Hide trimming waste is a by-product of tannery. Collagen is the main structural protein in hide trimming waste (70%), and extensively utilised in numerous industries including food, non-food, cosmetics, and medical. Research related to the development of hydrolysed collagen (h-collagen) extraction methods from cowhide, especially from the hide trimming waste, is still limited. The present work thus aimed to develop a four-step method for extracting h-collagen from hide trimming waste, and examine the product's properties. The present work successfully developed a method for extracting h-collagen from trimming waste with a 20.35% yield. Analysis of molecular weight, FTIR, and amino acid composition confirmed that the product was h-collagen with a molecular weight of 16 - 23 kDa. This h-collagen had higher antioxidant activity than commercial h-collagen, with an IC50 value of 238.5 ppm. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) methodology was used for this research’s systematic review. We browsed a variety of academic studies that had been published in English language, published in PubMed, Elsevier, Taylor & Francis, and Semantic Scholars that examine quarter life crisis. The literature search generated a total of 3100 publications. After removing duplicates and screening titles, abstracts, and full-text evaluation, there were 14 articles were included in the final analysis. The results were validated and examined. There were internal and external factors impacting quarter life crisis. The most powerful internal influences were commitment to purpose, spirituality, and anxiety. Meanwhile, social support, age, and gender were the most important external influences.Keywords: quarter life crisis, early adulthood, systematic literature review

Background: Odontogenic cysts have the potential to transform into neoplasms. However, the characteristics of those which transformed to neoplastic tissues have not been well described and the exact causes of that phenomenon are not yet clear., Objectives: This study aims to describe characteristics of odontogenic cysts that transformed into neoplasms and to look for their potential etiologies., Data Sources: English-written studies indexed in PubMed, Science Direct, and Proquest were assessed using keywords verified by Medical Subject Headings: 'Odontogenic Cyst' and 'Neoplastic Cell Transformation'., Study Eligibility Criteria: Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-analysis (PRISMA) guidelines were used as guidance., Participants: Following steps in PRISMA guidelines, 19 articles were fully reviewed (three case series and 16 case reports) with 27 subjects of 16 males (59%) and 11 females (41%) from 15 to 86 years old., Results: Cystic origins were eight dentigerous cysts, four odontogenic keratocysts, two residual cysts, one radicular cyst, one calcifying odontogenic cyst, one follicular cyst, one glandular odontogenic cyst, and nine unspecified odontogenic cysts that transformed to ameloblastoma (3 cases) and carcinoma (24 cases)., Limitations: Neoplastic transformations of odontogenic cysts arose from epithelial remnants of inadequate odontogenic cyst removal and chronic inflammation due to infection. However, the exact causes of their transformations remain unclear., Conclusions: Therefore, careful removal of odontogenic cysts and regular postoperative follow-ups are key to prevent recurrence and neoplastic transformation. The immune response during the onset of coliform mastitis in vaccinated cows was investigated by measuring lactoferrin (LF), interleukin-8 (IL-8), and interleukin-1β (IL-1β) concentrations and somatic cell counts in 28 milk samples at the onset of acute coliform mastitis (ACM) and 73 milk samples at the onset of peracute coliform mastitis (PCM). Vaccinated ACM, unvaccinated ACM, and vaccinated PCM showed significantly higher values for LF and IL-1β levels than unvaccinated PCM (p < .01). The IL-8 concentration was lower in vaccinated PCM than in unvaccinated PCM (p < .05). There was no significant difference in somatic cell counts for each parameter. There were no significant differences in the parameters between vaccinated and unvaccinated ACM cows, or vaccinated ACM and PCM cows. From the above results, it is suggested that mastitis vaccination improved the early immune response, particularly at the onset of PCM, and played a large role in host defense against the initial infection., (© 2021 Japanese Society of Animal Science.)

Introduction: Quality-adjusted life year (QALY) has been recommended by the government as preferred outcome measure for Health Technology Assessment (HTA) in India. As country-specific health-related quality of life tariff values are essential for accurate measurement of QALYs, the government of India has commissioned the present study. The aim of this paper is to describe the methods for the Development of an EQ-5D Value set for India using an Extended design (DEVINE) Study. Additionally, this study aspires to establish if the design of 10-time trade-off (TTO) blocks is enough to generate valid value sets., Methods and Analysis: A cross-sectional survey using the EuroQol Group's Valuation Technology (EQ-VT) will be undertaken in a sample of 2700 respondents selected from six different states of India using a multistage stratified random sampling technique. The participants will be interviewed using computer-assisted personal interviewing technique. The TTO valuation will be done using 10 composite TTO (c-TTO) tasks and 7 discrete choice experiment (DCE) tasks. Hybrid modelling approach using both c-TTO and DCE data to estimate the potential value set will be applied. Values of all 3125 health states will be predicted using both the conventional EQ-VT design of 10 blocks of 10 TTO tasks, and an extended design of 18 blocks of 10 TTO tasks. The potential added value of the eight additional blocks in overall validity will be tested. The study will deliver value set for India and assess the adequacy of existing 10-blocks design to be able to correctly predict the values of all 3125 health states., Ethics and Dissemination: The ethical approval has been obtained from Institutional Ethics Committee of PGIMER, Chandigarh, India. The incidence of bovine mastitis and the bulk milk somatic cell count (BMSCC) are influenced by season, which may be associated with innate immune functions, including antimicrobial components in mammary glands. Therefore, the present study was conducted to examine the effect of season on antimicrobial components in milk. Rectal temperature and plasma cortisol, thyroxine, and derivatives of reactive oxygen metabolites (d-ROMs) were measured as stress parameters. Concentrations of lactoferrin (LF), lingual antimicrobial peptide (LAP), psoriasin (S100A7), and Immunoglobulin A (IgA) in milk were measured as indicators of innate immune function. LF and LAP concentrations were significantly lower in summer than in winter and spring, respectively, whereas the concentration of S100A7 was significantly lower in winter than in spring and autumn. The rectal temperature was significantly higher in summer than in other seasons, whereas plasma cortisol, thyroxine, and d-ROMs did not exhibit any seasonal variation. In conclusion, even though stress parameters were not changed, the concentration of antimicrobial components, such as LF and LAP, decreased in summer, which may explain the frequent occurrence of mastitis during this season., (© 2020 Japanese Society of Animal Science.)

This study aimed to determine the production site of antimicrobial peptide S100A8 in the goat mammary gland and changes in its concentration in milk after lipopolysaccharide (LPS) challenge. Sixteen Tokara goats were used in this study for mammary gland tissue, blood leukocyte, and milk somatic cell collection and LPS challenge. The mRNA expression and protein localization of S100A8 in the mammary gland parenchyma and teat, blood leukocytes, and milk somatic cells were examined by reverse-transcription PCR and immunohistochemistry. The S100A8 concentration in milk was measured at 0 to 144 h after intramammary challenge of LPS by enzyme immunoassay. The mRNA of S100A8 was expressed in the parenchyma and teat, leukocytes isolated from blood, and milk somatic cells. Antimicrobial peptide S100A8 was immunolocalized in the outermost layer of the teat skin of udders with and without LPS infusion, whereas in the mammary gland it was immunolocalized only in the leukocytes infiltrated in the alveoli after LPS infusion. Antimicrobial peptide S100A8 was also immunolocalized in the blood and milk leukocytes. The number of S100A8-positive cells in milk was higher than that in blood. The concentration of S100A8 in milk increased significantly at 72 h after intramammary infusion of LPS. These results suggest that S100A8 is produced in the leukocytes and that its secretion into milk is affected by LPS stimulation., (Copyright © 2019 American Dairy Science Association.
