The demanding and challenging nature of care for geriatric patients requires appropriate preparation of health care professionals. However, the willingness of nursing students to work in geriatric nursing care is mostly at a low level. The EAging_C project has been developed to investigate the relationship between nursing teachers' and students' attitudes towards older people and its impact on career decisions regarding working in a geriatric setting. This study uses an explanatory sequential mixed-method. The study has been conducted in a Polish academic setting in teams of geriatric nursing practical training teachers and their students. Quantitative and qualitative data have been collected in three stages. Kogan's Attitudes Towards Older People questionnaire has been used to collect quantitative data among teachers and students. By developing two questionnaires for the semi-structured interviews (one for students and one for teachers) qualitative data was collected that deepened the quantitative data collected. The investigation conducted in this project allows us to provide an insight into the issue of the unwillingness to work in a geriatric setting by nursing graduates. Based on the identified variables that are crucial to promoting work with older people, further research can be carried out based on testing the intervention. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Patient Targeted Googling (PTG) is not a new phenomenon, but in Poland -- according to the information available to the authors -- there has been no research in this area among nurses and midwives. The above-mentioned activity is associated with many doubts and concerns of legal and ethical issues, and therefore there is a need to explore it. Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of PTG among nurses and midwives in Poland. Material and Methods: The study conducted among 300 working nurses and midwives used a diagnostic survey based on the author's survey questionnaire. Statistical analysis was performed using PQStat version: 1.8.4.142. Mann-Whitney U tests, chi2 and Fisher's correlations were used. The significance level was adopted at p <0.05 and highly significant at p <0.01. Results: The respondents' reasons for patient targeted googling were mainly lack of other sources of information, controlling adherence to recommendations, ascertaining the patient's mental disorders, behavior, substance abuse status and physical appearance. PTG without informing the patient was considered unethical and likely to violate the principle of informed consent and privacy. Respondents expressed the need for PTG training. Conclusions: The study presents the prevalence of PTG phenomenon among Polish nurses and midwives along with the different determinants of this activity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Cancer pain is the most prevalent symptom among patients diagnosed with oncological disease. Pain complaints can occur at any stage of the disease, significantly impacting patient functioning. An additional challenge that arises when trying to assess the severity of pain is the cognitive impairment that can occur in palliative patients. Pain control is a key component of palliative treatment, and effective assessment is a cornerstone of planned therapy. The purpose of this study was to assess pain among patients with cognitive impairment hospitalized in an inpatient palliative medicine unit and examine its impact on their functional status. Material and methods: The method used in the study is a diagnostic survey with purposive group selection. The techniques that were used are a questionnaire and analysis of medical records. Standardized tools including the Doloplus-2 pain assessment questionnaire, the Behavioural Rating Scale, the Critical Care Pain Observation Tool questionnaire, and the Abbreviated Mental Test score (for qualifying patients) were used to conduct the survey. Results: The study revealed statistically significant correlations between the functional status of patients with cognitive impairment and the presence of pain. However, no correlations were observed between gender, age, primary tumour location, and pain complaints. Conclusions: Patients who score higher on functional performance scales are patients who experience pain. The Doloplus-2 scale is a more effective tool for assessing pain occurrence in palliative patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
