This work concerns Ising quasiholes in Moore-Read type lattice wave functions derived from conformal field theory. We commence with constructing Moore-Read type lattice states and then add quasiholes to them. By use of Metropolis Monte Carlo simulations, we analyze the features of the quasiholes, such as their size, shape, charge, and braiding properties. The braiding properties, which turn out to be the same as in the continuum Moore-Read state, demonstrate the topological attributes of the Moore-Read lattice states in a direct way. We also derive parent Hamiltonians for which the states with quasiholes included are ground states. One advantage of these Hamiltonians lies therein that we can now braid the quasiholes just by changing the coupling strengths in the Hamiltonian since the Hamiltonian is a function of the positions of the quasiholes. The methodology exploited in this article can also be used to construct other kinds of lattice fractional quantum Hall models containing quasiholes, for example investigation of Fibonacci quasiholes in lattice Read-Rezayi states., 20 pages, 6 figures

We consider an effective model for graphene with interface-induced spin-orbit coupling and calculate the quantum Hall effect in the low-energy limit. We perform a systematic analysis of the contribution of the different terms of the effective Hamiltonian to the quantum Hall effect (QHE). By analyzing the spin splitting of the quantum Hall states as a function of magnetic field and gate voltage, we obtain different scaling laws that can be used to characterize the spin-orbit coupling in experiments. Furthermore, we employ a real-space quantum transport approach to calculate the quantum Hall conductivity and investigate the robustness of the QHE to disorder introduced by hydrogen impurities. We present a self-consistent analytic theory of the intra-layer and inter-layer pair correlation functions in electron-electron and electron-hole fluid bilayer systems. Our approach involves the solution of a zero-energy scattering Schroedinger equation with an effective potential which includes a Bose-like term from Jastrow-Feenberg correlations and a Fermi term from kinetic energy and exchange, tailored to yield the Hartree-Fock limit at high carrier density. The theory is also shown to satisfy the plasmon sum rule and the charge neutrality condition. We obtain good agreement with the available Quantum Diffusion Monte Carlo (DMC) data in symmetric bilayers over a wide range of carrier density and layer spacing, and stress the role of three-body correlation terms in yielding fully quantitative agreement at strong coupling. Signals of impending transitions to density-modulated states at strong coupling and low layer spacing appear in the calculated pair correlations through inter-layer in-phase oscillations for electron-hole bilayers and out-of-phase oscillations for electron-electron bilayers, in agreement with the DMC findings., 8 pages, 3 figures, submitted

We review the relations between Jordan cells in various branches of physics, ranging from quantum mechanics to massive gravity theories. Our main focus is on holographic correspondences between critically tuned gravity theories in anti-de Sitter space and logarithmic conformal field theories in various dimensions. We summarize the developments in the past five years, include some novel generalizations and provide an outlook on possible future developments.

We study ultracold atoms subjected to U(2) non-Abelian potentials: we consider gauge potentials having, in the Abelian limit, degenerate Landau levels and we then investigate the effect of general homogeneous non-Abelian terms. The conditions under which the structure of degenerate Landau levels is preserved are classified and discussed. The typical gauge potentials preserving the Landau levels are characterized by a fictitious magnetic field and by an effective spin-orbit interaction (e.g., obtained through the rotation of two-dimensional atomic gases coupled with a tripod scheme). The single-particle energy spectrum can be analytically determined for a class of gauge potentials, whose physical implementation is discussed. The corresponding Landau levels are deformed by the non-Abelian contribution of the potential and their spin degeneracy is split. The related deformed quantum Hall states for fermions and bosons (in the presence of strong intraspecies interaction) are determined far from and at the degeneracy points of the Landau levels, where non-Abelian states appear. We present a discussion of the effect of the angular momentum, as well as results for U(3) gauge potentials.
