Abstract

Cultural words usually pose some challenges to translators, especially when they translate texts into languages which are culturally different. This study investigates the translation of cultural items in The Forty Hadiths by Imam Al-Nawawi. It adopted the qualitative approach for selecting and analyzing the translation of culturally-bound items of the selected Prophet Mohammed’s hadiths posted on the Web by Sunnah.com. Moreover, it used Lambert and Van Gorp’s (1985) method to examine the translations and Vinay and Darbelnet's translation strategies to identify the procedures selected by the translators to convey the meanings of the cultural contents. The findings indicated that the translators implemented various procedures to convey the cultural meanings of the hadiths. However, whenever confronted with difficult categories, due to the lexical, syntactic and cultural differences between Arabic and English, they were inconsistent in their choices of translation procedures. Furthermore, they did not succeed in rendering the aesthetic features of the Prophet’s utterances, an issue that is yet to be addressed by researchers. The present study provides implications which could be useful for translators, especially translators of religious texts.

29. Molecular detection of UreC and UreR genes of Proteus mirabilis in diabetic type 2 and non-diabetic patients with urinary tract infection in Baghdad city, Iraq

Abstract

The aim of this study is the Proteus mirabilis genes ureR and ureC and their correlation urease enzyme production Diabetes type-2 from Urinary Treact Infection (UTI). Out of 1720 samples from adult (>18years) males and females diabetic type II and non-diabetic with UTIs only 39 samples of Proteus mirabilis isolated from urine were obtained according to conventional methods (depending on culturing and microscopic examination) and confirmed by VITECK 2 system that collected from various hospitals and privet labs in Baghdad city, Iraq in the period between December 2020 to April 2021. The results indicate to the incidence of UTI is higher among females 1066 (61.98%)than males 654 (38.02%) and in type 2 diabetic 1016 (59.07%) more than non diabetic 704 (40.93%) and the incidence of P. mirabilis infection is higher among females 25 (64.10%) than males 14 (35.90%) and in type 2 diabetic 23 (58.97%) more than non diabetic 16 (41.03%). All the 39 isolate of P. mirabilis had the ability to produce urease enzyme. Moreover, the results of the ureC and ureR polymerase chain reaction technique showed that all (39) isolates (100%) possessed both ureC and ureR through the appearance of amplicons with a molecular weight of 517 and 359 bp, respectively.

Abstract

The materials of soil were affected by multi reasons; such as human activities, floods, tidal waves, ... etc. The change of the soil contents could be measured through different indexes; such as electric conductivities, salinity, concentration of the heavy elements, and concentration of essential elements ... etc. The land cover is affected by natural influences, like tidal energy, which plays a negative role in the salinization of land adjacent to the coasts, causing a problem for soils in all its details represented in changing of the dissolved elements in soil. One of the most important natural factors that cause soil salinity is human activity in all its forms, and one of the most important causes of salinity is the phenomenon of tides in the Arabian Gulf. Due to the lack of water imports for this governorate, the study area is located in the far south of Mesopotamia, specifically in the Basra governorate, represented by Al-Faw district and part of Abu Al-Khasib district, which is distinguished by its location in the region of Tails of the Rivers. To find the values of total dissolved salts and electrical conductivity for the year 2020 for the rainy season (field work outputs), where the values of total dissolved salts reached (7380-13380) mg / L . The electrical conductivity values reached (1217-2230) μS / cm for (11) soil samples randomly distributed over the study area, where the values of these samples were distributed on the sites within the cut map of the study area using (QGIS) program. (ENVI) program to calculate the salinity index values for the year 2020, then a regression method was used to correlate each of the spectral values of salinity with the values obtained in the field. Where it was found that the best equation for calculating salinity values is polynomial of the first degree because it links the field and spectral values with a linear relationship, and this process was completed using Matlab program to find salinity, for the 2010 dry season.

Abstract

This study was conducted to estimate the extent of damage to the population in Basra, southern Iraq, specifically the areas adjacent to the Shatt al-Arab and the Arabian Gulf, which are the Al-Fao district and the Al-Siba region. They are affected by the progression of saline water resulting from the lack of water imports and the Karun River interruption, which led to high concentrations of salts in the Shatt Al-Arabs. Consequently, its effect on lands and all life types in these areas requires correcting a map of the study area to drop the groundwater sites as well as calculate the total dissolved salts, electrical conductivity and pH. This study concluded that the groundwater contains very high percentages of total dissolved solids (2880–10415 mg/l) and electrical conductivity (4450–14190 µs/cm). As it has very high salinity, so it is not suitable for drinking, irrigation, or industry. The values of the pH values (7.1-7.5) indicate that it is a light alkaline.
