The purpose of the current study was to clarify the effects of illness perceptions, coping styles, and social support on psychological distress of individuals with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) isolating at home. A cross-sectional study was performed in a state hospital in Turkey with 112 individuals with confirmed cases of COVID-19. Data were collected online using self-report scales between June 8, 2020, and December 25, 2020. Regression models were used to determine predictors of psychological distress. Significant predictors were cognitive and emotional illness representations, self-blame, and positive reinterpretation coping methods. Health care providers should consider individuals' illness perceptions and coping methods and their effect on psychological distress when providing in-home and follow-up care. The current pre-/posttest pilot study investigated the impact of an individual nurse-led active listening intervention for spouses of individuals with depression (herein referred to as patients) on spouses' psychological states and patients' depressive symptoms. Sixteen couples participated in the study. Individual sessions were conducted over 10 weeks to help spouses express their thoughts and feelings. Psychological measurement scale scores did not change markedly postintervention for spouses; however, their subjective evaluations of the intervention were positive. In the qualitative analysis, spouses stated that they were able to express their thoughts and feelings and that the sessions were meaningful. Moreover, postintervention depressive scores of patients improved significantly. Findings suggest that the nurse-led intervention of active listening for spouses may provide a better environment for improving the depressive symptoms of patients. Although effective evidence-based interventions (EBIs) exist, racial/ethnic minority individuals with lower income are less likely to have access to these interventions and may experience greater stigma in the health care system, resulting in disproportionate rates of morbidity and mortality. Peer recovery specialists (PRSs) may be uniquely suited to address barriers faced by those from impoverished areas; however, peers have not traditionally been trained in implementing EBIs. The current open-label trial ( N = 8) was performed to evaluate implementation and preliminary effectiveness of an adapted EBI supporting recovery, linkage to treatment, and reduced depression. Results suggest the intervention was feasible, acceptable, and appropriate for linking individuals from a community setting to substance use treatment and could be delivered with fidelity by a peer interventionist. Participants who completed the intervention demonstrated clinically reliable decreases in substance use and depressive symptoms. Findings provide initial support for PRS dissemination of EBIs to increase linkage to care and support recovery in traditionally underserved populations. Using the social determinants of health (SDOH) framework, the current study aimed to examine opioid literacy and the role of SDOH on opioid literacy. This study used a cross-sectional survey design to collect self-reported data from people living in four rural Alabama counties affected by the opioid crisis. Participants reported moderate levels of opioid knowledge. There were no significant predictors of general knowledge. For opioid overdose knowledge, the strongest individual predictors were educational level (Bachelor's degree) and self-rated financial strain, which contributed to higher scale scores. For the models evaluating opioid overdose response knowledge, the strongest individual predictors were minority status (inverse), self-rated mental health, and interpersonal safety. Our findings indicate that SDOH, such as financial strain and interpersonal safety, are significantly linked to opioid literacy. Educational efforts to enhance opioid literacy, proper usage, and management in rural counties should consider SDOH factors. Findings further outline the team's integrative approach to developing intervention strategies for opioid treatment and recovery that can benefit the northwest Alabama community and beyond. The purpose of the current study was to identify biopsychosocial factors associated with depressive symptoms among Hispanic women aged ≥50 years. Cross-sectional data related to 10 biological, psychological, and social factors were analyzed. Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale scores suggested that 32% of the sample had depressive symptoms. Self-esteem, self-perception of health status, income, and chronic pain had statistically significant associations with depressive symptoms. A logistic regression analysis showed that increasing self-esteem scores were associated with decreases in the likelihood of having depressive symptoms. Findings underscore that depression is associated with biological, psychological, and social factors. Culturally tailored interventions that aim at targeting these factors may have an impact on Hispanic women's depression and overall well-being. Social media has been classified as a new form of addiction. The aim of the current systematic review was to analyze social media's impact on body image and well-being among adolescents and young adults. Twenty-one articles published from 2015 to April 2020 were analyzed. Misuse or intensive use of social media was related to body dissatisfaction, low self-esteem, risky behaviors, and eating disorders. Information manipulation, lack of media literacy, and internalization of ideal body standards trigger mental problems and risky eating behaviors in this population. Purpose: This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of the training program which was based on cognitive behavioral theory on accepting and expressing emotions in terms of nurses' psychological resilience and depression levels. Design and methods: The study is an intervention study with a control group conducted with pretest, posttest, and two-year follow-up test design in line with Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials (CONSORT). The participants in the intervention group attended an eight-week accepting and expressing emotions training program, while those in the control group did not. The Psychological Resilience Scale for Adults (RSA) and Beck's Depression Inventory (BDI) were applied to both groups as pre-test, post-test and 6-month follow-up (T2), 12-month follow-up (T3) and 24-month follow-up (T4). Results: It was determined that there was a significant change in RSA scale scores of the intervention group, and that the effect of group ∗ time interaction for all scores was significant. An increase in the total score was found for all follow-up periods with respect to T1. A significant decrease was determined in BDI scores of the intervention group, and the effect of group-time interaction for all scores was found to be significant. It was found that there was a decrease in the scores of the intervention group in all follow-up periods with respect to T1. Conclusions: The results obtained from the study showed that the training program conducted with groups on accepting and expressing emotions was effective on the nurses' psychological resilience and depression scores. Practice implications: Training programs that develop the skills of accepting and expression emotions can help nurses find their thoughts underlying their emotions. Thus, depression levels of nurses can decrease, and their psychological resilience can improve. This situation can help in terms of reducing workplace stress of nurses and can cause their working life to be more effective.

What is Known about the Subject?: Self-management is essential in the treatment of those who have bipolar disorder. There are many apps to support self-management, but we know that these apps only sometimes cover the users' needs. What is Added to Existing Knowledge?: In our research, we made an inventory of apps that people with bipolar disorder use to cover their needs in self-management. We also have searched for the reasons to start, continue, switch or quit the use of those apps. We found that 44% (n = 18) of our respondents use health-related apps for self-management purposes. Apps for physical activity, planning and structure and apps for relaxation were most used. In the use of apps, the “freedom of choice” and user-friendliness are the most important in continuing the use of apps, while malfunctioning and “not fitting in individual needs” the main reasons were for quitting the use of apps. Implications for Practice: Various apps can be used for self-management purposes as long as these apps meet the individual user's requirements. Clinicians and patients should have a broad view when looking for suitable apps and not limit the search to just professional apps. In developing new apps, patients, clinicians and developers should collaborate in the development process, requirements and design. Abstract: Introduction: Self-management is one of the cornerstones in the treatment of bipolar disorder (BD). Complementing interventions by apps are seen as a good opportunity to support self-management. However, there is insufficient knowledge about understanding the use of health-related applications by consumers with BD for self-management purposes. Aim: The study aims to gain insight from patients diagnosed with BD about reasons to use, continue or discontinue health-related apps. Method: This study employed a mixed-method design in which 41 participants diagnosed with BD participated in a quantitative survey, and 11 participants also participated in an in-depth interview. Results: The survey showed that 44% (n = 18) of the participants use health-related apps, and 26.8% (n = 11) use those apps consistently. Interviews revealed that adjustability, usability, trustworthiness and the guarantee of privacy were the main reasons determining whether participants used or terminated the use of a health-related app. Implications for Practice: Although we found that a substantial number of patients diagnosed with BD use one or more apps to support self-management, their use is often discontinued due to content that needs more robust to address their needs. Besides appropriate content, tailoring and persuasive technologies will likely promote the continued use of an app for self-management purposes. Cooperation between those diagnosed with bipolar disorder and health professionals (like mental health nurses) in developing and designing applications that are aimed to support self-management in BD is necessary for successful implementation and adaptation.

Aim: This study aimed to determine the effect of Self-Regulation Based Cognitive Psychoeducation Program on emotion regulation and self-efficacy in children diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and receiving medication. Method: The sample of this study with control group and pre-test, post-test and follow-up randomized experimental design consisted of children followed in the child and adolescent mental health outpatient clinic of a state hospital. The data were evaluated by parametric and non-parametric analyses. Results: A statistically significant increase was determined in the internal functional emotion regulation mean scores of children, who participated in the Self-Regulation Based Cognitive Psychoeducation Program, measured before, immediately after, and 6 months after the intervention (p < 0.05). A statistically significant increase was also found in their external functional emotion regulation mean scores measured before and 6 months after the intervention (p < 0.05). In addition, a statistically significant difference was found between their internal dysfunctional and external dysfunctional emotion regulation mean scores measured before and 6 months after the intervention; however the mean scores of those in the control group 6 months after the intervention were higher than those in the intervention group (p < 0.05). Furthermore, there was a statistically significant increase in their self-efficacy mean scores measured before and 6 months after the intervention (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The Self-Regulation Based Cognitive Psychoeducation Program was found be effective in increasing the levels of emotion regulation and self-efficacy in children with ADHD.

La seguridad, así como el acceso a la información y formación relativa a la prevención es un derecho que todas las personas deben tener garantizado. Este no es el caso de la mayoría de las personas con discapacidad intelectual (DI), quienes pueden presentar numerosas dificultades para desenvolverse en situaciones de emergencia. El proyecto SIT (Seguridad, Inclusión y Tecnología)se centra en el diseño y desarrollo de una solución tecnológica que permita la identificación, atención y formación preventiva de personas con DI en situaciones de emergencia con el fin de mejorar así su autodeterminación y calidad de vida. Para ello hemos utilizado la metodología de la Investigación Basada en el Diseño (DBR) como método de investigación por su característica cíclica de refinamiento de los productos diseñados. Esto nos ha permitido validar el contenido de la aplicación SOSDI y la web del proyecto SIT en sus versiones teóricas finales. En este artículo podrán encontrar el flujo de uso, la definición detallada de cada una de las partes de los productos, así como los aspectos de accesibilidad que se han tenido en cuenta para garantizar la accesibilidad cognitiva.

El daño cerebral adquirido (DCA) puede provocar secuelas físicas, motrices, neuropsicológicas y generar una discapacidad en las personas afectadas. La rehabilitación neuropsicológica holística trata de reducir las secuelas cognitivas, conductuales, emocionales y sociales. El abordaje holístico plantea un trabajo que combine intervenciones individuales, grupales, la práctica en entornos lo más reales posibles, así como la intervención familiar y vocacional. Este tipo de rehabilitación busca generalizar los resultados alcanzados a la vida cotidiana, para incrementar la funcionalidad, autonomía y calidad de vida. El objetivo del estudio fue analizar y comparar el rendimiento cognitivo, y la calidad de vida percibida, antes y después de realizar un programa de rehabilitación neuropsicológico holístico con actividades en entornos reales. Se analizó una muestra de 20 personas con DCA. La evaluación neuropsicológica analizó atención, memoria, funciones ejecutivas y calidad de vida. Los resultados mostraron diferencias estadísticamente significativa en el rendimiento de atención, memoria de trabajo, funciones ejecutivas, y calidad de vida. Estos hallazgos sugieren que la rehabilitación neuropsicológica holística, que englobe el trabajo en entornos reales, podría mejorar la generalización de la evolución cognitiva a la vida cotidiana, e incrementar la calidad de vida de las personas con DCA.

En los últimos años ha surgido un creciente interés en relación con la identidad de género y la orientación sexual de las personas con trastorno del espectro del autismo (TEA). La presente revisión sistemática analiza un total de 18 estudios, publicados a partir de 2016, con la finalidad de obtener evidencias acerca de la identidad y disforia de género, y la orientación sexual en la población con TEA. Los resultados indicaron que existe una mayor prevalencia de identidad de género no conforme y de disforia de género en la población con TEA. Se encontró una mayor prevalencia de orientación no heterosexual en las personas con TEA en comparación con la población sin TEA. Estos resultados se encuentran preferentemente en las mujeres con TEA. No obstante, es necesario disponer de más y mejores evidencias sobre esta temática, especialmente en mujeres, y en las etapas de la niñez y la adolescencia, con el fin de implementar apoyos y recursos adecuados para dar respuesta a las necesidades de estas personas.

Los retos que enfrentó el profesorado durante el confinamiento causado por la Covid-19 se acrecentaron para quienes atienden estudiantes con necesidades educativas especiales o barreras para el aprendizaje, a causa de la escasez de herramientas tecnológicas especializadas y el incipiente desarrollo de competencias digitales. El objetivo de este artículo es analizar las condiciones en las que este profesorado que labora en educación básica y media superior en México, trabajó durante el período abril 2020-diciembre 2021. Se realizó una investigación atributiva estructural de alcance explicativo que empleó la encuesta como técnica de recuperación de información. Participaron 140 docentes cuyas respuestas fueron analizadas estadísticamente y cartografiadas utilizando el Sistema de Información Geográfica y el programa ArcGIS, con la finalidad de destacar diferencias y carencias regionales. Los resultados se centran en dos ejes del Marco Común de Competencia Digital Docente (Creación de contenidos y Seguridad), y evidencian la persistencia de brechas socioeducativas, siendo docentes de zonas urbanas quienes expresan haber desarrollado estas competencias, destacando quienes tienen menos años de servicio, mayores grados académicos y buscan estabilidad laboral, lo que lleva a concluir en la necesidad de fortalecer procesos formativos diferenciados que respondan a las necesidades específicas de los contextos educativos.

El Diseño Universal (DU) de productos para personas con discapacidad física, en el caso de adultos con parálisis cerebral, necesita de evidencia científica. Este trabajo tiene como objetivo conocer las percepciones sobre el uso de diseños de soporte para smartphone por este grupo con discapacidad, tomando como marco referencial los siete principios del DU. Para ello, se realizó un grupo focal que fue presencial con adultos con parálisis cerebral del interior de São Paulo, Brasil. Se tomó como ejemplo seis diseños de soporte para usar el smartphone en una superficie plana o en otro tipo de superficie, que fueron evaluados por el grupo de participantes. Fue seleccionado un diseño que era útil para todos independientemente de su discapacidad y que mostraba funciones adicionales para utilizar el smartphone. Se concluye que el estudio en base al modelo del DU es una herramienta teórica y práctica valiosa para identificar las perspectivas de las personas con discapacidad, así como reflexionar sobre las mejoras del producto que puedan adaptarse a sus necesidades.
