[Objective] In order to explore the typical surface wind erosion process of the dry lake basin and the mechanism of the formation of saline-alkali dust storm. [Methods] Taking the Chagannaoer dry salt lake in Abaga Banner of Xilin Gol League as the research object, four different surface types (crust surface, broken surface, activated surface and desertification surface) were selected according to the dynamic evolution process of salt lake surface from the lake center to the lake shore. The characteristics of soil particle size distribution, wind speed profile and sediment transport law near the surface from the lake center to the lake shore were analyzed. [Results] (1) Extending from the center of the lake to the shore of the lake, the grain size of 0—2 cm sediment on the surface showed a trend of gradually thickening, and the clay and silt were the main particles. (2) The wind speed from the center of the dry salt lake to the shore of the lake showed a decreasing trend. Wind speed profiles of different surfaces generally followed the logarithmic distribution of Karman’s velocity, and the fitting effect was good (R2>0.90). (3) The amount of sediment transport on the broken surface was the highest, which was about 50 times that of the crust surface, and the sediment transport rate on the crust surface showed a linear law with the change of height due to limited dust supply (R2=0.80), and the sediment transport rate on the other three surfaces showed an exponential function with the change of height (R2>0.97). (4) Near the surface at a height of 0 to 50 cm, the average particle size of sand particles carried in the wind-sand flow ranges from 2 to 8 μm, which falled under the category of silt, with poor sorting. Skewness was predominantly negative, while kurtosis was mainly medium and sharp. [Conclusion] On the whole, the wind erosion effect on the broken surface was the strongest, and the wind erosion effect on the crust surface was the weakest. The wind erosion effect in this area can be weakened by increasing the critical starting wind speed threshold of sand particles and the coverage of underlying surface.

Abstract This paper reports lithium concentrations and isotopic compositions of olivines in the oceanized subcontinental lithospheric mantle (SCLM) peridotites of the Tibetan Yunzhug ophiolite. The results show systematic Li isotope changes with distance from the rim of olivine grains. δ7Li values of olivine in dunites decrease from + 10.46 to + 1.33‰ with increasing distance to olivine rim from 26.15 to 124.71 μm. A negative correlation of δ7Li and Li content in olivine from dunite and harzburgite indicates recent diffusive ingress of Li into the peridotites. The extremely heavy Li isotopic composition requires the seawater or seawater alteration endmember in the mixing model, and reveals Li diffusion from seawater into olivine. As in dunites, olivines in a harzburgite sample show similar variations in δ7Li as a function of distance from the grain rim (e.g., 6.01 to 1.73 in sample 14YZ13). We suggest that the behavior of Li in the oceanized SCLM peridotites may be controlled by Li diffusion from seawater, as Li activity in the liquid state is higher than the solid state in transporting Li through the olivines in the peridotites. This study supports that seawater Li diffusion is one of the important factors for the heterogeneity of mantle Li isotopes in ophiolites.

Soil organic carbon (SOC) plays a crucial role in soil health and global carbon cycling, therefore accurate estimates of its spatial distribution are important for managing soil health and mitigating global climate change. Digital soil mapping shows its potential to provide accurate and high-resolution spatial distribution of SOC across scales. To convert SOC content to SOC density (SOCD), two inference trajectories exist for predicting SOCD in digital soil mapping: the direct approach (calculate-then-model) and indirect approach (model-then-calculate). However, there is a lack of comprehensive exploration regarding the differences in their performance in SOCD estimates, particularly in regions characterized by diverse pedoclimatic conditions. To bridge this knowledge gap, we evaluated the two approaches based on model performance of SOCD in France. Using 916 topsoils (0−20 ​cm) from the LUCAS Soil 2018 and 24 environmental covariates, random forest model and forward recursive feature selection were used to build the spatial predictive models of SOCD using direct and indirect approaches. The results show that, using random forest model and full covariates, both approaches show moderate performance (R2 ​= ​0.28−0.32). By utilizing forward recursive feature selection model, the number of predictors was reduced from 24 to 9, enhancing model performance for direct approach (R2 of 0.35), with no improvement for indirect approach (R2 of 0.28). The mean SOCD of the French topsoil was 5.29 and 6.14 ​kg ​m−2 by direct and indirect approaches, resulting in SOC stock of 2.8 and 3.3 ​Pg, respectively. We found that the direct approach clearly underestimated the high SOCD (>9 ​kg ​m−2), while the indirect approach performed much better for high SOCD. Our findings serve as a valuable reference for SOCD mapping, thereby providing a scientific basis for maintaining soil health.

Purpose: To assess the influence of age as a continuous variable on the prognosis of pT1-2N1 breast cancer and examine its decision-making value for postmastectomy radiotherapy (PMRT). Methods: We retrospectively evaluated 5438 patients with pT1-2N1 breast cancer after mastectomy in 11 hospitals. A multivariable Cox proportional hazards regression model with penalized splines was used to examine the relationship between age and oncologic outcomes. Results: The median follow-up was 67.0 months. After adjustments for confounding characteristics, nonsignificant downward trend in locoregional recurrence (LRR) risk was observed with increasing age (P-non-linear association = 0.640; P-linear association = 0.078). A significant non-linear association was found between age and disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) (P-non-linear association 0.05, respectively). The DFS and OS exhibited U-shaped relationships, with the hazard ratios (HRs), reaching a nadir at 50 years old. A decreased risk of LRR with PMRT vs. no PMRT (HR = 0.304, 95% CI: 0.204–0.454) was maintained in all ages. The HR of PMRT vs. no PMRT for DFS and OS gradually increased with age. In patients ≤50 years old, PMRT was independently associated with favorable LRR, DFS, and OS, all P 50 years old, PMRT was independently associated with reduced LRR (P = 0.004), but had no effect on DFS or OS. Conclusions: Age was an independent prognostic factor for pT1-2N1 breast cancer; PMRT provided survival benefits for patients ≤50 years old, but not for patients >50 years old.

Abstract Background Avian haemosporidia infect both domestic and wild birds, causing anemia, acute tissue degeneration, and depopulation in wild birds. Poultry and wild birds have been reported as common reservoirs of haemosporidia, but limited information is available for red junglefowl (Gallus gallus) in China. The present study investigated the prevalence and molecular characterization of haemosporidia in red junglefowl. Methods Blood samples were collected from 234 red junglefowl from Jinghong City of Yunnan Province, and genomic DNA was extracted from these samples. The prevalence of haemosporidia was determined by nested PCR targeting the mitochondrial cytochrome b (cytb) gene. Molecular characterization was investigated based on phylogenetic analysis of cytb sequences, and associated risk factors were analyzed using the Chi-square (χ 2) test. Results The overall prevalence of haemosporidia was 74.8% (175/234), and three species were identified, namely Haemoproteus enucleator, Leucocytozoon californicus, and Plasmodium juxtanucleare. The prevalence of haemosporidia in adult fowl (81.1%, 107/132) was significantly higher (χ 2 = 6.32, df = 1, P = 0.012) than that in juveniles (66.7%, 68/102). Three novel haemosporidian lineages were revealed. Conclusions This study examined the prevalence and identified species of avian haemosporidians in red junglefowl, providing new information on the molecular epidemiology and geographical distribution of haemosporidian parasites. Our results indicated high prevalence and diverse species distribution of these haemosporidians in red junglefowl. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first record of haemosporidian infection in red junglefowl in China. Graphical Abstract

ObjectiveThis study aims to help understand the mechanism behind the relationship between physical exercise and the subjective well-being among Chinese junior high school students, and it is of great significance for the intervention measures to improve the subjective well-being of junior high school students.MethodsUsing stratified cluster sampling method, 1,510 junior high school students (727 males and 783 females) were measured by physical exercise rating scale, perceived social support scale, physical exercise self-efficacy scale, and subjective well-being scale. Objective: To clarify the effect of postmastectomy radiotherapy (PMRT) on pT1-2N1 breast cancer patients with different molecular subtypes. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the data of 5442 patients with pT1-2N1 breast cancer treated using modified radical mastectomy in 11 hospitals in China. Univariate, multivariate, and propensity score matching (PSM) analyses were used to evaluate the effect of PMRT on locoregional recurrence (LRR). Results: With a median follow-up duration of 63.8 months, the 5-year LRR rates were 4.0% and 7.7% among patients treated with and without PMRT, respectively (p
