Soybean foliar diseases negatively affect leaf area index (LAI) and compromise the main structure for photosynthesis and grain yield. The objective of this study was to propose a new methodology to determine the commencement of fungicide application based on the soybean LAI, spray volumes, and the inclusion of a multisite fungicide to control Asian soybean rust (ASR). The study was implemented in a randomized block design at two locations, with four replicates in a factorial scheme plus one additional treatment (4 × 2 × 2 + 1) - four soybean LAI (0.9, 1.8, 3.6, and 6.1) indicating the initiation stages of fungicide applications, two spray volumes (70 and 120 L ha-1), with or without multisite fungicide (mancozeb), and a control treatment without fungicide. The spray deposition on plants did not differ between the treatments for 1.8 and 3.6 LAI. Treatments including the multisite fungicide for LAI between 3.6 and 6.1 for both spray volumes presented superior ASR control results. The highest soybean yields were observed when fungicide application started at 3.6 LAI for both spray volumes. The best correlation between disease control and grain yield occurred when the applications started at 3.6 LAI with 70 L ha-1 spray volume and the multisite fungicide. RESUMO As doenças foliares da soja afetam o índice de área foliar (IAF) e a estrutura principal para a fotossíntese e a produtividade. O objetivo deste estudo foi propor uma nova metodologia para determinar o início das aplicações de fungicidas, com base no IAF, na taxa de aplicação e na inclusão de um fungicida multissítio, para controlar a ferrugem asiática da soja (FAS). O estudo foi implementado no delineamento de blocos casualizados e em dois locais, com quatro repetições em um esquema fatorial triplo mais um tratamento adicional (4 × 2 × 2 + 1), sendo 4 IAF da soja (0,9, 1,8, 3,6 e 6,1) indicadas para iniciar as aplicações de fungicida; dois volumes de pulverização (70 e 120 L ha-1); com ou sem fungicida multissítio (mancozeb), e tratamento sem fungicidas. A deposição de calda sobre as plantas não diferiu entre os manejos estudados para o IAF de 1,8 e 3,6. Os tratamentos incluindo fungicida multissítio em IAF de soja entre 3,6 e 6,1, em ambos os volumes, apresentaram resultados de controle superior. Os maiores rendimentos foram observados quando a aplicação de fungicida começou em 3,6 de IAF para os dois volumes. A melhor relação entre controle de doenças e produtividade ocorreu quando as aplicações começaram em 3,6 de IAF com 70 L ha-1 e fungicida multissítio.

Bacillus are non-pathogenic gram-positive bacteria capable of producing resistant spores. They have several beneficial characteristics to crop production, such as increased plant growth, resistance to abiotic/biotic stresses, nutritional improvement, and potential for bioremediation of contaminated soils. The use of microorganisms in agriculture has increased due to the reduction in the use of agrochemicals, and sustainable production. Therefore, the present study was based on bibliographical research on the current state of the art of biotechnological prospecting and obtaining commercial products of Bacillus for the agricultural sector. The search was conducted through the Google Academic platform limiting the search to the years 2015 to 2020. Papers that explained in vitro or in vivo prospecting methodologies of Bacillus with promoter or protective activity of plants and those that described microbial inoculants with this genus were selected. Different species of Bacillus can modulate plant growth producing plant hormones. Molecular biology tools such as DNA sequencing and PCR are applied to the study of genes involved in plant growth modulation by Bacillus such as AcPho, ipdC and asbA. For the elaboration of agricultural bioproducts, vegetative structures or endospores are used, under an optimal concentration of 1 x 108 CFU/mL. In the face of species diversity, many have not yet been studied and are promising to become bioproducts. This fact is enhanced by the immeasurable applicability of Bacillus. El uso de microorganismos en la agricultura ha aumentado debido a la reducción del uso de pesticidas y la producción sostenible. Por lo tanto, el presente estudio se basó en la investigación bibliográfica sobre el estado actual del arte de la prospección biotecnológica y la obtención de productos de bacilo comercial para el sector agrícola. La búsqueda se realizó a través de la plataforma Google Academic, limitando la búsqueda a los años 2015 a 2020. Se seleccionaron artículos que explicaban metodologías de prospección de bacilos in vitro o in vivo con actividad promotora o protectora de plantas y aquellos que describían inoculantes con este género. Diferentes especies de Bacillus pueden modular el crecimiento de las plantas mediante la producción de hormonas vegetales. Las herramientas de biología molecular, como la secuenciación del ADN y la PCR, se aplican al estudio de genes implicados en la modulación del crecimiento de las plantas por Bacillus, como AcPho, ipdC y asbA. Para la elaboración de bioproductos agrícolas se utilizan estructuras vegetativas o esporas finales, bajo una concentración ideal de 1 x 108 UFC/mL. Dada la diversidad de especies, muchas aún no han sido estudiadas y prometen convertirse en bioproductos. Este hecho se ve reforzado por la inconmensurable aplicabilidad de Bacillus. Portanto, o presente estudo baseou-se em pesquisas bibliográficas sobre o estado atual da arte da prospecção biotecnológica e da obtenção de produtos comerciais do Bacillus para o setor agrícola. A pesquisa foi realizada através da plataforma Google Acadêmico, limitada a busca aos anos de 2015 a 2020. Foram selecionados artigos que explicavam metodologias de prospecção in vitro ou in vivo de Bacillus com atividade promotora ou protetora de plantas e aqueles que descreviam inoculantes com esse gênero. Diferentes espécies de Bacillus podem modular o crescimento das plantas produzindo hormônios vegetais. Ferramentas de biologia molecular, como sequenciamento de DNA e PCR, são aplicadas ao estudo de genes envolvidos na modulação do crescimento vegetal pelo Bacillus, como AcPho, ipdC e asbA. Para a elaboração de bioprodutos agrícolas, são utilizadas estruturas vegetativas ou endósporos, sob uma concentração ideal de 1 x 108 UFC/mL. Diante da diversidade de espécies, muitos ainda não foram estudados e prometem se tornar bioprodutos. Este fato é potencializado pela aplicabilidade imensurável do Bacillus.

A perda de alimento de frutas e hortaliças causadas por doenças pós-colheita é um grande problema no mundo. Dentro da planta, acontecem vários fenômenos referentes às atividades endófitos microbianas, começando desde a estimulação direta do crescimento da planta pela ação de fitohormônios ou pela produção de metabólitos como mecanismo de defesa no vegetal. Conhecer a comunidade microbiana auxilia no manejo de prevenção de distúrbios fisiológicos e doenças após-colheita. Mediante a revisão das literaturas, foram observados os mecanismos de biocontrole de microrganismos, a ação da maioria dos patógenos mais comuns, os gêneros de microrganismos de interesse comercial e a perspectiva de microrganismos endofíticos para o futuro na pós-colheita de frutas e hortaliças. Conclui-se que a demanda global por alimentos mais saudáveis está em auge, pelo o controle de doenças através de microrganismo endofíticos é uma realidade na pós-colheita e é um desafio para as próximas pesquisas na obtenção de maiores benefícios ecológico.

The protection of new varieties of plants is poorly explored in the literature, although it is fundamental to agribusiness. Studies about this modality of intellectual property are relevant for its better understanding. Thus, the article analyzes protection, registration for the production and commercialization and technology transfer of UFRGS oat varieties, based on a case study of the University's Oat Breeding Program. As a results, it can be verified that the oats breeding contributed to the adaptation to the Brazilian climate and soil conditions, the precocity of the planting cycle, the highest yield and the industrial quality. Regarding the protection and the varieties’ registration, it is observed that the routines are consolidated by the own Program's breeders. In the area of technology transfer, however, possibilities for action in technological prospecting, competitive intelligence and the design of commercial marketing actions for the dissemination of cultivars are identified. A proteção de novas variedades vegetais é pouco explorada pela literatura, embora seja fundamental ao agronegócio. Estudos sobre essa modalidade de propriedade intelectual são relevantes para sua melhor compreensão. Assim, o artigo analisa a proteção, o registro para a produção e comercialização e a transferência de tecnologia das cultivares de aveia da UFRGS a partir de estudo de caso do Programa de Melhoramento Genético de Aveia da Universidade. Como resultados, verifica-se que os melhoramentos da aveia contribuíram para a adaptação às condições de clima e ao solo brasileiro, a precocidade do ciclo de plantio, o maior rendimento e a qualidade industrial. Quanto à proteção e ao registro das cultivares, observa-se que as rotinas estão consolidadas pelos próprios melhoristas do Programa. Na área de transferência de tecnologia, contudo, identificam-se possibilidades de atuação em prospecção tecnológica, inteligência competitiva e delineamento de ações de marketing comercial para a divulgação das cultivares.

Background: Plants in nature can be sequentially attacked by different arthropod herbivores. Feeding by one arthropod species may induce plant-defense responses that might affect the performance of a later-arriving herbivorous species. Understanding these interactions can help in developing pest-management strategies. In tomato, the sweet-potato whitefly Bemisia tabaci and the two-spotted spider mite Tetranychus urticae are key pests that frequently cohabit on the same plant. We studied whether colonization by one species can either facilitate or impede later colonization of tomato plants by conspecific or heterospecific individuals. Results: B. tabaci females showed a strong preference for and increased oviposition on plants previously colonized by conspecifics. In contrast, plants infested with T. urticae repelled B. tabaci females and reduced their oviposition rate by 86%. Although females of T. urticae showed no preference between conspecific-infested or uninfested plants, we observed a 50% reduction in the number of eggs laid on conspecific-infested plants. Both herbivorous arthropods up-regulated the expression of genes involving the jasmonic acid and abscisic acid pathways, increasing emissions of fatty-acid derivatives, but only B. tabaci increased the expression of genes related to the salicylic acid pathway and the total amount of phenylpropanoids released. Terpenoids were the most abundant compounds in the volatile blends; many terpenoids were emitted at different rates, which might have influenced the arthropods' host selection. Conclusion: Our results indicate that B. tabaci infestation facilitated subsequent infestations by conspecifics and mites, while T. urticae infestation promoted herbivore-induced resistance. Based on both the molecular and behavioral findings, a novel sustainable pest-management strategy is discussed.

As perdas anuais causadas por doenças na cultura da soja são estimadas em cerca de 15% a 20%, por afetarem diretamente o índice de área foliar (IAF) das plantas, principal componente da produção, devido à realização da fotossíntese. A menor sensibilidade dos patógenos aos fungicidas sítio-específicos altera de maneira significativa o manejo adotado nas lavouras do país, dessa forma, o objetivo deste trabalho foi propor nova metodologia de recomendação para início das aplicações de fungicidas, baseada no índice de área foliar da cultura e um sistema de manejo mais eficiente. O trabalho foi conduzido em duas localidades dentro do munícipio de Uberlândia-MG, em delineamento de blocos casualizados com quatro repetições, em esquema fatorial triplo com adicional, 4x2x2+1, sendo quatro índices de área foliar (IAF) para início das aplicações dos fungicidas (0,9; 1,8; 3,6 e 6,1), dois volumes de calda (70 e 120 L ha-1), presença ou não de fungicida multissítio (mancozeb – 1.125 g i.a. ha-1) e um tratamento adicional correspondente à testemunha, sem aplicação. Calculou-se o IAF ao longo do desenvolvimento da cultura para início das aplicações, ao todo foram realizadas três aplicações de fungicidas para cada tratamento; seis avaliações de severidade de cada doença (ferrugem-asiática, oídio-da-soja e mancha-parda) e uma avaliação de deposição de calda nas partes inferior e superior da cultura em cada IAF estudado. Ao final do ciclo da cultura calculou-se a área abaixo da curva de progresso das doenças e a produtividade da cultura. Os resultados obtidos para deposição de calda mostraram que para os IAF de 1,8 e 3,6 não houve diferenças entre os tipos de manejos adotados para os dois terços estudados, embora a tendência tenha sido de menor deposição no terço inferior com o maior desenvolvimento da cultura. No controle de doenças, todos os tratamentos diferiram estatisticamente da testemunha nas duas áreas conduzidas, com destaque para os tratamentos com mancozeb e volume de calda de 120 L ha-1, que apresentaram melhores controles das doenças, que por sua vez requereram o IAF mais adequado, oídio-da-soja e mancha-parda (0,9); e ferrugem-asiática (3,6), para as três aplicações de fungicidas no intervalo de 14 dias. Os melhores rendimentos foram obtidos quando as aplicações foram iniciadas com IAF de 3,6 para os dois volumes de calda e na presença ou não de mancozeb. Pode-se concluir que para três aplicações de fungicidas, a melhor relação entre controle e rendimento deu-se com aplicações iniciadas com IAF próximo de 3,6 na presença de mancozeb para os dois volumes de calda (70 e 120 L ha-1). The annual losses caused by diseases in the soybean crop are estimated in around 15% to 20%, as they directly affect the leaf area index (LAI) of the plants, the main component of the production due to photosynthesis. The lower sensitivity of the pathogens to the site-specific fungicides significantly alters the management adopted in the country’s crops, thus, the objective of this work was to propose a new recommendation methodology for the beginning of fungicide applications, based on the leaf area index of the crop and a more efficient management system. The work was conducted in two locations within the municipality of Uberlândia-MG, in a randomized complete block with four replications, in a triple factorial scheme with additional, 4x2x2+1, beign four leaf area indexes (LAI) for the beginning of fungicide applications (0.9; 1.8; 3,8 and 6.1), two sprays volumes (70 and 120 L ha-1), presence or absence of multisite fungicide (mancozeb - 1,125 g ai ha-1) and one additional treatment corresponding to the control, without any application. The LAI was calculated during the development of the culture for the beginning of the applications, in total three fungicide applications were carried out for each treatment; six severity assessments of each disease (Asian rust, soybean powdery mildew and brown spot) and an evaluation of the deposition of spray in the lower and upper parts of the culture in each LAI studied. At the end of the crop cycle the area under the disease progress curve and crop productivity were calculated. The results obtained for the deposition of spray showed that for the LAIs of 1,8 and 3,6 there were no differences between the types of managements adopted for the two thirds studied, although the trend was of lower deposition in the lower third with the greater development of culture. In the control of diseases, all the treatments differed statistically from the control in the two areas, with emphasis on treatments with mancozeb and application volume of 120 L ha-1, which presented better controls of the diseases, which in turn required the most appropriate LAI, soybean powder and brown spot (0.9); and Asian rust (3,6), for the three applications of fungicides in the 14-day interval. The best yields were obtained when the applications were started with LAI of 3.6 for the two applications volumes and in the presence or not of mancozeb. It can be concluded that for three applications of fungicides, the best relationship between control and yield was obtained with applications starting with LAI close to 3.6 in the presence of mancozeb for the two applications volumes (70 and 120 L ha-1). Abordagens sustentáveis vêm sendo exploradas utilizando o uso do microbioma da rizosfera para a proteção de plantas com intuito de reduzir os efeitos deletérios da agricultura intensiva. O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar a dinâmica da comunidade bacteriana na rizosfera de genótipos de trigo, resistentes e suscetíveis a Bipolaris sorokiniana, fungo causador de podridão das raízes em trigo, ao longo de ciclos sucessivos de cultivo para identificar grupos bacterianos associados à supressão da doença. Esta hipótese foi testada avaliando a dinâmica da comunidade de rizobactérias durante a invasão do fungo B. sorokiniana na rizosfera de genótipos de trigo em monocultivo. Inicialmente foram avaliados 14 genótipos de trigo quanto à resistência ao patógeno. Os dois genótipos que apresentaram maior resistência (Frontana e IAC 5 Maringá) ou maior suscetibilidade (Karakilcik e Guamirim) a B. sorokiniana foram selecionados para avaliar a dinâmica das comunidades bacterianas da rizosfera em condições de plantio sucessivo sob a influência deste patógeno. Para isso, foram realizados cinco ciclos de cultivo dos quatro genótipos de trigo selecionadas em microcosmos. Em todos os ensaios a severidade da doença foi avaliada quatro semanas após a inoculação do patógeno, com auxílio de uma escala diagramática variando de 0 a 3. A comunidade rizobacteriana foi avaliada por meio de sequenciamento do fragmento do gene 16S RNAr e a dinâmica do patógeno foi avaliada utilizando qPCR. Os dados foram explorados por meio de análises multivariadas e de network. De maneira geral, os resultados indicaram aumento da progressão da doença nos genótipos resistentes Frontana e Karakilcik e redução nos níveis das doenças nos genótipos susceptíveis IAC 5 e Guamirim ao longo dos ciclos de cultivo. Separação das comunidades bacterianas durante os ciclos de cultivo para todos os genótipos, bem como entre os genótipos resistentes e suscetíveis foi observada. Ocorreu enriquecimento diferencial das unidades taxonômicas operacionais (OTUs) na rizosfera dos genótipos de trigo mais contrastantes em relação à doença com maior número de táxons exclusivos observados nas plantas suscetíveis (Guamirim), no último ciclo de cultivo. Para estes genótipos, também foram observadas alterações no padrão de co-ocorrência entre os microrganismos. Como prova de conceito, após os cinco ciclos de cultivo, os genótipos mais contrastantes em relação ao progresso da doença (Frontana e Guamirim) foram selecionados para avaliação do efeito protetor da comunidade microbiana. O genótipo com maior índice de severidade da doença (Frontana) foi cultivado no solo previamente enriquecido com a sua própria rizosfera, no solo previamente cultivado como genótipo Guamirim e no bulk soil. Foi observada a redução da severidade da doença (53%) nas plantas do genótipo Frontana (resistente) cultivadas em solo enriquecido com a rizosfera do genótipo Guamirim (suscetível), indicando uma possível indução de supressividade neste solo promovida pelo genótipo susceptível. A análise de network revelou uma mudança na estrutura da comunidade por meio dos ciclos, enriquecendo as famílias bacterianas associadas à proteção das plantas e diferentes funções metabólicas, isto é, Chitinophagacea e Rhodospirillaceae, durante a indução da supressão da doença no solo. Os dados metabolômicos mostraram que, quando a rizosfera é invadida pelo patógeno, em solos cultivados em todos os ciclos, o número e a diversidade de compostos são maiores que na ausência do patógeno. Os resultados em conjunto sugerem que o processo de defesa à doença está correlacionado com o recrutamento de grupos bacterianos específicos na rizosfera desses genótipos. Compreender a reorganização da comunidade bacteriana contra os fitopatógenos pode auxiliar em estratégias de manipulação do microbioma e na seleção de microrganismos chave para melhorar o desempenho das plantas. The microbial community of the rhizosphere performs several functions, including plant protection. Sustainable approaches have been explored using the rhizosphere microbiome to protect plants in order to reduce the deleterious effects of intensive agriculture. The objective of this work was to evaluate the dynamic bacterial community in the rhizosphere of wheat genotypes resistant and susceptible to Bipolaris sorokiniana was evaluated along successive cultivation cycles to identify bacterial groups associated with disease suppression. This hypothesis was tested by evaluating the rhizobacteria community dynamics during the invasion of B. sorokiniana fungus in the rhizosphere of monoculture wheat genotypes. Initially, 14 wheat genotypes were evaluated for pathogen resistance. The two genotypes that presented higher resistance (Frontana and IAC 5 Maringá) or greater susceptibility (Karakilcik and Guamirim) to B. sorokiniana were selected to evaluate the dynamics of rhizosphere bacterial communities under successive planting conditions under the influence of this pathogen. For this, five cultivation cycles of the four wheat genotypes selected in microcosms were performed. In all trials, disease severity was assessed four weeks after pathogen inoculation using a diagrammatic scale ranging from 0 to 3. The rhizobacterial community was evaluated by 16S rRNA fragment sequencing and pathogen dynamics was evaluated using qPCR. Data were explored through multivariate and network analysis. Overall, the results indicated increased disease progression in resistant Frontana and Karakilcik genotypes and reduced disease levels in susceptible genotypes IAC 5 and Guamirim over growing cycles. A clear separation of bacterial communities was observed during cultivation cycles for all genotypes as well as between resistant and susceptible genotypes. Differential enrichment of operational taxonomic units (OTUs) occurred in the rhizosphere of the most contrasting wheat genotypes in relation to the disease with the largest number of exclusive taxa observed in susceptible plants (Guamirim) in the last cultivation cycle. For these genotypes, changes in the pattern of co-occurrence between the microorganisms were also observed. As a proof of concept, after the five cultivation cycles, the most contrasting genotypes regarding disease progression (Frontana and Guamirim) were selected to evaluate the protective effect of the microbial community. The genotype with the highest disease severity index (Frontana) was cultivated in soil previously enriched with its own rhizosphere, in soil previously cultivated as Guamirim genotype and in bulk soil. Disease severity reduction (53%) was observed in Frontana (resistant) genotype plants cultivated in soil enriched with the Guamirim (susceptible) rhizosphere, indicating a possible induction of suppressivity in this soil. Network analysis revealed a change in community structure across cycles, enriching bacterial families associated with plant protection and different metabolic functions, ie Chitinophagacea and Rhodospirillaceae, during soil suppression induction. Metabolomic data showed that when the rhizosphere is invaded by the pathogen, in soils cultivated in all cycles, the number and diversity of compounds are higher when compared to other treatments. The results together suggest that the disease defense process is correlated with the recruitment of specific bacterial groups in the rhizosphere of these genotypes. Understanding the reorganization of the bacterial community against phytopathogens can assist in microbiome manipulation strategies and selection of key microorganisms to improve plant performance.

A wide range of potentially plant pathogenic microorganisms are naturally present in the environment. Despite relying only on the innate immune system, plants are able to resist most of the pathogens. Plants employ a multi‐layered defence system in which the first layer triggers the basal resistance (pathogen‐associated molecular pattern‐triggered immunity [PTI]). The second layer occurs when a resistance protein (R protein) that mostly encodes nucleotide‐binding leucine‐rich repeat receptors (NLRs) recognises an effector molecule secreted by an adapted pathogen, leading to effector‐triggered immunity (ETI), which triggers the hypersensitive response (HR). More recently, ETI was shown to restore and potentiate PTI signalling components, leading to a robust immune response. Multiple mechanisms of regulation are employed to guarantee proper HR activation. NLR proteins can interact between them and form a heel‐like pentamer that anchors to the plasma membrane. Furthermore, NLRs and other proteins can cooperate with NLRs to propagate the immune signalling. Downstream to the recognition of the pathogen by the plant, a rapid cellular response is initiated involving the generation of signalling events that precedes the HR. Here, we summarise the mechanisms involved in HR and highlight new advances in the knowledge of the immune system signalling. We also approach the role of HR threshold during infection by biotrophic, necrotrophic and hemibiotrophic pathogens and the impact in plant fitness and the community of pathogens found in the environment.

Pseudococcidae species, also known as mealybugs, comprises a complex of pests in various cultivated and non-cultivated plant species, among which fruit plants are most affected by both direct and indirect damage. The incidence of these pest species has been constant in productive environments, causing significant losses due to sap suction, virus transmission, and damage to fruit quality. Thus, this study aimed to know and investigate the population dynamics of natural enemies of Pseudococcidae in different fruit plants cultivated in the semiarid region of Brazil. For this, mealybugs associated with roots, stems, leaves, and fruits of vine, pear, apple, persimmon, guava, and acerola trees were collected biweekly in 14 properties in the São Francisco Valley region, from July 2016 to June 2017. These mealybugs were properly separated for the removal of their predators and the emergence of parasitoids associated with them (Pseudococcidae). Coccophagus sp., Aenasius sp., Anagyrus kamali, Anagyrus sp. 1, Anagyrus sp. 2, Anagyrus sp. 3, Anagyrus sp. 4, Coccidoxenoides perminutus, Gyranusoidea indica, Leptomastix dactylopii, Prochiloneurus sp., Aprostocetus sp., and Signiphora sp. were identified as parasitoids and Diadiplosis multifila, Cryptolaemus montrouzieri, Tenuisvalvae notata, Cycloneda sanguinea, and Hippodamia convergens were identified as predators, in addition to unidentified species of Coccinellidae and Chrysopidae. A lagarta-elasmo, Elasmopalpus lignosellus (Zeller) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) é uma das pragas responsáveis pela diminuição do potencial produtivo do milho, por formar galeria no colmo, causando o perfilhamento ou morte da planta. Apesar de ser considerada uma praga de difícil manejo, atualmente faz-se uso do controle químico, via tratamento de sementes e aplicações de inseticidas. Contudo, o uso desse método tem apresentado baixa eficiência, além de gerar problemas pelo uso incorreto como, resistência de insetos, surtos populacionais, ascensão de pragas secundárias, aumento dos custos de produção e aumento da contaminação humana e ambiental. Dessa forma, o objetivo desse estudo foi avaliar métodos alternativos de controle de E. lignosellus utilizando nematoides entomopatogênicos do gênero Steinernema spp. e Heterorhabditis spp., em laboratório e casa de vegetação. Inicialmente, foi avaliada a virulência dos isolados, Heterorhabditis amazonensis MC01, H. amazonensis JPM3, H. amazonensis GL, Steinernema carpocapsae All, Heterorhabditis sp. Nepet 11 sobre pupas e lagartas de E. lignosellus em laboratório. As médias foram comparadas pelos testes de Scott-Knott (p ≤ 0,05). Posteriormente, foram testadas as concentrações de 50, 100, 150 e 200 JI inseto-1 de H. amazonensis GL para pupas e de H. amazonensis MC01 para lagartas em delineamento inteiramente casualizado com cinco repetições. Os dados foram submetidos à análise de regressão. Em casa de vegetação as concentrações dos isolados foram novamente testadas em vasos contendo milho. Para lagartas foram testadas as concentrações de 190, 210, 230 e 250 JI lagarta-1 de H. amazonensis MC01 seguindo o delineamento inteiramente casualizado com cinco repetições. Para pupas foram testadas as concentrações 3380, 3500, 3620, 3740 JI vaso-1 de H. amazonensis GL seguindo o mesmo delineamento com quatro repetições. Por fim foi testada a compatibilidade de produtos fitossanitários usados no tratamento de sementes de milho com os nematoides H. amazonensis MC01 e H. amazonensis GL. O teste de seleção de isolados para lagartas demostrou que após 72 horas os nematoides H. amazonensis MC01 e S. carpocapse All foram igualmente virulentos diferindo dos demais reduzindo a população de lagartas em mais de 90%. Já o isolado H. amazonensis GL se destacou dos demais causando uma mortalidade de 94% de pupas após 48 h. A concentração de H. amazonensis MC01 que causou maior mortalidade de lagartas em laboratório foi de aproximadamente 190 JI lagarta-1, e a concentração de H. amazonensis GL foi de 157 JI pupa-1. Em casa de vegetação as concentrações de H. amazonensis MC01 testadas não diferiram entre si. No ensaio com pupas a concentração que causou a maior mortalidade foi de 3500 JI vaso-1. Despite being considered a difficult-to-manage pest, it is currently used chemical control, via seed treatment and insecticide applications. However, the use of this method has presented low efficiency, besides generating problems due to incorrect use, insect resistance, population outbreaks, rise of secondary pests, increased production costs and increased human and environmental contamination. Initially, the virulence of the isolates, Heterorhabditis amazonensis MC01, H. amazonensis JPM3, H. amazonensis GL, Steinernema carpocapsae All and Heterorhabditis sp. Nepet 11 was tested on E. lignosellus pupae and caterpillars in the laboratory. The avarages were compared by the Scott-Knott test (p ≤ 0.05). Subsequently, the concentrations of 50, 100, 150 and 200 JI insect-1 of H. amazonensis GL for pupae and of H. amazonensis MC01 for caterpillars were tested in a completely randomized design with five replicates. Data were submitted to regression analysis. In greenhouse the concentrations of the isolates were again tested in vase containing corn. For caterpillars the concentrations of 190, 210, 230 and 250 JI larve-1 of H. amazonensis MC01 were tested following the completely randomized design with five replicates. For the pupae the concentrations 3380, 3500, 3620, 3740 JI vase-1 of H. amazonensis GL were tested following the same design with four replicates. Finally, the compatibility of phytosanitary products used in the treatment of corn seeds with H. amazonensis MC01 and H. amazonensis GL nematodes was tested. The isolate selection test for caterpillars showed that after 72 hours the nematodes H. amazonensis MC01 and S. carpocapse All were equally virulent differing from the others, reducing the caterpillar population by more than 90%. The isolate H. amazonensis GL stood out from the others, causing a mortality of 94% of pupae after 48 h. The concentration of H. amazonensis MC01 that caused the highest mortality of caterpillars in the laboratory was approximately 190 JI larve-1, and the concentration of H. amazonensis GL was 157 JI pupa-1. Desde o ano de 2001, na região do agropolo de Mossoró/Assu-RN, o agrotêxtil é utilizado como proteção de plantas contra pragas da cultura do meloeiro. Este experimento teve como objetivo avaliar a produção e a qualidade de dois híbridos de melão Cantaloupe, em cultivo protegido, temporariamente, com agrotêxtil. O trabalho foi realizado na Horta da Universidade Federal Rural do Semi-Árido (UFERSA), em Mossoró-RN, de julho a outubro de 2010. O delineamento experimental foi de blocos casualizados completos, com quatro repetições, dispostos no esquema de parcelas subdivididas no espaço. As parcelas foram representadas pelo número de dias após o transplante das mudas (DAT), em que as plantas permaneceram sob proteção de agrotêxtil (0; 18; 21; 24; 27 e 30 DAT) e, as subparcelas, por dois híbridos F1 de melão Cantaloupe: 'Acclaim' e 'Caribbean Gold RZ'. Foram avaliadas características de produção e de qualidade. Os tratamentos com proteção temporária com agrotêxtil não afetaram a produtividade total dos dois híbridos; todavia, a firmeza de polpa apresentou aumento crescente, enquanto a acidez total titulável, os açúcares solúveis totais, os sólidos solúveis e o pH apresentaram redução com o aumento do tempo de permanência do agrotêxtil sobre as plantas. O 'Caribbean Gold RZ', em comparação com o 'Acclaim', apresentou maior produtividade comercial para exportação, maior massa média de frutos, mais firmeza de polpa, maior acidez total titulável, maior teor de sólidos solúveis e menor pH. Row cover has been used as protection against pests in Mossoró/Assu agriculture center in the State of Rio Grande do Norte, since 2001. The objective of this experiment was to analyze the yield and quality of two 'Cantaloupe' melon hybrids grown temporarily with row cover in a greenhouse. This study was carried out in the Garden of the Semi-Arid Rural Federal University (Universidade Federal Rural do Semi-Árido - UFERSA) in Mossoró, State of Rio Grande do Norte, from July to October 2010. The experimental design was a complete randomized block with four replications arranged in a split plot in space design. The plots were the number of days after transplant (DAT) when plants remained under row cover protection (0; 18; 21; 24, 27 and 30 DAT) and the sub plots were two F1 "Cantaloupe" melonhybrids, "Acclaim" and "Caribbean Gold RZ". Yield and quality characteristics were evaluated. The treatments with temporary row cover protection did not affect the total yield of the two hybrids; however, pulp firmness continuously increased whereas total titratable acidity, total soluble sugar, total soluble solids and pH reduced as permanence time of row cover on the plants increased. "Caribbean Gold RZ" yield presented higher commercial productivity for export, higher average fruit weight, higher pulp firmness, higher total titratable acidity and higher content of soluble solids and lower pH than "Acclaim" melons.

The present study investigated the effect of carbon and nitrogen limitation on foliar lesions caused by the secretoma of phytopathogenic fungi. Three species of Colletotrichum and their nit mutants were cultured with 10g / L carbon supplementation (dextrose, sucrose, starch and sorbitol) and 1g / L nitrogen (ammonium molybdate, ammonium chloride, potassium nitrate, L-asparagine and extract of yeast). The aim was to identify which sources and combinations cause physiological stress. The diameter of the colonies, spore production, fresh mass, dry matter and its variation, pH variation and leaf protein and lesion production were measured. It was possible to observe that sucrose and inorganic sources of nitrogen caused nutritional stress in fungal isolates, especially the association of sorbitol and potassium nitrate, which best simulates the nutritional stress encountered in the initial stages of infection. The host Sl exhibited a larger and more diverse reaction to the secretoma. In the nit mutants it was observed that sorbitol and yeast extract provided the lowest physiological stresses and the greatest diversity of leaf lesions in Sl. Therefore nutritional stress contributes to the potential harmful and non-specific host, in the Colletotrichum species used in this study, as well as to its nit mutants. However, nutritional stress also evidenced the superior performance of nit mutants in using nitrogen sources that were alternative to nitrate when compared to wild types. O presente estudo investigou o efeito da limitação de carbono e nitrogênio nas lesões foliares causadas pelo secretoma de fungos fitopatogênicos. Três espécies de Colletotrichum e seus mutantes nit foram cultivadas com suplementação de carbono 10g/L (dextrose, sacarose, amido e sorbitol) e de nitrogênio 1g/L (molibdato de amônio, cloreto de amônio, nitrato de potássio, L-asparagina e extrato de levedura). O objetivo foi identificar quais fontes e combinações causam estresse fisiológico. Foram mensurados o diâmetro das colônias, a produção de esporos, a massa fresca, seca e sua variação, a variação de pH e a produção de proteínas e lesões foliares. Foi possível observar que sacarose e fontes inorgânicas de nitrogênio causaram estresse nutricional nos isolados fúngicos, sobretudo a associação sorbitol e nitrato de potássio que melhor simula o estresse nutricional enfrentado nas fases iniciais de infecção. O hospedeiro Sl exibiu maior e mais diversa reação ao secretoma. Nos mutantes nit observou-se que sorbitol e extrato de levedura proporcionaram os menores estresses fisiológicos e a maior diversidade de lesões foliares em Sl. Portanto o estresse nutricional contribui para o potencial lesivo e para a inespecificidade ao hospedeiro, nas espécies de Colletotrichum utilizadas nesse estudo, assim como para os seus mutantes nit. Contudo o estresse nutricional também evidenciou o desempenho superior dos mutantes nit em utilizar fontes de nitrogênio alternativas ao nitrato, quando comparados aos Tipos selvagens.

Viruses in the Family Geminiviridae have circular single-stranded DNA genome that is encapsidated into twinned quasi-icosahedral particles and are divided into four genera (Becurtovirus, Begomovirus, Curtovirus, Eragrovirus, Mastrevirus, Topocuvirus e Turncurtovirus) based on the type of insect vector, genome organization, host range and phylogenetic relationship. Begomovirus are transmitted by whiteflies within the Bemisia tabaci cryptic species complex and cause great losses in economically important crops worldwide. Besides being able to infect crop plants begomoviruses also infect weed/wild plants which serve as viral reservoir. Aiming to evaluate the genetic variability and population structure of begomoviruses infecting the non-cultivated host Cnidoscolus urens (L.) Arthur, leaf samples showing indicative symptoms of begomoviral infection were collected in different locations within Alagoas State in the years 2015 and 2016. Total DNA was extracted from each sample and used as template for rolling circle amplification (RCA) followed by cloning and sequencing. Pairwise sequence comparisons analysis of DNA-A showed that all isolates belong to a single species: Cnidoscolus mosaic leaf deformation virus (CnMLDV). Phylogenetic and population structure analyses showed that CnMLDV isolates are separated in two subpopulations (North and South) which have high nucleotide variability values. Recombination and network evolution analyses showed strong evidence of recombination events occurring between CnMLDV isolates. Finally, strong negative selection pressure acting upon CP and Rep genes of CnMLDV was detected. Taken together these results show that the high genetic variability observed in CnMLDV isolates is directly related to frequent recombination events occurring along the virus genome and that strong purifying selection acts in a way to maintain the viral proteins amino acid sequences. Furthermore, mutation was determined as one of the main factors acting in the diversification of CnMLDV isolates. Vírus da família Geminiviridae possuem genoma de DNA circular de fita simples encapsidado em partículas geminadas quasi-icosaédricas, sendo divididos em sete gêneros (Becurtovirus, Begomovirus, Curtovirus, Eragrovirus, Mastrevirus, Topocuvirus e Turncurtovirus) com base no tipo de inseto vetor, gama de hospedeiros, organização genômica e relacionamento filogenético. Begomovirus são transmitidos pelo complexo de espécies crípticas de mosca-branca Bemisia tabaci, e causam grandes prejuízos em culturas de importância econômica em todo o mundo. Além de plantas cultivadas, begomovírus infectam hospedeiras daninhas/silvestres que podem servir como reservatório viral. Com o objetivo de avaliar a variabilidade e estrutura genética de populações de begomovírus infectando a planta não-cultivada Cnidoscolus urens (L.) Arthur (cansanção), amostras foliares apresentando sintomas indicativos de infecção por begomovírus foram coletadas em diferentes localidades do Estado de Alagoas em 2015 e 2016. O DNA total foi extraído a partir de cada amostra e utilizado como molde para amplificação por círculo rolante (RCA), seguida de clonagem e sequenciamento. Análise de comparações pareadas de sequências nucleotídicas do DNA-A mostrou que todos os isolados pertencem a uma única espécie: Cnidoscolus mosaic leaf deformation virus (CnMLDV). Análises filogenética e de estruturação de populações mostraram a divisão dos isolados de CnMLDV em duas subpopulações (Norte e Sul), as quais apresentam altos valores de variabilidade nucleotídica. Análises de recombinação e de evolução em rede mostraram fortes evidências de eventos de recombinação ocorrendo entre isolados de CnMLDV. Finalmente, foi detectada forte pressão de seleção negativa atuando sobre os genes CP e Rep de CnMLDV. Juntos, esses resultados mostram que a alta variabilidade genética observada para os isolados CnMLDV está diretamente relacionada a eventos frequentes de recombinação ocorrendo ao longo do genoma, e que seleção purificadora atua de forma a manter a sequência de aminoácidos das proteínas virais. Além disso, mutação foi determinada como um dos principais fatores atuando na diverisificação dos isolados de CnMLDV.

O presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar o efeito do fungo Trichoderma e do produto Compost Aid® in vitro e na sobrevivência dos fungos Macrophomina phaseolina e Sclerotium rolfsii no solo. Os tratamentos foram: Tricobiol® a base de T. harzianum, Triconemate® a base de T. longibrachiatum da Biofungi Controle Biológico®, Trichoderma viride (TR2); T. harzianum (T25); T. koningii (T15); T. polysporum (Sn11) e Compost Aid®. A avaliação do antagonismo foi determinada pela nota atribuída à porcentagem de crescimento dos isolados de Trichoderma spp. em relação aos fungos fitopatogênicos, bem como a porcentagem de inibição do crescimento dos patógenos em relação ao produto Compost Aid®. A sobrevivência de estruturas de resistência dos fungos fitopatogênicos foi avaliada aos 40 dias após a aplicação dos tratamentos, através do plaqueamento em meios de cultura sem- seletivo e BDA. No experimento in vitro, em todos os tratamentos com Trichoderma, a porcentagem de inibição foi superior a 50%, para ambos os fungos fitopatogênicos. Os produtos comerciais Tricobiol® e Triconemate® propiciaram as maiores porcentagens de inibição do fungo S. rolfsii (62,5%). O produto Compost Aid® inibiu 100% e 98,57% do crescimento dos fungos M. phaseolina e S. rolfsii, respectivamente. Os tratamentos na forma mix de Trichoderma e Tricobiol® tiveram a mediana de 100%, enquanto o Triconemate® obteve 96% de inibição do crescimento de microesclerócios de M. phaseolina recuperados do solo, porém, não inibiram a germinação dos esclerócios de S. rolfsii. O produto Compost Aid® propiciou a mediana de 100 e 0% do crescimento das estruturas de resistência dos fungos M. phaseolina e S. rolfsii, respectivamente.

The objective of this work was to address the classical biological control of pests in Brazil, regarding procedures to import and export native biological material. A brief introduction will be given on the current legal issues on the use of biocontrol agents, as well as some considerations on the existing quarantine pests and actions already carried out in the country. The safety in the introduction of exotic organisms is important for Brazilian phytosanitary defense and for a higher adoption of classical biocontrol, making it available for integrated pest management (IPM). Legal and normative aspects establish the procedures that must to be adopted, not only to protect bioprospecting and native organisms, but also to minimize risks to the national genetic patrimony associated with the introduction of exotic organisms. Furthermore, the import/export procedures adopted for vegetal and useful organisms for pest biological control and for other genetic material must be subjected to phytosanitary measures performed in government-certified quarantine facilities and diagnostic laboratories. Finally, the quarantine activities listed here are strategic for safeguarding the country from potential problems arising from border transit of living organisms. Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi abordar o controle biológico clássico de pragas no Brasil, quanto aos procedimentos para importação e exportação de material biológico nativo. Será dada uma breve introdução sobre os aspectos legais do uso dos agentes biológicos, bem como feitas algumas considerações sobre as pragas quarentenárias existentes e as ações já realizadas no País. A segurança na introdução de organismos exóticos é importante para a defesa fitossanitária brasileira e para uma maior adoção do controle biológico clássico, tornando-o disponível para o manejo integrado de pragas (MIP). Aspectos legais e normativos estabelecem os procedimentos a serem adotados, não somente para proteger a bioprospecção e os organismos nativos, como, também, para minimizar os riscos ao patrimônio genético nacional associados à introdução de organismos exóticos. Além disso, os procedimentos para importação/exportação de organismos vegetais e úteis para o controle biológico de pragas e de outros materiais genéticos devem estar sujeitos a medidas fitossanitárias realizadas em estações quarentenárias e laboratórios de diagnósticos certificados. Por fim, as atividades de quarentena listadas aqui são estratégicas para o País, para o salvaguardarem de problemas potenciais advindos do trânsito fronteiriço de organismos vivos.

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior The production expansion areas of soybean monoculture system result in increased fertilizers and pesticides application, and the intensification of some phytosanitary problems such as the damage caused by plant-parasitic nematodes. The arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) increase plant growth and reduce the problems caused by nematodes in soybean. The objective of this work was to study the effect of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi Rhizophagus clarus in the growth of soybean plants and the nematode Pratylenchus brachyurus suppression. Two trials were conducted in a greenhouse. In the first experiment evaluated the growth of soybeans in the presence and absence of the mycorrhizal fungus R. clarus. In the second trial was carry out the damage caused by the P. brachyurus in soybean grown in the presence and absence of R. clarus. In soybean flowering period evaluated the height, stem diameter, the dry matter of root and shoot, nodulation, the relative chlorophyll index, the nutrient content of the plant tissue, the number of the nematode in soil and penetrated to the root system, the reproduction factor of the nematode, the number of fungal spores in the soil and mycorrhizal colonization of roots. The results showed that mycorrhiza increased the growth, nodulation and nutrient uptake of soybean plants grown in soil with or without nematode. The mycorrhizal colonization reduced the penetration of the nematode in soybean roots, despite the greater number of nematodes in the soil. The presence of the nematode influenced mycorrhizal colonization of soybean plants. The use of sustainable management practices that favor the populations of AMF in the soil, can be a strategy for increasing and/or maintaining crop yields and reducing the affect caused by the P. brachyurus. A expansão das áreas de produção e o sistema de monocultivo da soja resultam no aumento da aplicação de fertilizantes e agrotóxicos, e na intensificação de alguns problemas fitossanitários, como os danos causados pelos fitonematoides. Os fungos micorrízicos arbusculares podem contribuir para aumentar o crescimento das plantas e reduzir os problemas causados pelos nematoides na cultura da soja. O objetivo do presente trabalho foi estudar o efeito do fungo micorrízico arbuscular Rhizophagus clarus no crescimento das plantas de soja e na supressão do nematoide Pratylenchus brachyurus. Dois ensaios foram conduzidos em casa de vegetação. No primeiro ensaio foi avaliado o crescimento da soja na presença e na ausência do fungo micorrízico R. clarus. No segundo ensaio foi avaliado os danos causados pelo nematoide P. brachyurus na cultura da soja cultivada na presença e na ausência do R. clarus. No período de florescimento da soja avaliou-se a altura, o diâmetro de colmo, a fitomassa da parte aérea e radicular, a nodulação, o índice relativo de clorofila, o teor de nutrientes do tecido vegetal, o número de P. brachyurus no solo e penetrados no sistema radicular, o fator de reprodução dos nematoides, o número de esporos fúngicos no solo e a colonização micorrízica das raízes. Os resultados demonstraram que a micorrização aumentou o crescimento, a nodulação e a absorção de nutrientes das plantas de soja, cultivadas em solo com ou sem o nematoide. A colonização micorrízica reduziu a penetração do P. brachyurus nas raízes da soja, apesar do maior número de nematoides no solo. A presença do nematoide influenciou a colonização micorrízica das plantas de soja. A adoção de práticas de manejo sustentáveis que favoreçam as populações de FMAs no solo, pode ser uma estratégia para o aumento e/ou manutenção da produtividade das lavouras e redução dos danos causado pelo P. brachyurus.

Genetic use restriction technologies (GURTs) were developed to preserve the intellectual property of genetically modified crops (GM) and ensure the return of investments made by industry to obtain technology delivered through seeds. The aims of this review are to discuss the GURTs and analyze their possible applications in integrated management of agricultural pests. There are two classes of GURTs: T-GURTs (trait-based GURTs), wherein the generated seed are viable, but the next generation does not express the trait of agronomic interest, and V-GURT (variety-based GURTs), in which plants produce non viable seeds. However, beyond the seed protection purpose, the GURTs could have also other application to solve agronomic problems. One of the most important is the use of GURTs as a tool to restrict gene flow of GM traits to relative weeds. In addition, it is proposed the use of this technology in integrated weed management by preventing the GMs seed germination, which produces volunteer plants that compete with the crop of interest. Also, these volunteer plants may serve as alternative hosts for insects and pathogens in between crop seasons. The GURTs could contribute to the control of undesirable agents in agricultural systems, reducing the use of pesticides and increasing crop yields. RESUMO: As tecnologias genéticas de restrição de uso (GURTs) foram idealizadas a fim de preservar a propriedade intelectual de culturas geneticamente modificadas (GMs) e garantir o retorno dos investimentos feitos pelas empresas para a obtenção de tecnologias transmitidas via sementes. Os objetivos dessa revisão são discutir as GURTs e analisar suas possíveis aplicações no manejo integrado de pragas agrícolas. Existem duas classes de GURTs: a T-GURT (trait-based GURT), na qual as sementes produzidas são viáveis, porém as plantas da geração seguinte não expressam o caractere de interesse agronômico, e a V-GURT (variety-based GURT), na qual as plantas produzem sementes inviáveis. Contudo, além do propósito da proteção das sementes, o uso de GURTs poderia também ter outras aplicações na resolução de problemas agronômicos. Um dos mais importantes é o uso das GURTs como ferramenta para impedir o fluxo de genes de culturas transgênicas para plantas daninhas coespecificas. Além disso, propõe-se o uso dessa tecnologia no manejo integrado de plantas daninhas, por meio da prevenção da germinação de sementes GMs, que geram plantas voluntárias que competem com a cultura de interesse. Além disso, essas plantas voluntárias podem servir como hospedeiros alternativos para insetos e patógenos nos períodos de entressafra. Dessa forma, as GURTs poderiam contribuir no controle de agentes indesejáveis em sistemas agrícolas, reduzindo a utilização de agrotóxicos e aumentando a produtividade dos cultivos.

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior Although selective, some herbicides cause injury in plants, resulting in uncontrolled production of reactive oxygen species. Nitric oxide (NO) is appointed as a reducer of the effects caused by oxidative stress in plants; however, their mitigation mechanisms are not yet clear. This study aimed to evaluate the nitric oxide protection mechanisms, provided by sodium nitroprusside (SNP), in the flooded rice cultivar Puitá INTA CL exposed to clomazone herbicide (360 g a.i. L-1), oxyfluorfen (240 g a.i. L-1), oxadiazon (250 g a.i. L-1) and the formulated mixture of paraquat (200 g a.i. L-1) + diuron (100 g a.i. L-1) in vitro and in vivo. For this purpose, (i) leaf segments were pre-incubated with 0, 200 and 2000 μM of SNP and exposed to five herbicides concentrations, and the protective effect confirmed by the NO scavenger, carboxyPTIO, (ii) seeds were soaked by one and 10 hours in solution containing 200 μM of SNP and after sowing, clomazone (1.7 and 3.4 L ha-1 of c.p.) was applied in the post-seeding and the needle stage (iii) plants were treated with 200 and 2000 μM of SNP and sprayed with 1.0 L ha-1 of herbicides oxadiazon, oxyfluorfen + diuron and paraquat. The concentration of 200 μM of SNP has reduced, up to 14% the electrolyte leakage in rice leaf segments exposed to 755.9 μM of oxadiazon, as well as, the imbibition of seeds with 200 μM of SNP for 10 hours increased by 33.1% the total content of chlorophyll, maintaining the pigmentation of seedlings exposed to 3.4 L h-1 of clomazone, applied to the needle stage. When sprayed on the shoot, paraquat + diuron, oxyfluorfen and oxadiazon, respectively, caused the ions leakage of 89.8; 62.8 and 18.3%, while the pre-treatment of the plants with 2000 μM of SNP decreased by 11 and 25.4% the damage caused by the first two, however, there was not reduction in injury caused by oxadiazon. The pre-treatment with SNP minimized the oxidative stress caused by herbicides, by the reducing in the hydrogen peroxide levels and TBARS and by the increase in the pigments levels, reflecting on the lower activity of the enzymes SOD and POD, however, such changes are dependent on the SNP concentration, exposure time and the level of stress caused by herbicides. In the absence or low levels of stress, NO was toxic to plants. Embora seletivos, alguns herbicidas causam injúrias nas plantas, resultando na produção descontrolada de espécies reativas de oxigênio. O óxido nítrico (NO) é apontado como um redutor dos efeitos causados pelo estresse oxidativo em plantas, entretanto, seus mecanismos de mitigação ainda não são claros. Este trabalho teve por objetivos avaliar os mecanismos de proteção do óxido nítrico, fornecido através de nitroprussiato de sódio (SNP), em plantas de arroz da cultivar Puita INTA CL, expostas aos herbicidas clomazone (360 g i.a. L-1), oxyfluorfen (240 g i.a. L-1), oxadiazon (250 g i.a. L-1) e à mistura formulada de paraquat (200 g i.a. L-1) + diuron (100 g i.a. L-1), in vitro e in vivo. Para tal, (I) segmentos foliares foram pré-incubados com 0, 200 e 2000 μM de SNP e expostos a cinco concentrações dos herbicidas, sendo o efeito protetor confirmado pelo seqüestrador de NO, carboxyPTIO, (II) sementes foram embebidas, por uma e 10 horas, em solução contendo 200 μM de SNP e após a semeadura, clomazone (1,7 e 3,4 L p.c. ha-1) foi aplicado em pós-semeadura e no ponto de agulha, (III) plantas foram tratadas com 200 e 2000 μM de SNP e pulverizadas com 1,0 L ha-1 dos herbicidas oxadiazon, oxyfluorfen e paraquat + diuron. A concentração de 200 μM de SNP reduziu, em até 14%, o extravasamento de eletrólitos em segmentos foliares de arroz expostos a 755,9 μM de oxadiazon, bem como, a embebição das sementes em 200 μM de SNP por 10 horas aumentou em 33,1% o teor de clorofila total, mantendo a pigmentação das plântulas expostas a 3,4 L ha-1 de clomazone, aplicado no ponto de agulha. Quando pulverizados na parte aérea das plantas, paraquat + diuron, oxyfluorfen e oxadiazon, respectivamente, causaram o extravasamento de 89,8; 62,8 e 18,3%, dos íons celulares, enquanto que as plantas pré-tratadas com 2000 μM de SNP apresentaram redução de 11 e 25,4% no dano causado pelos dois primeiros, contudo, sem redução na injúria causada por oxadiazon. O pré-tratamento com SNP minimizou o estresse oxidativo causado pelos herbicidas, através da redução dos níveis de peróxido de hidrogênio e Tbars e do aumento nos níveis de pigmentos, refletindo na menor atividade das enzimas SOD e POD, entretanto, tais alterações foram dependentes da concentração de SNP, tempo de exposição e do nível de estresse causado pelos herbicidas. Na ausência ou em baixos níveis de estresse, o NO mostrou-se tóxico às plantas.

O nematoide das lesões radiculares (Pratylenchus brachyurus) é um dos principais fitoparasitas da sojicultura brasileira. Até o momento, não há uma alternativa limpa e de baixo custo de controle que reduza satisfatoriamente a população desse nematoide nas áreas infestadas ou que proporcione pleno desenvolvimento das plantas parasitadas. Porém, estudos recentes mostram que há a possibilidade de induzir as defesas das plantas como estratégia a ser inserida nos programas de manejo das culturas a fitopatógenos, como os nematoides. Diante do exposto, o objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a resposta bioquímica e o desenvolvimento de cultivares de soja quando submetidas ao parasitismo pelo nematoide Pratylenchus brachyurus e tratadas com o indutor de resistência abiótico acibenzolar-S- metil. A soja foi semeada em saquinhos de polietileno e, após sete dias, os tratamentos foram inoculados com o nematoide. O experimento foi conduzido em delineamento inteiramente casualizado em esquema fatorial 5x4, com oito repetições. Os tratamentos foram compostos pela combinação das cinco cultivares de soja com: Testemunha (plantas não inoculadas com o P. brachyurus e não pulverizadas com o ASM), Pb (plantas inoculadas com P. brachyurus), ASM (plantas pulverizadas com o indutor de resistência) e Pb+ASM (plantas inoculadas com o nematoide e pulverizadas com o ASM). Os tratamentos que receberam ASM tiveram três aplicações (14, 21 e 28 dias após a inoculação do nematoide), sendo a atividade enzimática avaliada 24 horas após a aplicação do produto. Aos 60 DAI foi avaliado a altura, a massa fresca da parte aérea (MFPA) e das raízes (MFR), fator de reprodução (FR) e densidade do P. brachyurus nas raízes. Observou-se maior concentração de proteínas totais após a terceira aplicação do ASM, com maior atividade da quitinase (QUI) e β-1,3-glucanase (GLU) nas duas primeiras aplicações, da peroxidase (POX) na segunda aplicação e da lipoxigenase (LOX) e fenilalanina amônia-liase (FAL) após a terceira aplicação. Os resultados apresentam um possível efeito sinérgico entre as atividades da QUI e GLU e antagonista entre a POX e a FAL durante essas épocas. O ASM contribuiu para o incremento da atividade da POX, LOX e da FAL na ausência ou presença do nematoide e as atividades da QUI e da GLU foram maiores nas plantas parasitadas pelo P. brachyurus. Não houve diferença estatística para altura entre os tratamentos. No entanto, houve diferença entre as cultivares. A BRSGO 8560 RR, Emgopa 313 RR e M-Soy 8360 RR apresentaram as maiores alturas. As plantas apresentaram maior MFPA e MFR nos tratamentos contendo o nematoide. Nas plantas tratadas com o ASM a densidade de nematoides foi maior, enquanto que, o FR foi menor. Sendo assim, os resultados mostram que o indutor e o nematoide interferem no desenvolvimento da planta e a atividade enzimática é influenciada pelo número de aplicações do ASM e pela presença do P. brachyurus. O indutor de resistência mostra potencial para a redução da reprodução deste fitopatógeno. The root lesion nematode (Pratylenchus brachyurus) is one of the main soybean parasite in Brazil. Until now, there is no clean and low cost alternative to successfully reduce its population in contaminated fields. However, recent studies has shown the possibility of inducing the defense mechanisms in plants as a strategy for the management. The objective of this study was to evaluate the biochemical response and the development of soybean cultivars when subjected to parasitism by the nematode Pratylenchus brachyurus and treat with abiotic resistance inducer acibenzolar-S- methyl (ASM). Soybean was sown in polyethylene bags, and seven days after, the treatments were inoculated with the nematode. The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design in a 5x4 factorial scheme, with eight replications. The treatments consisted of combinations of five soybean cultivars with: Control (plants not inoculated with the nematode and not sprayed with ASM), Pb (plants inoculated with the nematode), ASM (plants sprayed with the plant activator) and Pb + ASM (plants inoculated with the nematode and sprayed with ASM). The treatments with ASM were sprayed at 14, 21 and 28 days after the nematode inoculation (DAI) and, 24 hours later, the plant height and the enzymatic activity were evaluated. At 60 DAI it was evaluated the plant height, the shoots fresh weight (SFW), the roots fresh weigh (RFW), the reproduction factor (Rf) and the nematode density in the roots. There was higher total protein concentration after the third ASM application, with higher activity of chitinase (CHI) and β-1,3- glucanase (GLU) in the first two applications, higher peroxidase (POX) in the second and lipoxygenase (LOX) and phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL) after the third. The results showed a possible synergistic effect between the activities of CHI and GLU and antagonistic effect between the POX and the FAL during the evaluation timings. ASM increased the activity of POX, LOX and FAL in the absence or presence of the nematode. Activities of CHI and GLU were higher in plants parasitized by the P. brachyurus. During the three evaluation periods the greatest heights were recorded at 28 DAI with lower height in plants with nematode. There was no statistical difference in height between treatments. However, there were differences between cultivars. The cultivars BRSGO 8560 RR, Emgopa 313 RR e M-Soy 8360 RR showed greater heights. The plants had higher SFW and RFW in treatments containing the nematode. In plants treated with ASM the nematode density was higher, while the Rf was lower. Thus, the results showed that the plant activator ASM and the nematode P. brachyurus affect the plant development and that the enzymatic activity is influenced by the number of ASM sprays and by the presence of nematode. This work aimed to control the root-knot nematode Meloidogyne incognita in tomato Solanum lycopersicum L plants with high-diluted solutions of Thuya occidentalis, and to study its effects on growth and plant defense responses. The in vivo experiment was carried out over two years (2013 and 2014) at a climatized greenhouse, whilst the in vitro experiment was carried out in the laboratory. Eight treatments were used (6, 12, 24, 50, 100, 200 and 400CH (Hahnemannian centesimal) of T. occidentalis, with water as control treatment). For the in vivo assay, in 2013 plants were inoculated with about 4850 eggs and second-stage juveniles (J2), while in 2014 they were inoculated with 5050 eggs and J2. The treatments were applied once a week, as 0.1% aqueous solutions onto the plant shoots, for 50 and 40 days respectively. For the in vitro experiment, the nematodes were directly exposed to the same 0.1% treatments. The treatments did not show nematostatic or nematicide effects in the in vitro assay, and had no influence on the hatching of the eggs. For the in vivo assay in 2013, T. occidentalis 100CH decreased the number of J2 present in the roots, whilst the dynamization of 200CH stimulated root development and increased the weight of the fruits of the first cluster. In 2014, 100CH decreased numbers of J2 in the soil. Some dynamization increased the plant’s defense enzyme activity, such as peroxidase (24, 50, 200 and 400CH), polyphenoloxidase (200CH), and phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (24 and 50CH). In this study, T. occidentalis 100CH showed potential for the control of M. incognita, whilst 24 and 200CH influenced the growth of plants. O objetivo desse trabalho foi controlar o nematoide de galhas Meloidogyne incognita em tomateiro com soluções ultradiluídas de Thuya occidentalis e estudar seus efeitos no crescimento da planta e nas respostas de defesa vegetal. O experimento in vivo foi realizado em dois anos, 2013 e 2014, e desenvolvido em casa de vegetação climatizada, enquanto o in vitro foi realizado em laboratório. Utilizaram-se oito tratamentos (6, 12, 24, 50, 100, 200 e 400CH (centesimal hahnemaniana) de T. occidentalis e água como controle). Para o ensaio in vivo, em 2013 foram inoculados aproximadamente 4850 ovos e juvenis de segundo estágio (J2) enquanto em 2014 foram inoculados 5050 ovos e J2. Os tratamentos foram diluídos para 0,1% com água destilada e foram aplicados uma vez por semana na parte aérea das plantas por 50 e 40 dias respectivamente aos anos de condução. No experimento in vitro, os nematoides ficaram expostos diretamente aos tratamentos também na concentração de 0,1%. Os tratamentos não mostraram efeito nematostático e nematicida no ensaio in vitro, assim como não influenciaram na eclosão de juvenis. Para os ensaios in vivo em 2013, T. occidentalis na dinamização de 100CH reduziu a população de J2 nas raízes, e a dinamização de 200CH incrementou o crescimento da planta, aumentando o volume de raiz e massa fresca de frutos do primeiro cacho. Em 2014, o tratamento 100CH diminuiu o número de J2 no solo. Algumas dinamizações aumentaram a atividade de enzimas de defesa vegetal, como peroxidase (24, 50, 200 e 400CH), polifenoloxidase (200CH) e fenilalanina amônia-liase (24 e 50CH). Nesse estudo, T. occidentalis 100CH apresentou potencial para controle de M. incognita, bem como 24 e 200CH influenciam no crescimento das plantas.

Foram testadas tres dosagens de tres produtos (carbofurano, imidacloprida e tiametoxam) baseadas na dosagem maxima recomendada para o controle de cigarras em cafeeiros e aplicadas em area total. A dosagem de um quilograma de produto comercial a base de tiametoxam por hectare foi a mais eficiente economica e ambientalmente para controle de ninfas de Q. gigas em plantios de parica.

This study aimed to determine the more efficient and economically viable dosage of chemical insecticide to control Quesada gigas (Hemiptera: Cicadidae) nymphs in parica plantations. Three dosages of three products (carbofuran, imidacloprid and thiamethoxam) were tested based on the maximum recommended dosage for the control of cicadas in coffee plants and applied in total area. The dosage of one kilogram of a commercial product based in thiamethoxam per hectare was more efficient economically and environmentally to control nymphs of Q. gigas in parica plantations. The constitutive characters of plants can be structural or biochemical and play an important role in their defense against pathogens. We found that Citrus flower buds smaller than 8 mm long have constitutive structural and biochemical barriers to Colletotrichum spp. infection. In addition, this is the first time that osmophores are reported in Citrus sinensis. Our study shows that natural terpenes of Citrus flowers present a potential use for chemical control of Colletotrichum spp., The constitutive characters of plants can be structural or biochemical and play an important role in their defence against pathogens. Citrus postbloom fruit drop (PFD) caused by Colletotrichum spp. is one of the most important fungal diseases of citrus. The pathogen infects the flowers, leading to premature fruit drop and reducing citrus production. However, flower buds smaller than 8 mm long are usually not infected by Colletotrichum spp. Thus, this study investigated whether there are constitutive mechanisms in flower buds related to Colletotrichum spp. infection. We studied flower buds that were 2, 3, 4, 8, 12 and 15 mm long and petals, after anthesis, of sweet orange ‘Valência’ using light and scanning electron microscopy and histochemistry. We evaluated the effect of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in flowers (R-limonene and linalool) on the in vitro growth of Colletotrichum acutatum. We found that the arrangement of the epidermal papillae in the petal primordia, the occurrence of prismatic crystals and the distribution of oil glands are the main differences between buds smaller than 8 mm and buds 8–15 mm long. Osmophores at the tips of petals produced and accumulated phenols, terpenes and lipophilic compounds. Flower buds smaller than 8 mm long have constitutive structural and biochemical barriers to Colletotrichum spp. infection. In addition, this is the first time that osmophores have been reported in citrus. Our study shows that natural terpenes of Citrus flowers inhibit the fungal growth in vitro, highlighting the potential use of terpenes for the chemical control of PFD in citrus.

A cobertura de plantas com o material "não tecido" de polipropileno constitui uma das técnicas mais recentes utilizada para proteção de cultivos hortícolas. Dentro deste tema, foram conduzidos quatro experimentos na área experimental do "Centro de Investigación y Desarrollo Agrario", em Córdoba, Espanha. Avaliou-se a amplitude das modificações das temperaturas do ar e do solo, da radiação fotossinteticamente ativa e o conseqüente efeito sobre a produção de couve-chinesa, beterraba, espinafre e alface cultivados sob proteção do "não tecido" de polipropileno (PP) e em ambiente natural (AN), durante a primavera, outono e inverno de 1995/1996. Utilizou-se delineamento experimental de blocos ao acaso com quatro repetições. As temperaturas do ar e do solo sob PP foram maiores que em AN na fase inicial de crescimento das espécies estudadas, com diferenças de até 5,5 e 2,2ºC para temperaturas do ar e do solo, respectivamente. Entretanto, com o crescimento das culturas, os valores de temperatura do tratamento PP tenderam a se igualar ao tratamento AN, tanto para temperatura do ar como do solo. Para couve chinesa e espinafre, a temperatura do ar sob PP foi até 3,1ºC menor que a observada em condições naturais depois da metade e final do ciclo, respectivamente. Para couve-chinesa, beterraba e espinafre cultivados sob PP, as modificações do microclima favoreceram a maior precocidade e produção quando comparadas às plantas cultivadas em AN. Entretanto, para a cultura da alface o aumento das temperaturas do ar e solo sob PP em relação a AN não resultou em aumento da produção final. Neste caso, os baixos níveis de radiação incidente sob o "não tecido" e o prolongado período de precipitação ocorrido durante os meses de inverno interferiram negativamente sobre o crescimento da espécie, sendo recomendado a retirada da proteção de plantas nesta condição climática.Plants cover with a nonwoven polypropylene protection comprises one of the most recent techniques for protecting horticultural crops. Four experiments have been conducted at the experimental area of the "Centro de Investigación y Desarrollo Agrario" in Córdoba, Spain. The aim of this study was to evaluated the air and soil temperature amplitudes and the photosynthetically active radiation and its effects on the production of chinese cabbage, table beet, spinach and lettuce grown under nonwoven polypropylene protection (PP) and also at environment conditions (AN) during the spring, autumn and winter of 1995/1996. The experiments were carried out in a randomized blocks design with four replications. Air and soil temperatures under PP were higher than those ones at AN conditions during initial growth period for all studied species, with differences up to 5.5 and 2.2ºC for air and soil temperature, respectively. However, with crops growth, temperature values under PP trended to be similar to AN for both air and soil. For chinese cabbage and spinach, air temperature under PP was lower than AN after middle and final cycle, respectively. For chinese cabbage and spinach, air temperature under PP was up to 3.1ºC lower than the observed at AN condition after middle and final stage of the cycle, respectively. For chinese cabbage, table beet and spinach grown under PP, such microclimatic modifications have promoted a higher precocity and production compared to AN conditions. However, for lettuce crop the higher temperature under PP did not result in a higher final production. In this case, low incidence radiation levels under PP and also a prolonged precipitation period during the winter months interfered negatively with crops growth, where PP protection should be removed in this climatic conditions.

The genus Euphorbia comprises about 2000 species ranging from annuals to trees, including C3, C4, and CAM species. Euphorbia species widely studied in agriculture includes E. antiquorum, E. carollata, E. dentata, E. dracunculoides, E. esula, E. geniculata, E. granulata, E. helioscopia, E. heterophylla, E. hierosolymitana, E. hirta, E. maculata, E. microphylla, E. nerifolia, E. piluifera, E. pulcherrima, E. royleana, E. supine, and E. thiamifolia. These species have been reported mainly in field crops/vegetables, orchards, pastures, and rangelands. Euphorbia plants may present allelopathic effect over desirable cereals, pulses, oilseeds, vegetables, forage plants, and nitrifying bacteria, posing a serious threat to livestock production on open range lands through the release of allelochemicals from roots, stems, leaves, and inflorescence in the rhizosphere. Leaves are reported to be more toxic than other plant parts. Competition of Euphorbia spp. against crop plants is the most important crop yield-limiting factor. The critical period for Euphorbia competition with crops is reported to take place between 17 to 70 days after emergence for most crops, depending on root development during the initial crop growth stage, crop height, tillering or branching capacity, whether weeds emerge at the same time as the crop or later after crop emergence; how quickly crop canopy develops and also on Euphorbia species. A yield reduction of 4-85% has been reported in field crops with different Euphorbia species and distinct occurrence densities. Euphorbia species decrease herbage production by 10 to 100% in pasture and rangelands, with many acting as natural insecticide, fungicide, nematidicide, immunopotentiator, or immunosuppressor. O gênero Euphorbia compreende cerca de 2.000 espécies, que variam de plantas anuais a árvores, incluindo C3, C4 e espécies CAM. As espécies de Euphorbia amplamente estudadas na agricultura incluem E. antiquorum, E. carollata, E. dentata, E. dracunculoides, E. esula, E. geniculata, E. granulata, E. helioscopia, E. heterophylla, E. hierosolymitana, E. hirta, E. maculata, E. microphylla, E. nerifolia, E. piluifera, E. pulcherrima, E. royleana, E. supina e E. thiamifolia. Essas espécies têm sido relatadas principalmente em culturas de campo, legumes/pomares, pastagens e pastagens. Plantas de Euphorbia podem apresentar efeito alelopático sobre cereais, leguminosas desejáveis , oleaginosas, vegetais, plantas forrageiras e bactérias nitrificantes, o que representa uma séria ameaça para a produção de gado em terras abertas, através da liberação de aleloquímicos de raízes, caules, folhas e inflorescências na rizosfera. As folhas são mais tóxicas do que outras partes da planta. A competição de Euphorbia spp. com plantas de cultivo é o mais importante de todos os fatores que limitam a produtividade das culturas. O período crítico da competição de Euphorbia com as colheitas é relatado como sendo entre 17 e 70 dias após a emergência para a maioria das culturas, dependendo do desenvolvimento de raízes durante o estádio inicial de crescimento da cultura, da altura da cultura, do afilhamento ou ramificação de capacidade, se as plantas daninhas surgem ao mesmo tempo com a cultura, ou mais tarde, após a emergência da cultura, da rapidez com que o dossel da cultura se desenvolve e também das espécies desse gênero. Uma redução no rendimento de 4-85% tem sido relatada em colheitas de campo com diferentes espécies de Euphorbia e densidades distintas de ocorrência. Essas espécies diminuem a produção de forragem de 10 a 100% em pasto e pastagens. Muitas delas atuam como inseticida natural, fungicida, nematidicide, imunopotenciador ou imunossupressores.

Objetivou-se, com este trabalho, avaliar o efeito do silício sobre a população de E. flavens e sobre a produtividade do amendoinzeiro. Avaliaram-se, semanalmente, 10 folíolos abertos ou semi-abertos no terço superior das plantas do cultivar IAC 886, por parcela. Os tratamentos foram constituídos por: uma aplicação foliar de silício realizada aos 20 dias após a emergência, duas aplicações foliares de silício realizadas aos 20 e 55 dias, e o controle. Uma aplicação de silício proporcionou proteção às plantas de amendoim, reduzindo o número de adultos e ninfas do tripes de E. flavens e aumentou a produtividade da cultura em 31,30% de amendoim em casca e 28,85% em grãos. The silvering thrips, Enneothrips flavens Moulton, 1941 is considered the major pest on peanuts in Brazil, due to its widespread occurrence, high population levels, and high damage to the crop. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of silicon on E. flavens populations and on peanuts yield. Ten fully-opened or semi-opened leaflets per plant were sampled weekly from the peanut cultivar IAC 886. The following treatments were tested: leaf spraying of silicon at 20 days after plant emergence, two leaf spraying of silicon at 20 and 55 days, and the control check. A single silicon spraying provided protection to peanut by reducing the number of E. flavens adults and nymphs and by increasing the yield of peanut pods by 31.30% and peanut grains by 28.85%. Sistemas de previsão e cultivares resistentes à requeima são importantes ferramentas para reduzir a quantidade de fungicidas utilizados e os custos de produção da batata. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a utilização do sistema de previsão Blitecast e de clones suscetíveis e resistentes no manejo da requeima da cultura da batata na região produtora de Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul (RS). Os experimentos foram conduzidos na Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, na primavera de 2006 e no outono de 2007, sendo os dados meteorológicos medidos continuamente acima do dossel das plantas. Foram utilizados 10 tratamentos arranjados no delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com quatro repetições. Os tratamentos foram diferenciados pelos valores de severidade acumulados, calculados pelo sistema Blitecast, e pelos clones SMIJ461-1 e SMINIA793101-3, caracterizados como resistentes à requeima, e Macaca (suscetível). Verificou-se que o sistema Blitecast não foi eficiente para prever o momento de aplicação de fungicida no controle da requeima. Portanto, este deve sofrer ajustes para ser utilizado em clones suscetíveis. Nos clones considerados resistentes, a aplicação de fungicidas com base na utilização do sistema Blitecast não tem efeito sobre a severidade da requeima e a produtividade da cultura da batata. Forecasting systems and late blight resistant cultivars are important tools to reduce the amount of fungicides and the production cost of a potato farm. The objective of this study was to evaluate the Blitecast forecasting system for late blight occurrence and susceptible and resistant potato clones for managing late blight in Santa Maria, RS, Brazil. Experiments were conducted at the Federal University of Santa Maria during the Spring 2006 and Autumn 2007. Meteorological data were measured continuously above the crop canopy. Ten treatments were used in a completely randomized design, with four replications. Treatments were different values of accumulated severity, calculated by the Blitecast forecasting system and by the potato clones SMIJ461-1 and SMINIA793101-3, characterized as resistant, and the clone Macaca as susceptible to late blight. The Blitecast forecasting system was not effective for predicting the time of fungicide spraying for the control of late blight and, therefore, to be used in susceptible clones it has to be adjusted. For resistant clones, the fungicide spraying based on the Blitecast system has no effect on late blight occurrence and potato productivity.

A velocidade da tecnologia e do consumo tem esgotado os recursos ambientais, o que torna o agroecossistema frágil e insustentável. A existencia de árvores em pastagens, e os sistemas silvipastoris, podem ser alternativas viáveis na recuperação de áreas degradadas. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar produtos naturais e implantar espécies arbóreas em pastagens com presença constante de bovinos, sem proteção de mudas, em dois experimentos na Embrapa Gado de Corte, Campo Grande, MS. Os delineamentos foram inteiramente ao acaso com parcelas subdivididas; os tratamentos, e as subparcelas; as espécies arbóreas, com dez repetições. No primeiro experimento, os tratamentos foram: 1)1) fezes bovinas ao redor da muda; 2) ovo; 3) sangue bovino seco; e 4) testemunha sem proteção e as espécies arbóreas: Myroxylon peruiferum (Bálsamo), Dipteryx alata (Cumbaru), Schizolobium parahyba (Guapuruvu), Genipa americana (Jenipapo) e Mimosa caesalpineaefolia (Sansão do campo). No segundo, utilizaram-se duas alturas médias de Mimosa caesalpineaefolia (99 cm e 33 cm) e Schizolobium parahyba (31 cm), sem proteção ou com um dos produtos: biofertilizantes, fezes liquidas, calda sulfocálcica, tanino e ácido pirolenhoso, aspergidos, no minimo a cada 15 dias, sobre as plantas. Foram avaliados os danos provocados às mudas, por meio do: 1) pisoteio, 2) deslocamento, 3) mordiscamento, 4) queima, 5) ataque de pragas, 6) diminuição do vigor, 7) perda da gema apical e 8) sobrevivencia. Os dados obtidos foram analisados pelo teste de Kruskal-Wallis com comparação das medianas pelo método de Dunn a 5%. A herbivoria foi intensa, no entanto, S. parahyba obteve maior taxa de permanencia no campo, em ambos os experimentos. Não se observou diferença significativa entre as duas alturas das mudas avaliadas. Os produtos testados não foram eficientes na proteção das mudas, no entanto, a aplicação de fezes ao redor da muda ou na forma liquida, assim como biofertilizante evidenciaram potencial para maiores estudos. The speed of the technology and the high levels of consumption have been depleting environmental resources and affecting the fragile and the unsustainable agrosystens. The existence of trees in pastures, and in silvopastoral systems, can be an alternative for recovering degraded areas. This study was developed in order to evaluate the effect of natural products and the effects of introducing tree species in pastures with constant presence of bovines, without the protection of tree seedlings. The experiments were carried out at Embrapa Gado de Corte, Campo Grande, State of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. A split-plot random design delineation with ten replications was used. In the first experiment the treatments were: 1) cattle manure around of tree seedlings; 2) egg; 3) dry bovine blood and 4) unprotected. There were five tree species subplots: Myroxylon peruiferum, Dipteryx alata, Schizolobium parahyba, Genipa americana and Mimosa caesalpineaefolia. In the second experiment, natural products were applied to the plots and two different heights of trees were introduced into the split-plots. Two heights were tested for Mimosa caesalpiniaefolia (99 cm and 33 cm) and for Schizolobium parahyba only 31 cm. The trees had no physical barrier to protect them from the cattle. The treatments were: 1) biofertilizer; 2) cattle manure in liquid form; 3) lime sulfur; 4) tannin; and 5) pyroligneous extract, sprayed over the seedlings at least twice a month without any leaf protection. The following impacts on tree seedlings were evaluated: 1) trampling; 2) dislocation; 3) herbivory; 4) burning; 5) occurrence of insects; 6) decreased seedling vigor, 7) loss of apical meristem; and 8) rate of survival. Data of tree seedlings were obtained and analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test and separation of medians by the method of Dunn 5%. Herbivory was intense, however, the S. parahyba remained longer in the field, in both experiments. The differences in the heights of the tree seedling did not contribute to the survival rate of either specie in the same field. The products tested were not efficient in the protection of tree seedlings, however, application of cattle manure around the tree seedlings or in liquid form, or used as a biofertilizer, shown potential for more detailed studies.

Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico Este trabalho teve como objetivos: avaliar o desempenho operacional de bicos de pulverização hidráulicos de jato plano e de jato cônico vazio, submetidos a diferentes pressões do líquido e alturas da barra porta-bicos; avaliar a deposição e a deriva de calda fungicida pulverizada no feijoeiro com bicos de jato plano e de jato cônico vazio, em dois volumes de aplicação; e avaliar o controle de doenças do feijoeiro com o fungicida chlorothalonil aplicado com bicos de pulverização de jato plano e de jato cônico vazio, em duas doses e dois volumes de calda. Em laboratório, foram analisados o espectro de gotas, por meio de um analisador de gotas por difração de raio laser, e a uniformidade de distribuição volumétrica de bicos de jato plano standard e de jato cônico vazio submetidos a diferentes pressões. Em campo, foram instalados dois experimentos, um com o cultivar de feijão Pérola e outro com o Ouro Negro. Foi empregado o fungicida de contato chlorothalonil (0,75 ou 1,5 kg ha -1 i.a.) em dois volumes de aplicação (125 ou 250 L ha -1 ), com bicos de jato plano standard e de jato cônico vazio. Foram avaliados: severidade de doenças fúngicas, produtividade, deposição de calda em duas posições do dossel e deriva. Os resultados permitiram as seguintes conclusões: a) a uniformidade de distribuição volumétrica superficial dos bicos avaliados foi influenciada pela vazão nominal, pela pressão do líquido e pela altura da barra porta-bicos; b) os bicos de jato plano apresentaram boa uniformidade de distribuição, enquanto os bicos de jato cônico vazio apresentaram distribuição volumétrica bastante variável, principalmente em função da vazão nominal; c) os bicos de jato plano e de jato cônico vazio propiciaram cobertura semelhante da folhagem do feijoeiro, tanto na posição superior quanto na inferior do dossel; d) o volume de aplicação de 250 L ha -1 proporcionou maior retenção de calda na folhagem e maior uniformidade de cobertura das plantas que o volume de 125 L ha -1 ; e) as gotas formadas nas aplicações com bicos de jato cônico vazio estão mais sujeitas à deriva que as produzidas com bicos de jato plano, especialmente quando se emprega baixo volume de aplicação; f) não houve influência do tipo de bico de pulverização (jato plano e jato cônico vazio) e do volume de calda (125 e 250 L ha -1 ), empregados na aplicação do fungicida chlorothalonil, no controle da antracnose, da mancha-angular e da mancha-de-alternária e na produtividade do feijoeiro; e g) o chlorothalonil propiciou bom controle das doenças. The objectives of this study were: to evaluate the operational performance of hydraulic spray nozzles (standard flat fan and hollow cone), under different working pressures and positions in relation to the objective; to evaluate the deposition and the drift of fungicide sprayed at the common beans with flat fan and hollow cone nozzles, within two application volumes; and to evaluate the bean diseases control with the fungicide chlorothalonil applied with flat fan and hollow cone spray nozzles, in two doses and two application volumes. In laboratory, droplet spectrum, using a real time laser particle size analyzer, and the volume distribution uniformity of standard flat fan and hollow cone spray nozzles, under different pressures, were analyzed. In field, two experiments were installed: one with the Pérola bean and the other with the Ouro Negro bean. The fungicide chlorothalonil was used (0.75 or 1.5 kg ha -1 ) in two application volumes (125 or 250 L ha -1 ), with standard flat fan and hollow cone spray nozzles. The following parameters were evaluated: diseases severity, bean yield, deposition of fungicide within two positions of the crop and drift. The results allowed the following conclusions: a) the volumetric distribution uniformity of the evaluated nozzles was influenced by the nominal flow, by the liquid pressure, and by the working height; b) the flat fan nozzles presented a good distribution uniformity, while the hollow cone nozzles presented a variable volumetric distribution, mainly due to the nominal flow; c) the flat fan and hollow cone nozzles provided similar cover of the bean leaves, both in the superior and the inferior position of the crop; d) the application volume of 250 L ha -1 provided larger retention of fungicide in the leaves and bigger uniformity of coverage of the plants than the volume of 125 L ha -1 ; e) the droplets formed in the application with hollow cone nozzles were more favorable to the drift than the ones produced with flat fan nozzles, specially when low application volume was used; f) there has not been influence of the type of nozzle (flat fan and hollow cone) neither of the application volume (125 and 250 L ha -1 ), used in the application of the fungicide chlorothalonil, in the control of anthracnose, angular leaf spot and alternaria leaf spot and in the bean yield; and g) chlorothalonil has provided a good control of the diseases.
