Abstract Crossbar resistive memory architectures enable high-capacity storage and neuromorphic computing, accurate retrieval of the stored information is a prerequisite during read operation. However, conventional electrical readout normally suffer from complicated process, inaccurate and destructive reading due to crosstalk effect from sneak path current. Here we report a memristive-photoconductive transduction (MPT) methodology for precise and nondestructive readout in a memristive crossbar array. The individual devices present dynamic filament form/fuse for resistance modulation under electric stimulation, which leads to photogenerated carrier transport for tunable photoconductive response under subsequently light pulse stimuli. This coherent signal transduction can be used to directly detect the memorized on/off states stored in each cell, and a prototype 4 * 4 crossbar memories has been constructed and validated for the fidelity of crosstalk-free readout in recall process.

ABSTRACT: Dietary energy density influences feed intake (FI) and development of layer-type pullets. A total of 384 nine-wk-old Hy-Line Brown pullets were randomly assigned to one of 3 dietary treatments: fed a diet with 2,600, 2,750, and 2,900 Kcal metabolizable energy/kg (ME/kg) from 10 to 21 wk of age. The results showed that the 2,900 and 2,600 ME groups had lower feed and ME intake (P < 0.01) from 10 to 21 wk of age. The 2,600 ME pullets had heavier body weight (BW) and longer shank length (P < 0.05) at 21 wk of age than the 2,750 ME group. The eggshell percentage was increased by the 2,600 and 2,900 kcal/kg treatments (P = 0.002). Serum concentration of 17-β-estradiol (E2), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), and luteinizing hormone (LH) decreased at 70 wk of age (P < 0.05). Pullet diet and its interaction with age had a significant influence (P < 0.001) on the expression of gonadotropin-releasing hormone 1 (GnRH-1) and gonadotropin-inhibitory hormone (GnIH) in the hypothalamus and of gonadotropin releasing hormone 1 receptor (GnRH-1R) and gonadotropin-inhibitory hormone receptor (GnIHR) in the pituitary. In the hypothalamus, GnRH-1 expression increased from 9 to 40 wk of age and then decreased; however, GnIH expression was highest at 70 wk of age. Follicle-stimulating hormone receptor (FSHR) expression increased (P < 0.001) at wk 40 and decreased at wk 70 compared to wk 21 at various follicular stages. In conclusion, the energy level of pullet diet had no unfavorable influence on feed intake, laying rate, egg mass, and FCR, whereas change egg weight and mortality during the laying period from 21 to 70 wk of age. during the laying period. These results suggest that pullet dietary energy can activate the expression of genes related to reproduction in the hypothalamus, whereas it plays a minor role in the regulation of genes in the pituitary and ovary. Age-induced gene expression in the hypothalamus-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis is associated with laying performance in hens.

In low-power electronics, there is a substantial demand for high-performance p-type oxide thin-film transistors (TFTs) that are capable of efficient operation at low voltages. In this study, we employ anodization to form an aluminum oxide gate dielectric layer, enabling the fabrication of p-type tin oxide (SnO) TFTs that effectively operate at a low voltage of 1 V. Under optimal device fabrication conditions, the SnO TFT demonstrates an on/off current ratio exceeding 103 and a saturation mobility of 1.94 cm2 V−1 s−1 at 1 V operation. The optimal SnO TFT fabrication conditions are subsequently used to fabricate a complementary inverter, comprising a SnO TFT and an n-type indium gallium zinc oxide TFT, achieving a gain of up to 38 at a 1 V supply voltage. Notably, the inverter’s switching point voltage is finely tuned to the ideal value, precisely half of the supply voltage. This oxide-based complementary inverter showcases promising potential in low-power electronics.

Temperature and dissolved oxygen (DO) are important biological environmental factors for aquatic animal. The sea cucumber Apostichopus japonicus was an important aquaculture species in China, which was highly impacted by temperature and DO. In the present study, the transcriptomics expression profiles under high temperature (HT), hypoxia (LO), and these combined stressors (HL) were investigated by RNA-seq technique. Compared with the control group, 275, 409 and 434 differential expressed genes (DEGs) were detected in HT, LO and HL groups respectively. Further analysis of KEGG pathways revealed that “protein processing in endoplasmic reticulum” pathway was significantly enriched in both HT vs C and HL vs C comparisons. Protein folding-related genes in this pathway, such as HSPs, were up-regulated in the two comparisons. In LO vs C comparison, “fatty acid metabolism” pathway was significantly enriched, and genes related to de novo biogenesis of fatty acids was significantly down-regulated. Some genes related to anti-apoptosis, such as BCL-2 and BAG3, were up-regulated in HL vs C comparison, which revealed that the combined stress threatened the survival of cells. The present research provided new insights for the response to different stressful environments in A. japonicus.

The magmatic rocks of the Ben Giang-Que Son complex exposed in the southern part of the Truong Son belt have petrographic compositions including gabbro, gabbrodiorite, granodiorite, and granite. Geochemically, the magmatic rocks are of subalkaline affinity and belong to the high-K calc-alkaline series. All analyzed samples contain hornblende and biotite as mafic minerals and are defined as metaluminous with a aluminum saturation index of 87Sr/86Sr (0.7084 to 0.7147), ꜪNd(t) (−0.5 to −1.9), and positive ꜪHf(t) (+2.4 to 4.5), suggesting generation from the enriched mantle source. The BG-QS diorite and granodiorite contain small mafic enclaves, have a wide range of SiO2 contents and enrichment in Sr-Nd isotopes (87Sr/86Sr = 0.7109–0.7178; ꜪNd(t) = −3.3 to −3.7), and display high Mg# (43–51). All these features indicate that they were formed by the mixing of magmas, which originated from an enriched mantle source and the pre-existing juvenile mafic lower crust. The whole-rock Nd and zircon Hf model ages are of 1160–760 Ma. The Ben Giang-Que Son complex yields LA-ICP-MS zircon U-Pb ages of 285 ± 3.1 and 278 ± 3.5 Ma that corresponds to the Cisuralian epoch (early Permian), which is linked to the subduction and amalgamation of the Indochina and South China blocks due to the closing a branch of the Paleotethys along the Song Ma suture.

The water-soluble thermoplastic polyimide sizing agent was synthesized from bisphe- nol A-type diether diether dianhydride (BPADA), m-phenylenediamine and 4, 4′-(1, 3-phenylenedioxy) dianiline (TPE-R). The surface of domestic high-strength and high-modulus carbon fiber (HMCF) was sized and prepared into composite material. The effects of molar ratios of different monomers on the characteristics of the sizing agent and the surface structure properties of the fibers after sizing treatment were studied, and the effects of thermoplastic sizing agents on the interfacial properties of domestic high-strength and high-modulus carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic polyetherketone (PEKK) resin matrix composites were further analyzed. The results show that when the monomer molar ratio of BPADA to TPE-R is 1∶1, the synthesized thermoplastic sizing agent not only has a uniform molecular weight distribution, but also has excellent thermal stability, e.g. its thermal weight loss is only 5% with the temperature up to 554 ℃. After sizing, the surface O/C ratio is increased from 0.08 to 0.18 (increased by 125%). Besides, the fiber strength is slightly increased and the modulus is almost unchanged. More importantly, the interfacial performance of the composites is significantly improved after sizing treatment, and the interlaminar shear strength of the HMCF/PEKK composites can be improved from 38.5 MPa to a maximum of 59.4 MPa with an increase of up to 54.3%.

The toxicity sites and toxicity mechanism of aflatoxin B1（AFB1） were explored in this study, and aiming at the toxicity sites of AFB1, the advantages of microbial degradation of AFB1 were compared. Then the degradation mechanism of AFB1 by detoxifying enzyme method in microbial method was reviewed. Moreover, the composite application of detoxification enzyme method combined with other methods is prospected.

Background Preeclampsia (PE) is a serious pregnancy complication, resulting in potentially life-threatening conditions for both mother and foetus. It is worth noting that early-onset PE has become a great challenge for clinicians due to its complex manifestation, rapid progression and serious complications. This study aims to investigate differential serum proteome profiles in patients with early-onset PE. Methods Each serum sample was separated using a nanoliter flow rate Easy-nLC chromatography system. Then the samples were analysed by mass spectrometry. Bioinformatics analyses were conducted to analyse the functional categories or signal transduction pathways for differentially abundant proteins. Key proteins identified by mass spectrometry were verified by ELISA. Results We found 30 and 34 proteins were upregulated and downregulated in early-onset PE patients (n = 3) vs controls (n = 3), respectively. Functional enrichment analysis revealed differentially expressed proteins related to the immune response and regulation of peptidase activity. Abstract Solar‐blind photodetectors have attracted extensive attention due to their advantages such as ultra‐low background noise and all‐weather. In this study, the planar Ti/Ga2O3/Au Schottky avalanche photodetector (APD) is fabricated based on β‐Ga2O3 epitaxial film on the sapphire substrate grown by metal–organic chemical vapor deposition. The Schottky APD exhibits a high responsivity of 9780.23 A W−1, an ultrahigh photo‐to‐dark current ratio of 1.88 × 107, an external quantum efficiency of 4.77 × 106%, a specific detectivity of 9.48 × 1014 Jones, with an ultrahigh gain of 1 × 106 under 254 nm light illumination at 60 V reverse bias, indicating high application potential for solar‐blind imaging. The superior photoresponse performances ascribe to the effective carrier avalanche multiplication, which contributes to the high photocurrent, and the high quality Schottky junction depletion, which leads to the low dark current.

Abstract. Background:. The clinical characteristics of patients with the comorbidities of hypertension and coronary artery disease (HT-CAD) and atrial fibrillation (AF) are largely unknown. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of AF in patients with HT-CAD and clinical characteristics of patients with both HT-CAD and AF. Methods:. This cross-sectional study was conducted in Chinese People's Liberation Army General Hospital in Beijing, China, and included 20,747 inpatients with HT-CAD with or without AF from August 2008 to July 2018. We examined the overall prevalence, clinical characteristics, comorbidity profiles, treatment patterns, and blood pressure (BP) control of patients with both HT-CAD and AF. Multivariate logistic regression was used to investigate the associations of cardiovascular risk factors with AF in patients with HT-CAD. Results:. The activation of the monocyte-macrophage system and the damage to the renal and pancreatic tissue are common complications in patients with diabetes induced by hyper-glycemia. This study aimed to evaluate the effect and mechanism of butyrate (NaB), a metabolite of intestinal flora, on inhibiting the inflammatory response of human monocyte-macrophages (THP-1 cells) induced by high glucose and the damage of pancreatic and renal tissue in diabetic mice. The results showed that high concentration glucose significantly up-regulated the expressions of IL-1β, TNF-α, and NLRP3 in THP-1 cells and mouse spleen, and that NaB could inhibit the overexpression of those genes. The abundance of Beclin-1, LC3B and reactive oxygen species (ROS) in THP-1 cells is increased due to the high glucose concentration, and NaB can inhibit the genes responsible for upregulating the expression. In diabetic mice, vacuolar degeneration of renal tubules was observed. Then we observed that some of the epithelial cells of the renal tubules were exfoliated and some formed tubules. NaB could alleviate these pathological lesions, but NaB cannot alleviate pancreatic injury. Our results indicated that NaB could be used for the prevention and adjuvant treatment of diabetic kidney injury.

The association between the magnetic properties of lake sediments and heavy metal(loid)s (HMs) is well-documented; however, their correlation with the chemical fractions of HMs remains under-investigated. Developing a robust workflow for predicting HMs risk utilizing various machine learning techniques in conjunction with magnetic analysis presents a complex challenge. This study assessed the predictive efficacy of nine machine learning models for determining the chemical fractions of HMs, employing magnetic parameters derived from sediment cores in a large, shallow lake. These models encompassed random forest, support vector machine, relevance vector machine, extreme gradient boosting, principal component regression, multivariate adaptive regression splines, gradient boosting with component-wise linear models, and lasso and elastic-net regularized generalized linear models. The support vector machine model demonstrated superior performance, achieving coefficient of determination values surpassing 0.8 in both training and testing phases. Through interpretable machine learning approaches, key drivers of HMs were identified among magnetic and physicochemical indicators. Magnetic susceptibility values, high coercivity remanent magnetization, ratios of anhysteretic remanent magnetization to magnetic susceptibility, and anhysteretic remanent magnetization to saturation isothermal remanent magnetization within specific ranges exhibited a positive correlation with Cd, Hg, and Sb. This research significantly advances our understanding of HMs risk assessment in lake sediments by leveraging accessible magnetic measurements within an interpretable machine learning framework.

Aim: This study assessed the cost–utility of mogamulizumab, a novel monoclonal antibody, versus established clinical management (ECM) in UK patients in previously treated advanced mycosis fungoides (MF)/S ´ ezary syndrome (SS). Materials & methods: Lifetime partitioned survival model based on overall survival, next treatment-free survival and the use of allogeneic stem cell transplant was developed. Inputs were from the pivotal MAVORIC trial, real-world evidence and published literature. Extensive sensitivity analyses were conducted. Results: Discounted incremental quality-adjusted life years (QALYs), costs and incremental cost–effectiveness ratio were 3.08, £86,998 and £28,233. Results were most sensitive to the survival extrapolations, utilities and costs after loss of disease control. Conclusion: Mogamulizumab is a cost-effective alternative to ECM in UK patients with previously treated advanced MF/SS.

Abstract Background The aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) is a critical regulator of the pathogenesis of autoimmune disorders. We aimed to investigate the therapeutic effect of the AhR agonist tapinarof during the development of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Methods MRL/lpr mice were intraperitoneally injected with 1 or 5 mg/kg tapinarof for 6 weeks. Kidney histopathology was evaluated using hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) and Periodic‐Acid‐Schiff (PAS) staining. Immunofluorescence microscopy was performed to detect immune complex renal depositions. Flow cytometry (FCM) analysis was carried out to determine the proportions of T and B cell subsets. Realtime qPCR was used to quantify the expression of Tfh cell‐associated genes. We conducted an in vitro polarization experiment to observe the effect of tapinarof on Tfh differentiation. Western blotting was used to detect the expression of target proteins. Results We found that tapinarof treatment ameliorated lupus phenotypes, including splenomegaly, lymph node enlargement, kidney damages, immune complex deposition, and excessive secretion of antibodies. Additionally, we showed that Treg subpopulation frequencies significantly increased in MRL/lpr mice treated with tapinarof, while the proportion of Th1/Th2 cells was reduced after tapinarof administration. Moreover, tapinarof suppressed Tfh cell differentiation and germinal center (GC) reaction in vivo. The inhibitory effect of tapinarof on Tfh cells was further verified in the in vitro Tfh cell polarization experiment. Realtime qPCR revealed that tapinarof repressed the expression of Tfh signature genes. Mechanistically, tapinarof significantly inhibited the phosphorylation levels of JAK2 and STAT3. The capacity for Tfh differentiation was partially rescued by the STAT3 activator Colivelin TFA. Furthermore, our in vitro Tfh polarization experiments indicated that tapinarof suppressed Tfh cell development in SLE. Conclusions Our data demonstrated that tapinarof modulated the JAK2‐STAT3 pathway to suppress Tfh cell differentiation for the treatment of lupus symptoms in MRL/lpr mice.

Abstract Background 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) is a used chemotherapy drug for cancer, and its main side effect is intestinal mucositis which causes chemotherapy to fail. It was known that short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) can inhibit immune cell release of various proinflammatory factors and inhibit excessive intestinal inflammation. However, the inhibitory effect of SCFAs on 5-FU-induced intestinal mucositis is still unclear. Results To simulate the effects of SCFAs on immune and intestinal epithelial cells, the cells (THP-1 cells and Caco-2 cells) were pretreated with sodium acetate (NaAc), sodium propionate (NaPc) and sodium butyrate (NaB), then inflammation was induced by 5-FU. The expressions of reactive oxygen species (ROS), Beclin-1, LC3-II, NF-κB p65, NLRP3 inflammasome, proinflammatory/anti-inflammatory cytokines and mucosal tight junction proteins were determined. In our results, the three SCFAs could inhibit ROS expressions, NLRP3, Caspase-1, IL-1β, IL-6, IL-18, Beclin-1 and LC3-II, when induced by 5-FU. In a 5-FU-induced chemoentermuctis mouse model, Lactobacillus rhamnoides can increase the concentrations of three SCFAs in faeces and increase the concentrations of IL-1β, IL-6 and IgA in serum, and decrease the expressions of NLRP3 and IL-17 in spleen cells. The expressions of ZO-1 and Occludin in intestinal mucosa were significantly increased. Conclusions These results indicated that the three SCFAs can effectively suppress the inflammation of THP-1 cells and Caco-2 cells and maintain tight junction integrity in intestinal mucosal epithelial cells.

Abstract Fabricating a heterojunction photodetector is efficient to take advantage of the built‐in electric field formed by heterojunction and thus improve the performance of photodetector. Herein, a CuZnS/Ga2O3 type‐II heterojunction photodetector is designed and constructed by chemical bath deposition for the first time. The photodetector exhibits super high rectifying characteristics (5.7 × 104 at ± 1 V), high responsivity (48.01 mA W−1 at 0 V), and detectivity (1.83 × 1012 Jones at 0 V), which are higher than most of the reported inorganic devices as far as the authors know. Benefiting from built‐in electric field constructed by the CuZnS/Ga2O3 type‐II heterojunction, the photo‐induced electron and hole pairs are quickly separated by the built‐in electric field between the Ga2O3 and the CuZnS interface. Therefore, the photodetector constructed by CuZnS/Ga2O3 type‐II heterojunction shows a prominent self‐powered performance. At zero bias, the photodetector shows a fast photoresponse (rise time τr = 70 ms, decay time τd = 10 ms). These data of performance are significantly excellent to most of the reported Ga2O3 heterojunction photodetectors. These performances strongly suggest that the CuZnS/Ga2O3 photodetector has great potential in ultra‐high performance self‐powered solar‐blind photodetector.

Ligustrazine is a Chinese herb (Chuanxiong) approved for use as a medical drug in China. Recent evidence suggests that ligustrazine has promising antitumor properties. Our preliminary results showed that ligustrazine could inhibit the growth of human renal cell carcinoma (RCC) cell lines. However, the complicated molecular mechanism has not been fully revealed. Therefore, the purpose of this study to investigate the mechanism of ligustrazine resistance in human RCC cells. Cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and colony-formation ability of RCC cells A498 were detected by MTT assay, clonal formation rates, and transwell chamber assay in vitro. The expression of epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT)–related proteins were analyzed using western blot test. The effect of ligustrazine on the growth of A498 cells in nude mice was investigated in vivo. Our results showed that ligustrazine could significantly inhibit the proliferation, migration, and invasion of A498 both in vivo and vitro. Western blot analysis showed that the expressions of EMT-related, N-cadherin, snail, and slug proteins were significantly decreased in A498 in the ligustrazine treatment group. This study indicated that ligustrazine could significantly inhibit the malignant biological behaviors of RCC cell lines, possibly by inhibiting the EMT process.

The purpose of this study was to explore the regulatory mechanism of Annexin A1 (ANXA1) in glioma cells in the inflammatory microenvironment induced by tumour necrosis factor α (TNF-α) and its effects on glioma cell proliferation. CCK-8 analysis demonstrated that TNF-α stimulation promotes rapid growth in glioma cells. Changes in tumour necrosis factor receptor 1 (TNFR1) and ANXA1 expression in glioma cells stimulated with TNF-α were revealed through western blot analysis and immunofluorescence staining. Coimmunoprecipitation analysis revealed that ANXA1 interacts with TNFR1. Moreover, we found that ANXA1 promotes glioma cell growth by activating the p65 and Akt signalling pathways. Finally, immunohistochemistry analysis showed an obvious correlation between ANXA1 expression and Ki-67 in glioma tissues. In summary, our results indicate that the TNF-α/TNFR1/ANXA1 axis regulates the proliferation of glioma cells and that ANXA1 plays a regulatory role in the inflammatory microenvironment.

Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a chronic disease characterized by a progressive elevation in mean pulmonary arterial pressure. This occurs due to abnormal remodeling of small peripheral lung vasculature resulting in progressive occlusion of the artery lumen that eventually causes right heart failure and death. Current therapeutic options for PAH are limited and focused mainly on reversal of pulmonary vasoconstriction and proliferation of vascular cells. Although these treatments can relieve disease symptoms, PAH remains a progressive lethal disease. Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) and their receptors were required for PAH-induced right ventricular hypertrophy. Emerging data suggest that restoration of BMP type II receptor (BMPR2) signaling in PAH is a promising alternative that could prevent and reverse pulmonary vascular remodeling. BMPR2 mutations have been identified in >70% of familial and roughly 15% of sporadic PAH cases. Wingless (Wnt) are a family of secreted glycoproteins with varying expression patterns and a range of functions, Wnt signaling pathway is divided into canonical signaling pathway and non-canonical signaling pathway. A recent study reports that interaction between BMP and Wnt closely associated with lung development, those cascade coordination regulation stem cell fate which determine lung branching morphogenes. The promoting effect of BMPR2 on proliferation, survival, and motility of endothelial cells was through recruiting Wnts signaling pathway, the interaction between BMP and Wnt closely associated with lung development. Therefore, in this review, we outline the latest advances of BMP and Wnt signaling pathway in the pathogenesis of PAH and disease progression.

ObjectivesPrevious studies have confirmed the relations between inter-arm systolic blood pressure difference (IASBPD) and carotid artery plaque with the risk of cardiovascular diseases (CVD). But it is unclear whether the combined effect of IASBPD and carotid artery plaque further increases the risk of CVD and all-cause mortality.Materials and methodsWe enrolled 4,970 participants (≥40 years old) in the prospective Kailuan study. All participants underwent dual-arm blood pressure and carotid artery ultrasounds. IASBPD was the absolute value of the difference between dual-arm blood pressure. All the participants were divided into four groups according to their IASBPD levels and the presence or absence of carotid artery plaque and Cox proportional hazards models were used to calculate the hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence interval (CI) for incident CVD and all-cause mortality.ResultsDuring a median follow-up of 7 years, 179 CVD events and 266 deaths occurred. Multivariable Cox Regression showed that participants with IASBPD ≥ 10 mmHg and plaque had a significantly higher incidence of CVD, cerebral infarction (CI), and myocardial infarction (10, 7.27, and 1.36%, respectively). After adjusting for covariates, the IASBPD ≥ 10 mmHg and carotid plaque group significantly increased risks for CVD (HR 2.38; 95% CI, 1.40∼4.05), CI (HR, 2.47; 95% CI, 1.31∼4.67), and all-cause mortality (HR, 2.08; 95% CI, 1.20∼3.59).ConclusionOur study indicated that the combination of IASBPD and carotid artery plaque was associated with incident CVD and all-cause mortality.

Zinc ash is a serious defect of hot-dip galvanized process and has great impact on products with high surface level requirements. During galvanizing process, the zinc ash formed by the oxidation of zinc vapor in a furnace snout was easy to adhere to the surface of strip steel, influencing the surface quality of the coating. At present, the effective control measures were to control the dew point by humidifying the furnace snout. If the dew point of the furnace snout was too high or too low, it would produce defects. In this paper, the control methods of selecting the appropriate dew point by controlling the process parameters such as pressure and flow were expounded according to the existing working conditions.

Background: Low-risk individuals are unlikely to benefit from noninvasive testing, and women tend to have a lower prevalence of coronary artery disease (CAD). This study compared the performance of two current guidelines that differ by sex to assess sa'q's't chest pain outpatients, including symptom-based (2016 National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, NICE) and risk-based strategies (2019 European Society of Cardiology, ESC). Methods: A total of 542 outpatients referred for coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) at a single-centre were retrospectively included in this study. A risk assessment was calculated for each outpatient according to the two guidelines. Patients were classified into low and high-risk groups according to each strategy. The presence of coronary artery disease was the endpoint. Net reclassification improvement (NRI) was used to assess the performance of the two strategies. Results: The prevalence of CAD was 27%. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value and negative predictive value for ESC and NICE were 90.4%, 54.3%, 42.2%, 93.9% and 78.8%, 35.6%, 31.1% and 82.0% respectively. Compare to NICE, the NRI for ESC were 30.32%. The ESC guidelines classified 55.56% of women and 28.14% of men into the low-risk group. The ESC guidelines had a higher predictive value for coronary artery disease compared to the NICE guidelines, with a positive NRI in men (15.55%) and women (34.46%) respectively. Conclusions: The ESC guidelines offered a more accurate calculation of risk assessment than the NICE guidelines. Patient sex influenced applying the recent ESC guidelines, which would result in a significant decrease in inappropriate testing of women but an increase in appropriate noninvasive testing of men.

ABSTRACT: The present study was designed to investigate whether L-arginine (Arg) supplementation would influence the production performance and reproductive traits of laying hens fed low crude protein (LCP) diets. Hy-Line brown laying hens were randomly assigned to dietary treatments of control, LCP, and LCP supplemented with 0.05, 0.10, 0.15, or 0.20% Arg for 7 wk. The results showed no significant variations on the production performance, and relative organ indexes of hens. However, significant transcriptional and structural changes were evident along the HPG axis of hens. Arg supplementation linearly upregulated (P < 0.05) the gonadotropin-releasing hormone 1 (GnRH1), and gonadotropin inhibitory hormone in the hypothalamus. The pituitary growth hormone, GnRH receptor, and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSHβ) were also increased (P < 0.05). In the ovary, GnRH1, and estrogen receptor β were linearly increased by Arg, and the ovarian morphology revealed that LCP induced structural alterations which were minimally recovered by Arg supplementation. Serum insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) and nitric oxide (NO) were increased (P < 0.05) at higher levels of Arg supplementation. Therefore, supplementing high Arg (0.20%) to LCP hens influenced the ovarian morphology and modulated the gene expression of reproductive hormones in the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis of laying hens via actions that may be related to NO and IGF-1 activity.

Nutrition during the pre-lay period takes effect on the production performance in the laying flock. This study evaluated the effects of dietary energy and protein levels in pre-lay diet on performance during the whole laying period and the egg quality, bone quality, and mRNA expression of hypothalamus-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis-related genes of hens at the end of the laying cycle. A total of 1,856 15-wk old Hy-Line brown pullets were randomly assigned to one of the four dietary treatments: using a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement with 2 energy levels (2,700 and 2,800 kcal/kg ME, respectively) and 2 protein levels (15 and 16.5% CP, respectively). Pullets were fed ad libitum from 15 to 20 wk and from 20 wk onward, fed with a similar laying diet till 72 wk of age. At 72 wk, the expression of genes in the hypothalamus, pituitary, ovarian, and follicles and bone quality was evaluated. At 72wk, there were no differences in production performance, BW, organ index, and ovarian parameters among the dietary treatments. High-CP diet increased the egg shape index and eggshell thickness (p < 0.05), but the eggshell breaking strength, Haugh unit, and albumen height did not differ among the treatments. Neither dietary energy nor protein level took an effect of bone quality. Low-energy diet increased the mRNA expression of gonadotropin-releasing hormone-1 (GnRH-1) in the hypothalamus (p < 0.05). The mRNA expression level of estrogen receptor-1 (ESR-1) in the hypothalamus and ovary was elevated by the 2,700 ME-15%CP diet (p < 0.05). The expression of cytochrome family 17 subfamily A polypeptide 1 (CYP17A1) in the large white follicle (LWF), small yellow follicles (SYF) and dominant follicle (DF) was decreased by the 2,800 kcal/kg diet (p < 0.05). These results indicate that the prelay diet had no influence on the production performance but had minimal effect on the eggshell characteristics and bone parameters. These results suggest that the energy and protein level of the prelay diet changes the expression of HPG axis-related genes of hens around the end of the laying cycle without changing the circulating sex hormone profile. The effect of prelay diet on the endocrinal adjustment at the end of the laying cycle needs to be investigated further.

Abstract Due to the unique structure, carbon nanomaterials could convert near‐infrared (NIR) light into heat efficiently in tumor ablation using photothermal therapy (PTT). Carbon nanoparticles suspension injection (CNSI) is a commercial imaging reagent for lymph node mapping. CNSI has similar structural characteristics to other carbon nanomaterials, and thus, might be applied as photothermal agent. Herein, we evaluated the photothermal conversion ability and therapeutic effects of CNSI on thyroid carcinoma. CNSI was composed by carbon nanoparticle cores and polyvinylpyrrolidone K30 as the dispersion reagent. CNSI absorbed NIR light efficiently following the Lambert‐Beer law. The temperature of CNSI dispersion increased quickly under the NIR irradiation. CNSI killed the TCP‐1 thyroid carcinoma cells under 808 nm laser irradiation at 0.5 W/cm2, while CNSI or NIR irradiation treatment alone did not demonstrate this effect. Temperature increases were observed in tumor injected with CNSI under NIR irradiation. After three irradiation treatments, the tumor growth was completely blocked and the disruption of cellular structure was observed. When the tumor temperatures reached 53°C during treatment, the tumors did not recur within the observation period of 3 months. Our results suggested that CNSI might be used for PTT through “off label” use to benefit the patients immediately.

Abstract Background Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a life-threatening disease characterized by pulmonary vascular remodeling, right ventricular hypertrophy and failure. So far no effective treatment exists for this disease; hence, novel approaches are urgently needed. The aim of the present research was to observe the treatment effect of mesenchymal stromal cell derived exosomes and reveal the mechanism. Methods Monocrotaline (MCT)-induced PH in rats and hypoxia-induced cell damage model were established, respectively. Exosomes derived from the supernatant of human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (MSC-exo) were injected into MCT-PH model rat or added into the cells cultured medium. Immunohistochemistry, quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and western blot methods were used in vivo and vitro. Results The results showed that MSC-exo could significantly attenuate right ventricular (RV) hypertrophy and pulmonary vascular remodelling in MCT-PH rats. In the cell culture experiments, we found that MSC-exo could significantly inhibit hypoxia-induced pulmonary arterial endothelial cell (PAEC) apoptosis and pulmonary arterial smooth muscle cells (PASMC) proliferation. Furthermore, the pulmonary arterioles endothelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EndMT) was obviously suppressed. Moreover, the present study suggest that MSC-exo can significantly upregulate the expression of Wnt5a in MCT-PH rats and hypoxic pulmonary vascular cells. Furthermore, with Wnt5a gene silencing, the therapeutic effect of MSC-exo against hypoxia injury was restrained. Conclusions Synthetically, our data provide a strong evidence for the therapeutic of MSC-exo on PH, more importantly, we confirmed that the mechanism was associated with up-regulation of the expression of Wnt5a. These results offer a theoretical basis for clinical prevention and treatment of PH.

In order to study the shear-flow coupling characteristics of joints under constant normal stiffness (CNS) boundary condition, the shear-flow coupling tests under three different stiffness and seepage pressure settings were carried out for duplicate joint specimens with three different joint roughnesses. Meanwhile, the effects of normal stiffness, seepage pressure and joint roughness on the mechanical properties and seepage characteristics in joint shearing process were systematically analyzed. The test results indicate that the peak shear strength of joint increases with the increasing of normal stiffness, while the flow rate, equivalent hydraulic aperture and transmissivity decrease with the increasing of normal stiffness; and the flow rate of seepage through joint surfaces decreases during shearing process with the increasing of joint roughness. Similar to the three-stage change rule of joint dilatancy, three distinct stages are also observed for the flow rate, equivalent hydraulic aperture and transmissivity: rapid growth stage, slow growth stage, and stable stage. During the stable stage, the flow rate has approximately a linear relation with the variations of the normal stiffness and seepage pressure. The joints with higher roughness present lower flow rate as the seepage pressure increases.

In recent years, the etiology of periodontitis has tended to be based on the theory of flora imbalance. That is, periodontitis is not caused by specific bacteria but by the breakdown of the oral flora balance, which leads to an immune imbalance. Imbalanced bacterial flora cooperate with each other to produce virulent factors that destroy organism tissues and induce immune cells to produce abnormal levels of cytokines, causing greater damage. This article reviews the initiation of a flora imbalance, the interaction between bacteria, the immune damage of the host and the prevention and treatment of the flora imbalance. The literature review shows that peroxidase released by inflammatory reactions, host immune responses to pathogenic microorganisms and some systemic factors, such as diabetes, can trigger flora imbalance. As a result, ion transport, substance synthesis and metabolism of bacteria change; virulence factors increase; and the oral flora balance is disrupted. Red complex bacteria enter gingival epithelial cells, produce adhesin, and selectively inhibit the expression of specific chemokines, which is beneficial for other pathogenic bacteria to enter gingival epithelial cells. Toxicity factors increase throughout the body, directly destroying body tissues and inducing innate and adaptive immune responses, thus causing related immune damage. The dysbacteriosis model of periodontitis provides a new idea for the prevention and treatment of periodontitis, such as using biological factors, bacteriophages, probiotics and other methods to reduce the number of periodontal pathogens to restore the steady state of periodontal flora.

In this study, dustfall samples were systematically collected in various regions of Shanghai before and after the occurrence of COVID-19 in December 2019 and December 2020. The magnetic response, content and pollution status of relevant heavy metal elements in the samples were analyzed using environmental magnetism, geochemistry, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and the enrichment factor (EF) method. The results show that the magnetic particles in the dustfall samples are mainly pseudo-single-domain (PSD) and multi-domain (MD) ferrimagnetic minerals, and Fe, Zn, Cr, and Cu are mainly concentrated in the districts with intensive human activities. Due to restrictions on human activities following the COVID-19 epidemic, both the values of magnetic parameters and the heavy metal pollution level in 2019 are more significant than those in 2020, which is consistent with the Air Quality Index (AQI) results. In addition, magnetic susceptibility (χlf), non-hysteresis remanence (χARM) and saturation isothermal remanence (SIRM) have different degrees of correlation with heavy metal elements, and the correlations with Fe, Pb, Cr and Zn are extremely prominent. The magnetic parameters can effectively and quickly reflect the level of particulate matter pollution, making them a useful tool for monitoring urban air quality.

ABSTRACT: Calcium (Ca) and phosphorus (P) transporters are responsible for their absorption and transport in small intestine and kidney, contributing to eggshell formation. The light-dark cycle is a primary cue in the reproduction of laying hen. In this study, we investigated the effect of different light-dark programs on eggshell quality and the expression of genes related to Ca and P transportation in laying hens. Seventy-two 56-week-old laying hens were randomly divided into two groups and reared at 16-h light and 8-h dark (control) or 9-h light and 15-h dark regime (long dark phase, LDP). The expressions of calcium transporter calbindin-D28k (CaBP-D28k), plasma membrane Ca ATPase 1b (PMCA1b), and phosphorus transporter NaPi-IIb (NPt2b) and NaPi-IIa (NPt2a) were measured in the small intestine, kidney, and eggshell gland. The results showed that feed intake (P < 0.001) and egg weight (P = 0.05) were decreased by LDP treatment. Compared with control, the eggshell hardness was increased (P = 0.011) by LDP treatment, but the eggshell thickness and the percentage of eggshell were not changed. The Ca and P contents in eggshell were increased by LDP treatment. During the scotophase, LDP-hens showed higher serum Ca (P = 0.0056) and P levels (P = 0.079) but lower alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity than that of control hens. In the duodenum, the relative higher expression of CaBP-D28k and PMCA1b in scotophase compared to photophase was masked by LDP treatment. The expression of CaBP-D28k and osteopontin (OPN) in the eggshell gland were increased by LDP treatment, compared to control hens. In the jejunum, the protein expression levels of CaBP-D28k and PMCA1b decreased during photophase in LDP-hens. The result indicates that the increased blood Ca and P concentration during scotophase by LPD treatment is beneficial to the deposition of Ca and P in the eggshell. The result offers an alternative strategy for managing laying hens with poor eggshell quality.

The investigations of the molecular components of eye development and phototransduction in deep-sea species are important to elucidate the mechanism of their adaptation to dim light. In this study, eye transcriptomes of the shrimp Alvinocaris longirostris from the deep-sea chemosynthetic ecosystem and the shallow-water shrimp Palaemon carinicauda were compared. Two Pax6 homologs with low expression levels were identified in both species, which are essential transcription factors in eye development. This finding implies that the development of the two shrimp eyes at early embryo–larvae stages might be similar. The multiple components of the phototransduction pathway were identified in both species. However, the number of phototransduction components was significantly reduced in A. longirostris, as well as expression level. Particularly, short-wavelength/UV-sensitive (SWS/UVS) opsins were absent in A. longirostris and only one putative middle-wavelength-sensitive (MWS) opsin was identified in this species. The conserved sites and structures of the putative LWS opsins were found between deep-sea and shallow-water decapods, indicating that the opsins in deep-sea crustaceans may also conserve their spectral absorption and signal transduction function. Phylogenetic analyses supported the monophyly of LWS opsins and SWS/UVS opsins in arthropods, while the MWS clade fell outside of the main arthropod LWS clade. The results are expected to provide baseline for study of visual adaptation in deep-sea shrimps.

β−Ga2O3 field−effect transistors (FETs) were fabricated with and without local thinning to change the threshold voltage. A 220 nm Ga2O3 layer was mechanically exfoliated from a Cr−doped gallium oxide single crystal. Approximately 45 nm Ga2O3 was etched by inductively coupled plasma to form the local thinning. The threshold voltage of the device with etched local thinning increased from −3 V to +7 V compared to the unetched device. The effect of the local thinning was analyzed by device simulation, confirming that the local thinning structure is an effective method to enable enhancement−mode Ga2O3 FETs.

Abstract Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a progressive cardiovascular disease with high mortality. However, there were no efficient medical drugs for PAH to enormously improve the survival and quality of life measures. The present study aimed to explore the protective effect of baicalin against experimental PAH in vivo and vitro. All the experimental rats received intraperitoneal injection of monocrotaline (MCT) to induce PAH model. Baicalin was given by intragastric administration from 2 days after MCT injection. Forty animals were randomly divided into four groups: Control, MCT, saline‐, and baicalin‐treated groups (n = 10 in each). Post‐operation, hemodynamic data, and index of right ventricular hypertrophy (RVHI) were recorded to evaluate the inhibition of baicalin on MCT‐induced PAH. Furthermore, pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells (PASMCs) model induced by tumor necrosis factor‐α (TNF‐α) was used to observe the inhibition of vascular cells proliferation in vitro. The results demonstrated that baicalin significantly attenuated MCT‐induced right ventricular systolic pressure (RVSP), the index of right ventricular hypertrophy, and vessel wall thickness; inhibit inflammatory and cell proliferation induced by MCT or TNF‐α, respectively. In addition, we found that baicalin might protect against experimental PAH via regulating the TNF‐α/BMPR2 signaling pathway.

Background: To determine the safety and immunogenicity of a novel recombinant adenovirus type 5 vector based Ebola virus disease vaccine (Ad5-EBOV) in Africans in China. Methods: A phase 1, dose-escalation, open-label trial was conducted. 61 healthy Africans were sequentially enrolled, with 31 participants receiving one shot intramuscular injection and 30 participants receiving a double-shot regimen. Primary and secondary end points related to safety and immunogenicity were assessed within 28 d after vaccination. This study was registered with ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT02401373). Results: Ad5-EBOV is well tolerated and no adverse reaction of grade 3 or above was observed. 53 (86.89%) participants reported at least one adverse reaction within 28 d of vaccination. The most common reaction was fever and the mild pain at injection site, and there were no significant difference between these 2 groups. Ebola glycoprotein-specific antibodies appeared in all 61 participants and antibodies titers peaked after 28 d of vaccination. The geometric mean titres (GMTs) were similar between these 2 groups (1919.01 vs 1684.70 P = 0.5562). The glycoprotein-specific T-cell responses rapidly peaked after 14 d of vaccination and then decreased, however, the percentage of subjects with responses were much higher in the high-dose group (60.00% vs 9.68%, P = 0.0014). Pre-existing Ad5 neutralizing antibodies could significantly dampen the specific humoral immune response and cellular response to the vaccine. Conclusion: The application of Ad5-EBOV demonstrated safe in Africans in China and a specific GP antibody and T-cell response could occur 14 d after the first immunization. This acceptable safety profile provides a reliable basis to proceed with trials in Africa.

Abstract Low operating voltages have been long desired for thin-film transistors (TFTs). However, it is still challenging to realise 1-V operation by using conventional dielectrics due to their low gate capacitances and low breakdown voltages. Recently, electric double layers (EDLs) have been regarded as a promising candidate for low-power electronics due to their high capacitance. In this work, we present the first sputtered SiO2 solid-state electrolyte. In order to demonstrate EDL behaviour, a sputtered 200 nm-thick SiO2 electrolyte was incorporated into InGaZnO TFTs as the gate dielectric. The devices exhibited an operating voltage of 1 V, a threshold voltage of 0.06 V, a subthreshold swing of 83 mV dec−1 and an on/off ratio higher than 105. The specific capacitance was 0.45 µF cm−2 at 20 Hz, which is around 26 times higher than the value obtained from thermally oxidised SiO2 films with the same thickness. Analysis of the microstructure and mass density of the sputtered SiO2 films under different deposition conditions indicates that such high capacitance might be attributed to mobile protons donated by atmospheric water. The InGaZnO TFTs with the optimised SiO2 electrolyte also showed good air stability. This work provides a new pathway to the realisation of high-yield low-power electronics.

Cord reinforced rubber hose was widely used in automobile,aviation,aerospace and other fields. Meeting mechanical performance was the key to the safe use. In this paper,modeling of knitting cord was probed firstly. Then mechanical performance of aramid cord reinforced EPDM rubber hose was analyzed by ANSYS. Finally influence of cord’s needle number on mechanical properties of rubber hose was researched. The results show that maximum stress of cord is more than three hundred of times of maximum equivalent stress of rubber and maximum deformation of rubber is several times of maximum deformation of the cord when hose is imposed 0. 24 MPa inner pressure. And rubber and cord will not be destroyed. Experimental Bursting pressure of rubber hose is 2. 04 MPa,which is 97% of forecast bursting pressure 2. 10 MPa. With cord ’s needle number increasing,equivalent stress and deformation of cord and rubber all decrease sharply at first then tend to be gentle.

Presbycusis (PC) is associated with cognitive decline and incident dementia. Speech reception thresholds (SRT) are used to assess speech detection, which points toward a central component of PC. However, to the best of our knowledge, no previous study has reported the relationship between SRT and cognitive function in older adults in a Han Chinese cohort. Therefore, in this study, we investigate the association of hearing loss, indexed using pure tone average (PTA) and SRT, with cognitive function in a Han Chinese cohort using a standardized neurocognitive battery. Subjects (aged ≥60 years) with no history of psychiatric or neurological diseases were recruited. All subjects underwent a battery of neuropsychological and auditory tests. According to the PTA of the better ear, the subjects were further divided into PC and normal PTA (NP) groups. Regression analyses were performed to examine the relationship between cognitive function and hearing loss in the PC and NP groups and all subjects when controlling for age, sex, education level, diabetes, smoking, and hypertension. Cognitive function was significantly associated with PTA and SRT in all subjects. In all subjects, the correlations between non-verbal cognitive scores and SRT were stronger than those between non-verbal cognitive scores and PTA, whereas the correlations between verbal cognitive scores and PTA were stronger than those between verbal cognitive scores and SRT. Moreover, the correlations between PTA or SRT and cognitive function in the PC group were in principle stronger than those in the NP group. Our findings indicate that cognitive function is significantly associated with PTA and SRT in older adults in a Han Chinese cohort. Therefore, SRT could be an important auditory test for exploring cognitive decline in PC and could complement PTA.

Presbycusis (PC) is characterized by bilateral sensorineural hearing loss at high frequencies and speech-perception difficulties in noisy environments and has a strikingly detrimental impact on cognitive function. As the neural consequences of PC may involve the whole brain, we hypothesized that patients with PC would show structural alterations not only in the auditory cortex but also in the cortexes involved in cognitive function. The purpose of this study was to use surface-based morphometry (SBM) analysis to elucidate whole-brain structural differences between patients with PC and age-matched normal hearing controls. Three-dimensional T1-weighted MR images of 26 patients with mild PC and 26 age-, sex- and education-matched healthy controls (HCs) were acquired. All participants underwent a battery of neuropsychological tests. Our results revealed gray matter atrophy in several auditory cortical areas, nodes of the default mode network (DMN), including the bilateral precuneus and inferior parietal lobule, the right posterior cingulate cortex (PCC), and the right insula of patients with PC compared to that in the HCs. Our findings also revealed that hearing loss was associated with reduced gray matter volume in the right primary auditory cortex of patients with PC. Moreover, structural alterations in the nodes of the DMN were associated with cognitive impairments in PC patients. Additionally, this study provides evidence that a thicker right insula is associated with better speech perception in patients with PC. Based on these findings, we argue that the onset of PC seems to trigger its own cascade of conditions, including a need for increased cognitive resources during speech comprehension, which might lead to auditory and cognition-related cortical reorganization.

Background: The prognostic values of the coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) score for predicting future cardiovascular events have been previously demonstrated in numerous studies. However, few studies have used the rich information available from CCTA to detect functionally significant coronary lesions. We sought to compare the prognostic values of Gai's plaque score and the coronary artery calcium score (CACS) of CCTA for predicting functionally significant coronary lesions, using fractional flow reserve (FFR) as the gold standard. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 107 visually assessed significant coronary lesions in 88 patients (mean age, 59.6 ± 10.2 years; 76.14% of males) who underwent CCTA, invasive coronary angiography, and invasive FFR measurement.
