Background & Objective: Oral stage dysphagia mostly caused by frontal lobe lesions. We investigated the relationship between oral hesitation and cognitive impairment after frontal lobe stroke. Methods: We consecutively collected 946 patients with stroke from January 2016 to December 2020. Among them, 38 patients had only frontal lobe lesions. Video fluoroscopic swallowing study (VFSS) was performed in 5 stages from water to solid food. Patients who progressed to solid food are very rare, so we focused on liquid and soft food. Diagnosis of stroke was limited to cases in which cerebral infarction or haemorrhage had been verified by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Cognitive impairment was evaluated by MMSE in patients with frontal lobe lesions. Result: Of the total 946 patients, 35 patients with frontal lobe lesions were enrolled in the study. Of them, 22 were judged to have cognitive impairment. The oral hesitation of the liquid component was analysed, and a conclusion was drawn that the group with cognitive impairment showed significant oral hesitation than the group without cognitive impairment. On the other hand, in the case of soft food, it was found that there was no correlation between cognition and oral hesitation. Conclusion: It was confirmed that oral hesitation during swallowing in patients with frontal lobe stroke had a meaningful relationship with cognition, and oral hesitation during swallowing was significantly higher in liquid swallowing rather than soft food. Background: Qualitative research has explored how some testicular cancer survivors (TCS) experience the psychological impacts of diagnosis and treatment. More research into the impacts of testicular cancer (TC) on adolescent and young adults (AYA) is needed due to the critical period of identity development. The present study aimed to explore how AYA with TC appraise and make sense of their experience and to develop a greater understanding of psychosexual identity development in AYA TCS. Method: Eight AYA TCS were interviewed. The results were analysed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis. The questions explored the experiences relating to diagnosis and treatment, how it affected their psychosexual identity development (e.g., sexual relationships and self-image) and the meanings attached to the experiences. Analysis: Four Group Experiential Themes were developed from the data; 'Dealing with the shock', 'Fear and weight of responsibility', 'those closest to me' and 'sense of change'. Discussion: The AYA TCS experiences may result in adoption of traditional masculine traits (e.g., stoicism) or abandonment of traditionally masculine traits (E.g. violence and aggression). AYA TCS also described feelings of insecurity when compared to other men. Psychology input could help manage stoicism and feelings of inferiority when compared to men with two testicles. The article discusses a technique called "V-I penoscrotal reconfiguration" for the surgical treatment of congenital webbed penis (CWP). Psychosexual functioning is an important aspect of human development and relationships. A previous study investigated psychosexual functioning of autistic adolescents using the Teen Transition Inventory (TTI), but there is a lack of comprehensive measurement of psychosexual functioning among autistic and non-autistic (NA) adults. To address this gap, the current study adapted the self-report TTI to the Psychosexual Functioning Survey (PSFS) and presented it to 131 autistic (n = 59) and NA adults (n = 72) in the U.S. Comparisons of psychometric properties between the original TTI and the PSFS are shared; the developmental relevancy among some items was changed, and the alphas indicated a difference in the content of certain scales. Differences emerged between autistic and NA adults in both the intra- and interpersonal domains of psychosexual functioning, but not in sexual and intimate behaviors. The findings suggest the persistence of differences from adolescence to adulthood between autistic and NA people and highlight the importance of understanding the unique experiences of adults in psychosexual functioning relative to diagnostic status. Research on pornography use and sexual coercion has provided some evidence that there is an association between these two behaviors. One area in this body of research where there is a need for improvement is the operationalization of pornography use. In particular, a need for researchers to capture all relevant aspects of pornography use that are associated with sexual coercion. These aspects include frequency of use, type of pornography used, investment in use, sexual scripts adopted from pornography, compulsive use, and first exposure. The current study aims to examine which of these aspects of pornography use are significantly associated with sexual coercion. A sample of 365 college males was surveyed on their pornography use, engagement in sexually coercive behaviors, and other relevant variables. Results show that sexual scripts and investment in pornography use are significantly related to self-reported sexual coercion. These findings indicate that the frequency with which someone views pornography may not be driving the relationship between pornography use and sexual coercion and that an individual's monetary investment in their pornography use habit, as well as their adoption of sexual scripts from pornography, may be what is driving this relationship. In addition, these findings have implications for the aspects of pornography use that researchers should focus on when examining the relationship between pornography use and sexual coercion. This paper diffracts Deleuze and quantum physics through Winnicott's work to argue for an enrichment to playing. The roots of the play-cognitive hierarchy in Freudian psychoanalysis makes visible that progression and the stages that a child must pass en route to rationality continue to feed educational assumptions that a child must leave playing behind in order to learn. Addressing critiques of Freud's psychosexual theory of child development, I introduce Winnicott's work on playing as creative activity and transitional phenomena which cast playing in a positive light. I then turn to Deleuze's critique of Freud's foundational concepts of child development influenced by Newtonian physics to argue that a Deleuzian concept of energy aligns with quantum physics, which unsettles the binary play-cognition hierarchy. I introduce a vignette to illustrate a rich array of concepts involved in playing that are read through Winnicott. In the final step, I argue that Winnicott's transitional object provides a juncture with Deleuze's concept of the partial/virtual object paving the way to graft an alternative and more processual ontology onto Winnicott's work on playing that acts beside cognitive connections in ways that bring learning alive and liberate teachers to enter less constrained relationships with children. Children in their childhood and teenage years can acquire either healthy or unhealthy lifestyles. Without proper guidance, unhealthy lifestyles (e.g. risk-taking, substance abuse, poor family planning) may affect their psychosexual development negatively (i.e. the ability to make healthier sexual choices). Male and female teachers can be role models for learners to acquire healthy sexual lifestyles. Historically, the Foundation Phase (FP) has been a highly feminine teaching space. Lately, however, the space has seen an increasing presence and participation of male teachers. This paper shares FP male teachers' experiences of teaching comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) content within the Life Skills curriculum in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa. Five FP male teachers were engaged in a focus-group conversation; data were thematically analysed, underpinned by a feminist post-structural lens. Although the teachers reported a restriction of FP male teachers in teaching of CSE-related content, they also indicated that learners showed increased self-exposure to CSE-related content. To counter the censorship of FP male teachers in teaching CSE-related content, the study recommends explicit incorporation of feminist pedagogies to enable FP male teachers to be part of the delivery of SE content as equal stakeholders. Background: Most forcibly displaced persons are hosted in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC). There is a growing urbanization of forcibly displaced persons, whereby most refugees and nearly half of internally displaced persons live in urban areas. This scoping review assesses the sexual and reproductive health (SRH) needs, outcomes, and priorities among forcibly displaced persons living in urban LMIC. Methods: Following The Joanna Briggs Institute scoping review methodology we searched eight databases for literature published between 1998 and 2023 on SRH needs among urban refugees in LMIC. SHR was operationalized as any dimension of sexual health (comprehensive sexuality education [CSE]; sexual and gender based violence [GBV]; HIV and STI prevention and control; sexual function and psychosexual counseling) and/or reproductive health (antental, intrapartum, and postnatal care; contraception; fertility care; safe abortion care). Searches included peer-reviewed and grey literature studies across quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods designs. Findings: The review included 92 studies spanning 100 countries: 55 peer-reviewed publications and 37 grey literature reports. Most peer-reviewed articles (n = 38) discussed sexual health domains including: GBV (n = 23); HIV/STI (n = 19); and CSE (n = 12). Over one-third (n = 20) discussed reproductive health, including: antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care (n = 13); contraception (n = 13); fertility (n = 1); and safe abortion (n = 1). Eight included both reproductive and sexual health. Most grey literature (n = 29) examined GBV vulnerabilities. Themes across studies revealed social-ecological barriers to realizing optimal SRH and accessing SRH services, including factors spanning structural (e.g., livelihood loss), health institution (e.g., lack of health insurance), community (e.g., reduced social support), interpersonal (e.g., gender inequitable relationships), and intrapersonal (e.g., low literacy) levels. Conclusions: This review identified displacement processes, resource insecurities, and multiple forms of stigma as factors contributing to poor SRH outcomes, as well as producing SRH access barriers for forcibly displaced individuals in urban LMIC. Findings have implications for mobilizing innovative approaches such as self-care strategies for SRH (e.g., HIV self-testing) to address these gaps. Regions such as Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean are underrepresented in research in this review. Our findings can guide SRH providers, policymakers, and researchers to develop programming to address the diverse SRH needs of urban forcibly displaced persons in LMIC. Self-care strategies for SRH (e.g., HIV self-testing, long-acting self-injectable contraception, abortion self-management) hold significant promise to address SRH barriers experienced by urban refugees and warrant further exploration with this population. Feeding disorders can be quite complex, with medical concerns, anatomical abnormalities, skill deficits, and behavioral or environmental components contributing to the development and maintenance of significant feeding concerns. Because of this, an interdisciplinary approach to assessment and treatment is oftentimes warranted. Within the current study, a 4-year-old boy with autism spectrum disorder and oral phase dysphagia, who also met criteria for pediatric feeding disorder, presented with severe food selectivity and baby bottle dependence. Behavioral concerns as well as oral motor deficits were identified as contributing to his lack of food acceptance. While there are various behavioral treatments to increase food acceptance and decrease problem behaviors during mealtimes in children with feeding disorders (e.g., nonremoval of the spoon, alternative methods of food deposit), these treatments may not be effective for children with co-morbid oral motor deficits, or the use of such behavioral treatments may perpetuate oral motor deficits. Therefore, herein we evaluate the effectiveness of a lip closure prompt, in combination with a behavioral treatment package, at increasing food acceptance in a child with a feeding disorder who did not demonstrate lip closure on a spoon. Following this combined treatment approach, the child began accepting bites from a spoon and the lip closure prompt was faded out. Purpose: Psychosexual distress is known to be a common complication of treatment for gynaecological cancer (GC), affecting the sexual quality of life (SQoL) for an increasing number of young gynaecological cancer survivors (YGCS). The SQoL in YGCS study aimed to identify strategies that are acceptable and helpful to YGCS in protecting and improving SQoL, using a salutogenic approach. Methods: A qualitative study was undertaken with young women aged 18–45 and pre- or perimenopausal at diagnosis. Semi-structured interviews were conducted on Zoom and a thematic analysis of transcripts was completed in NVivo. Results: Fifteen interviews with YGCS revealed three themes for strategy development: psychosexual education, psychosocial support, and healthcare policy and strategy to establish SQoL as standard care in gynaecologic oncology. Conclusion: The strategies put forward by YGCS showed the need for a holistic, patient-centric, and multidisciplinary approach to SQoL. A better understanding of the strategies acceptable to YGCS, including the importance of using a trauma-informed approach to communication and care, can help healthcare providers play a vital role in protecting and improving SQoL. Previous research has indicated that intersex people face specific challenges in their sexual development, including uncertainties or confusion about their gender, a negative genital self-image, and hesitance to engage in romantic and sexual relationships. However, in-depth knowledge regarding a central period in this development, adolescence, is missing. In our qualitative study, we explore which factors influence the relational and sexual development of intersex youth and what elements contribute to positive development. We interviewed eighteen intersex persons aged 18–38. We identified three main themes: (1) intersex experiences, (2) the described sexual and relational life course, and (3) factors influencing a positive development. Our findings show that intersex youth face many obstacles in their relational and sexual development, many of which are related to healthcare. However, their life stories also illuminate how healthcare professionals, as well as parents, friends, partners, teachers, and others, can make a substantial difference in intersex lives by breaking normative, binary thinking on sex and gender. Following severe brain injuries, a subset of patients may remain in an altered state of consciousness; most of these patients require artificial feeding. Currently, a functional oral phase and the presence of exclusive oral feeding may constitute signs of consciousness. Additionally, the presence of pharyngo-laryngeal secretions, saliva aspiration, cough reflex and tracheostomy are related to the level of consciousness. However, the link between swallowing and consciousness is yet to be fully understood. The primary aim of this review is to establish a comprehensive overview of the relationship between an individual's conscious behaviour and swallowing (reflexive and voluntary). Previous studies of brain activation during volitional and non-volitional swallowing tasks in healthy subjects are also reviewed. We demonstrate that the areas activated by voluntary swallowing tasks (primary sensorimotor, cingulate, insula, premotor, supplementary motor, cerebellum, and operculum) are not specific to deglutitive function but are shared with other motor tasks and brain networks involved in consciousness. This review also outlines suitable assessment and treatment methods for dysphagic patients with disorders of consciousness. ABSTRACT: Kallmann syndrome is defined as the association of hypogonadotropic hypogonadism and anosmia or hyposmia caused by abnormal migration of olfactory axons and neurons producing gonadotropin-releasing hormone. It is a nonlife-threatening disease with relatively good treatment. However, the effects of the condition persist throughout the affected individuals' lifetimes, leading to significant economic and social consequences. A man presented with eunuchoid body proportions complains about the size of his penis, absence of hair throughout the body, micropenis, and small testicles. Associated findings included hyposmia and a high-pitched voice. The patient experiences psychosexual impacts as a result of this illness. Sexual and dating violence (SDV) by male youth (≤ 25 years)—including sexual harassment, emotional partner violence, and rape—is a worldwide problem. The goal of this preregistered (PROSPERO, ID: CRD42022281220) systematic review was to map existing SDV prevention programs aimed at male youth, including their characteristics (e.g., content, intensity), intended psychosexual outcomes, and empirically demonstrated effectiveness, guided by the principles of the theory of planned behavior (TPB). We conducted searches in six online databases for published, peer-reviewed quantitative effectiveness studies on multi-session, group focused, and interaction based SDV prevention programs for male youth ending March 2022. After screening of 21,156 hits using PRISMA guidelines, 15 studies on 13 different programs, from four continents were included. Narrative analysis showed, first, broad ranges in program intensity (2–48 h total), and few program curricula included explicit discussion of relevant aspects of the TPB. Second, programs' main intended psychosexual outcomes were to change SDV experiences, or related attitudes, or norms. Third, significant effects were found mostly on longer term behaviors and short-term attitudes. Other theoretical proxies of SDV experiences, such as social norms and perceived behavioral control, were sparsely investigated; thus, program effectiveness on these outcomes remains largely unknown. Assessed with the Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool, moderate to serious risk of bias arose in all studies. We present concrete suggestions for program content, such as explicit attention to victimization and masculinity and discuss best practices for evaluation research, including assessments of program integrity, and examining relevant theoretical proxies of SDV. La visée de cette recherche est de mieux comprendre le vécu psychique de l'Insuffisance Ovarienne Précoce (IOP) chez une jeune femme qui souhaite s'engager avec son compagnon dans une grossesse. Après avoir rappelé l'impact de cet événement somatique sur la psychosexualité féminine mais aussi le sentiment d'incomplétude lorsque l'infertilité survient, nous avons présenté un dispositif méthodologique basé sur des entretiens cliniques de recherche, des épreuves projectives (Rorschach, TAT) et un génogramme imaginaire pour analyser comment la participante élabore ses liens filiatifs et affiliatifs depuis l'annonce du diagnostic d'IOP. L'analyse des données cliniques et projectives dans un référentiel métapsychologique a mis en évidence des défenses narcissiques (idéalisation du couple), des marques de retrait relationnel, une élaboration complexe des identifications et notamment de la polarité féminine. Les imagos parentales se sont avérées insuffisantes à soutenir le narcissisme de la participante et donc à déployer les identifications. Quant au génogramme imaginaire, il illustre un fantasme incestuel et une dissociation du conjugal et du parental. Si la maternité pourrait être envisagée comme une sortie de la relation fusionnelle à la mère et soutenir une identité féminine, l'IOP, paradoxalement, maintiendrait la participante comme une éternelle enfant et ferait l'économie de la rivalité adressée à la mère (seule génitrice). The aim of this research is to better understand the psychological experience of premature ovarian failure (POF) in a young woman who desires to become pregnant with her partner. After taking into consideration the impact of this somatic event on female psychosexuality and the feeling of inadequacy in cases of infertility, we present a methodological approach based on clinical research interviews, projective tests (Rorschach, TAT), and an imaginary genogram to analyze how the participant approaches her filial and affiliative links following the announcement of the diagnosis of POF. The research was spread out over almost a month and used the following procedure: first of all, we conducted an initial interview concerning the impact of the announcement of the POF. During a second interview, the instructions were to go back over the salient elements of her life story (relationship with her parents, love life, desire for a child, etc.). Following this interview, the Rorschach and the TAT were administered. A session was devoted to doing the genograms, and finally a last meeting recorded her return on the research. Only the projective tests were carried out in the same session. The analysis of the clinical and projective data in a metapsychological perspective revealed narcissistic defense mechanisms (the idealization of the couple), indications of relational withdrawal, and a complex elaboration of identifications, particularly regarding feminine polarity. The parental imagos proved to be insufficient to support the participant's narcissism and to enforce the identifications. Moreover, the imaginary genogram illustrates an incestual fantasy and a dissociation of the conjugal being from the parental being. If motherhood could be envisaged as a way out of the fusional relationship with the mother and support a feminine identity, it seems that the ovarian failure, paradoxically, would relegate the participant to the status of an eternal child and would avoid the feelings of rivalry toward the mother (who remains the sole genitor). The fact that the partner was not involved in the data collection is one of the limitations of this research and it would seem interesting to include input from the partners in our future. Introduction: Personal characteristics have been shown to influence the psychosexual development of people with intellectual disabilities. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the SALUDIVERSEX program about affective-sexual education depending on gender, age, relationship status, and degree of autonomy. Methods: Two hundred fifty-four participants, clustered within 28 daytime support services, completed a battery of instruments before and after the intervention. The data was collected between January 2021 and April 2022. Results: Multilevel analyses, controlling for participant's dependence within the same center, confirm that the program is equally effective regardless of gender. Likewise, younger participants, who have greater autonomy and who have a partner, seem to benefit more from the intervention. Conclusions: This suggests that the SALUDIVERSEX program is a useful tool for educating adults with intellectual disabilities on sexuality, when they possess a high degree of autonomy. Policy Implications: The present study contributes to the successful replication of the intervention being tested, providing information on the aspects that may be more difficult to learn depending on the personal characteristics of the individuals. Objectives: Childhood cancer may negatively impact childhood cancer survivors' (CCS) sexuality. However, this is an understudied research area. We aimed to describe the psychosexual development, sexual functioning and sexual satisfaction of CCS, and identify determinants for these outcomes. Secondarily, we compared the outcomes of a subsample of emerging adult CCS to the Dutch general population. Methods: From the Dutch Childhood Cancer Survivor Study LATER cohort (diagnosed 1963–2001), 1912 CCS (18–71 years, 50.8% male) completed questions on sexuality, psychosocial development, body perception, mental and physical health. Multivariable linear regressions were used to identify determinants. Sexuality of CCS age 18–24 (N = 243) was compared to same‐aged references using binomial tests and t‐tests. Results: One third of all CCS reported hindered sexuality due to childhood cancer, with insecure body the most often reported reason (44.8%). Older age at study, lower education, surviving central nervous system cancer, poorer mental health and negative body perception were identified as determinants for later sexual debut, worse sexual functioning and/or sexual satisfaction. CCS age 18–24 showed significantly less experience with kissing (p = 0.014), petting under clothes (p = 0.002), oral (p = 0.016) and anal sex (p = 0.032) when compared to references. No significant differences with references were found for sexual functioning and sexual satisfaction, neither among female CCS nor male CCS age 18–24. Conclusions: Emerging adult CCS reported less experience with psychosexual development, but similar sexual functioning and sexual satisfaction compared to references. Little research has examined if there are differences in sexual well-being, negative sexual health outcomes, or levels of sexual identity development between racial/ethnic minority and non-racial/ethnic minority youth in the foster care system. Using a sample of youth formerly in the foster care system (n = 219), this study compared the sexual well-being, sexual identity development, and negative sexual health outcomes of racial/ethnic minority and non-racial/ethnic minority youth and found that racial/ethnic minority and non-racial/ethnic minority youth did not differ in overall levels of sexual well-being and had no significant differences in their levels of sexual identity development. There were differences in incidence of the youth or a partner having an STI/STD. These results indicate that there are few differences in sexual well-being, negative sexual health outcomes, or sexual identity development between racial/ethnic minority and non-racial/ethnic minority youth formerly in the foster care system. All four domains of sexual identity development predicted sexual well-being for non-racial/ethnic minority youth, but sexual orientation identity uncertainty did not predict sexual well-being for racial/ethnic minority youth, emphasizing the importance of sexual identity development. Freud traced the origin of the obsessional neurosis, which he considered a model condition for psychoanalytic inquiry, to a fixation in the anal phase of psychosexual development. Although many analysts have raised doubts about his account, and while the Sullivanian and Lacanian traditions have proposed alternatives, no approach has accounted for what Freud observed as the dizzying variety of obsessive presentations, which seem to defy a singular explanation. The broader research community has moved on, meanwhile, to genetic, neurological, and cognitive-behavioral explanations of what we now call obsessive-compulsive disorder. I argue that we can best account for the variety of obsessive presentations and meaningfully contribute to this interdisciplinary dialogue by framing obsessive-compulsive symptoms as the result of a disorder of volition, an exaggerated sense of willpower, not tied to any one developmental phase or bodily zone. Such a disorder evolves through the lifespan processes of introjection, identification, and repudiation in relation to an anxious/critical parent or an unpredictable environment. I trace these processes through three major developmental milestones. The implication is that, by looking in depth at how the obsessive person internalizes relationships, psychoanalysis can make a unique contribution to a conversation beyond its own borders. The paper at issue presents the social functioning of Polish female forms of occupational names (feminativa), as well as their role in the process of sex education, also in relation to perpetration of gender stereotypes. In the first part of the paper, a summary of the historical changes in the usage of feminativa is provided. Next, the usage of feminativa is described in relation to the theoretical basis of sex education, including the development of behavioral patterns. The analysis of linguistic, psychological and psychosexual factors enabled the Authors to show the impact of language on the perception of reality and of the subject’s place within the surrounding environment. Moreover, the Authors conducted the analysis of the role of feminativa in identity construction and in gender discrimination prevention. The paper at issue presents the cultural contexts of language use and its importance for the wellbeing of an individual. Additionally, the paper shows the basis of treating inclusive language as a form of support of the psychological and psychosexual development.

Powerplay, or the consensual power exchange between "Dominant" and "submissive" (D/s) role partners, is common practice within BDSM culture. To many BDSM practitioners, their D/s role is an integral part of their sexual identity, informing not only their sexual scripts but also their non-sexual social interactions. Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count (LIWC) text analysis software was used to process 261 participants' responses to prompts asking them to write erotic and relationship-themed narratives. Using a data-driven approach to model selection, we regressed participants' engagement in BDSM and D/s powerplay role identification on standardized language frequencies. Stories from more active BDSM practitioners' narratives used more perceptual words, suggesting potentially mindful, intimate, and detailed storytelling, whereas non-practitioners used more tentativeness and death in their writings. Moreover, language reflected D/s role attributes, with Dominants exhibiting ownership, responsibility, and other-focus, and submissives referencing power dynamics and self-focus in their responses. Canadian guidelines suggest using a positive, empowering, comprehensive, and safe approach to provide sexual health education (SHE). However, when they do so, decision-makers and educators often favour sexual risk prevention initiatives rather than positive aspects of sexuality. Furthermore, youth often criticize the gap between what they learn in class and what they experience in "real" life. This is particularly true for youth who have experienced sexual dating violence and whose particular needs are little considered in the development of SHE initiatives. The current qualitative study aimed to identify the key principles of SHE from the perspective of adolescent girls who experienced sexual dating violence. Individual semi-structured interviews were conducted with 100 adolescent female participants, aged between 14 and 19 years old, who reported at least one experience of sexual dating violence. Four conceptual categories were created based on participants' narratives, from which a theorization of SHE key principles was conducted: (1) Consent-Based: SHE should promote the affirmation and respect of sexual desires and boundaries; (2) Positive-Oriented: SHE should promote the legitimization of girls' sexuality and pleasure; (3) Gender Equality–Focused: SHE should promote gender equality in sexual and romantic relationships; and (4) Developmentally Appropriate: SHE should correspond to the psychosexual development of youth. Results support the relevance of educating about consent, promoting a positive and inclusive approach to sexuality with sexually victimized youth, and involving them in SHE initiatives to better meet their needs. In 1914, Freud wrote (pp. 47-48): Here we may even venture to touch on the question of what makes it necessary at all for our mental life to pass beyond the limits of narcissism and to attach the libido to objects. The answer which would follow from our line of thought would once more be that this necessity arises when the cathexis of the ego with libido exceeds a certain amount. A strong egoism is a protection against falling ill, but in the last resort we must begin to love in order not to fall ill, and we are bound to fall ill if, in consequence of frustration, we are unable to love. The current essay focuses on the development of internal and external otherness and its negation within the subject, the Freudian infant. For this purpose, I present my interpretation of the Cassius myth (Symington, 1993, pp. 43-45) as an example of a kind of mental disturbance that has led to negation of otherness and to rejection of the other, thus driving Cassius to his death. Cassius was driven to seek answers to mysteries presented by his body and mind: Who am I? Who are you, this other whom I seek in order to live? Where did I come from? And to where am I going? What is that force that is shaking me from inside, pushing me to seek an “other,” and a connection with this other, recognition by this other? What is that strange force inside me that strives for reconciliation, annihilation and negation? I describe the journey of Cassius who is tormented by conflict between his instincts, Eros and Thanatos. These instincts behaved in a dialectic manner of recognition and negation; that is, they led to the establishment of his ego through simultaneous recognition and negation of otherness. This journey passed through a crossroads between three pathways, which I described in detail: 1. The origin of the mind in one’s own body and/or sexuality, which pushed Cassius to dwell in his body. 2. Psychosexual development that has led to turning to an other, the narcissistic object. 3. The death instinct, pushing towards a relationship with a passionate otherness that aroused emotional pain and has led to a desire to get rid of the pain through the death instinct. Cassius’s journey could have ended with the development of responsibility, a moment one’s mind remembers, in which one recognizes otherness while at the same time rejecting it, and so forth; by needing the other desperately but being unable to tolerate any definition, giving, expectation or demand coming from him, from the external world; through an endless dialectical modality that allows taking responsibility, sometimes in retrospect, despite the inherent resistance to anything that is not one’s own. Cassius did not succeed in this endeavor, choosing instead “the third of the Fates, the silent goddess of death, to take him into her arms” (Freud, 1913, p. 101). In other words, Cassius chose the resolution of the comforting narcissistic, autoerotic, and illusive envelope in which he could imagine any object, fulfill any illusion, without facing the demands that set boundaries and require responsibility. In Alice Munro's short story "Boys and Girls," society's involvement in creating gendered lives is narrated by an eleven-year-old girl. To provide a linguistic analysis of her psychosexual development shaped by her family, in this study, all utterances are analyzed by employing a theoretical framework composed of Austin's (1962) Speech Act Theory and Lipsitz Bem's (1981) Gender Schema Theory. Analysis of the utterances postulates that the family's stereotypical and value-ridden statements affect the child's understanding of the making of a woman as the narrator's psychosexual development occurs under the influence of sex-typed individuals who mainly use implicit performatives primarily marked as verdictive utterances. Hence, the narrator's immediate social environment exerts their authority and power through specific linguistic constructions, as exemplified in the forceful use of the verdictives. Purpose: To provide an understanding of the changes in sexual function in women with genital warts. Methods: In this review study, databases searched included: PubMed, Science Direct, Scopus, Web of Science, Cochrane Library of Systematic Reviews, Google Scholar, ProQuest, Wiley, and Highwire Press. No study design limitations were applied to the initial search, and qualitative and quantitative studies published between 2005 and 2021 were included. Results: 19 articles were selected and analyzed narratively. The quality of the studies was almost good. The findings were classified into three groups: The prevalence of sexual dysfunction in women with genital warts (GWs) and Human Papillomavirus (HPV); Types of sexual dysfunction in women with genital warts, and associated factors; Psychosexual effects of genital warts. Conclusion: This study provides up-to-date evidence of the changes in sexual function in women with genital warts. Although the results of most studies showed that women with genital warts experienced sexual dysfunction in almost all dimensions, differences in study design and study population made it difficult to determine the specific type of disorder such as libido, or arousal disorders in these women. Based on the findings of this review, more research in this field is recommended for the future. The present study was designed to examine autistic and non-autistic young adults’ lived experience in psychosexual development and sex education and to solicit recommendations on how to improve sex education programs. Participants included 10 autistic young adults and 10 non-autistic young adults aged 18 to 24 years. The two groups were matched for sex and education level. One-on-one semi-structured interviews were conducted. Participants’ responses were analyzed using comparative interpretative phenomenological analysis. Four superordinate themes emerged: (1) “Who am I as a sexual being”; (2) Making sense of psychosexual development; (3) Sources of information; and (4) “Dear developers of sex education programs”. Most autistic participants shared feelings of intense anxiety about romantic and sexual relationships, in part due to anticipated difficulties in social communication. Interestingly, although interview questions mostly focused on sex and adolescence, issues surrounding romantic relationships and their links to current self-concept were prominent themes in many autistic participants’ responses, suggesting that autism-friendly sex education programs need to address issues related to romance and should target not only adolescents but also young adults. Also, autistic participants learned from peer interactions within the autistic community, highlighting the importance of facilitating peer exchanges and continuous learning beyond completing a program. Regarding delivery format, autistic participants valued concreteness and a mixed-sex small-group setting, and recommended using visual cues, real life examples, and role play. Autistic individuals have unmet psychosexual educational needs. Abstract Background The aim of this article is to review the essential concepts, current terminologies and classification, management guidelines and the rationale of gender assignment in different types of differences/disorders of sexual development. Main body The basics of the present understanding of normal sexual differentiation and psychosexual development were reviewed. The current guidelines, consensus statements along with recommendations in management of DSD were critically analyzed to formulate the review. The classification of DSD that is presently in vogue is presented in detail, with reference to old nomenclature. The individual DSD has been tabulated based on various differential characteristics. Two schemes for analysis of DSD types, based on clinical presentation, karyotype and endocrine profile has been proposed here. The risk of gonadal malignancy in different types of DSD is analyzed. The rationale of gender assignment, therapeutic options, and ethical dimension of treatment in DSD is reviewed in detail. Conclusion The optimal management of different types of DSD in the present era requires the following considerations: (1) establishment of a precise diagnosis, employing the advances in genetic and endocrine evaluation. (2) A multidisciplinary team is required for the diagnosis, evaluation, gender assignment and follow-up of these children, and during their transition to adulthood. (3) Deeper understanding of the issues in psychosexual development in DSD is vital for therapy. (4) The patients and their families should be an integral part of the decision-making process. (5) Recommendations for gender assignment should be based upon the specific outcome data. (6) The relative rarity of DSD should prompt constitution of DSD registers, to record and share information, on national/international basis. (7) The formation of peer support groups is equally important. The recognition that each subject with DSD is unique and requires individualized therapy remains the most paramount.

Childhood cancer and its treatment can impair survivors' development throughout life, particularly psychosexual development, which can be affected in complex ways and is crucial for survivors' well-being. Yet, research is scarce. This study assessed psychosexual development (milestone attainment, age at attainment, perceived timing) in young adult survivors of childhood cancer. It further examined sexual satisfaction and sexual functioning, and whether survivors' perceived timing of sexual debut was related to satisfaction or functioning. A registry-based nationwide survey was completed by N = 492 German survivors of childhood cancer (age 21–26 years, 6–26 years postdiagnosis). They completed standardized measures of psychosexual milestones (eg, first kiss, sexual debut), sexual satisfaction, and sexual functioning. Psychosexual development was compared to normative data (N = 1,533). Psychosexual development, sexual satisfaction, and sexual functioning were the primary outcome measures. Psychosexual development was characterized in three ways: milestone attainment (yes/no), age at attainment, perceived timing ("right" time, too early/late). Milestone attainment was comparable to normative data, except for sexual debut: Survivors were less often experienced (82.5% vs 88%; P =.002) and older at sexual debut (17.4 vs 16.2 years; g = 0.55), but most survivors (58.3%) perceived their timing as "right." Survivors of brain tumors were least likely to have had their sexual debut, but if experienced age at sexual debut was similar to other survivors. Female survivors were somewhat more experienced than males (eg, first kiss, first relationship; <10% difference), but they were somewhat older when they first kissed (g = 0.26). Age at diagnosis was unrelated to milestone attainment. Perceived early/late sexual debut was related to lower satisfaction in female survivors (P =.026), but unrelated to sexual dysfunction. Instead, partnered men reported particularly low dysfunction whereas women reported similar levels of sexual dysfunction irrespective of their relationship status (P =.049). Overall, sexual functioning was favorable (60.2%: not/barely problematic). Most survivors reported favorable sexual satisfaction and functioning, but a minority of survivors may need supportive services. This project represents one of few large-scale studies on psychosexual development in childhood cancer survivors relative to normative data, and is the first to link development to sexual satisfaction/functioning. Assessing satisfaction/functioning with validated, but brief measures limits detailed insights, but was inclusive of any sexual orientation. Medical background information based on registry data was limited. Results showed normative psychosexual development (except for sexual debut) in most survivors. Successful completion of normal stages of sexuality development is important for children and adolescents to enhance optimal life as an adult. Controversies arise for clinicians as they work with their pediatric patients regarding health care sexuality issues. It is important that clinicians help these patients in an unbiased and neutral manner. As adults, these children and adolescents will function in a number of sexuality roles, whether heterosexual, homosexual, pansexual, or other. Joyce's use of free-indirect style in A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man means that the narrative is filtered and distorted through Stephen's faltering and peculiar sensory perceptions. While Stephen's sight, touch, and smell have attracted scholarly attention, little has been said about the ways through which he hears his surroundings. This essay posits that sound, with its capacity to penetrate and resonate within the subject, plays an important role in shaping Stephen's sensorium and thus the novel's atmosphere. Moreover, Joyce's exploration of different registers of sound--especially the murmur--is a vehicle for mapping the flow and repression of Stephen's muffled and muted psychosexual energies, as well as those of the society around him. Uncertain, indistinct, and transgressive murmurs echo throughout the novel, calling into question the normative stability of the self, the clarity of desire, and the revelatory power of confession. Purpose: This study aims to identify the barriers that prevent community nurses in Israel from reporting cases of child maltreatment. Design/methodology/approach: A qualitative study included interviews of 20 community nurses using questions that focused on the following subjects: knowledge of the law and reporting methods, barriers to reporting and the nurses' outlook on child abuse. Findings: Nurses felt they have a lack of the professional knowledge needed to identify suspicious signs. Furthermore, finding indicates that there is a lack of understanding regarding the term "reasonable suspicion" under the law among nurses, and a lack of familiarity with the postreporting procedure. The duty to report is not, by itself, sufficient to increase the rate of reporting. The training in this area is insufficient. Practical implications: Policymakers must formulate clear rules to identify various forms of harm in children and determine the existence of a "reasonable basis" to believe that a crime has been committed among community nurses in Israel so that they can fulfill their legal and moral duty. Originality/value: Reporting abuse is a professional duty enshrined in law. The enactment of this law in Israel in 1989 created a new reality, designating a legal and moral obligation, on the part of society in general, as well as professionals, to break the code of silence surrounding child abuse. However, the present findings suggest that the rates of reporting among community nurses remain low. Delayed puberty (DP) defines a retardation of onset/progression of sexual maturation beyond the expected age from either a lack/delay of the hypothalamo-pituitary-gonadal axis activation or a gonadal failure. DP usually gives rise to concern and uncertainty in patients and their families, potentially affecting their immediate psychosocial well-being and also creating longer term psychosexual sequelae. The most frequent form of DP in younger teenagers is self-limiting and may not need any intervention. Conversely, DP from hypogonadism requires prompt and specific treatment that we summarize in this review. Hormone therapy primarily targets genital maturation, development of secondary sexual characteristics, and the achievement of target height in line with genetic potential, but other key standards of care include body composition and bone mass. Finally, pubertal induction should promote psychosexual development and mitigate both short- and long-term impairments comprising low self-esteem, social withdrawal, depression, and psychosexual difficulties. Different therapeutic options for pubertal induction have been described for both males and females, but we lack the necessary larger randomized trials to define the best approaches for both sexes. We provide an in-depth and updated literature review regarding therapeutic options for inducing puberty in males and females, particularly focusing on recent therapeutic refinements that better encompass the heterogeneity of this population, and underlining key differences in therapeutic timing and goals. We also highlight persistent shortcomings in clinical practice, wherein strategies directed at "the child with delayed puberty of uncertain etiology" risk being misapplied to older adolescents likely to have permanent hypogonadism. Purpose: The study aimed to compare the psychosocial development of young adult survivors of childhood cancer (YACCS) with a norm group of young adults from the general population. Methods: From 2017 to 2020, 558 YACCS (18–30 years, 51% female, 10.9% CNS cancer) who participated in the Dutch Childhood Cancer Survivor Study (DCCSS) LATER cohort (diagnosed 1963–2001) part 2 completed the Course of Life Questionnaire (CoLQ), assessing the achievement of milestones. Items were grouped into the scales autonomy, psychosexual, and social development. Differences between YACCS and norm group were examined with ANOVA and Cohen's d (CoLQ scales) and with logistic regression analysis and odds ratio (OR) (CoLQ items), for the total group and YACCS of CNS cancer. Results: The total group of YACCS did not report a less favorable psychosocial development than the norm group. YACCS of CNS cancer scored lower than the norm group (p < 0.001) on the scales autonomy (d = − 0.36) and psychosexual (d = − 0.46). Additionally, on half of the items of autonomy (0.25 ≤ OR ≤ 0.34), psychosexual (0.30 ≤ OR ≤ 0.48), and social (0.23 ≤ OR ≤ 0.47) development, YACCS of CNS cancer were less likely (p < 0.01) than the norm group to have achieved the milestones. Conclusion: Overall, psychosocial development of YACCS was as favorable as the norm, but YACCS of CNS cancer were at risk of an unfavorable psychosocial development in all domains. Monitoring psychosocial development should be included in the standards of psychosocial care, especially for CNS cancer patients and survivors, to be able to trace delay. Introduction: The climacteric is a natural transition stage in women, in which hormonal changes occur that affect the physical and psychological well-being. Therefore, the objective was to determine the relationship of the severity of climacteric symptomatology with depression and sexual function in women. Materials and methods: It was a descriptive, cross-sectional study, with a sample of 60 women between 40 and 65 years old. The Female Sexual Function Questionnaire-2, the Menopause Rating Scale, and the Beck Depression Inventory were used. Results: The mean age of the women was 49.1 ±5.6 years. 21.7% of the women had severe depression, 28.3% moderate, and 50% mild/minimal. Changes in sleep habits (1.73 ±0.88) and in appetite (1.63 ±0.73) were the most severe manifestations. Difficulty sleeping (1.05 ±0.99), physical and mental fatigue (1.48 ±0.98), and vaginal sequelae (1.45 ±1.26) were the most serious complaints in the somatic, psychological, and urogenital domains, respectively. 60% presented severe sexual dysfunction regarding genital pain and 55% in vaginal penetration. Communicating sexual preferences to the partner was common in 75% of women. 88.3% had frequent sexual activity, but 63.3% had zero or low sexual satisfaction. In I Communication and Economic Life i , Moor departs from the discrepancy between the general idea of "the economy" (often conflated with the macro economy) and the subjective and interpersonal aspects of economic life by centralizing how we come to know the former often is dependent on a very specific form of communication: the mass media.
