Waters polluted with Pb and Cd have a negative impact on the environment. Padina australis grows abundantly on the coast of Palang Subdistrict, Tuban, and the local community consumes it. Macroalgae as food must be free of metal contamination. This study aims to determine the impact of Pb and Cd bioaccumulation on P. australis. Sampling was conducted at two stations, including Station I, Panyuran Village, and Station II, Glodog Village. Analysis of Pb and Cd metal levels using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS). Analysis of protein content using the Kjeldahl method. The data obtained was analyzed with Principle Component Analysis (PCA). The results of the analysis of Pb and Cd levels in P. australis at station II, which are 0.200 ± 0.028 and 0.021 ± 0.004 mg.kg-1 higher than station I, which are 0.194 ± 0.015 and 0.010 ± 0.001 mg.kg-1. The protein content of P. australis at station I was 4.713 ± 0.508 mg.kg-1, and at station II was 5.900 ± 0.928 mg.kg-1. This shows that P. australis is still considered good for consumption even though it has been polluted and contains Pb and Cd metals. P. australis can tolerate and does not experience severe physiological damage so it has the potential as a heavy metal phytoremediator. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The wood processing production system in its activities always produces waste in the form of husks or pieces of wood. The opportunity to control wood waste can be used to heat boilers as a substitute for fuel oil. This study on the use of wood waste was carried out to assess technical, economic and environmental aspects. An assessment of the technical aspect was carried out to see the efficiency of using wood waste compared to fuel oil. Financial aspects are an important consideration in utilizing wood waste, while environmental aspects. Studies show that diesel fuel consumption is higher than wood waste fuel consumption, however boiler efficiency is higher using oil fuel compared to wood waste fuel, namely 70%: 20%. Financial analysis using NPV shows that this wood waste fueled boiler is economically feasible. From environmental aspects, it is known that fuel consumption for one year for wood waste fuel produces CO2 emissions of 1,207.36 tons, which is lower than CO2 emissions from burning diesel which is 6,808.31 tons.

People in South East Asia region have consumed hard clam for a long time. This clam also actively collected and traded by local people around beaches and estuaries in Indonesia. The purposes of this research were to analyze protein and content of hard clam (Meretrix sp.) collected from Bancaran Estuary, Indonesia and to evaluate the content of lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd). The sample of clams was collected by hand picking during low tide. Fresh samples of clams were kept in a cool box. Fresh samples of the flesh were taken for analysis of nutrient and heavy metal content as well. The content of fat was analyzed using soxhlet method; meanwhile the protein content was analyzed using Kjeldahl method. In addition, the content of cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb) in the flesh of hard clam were tested using atomic adsorption spectroscopy. The results indicated of the flesh of hard clam contained fat and protein, namely 3.25±0.42% and 10.26±0.46% respectively. Meanwhile, the content of Cadmium (Cd) and Lead (Pb) were 0.0306±0.0053 ppm and 0.0458±0.0035 ppm respectively. The level of Cd and Pb were lower than the level of maximum acceptable limit. Therefore, it can be concluded that the flesh of hard clam was safe for consumption.

This study aims to analyze the carrying capacity of the coastal waters of Blekok and the coast of Kerapu, Situbondo, East Java as a conservation area for mangroves, blekok birds and grouper fish cultivation. The study used the in situ observation method, carried out in January–February 2021. The sampling was on Blekok beach at latitude coordinates: -7.69742 and longitude: 113.92206, on Kerapu beach at latitude coordinates: -7.69568 and longitude: 113.89666. At each beach the data is taken at 3 stations, at each station 3 sub stations are taken. Parameters measured include physical (temperature, turbidity, TSS, TDS), chemical (pH, salinity, DO, BOD, Cu), and biology (total Coliform) were measured in situ and at the Environmental Laboratory, Situbondo Environmental Service. Analysis of Cu concentration using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer method. Coliform total analysis used the Most Probable Number method. The data were analyzed descriptively qualitative-quantitatively and compared with the quality standard of the Minister of Environment Decree No. 51/2004. The results showed that the physical, chemical, and biological parameters of the coastal waters of Blekok and Kerapu beaches were in accordance with quality standards so the carrying capacity as a mangrove conservation area, blekok birds, grouper cultivation and tourism is very good.

A compilation of mysid shrimps species found in brackish water to seawater has been carried out based on published records. The checklist includes the taxonomic position of each species, local distribution and depth range, the geographic zones and also the bibliographic references where they were recorded. Altogether 3 Lophogastrida and 52 Mysida species and 1 subspecies are listed. Most of them are distributed in the Andaman Sea (41 species), some in the Gulf of Thailand (13 species) and a few in the Songkhla Lagoon System (5 species). Mysids from the tribe Erythropini and Neomysini are the most predominant overall recorded species. Two of the recorded Mysida species are possibly endemic to the Songkhla Lagoon System (Deltamysis songkhlaensis and Nanomysis siamensis), whereas two species are endemic to the Phuket Island (Anisomysis phuketensis and Erythrops phuketensis). Previously, Rhopalophthalmus egregius was claimed to live in the Songkhla Lagoon System, however, further investigation show that this is not the case.

Tetramethyl orthosilicate (TMOS) is shown to be an effective reagent for direct amidation of aliphatic and aromatic carboxylic acids with amines and anilines. The amide products are obtained in good to quantitative yields in pure form directly after workup without the need for any further purification. A silyl ester as the putative activated intermediate is observed by NMR methods. Amidations on a 1 mol scale are demonstrated with a favorable process mass intensity.
