- Abstract

- Abstract
The hog deer (Axis porcinus) is an endangered cervid with drastic population declines. There are 2 recognized subspecies of hog deer: A. p. porcinus, ranging from Punjab Province in Pakistan, Nepal, and the Northern part of India to Myanmar, and A. p. annamiticus found in Indo-China, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam. The current geographic range of A. p. annamiticus is still ambiguous. We analyzed variation in the mitochondrial DNA control region (mtDNA CR) to investigate the intra-species structure, differentiation, and demographic history of hog deer from Cambodia (Kratie Province), which we compared with the populations from India and Thailand. We also generated divergence time estimates using a concatenated dataset of complete Cyt b and partial CR. The CR data showed that Cambodian hog deer are genetically differentiated from the mainland Indian and Thai populations, forming a distinct basal clade. The time of divergence indicates that the Cambodian lineage split from the other 2 hog deer lineages around 0.51 Mya, during the Late Pleistocene. The results also suggest strong phylogeographic structure among hog deer: lineage A extends from Terai Arc (foothills of the Himalayas) to Assam, India (A. p. porcinus), lineage B from Manipur, India to Thailand (A. p. annamiticus), and lineage C is only known from Kratie Province, Cambodia. Lineage A exhibited a higher level of genetic diversity than lineages B and C, with recent demographic stability. Thus, the hog deer population in Kratie Province appears to be a distinct lineage that should be treated as an evolutionarily significant unit., (© The Author(s) 2022. - Abstract
Ni-rich layered oxide cathodes are promising candidates to satisfy the increasing energy demand of lithium-ion batteries for automotive applications. Aqueous processing of such materials, although desirable to reduce costs and improve sustainability, remains challenging due to the Li
+ /H+ exchange upon contact with water, resulting in a pH increase and corrosion of the aluminum current collector. Herein, an example was given for tuning the properties of aqueous LiNi0.83 Co0.12 Mn0.05 O2 electrode pastes using a lithium polyacrylate-based binder to find the "sweet spot" for processing parameters and electrochemical performance. Polyacrylic acid was partially neutralized to balance high initial capacity, good cycling stability, and the prevention of aluminum corrosion. Optimized LiOH/polyacrylic acid ratios in water were identified, showing comparable cycling performance to electrodes processed with polyvinylidene difluoride requiring toxic N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone as solvent. This work gives an exemplary study for tuning aqueous electrode pastes properties aiming towards a more environmentally friendly processing of Ni-rich cathodes., (© 2022 The Authors. - Abstract
Research on automatic attention to emotional faces offers mixed results. Therefore we examined validity effects for facial expressions of different emotions (compared to neutral faces) with a dot-probe paradigm in seven studies (total N = 308). Systematic variations of type of emotion, CTI, task, cue size, and masking allow for a differentiated assessment of attentional capture by emotions and possible moderating factors. Results indicate a general absence of emotional validity effects as well as a lack of significant interactions with either of the manipulated factors, indicating that facial expressions of emotions do not capture attention in a fully automatic fashion. These findings suggest that situational and contextual factors have to be taken into account when investigating attentional capture of emotional faces.

- Abstract
Objective: To investigate the compatibility of recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rtPA) and bevacizumab in vitro because during surgery, rtPA or rtPA-induced plasmin may cleave and inactivate bevacizumab., Methods: To simulate the intraoperative range of mixing ratios of rtPA, bevacizumab, and subretinal blood, we calculated the volumes of 12 submacular hemorrhages (SHs) with a spherical cap formula using measurements derived from fundus photographs and spectral-domain optical coherence tomographic images. Bevacizumab was incubated with rtPA or plasmin before gel electrophoresis with Coomassie blue and silver staining. The anti-angiogenetic activity of bevacizumab in the presence of rtPA with or without clotted human blood or of plasmin was quantified by vascular endothelial growth factor–enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay after incubation with the supernatant of porcine retinal pigment epithelium cell cultures., Results: The mean (SD) volume of SH was 28.6 (24.7) mm3 (range, 6.2-94.6 mm3). In sodium dodecyl sulfate–polyacrylamid electrophoresis with Coomassie blue or silver staining, bevacizumab displayed characteristic patterns of protein bands. No additional fragments were detected in co-application of bevacizumab with either rtPA or plasmin. The anti-angiogenetic activity of bevacizumab remained unchanged in co-application with rtPA with or without blood or plasmin., Conclusions: We demonstrated the absence of cleavage or functional inactivation of bevacizumab by rtPA in an in-vitro model of their intraoperative co-application as a treatment of SH., Clinical Relevance: In clinical practice, rtPA and bevacizumab can be co-applied as a treatment for neovascular age-related macular degeneration with SH to simultaneously clear SH and reduce choroidal new vessel activity.

- Abstract
Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of triple therapy with verteporfin photodynamic therapy (PDT), dexamethasone, and bevacizumab in choroidal neovascularization (CNV) secondary to age-related macular degeneration (AMD)., Methods: This prospective, noncomparative, interventional case series included 104 patients. Verteporfin PDT was administered with a reduced light dose (42 J/cm, accomplished by light delivery time of 70 seconds). Approximately 16 hours after PDT, dexamethasone (800 microg) and bevacizumab (1.5 mg) were injected intravitreally. Patients attended follow-up visits every 6 weeks, undergoing visual acuity and intraocular pressure measurement, slit-lamp and ophthalmoscopic examination, and optical coherence tomography (OCT). Fluorescein angiography was performed every 3 months or earlier if OCT showed significant edema., Results: All 104 patients received one triple therapy cycle (5 patients received a second triple treatment due to remaining CNV activity). The triple therapy was complemented in 18 patients (17.3%) by an additional intravitreal injection of bevacizumab. The mean follow-up period was 40 weeks (range, 22-60 weeks). Mean increase in visual acuity was 1.8 lines (P < 0.01). Mean decrease in retinal thickness was 182 microm (P < 0.01). No serious adverse events have been observed., Conclusion: In most patients with CNV due to AMD, triple therapy results in significant and sustained visual acuity improvement after only one cycle of treatment. In addition, the therapy offers a good safety profile, potentially lower cost compared with therapies that must be administered more frequently, and convenience for patients.

- Abstract
Although the physeal cartilage is considered resistant to invasion by metaphyseal osteosarcoma, no objective clinical proof exists to support this view. Fourteen cases of osteosarcoma of long bones in patients ranging in age from ten to 19 years with open physes were reviewed to determine the incidence of transphyseal spread. The physeal cartilage was not crossed in only two cases. In the remaining 12 cases the tumor crossed the cartilaginous plate partially or completely, remaining in the epiphysis in seven and crossing the articular cartilage and involving the joint in five. Histologic sections showed that increased vascularity occurs initially, followed by osteoclastic and chondroclastic activity at the physeal plate with subsequent tumor tissue invasion. The incidence of transphyseal spread in the three published series (total of 64 cases, including the present 14 cases) is 81.2%. This is contrary to the often published unsupported statements of others. Transphyseal spread of osteosarcoma is the rule rather than the exception.
