The available studies on contingency planning in projects lack an effective method for accurately estimating time contingencies because they (1) do not account for historically unprecedented disruptions, (2) produce estimation errors for low-probability and high-impact events and (3) do not consider the disproportionate impact of disruptive events on project resources. With this in mind, this research posits that the notion of resilience is central to contingency planning because understanding disruptions is directly interconnected with modelling and measuring resilience to disruptions. As a result, a method for estimating time contingency is presented in which resilience is used to describe the disruption and recovery profiles of project activities. The proposed method is applied in a real-life construction project to demonstrate its capability. In addition, a case study from the literature is selected to compare the proposed method with a critical chain project management solution. The results show that an accurate forecast of time contingency requires precise information about the specific impact of a disruptive event on project resources across various stages of disruptions. From a practical standpoint, the proposed method assists project managers and key stakeholders in the delay analysis of disrupted projects, as well as in developing cost-effective resource management plans. Artificial intelligence (AI) is considered a mechanism that can improve supply chain resilience. Organisations around the world are investing in implementing AI systems to improve their supply chain and become more resilient to pandemics and disruption. At the same time, practitioners are not fully aware of the factors that impact the implementation of these systems. Alongside this, the extant literature lacks a comprehensive study that evaluates the enablers impacting the implementation of AI in production systems. This research fills this gap by identifying, defining, and evaluating the critical enablers influencing the adoption and implementation of AI in production systems. We extracted twelve enablers, created a conceptual model, and categorised the enablers based on the Technology, Organization, and Environment (TOE) framework. After categorisation, we used the analytical hierarchy process to assess the importance of the enablers presented in the model using data collected from eight experts. The results revealed that technology, as a category, is more crucial than organisation or environment. The findings also indicated that project management is the most critical of all twelve enablers. The European Universities Initiative (EUI) was established in 2017. Its aim is to strengthen strategic partnerships between higher education institutions across the EU by building networks of universities. At the end of 2023, there were already 50 European University Alliances gathering 430 higher education (HE) institutions. In each of these Alliances, academic libraries are members, too. These libraries are already involved in intra-alliance projects, and these alliances will probably happen more often due to the EU's project-driven approach. This practice paper is, to the authors' knowledge, the first attempt to describe another challenge that European academic libraries currently face i.e., project management practice. The alliance partner universities operate under distinct national laws and institutional practices, making it challenging to easily align them for effective cross-university collaborations. Familiarity with the theoretical principles of EU project management and project management methodology greatly facilitates the preparation of the proposal and the work of the project. It also allows more effective management of the project as a whole or its individual parts. This paper maps the challenges that work in international projects brings and provides suggestions on how EUI libraries can utilize project management techniques, while also aiming at showing the paths to facilitate cooperation. Drawing from an analysis of the literature on project management that might apply in library-led projects to strengthen communities of purpose, the paper is based on the example of the work experience on the project TRAIN4EU, that was co-led by the academic librarians from the University of Warsaw Library, Poland, and run by 4EU + universities. Organizations dominate our lives, yet how well do we really understand them, and their differences? To get past the one-size-fits-all notion of organization design, this article presents four forms of organizations—the personal enterprise, the programmed machine, the professional assembly, and the project pioneer—each with its own way of managing and crafting strategy. Many organizations come remarkably close to one of these forms, while others can be understood as hybrids of them. This study investigates the relationship between students' self-efficacy beliefs, goal-setting, and learning tactics in an online business course. Using sequence analysis and process mining techniques, we analyzed log data from 209 students to identify distinct learning tactics and their association with self-efficacy beliefs, inferred from initial goal-setting and final grades. Four learning tactics were identified, with significant differences observed between students with high and low self-efficacy beliefs. High self-efficacy students demonstrated more varied and adaptive tactics, including greater use of quizzes and project-focused activities. In contrast, low self-efficacy students and those who didn't set goals showed less engagement and fewer monitoring activities. The project-focused tactic had the strongest correlation with final grades and goal achievement. Goal-setting at the course's start was linked to more effective learning behaviors and better outcomes. The study reveals how students' online learning behavior changes based on initial goal-setting and subsequent reflection. These findings contribute to research on self-regulated learning in online environments and offer practical implications for designing online courses and learning analytics interventions. Understanding these differences enables the development of targeted interventions to improve learning tactics and self-efficacy beliefs among students, ultimately enhancing their ability to achieve learning goals in online educational settings. Introduction: This study explores the impact of Building Information Modelling (BIM) staff on construction project performance, with a focus on the roles of the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) and Task-Technology Fit (TTF). The research aims to understand how BIM personnel attributes influence project outcomes and how these effects are mediated by TTF and moderated by UTAUT. Methods: Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) was employed to analyze the data, allowing for the examination of complex interactions between BIM staff attributes, project characteristics, and outcomes. This method is particularly suited for handling smaller sample sizes and non-normal data distributions. Results: The analysis revealed that BIM staff attributes--such as team size, expertise, training, and experience--significantly influence construction project performance. Key performance areas affected include design efficiency, error reduction, and adherence to schedules and budgets. TTF emerged as a critical mediator, enhancing performance metrics like stakeholder satisfaction and cost management. UTAUT further moderated the relationship between BIM staff, TTF, and project performance, highlighting the importance of technology acceptance and use within BIM contexts. Discussion: The findings emphasize the need for organizations to strategically allocate BIM staff and invest in their professional development to optimize project outcomes. Recommendations include fostering supportive organizational structures and promoting a culture of collaboration and innovation to enhance project resilience and performance, particularly in the face of disruptive events. Future research should expand to diverse project types and scales, investigate emerging technologies, and consider cultural factors through cross-cultural studies. AbstractRapid urbanization, poverty and socio-economic inequalities are causes of the backlog of informal settlements in South Africa, as dwellers cannot access formal housing schemes. Such unplanned settlements often need more basic services, social facilities and adequate housing. Nevertheless, informal settlements are core parts of the urban form rather than places for eradication. This article examines self-building and community-led upgrading practices in three case studies of partially and non-serviced informal settlements in Durban. It adopts action research participatory methods to coproduce knowledge and map various perspectives around community-led housing upgrading, building materials and construction skills in an effort to enhance community resilience and self-reliance. The findings reveal the key drivers and challenges associated with self-building, informal procurement and overall project management of the housing process. Successful grassroots practices demonstrate community ownership and dweller control beyond the physical upgrading per se. The lessons learned call for inclusive, participatory, and incremental approaches for effective community organization, self-reliance, social capital and livelihood development. Teachers have used projects in children's education for over a century. More recently, project management knowledge and skills have become essential when students manage technological solutions from inception to presentation. This paper presents the first scoping literature review on teaching project management to primary school students. A total of 33 publications between 2000 and 2022 were analysed and presented both descriptively and thematically. While the review did not identify any empirical studies of teaching project management to primary school students, it did reveal several examples of suggested teaching approaches, project management activity, and common elements associated with project management. The review concludes with a recommendation for researchers, educators, and project management practitioners to build upon this research by exploring the effectiveness of comprehensive approaches to teaching project management to primary school students. Supporting the ongoing development of educational researchers can be more challenging than supporting the development of other researchers because they work across the university in different disciplines and centres. This small-scale qualitative study explored the motivation and engagement of educational researchers at a UK university, the support that helped them and their perceived strengths in research skills. Future development hopes and needs were also expressed. The aim was to better understand ourselves (self-identifying educational researchers), individually and collectively, to help us to build an educational research community for future collaborative research projects. Participants demonstrated altruistic motivations as well as those linked to personal fulfilment and professional need. Specific hopes reported included the desire to work with collaborative research groups. The findings can aid educational researchers and their employers to better recognise educational researchers at an institutional level; to understand the needs of this disparate group; to build a sustainable community and to support the design of development opportunities locally, university-wide and externally, through personalised provision and peer support and mentoring. The paper presents the model resilience measurement based on the complex network theory and analyzes the resilience of project portfolio network considering risk propagation. The model can be used to evaluate the resilience and improve its success probability of projects in the portfolio network. Firstly, the research analyzes the dynamic changes of the portfolio network derived from the construction of the project portfolio matrix, as well as the main factors to be taken into consideration in measuring the resilience of the project portfolio. Further, the research measures the resilience of the project portfolio network according to the node attributes (project) and the relationship attributes (the relationship that one project will impact another in the portfolio network) respectively. Then, to integrate the resilience of the projects and influence relationship between projects, the research proposes the dynamic PageRank algorithm to analyze the resilience of the project portfolio based on the analysis of traditional PageRank algorithm. In addition, resilience is not only affected by the projects and its influence relationship between them, but is also affected by risk propagation. Therefore, the research presents a model for analyzing the portfolio network resilience considering multiple risk propagation. Finally, a research and development project portfolio are taken as an example to demonstrate the effectiveness of the method presented in this research. Our approach can be used by managers to identify the scores of project resilience capacity in portfolio network. Our method explicitly allows to uncover the most resilient projects considering the resilience of project (node) and their influence relationship (network structure), and the risk propagation. Utilizing the outcomes of this research can enhance the capacity of the whole project portfolio to manage risks and improve the success probability of the whole project portfolio by enhancing network resilience. Background: Balanggarra, Dambimangari, Wilinggin and Wunambal Gaambera Traditional Owners in Western Australia operate Savanna Fire Management projects under the collective North Kimberley Fire Abatement Project. Aims: We examine changes to the fire regime before and after the initiation of these projects and discuss implications for incentivising savanna fire management. Methods: Using established methods and high-resolution imagery, we compared fire metrics between baseline (2001–2011) and project years (2012–2022). Key results: Fire seasonality notably shifted from late to early dry season dominance with fewer late season fires across, resulting in carbon abatement. While total area burnt remained similar, annual fire pattern transitioned from a cyclical to less variable regime. Fire patchiness, fire age diversity, and area of long unburnt vegetation increased while fire frequency decreased. A minimum of 4 years of fire management was required before significant changes in fire metrics were observed. Conclusions: The fire regime on Traditional Owner lands has improved significantly, enabled by the emergence of land and sea management, carbon markets, support of partner agencies, and the securing of land rights. Implications: Beyond carbon credits, access to technology holds promise for sustained improvements to adaptive fire management built on strong foundations of traditional burning practices. Our study used satellite imagery to examine wildfire patterns before and after the North Kimberley Fire Abatement Project, an indigenous fire project, was established in northern Western Australia. The goal of this research was creation and validation of a methodology for the development of production systems of suppliers of the automotive industry. The theoretical starting points analyze the available literary sources and point to the insufficient treatment of the issue by a comprehensive industry standard representing a gap in the current state of knowledge. The practical part of the research is divided into two stages. The subject of the first stage is the standardization of the methodology through a structured scientific procedure in intensive cooperation with a panel of experts. The subject of the second stage is testing the methodology on authentic projects of the application sector using case studies. The results of the testing showed that in all projects managed using the proposed methodology there was an increase in performance compared to projects managed in a traditional way. The successful confrontation of the proposed solution with reality (practice) is underlined by the confrontation with the current state of knowledge (theory). The practical benefits of the research are the possibility of implementing the methodology into the pedagogical process at training workplaces and, above all, its application into engineering practice to develop new production systems of suppliers of the automotive industry. In the real world, one of the most common problems in project management is the unpredictability of resources and timelines. An efficient way to resolve uncertainty problems and overcome such obstacles is through an extended fuzzy approach, often known as neutrosophic logic. Our rigorous proposed model has led to the creation of an advanced technique for computing the triangular single-valued neutrosophic number. This innovative approach evaluates the inherent uncertainty in project durations of the planning phase, which enhances the potential significance of the decision-making process in the project. Our proposed method, for the first time in the neutrosophic set literature, not only solves existing problems but also introduces a new set of problems not yet explored in previous research. A comparative study using Python programming was conducted to examine the effectiveness of responsive and adaptive planning, as well as their differences from other existing models such as the classical critical path problem and the fuzzy critical path problem. The study highlights the use of neutrosophic logic in handling complex projects by illustrating an innovative dynamic programming framework that is robust and flexible, according to the derived results, and sets the stage for future discussions on its scalability and application across different industries. Building a professional identity as school leader is essential to the success of any management project. The Spanish context makes it twice as important to know its managers’ perception of their role and practice as school principals. This article aims to: (a) identify principals’ profiles based on both the transition from teaching to management and their expectations of permanence in the post; (b) establish relationships between these profiles and relevant aspects concerning the process of building a professional identity as school principals; and (c) to determine whether gender is related in any way to the principals’ profiles and the rest of the aspects investigated. The information was obtained with an ad hoc questionnaire from which 779 valid records were obtained, corresponding to principals of schools in all Spanish regions. Cluster analysis established three principal profiles: committed, resilient, and transient. Subsequent analyses compared the three groups according to the stated objectives. The results and conclusions of the study lead to implications about the need for institutional support for school principals during their transition from teaching and allow us to specify aspects and modalities on which such support should be focused. In this study, we evaluate predictive modelling techniques within project management, employing diverse architectures such as the LSTM, CNN, CNN-LSTM, GRU, MLP, and RNN models. The primary focus is on assessing the precision and consistency of predictions for crucial project parameters, including completion time, required personnel, and estimated costs. Our analysis utilises a comprehensive dataset that encapsulates the complexities inherent in real-world projects, providing a robust basis for evaluating model performance. The findings, presented through detailed tables and comparative charts, underscore the collective success of the models. The LSTM model stands out for its exceptional performance in consistently predicting completion time, personnel requirements, and estimated costs. Quantitative evaluation metrics, including Mean Absolute Error (MAE), Mean Squared Error (MSE), and Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE), corroborate the efficacy of the models. This study offers insights into the success observed, reflecting the potential for further refinement and continuous exploration to enhance the accuracy of predictive models in the ever-evolving landscape of project management. Drawing from social learning theory, this study aims to explore the mediating effects of team learning orientation and team agility on the relationship between servant leadership and project success in the context of construction projects. Based on data collected from 306 construction project members in China, the findings reveal that servant leadership exerts a positive influence on project success. Additionally, servant leadership significantly enhances both team learning orientation and team agility, which in turn contribute to project success. Furthermore, the results demonstrate the serial and parallel mediating roles of team learning orientation and team agility between servant leadership and project success. Firms in the construction industry are under increasing pressure from regulatory bodies, clients, and the public to integrate sustainability into their business strategies. However, they encounter numerous barriers that hinder the implementation of environmental sustainability practices in construction project management. This study aimed to examine these barriers within the context of the United Arab Emirates' (UAE's) construction industry. To achieve this, the research employed a mixed-method approach. Initially, interviews were conducted to identify the prevalent barriers, resulting in the identification of twelve key barriers. Subsequently, a structured questionnaire was distributed to project managers from 90 firms, both ISO 14001-certified and non-certified, to rank these barriers and assess their significance. The findings revealed that "economic benefits placed above meeting environmental sustainability requirements" was the most critical barrier. Through factor analysis, three latent factors were extracted: (1) organizational and policy barriers, (2) compliance and resource efficiency barriers, and (3) sustainable design implementation barriers. Notably, significant differences were observed between ISO 14001-certified and non-certified firms, particularly regarding the importance of "economic benefits placed above meeting environmental sustainability requirements" and "insufficient consultation with stakeholders". This study highlights the critical barriers to implementing environmental sustainability practices in the UAE's construction industry and provides actionable suggestions for policymakers and decision-makers to overcome these challenges, with implications for similar environments worldwide. The aim of this study is to analyze the effect of an illustrator's visual style in representing nature. The focus is on the author's own artistic project in which the personal relationship with nature is reflected. As for theory, the style used in the representation is seen as a combination of semiotic resources. In this case, the style is inspired by historical images: old still life paintings and illustrations from natural encyclopedias and field guides. The stylistic influences work as a connotative semiotic resource. From a wider perspective, how we represent nature creates social discourses of nature and our attitudes toward it. The political and economic situation in Ukraine leads to the fact that companies today are stuck with the deterioration of their financial condition and need effective mechanisms for further development even in the conditions of martial law. The ability to plan the project management process, formulate value guidelines for project management and implement the necessary management tools can help to form an optimal approach for the company to valueoriented project management at oil and gas production enterprises. To optimize the project management process, it is necessary to detail and improve the process of planning the implementation of these projects. Implementation of such detailing is possible under the condition of applying modeling of business processes at the enterprise. Therefore, the object of this research is approaches to value-oriented project management at oil and gas production enterprises. The paper uses general scientific methods of analysis, synthesis, systematization, generalization, and also used the method of modeling business processes to determine a clear sequence of actions in the process of implementing projects at oil and gas production enterprises. According to the results of the research, it was established that for optimal value-oriented project management at oil and gas production enterprises, a certain business process should be followed, which provides for a clear sequence of actions and the possibility of controlling the result at each stage of the project. In general, according to the author’s business process, value-oriented project management at oil and gas production enterprises involves the following stages: – formation of a clear sequence of actions aimed at the implementation of the project (establishment of value indicators of the project); – identification of responsible persons and allocation of resources for the implementation of each stage of the project; – general implementation of the project (this stage involves detailing individual tasks); – control of efficiency and achievement of value indicators of the project. Adherence to such a sequence of actions will improve the efficiency of project management and ensure the coordination of project performance indicators with the general value orientations of the enterprise. This paper identifies the essential support functions of project management offices (PMO) for various organisational project management maturity (OPMM) levels. A case study of a South African petrochemical company compares a PMO within the company with a small projects department that is not supported by a PMO. OPMM development drivers and essential PMO support functions are identified for both structures. It is proposed that the requirements of essential PMO support functions depend on the OPMM level, but are also affected by business needs. A notion exists that organisations with higher levels of project management maturity execute projects more effectively and efficiently and so have a higher probability of achieving project success. This paper reports on a single case study that measured the project management maturity of four project management knowledge areas, and also investigated the impact of project management maturity on perceived project success in a mining operation. The study found that project management maturity plays a pivotal role in achieving project management deliverables. Megaprojects serve as the foundation of societal progress, providing essential infrastructure for a country's development and meeting its societal needs. There is a growing interest within the academic community to untangle the complex nature of megaprojects. This study conducts a comprehensive systematic literature review on megaprojects from the perspective of business, management, and accounting studies to provide a general map of the research conducted in this field and to highlight gaps for future research. The findings reveal thematic areas, including (i) sustainable development and decision‐making, (ii) governance approach, (iii) project management, (iv) risk assessment, and (v) economic and social effects/social responsibility. Moreover, identified gaps encompass limited consideration of the use/operation and end‐of‐life phases, inadequate evaluation of environmental and social impacts in economic terms, insufficient focus on sustainability reporting, inclusive governance, and using novel methodologies for complex system analysis in the field of megaprojects. As academic research evolves into distinct identities of specialised knowledge, institutional and paradigmatic barriers are formed between research teams, which demand enhanced research collaboration and cross-fertilisation of ideas. Drawing on the concept of cross-fertilisation, this paper adds original contributions to literature on research collaboration in three ways. First, it underlines key barriers facing academics in undertaking research. Second, it demonstrates why research collaboration helps to drive research output and enrich research cultures. Third, it offers valuable insights into technological and social initiatives supporting research collaboration. This paper reports on a study within the University of Portsmouth's School of Criminology and Criminal Justice – the UK's largest criminology department. It reveals universities must address four key issues to enhance research collaboration. These involve managing researchers' workload pressures, fostering positive research cultures, improving knowledge of and access to research and funding processes, and exploring collaborative technologies. The aim of this study is to understand how lecturers interpret pedagogical innovations when describing and thinking about their practices. In this study we analysed the project proposals of a large call for proposals in a French university and questioned the managers of funded projects about their conceptions of pedagogical innovations. Results show little theoretical guidance in designing innovations suggesting that practical objectives are the more important. Engineering education has seen a growing interest in how students regulate their learning as a group in interdisciplinary projects. This study adds to the current literature on social regulation of learning by conducting a comparative case study of three interdisciplinary group projects addressing real-world challenges. Semi-structured qualitative interviews were synthesised into narrative episodes representing key aspects of the groups' regulative behaviours. We found indications of co- and socially shared regulation across all groups, with noteworthy differences in the project phases that led to varying student experiences. We discuss key factors that affected regulation along four themes we identified: (1) goal setting and planning, (2) implementation, monitoring, and evaluation, (3) the role of supervisors, and (4) the impact of disciplines. Several universities are accelerating their tempo to navigate the rapidly changing environment towards the digital age. Previous literature has been interested in exploring the continuous trend of digital transformation, along with digital maturity models. However, there is still inconsiderable guidance for practitioners regarding the concrete frameworks and concepts for planning with the aim of accomplishing digital maturity. This study examines the reality of digital transformation maturity in Egyptian universities through the development of a digital maturity model based on the Logical Framework Approach (LFA) or goal-oriented project planning. This study has a double contribution, as follows: it provides university practitioners with a conceptual tool to analyze their challenges in the new landscape of digital transformation and provides valuable insights for researchers regarding the new emerging phenomena of digital maturity at the national level, in general, and universities, in particular. The results of the research indicate that the proposed digital maturity model includes seven dimensions, they are as follows: leadership, planning and management, quality assurance, scientific research, digital teaching and learning, community service, equipment and technological infrastructure, and technological culture. Universities can use the Developed Measurement Model for digital maturity to measure their current situation and to guide their strategies along the transition from digital transformation to digital maturity. Focused on examining the intricate interplay between megadevelopments and sustainability, this paper analyzes four (4) international cases. The study identifies strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats inherent in megadevelopments, understood as large-scale urban real estate projects with transformative effects on their surroundings, requiring comprehensive planning. Across Scandinavia, one can witness a situation where gender equality has previously been at the forefront of the political and societal agenda, but where progress now seems to be slowing down. The news media is a domain where this negative development is particularly pronounced, and several studies have established that the Scandinavian news media display a more unequal gender representation than the society they supposedly mirror. In this article, we report on an ongoing cross-Scandinavian research project on news media content, where we explore not only the traditional metrics of how many men and women are in the news, but also, more importantly, how women and men are portrayed in news media content. The study demonstrates significant gender discrepancies, echoing findings from previous studies on the quantitative representation of women and men, and, more importantly, it introduces presentation as an additional qualitative metric. Consequently, we contribute with an analytical framework involving a range of qualitative parameters through which the news media industry can comprehensively evaluate gender equality within their content.
