Abstract: The article presents a conference paper assessing the financial management of gas and electric utilities by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), granted under Section 7 of the Public Utility Holding Company Act of 1935. The article presents the statutory basis for financial regulation, the administrative discretion by the SEC, and the issue of competitive bidding. The author contends that SEC control has not proven to be better than private control.

Abstract: In this paper multiple criteria decision making approach of alternative fuels for waste collection vehicles in southeast region of Serbia was presented. Eight alternative fuels and advanced vehicle technologies were ranked according to thirteen criteria, including financial, socio-technical, and environmental. Assessment of alternatives was performed by using the weighted aggregated sum product assessment method and results were verified using multi-objective optimization on the basis of ratio analysis method. Considered criteria were obtained from previous researches and by assessment of professional experts from manufacturing industries, public utility companies, and academics institutions. The analysis showed that both biodiesel fuels - derived from used cooking oil or from vegetable oils are the best alternative fuels for Serbian waste collection vehicles in this point of time. Compressed natural gas-powered vehicles were also ranked high in this analysis, but due to the lack of financial capability for their purchase (especially in southeast region of Serbia), their gradual introduction into the waste collection fleet was proposed. Abstract: Among business valuation methodologies, the most widely used models are based on discounted cash flow and residual income methodologies. Each model has its own particular characteristics and supplies different information. But, theoretically, they should give equivalent financial results if the same data base is used. The objective of this study is to determine if there are methodological conflicts among the models when the same basic data is used or if the results are the same. A real case analysis of a public utility company was carried out, using the discounted cash flow and the residual income models, the results were compared to the negotiated price, which was adjusted to represent 100% of equity. Abstract: The article explores the contributions of public utility holding companies (PUHC) form of organization on the financial development of the U.S. electric utility industry. The authors demonstrate that PUHC, as a form of economic organization, has overcame the regulatory and organizational obstacles hindering the consolidation of the electric power industry. They also show that PUHC can create financial market liquidity and thus, lower capital cost for its constituent companies, leading firms in the electricity business to choose holding companies as their dominant form of organization.
