While Schelling's anticipation of Freudian psychoanalysis is well established, it has thus far gone unnoticed that Schelling's ideas also proved fruitful in the context of a distinctively philosophical theory of the psyche developed by a younger contemporary of Freud. During the 1920s Helmuth Plessner, a key figure of philosophical anthropology, outlined a complex conception of the psyche as an individualized, inner region of reality. Although Plessner did not present his philosophical psychology in a systematic form, its building blocks can be found in The Unity of the Senses, The Limits of Community, and Levels of Organic Life and the Human, among other writings. Moreover, Plessner left a clue as to how these building blocks fit together, which suggests that Plessner viewed his philosophical psychology as structurally analogous to the model of personality outlined in Schelling's 1809 treatise on human freedom. I propose that Plessner sought to formulate an alternative to both idealism and realism about the psyche that might reconcile the insights motivating these rival positions. Schelling provided Plessner with a workable model for such a reconciliation. After reviewing textual evidence for my hypothesis, I sketch Schelling's predecessor theory. Based on the Schellingian template, I then reconstruct Plessner's non-reductively naturalistic theory of the psyche, which aligns the real bodily ground of the psyche with its ideal existence. Highlighting the strengths of Plessner's philosophical psychology against the foil of Paul Ricoeur's and John McDowell's relevant arguments, I argue that the theory reconstructed here deserves contemporary consideration as a plausible contender. The thermal and chemical evolution of (16) Psyche would have been influenced by the direction of core solidification and thickness of an outer (rocky) silicate layer. We model the thermal evolution and core solidification of Psyche for a range of outer silicate layer thicknesses and core sulfur contents to calculate the resulting radial contraction and moments of inertia. We generally find that increasing the thickness of the outer silicate layer by 10 km results in a ∼1‐km reduction in total radial contraction. Additionally, we find that the timing of full core solidification, and thus a large amount of predicted contraction, can differ by up to 25 Myr for inward versus outward core growth. Finally, our calculated moment‐of‐inertia factors for models with inward core growth that contain sulfur are consistently larger than those with outward core growth. Ultimately, spacecraft‐derived estimates of Psyche's moment of inertia and surface contraction will be able to provide constraints on Psyche's interior evolution, silicate layer thickness, and direction of core solidification. Plain Language Summary: The asteroid Psyche has a metal‐rich surface but a lower density than pure metal. This means it may have a significant rocky component in addition to the metal. For the possible scenario in which Psyche is a differentiated body with a silicate rocky layer above an iron‐rich core, we model the temperature evolution for different amounts of rock and different core compositions. When a rocky or metal planetary body cools, it shrinks, which can result in a particular type of tectonic feature called thrust faults. We expect the differences in internal structure and the way in which the core freezes in our models to produce differences in the surface record of faults as well as in the distribution of mass within Psyche. We calculate the predicted decrease in radius and distribution of mass from each of our models and find that the surface record of faulting and the moment of inertia of Psyche are noticeably different depending on Psyche's silicate fraction and internal evolution. If Psyche is indeed a differentiated body, these features will be observed and measured when the dedicated NASA mission to Psyche arrives in 2029. Background: The nationwide study German Health Update (GEDA) 2021/2022-Diabetes was conducted to assess the current healthcare and health situation of adults with diabetes in Germany. Methods: GEDA 2021/2022-Diabetes comprises a sample of adults with diagnosed diabetes from the general population. The analysis focuses on adults aged 45 years and over with type 2 diabetes (N = 1,448) and provides selected indicators on diabetes care as well as mental, social and general health. Results: 87.5 % of participants aged 45 years and over with type 2 diabetes are treated with blood glucose-lowering medication. 36.5 % receive insulin alone or in combination with other antidiabetics; 0.7 % use an insulin pump. Almost 96 % had an HbA1c measurement in the last year and about two thirds each report annual foot and eye examinations, participation in a diabetes self-management education programme and self-monitoring of their feet and of blood glucose (12.0 % with continuous glucose monitoring). On average, the quality of diabetes care is perceived as moderate. 23.8 % rate their mental health as excellent/very good. More than a tenth each have anxiety or depressive symptoms and feelings of loneliness. Half rate their general health as very good/good. Conclusions: There is a potential for improvement in the quality of diabetes care and the mental and physical health of adults with type 2 diabetes.

This essay is an attempt to propose an outline of a new respiratory animal philosophy. Based on an analysis of the forgetting of breath in Western philosophy, it aims to gesture towards a future, breathful and compassionate world of co-sharing and co-breathing. In the first part, the basic features of forgetting of breath are explained based on David Abram's work in respiratory ecophilosophy. This part also introduces an important contribution to modern philosophy by Ludwig Klages. The second part is dedicated to reflections on what I understand as an unfortunate transition from soul and pneuma to spirit and Geist. Based on these analyses, I proceed towards an idiosyncratic thought on the nocturnal mystery of pneuma, with references to ancient Upanishadic and 20th-century phenomenological Levinasian thought. Based on these teachings, I argue that, at the bottom of her existence, the subject is a lung partaking in an immense external lung (Merleau-Ponty). In the fourth part of the essay, I extend my reflections toward comparative animal respiratory phenomenology and argue for the immense compassion for all our fellow breathing beings. Finally, in the concluding, fifth part of this essay, I am arguing for a future biocentric and breathful environment, signifying and bringing a new compassionate-respiratory alliance into the world. The memories of past experiences have an unconscious influence on the present. In her novel Beloved, Toni Morrison vividly portrays the atrocities of slavery, shedding light on the enduring psychic wounds inflicted upon subjugated Black women and their motherhood. This study explores the embedded memories, trauma, and dehumanization that control and distort the ability of Black individuals to respond to the human experiences of maternal bonds. While existing literature has extensively explored motherhood, a gap remains in understanding the archetypal development within the fragmented psyche of tormented mothers. Drawing from Carl Jung and Eric Neumann's collective unconscious and mother archetype concept, this interdisciplinary research aims to identify and examine the dual nature of motherhood - the loving and the terrible. Jungian psychotherapist Dr. Edward Tick has worked with American veterans of foreign wars for decades. During that time, he learned that one of the most effective paths to healing was to guide Vietnam veterans back there to retrieve their souls that had been left behind, often for decades. He took the acronym PTSD and translated it as Post-traumatic Soul Distress. Those in the medical profession worked with the physical injuries of traumatized veterans; however, they overlooked the trauma to the souls of these returning warriors. Tick and his wife, Kate Dahlstedt, founded Soldier's Heart () in order to travel more deeply into the mythology, spirituality, and psychology of woundedness. He continues his work today in branching out to a larger population suffering the wounds of a society itself in need of soul intervention. This article discusses the confluence of Body-Mind Centering (BMC)® practices with elements of Michael Chekhov's technique as foundations for an integrated psychophysical approach to acting that does not build divisions between the actor's body, psyche, and mind. For Chekhov, actors embody their characters from creative work, driven by embodied imagination and awareness of sensory perception. BMC® proposes 'embodiment', which is seen as an awareness process, at the cellular level, which occurs through the participant's experience itself, not through intellectual understanding. Linking sensory perception to imagination the author emphasizes the respect for the singularity in both approaches: for BMC® any self-perception of the body is valued and for Chekhov, actor's creative individuality must be respected. The author has investigated, in research-led workshops, experiences of the actor's living anatomy from body systems and patterns as new grounds for Michael Chekhov's acting technique. This work has explored a relationships between specific imaginary centres to correspondent organs and tissues of the body and particular movement qualities to specific body systems. The practice research revealed that BMC® broadens the perception of internal physical aspects, as a mental state, which supports the development of the skills sought by Chekhov for what he called 'inspired acting'. Furthermore, the systematization achieved in this research can be applied to sectors beyond the theatre, resonating with Fleming and Cornford et al.'s argument for a use of Chekhov Technique in applied, community and therapeutic contexts (2020). Sahitya Akademy award winner Jayanta Mahapatra's popular book A Rain Of Rites has an unusual enthrall and merit that I have attempted to interpret/unravel briefly in my own culturally creative mode in this article besides commemorating his death. It is a book having imagery and symbolism as its main thematic concern. The image of rain is used by the poet to symbolise fertility, creative impulse and destructive power-potency. The rain as metaphor at various places never falls rather gets converted into light and then fails to accomplish its objective. Moreover, the whole series of poems suggest a process of purification by means of strange stillness, quietude, solitude, mud-built houses, rivers, hills, trees and a vast stretch of landscapes. The soul of the poet is torn between good and evil, fair and foul and the ultimate judgement for deliverance, Mukti or salvation. The One, by theoretical physicist Heinrich Pas, reviews the history of monism from the Greeks to the modern period. Pas proposes a monism he calls "the One." His One follows from quantum mechanics. It is a universal wave function. He is then faced with how our everyday world arises. To answer he relies on a version of Evert's many-worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics and a process of decoherence that results in a dualism of consciousness and the quasi-classical world of space, time, and matter. C. G. Jung proposed a dual-aspect monism influenced by synchronicity. A comparison between Pas's monism and dualism and Jung's finds some apparent differences, but in the end they are found to be remarkably similar. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

OBJECTIVE: Patients with depression during labor display dysregulated patterns of oxytocin release and this may impact second stage of labor. The objective of this study was to evaluate the association between maternal preconception and antenatal depressive disorders on the duration of second stage of labor and perinatal outcomes. STUDY DESIGN: Secondary analysis of patients enrolled in the Behavioral and Mood in Mothers, Behavior in Infants study who reached the second stage of labor. Participants were assigned to: pre-conception only major depressive disorder (MDD), prenatal major depressive disorder, and non-depressed controls. Primary outcome was prolonged second stage of labor. Secondary outcomes included perinatal morbidities. RESULTS: 172 patients were included. 24.4% (42/172) participants had preconception-only MDD, 42.4% (73/172) patients had prenatal MDD, and 33.1% (57/172) patients had as non-depressed controls. The adjusted pair-wise analysis between groups showed no significant difference in the duration of second stage. No statistically significant differences were noted between groups for adverse neonatal outcomes. CONCLUSION: Maternal depressive disorders did not impact length of second stage of labor or immediate perinatal outcomes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The study's significance lies in the multitude of challenges facing individuals today, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, military conflicts like the war in Ukraine, and the escalating rates of cancer morbidity and mortality. These factors contribute to the onset of anxiety and depressive disorders, disrupting various aspects of individuals' mental functioning and social interactions. Addressing these disorders effectively necessitates a comprehensive approach, combining pharmacological interventions with psychotherapeutic strategies under the guidance of specialized professionals. In this regard, the study is aimed at identifying aspects and features of the development of psychological problems and personality disorders in the modern world filled with various stressors. The leading methods of studying this problem are analysis, synthesis, induction, deduction, comparison, experiment and systematisation of approaches that will help determine a wide range of mental disorders. Theoretical methods were used to analyze the literature and summarize theoretical material on anxiety and depressive disorders. Diagnostic methods were used to assess the psychological state of the study population. The study examines significant clinical syndromes and vegetative disorders that disrupt normal lifestyle, hinder daily activities, and impede professional growth. It evaluates the roles of psychologists, psychiatrists, and social workers in assisting individuals with anxiety disorders. It outlines preventive measures for anxiety and depression, while also delving into various types of anxiety disorders. The research proposes diverse methods to prevent emotional anxiety and instability. It underscores the importance of devising novel strategies for diagnosis and therapy, emphasizing a comprehensive approach involving psychotherapeutic support, medical intervention, and adaptive behavioral techniques. The findings of the study hold both practical and theoretical significance for professionals in psychology, psychiatry, psychoanalysis, and sociology who provide support for individuals with anxiety and depressive disorders. Furthermore, the insights provided may be pertinent to researchers and scholars investigating the psychological well-being of contemporary society amidst adverse external circumstances.

Abstract Astronomical observations indicate that asteroid (16) Psyche is a large, high‐density (likely >3,400 kg·m−3), metal‐rich (30–55 vol. %) asteroid. Psyche may be remnant core material or it could be a primordial, undifferentiated metal‐rich object. We discuss the science objectives of the upcoming Psyche mission, which will employ three instruments (the Magnetometer, Multispectral Imager, and Gamma‐Ray and Neutron Spectrometer) and will use Doppler tracking of the spacecraft to explore the asteroid. This mission will shed light on the nature and origins of metal‐rich objects in the solar system and beyond, including the cores of the terrestrial planets.

The following study presents a concise historical overview of natural philosophy, examining the interpretations of the human psyche and their development up until the contemporary era. The presentation focuses on some of the main theories regarding the nature and functions of the mind, aiming to contrast them with one of the unfulfilled intellectual projects of the Romanian polymath C. Rădulescu-Motru. Specifically, his project aimed to establish a philosophical system addressing the intricacies of the human soul in the context of the scientific advances considered modern at the time–a system he referred to as the new science of the soul. His objective was to provide a comprehensive perspective encompassing all areas of knowledge in order to mitigate their tendency towards determinism, mechanism and biologism, which were spreading from the direction of the natural science.

This text helps to answer the question of whether the validity of myth has an active psychic function in the unconscious search for meaning in the life of modern men, which is assumed to be far removed from all mythical and ritual thought and immersed in a context in which reason is the only criterion of truth. The text focuses, therefore, on analyzing the power and influence of this psychic reality in the conscious world and on reflecting on whether this imaginal phenomenon has any use in the civilizing process or whether, on the contrary, the myth is rather a ballast, a simple chimera that makes it difficult to understand and accept the complicated conditions of today’s existence. The texts also reflects on whether dealing with this imaginal and symbolic universe meets the unconscious expectations and desires of today’s men to find meaning in their existence. The research methodology is based on the psychic phenomenology proposed by Carl Jung, and is also nourished, to a large extent, by the theoretical and conceptual contributions of the Romanian philosopher Mircea Eliade. In the rational world, the subconscious of current human beings does not cease to present innumerable myths and symbols, since it is never completely detached from the imaginal world. This is due to the fact that individuals are unconsciously influenced by ancestral mythological models of behavior that remain latent in the depths of the human being.

The early history of Sangam is revealed through the book of Agapoorul “Eraiynar Kalaviyal Urai”. The period of the book is before the 8th century. Tamil language and Tamil Literature portray the ancient Tamil people's antiquity and life. Sangam Literature is the base authority of ancient Tamil people and culture. Among the “Ettuthogai” books in Sangam Literature, Ainkurunuru speaks about the life of the Leader (Thalaivan) and the beloved (Thalaivi). Although it is short, it stands a virtual role in the subtlety of the subject and also explains the feeling of the lovers with the excellence of human feelings and emotions. The words used in “Ainkurunooru” mingle with our heart and also make us feel the state of joining with ancient people's feelings. Although psychological concepts are listed in the “Ainkurunooru”, they are not explained what that is properly. Mostly, the Sangam literature and the chosen work “Ainkurunooru” speak of the psychological turmoil of the beloved when the Leader is absent from home for the sake of war or business. Very simple studies focussed on the psychological state of the beloved’s friend (Thozhi). The article examines the state of mind of the beloved’s friend (Thozhi) systematically with the psychological projections and regressions of the beloved that affect her psyche. Although there are main characters in “Ainkurunooru” like the leader and beloved, the main purpose of this article is to examine the psyche of the friend (Thozhi) with the evidence found in “Ainkurunooru”.

Background. Any method of research or influence has limits of applicability. Determining the limits of applicability of the cultural-historical approach will reveal new phenomena in the study of living subjectivity that cannot be investigated within the framework of the cultural-historical approach to the psyche. Objective of the study was to determine the limits of applicability of the cultural-historical method and to describe new mental phenomena, the study of which requires fundamentally different methodological approaches. Methods. The material is the author’s and his colleagues’ long-term research in the field of functioning and development of consciousness. The method involved logical analysis when comparing the cultural-historical approach to psyche and the approach based on intuitive-reflective self-observation of living subjectivity. Results. The analysis showed that cultural-historical method and socio-cultural method derived from it, aim at managing subjectivity with the help of objectified structures of the psyche — sign-symbolic formations such as speech, logical thinking, scientific concepts, social norms or culturally developed perceptual patterns. At the same time, the “fossils of living subjectivity” — symbols and signs, scientific concepts, schemes, algorithms, norms, theories, and others — are “psychological tools” that mediate the operation of living subjectivity. All directions in Russian psychology within this approach originated from this approach — the assertion of the leading role of speech in the development of the higher mental functions (HMF) by L.S. Vygotsky, the concept of the orienting basis of action (IBA) by P.Ya. Galperin, school programs for teaching concepts by D.B. Elkonin and V.V. Davydov, neuropsychological methods by A.R. Luria, studies of the development of voluntary movements by A.V. Zaporozhets and others. All these approaches worked; however, the living subjectivity remained a mystery. On the contrary, the method applicable to the study of living subjectivity can be called the method of “releasing impact” — an experiment based on self-observation and self-report in conditions where the subject can freely structure reality. Conclusion. The cultural-historical method is effective in teaching ready-made knowledge at school, in developing skills, restoring lost cognitive functions in patients, or shaping cognitive and socio-moral forms of behavior based on external control. However, this method is not applicable to living subjectivity — experiences, the motivational-semantic sphere based on the magical laws of participation, emotional sphere and creative thinking, since this method considers a person as an object. The principles of studying living subjectivity are proposed, practical approaches to influence living subjectivity, as well as the contradictions and dangers associated with them are analyzed.

The article deals with the story of the French pre-romanticist J. Cazotte “The Devil in Love” and the late novella of the German romanticist E.T.A. Hoffmann’s “Elemental Spirit”, in which, as in a “magic mirror”, recurring fantastic events of the temptation of heroes by evil spirits are presented. The relevance of the study is related to the problem of the formation of science fiction as a historical concept. It is shown that the characters have a love feeling for the messengers of the natural world. Faced with a miracle, they become participants in supernatural events and experience the “pernicious consequences of fiery imagination.” It is noted that the dream of carnal love, its bodily embodiment, sobering up are presented through a deep penetration into the psychology of the characters. It describes how the supernatural is introduced into everyday life with the help of symbolic images: a mirror, a dagger, a dream, a mother, etc. It is emphasized that the motive of temptation in conjunction with the motives of trial, fall, suffering, fate create a kind of “circle”. The novelty of the study is connected with the identification in the system of characters of the tempted person image as a direct participant (witness) of supernatural events. This approach made it possible to present a historical perspective, complicated and refined, of J. Cazotte temptation motif functioning in the romantic era in the work of E. T. A. Hoffmann and in the works of Russian writers.

Katherine Olivetti has a conversation with Museum Sage Laurie Phillips about the origin of Museum Sage, a game of psychological imagination she created, and the process of intuitively dialoging with art to answer personal questions. In this work, we intend to present a reading of current society as the extinction society. Extinction society here means the characterization, both social and individual, of a highly developed reality, especially in terms of personal freedom, unable to face global collective threats, first of all the climate disaster. This involves the risk, within a few generations, of the extinction of both the type of society that at least in the West we have been accustomed to for a few hundred years, and in the apocalyptic perspective of the species. The attempt to represent this question is addressed here by referring to some recent authors of cultural studies and sociology, to try and understand the principles of this extinction process. Following the analysis of what is in fact a process of individual liberation, that is, of increasingly advanced individualization, we proceed by looking at the macro‐themes of consumption, politics and psyche. This psychoanalytic study of affective labour focuses on its two central elements: human contact and love. It is based on a multi-sited organizational ethnography of the fine dining sector in Istanbul, Turkey, where new restaurant areas known as 'show kitchens' place chefs in face-to-face contact with patrons. To understand the psychosocial processes of affective production, we analyse chefs' and patrons' experiences of encounters in and around 'show kitchens'. We demonstrate that affect is produced through unconscious contact mediated by socio-cultural representations, which are hegemonized by the ethos of love for one's job. We contribute to the extant literature on affective labour by studying the desirous interplay between producers and consumers of affect. Specifically, we theorize the role of the psyche in affective production, and offer a new, psychoanalytic conceptualization of affective labour. The memories carried by the Palestinian people can be understood in two forms. First, there are the memories as a result of direct trauma recieved through displacement and death throughout the history of the Zionist colonial project. The Palestinian Nakba, as but one example, highlights the extent of such memories through the traumatizing military massacres and forced expulsion of over 750,000 Palestinians at the hands of Zionist militant groups. These direct memories are carried from generation to generation and transform into a looming sense of collective melancholy experienced by the later generations both in historical Palestine as well as those living in diaspora. There is a clear disconnect in historical academia as people try to understand the suffering of the Palestinians through questionable historical frameworks rather than a lens that accurately represents the memories and trauma of the Palestinians as they had and continue to experience. As a result, Palestinians today find their memories of trauma challenged and in some cases outright denied via these historical frameworks and atmospheres produced by the Israeli government. The question is then how could we be able to understand trauma and memory as it relates to the Paletsinians? Throughout this thesis we will explore several different forms of translating and transmitting Paletsinian memory.

The relevance of the problem is the need to highlight specific differences in the psychological portraits of a sociopath, sociophobe and introvert to distinguish clearly between seemingly similar concepts. The purpose of the research is to detail the specific features of human mental states, to establish the differential characteristics of a sociopath, sociophobe and introvert, and to distinguish each of these states as a separate independent component of the human psyche. Statistical and analytical methods were used to obtain the necessary results. The main markers of sociophobic behaviour are considered, and it is noted that they can manifest themselves with varying intensity depending on the severity of the symptoms of sociophobia. The author presents a psychological portrait of a sociopath and defines the typology of sociopathy. The main features of an introverted personality are identified, the advantages that introverts have in comparison with extroverts and the main forms of their maladjustment are considered. The specific framework of each concept examined is highlighted, and the differences between them are indicated. It is substantiated that introversion appears in humans from birth and is associated with the specific structure of the brain, while sociopathy and sociophobia are acquired throughout life as a result of psychological and physiological trauma. It is identified that a sociophobe and a sociopath differ in psychological characteristics, as a sociophobe is afraid of people, and a sociopath hates people. It is proved that, unlike sociophobia and sociopathy, introversion is not a mental disorder, but an element of a healthy psyche. The practical significance of the research is that the results will help to distinguish the psychological states of a person, to understand and differentiate the analysed concepts more clearly, to preliminarily determine one’s psychological state, to establish a specific framework for a simplified psychologist’s conclusion, and to identify important details and features of the manifestations of a sociopath, sociophobe and introvert.

Psychodermatology is an emerging newer subspecialty of dermatology, which comprises dermatology, psychiatry, and psychology. Eventhough the concept is old this dictum has acquired tremendous importance in recent decades. The mind and body are considered as a single unit instead of mind versus body dualism, and this stresses the need for holistic approach of disease management. Formerly, the biomedical concept of disease was very prevalent, which compared the human body to a machine and the doctor was like a technician doing the repair work of human machine, where the mind was completely neglected. But in this recent concept the mind has very important role in health, disease causation and healing. Skin is a part of neuro-immuno-cutaneous-endocrine system. So any disease affecting skin can affect the mind and vise versa. This essay is an attempt to propose an outline of a new respiratory animal philosophy. Based on an analysis of the forgetting of breath in Western philosophy, it aims to gesture towards a future, breathful and compassionate world of co-sharing and co-breathing. In the first part, the basic features of forgetting of breath are explained based on David Abram’s work in respiratory ecophilosophy. This part also introduces an important contribution to modern philosophy by Ludwig Klages. The second part is dedicated to reflections on what I understand as an unfortunate transition from soul and pneuma to spirit and Geist. Based on these analyses, I proceed towards an idiosyncratic thought on the nocturnal mystery of pneuma, with references to ancient Upanishadic and 20th-century phenomenological Levinasian thought. Based on these teachings, I argue that, at the bottom of her existence, the subject is a lung partaking in an immense external lung (Merleau-Ponty). In the fourth part of the essay, I extend my reflections toward comparative animal respiratory phenomenology and argue for the immense compassion for all our fellow breathing beings. Finally, in the concluding, fifth part of this essay, I am arguing for a future biocentric and breathful environment, signifying and bringing a new compassionate-respiratory alliance into the world.

Diva was a French film released to European audiences in 1981 and American ones in 1982. Directed by Jean-Jacques Beineix, this film comes from the 1970s cinéma du look movement that used striking imagery to portray social outsiders and express their alienation from society. This article summarizes the film, its characters, cinematography, and innovative musical score by Vladimir Cosma. Recurring motifs in the film emphasize a tenuous fragmentation that not only depicts life struggles for those who felt marginalized during the early 1980s, but also suggests an avant-garde possibility for conceptualizing the psyche. Rather than emphasizing static forms of identity, or identifying categories, Diva helps viewers appreciate the multiplicity of human experience and also its fragility. The author reviews Jung's experimentation with mandalas and discusses his writings about them as illustrations of the psyche, in particular, the self trying to represent a kind of psychological order. Although Diva could be considered a type of film mandala, the author suggests that the term mosaic is more accurate—that it is a film mosaic. Further, he extends this interpretation to propose an updated view of human psyche as mosaic, a dynamic form with many disparate parts that we hope to hold together but often cannot. The NASA Psyche mission's program to engage university undergraduates and the public in the mission is inspired by and built upon the extensive foundation of public engagement, educational outreach activities, and expertise of NASA and mission partner institutions. The program leverages the enthusiasm and contributions of undergraduates nationwide to the benefit of the mission, the students and their institutions and communities, and the broader public. Psyche Student Collaborations consists of four main programs, two (Psyche Capstone and Psyche Inspired) are available solely to undergraduates enrolled at universities or community colleges in the United States and its territories and two (Innovation Toolkit free online courses and Science Outreach Interns and Docents) invite broader participation by engaging the talents and creativity of undergraduate interns to help create content and events to reach the public and lifelong learners. Together, these offerings provide multiple entry points and a spectrum of intensity of experiences, numbers of participants, disciplinary diversity, and mode of delivery. Involving undergraduates in all phases of the program supports the development of the next generation of explorers, contributes to the nation's workforce preparation, and complements NASA's existing undergraduate offerings by providing long-term opportunities for students to participate with the mission through established postsecondary education structures like capstone courses. The objective of the Psyche Magnetometry Investigation is to test the hypothesis that asteroid (16) Psyche formed from the core of a differentiated planetesimal. To address this, the Psyche Magnetometer will measure the magnetic field around the asteroid to search for evidence of remanent magnetization. Paleomagnetic measurements of meteorites and dynamo theory indicate that a diversity of planetesimals once generated dynamo magnetic fields in their metallic cores. Likewise, the detection of a strong magnetic moment (> 2 × 10 14 Am 2 ) at Psyche would likely indicate that the body once generated a core dynamo, implying that it formed by igneous differentiation. The Psyche Magnetometer consists of two three-axis fluxgate Sensor Units (SUs) mounted 0.7 m apart along a 2.15-m long boom and connected to two Electronics Units (EUs) located within the spacecraft bus. The Magnetometer samples at up to 50 Hz, has a range of ± 80 , 000 nT , and an instrument noise of 39 pT axis − 1 3 σ integrated over 0.1 to 1 Hz. The two pairs of SUs and EUs provide redundancy and enable gradiometry measurements to suppress noise from flight system magnetic fields. The Magnetometer will be powered on soon after launch and acquire data for the full duration of the mission. This article reassesses the place of Louisa May Alcott's pseudonymous domestic horror fiction in the wider canon of her work. Traditionally, Alcott's domestic horror writing has been viewed as an expression of her repressed authorial individualism and desire for incorporation into a male literary tradition. Through examining Alcott's allusions to Nathaniel Hawthorne, I argue that her domestic horror writing exposes the traumatic repercussions of male individualism for women in the work of her contemporaries. Her pseudonymous horror novella, A Marble Woman (1865), appropriates Hawthorne's allusions to the Pygmalion myth in his earlier novel, The Marble Faun (1860), to demonstrate that the male artist's preoccupation with a lifeless muse is contingent upon acts of psychological abuse. Alcott interrogates Hawthorne's elevation of the female copyist to demonstrate that Hawthorne only endorses women's art when it supports male traditions of creativity, thereby placing women in a subordinate role that stunts their creative power. In place of copyism, Alcott promotes an equal relationship between male and female artists that enables women to critique the work of men. Her domestic horror writing should therefore be read as satirical commentary on the elevation of male artists in the work of her contemporaries in the Concord circle. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study analyses the literature to define the concept of defence mechanism in prisoners, and investigates, compares, and presents its different features. Some years ago, the consensus was that asteroid (16) Psyche was almost entirely metal. New data on density, radar properties, and spectral signatures indicate that the asteroid is something perhaps even more enigmatic: a mixed metal and silicate world. Here we combine observations of Psyche with data from meteorites and models for planetesimal formation to produce the best current hypotheses for Psyche's properties and provenance. Psyche's bulk density appears to be between 3,400 and 4,100 kg m-3. Psyche is thus predicted to have between ~30 and ~60 vol% metal, with the remainder likely low-iron silicate rock and not more than ~20% porosity. Though their density is similar, mesosiderites are an unlikely analog to bulk Psyche because mesosiderites have far more iron-rich silicates than Psyche appears to have. CB chondrites match both Psyche's density and spectral properties, as can some pallasites, although typical pallasitic olivine contains too much iron to be consistent with the reflectance spectra. Final answers, as well as resolution of contradictions in the data set of Psyche physical properties, for example, the thermal inertia measurements, may not be resolved until the NASA Psyche mission arrives in orbit at the asteroid. Despite the range of compositions and formation processes for Psyche allowed by the current data, the science payload of the Psyche mission (magnetometers, multispectral imagers, neutron spectrometer, and a gamma-ray spectrometer) will produce data sets that distinguish among the models.
