxidant factors GSH and SOD were decreased in SIRT4_KO mice, and the production of oxidative products and lipid peroxidation markers was increased, suggesting that SIRT4 was involved in inflammation and oxidative stress during SAP. Further studies showed that the absence or overexpression of SIRT4 affected the expression level of Hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) after SAP induction, and regulated the expression of ferroptosis related proteins by mediating HIF-1α/HO-1 pathway. Collectively, our study revealed that SIRT4 plays a protective role in SAP by regulating the HIF-1α/HO-1 pathway to inhibit ferroptosis.

The reproductive performance of horse sperm and donkey sperm has been reported to differ. Sperm proteins play a crucial role in sperm viability and fertility. Although differences between species are known, no prior study has investigated disparities in the sperm proteome between horses and donkeys. Therefore, this study characterized and compared the sperm proteomes of horses and donkeys using 4D-DIA mass spectrometry technology. We identified 3436 proteins in horse sperm and 3404 proteins in donkey sperm. Of these, 3363 proteins were expressed in both horse and donkey sperm, with 73 proteins being specifically expressed in horse sperm, and 41 in donkey sperm. According to data analysis, donkeys exhibited a greater percentage of motility and progressive movement in straight-line sperm than horses, as well as lower percentages of static and slow sperm than horses. Joint analysis of the results from the horse and donkey sperm proteomes and their CEROS II-read parameters demonstrated a possible association between sperm proteins and their sperm viability patterns. These findings suggest that there are discrepancies in the expression levels and protein compositions of horse and donkey sperm and that certain specific proteins may be responsible for the differences in performance between these two species.

Fermented mare’s milk (koumiss), a traditional Central Asian dairy product derived from fermented mare’s milk, is renowned for its unique sour taste and texture. It has long been consumed by nomadic tribes for its nutritional and medicinal benefits. This study aimed to comprehensively analyze the protective effects of koumiss against alcohol-induced harm across behavioral, hematological, gastrointestinal, hepatic, and reproductive dimensions using a mouse model. Optimal intoxicating doses of alcohol and koumiss doses were determined, and their effects were explored through sleep tests and blood indicator measurements. Pretreatment with koumiss delayed inebriation, accelerated sobering, and reduced mortality in mice, mitigating alcohol’s impact on blood ethanol levels and various physiological parameters. Histopathological and molecular analyses further confirmed koumiss’s protective role against alcohol-induced damage in the liver, stomach, small intestine, and reproductive system. Transcriptomic studies on reproductive damage indicated that koumiss exerts its benefits by influencing mitochondrial and ribosomal functions and also shows promise in mitigating alcohol’s effects on the reproductive system. In summary, koumiss emerges as a potential natural agent for protection against alcohol-induced harm, opening avenues for future research in this field.

BackgroundValvular heart disease is a major health concern worldwide. The effective management of patients undergoing valve replacement determines their prognosis. Bibliometric analysis of studies on managing patients with artificial heart valves has not been previously performed.MethodsThis study analyzed 2,771 publications related to patient management after valve replacement published in the Web of Science Core Collection database between January 1, 2013, and December 31, 2022. Bibliometric analysis was performed using CiteSpace and VOSviewer considering countries, institutions, authors, journals, references, and keywords.ResultsThe countries with the most significant contributions in this field were the United States of America (USA), Germany, and Italy. Leon MB from Columbia University, USA was the most influential author. Transcatheter aortic valve replacement was a current research hotspot, while anticoagulation management was a key area of interest. Combining anticoagulation therapy with internet-linked tools and portable health devices may offer new research avenues. Frailty assessment and intervention were potential future research areas.ConclusionsThis bibliometric analysis provides clinicians and researchers with useful insights for developing novel ideas and directions to manage the health of patients undergoing valve replacement.

Differences in topography and environment greatly affect the genetic structure and genetic differentiation of species, and endemic or endangered species with limited geographic ranges seem to be more sensitive to changes in climate and other environmental factors. The complex topography of eastern China is likely to affect genetic differentiation of plants there. Carpinus tientaiensis Cheng is a native and endangered plants from China, and exploring its genetic diversity has profound significance for protection and the collection of germplasm resources. Based on AFLP markers, this study found that C. tientaiensis has low genetic diversity, which mainly came from within populations, while Shangshantou and Tiantai Mountain populations have relatively high genetic diversity. The Nei genetic distance was closely related to geographical distance, and temperature and precipitation notablely affected the genetic variation and genetic differentiation of C. tientaiensis. Based on cpDNA, this study indicated that C. tientaiensis exhibits a moderate level of genetic diversity, and which mainly came from among populations, while Tiantai Mountain population have the highest genetic diversity. It demonstrated that there was genetic differentiation between populations, which can be divided into two independent geographical groups, but there was no significant phylogeographic structure between them. The MaxEnt model showed that climate change significantly affects its distribution, and the suitable distribution areas in Zhejiang were primarily divided into two regions, eastern Zhejiang and southern Zhejiang, and there was niche differentiation in its suitable distribution areas. Therefore, this study speculated that the climate and the terrain of mountains and hills in East China jointly shape the genetic structure of C. tientaiensis, which gived rise to an obvious north-south differentiation trend of these species, and the populations located in the hilly areas of eastern Zhejiang and the mountainous areas of southern Zhejiang formed two genetic branches respectively.

Testicular development and spermatogenesis are tightly regulated by both coding and non-coding genes, with mRNA and lncRNA playing crucial roles in post-transcriptional gene expression regulation. However, there are significant differences in regulatory mechanisms before and after sexual maturity. Nevertheless, the mRNAs and lncRNAs in the testes of Mongolian horses have not been systematically identified. In this study, we first identified the testicular tissues of sexually immature and sexually mature Mongolian horses at the tissue and protein levels, and comprehensively analyzed the expression profiles of mRNA and lncRNA in the testes of 1-year-old (12 months, n = 3) and 10-year-old (n = 3) Mongolian horses using RNA sequencing technology. Through gene expression analysis, we identified 16,582 mRNAs and 2128 unknown lncRNAs that are commonly expressed in both sexually immature and sexually mature Mongolian horses. Meanwhile, 9217 mRNAs (p < 0.05) and 2191 unknown lncRNAs (p < 0.05) were identified as differentially expressed between the two stages, which were further validated by real-time fluorescent quantitative PCR and analyzed using Gene Ontology (GO) and the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG). The analysis results showed that genes in the sexually immature stage were mainly enriched in terms related to cellular infrastructure, while genes in the sexually mature stage were enriched in terms associated with hormones, metabolism, and spermatogenesis. In summary, the findings of this study provide valuable resources for a deeper understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying testicular development and spermatogenesis in Mongolian horses and offer new perspectives for future related research.

Depression is a complex and prevalent mental illness. Cherry leaf is a traditional Chinese herbal medicine, which has confirmed to exert a certain antidepressant effect, but its potential neural regulation mechanism is not clear. This paper aims to investigate the improved action of cherry leaf decoction (CLD) on chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) rats and its potential neural regulation mechanism by verifying the role and function of NMDAR regulatory target α2δ-1 in depression due to CUMS. Male SD rats were subjected to random stressors persisting for 5 weeks to establish the CUMS depression rat model. CLD could effectively alleviate depression-like behaviors of CUMS rats in behavioral tests including sucrose preference test, forced swimming test, tail suspension test and open field test. After the administration of the CLD, the expression of corticotropic-releasing hormone (CRH) in the hypothalamus was inhibited. Moreover, the levels of CRH, adrenal cortical hormone (ACTH) and corticosterone (CORT) in serum also decreased significantly. CUMS upregulated the expressions of α2δ-1, N-methyl-d-aspartate receptor 1 (NR1), NR2A and NR2B, and enhanced the binding ability to of α2δ-1 and NR1, which were reversed by CLD. The results demonstrated that CLD could ameliorate depression-like behaviors due to CUMS, which was related to the fact that CLD down-regulated α2δ-1 level and interfered with α2δ-1 binding to NR1, thereby reducing NMDAR expression and ultimately inhibiting HPA axis activity.

Sulfur-oxidizing bacteria play a crucial role in various processes, including mine bioleaching, biodesulfurization, and treatment of sulfur-containing wastewater. Nevertheless, the pathway involved in sulfur oxidation is highly intricate, making it complete comprehension a formidable and protracted undertaking. The mechanisms of sulfur oxidation within the Acidithiobacillus genus, along with the process of energy production, remain areas that necessitate further research and elucidation. In this study, a novel strain of sulfur-oxidizing bacterium, Acidithiobacillus Ameehan, was isolated. Several physiological characteristics of the strain Ameehan were verified and its complete genome sequence was presented in the study. Besides, the first genome-scale metabolic network model (AMEE_WP1377) was reconstructed for Acidithiobacillus Ameehan to gain a comprehensive understanding of the metabolic capacity of the strain.The characteristics of Acidithiobacillus Ameehan included morphological size and an optimal growth temperature range of 37-45°C, as well as an optimal growth pH range of pH 2.0-8.0. The microbe was found to be capable of growth when sulfur and K2O6S4 were supplied as the energy source and electron donor for CO2 fixation. Conversely, it could not utilize Na2S2O3, FeS2, and FeSO4·7H2O as the energy source or electron donor for CO2 fixation, nor could it grow using glucose or yeast extract as a carbon source. Genome annotation revealed that the strain Ameehan possessed a series of sulfur oxidizing genes that enabled it to oxidize elemental sulfur or various reduced inorganic sulfur compounds (RISCs). In addition, the bacterium also possessed carbon fixing genes involved in the incomplete Calvin-Benson-Bassham (CBB) cycle. However, the bacterium lacked the ability to oxidize iron and fix nitrogen. By implementing a constraint-based flux analysis to predict cellular growth in the presence of 71 carbon sources, 88.7% agreement with experimental Biolog data was observed. Five sulfur oxidation pathways were discovered through model simulations. The optimal sulfur oxidation pathway had the highest ATP production rate of 14.81 mmol/gDW/h, NADH/NADPH production rate of 5.76 mmol/gDW/h, consumed 1.575 mmol/gDW/h of CO2, and 1.5 mmol/gDW/h of sulfur. Our findings provide a comprehensive outlook on the most effective cellular metabolic pathways implicated in sulfur oxidation within Acidithiobacillus Ameehan. It suggests that the OMP (outer-membrane proteins) and SQR enzymes (sulfide: quinone oxidoreductase) have a significant impact on the energy production efficiency of sulfur oxidation, which could have potential biotechnological applications.

Context Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder that affects millions of people worldwide. Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BuChE) are promising therapeutic targets for AD.Objective To evaluate the inhibitory effects of aaptamine on two cholinesterases and investigate the in vivo therapeutic effect on AD in a zebrafish model.Materials and methods Aaptamine was isolated from the sponge Aaptos suberitoides Brøndsted (Suberitidae). Enzyme inhibition, kinetic analysis, surface plasmon resonance (SPR) and molecular docking assays were used to determine its inhibitory effect on AChE and BuChE in vitro. Zebrafish were divided into six groups: control, model, 8 μM donepezil, 5 , 10 and 20 μM aaptamine. After three days of drug treatment, the behaviour assay was performed.Results The IC50 values of aaptamine towards AChE and BuChE were 16.0 and 4.6 μM. And aaptamine directly inhibited the two cholinesterases in the mixed inhibition type, with Ki values of 6.96 ± 0.04 and 6.35 ± 0.02 μM, with Kd values of 87.6 and 10.7 μM. Besides, aaptamine interacts with the crucial anionic sites of AChE and BuChE. In vivo studies indicated that the dyskinesia recovery rates of 5 , 10 and 20 μM aaptamine group were 34.8, 58.8 and 60.0%, respectively, and that of donepezil was 63.7%.Discussion and conclusions Aaptamine showed great potential to exert its anti-AD effects by directly inhibiting the activities of AChE and BuChE. Therefore, this study identified a novel medicinal application of aaptamine and provided a new structural scaffold for the development of anti-AD drugs.

Abstract Acute pancreatitis is a common acute inflammatory abdominal disease. When acute pancreatitis progresses to severe acute pancreatitis (SAP), it can lead to systemic inflammation and even multiple organ failure. Thioredoxin-interacting protein (TXNIP) is an important protein involved in redox reactions of the inflammatory response. However, the specific role of TXNIP in SAP remains unclear. In this study, we investigated the role of thioredoxin interacting protein (TXNIP) in acute pancreatitis when induced by high doses of arginine. We found that pancreatic damage and the inflammatory response associated with acute pancreatitis were largely restrained in TXNIP knock-out mice but were enhanced in mice overexpressing TXNIP. Interestingly, the phosphorylation of p38, JNK, and ASK1 diminished in TXNIP-KO mice with pancreatitis in comparison with wild-type mice. The role of oxidative stress in SAP was explored in two models: TXNIP and AVV-TXNIP. TXNIP knockdown or the inhibition of ASK1 by gs-4997 abrogated the increase in p-p38, p-JNK, and p-ASK1 in AR42J cells incubated with L-Arg. The administration of gs-4997 to mice with pancreatitis largely reduced the upregulation of IL-6, IL-1β, TNF-α, and MCP-1. Systemic inflammatory reactions and injury in the lungs and kidneys were assessed in TXNIP-KO and AVV-TXNIP mice with expected outcomes. In conclusion, TXNIP is a novel mediator of SAP and exerts action by regulating inflammatory responses and oxidative stress via the ASK1-dependent activation of the JNK/p38 pathways. Thus, targeting TXNIP may represent a promising approach to protect against SAP.

IntroductionGenetic epilepsy is a large group of clinically and genetically heterogeneous neurological disorders characterized by recurrent seizures, which have a clear association with genetic defects. In this study, we have recruited seven families from China with neurodevelopmental abnormalities in which epilepsy was a predominant manifestation, aiming to elucidate the underlying causes and make a precise diagnosis for the cases.MethodsWhole-exome sequencing (WES) combined with Sanger sequencing was used to identify the causative variants associated with the diseases in addition to essential imaging and biomedical examination.ResultsA gross intragenic deletion detected in MFSD8 was investigated via gap-polymerase chain reaction (PCR), real-time quantitative PCR (qPCR), and mRNA sequence analysis. We identified 11 variants in seven genes (ALDH7A1, CDKL5, PCDH19, QARS1, POLG, GRIN2A, and MFSD8) responsible for genetic epilepsy in the seven families, respectively. A total of six variants (c.1408T>G in ALDH7A1, c.1994_1997del in CDKL5, c.794G>A in QARS1, c.2453C>T in GRIN2A, and c.217dup and c.863+995_998+1480del in MFSD8) have not yet been reported to be associated with diseases and were all evaluated to be pathogenic or likely pathogenic according to the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ACMG) guidelines.MethodsBased on the molecular findings, we have associated the intragenic deletion in MFSD8 with the mutagenesis mechanism of Alu-mediated genomic rearrangements for the first time and provided genetic counseling, medical suggestions, and prenatal diagnosis for the families. In conclusion, molecular diagnosis is crucial to obtain improved medical outcomes and recurrence risk evaluation for genetic epilepsy.

The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of lactic acid bacteria fermentation on color expression and antioxidant activity of strawberry juice from the perspective of phenolic components. The results showed that both Lactobacillus plantarum and Lactobacillus acidophilus were able to grow in strawberry juice, promote the consumption of rutin, (+)-catechin and pelargonidin-3-O-glucoside, and increase the content of gallic acid, protocatechuic acid, caffeic acid and p-coumaric acid compared to group control. Lower pH environment in fermented juice was likely to enhance the color performance of anthocyanins and increase its parameters a* and b*, making the juice appear orange color. In addition, the scavenging capacity of 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical (DPPH) and 2,2′-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) and ferric reducing antioxidant capacity (FRAP) were improved and closely related to polyphenolic substances and strain’s metabolites in fermented juice.

Purpose: It has been reported that serotonergic systems and parenting styles are involved in the pathogenesis of anorexia nervosa (AN). The present study made attempts to examine the DNA methylation profiles in the promoter region of serotonin transporter (5-HTT) encoding gene SLC6A4, and explore the association between the methylation level and severity of symptoms, 5-HTT linked polymorphic region (5-HTTLPR) genotypes and parenting styles in untreated Chinese Han AN patients. Methods: Ninety-one untreated female AN patients (ANs) and eighty-seven matched healthy controls (HCs) were analyzed for DNA methylation status at CpG islands in the promoter region of SLC6A4 using MassARRY EpiTYPER, and genotypes of 5-HTTLPR using PCR-RFLP. The severity of eating disorder (ED) symptoms was evaluated by body mass index (BMI) and Questionnaire Version of the Eating Disorders Examination (EDE-Q 6.0), and part of participants were assessed parenting styles using the short Chinese Egna Minnen av Barndoms Uppfostra (s-EMBU-C). Results: ANs had greater methylation levels at CpG26.27.28, CpG 31.32, and CpG 37 than HCs (P = 0.039, 0.042, 0.018 respectively). A positive association of methylation level at CpG26.27.28 with ED symptoms detected by EDEQ-6.0 was discovered in AN group (r = 0.216, P = 0.047). Methylation level at CpG26.27.28 was showed to be or tend to be positively correlated with the parenting styles of paternal rejection (r = 0.425, P = 0.038) and paternal overprotection (r = 0.362, P = 0.062) in ANs. No significant differences were found in SLC6A4 promoter region methylation levels among 5-HTTLPR genotypes in our samples (P > 0.05) and no interaction effect between 5-HTTLPR genotypes and parenting styles on SLC6A4 promoter region methylation was observed (P > 0.05). Conclusions: This study suggested that hypermethylation of SLC6A4 promoter region may be implicated in the pathological mechanisms of untreated Chinese Han female ANs, which is possibly associated with poor parenting styles. This finding may provide a direction for the epigenetic and family treatments for ANs and further investigation with larger samples is warranted.

The habitat of Carpinus tientaiensis Cheng (Betulaceae), an endemic endangered species in China, has been severely damaged, and it is in danger of going extinct. It is of great practical significance to propose corresponding protection measures based on population genetic variation. Based on the nuclear internal transcribed spacer (ITS) sequences, this study discovered that C. tientaiensis has relatively high genetic diversity at the species level. At the population level, the genetic variation levels of each population were not consistent, and the genetic diversity of the northern populations was higher than that of the southern populations. There was no significant genetic differentiation and phylogeographic structure among ribotypes and populations. Phylogenetic analysis showed that Sect. Distegocarpus and Sect. Carpinus were two independent genetic groups among the Carpinus, and C. tientaiensis may be the more evolutionary species in the Sect. Carpinus. Therefore, this study inferred that while C. tientaiensis has certain adaptability, climate change and human interference have brought it to an endangered state. Its populations may experienced the bottleneck effect, after which the expansion time was too short, with the populations failing to form a complex genetic structure. In addition, Tiantai Mountain was probably the original community and center of C. tientaiensis.

This study aimed to prepare an anti-Vascular cell adhesion protein 1 (VCAM-1) nanoscale ultrasound microbubble contrast agent using the hyperbranched self-assembly method for the molecular imaging diagnosis of atherosclerotic vulnerable plaques in rabbits. Twenty-five rabbits with carotid atherosclerosis were randomly divided into 5 groups, and the ear vein was injected with agents as follows: Groups A and B: nanoscale ultrasound microbubble contrast agent with and without anti-VCAM-1 agent; Groups C and D: SonoVue ultrasonic microbubble contrast agent, with and without anti-VCAM-1 agent; Control group: saline. The molecular imaging diagnosis of the atherosclerotic plaque, involved the examination of its vulnerability in the rabbit carotid artery was performed using the contrast ultrasound mode. The arrival and peaking time of the anti-VCAM-1 nanoscale ultrasound microbubble contrast agent (Group A) for plaque occurred earlier than those of the other groups (p < 0.05), and with it, the plaque showed the strongest enhancement (p < 0.05), followed by the SonoVue ultrasound microbubble contrast agent with anti-VCAM-1 group (Group C) and the self-made nanoscale ultrasound microbubble contrast agent group (Group B). No development was observed in the plaques of the SonoVue ultrasound microbubble contrast agent group and the control group. The anti-VCAM-1 nanoscale ultrasonic microbubble contrast agent, prepared using the self-assembly method, can facilitate the development effect of the carotid atherosclerotic vulnerable plaque, providing a basis for the molecular imaging diagnosis of carotid atherosclerotic vulnerable plaques.

Carpinus polyneura and C. dayongina are recognised as separate species in Flora of China. In this study, the results of an examination of literature, morphological comparison and phenetic clustering of nuclear ITS sequences suggest that C. dayongina is conspecific with C. polyneura. Thus, we propose reducing C. dayongina to a synonym of C. polyneura.

BackgroundBulimia nervosa (BN) is characterized by recurrent episodes of eating large amounts of food without control. Studies have found positive correlations of BN symptoms with impulsive traits and negative affect. However, the network relationship supporting BN symptoms is unclear.MethodsThe study participants included female BN patients (146) and healthy controls (HCs, 146). The participants were matched for age. All participants completed the Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire 6.0, Barratt Impulsiveness Scale-11, Beck Anxiety Inventory, and Beck Depression Inventory. We characterized the centrality parameters of BN, impulsiveness, and anxiety and depression symptoms of BN patients compared with HCs.ResultsAmong all symptoms in the constructed BN group network, Shape dissatisfaction had the highest strength. In the BN group network, three clusters of symptoms (“ED-specific symptoms,” “impulsivity,” and “anxiety and depression”) were linked to each other by several symptoms. Compared to the HC network, impulsiveness was strongly associated with Concerns about Others Seeing One Eat in the BN network.ConclusionThis study shows that ED-specific symptoms, i.e., Shape dissatisfaction, play a key role in BN. The cognition of “shape dissatisfaction” is a basis, and impulsivity and emotional symptoms are maintaining factors that may lead to BN development.

Typically, storing a two-dimensional wave spectrum could occupy more than one thousand storage units, making saving and reading boundary spectra computationally burdensome in nested wave simulations. This paper proposes a new approach for preservation of a wave spectrum that can reduce the required number of storage units to dozens. Using a corresponding reconstruction approach, the spectrum can then be rebuilt with intact spectral characteristics. Experimental application confirmed that the reconstructed spectra could be adopted as boundary conditions in nested wave modeling. The newly proposed approach for preservation and reconstruction of spectra allows long-term spectral information covering the entire simulated domain to be saved with more acceptable storage consumption, and such information can then be adopted as nesting conditions for nested-child simulations without the limitations of predefined boundaries. The above-mentioned properties of the new method could help support engineering projects concerning wave environments, research focused on wave climatology, and studies associated with wave energy assessment.

Precise Point Positioning (PPP) is an official service of the BeiDou Global Navigation Satellite System (BDS-3) through the PPP-B2b signal. In this paper, we mainly focus on the long-term performance evaluation of BDS-3 PPP-B2b products and their application in time service. Since the PPP-B2b product is only available in and around China area, the arcs of PPP-B2b products are about several hours. We propose to evaluate the time datum stability by using all available satellites. Then, 557 day PPP-B2b products are collected for this experiment. The results show that there are large jumps in the GPS satellite clock time datum series. However, the BDS-3 satellite clock datum stability is almost at the same level with current Space State Representation (SSR) corrections from the International Global navigation satellite system Service (IGS). The difference between PPP-B2b GPS and BDS-3 satellite clock time datum will be absorbed into the Inter System Bias (ISB) parameter. Thus, it should be specially noted that the ISB parameter cannot be estimated as constant values if users use PPP-B2b products. In addition, the accuracy of the BDS-3 satellite clock is significantly better than that of the GPS for both the Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) and standard deviation (STD). The average Signal in Space Range Errors (SISREs) is 0.22 ns and 0.13 ns for GPS and BDS-3, respectively. The one-way timing experiment shows BDS-3 timing stability is 2.9 × 10−14@104 s. In addition, 10 baselines from 13 km to 4494 km are formed for time synchronization evaluation by using PPP-B2b products. The average RMSEs of time synchronization is from 0.46 ns to 1.58 ns and from 0.66 ns to 1.19 ns for GPS and BDS-3, respectively. As for STD, the average values are from 0.27 ns to 0.74 ns and from 0.27 ns to 0.47 ns for GPS and BDS-3, respectively. Overall, the results show that the time datum stability, accuracy, and service performance of BDS-3 PPP-B2b products has been stable over the past two years.

Dendrobium officinale (D. officinale) is a valuable traditional Chinese herbal medicine with high commercial value. In Chinese Pharmacopoeia (Ch.P., 2020 edition), the quality of D. officinale is mainly evaluated by its polysaccharide content. However, varying growth and production conditions, such as cultivation environment, origin, harvesting process, or processing methods, resulting in highly variable yields, quality, and composition. The aim of this study was to investigate whether the content of secondary metabolites in D. officinale from different origins is consistent with the polysaccharide content. The results showed that the polysaccharide content and pass rate were ranked as GX > AH > GZ > YN. Based on the nontargeted metabolomics approach, we searched for differential components in 22 different regions of D. officinale, including amides, bibenzyls, disaccharide, flavonoids, organic nitrogenous compounds, and phenolic glycosides. The overall expression was opposite to the polysaccharide, and the most expressed was YN, followed by GZ, AH, and GX. These results indicated that the current quality standard for evaluating the quality of D. officinale by polysaccharide content alone is imperfect, and small molecule compounds need to be included as quality markers.

This paper addresses the ${\mathcal H}_{\infty } $-consensus control problem for a class of discrete-time nonlinear multi-agent systems with missing measurements. First of all, the multi-agent systems under consideration are composed of N followers and a leader, where all agents are of nonlinear characteristics and all followers need to track the leader. Next, the measurements of all agents are not reliable, which could cause the occurrence of the missing measurements. In order to mitigate the computation burden stemming from the complicated couplings among the agents, the spectral decomposition and coordinate transformation are introduced to decouple the closed-loop systems into multiple independent subsystems. Then, a sufficient condition is established for the existence of the ${\mathcal H}_{\infty } $-consensus controller ensuring that the closed-loop multi-agent system achieves the ${\mathcal H}_{\infty } $-consensus performance by means of the Lyapunov stability theory. Besides, the controller parameters are obtained by solving some linear matrix inequalities. Finally, a simulation example is utilized to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed control algorithm.

Advances in nanotechnology have led to the development of antimicrobial technology of nanomaterials. In recent years, photocatalytic antibacterial disinfection methods with ZnO-based nanomaterials have attracted extensive attention in the scientific community. In addition, recently widely and speedily spread viral microorganisms, such as COVID-19 and monkeypox virus, have aroused global concerns. Traditional methods of water purification and disinfection are inhibited due to the increased resistance of bacteria and viruses. Exploring new and effective antimicrobial materials and methods has important practical application value. This review is a comprehensive overview of recent progress in the following: (i) preparation methods of ZnO-based nanomaterials and comparison between methods; (ii) types of nanomaterials for photocatalytic antibacterials in water treatment; (iii) methods for studying the antimicrobial activities and (iv) mechanisms of ZnO-based antibacterials. Subsequently, the use of different doping strategies to enhance the photocatalytic antibacterial properties of ZnO-based nanomaterials is also emphatically discussed. Finally, future research and practical applications of ZnO-based nanomaterials for antibacterial activity are proposed.

Background: Eye-acupuncture (EA) is a fine-needle acupuncture therapy for systemic diseases. This bibliometric analysis aims to provide a comprehensive review of the characteristics of EA for ischemic or hemorrhagic apoplexy based on clinical studies. Methods: A total of 195 clinical studies from six databases such as CNKI, VIP, Wanfang Data, SinoMed, PubMed and the Cochrane Library from inception to December 31, 2017 were included. Bibliometric information mainly including study type, participant characteristics, intervention and comparison details, and outcomes were extracted. Data was analyzed descriptively using SPSS® software to determine their distribution (range, interquartile range) and central tendency (median). Results: The studies covered 108 RCTs, 36 controlled clinical trials, 45 case series and 6 case reports on EA for treatment of ischemic or hemorrhagic apoplexy, involved 15 466 stroke patients. EA was used at different stages of ischemic or hemorrhagic apoplexy: acute stage (n = 38), recovery (n = 32), sequela (n = 13) and unclear (n = 112). The most frequently used EA acupoints were in the upper-jiao and lower-jiao regions. The commonly used comparisons were EA alone versus traditional acupuncture, or EA plus traditional acupuncture versus traditional acupuncture. Neurological deficit scale, Modified Barthel Index, and activities of daily living were the most frequently used outcome measures. Conclusion: EA as an adjuvant therapy is effective and safe in treating stroke at acute and recovery stages, but high-quality RCTs are lacking. Global navigation services from the quad-constellation of GPS, GLONASS, BDS, and Galileo are now available. The international GNSS monitoring and assessment system (iGMAS) aims to evaluate the navigation performance of the current quad systems under a unified framework. In order to assess impact of orbit and clock errors on the positioning accuracy, the user range error (URE) is always taken as a metric by comparison with the precise products. Compared with the solutions from a single analysis center, the combined solutions derived from multiple analysis centers are characterized with robustness and reliability and preferred to be used as references to assess the performance of broadcast ephemerides. In this paper, the combination method of iGMAS orbit and clock products is described, and the performance of the combined solutions is evaluated by various means. There are different internal precisions of the combined orbit and clock for different constellations, which indicates that consistent weights should be assigned for individual constellations and analysis centers included in the combination. For BDS-3, Galileo, and GLONASS combined orbits of iGMAS, the root-mean-square error (RMSE) of 5 cm is achieved by satellite laser ranging (SLR) observations. Meanwhile, the SLR residuals are characterized with a linear pattern with respect to the position of the sun, which indicates that the solar radiation pressure (SRP) model adopted in precise orbit determination needs further improvement. The consistency between combined orbit and clock of quad-constellation is validated by precise point positioning (PPP), and the accuracies of simulated kinematic tests are 1.4, 1.2, and 2.9 cm for east, north, and up components, respectively.

As valuable landscape plants, hornbeams are extensively planted around the world, including in America, Britain, and France. However, in Asia, and China in particular, these trees still grow in natural habitats and rarely used for landscaping purposes. In this study, we examined differences in the ecological niches of two hornbeam species Carpinus viminea and C. londoniana, which are widely distributed in China and neighboring countries. On the basis of actual geographical coordinates, we used Maxent software to simulate distribution ranges of these two trees according to current suitable areas and used these data to predict their potential distributions in response to future climate change. Our findings provide a theoretical basis that will contribute in guiding the resource conservation, introduction and domestication, species identification, phylogeography, and landscape application of C. viminea and C. londoniana. Marine current energy as a kind of renewable energy has gradually attracted more and more attention from many countries. However, the blade imbalance fault of marine current turbines (MCTs) will have an effect on the power production efficiency and cause damage to the MCT system. It is hard to classify the severity of an MCT blade imbalance fault under the condition of the current instability and seafloor noise. This paper proposes a fault classification method based on the combination of variational mode decomposition denoising (VMD denoising) and screening linear discriminant analysis (S-LDA). The proposed method consists of three parts. Firstly, phase demodulation of the collected stator current signal is performed by the Hilbert transform (HT) method. Then, the obtained demodulation signal is denoised by variational mode decomposition denoising (VMD denoising), and the denoised signal is analyzed by power spectral density (PSD). Finally, S-LDA is employed on the power signal to determine the severities of fault classification. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by experimental results under different severities of blade imbalance fault. The stator current signatures of experiments with different severities of blade imbalance fault are used to validate the effectiveness of the proposed method. The fault classification accuracy is 92.04% based on the proposed method. Moreover, the experimental results verify that the influence of velocity fluctuation on fault classification can be eliminated.

Future climate change will have serious impacts on species survival and distribution and will likely lead to the extinction of some species classified as endangered. Carpinus tientaiensis (Betulaceae), a unique and endangered species in China, has restricted distribution and a small population, indicating an urgent need for its protection. However, research on its current distribution or the influence that climate change will have on its future survival and distribution is limited. We used a MaxEnt model and ArcGIS software to predict the current and future niches of C. tientaiensis. The current suitable distribution area of C. tientaiensis is small, mainly in east China, south Zhejiang and Anhui, and central and southern mountainous areas of Taiwan province. The core suitable areas are concentrated in the Xianxialing and Kuocang mountains in south Zhejiang, the southern mountains of Taiwan, and the Dabie, Huangshan and Jiuhua mountains in south Anhui. Among the 15 BIOCLIM variables examined, the precipitation of the driest quarter (bio17) was found to be the most important factor limiting C. tientaiensis survival and distribution. Future field investigations will focus on the Xianxialing and Kuocang mountains, as they may have unidentified wild C. tientaiensis communities. In the future, the Kuocang, Dapan and Tiantai mountains in east Zhejiang, and the high-altitude areas of Dabie and Jiuhua mountains in south Anhui, will be suitable for C. tientaiensis ex situ conservation and cultivation. However, the suitable distribution and core suitable areas for C. tientaiensis will decrease sharply as they are susceptible to climate shocks. Moreover, the suitable distribution area of C. tientaiensis is predicted to move slightly north and obviously eastward. Therefore, we suggest that strengthen conservation and management efforts for C. tientaiensis in its original habitats, and actively carry out ex situ conservation and artificial breeding in botanical gardens.

Bambusa pervariabilis McClure × Dendrocalamopsis grandis (Q.H.Dai & X.l.Tao ex Keng f.) Ohrnb. blight is a widespread and dangerous forest fungus disease, and has been listed as a supplementary object of forest phytosanitary measures. In order to study the control of B. pervariabilis × D. grandis blight, this experiment was carried out. In this work, a toxin purified from the pathogen Arthrinium phaeospermum (Corda) Elli, which causes blight in B. pervariabilis × D. grandis, with homologous heterogeneity, was used as an inducer to increase resistance to B. pervariabilis × D. grandis. A functional analysis of the differentially expressed proteins after induction using a tandem mass tag labeling technique was combined with mass spectrometry and liquid chromatography mass spectrometry in order to effectively screen for the proteins related to the resistance of B. pervariabilis × D. grandis to blight. After peptide labeling, a total of 3320 unique peptides and 1791 quantitative proteins were obtained by liquid chromatography mass spectrometry analysis. Annotation and enrichment analysis of these peptides and proteins using the Gene ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes databases with bioinformatics software show that the differentially expressed protein functional annotation items are mainly concentrated on biological processes and cell components. Several pathways that are prominent in the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes annotation and enrichment include metabolic pathways, the citrate cycle, and phenylpropanoid biosynthesis. In the Protein-protein interaction networks four differentially expressed proteins-sucrose synthase, adenosine triphosphate-citrate synthase beta chain protein 1, peroxidase, and phenylalanine ammonia-lyase significantly interact with multiple proteins and significantly enrich metabolic pathways. To verify the results of tandem mass tag, the candidate proteins were further verified by parallel reaction monitoring, and the results were consistent with the tandem mass tag data analysis results. It is confirmed that the data obtained by tandem mass tag technology are reliable. Therefore, the differentially expressed proteins and signaling pathways discovered here is the primary concern for subsequent disease resistance studies.

The current traffic signal light timing scheme cannot effectively solve the problem of traffic congestion. This paper studied the intelligent control of signal lights based on infrared sensors. Firstly, the traffic flow was detected by infrared sensors; then, the future traffic flow was predicted using a back-propagation neural network; an intelligent control algorithm was designed based on the prediction results, and data were collected at the actual intersection for simulation experiments. It was found that the maximum and minimum root-mean-square error (RMSE) value of the BPNN prediction were 72.33 and 45.77, respectively, i.e., BPNN could predict the traffic flow accurately. Then, in the comparison of timing schemes, the maximum average queuing delay time of the BPNN was 0.55 s, and the maximum average queuing length was 92 m in the case of large traffic flow, both of which were better than the traditional fixed timing scheme. The results prove the reliability of the proposed signal light intelligent control algorithm. The algorithm can be further applied in practice. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
