The internationalization of doctoral programs is a relatively recent phenomenon, where first world countries exhibit the best results in the training of graduates. This contrasts with the incipient results of the few developing countries that have implemented this policy, mainly due to lack of resources and experience. This work aims to establish a theoretical-practical framework for the process of internationalization of doctoral programs, in pursuit of improving the quality and relevance of the profile of its graduates. The research used the dialectical paradigm, for which theoretical and empirical methods were used, among which are: analysis and synthesis, induction and deduction, documentary analysis, and interviews with specialists who have lived experiences in this regard. The constructs internationalization, internationalization of postgraduate and research, and internationalization of doctoral programs were systematized, which made it possible to establish a theoretical-practical framework on the internationalization of doctoral programs. A set of strategic actions is offered that makes it possible to internationalize doctoral programs and, consequently, improve the quality and relevance of graduates.

Among its functions, the Center for the Study of Educational Sciences of Pinar del Río leads research in the field of university management, of students inserted in the training processes of the master and doctoral academic programs in Educational Sciences. The master and doctoral students presented inconsistencies in the theoretical systematizations, when addressing the research objects related to the management of university processes. In general, they focused in an atomized and unconnected way the contents of the management of the process they were researching. For the research carried out, the authors of this paper used a system of theoretical and empirical methods, namely: documentary analysis, scientific observation, interviews, analysis and synthesis, induction and deduction, which allowed them to fulfill the objective of approaching the management of university processes and their dimensions, which serves researchers as a guide for the elaboration of their starting theoretical frameworks. A theoretical foundation was presented as a result of the systematization carried out, which contributed to giving organization and coherence to the theoretical frameworks of the research related to the management of university processes. This work constitutes one of the results of the research project on the management of university processes at the University of Pinar del Río.

Despite the fact that educational management has evolved over time according to the needs and demands of its environment, context and processes, there are still dimensions that have been little investigated in university management. An insufficiently studied dimension is information management, as well as its respective scientific and technological information services. Based on this research gap, the present study aims to identify the interrelationships that exist between the dimensions of university management and the dimensions of information management, which influence the improvement of the different scientific and technological information services of a university. The research was based on the materialist dialectical method, and fundamentally applied the logical historical methods, analysis and synthesis, modeling together with the structural systemic method. As a result, the identification, characterization and graphic representation of the main interrelations that are manifested between the dimensions of university management and the dimensions of information management were obtained. Based on this, reference services were defined as the most relevant type of service for universities. Classifying them into: training services, information services and guidance services. Achieving in this way, the coherence of the information management with the university management for the strengthening of the substantive processes of a university, from the definition of services that involve both the administrative, managers, professors and students, as well as society and university environment.

The continuous improvement of the quality of professional training, aimed at sustainable local development, is one of the social tasks of the contemporary university. Consequently, Higher Education institutions need to diagnose the management of the training processes they develop. This article intends to offer a conception for the diagnosis of the management of the implementation of the "E" syllabuses, in the University of Pinar del Río "Hermanos Saíz Montes de Oca", that reassesses the sustainable local development in the initial professional formation and guarantees the real knowledge about this process with truthful and sufficient information, that allows redirecting it according to the fulfillment of the established purposes. The methods used were the documentary analysis and the Vigotskian methodology of the complex units of analysis that allowed to establish the main relations and components of this process. As a result, the study variable was defined and five dimensions were identified: institutional, administrative, pedagogical, community and methodological, with the corresponding indicators. The methods proposed for carrying out the diagnosis were documentary analysis, observation, survey, interview and pedagogical test to be measured with a two-level scale: satisfactory and unsatisfactory. This conception of the diagnosis of the management of the "E" syllabus is an effective tool to improve the quality of university professional formation in Cuba, which is particularly relevant in times when they demand curricular flexibility, essentiality of contents, self-learning and impact on local development with sustainability criteria.

Objective: To identify the teaching‐learning process characteristics of Oral Pathology and Medicine (OP&M) related to oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs) and oral cancer (OC), in the dental schools' curricula in Mexico, to analyze the approach given to this topic worldwide, and to provide the possible solution strategies. Materials and Methods: Questionnaires were sent to OP&M deans and professors from public Mexican Universities to explore the curriculum and academic profile of the dental schools. The recommendations gathered from a workshop with expert professors on the challenges in OPMD/OC teaching were reported. Results: Twenty‐two dental schools participated (22 deans, 30 professors). The most widely used strategies were clinical‐case resolving (86%) and presentations (73%). Although 77.3% of the programs included maxillofacial lesions, only 40.9% contemplated OPMD/OC. Only 45% of the programs developed community activities for early OC detection. The workshop recommendations were (i) multidisciplinary approach to OPMD/OC teaching, involving OP&M professors in other dental and nondental courses; (ii) implementation of the most effective teaching techniques (currently, problem‐based learning and clinical‐case presentation) in OP&M curricula; (iii) education of OP&M professors on teaching‐learning processes. Conclusions: These recommendations from the Mexican context, integrated with similar experiences from other countries could contribute to develop a unique, internationally acknowledged OP&M curriculum. This study aimed at implementing a comprehensive strategy for the multiphysics simulation of the osmotic evaporation process applied in the concentration of passion fruit juice. The phenomena of mass and momentum transfer were analyzed in Comsol® and Matlab®, using a two-dimensional axial geometry as a simplification of the membrane module. Computer simulations were validated through comparisons with experimental data obtained from osmotic evaporation of passion fruit juice previously ultrafiltrated. The juice was concentrated to 52.25 ± 0.36 (°Brix) of soluble solids, reaching a final flux of 0.63 (kg/m2h) after 6 hours. The concentrate retained the organoleptic and physicochemical quality characteristics of the original juice when it was reconstituted in water. The models and simulations developed can be used to describe, analyze, and efficiently improve the osmotic evaporation process applied to the concentration of juices.

General Medicine - Abstract

Osmotic evaporation is a modification of traditional processes using membranes; where the effect of a vapor pressure differential, produced by a highly concentrated solution of extraction, water is transferred as vapor through a membrane that acts as a hydrophobic body. This membrane technology is presented as a great alternative for processing exotic fruits, producing concentrates that can be used in the daily diet, being more comfortable to use, reducing transportation costs and increasing the shelf life. This process has many advantages compared to traditional operations, allowing operated at atmospheric pressure and low temperature, ideal for heat-sensitive products.

- Abstract
Introduction:Several infectious diseases can present nail manifestations, which may be useful for diagnosis and prognosis, and only a few reports have been made regarding monkeypox (mpox). The objective of this study was to describe the clinical characteristics of nail alterations in patients living with HIV coinfected with mpox. Methods:A prospective, cross-sectional study included patients living with HIV/AIDS, coinfected with mpox. We examined all 20 nails in search of nail plate alterations. Patients were divided into two groups, with and without nail disease, and the CD4 count was noted according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) classification. A χ2or Fisher’s exact test for qualitative variables and Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal-Wallis tests with post hoc Bonferroni test for quantitative variables were used to compare them. Data were analyzed with the SPSS Statistics 25 software. Results:Sixty-nine patients were included. The frequency of nail involvement was 58%. Papulonodular lesions were the most frequent type identified, with 21 cases (30.4%). A significant difference was observed between patients with nail disease versus median CD4 count (160 vs. 700/mm3; p= 0.002) and median HIV viral load (45,000 vs. 900/mL; p= 0.009). When comparing the characteristics of the nail lesions with the CDC Classification System for HIV infection by the CD4 count, a significant difference was observed in foot involvement, splinter hemorrhages, papulo-nodular lesions, anonychia, onychomadesis, acute paronychia, and nail bed ulcer-atrophy (p< 0.05). Conclusions:The frequency of nail lesions is high in patients living with HIV coinfected with mpox. In addition, they tend to be more destructive in patients with lower CD4 counts and higher viral loads.

Introduction: the training process in the pedagogical studies constitutes a priority of the Ministry of Higher Education, so that the training of a Biology-Chemistry professor is included into this purpose. Shortcomings in the management of this process result in the underdevelopment of professional skills for the graduates of this pedagogical specialty, having insufficiencies in their environmental education and in the conservation and care of the biological diversity. Objective: to provide a methodological alternative to enhance the teaching-learning process of Biology-Chemistry Professors, mainly from the teaching activities of biology subjects and fieldwork; making emphasis on the training of environmental conservation and the care of biological diversity, as well as. Method: the methodology responds to a dialectical conception, which is based on the dialectical-materialist method; which is supported on a system of methods from the theoretical and empirical levels. Results: a systematization of theoretical and practical aspects of the project method and problem-solving teaching is performed; responding to the teaching-learning process of biology subjects and the fieldwork from the beginning of the training process of Biology-Chemistry professors, focusing on environmental education and the care of the biodiversity. Conclusions: environmental training is an indivisible component of the comprehensive training of professionals in Cuban universities, so it is necessary to find the resources to achieve a higher level of motivation to search knowledge and to improve their professional performance.

Background: The diagnostic approaches and therapeutic strategies of atopic dermatitis (AD) are generally inconsistent among physicians and health institutions. Objective: To develop a consensus statement among experts to reduce the variations in practice regarding the diagnosis and treatment of patients ≥ 12 years with AD to improve their care. Methods: Systematic literature search in PubMed and GREAT. With methodological support and using the Delphi method, a formal consensus was developed among 16 experts in Dermatology and Allergology, based on the current evidence and its applicability in the Mexican context. Apart from intense electronic communication, several issues of disagreement were discussed in two face-to-face meetings. Results: The clinical experts reached consensus on 46 statements related to the definition, classification, diagnostic strategies and treatment of AD. For the diagnosis we suggest the Williams criteria and for severity scoring the SCORAD (by the doctor) and POEM (by the patient). In addition to general care and treatment education (workshops), we suggest four steps for treatment, depending on severity: 1. Topical treatment with anti-inflammatory agents (and systemic: antihistamines/antileukotrienes —low level evidence—) 2. Phototherapy, 3. Cyclosporin A and 4. Dupilumab, with the possibility of managing this biological earlier on if a fast effect is needed. In extrinsic AD we suggest evaluating the addition of allergen immunotherapy or an elimination diet, if there is an IgE-mediated respiratory or food allergy, respectively. Conclusion: The panel of experts reached consensus on relevant aspects of AD with a focus on the transcultural adaptation of recent evidence.

Nowadays, there is an emphasis on the use of qualitative meth ods in the educational research, what contradicts the research dialectical paradigm, which supports the qualitative and quantitative unity. The essence of the phenomena which are studied in the education and pedagogical sciences requires the use of qualita tive methods. The focus group method is an example of those methods that could be used to find and evaluate educational research variables, because of the opinions some members of a group can give. Finally, some suggestions to employ the focus group method are given for the educational research.

The combination of first‐row transition compounds or nanoparticles with silica‐based supports offers a great possibility for catalyst design. In particular, iron, cobalt and nickel‐based materials rise in attention due to their availability, low cost and interesting reactivity, enabling transformations that are not possible with noble metals. Different support strategies exist where mesoporous silica‐based supports are of particular interest due to their morphology and stability. Their high surface area, tunable pore size and volume and both, thermal and chemical stability, are of great interest in terms of catalyst adsorption and reactants diffusion. The state of the art on the catalyzed transformations to attain fine chemicals is nowadays explored from a sustainable point of view. However, up to now, it is difficult to predict or understand the key features in silica supported first‐row transition metals‐based catalyst, despite the fact that there are widely applied. The rational tailoring of nanosized materials immobilized on silica‐based supports and their application in catalysis requires to be reviewed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
