Unerfüllter Kinderwunsch ist weltweit ein bedeutsames Problem. Die psychologischen Auswirkungen dieser Entwicklung werden meist unterschätzt, während der Mythos der „psychogenen Infertilität" hartnäckig persistiert. In diesem Beitrag wird zunächst eine Übersicht über grundlegende Fakten zur Thematik gegeben, bevor die psychologischen Auswirkungen sowohl der Diagnosestellung Infertilität als auch der therapeutischen Optionen aufgezeigt werden. Psychologische Aspekte der Familienbildung mit Hilfe Dritter und der weiteren Entwicklung nach Kindsgeburt bzw. ohne Kind werden skizziert, wie auch ein kurzer Einblick in allgemeine und spezifische Beratungsinhalte bei unerfülltem Kinderwunsch gegeben. Der Beitrag schließt mit Überlegungen zu möglichen psychologischen Konsequenzen der weiteren medizinischen Entwicklungen in diesem Bereich. Summary: The unfulfilled desire for children is a significant problem worldwide. The psychological effects of this development are usually underestimated, while the myth of "psychogenic infertility" stubbornly persists. This article first provides an overview of the basic facts on the subject before highlighting the psychological effects of both the diagnosis of infertility and the therapeutic options. Psychological aspects of "third-party" reproduction and further developments after childbirth or without a child are discussed, followed by a brief outline of the general and specific subject matter addressed in infertility counselling. Aim Methods Results Conclusions To explore reactions to and preferences for words/phrases used in communications about diabetes among adults with diabetes and parents of children with diabetes.Eligible adults (aged 18+ years) living with diabetes, or parenting a child with diabetes, were recruited via social media to complete an online cross‐sectional, mixed‐methods survey. Study‐specific items were used to examine 22 commonly used diabetes words/phrases in terms of participants' cognitive perceptions (‘helpful’, ‘respectful’, ‘accurate’, ‘harmful’, ‘judgmental’ and ‘inaccurate’) and emotional reactions (‘optimistic’, ‘motivated’, ‘supported’, ‘understood’, ‘offended’, ‘blamed’, ‘distressed’ and ‘angry’). Open‐ended questions invited further feedback on (non‐)preferred language and its impact(s). Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and inductive thematic analysis.Participants (N = 865) included adults with diabetes (type 1: n = 519; type 2: n = 180, other types: n = 48) and parents of children with diabetes (n = 118). Words/phrases most commonly associated with negative perceptions/emotional responses were ‘non‐compliant’ (60% judgmental; 47% felt blamed) and ‘…good/bad’ (54% judgmental; 43% blamed). Positive perceptions were reported for ‘managing diabetes’ (73% helpful, 47% felt understood), ‘person with diabetes’ (72% respectful; 49% understood), ‘…within/outside target range’ (60% helpful, 44% understood), and ‘condition’ (58% respectful; 43% understood). Participants' qualitative responses illuminated perceptions, experiences and impacts across five themes: (1) accuracy and simplicity; (2) identity; (3) blame, judgement and stigma; (4) respect and trust and; (5) support, hope and feeling understood. Themes were consistent across diabetes types.These findings provide novel evidence into (non‐)preferred, and potential (negative and positive) impacts of, commonly used diabetes words/phrases, supporting the international #LanguageMatters movement. Aims Methods Results Conclusions Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems are standard of care for youth with type 1 diabetes with the goal of spending >70% time in range (TIR; 70–180 mg/dL, 3.9–10 mmol/L). We aimed to understand paediatric CGM user experiences with TIR metrics considering recent discussion of shifting to time in tight range (TITR; >50% time between 70 and 140 mg/dL, 3.9 and 7.8 mmol/L).Semi‐structured interviews and focus groups with adolescents with type 1 diabetes and parents of youth with type 1 diabetes focused on experiences with TIR goals and reactions to TITR. Groups and interviews were audio‐recorded, transcribed and analysed using content analysis.Thirty participants (N = 19 parents: age 43.6 ± 5.3 years, 79% female, 47% non‐Hispanic White, 20 ± 5 months since child's diagnosis; N = 11 adolescents: age 15.3 ± 2 years, 55% female, 55% non‐Hispanic White, 16 ± 3 months since diagnosis) attended. Participants had varying levels of understanding of TIR. Some developed personally preferred glucose ranges. Parents often aimed to surpass 70% TIR. Many described feelings of stress and disappointment when they did not meet a TIR goal. Concerns about TITR included increased stress and burden; risk of hypoglycaemia; and family conflict. Some participants said TITR would not change their daily lives; others said it would improve their diabetes management. Families requested care team support and a clear scientific rationale for TITR.The wealth of CGM data creates frequent opportunities for assessing diabetes management and carries implications for management burden. Introduction: The popularity of vegetarian and vegan diets is linked to various motivations, such as health, ethics, ecology, and social and religious influence. India has the highest proportion of vegetarians and vegans. The practise of these diets is linked to moral and health reasons and environmental concerns. Vegetarianism may also be associated with eating disorders such as orthorexia (ON). Aim: The main aim of this study was to determine the psychosocial aspects of vegetarian diets. Understanding these aspects is crucial for identifying potential risks and developing effective interventions. This study investigated the reasons for following vegetarian diets, the duration of dietary adherence, the occurrence of feelings of restriction in selected situations, and the risk of orthorexia and other eating disorders. Methods: A questionnaire survey was conducted among 186 individuals (82 vegetarians and 104 traditional dieters) between October 2023 and April 2024. The survey was administered via a Computer-Assisted Web Interview (CAWI) using Google Forms, distributed through social media, forums, and private messages. The inclusion criteria for the study group included consent, an age over 18, and a vegetarian diet, excluding those with eating disorders or diseases requiring strict diet therapy. The control group criteria were similar, excluding vegetarians and those requiring special diets. Four unreliable questionnaires were excluded from the analysis. The survey consisted of four sections: metric data, the ORTO-15 questionnaire, the EAT-26 questionnaire, and the TFEQ-13 questionnaire. Results: The main motivations for following vegetarian diets were ethical and environmental (86.9%) and health (32.1%) reasons. Over half of the vegetarians had been following a plant-based diet for over five years. Vegetarians were more likely to feel restricted in restaurants and when grocery shopping. The ORTO-15 results indicate a higher risk of orthorexia among vegetarians (48.8% vs. 29.4% in the control group; p = 0.00673). The EAT-26 questionnaire showed a higher, but not statistically significant, risk of eating disorders among vegetarians (23.8% vs. 14.7%; p = 0.11391). The TFEQ-13 showed no significant differences between groups (Subscale 1: food restriction, p = 0.77279; Subscale 2: lack of control in overeating, p = 0.91935; Subscale 3: eating under the influence of emotions, p = 0.16612). Conclusions: This study concluded that ethical and environmental considerations and a belief in health benefits mainly drive vegetarians. An analysis of BMI revealed no significant differences between groups. The ORTO-15 results suggest a higher risk of orthorexia among vegetarians. The EAT-26 indicated a higher, but not statistically significant, risk of eating disorders among vegetarians and vegans. The TFEQ-13 showed no significant differences in restrictive eating, lack of control in overeating, and emotional eating. AimDesignMethodsResultsConclusionThis study aimed to assess the lived experiences of adolescent pregnant young women, with a specific focus on the psychosocial aspect of adolescent pregnancy, using a phenomenological approach.Employing the phenomenological research method, semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted between 3 August and 18 August 2023 with 15 young women (mean age = 21.86 years; SD = 1.06) living in a province in eastern Turkey who had undergone adolescent pregnancy 3–5 years before.The criterion sampling method, a form of purposive sampling, was used to form the sample group. Interviews were carried out until data saturation was reached. All interviews were recorded and transcribed, and thematic analysis was utilised to analyse the data. The study adhered to the COREQ checklist for reporting.Through data analysis, three main categories (reflections on adolescent pregnancy, challenges due to adolescent pregnancy, and effects of adolescent pregnancy) and nine sub-themes (emotions, roles and responsibilities, perception of social support, cognitive, emotional, behavioural, mental, physical, and social) emerged.Our study highlights the adverse psychosocial impact of adolescent pregnancy on young women. Young women who got married at an early age before attaining full physical, social, and psychological maturity grappled with the substantial burdens of adolescent pregnancy and adjusting to their new roles. The study’s implications are significant, emphasising the necessity of addressing the psychosocial facets of adolescent marriage and pregnancy, and gaining valuable insights for the future. The primary practice adopted to reduce Covid-19 contamination is social distancing (SD). SD had significant consequences on alcohol/drug use, quality of life, and psychosocial aspects. In the university community specifically, SD produces a collective traumatic event with changes in the work routine by the suspension of presence. This study aims to identify and analyze the associations of increased alcohol and marijuana consumption on the quality of life and psychosocial aspects of the university community (students, professors, and technical and administrative staff) at a Brazilian public university during SD due to Covid-19 pandemic. This descriptive and cross-sectional study used an online questionnaire to obtain information from 2790 university community participants. Data were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics version 22. The analysis included descriptive associations performed using Spearman's correlation coefficient and p < 0.05 was taken as statistically significant. The participants' majority was 62% female, 95.4% students, 73% were 17–25 years old, 33.4% had income between 1 and 3 minimum wage, and 48% of the university community "totally adhered to SD." The increased alcohol consumption during SD was associated with a worsening in quality of life (p = 0.001), health satisfaction (p = 0.015), the meaning of life (p = 0.040), ability to concentrate (p = 0.001), satisfaction with yourself (p = 0.029), and frequency of negative feelings (p = 0.001); in contrast, increased alcohol use improved satisfaction with peer support (p = 0.042), as well as increased marijuana use improved satisfaction with sex life (p < 0.001). The increased alcohol use was higher in women (30.5%) than in men (26.7%) and was negatively associated with more quality of life and psychosocial aspects among women than men. Students were the segment that presented the highest frequency of associations with increased alcohol and/or marijuana use in the three domains analyzed. This study innovated by associating increased alcohol and/or marijuana use with worsening quality of life and psychosocial aspects rather than evaluating them apart. Future studies must identify whether this association between increased alcohol use, mainly, and the worsening quality of life and psychosocial aspects during the SD period is maintained or improved with the return to face-to-face activities at the university, with particular attention to women and students. Objective: The purpose of this study was to conduct a scoping review to examine and summarize the characteristics of research related to mental health (MH) screenings and/or referrals to treatment in dental practices. Methods: We followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta‐Analyses guidelines for Scoping Reviews and searched multiple databases for terms connected with dental care, MH concerns, screening, and referral. Included articles: (1) described care provided in a dental practice, (2) described a situation where the patient is experiencing the potential MH problem, (3) did not involve dental anxiety exclusively, and (4) involved some form of MH screening and/or referral to treatment. Article analysis included a summary of key study characteristics, types of evidence, study design, and central concepts and definitions. Results: The search generated 2050 records, with 26 ultimately included. Most studies involved only adults (22, 85%), but only three (12%) reported on rurality (two urban; one mixed) and only two each (8%) reported race or ethnicity. Fifteen (58%) articles were prospective and 11 (42%) were retrospective. The studies varied widely in study designs, from 11 (42%) cross‐sectional methodologies to only one (4%) randomized controlled trial. Thirty‐four screening tools were used to screen for symptoms of 43 MH conditions, with depression and anxiety screened for most frequently. Few articles discussed making referrals, practice workflows, or follow‐up outcomes. Conclusions: Included studies provide evidence of viable options for dental practitioners regarding MH screening, referring, and conducting follow‐up, but lack specificity regarding these processes. Overall, more research is needed to clarify what workflows are most efficient for dental practitioners and efficacious in identifying patients with MH concerns. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The psychosocial aspects of type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) are still a neglected area, especially among children in India. This study was planned to evaluate and screen the children with T1DM for family support, symptoms of anxiety and depression, and to assess the role of these psychosocial aspects in glycemic control. Methods: This cross-sectional observational questionnaire-based study conducted over a year included 70 children aged 8–18 years diagnosed with T1DM for at least a year. The child and caregiver answered pre-validated standard questionnaires and the children underwent HbA1C testing once every 3 months. The methods used for inferential statistical analysis were reliability analysis, correlation analysis, χ2 test, and factor analysis. Results: Poorer glycemic control was noted by children raised by single parents (mean HbA1C 14.4, p < 0.001). It was also noted that children whose mothers had formal education beyond 10th standard had better glycemic control. 14 children (20%) had anxiety/depression of medium to high severity. The relationship between family conflict and glycemic control was not significant in either the parent or the child scoring. Conclusion: Children with T1DM experience considerable stress related to the diagnosis and management. Many families experience significant depression and anxiety which leads to increase in family conflicts which have a negative effect on parenting, the child’s quality of life, and their glycemic control.

Children with transfusion-dependent thalassemia experience stressful conditions related to chronic anemia, repeated blood transfusions, and iron chelation adherence. They are vulnerable to emotional and behavioral problems and psychosocial disturbances. An observational evaluation of psychosocial issues in children with TDTs aged 4–18 using Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaires (SDQ). Psychosocial part in children with TDTs often experiences difficulties in childhood under 10 years old, compared to adolescents (11–18 years) for emotional symptoms and conduct problems. Boys and girls had similar psychosocial problems regarding emotional symptoms, conduct problems, hyperactivity-inatttention, peer relationship problems, and prosocial behavior. In a quarter of cases, they had emotional symptoms, conduct, and hyperactivity-inattention issues, especially in younger children. Interestingly, younger children have more problems than adolescence in peer relations even though they are still under strict parental supervision. Difficulties in emotion, conduct, and hyperactivity would affect their relationship life. Children may try to be accepted by their social environment (prosocial) even though they realize that there are problems in their emotional life and peer relationships. Regular screening of the psychosocial aspects should be followed by counseling because regular transfusion and iron chelation are necessary for long-term management. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Metalloproteinases (MPs) are zinc-dependent enzymes with proteolytic activity and a variety of functions in the pathophysiology of human diseases. The main objectives of this review are to analyze a specific family of MPs, the matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), in the most common chronic and complex diseases that affect patients' social lives and to better understand the nature of the associations between MMPs and the psychosocial environment. In accordance with the PRISMA extension for a scoping review, an examination was carried out. A collection of 24 studies was analyzed, focusing on the molecular mechanisms of MMP and their connection to the manifestation of social aspects in human disease. The complexity of the relationship between MMP and social problems is presented via an interdisciplinary approach based on complexity paradigm as a new approach for conceptualizing knowledge in health research. Finally, two implications emerge from the study: first, the psychosocial states of individuals have a profound impact on their overall health and disease conditions, which implies the importance of adopting a holistic perspective on human well-being, encompassing both physical and psychosocial aspects. Second, the use of MPs as biomarkers may provide physicians with valuable tools for a better understanding of disease when used in conjunction with "sociomarkers" to develop mathematical predictive models. Cancer as a whole, but especially childhood cancer, creates a number of psychological, social, and family problems as well as practical and financial issues, which every parent is called upon to solve. This study focuses on childhood cancer and aims at a thorough analysis of the physical/organic, psychological, and social problems associated with the parents and relatives of a child with cancer. The special element in pediatric neoplasms is not only the vulnerable population target group, but also the set of secondary effects it has on the environment of the sick child. The research was conducted on a sample of 133 families of children with cancer, and the results were displayed after statistical processing and data analysis with R statistical software. The results of the study confirm with statistically significant data the effect of childhood cancer on the physical, mental, and social health and behavior of the parent. Thus, 53.8% of the respondents stated 5 and above on the 7-point Likert scale for fatigue issues, 55.6% for sleep disorders, 78.1% for stress, and 82.7% for fear. The key findings are characterized by high specificity as it is a unique study that reveals particular aspects of the Greek parent's behavior, mind, and body during the period of their child's illness. Conclusion: The effects of childhood illnesses, particularly when they are severe, such as neoplasms, present a looming threat, ushering in a multitude of adverse alterations in the daily lives of the affected child's family. What is Known – What is New: • We know the effects that a childhood illness brings not only to the sick child, but also to the entire family circle. The new element in the present research is that these data reflect the situation in Greece, for which the research data in this area is quite limited. Aim: To explore young adults' experiences of living with type 1 diabetes in the transition to adulthood, including experiences of the transfer from paediatric to adult care. Design: A qualitative approach was used. Method: Ten young adults, six women and four men, aged 19–29 years, participated. Participants were recruited at their regular diabetes clinic from spring 2021 to spring 2022. Semi‐structured interviews were transcribed and analysed using qualitative content analysis. Findings: Dreaming of being nurtured towards self‐reliance was the overarching theme. Personal experiences of the transition to adulthood, including the transfer from paediatric to adult care, were described in terms of struggling to find balance in daily life, dealing with feelings of being different, being gradually supported to achieve independence, and wishing to be approached as a unique person in healthcare. Conclusion: In healthcare, it is important to emphasize not only diabetes‐related factors but also emotional and psychosocial aspects of life connected to the transition to adulthood, including the transfer to adult care. The young adults wished to be seen as unique persons in healthcare during their emerging adulthood and should therefore be supported to achieve self‐reliance through personal preparations for new challenges and for the consequences of transitioning to adulthood. Specialist nurses can provide appropriate knowledge and leadership. Implications for the Profession: These findings can guide nurse specialists in support for emerging adults to achieve self‐reliance and indicate the importance of person‐centred care when experiencing transition and transfer. Aim. The aim of this cross-sectional study was to evaluate quality of life (QoL) and selected aspects of patients with chronic heart failure. Material and methods. The Minnesota Living with Heart Failure Questionnaire was used for an assessment of QoL. Data were obtained on depression, illness perception, social support, self-sufficiency, and severity of heart failure according to NYHA classifi cation. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics, the Kruskal–Wallis and Mann-Whitney test, and the Spearman correlation coefficient. Linear regression analysis was also performed. Results. Correlation analysis (p < 0.05) indicated that patients with reduced self-suffi ciency (r = -0.3529) and patients with more severe heart failure (r = 0.2642) reported a poorer QoL. Worse the illness perception (r = 0.4113), more frequent depression (r = 0.5470) and a worse subjective assessment of the state of health (r = 0.4394) indicated a worse QoL. The predictors of the total QoL score were depression (p = 0.000), illness perception (p = 0.001), self-sufficiency (p = 0.008), and subjective assessment of the state of health (p = 0.005). Conclusions. A comprehensive approach with an emphasis on improving QoL is necessary in the care of patients with chronic heart failure. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

BACKGROUND: Burnout syndrome has been extensively studied in different health science professions. It has been less studied in physiotherapy than in professions such as medicine. Moreover, it is not known how the working condition influences this syndrome. OBJECTIVE: The main objective of this study was to compare the burnout index between contract and freelance physiotherapists in the private sector in the Community of Madrid, Spain. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was performed with 174 participants divided into 2 groups; one group was composed of contract physiotherapists (n = 87) and the other group was composed of freelance physiotherapists (n = 87). A Mann–Whitney U test was performed for comparison between the groups. Spearman's correlation coefficient was used to analyze the correlations between the burnout syndrome index and the secondary variables. RESULTS: There were statistically significant differences when comparing the groups, with a large effect size for the burnout index with a higher rate among contract physiotherapists (78 [71–84.75]) than in freelance physiotherapists (61.5 [55–72.75]).There were also significant differences in the type of patients treated, number of patients treated per day, time spent per patient, and the annual salary range between the contract and freelance physiotherapists. CONCLUSION: Contract physiotherapists who participated in this study had a significantly higher burnout syndrome index than freelance physiotherapists. Other socio-occupational variables were also found to be related to the burnout syndrome index in freelance physiotherapists and contract physiotherapists. The results of this study could be of interest for new occupational health strategies to reduce the burnout index in contract physiotherapists. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: In this research, we analyze and integrate the qualitative empirical studies of father involvement, specifically examining his involvement in the multiple functions and dimensions of care during early childhood. Background: Father involvement is a relevant social and scientific topic given the changes in fathers' role in contemporary families. Fatherhood involving presence, affection, support, nurturance, as well as prioritizing child's needs, seems to be a perspective dominantly shared by parents. However, studies tend to focus on intact White middle‐class families, neglecting other backgrounds and family configurations, which may be easily examined through qualitative approaches. Method: A database search was performed using a combination of relevant keywords in the title, abstract, and keywords. Results: Initially, 1,102 records were identified, with 58 manuscripts being assessed for eligibility. Finally, 16 articles were included. The analysis of the corpus identified three main themes: (a) the definition of father involvement and the description of main dimensions in which he was involved, (b) main challenges and facilitators of father involvement, and (c) the influence of intergenerational values on it. Conclusions: Findings provide insights about the multiple dimensions and roles related to father involvement, and they open new avenues for future research. Implications: The results reflected the state of the art about father involvement in qualitative research. Thus, more research is needed to understand the association between economic vulnerability and suicide. The study aimed to generate further knowledge about over-indebted individuals who have attempted suicide at least once. Participants were a Swedish sample comprising 641 over-indebted individuals. The inclusion criteria were that the participants should be indebted and have been subjected to debt collection measures and/or seizure orders by the Swedish Enforcement Authority. Participants answered questionnaires regarding socio-demographic variables, debt size, history of suicide attempt, critical life events, and social contacts, and filled the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). In the statistical analyses, Chi2 test for independence and t-test was used, and binary logistic regression to adjust for the confounding effects of the variables on each other. The analysis revealed that nearly one in five (19.3%, N = 123) had attempted suicide at least once. A larger part of the respondents who had a history of suicide attempts reported that they were living alone (OR 2.30 (95% CI 1.34–3.89, p =.002). Many of those living alone were women (χ2 (1, n = 121) = 4.88, p = 0.03, ɸ = 0.22). The results of the current study point to the fact that economic vulnerability is an important psychosocial aspect to take into serious consideration concerning mental health and suicide prevention. The purpose of this study was to investigate the psychosocial aspects of the learning environment in English as a Foreign Language classes. To attain this purpose, descriptive research design was employed. A stratified random sampling was used to ensure the proportion of male and female students while simple random sampling was used to select the participants from each stratum. The study involved the gathering of data through What Is Happening In this Class questionnaire from 371 students. Descriptive (mean and SD) and inferential (MANOVA and ANOVA) statistics were computed to analyze the collected data. The results show that students perceived the psychosocial aspects of the learning environment of their English classes positively though they perceived the aspect of task orientation more positively than the other aspects of the psychosocial environment. This implies that the activities related to the task orientation aspect of the learning environment were often practiced whereas the activities related to aspects of cohesiveness, teacher support, involvement, cooperation, and equity were sometimes practiced in English classes. Female and male students also did not depict significant differences in their perceptions of the English classroom psychosocial environment. The study concludes that the psychosocial environments of the English classes need improvement for students to learn better.

Introduction: People's work has always transformed the world; however, it has also posed many risks and diseases. Likewise, work has been affected by globalization, technology, and the COVID-19 health crisis. There have been transformations in employment structures and working conditions, which have become more demanding. These conditions have predisposed negative psychosocial factors that threaten health, causing occupational illnesses and accidents and, consequently, poor work performance. Objective: To determine the relationship between psychosocial factors and work performance in employees of a private educational institution in Lima. Methods: Quantitative approach, non-experimental, cross-sectional, and correlational design. A total of 120 employees of the private educational institution participated in the study, according to a non-probabilistic sampling method. The Psychosocial Factors at Work Questionnaire and the "Individual Work Performance Questionnaire," shared digitally via e-mail, were used. Results: Of the total respondents, 52.50% had a good perception of psychosocial factors; however, a poor perception was identified in the dimensions "work demands" (63.30%) and "satisfaction with performance compensation" (52.50%). The present study aimed to verify the association between psychosocial aspects (social capital) and food patterns in adult women. A cross-sectional, population-based study was conducted with a representative sample of 1,128 women, aged 20 to 69 years, living in the urban area of the municipality of São Leopoldo, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, in 2015. The food patterns were identified based on the frequency of food intake and classified as: healthy (fruits, vegetables, and whole foods), at-risk (ultraprocessed foods), and Brazilian (rice and beans), while social capital was evaluated using a collective efficacy scale. It was observed that 18.9% of the sample was classified with high collective efficacy. After adjusting for potential confounding factors, a 44% higher probability was observed for adherence to the healthy pattern (PR [prevalence ratio] = 1.44; 95%CI [95% confidence interval]: 1.01-2.03; p = 0.040) and 71% higher for the Brazilian pattern (PR = 1.71; 95%CI: 1.18-2.47; p= 0.004) among women with a higher level of collective efficacy, when compared to those with a low level of collective efficacy. Metalloproteinases (MPs) are zinc-dependent enzymes with proteolytic activity and a variety of functions in the pathophysiology of human diseases. The main objectives of this review are to analyze a specific family of MPs, the matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), in the most common chronic and complex diseases that affect patients’ social lives and to better understand the nature of the associations between MMPs and the psychosocial environment. In accordance with the PRISMA extension for a scoping review, an examination was carried out. A collection of 24 studies was analyzed, focusing on the molecular mechanisms of MMP and their connection to the manifestation of social aspects in human disease. The complexity of the relationship between MMP and social problems is presented via an interdisciplinary approach based on complexity paradigm as a new approach for conceptualizing knowledge in health research. Finally, two implications emerge from the study: first, the psychosocial states of individuals have a profound impact on their overall health and disease conditions, which implies the importance of adopting a holistic perspective on human well-being, encompassing both physical and psychosocial aspects. Second, the use of MPs as biomarkers may provide physicians with valuable tools for a better understanding of disease when used in conjunction with “sociomarkers” to develop mathematical predictive models.

Aims: The aim of the study was to adapt the German version of the insulin pump therapy (IPA) questionnaire to Italian (IT-IPA) and to evaluate its psychometric properties in adults with type 1 diabetes. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study, data were collected through an online survey. In addition to IT-IPA, questionnaires evaluating depression, anxiety, diabetes distress, self-efficacy, and treatment satisfaction were administered. The six factors identified in the IPA German version were assessed using confirmatory factor analysis; psychometric testing included construct validity and internal consistency. Results: The online survey was compiled by 182 individuals with type 1 diabetes: 45.6% continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII) users and 54.4% multiple daily insulin injection users. The six-factor model had a very good fit in our sample. The internal consistency was acceptable (Cronbach's α = 0.75; 95% IC [0.65–0.81]). Diabetes treatment satisfaction was positively correlated with a positive attitude towards CSII therapy (Spearman's rho = 0.31; p < 0.01), less Technology Dependency, higher Ease of Use, and less Impaired Body Image. Furthermore, less Technology Dependency was associated with lower diabetes distress and depressive symptoms. Conclusions: The IT-IPA is a valid and reliable questionnaire evaluating attitudes towards insulin pump therapy. The building of life stress, well expressed by the concept of allostatic load, plays an important part in all phases of endocrine illness. Allostatic load refers to the cumulative burden of both stressful life events and chronic stress. When environmental challenges exceed the individual ability to cope, allostatic overload ensues. Assessment of allostatic load/overload by clinical measurements including indices and rating scales, in addition to biomarkers, offers a characterization of the person's psychosocial environment that is missing from current formulations. Consideration of allostatic load in endocrinology may shed light on a number of clinical issues: interpretation of abnormal hormone values that lack explanations; coping with the various phases of illness; maladaptive illness behavior; response to treatment; presence of residual symptoms; health-damaging lifestyle habits. Addressing allostatic load calls for innovative models of endocrine outpatients with multidisciplinary organization of care, extended time for the interview, focus on rehabilitation. We provide an overview on the mechanisms of allostatic load, how it can be assessed, its potential role in endocrine disturbances, and how its consideration may lead to a needed innovation in patient care. Abstract Background The study of sex and gender patterns in psychosocial resources is a growing field of interest in pain research with importance for pain rehabilitation and prevention. The aims of this study were first, to estimate cross-sectional differences in psychosocial resources (general self-efficacy and social support) across men and women in a population with frequent musculoskeletal pain (pain in the back or neck/shoulder nearly every day or now and again during the week for the last 12 months) and to compare these differences with a population with no frequent pain. Second, to examine if psychosocial resources at baseline were associated with pain at follow-up among men and women in the frequent pain population. Methods This study was based on survey data from the Swedish Health Assets Project, including The General Self-Efficacy Scale and social support questions. Participants (n = 4010, 55% women) were divided into no frequent pain (n = 2855) and frequent pain (n = 1155). General self-efficacy and social support were analyzed (cross-sectional and longitudinal data) with linear and logistic regressions. Results Men, with and without frequent pain, had higher general self-efficacy than the corresponding groups in women. Women, with and without frequent pain, had stronger emotional social support than the corresponding groups in men. Men with no frequent pain had weaker instrumental social support than women with no frequent pain (OR = 0.64 (95% CI 0.47–0.87)), men with frequent pain did not (OR = 1.32 (95% CI 0.86–2.01)). In the frequent pain population, the interaction between sex and strong (compared to weak) emotional social support was statistically significant (p = 0.040) for no frequent pain at follow-up, with women having OR = 1.81 and men OR = 0.62. Among women, strong emotional social support was associated with no frequent pain at follow-up. Among men, strong emotional social support was associated with frequent pain at follow-up. Conclusion Some of the associations between general self-efficacy, social support and musculosceletal pain showed unexpected sex patterns. Gendered expectations might have relevance for some of the results.

Global cervical cancer incidence and mortality have remained a major public health problem. Depending on the quality and coverage of preventive programs, and the capacity of health care systems, different screening tests are used, with the Pap smear being the most widely implemented. Several difficulties have been reported in accessing timely detection, causing late cervical cancer diagnosis. Trying to close these gaps, new screening devices have been developed in recent years; however, there is a lack of knowledge about whether or not women perspective has been included in the design process and technological development of these devices. This scoping review aimed to describe and synthesize scientific literature on women's critical experiences with Pap smears to prospectively contribute to the design, development, and scale-up of cervical cancer screening devices. The electronic databases Web of Science, Scopus, PubMed, PsycINFO and SciELO were searched for relevant studies published between 2012 and 2021; finally, 18 qualitative studies were included. Experiences were classified into four categories: fear and embarrassment, speculum pain and discomfort, outcome distress and health service barriers. Critical experiences before, during, and after the test were analyzed in turn. In particular, during the test, women reported pain associated with the use of the speculum. The acceptability of new screening devices will largely depend on comfort during the test and timely delivery of results. This review provides a useful qualitative synthesis, not only to advance the design of novel devices but also for future implementation research in cervical screening services.

Background: Food choices can be influenced by psychosocial factors. Objective: To investigate the relationships between social support and social capital with food consumption. Method: This is a population-based cross-sectional study with a random sample of 1098 adults (=18 years old) from a medium-sized city in southern Brazil. Social support was measured by Medical Outocomes Study (MOS) scale and social capital was assessed by social cohesion, neighbor support, informal social control, political effectiveness, and social action. For the assessment of food consumption was applied a scale based on the food guide for the Brazilian population. Results: The mean age of the sample was 44 years (SD [Standard Deviation] = 15.8) and adequate food consumption was identified in 38.6% (95% CI: 35.7 to 41.5). After adjustment, there was a 40% higher probability of adopting adequate (healthy) food consumption among individuals with higher level of social support (OR = 1.47; 95% CI: 1.07 to 2.03), cohesion. social (OR = 1.40; 95% CI: 1.02 to 1.92) and support from neighbors (OR = 1.45; 95% CI: 1.04 to 2.02). The purpose of this discussion is to provide an overview of psychosocial adaptation to chronic illness and disability (CID) with a special focus on cystic fibrosis as it pertains to children and adolescents. Understanding psychosocial adaptation to chronic illness and disability in general provides the medical team and mental health providers' basic information regarding the factors impacting adaptation; also, the focus on cystic fibrosis provides information regarding the specific factors related to cystic fibrosis in conceptualizing how these factors impact their patients and ultimately designing as well as implementing effective treatment. The importance of understanding how psychosocial factors impact adapting to CID for children and adolescents cannot be stressed enough as physicians are often the first provider these patients visit. Additionally, many patients may not understand the connection between psychosocial factors and problems associated with cystic fibrosis and not consider seeking out mental health services without the encouragement from the medical team. The necessity of multidisciplinary teams is stressed due to the fact that CID as well as cystic fibrosis impacts the whole person (physiologically, psychologically, psychosocially, and environmentally) and teams need to include professionals who can adequately address all of these factors. Searches for studies of the impact of COPD on sexual health were conducted independently by two authors in the databases of PubMed, PsycINFO, Embases, CINAHL, Web of Science, Scopus and The Cochrane Library. English-language quantitative and qualitative studies assessing one or more aspects of sexual health in patients diagnosed with COPD were narratively reviewed and, when possible, subjected to meta-analytic evaluation. A total of 31 studies, including 4 qualitative, were included. Twelve studies assessing erectile dysfunction with the International Index of Erectile Function were subjected to meta-analysis. The pooled prevalence of erectile dysfunction was 74% (95% CI: 68– 80%) in a total of 1187 patients with COPD, compared with 56% (37– 73%) in 224 age-matched, non-COPD controls. The sexual health outcomes assessed in the remaining studies varied considerably, compromising the comparability of the results. None of the qualitative studies had sexual health as their primary focus. Compared with non-COPD individuals, erectile dysfunction appears to be more prevalent among patients with COPD, but more studies including non-COPD controls are needed to confirm this finding. Patients’ baseline psychosocial factors may be associated with these trajectories.Materials and Methods: We selected 267 patients who received sleeve gastrectomy for the first time. The BF% at baseline and 1, 3, 6, 12 months after surgery and baseline psychosocial variables were retrospectively collected. The trajectory model was established according to BF% based on the growth mixture model. The baseline psychosocial variables were compared among different trajectory classes.Results: Four types of trajectory classes were obtained. The differences in preoperative dietary self-efficacy, exercise self-efficacy, depression, social support, working status, alcohol consumption, and gender among the classes were statistically significant. The pairwise comparison of the above variables revealed that the differences of gender, dietary self-efficacy and exercise self-efficacy among classes were highly effective.Conclusion: Female gender, low dietary self-efficacy and low exercise self-efficacy were predictors for poor BF% trajectory in sleeve gastrectomy patients. Introduction: suicidal ideation refers to thoughts ranging from a vague idea of suicide to an organized suicide plan. Objective: it was sought to determine the association between demographic and psychosocial variables with suicidal ideation in people with suicide attempt in the Sabaneta population during 2017 to 2020. Methodology: a cross-sectional, retrospective and analytical study was carried out, where prevalence ratios were calculated by means of a Generalized linear model with binomial family and log link for explanatory purposes. Results: in 231 registries of people with a suicide attempt, a prevalence of suicidal ideation of 38.6% was observed, the findings of the adjusted model showed that age <30 years (RPa: 0.77 95% CI: 0.39-1, 53), being a woman (RPa: 1.42 95% CI: 0.74-2.72), urban residence (RPa: 2.01 95% CI: 0.76-5.29), subsidized regime (RPa: 1, 97 95% CI: 0.87–4.46), hospitalization (RPa: 1.50 95% CI: 0.80–2.82), chronic disease (RPa: 2.69 95% CI: 0.49–14.62 ), previous attempts (RPa: 3.13 95% CI: 1.64-5.98), family history of suicide (RPa: 1.58 95% CI: 0.53-4.67), suicide plan (RPa: 4.47 95% CI: 1.67-11.96), alcohol abuse (RPa: 1.36 95% CI: 0.37-5.03), psychiatric disorder (RPa: 0.54 95% CI: 0.16 –1.78), depressive disorder (RPa: 2.92 95% CI: 0.94–9.03), personality disorder (RPa: 1.96 95% CI: 0.52–7.43) and bipolar disorder ( RPa: 1.08 95% CI: 0.30-3.95) were associated with suicidal ideation. Objective: Practice guidelines emphasize the importance of investigating psychosocial distress in mesothelioma patients and family caregivers. We aimed to synthesize research on the psychosocial support needs of mesothelioma patients and their family caregivers.Methods: We conducted a systematic review with a narrative synthesis and quality assessment. The review process adhered to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines.Results: MEDLINE, EMBASE, Scopus, PsychArticles, and PsycINFO were searched until December 2020 and 37 studies in English met inclusion criteria. Most (n = 24) included mesothelioma patients as a very small proportion of their cancer samples. A narrative synthesis was conducted on the 13 studies including only mesothelioma patients (n = 297) and/or caregivers (n = 82). Patients and caregivers want improvements in the diagnosis delivery and access to palliative care. Patients want emotional support, patient-centered treatment, improved information about illness progression and death, and to meet others with mesothelioma. Caregivers want one-on-one practical and emotional support. Study quality varied.Conclusions: Few studies focus on the psychosocial support needs relevant to mesothelioma. Background: The purpose of this study was to assess adults' perspectives after using the insulin-only Bionic Pancreas (BP) during a 13-week pivotal trial. Automated insulin delivery (AID) systems show promise in improving glycemic outcomes and reducing disease burden for those with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1D). Understanding the lived experience of those using the BP can help to inform education and uptake of AID devices., Methods: Adults ages 19 to 75 (n = 40) participated in age-specific focus groups (19-25, 26-40, 41-64, and 65+) exploring their experiences, thoughts, and feelings about using the BP. Three authors analyzed the focus group data using a hybrid thematic approach., Results: Qualitative analysis of focus groups revealed 14 sub-themes falling into four major themes (diabetes burden, managing glucose levels, daily routine, and user experience). Although participants' overall experience was positive, some reported struggles related to managing out-of-range glucose levels and challenges with the system responding to unique meal schedules and exercise regimens., Conclusion: This study captures patient perspectives regarding their experiences with a new AID system. Patient voice can inform device development and educational approaches for people with T1D. Background/aim: This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of a supervised group exercise therapy based on the biopsychosocial model introduced simultaneously with antitumor necrosis factor (TNF) therapy in anti-TNF-naive patients with active ankylosing spondylitis (AS). Materials and methods: Forty-eight patients were divided into two groups: the control group (CG; n = 36) received only anti-TNF therapy, and the study group (SG; n = 12) received the supervised exercise therapy based on the biopsychosocial model in addition to anti-TNF therapy. The measurements of disease activity and functionality were evaluated by The Bath AS Disease Activity Index (BASDAI) and The Bath AS Functional Index (BASFI) respectively. Other outcome measures evaluated biopsychosocial status, emotional state, spinal mobility, pain, fatigue, sleep, and quality of life. All measurements were applied to both groups at baseline and repeated 12 weeks later. Results: BASDAI and BASFI analyses revealed significant differences between groups in favor of the SG (p < 0.05). At the end of the 12 weeks, the results showed that there were additional improvements in all outcome measurement parameters in the SG compared to the CG. Conclusion: The supervised group exercise therapy based on the biopsychosocial model introduced simultaneously with anti-TNF therapy is more effective than only anti-TNF therapy in anti-TNF-naive patients with active AS. PURPOSE: Children and adolescents (<18 years old) who sustain a spinal cord injury (SCI) should ideally be managed in specialized rehabilitation services. This project aims to describe the organization of pediatric SCI in ten rehabilitation units in seven countries and to qualitatively explore psychosocial aspects of adolescents living with SCI. METHODS: A multicenter cross-sectional project is planned, using quantitative (web survey) and qualitative (interview) methods in ten rehabilitation units from Norway, Sweden, United States, Israel, PR China, Russia and Palestine. Individual interviews will be conducted with ≥20 adolescents aged 13–17 years at least 6 months' post rehabilitation. RESULTS: Units involved will be described and compared, according to funding, attachment to an acute SCI unit, catchment area, number of beds, admittance and discharge procedures, availability of services, staff/patient ratio, content and intensity of rehabilitation programs, length of stay, measurement methods, follow-up services, health promotion services, and pediatric SCI prevention acts. The semi-structured interview guide will include experiences from acute care and primary rehabilitation, daily life, school, contact with friends, leisure time activities, peers, physical and psychological health, and the adolescents' plans for the future. CONCLUSION: Based on the present protocol, this project is likely to provide new insight and knowledge on pediatric SCI rehabilitation and increase the understanding of pediatric SCI in adolescents and their families internationally. Multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) remains a significant global health threat, necessitating ongoing research and case studies to understand its complexities. Introduction and aims: As directed by the WHO, antenatal care providers have good opportunities to identify and refer mothers who are struggling with psychosocial problems. In Ethiopia, the pooled prevalence of perinatal depression is 25.8%, which is almost two-fold of the pooled global prevalence. Though this is an indication of the need for prompt interventions, there is no assessment targeted to this population. Therefore, the aim of this project was to promote an antenatal psychosocial assessment practice among midwives. Methods: Using the Joanna Briggs Institute Practical Application of Evidence System, 66 first visit antenatal care assessment opportunities were observed in both baseline and follow-up audit using three audit criteria. Fourteen midwives were interviewed for the first criterion. On the basis of the results, the gaps and barriers were analyzed using Getting Research into Practice strategies. Result: The baseline audit result revealed a 0% compliance rate for all evidence-based antenatal psychosocial assessment audit criteria. This scenario disclosed that there had not been psychosocial problem assessment practice at antenatal clinic. However, the postimplementation result showed that an average 91.5% practice of evidence-based antenatal psychosocial assessment was applied as per standards. Conclusion: Carrying out discussions on evidence summary with providers, on-the-job training, using local leaders' opinions, and involving relevant stakeholders appeared to be the key methods in improving compliance to best available evidence in antenatal psychosocial assessment. In precocious puberty, the child has to adapt by experiencing physical, psychological, social and cognitive changes long before her peers. On the one hand, precocious puberty accelerated skeletal maturation, causing premature closure of the epiphysis and consequently short adult stature. On the other hand, it causes an increase in sex steroids, leading to early development of secondary sex characters, and consequently behavioral and psychosocial problems. Girls with puberty precocious are more vulnerable and defenceless to environmental influences. There are studies showing that precocious puberty causes psychosocial problems but also in her mother. In puberty precocious there are studies indicating that the child has risk of early sexual activity, sexual abuse, substance use, low self-esteem, introversion, social isolation, aggression, stress, anxiety, depression, school problems, and her mother has anxiety, stress, pressure, guilt. This situation increases the disease burden. Introduction: Kidney paired donation programs have been implemented globally. The involvement of at least 2 donors in these programs might exacerbate recipients' debt of gratitude and guilt, worries about the donor's health, and worries about graft failure documented by previous studies. However, there is an absence of research on the psychosocial implications of kidney paired donation. This study aimed to provide an in-depth examination of recipients' experience of kidney paired donation, with a focus on psychosocial adjustment. Methods/Approach: Individual interviews were conducted with 8 recipients who received a transplant through Canada's Kidney Paired Donation program. Data was analyzed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis. Findings: Four themes emerged: (a) an emotionally charged relationship with the known donor, (b) optimal distance regulation in the relationship with the anonymous donor, (c) kidney paired donation as a series of ups and downs, and (d) multilayered gratitude. Discussion: Findings are considered in relation to extant literature.
