This paper discusses the type of professional learning that international academic mobility makes possible during a PhD program. The conceptual approach used Pierre Bourdieu's field theory, which allows analyzing PhD students as 'newcomer' members who bet on mobility under the idea of "illusio." The methodology used was qualitative. The information was obtained through semi-structured interviews with twenty-four new researchers who studied in four prestigious PhD programs in education and history in Mexico. The findings demonstrate that mobility fosters relationships with peers abroad, makes it easier to learn to do research, favors the reconversion of capital within the scientific field, and offers practical knowledge related to the need to publish results in order to achieve international recognition.

Health professions students, including occupational therapy students, often have limited exposure to unhoused populations, which may alter their attitudes and self-efficacy to participate in their care. In turn, this could reduce access and quality of care for these marginalized groups. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact of a phased multimodal learning approach on interprofessional health sciences students' attitudes and self-efficacy in providing care to unhoused individuals. A pre-posttest single group design was used to evaluate a didactic presentation, poverty simulation, and street-based experiential learning experience. Findings revealed significant differences in students' (N=257) attitudes and self-efficacy in providing care, and many students reported this as an "eye-opening experience." This learning approach evoked a strong emotional response, improved attitudes and self-efficacy, and has implications for future advocacy efforts related to caring for unhoused populations.

Interprofessional education (IPE) is critical for health professional students to form professional identities and develop collaborative skills. Although accrediting bodies mandate incorporating IPE, the effects of IPE programming on health professional students and the best pedagogical approach for achieving desirable outcomes are still unclear. In addition, specific effects of IPE within the context of experiential learning are not fully understood. That is, the literature has not presented a clear framework for structuring IPE programs, nor have outcome measures for IPE utilizing experiential learning (IPEEL) been established. The purpose of this study was to complete a grounded theory qualitative analysis of survey data from three cohorts of health professional students participating in an IPEEL elective course where students worked directly with children and their families. Pre- and post-survey responses identified how students perceived growth related to IPE competencies as a result of the IPEEL curriculum, as well as helped to develop a refined model of IPE specifically for experiential learning. Results indicated that overall students reported positive perceptions of IPE-related outcomes and positive outcomes related to the children and families they worked with, while confirming enabling and interfering factors that contribute to the IPE process. Future applications of the IPEEL model for IPE programming are recommended.

Art and design students in higher education often prioritize design skills over written communication. With the opportunity to restructure courses around increased asynchronous flexibility arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, the author of this manuscript (who is also the course instructor) has developed a hybrid-blended course design in the art history survey class for over three years. This design guides students toward developing teamwork skills that are crucial in the professional world. While offering tools for art history assignments, this exploratory research encourages humanities scholars to rethink their role in shaping the 21st-century professional. A model of course redesign, including its successes and limitations, is discussed.

Despite the legislation put in place by the United Nations, Africa continues to grapple with issues of monosexism and heterosexism. In fact, of the 54 African countries, 33 have criminalised queer relationships, a legacy primarily attributed to colonial rule. However, social work literature has recently introduced a culturally sensitive model for working with the LGBTQIA+ community, known as Queer affirmative action. By utilising available literature and adopting an intersectional approach, which was collected and analysed through PRISMA, this paper aims to discuss the Africanising of sexuality in Africa. It argues that it is crucial to undertake a critical analysis of the colonial legacy and its impact on queer identities. Furthermore, the article posits that social work education must incorporate knowledge of the intersection of gender, sexuality, and other identity markers to form an inclusive and comprehensive approach towards practice. An affirmative philosophy to social work practice can serve as a counterweight to all punitive and discriminatory practices. Thus, in Africa, the most effective way to improve the well-being of queer individuals is to eradicate structural forms of inequality and decriminalise same-sex consensual relationships.

For this study, a training module is designed as an integral component of a professional educational program to include an educational workshop situated in a university classroom, educational research work, and a reflexive activity. A didactic model consisting of five structural and functional blocks, namely, normative-target, conceptual, substantive, technological, and effective evaluative sub-modules were shared during the implementation stage. Results show that professional foreign language competence is a complex component of personal professional development as it has multidirectional components for the implementation of various speech and non-speech actions to achieve both certain personal and communicative goals.

This study examines the effect of native "vs." non-native prosody instruction on developing interpreter trainees' speech comprehensibility in English as a foreign language (EFL) using a pretest-posttest-delayed posttest design. Twenty-three groups of 28 interpreter trainees at a University in Iran (six different branches) took part in the study, all groups receiving the same amount of instruction (9 hours over 3 weeks). Three control groups listened to/viewed authentic audio recordings and movies in English, discussed their contents, and completed a variety of speaking tasks but received no specific prosody instruction. Twenty experimental groups spent part of the instruction time on theoretical explanation of, and practical exercises with, English prosody by thirteen nonnative instructors, and seven native instructors. Three experts evaluated the comprehensibility of the trainees in elicited speech samples collected during the pretest, immediate posttest and delayed posttest, and subsequently presented in random order. The findings revealed that the experimental groups gained between 1 and 2 points on the 0 to 10 comprehensibility scale, and lost little in the delayed posttest; however, hardly any changes were observed in the control groups. We conclude that native and non-native English instructors' prosody teaching were equally effective in enhancing EFL students' speech comprehensibility.

A modern specialist's ability to self-educate is a valuable professional quality. Education has been given the essential responsibility to develop the learners' readiness for self-education (RSE). However, university students experience difficulties organizing and implementing self-educational activities. The study's goal is to investigate the development of students' RSE and the impact of interactive training methods (ITMs) on ensuring the development of self-education skills in future elementary school (FES) teachers. The study used a pre- and post-test design for FES teachers' readiness for self-education (RSE). The study involved 240 learners at E. Buketov Karaganda University, Karaganda, Kazakhstan. The study found that university students experienced difficulties in organizing and implementing self-educational activities. The findings revealed that using integrative teaching methods increased students' readiness for self-education which is a significant improvement over traditional methods. This paper contributes to the methodological potential of university education by providing an innovative approach to improve university students' self-education preparation.

This article explores key aspects of my professional doctorate (DProf) that focused on the construction of my professional identity as an occupational safety and health professional, using autoethnographic inquiry. It promotes the use of the portfolio as part of the assessment for professional doctorates, and other further and higher education qualifications. The article investigates how, using autoethnography, this can be used as part of the research process. It concludes with my reflections on how undertaking a DProf has been beneficial regarding the redefining of, and the construction of, my own professional identity.

To explore the existing literature on the effect of Interprofessional Education (IPE) on the work environment of health professionals. The research question was systematized according to the PCC (Population, Concept, and Context) format. A scoping review was performed. A search of multiple bibliographic databases identified 407 papers, of which 21 met the inclusion criteria. The populations of the 21 studies reviewed were composed of professionals in the fields of medicine, nursing, psychology, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, and social work, among others. The study contexts were both academic and nonacademic hospitals, mental health institutions, and community settings, and the topics examined were organizational climate, organizational culture, organizational attachment and job satisfaction. The findings from the reviewed studies showed positive effects of IPE interventions on organizational climate and culture, but the results on job satisfaction and organizational attachment were mixed (i.e., positive and no effects following IPE interventions). Research on IPE is worth more attention as IPE could be an effective alternative for the fulfillment of the Quadruple Aim and achieving the third of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, aimed at improving health and well-being. It seems critical for IPE to be positioned as a trend in global health, aiming at boosting human health resources as one of its building blocks and calling the attention of health decision-makers.

Background: Like other professional training programs, social work pedagogy has long recognized the value of experiential learning for professional development. Despite social work's rich experiential learning literature involving field education, direct practice courses, and program evaluation, there is a dearth of literature examining how to make learning in the policy classroom experiential, particularly for large class sizes. Purpose: We asked, "How might electoral candidate debates provide experiential learning opportunities for large classes?" Approach: The authors organized municipal and federal election candidate debates attended in-person and online by over 300 undergraduate students in a social work policy class at a Canadian university. Integrating our experiences as instructors/organizers and a teaching assistant, within a social constructivist framework, we used Kolb's experiential learning theory, and critiques thereof, to analyze reflective assignments from 73 students. Results and Conclusions: Candidate debates, when facilitated appropriately, can encourage students in large courses to work through the stages of experiential learning and consider related concepts and possible links among social justice course content and social policy, social work practice, and political engagement. Implications: The paper contributes to a broader understanding of the opportunities and constraints associated with employing experiential learning in the large social work classroom and beyond.

Learning and working together towards better health outcomes today have become more complex requiring an investigation on how interprofessional education (IPE) and interprofessional collaboration (IPC) practices could be sustained and further developed. Through a sociomaterial perspective, we can better understand IPE and IPC practices by foregrounding the material aspect of learning and working together and examining its relationship with humans and their interactions. This article aimed to examine existing literature that discusses the application of sociomaterial perspectives in IPE and IPC. A scoping review was conducted following Arksey and O'Malley's framework to explore the extent within the current body of knowledge that discuss how sociomaterial perspective is applied in IPE and IPC practices. A systematic database search was performed in September 2021 to retrieve literature published from 2007 onwards, with forty-three papers meeting the inclusion criteria. These papers included research articles, book chapters, conference papers and commentaries, with the majority originating from Europe. The thematic analysis revealed the following themes: (1) power as a sociomaterial entity shaping IPE and IPC; (2) inclusion of non-health professionals in reimagining IPE and IPC practices, and (3) the critical understanding of sociomateriality. The findings suggest that a sociomaterial perspective can allow for the reimagination of the contemporary and future practices of interprofessionalism.

Despite policies favoring delivery of interventions for children with communication disorders in the classroom, most school-based interventions are delivered outside the classroom. Both teachers and speech-language pathologists (SLPs) have been found to have positive attitudes toward classroom-delivered intervention and the collaboration skills required to implement it. The purpose of this study was to explore preservice teacher and SLP attitudes toward inclusive service delivery and perceptions of their collaboration skills. The study used convergent mixed-methods, two-group design with participants completing an assignment requiring interprofessional collaboration. Twenty-nine preservice teachers and SLPs consented to the preassignment survey, and 37 consented to the postassignment survey. Compared to preservice teachers, preservice SLPs more strongly agreed that interventions are best delivered in the classroom. After the collaborative assignment, participants more strongly agreed that SLPs should implement classroom-based interventions. The preservice SLPs more strongly agreed that they had skills to identify children's language needs in the classroom. Barriers to collaboration included differences in goals, role understanding, and level of preparation across the professions. The findings suggest that to foster more inclusive delivery, professional preparation programs require more focus on building skills in respectfully managing differences in what each professional brings to classroom-based language interventions.

The prevalence of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) has risen significantly in the past two decades. Unfortunately, there is a shortage of mental health providers who have specialized training in delivering evidenced-based services to this population. Early intensive behavioral intervention (EIBI) is an evidenced-based treatment recommended for toddlers with ASD, and school psychologists are uniquely positioned to help children with ASD receive it. However, many school psychologists do not receive adequate training in this subspecialty. This paper makes recommendations to school psychology training programs about how to add or improve training in this subspecialty based on the results of an Office of Special Education Programs grant-funded ASD training program which involved collaboration between a NASP-approved and APA-accredited school psychology training program and a community-based early intensive behavioral intervention (EIBI) clinic. The grant supported development of an interdisciplinary didactic and clinical training program to increase the ASD knowledge, skills, and competencies of school psychology graduate students, with the broader goals of developing a replicable training model and increasing the workforce of trained providers for this underserved population. Fifteen graduate students completed the training program. Outcomes related to trainee knowledge, skills, and competencies, trainee satisfaction, and lessons learned over time analyzed within a logic model that guided the project's development and execution can be informative for other school psychology programs undertaking training in this subspecialty.

Research suggests that the reported increase in student mental health issues such as study burnout might be related to students' identity problems and their motivations for undertaking higher education. The present study added to this line of research by investigating the associations between identity profiles, motives for attending university and study burnout in a sample of Finnish first-year university students (N = 430). Field of study (professional vs non-professional) as a factor was also evaluated because differing occupational prospects might influence one's sense of identity. The results showed that (1) three identity profiles emerged (i.e. achievement, moderate moratorium and diffusion), (2) students in the achievement profile scored lowest on burnout, (3) the achievement profile was the most common among students studying for entry to a profession and (4) students in the achievement profile scored highest on internal motives for attending university. It is concluded that most students lack a clear sense of identity and that identity measures may be more appropriate in predicting study progression and well-being than motives for attending university or engaging in a field of study.

The main purpose of the article is to demonstrate the need for multidimensional professional training of employees for challenges related to the rapidly-developing digitalization, which consequently translate into the competitiveness of the economy. The theses presented in the article have been verified using: literature review, critical literature analysis, document research and comparative analysis. Based on this article, we can discuss a future in which man and the surrounding reality will depend on the rapidly-developing digitalization. This phenomenon may lead to a fading of the known world and the transition to a new one defined by technologies based on the flow of data and its analysis. However, knowledge will still remain important for such a change. It seems that the ongoing education system should be better connected with competencies allowing for changes that are taking place in the economic environment. The article demonstrates the importance of knowledge and provides an opportunity to exchange ideas in the vigorously-developing digitalization. Through the knowledge presented in the article, it can be concluded that the digitalization of the education system and labour market means revolutionary changes, incomparable with the objectives and scope of the existing measures.

It is our source and it is irreversible. With industrialization, the time people spend at work has decreased, and their free time has increased. This has led people to look for new ways to spend their free time productively. At this point, graduates of the recreation department will have the opportunity to show the methods that will be useful for people to spend their free time efficiently in line with the education they receive. Since graduates are thought to be employed in organizations that provide leisure time services, the qualifications of graduates are important in this regard. In this study, the expectations of the employers from the graduates and the required qualifications of the graduates were investigated. One issue drawn from the results is that although each branch has specific expectations, all graduates must have certain qualifications, such as communication and constructive language skills.

Local socioeconomic advancement has given rise to great growth in language service industry of Gansu China, creating the brisk demand for full-fledged translation and interpretation (T&I) talents. However, such progress is slowed by a lack of senior T&I talents and poor T&I training. The existing literature provides little information on the further exploration of the imbalance between T&I talents supply and market demand in Gansu. Therefore, this study adopts quantitative analysis of the data collected through two structured questionnaire surveys to investigate the root causes of this discrepancy. The first survey is for the employment status and curriculum satisfaction among Gansu's Master of Translation and Interpreting (MTI) graduates. MTI graduates from Lanzhou University and Northwest Normal University provide 220 samples through the random sampling method. While the second survey examines employer demand for T&I talents. 52 samples are drawn from Gansu's renowned and accredited language service providers (LSPs) and non-language service providers (non-LSPs) using the stratified sampling method. Results of the research reveal that only 3.18% MTI graduates enter into the T&I industry, confirming Gansu's MTI training fail to meet the market demand. Based on the market-specific requirements for translators and interpreters, the present authors put forward several suggestions from the perspectives of aligning curriculum design with market needs, meeting the qualification requirements and enhancing the cultivation of essential T&I competences, with hope of providing effective references to the T&I training in Gansu Province and even other regions in northwest China.

This study takes a fresh look at vocabulary learning from the lens of professional translation practice and proposes integrating parallel texts with translation tasks to foster vocabulary learning. The study adopts a quasiexperimental design to examine the effectiveness of using parallel texts in pedagogical translation to foster EFL learners' lexical gains and vocabulary retention. It compares learners' foreign language vocabulary gains as a direct result of pedagogical translation tasks completed under two conditions: (1) Translation tasks with parallel texts (the "parallel-text approach") versus (2) translation tasks without parallel texts. A total of 40 Chinese EFL sophomores in social sciences participated in this study. The study consists of two experiments with identical procedures to allow all participants to swap roles and experience vocabulary learning under both conditions. Qualitative and quantitative data were retrieved from learners' drafts, revisions, and post-tests. The potential benefits of using parallel texts in pedagogical translation tasks were revealed in both between-group and within-subjects analyses. Empirical evidence of the pedagogical value of parallel texts may help language educators to innovate and facilitate learners to rethink their strategies.

There is a social and cultural problem related to suicide in advanced societies. From a professional point of view, social workers intervene to achieve social welfare and health for the people with whom they work without being exempt from suffering suicidal ideation themselves. The present research aims to analyze suicidal ideation in undergraduate students of Social Work. Through a quantitative methodology, this phenomenon is analyzed in a large sample of students belonging to Spanish universities (n=1005). In the statistical study, a frequency analysis, a cross-table analysis, and a binary logistic regression are developed, taking as reference the dependent variable: the risk of suicidal ideation. The predictor variables of suicidal risk are: sex, type of social relationships, bullying in previous stages, consumption of antidepressant medication, increased anxiety after COVID-19, and economic difficulties in continuing studies. Universities should not be oblivious to the problems of their students but should incorporate specific programs for the treatment and prevention of suicidal risk, promoting quality education about the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals.

Few studies have been conducted on the use of the ACPA/NASPA Competencies (2015) in graduate preparation programs. To understand the use of these competencies in graduate preparation programs in student affairs, two case studies of two graduate preparation programs at public institutions in the South were conducted. Interviews with graduate program coordinators and focus groups with graduate students and graduate assistantship supervisors identified areas of improvement, including increasing connection with practitioners.

This article reports on an evaluated workshop using a speed networking method to promote inter-professional work-integrated learning (WIL) in a tertiary classroom setting. The article includes specific reference to speech-language therapy, nursing and social work, three of the seven disciplines that engaged with the exercise. Social constructivist learning theory is discussed with reference to development of work readiness for interprofessional teamwork among final year speech-language therapy students. The practical considerations used in facilitating the workshop are explained, with findings derived from a thematic analysis of the evaluation feedback provided. The key outcomes from the learning exercise identified an increased understanding of diverse professional identities amongst students whilst challenging pre-existing disciplinary stereotypes. Finally, the pedagogical implications of facilitating this WIL initiative are discussed.

The concepts of 'graduateness' and graduate attributes became contested terrain before COVID-19 destabilised even the most assured of shared learning constructions. Indeed, for those of us immersed in the delivery of work-based learning (WBL), this has long been the case. Promotion of reductive notions of 'skills' acquisition to comply neatly with an employability agenda holds little relevance for those students already engaged in full time careers, and with a wealth of professional experience. What can hold influence and interest, however, is the opportunity to engage in meaningful, agentic, professionally-aligned reflective practices as a scaffolded route to promoting self-awareness and developing confidence in mapping competences from the professional domain to the academic (and vice versa). This paper shares an account of taking an embedded approach to supporting the development of academic literacies amongst work-based learners in one UK HEI. In particular, it will consider the use of reflective pedagogical tools and values in supporting work-based learners to become confident and adaptable writers. Discussion considers how work-based pedagogies and approaches may have far-reaching relevance in a post-pandemic landscape, where reskilling and professional agility are likely to become more prolific aspects of education and work. Writing itself is framed as an integrated communication practice that encompasses literature retrieval, reading, evaluation, synthesis and articulation of argument. The paper will describe pre-pandemic academic support activities and share qualitative survey data in which students consider their confidence as both professional and academic writers. It concludes with consideration of how some of the approaches outlined may have relevance for the wider academic community.

Best practice guidelines for psychologists working with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, and queer+ (LGBTIQ+) people and position statements against "conversion therapies" have been published internationally. These call for professional psychologist education to develop competence for work with this community, but studies show variability and lack of inclusion of LGBTIQ+ content in professional programmes in higher education institutions. A critical narrative review examined approaches to the inclusion of LGBTIQ+ concerns in the education of psychologists. A systematic literature search identified 33 papers for review. Synthesis of findings highlighted benefits and challenges of the cultural competence approach to LGBTQ+ curricular inclusion; a contested pedagogic space relating to religious belief, homophobia, and sexualities; a shift in psychology to include resilience-based frameworks of sexuality and gender diversity; and finally disaggregation of the LGBTQ+ umbrella with emergence of transgender and gender diversity focused research. Lack of research relating to people with intersex variations and the need for LGBTIQ+ representation/voices in this research area were evidenced.

Purpose: This paper explores social media practices with an exemplarily focus on constructions of space and social movements. It aims at identifying prospects for social science education under digital conditions regarding the reconfiguration of content and possibilities for digital literacy. Approach: By reviewing and summarizing popular strands of discussion on the application of social media practices in constructions of spaces and social movements, we identify common didactical themes from an educational perspective. Subsequently, we discuss social networks as real-world learning contexts in light of creative practices. Findings: Building on this, we derive theoretical implications for social science education for teaching and learning within social networks with a special focus on creativity. Following this, we present implications for social science literacy as well as digital literacy, which are two sides of the same coin. Practical implications: Finally, we present implications for future research and outline prospects for a future social science education.

Content, pedagogy, and technology knowledge are central to effective teaching. Moreover, the interaction and integration of these knowledge bases challenge teachers, especially non-teacher education graduates including diploma professional education (DPE) graduates. Utilising adapted instruments, this study investigated the teaching competence of biology teachers who are DPE graduates, specifically their Technological, Pedagogical, Content Knowledge (TPACK) and Biology teaching competence to design a teacher professional development (TPD) programme. Most teachers were BS Nursing graduates with professional teaching licenses and teaching experience ranging from 3 to 10 years. Also, most teachers received between one to five TPDs focused on biology, pedagogy, and technology. Among the TPACK components, the teachers perceived that they were least competent in pedagogical knowledge (PK) and pedagogical content knowledge (PCK). Although the teachers agreed on their perceived overall TPACK competence, there is still an avenue to strengthen their TPACK. Teachers also believed that they were least competent in biological cellular processes. Need-based teacher professional development programmes are recommended to enhance Biology teachers' TPACK, and ultimately, biology education.

Over the last two decades, a remarkable number of studies have examined the role of engineering education in supporting knowledge and skill building among children. In this paper, we present a synthesis of this literature to evaluate the added value of pre-college engineering design experiences at the elementary level, and ways researchers have gathered evidence of children's development of this knowledge and skills. We have conducted a systematic literature review. The initial search across four different databases with relevant keywords resulted in over 3000 journal articles and conference papers. In a two-rounds screening, by applying the inclusion criteria first to titles and abstracts, and then to the full text, 78 peer-reviewed publications were included in this systematic literature review. We summarized and synthesized empirical evidence of student learning and engagement in engineering design activities, and approaches they were assessed and elicited. The thematic analysis revealed five categories of knowledge and skills: (1) disciplinary content knowledge; (2) engineering design practices, (3) engineering thinking skills; (4) professional skills; and (5) career awareness. Additionally, the assessment and evaluation approaches that were used for each of these categories were identified and discussed. The findings provide collective evidence of variety in student learning opportunities but also suggest the need to carefully define these knowledge and skills. Since a wide range of evaluation approaches were used to capture similar outcomes, we conclude that it is imperative to develop a shared research agenda by carefully defining the knowledge and skills we expect children to learn.

Strategic competence, as a meta-cognitive ability, determines the other translation sub-competences. To tease out how students' strategic competence is developed in translation project is significant in enlightening the translation teaching practice. This study explores how five Chinese college students' translation competence, particularly their strategic competence, develop within a translation project introduced into the translation teaching of the authors' institute. Strategic competence includes four parts: problem identification, solution proposal, action taking, and decision making. By examining both the translation process and the translation product, including translation tasks, translation logs, group discussions, and interviews from five student translators, we found that the overall translation competence of the student translators has significantly improved. The development of various elements of strategic ability is uneven, with the abilities to identify problems, evaluate issues, and take measures showing the most significant improvement. However, there is a lag in decision-making capabilities in translation output. Based on these findings, the study provides concrete suggestions for improving the teaching of translation.

Field trips to augment in class learning hold valuable learning opportunities and can be transformative when observing context is important to understanding complex issues such as mental health and addiction. However, student reflections papers written after participating in the field trip were reviewed over a five-year period and identified that this form of experiential learning also resulted in harm to some social work students. Using a phenomenological approach (van Manen, 1990) to secondary data analysis, 53 papers identified four clusters of meanings related to discomfort, appreciation/ambivalence/regret, personal experiences of trauma and power. These individual experiences collectively raised larger questions around social work pedagogy and how educators should prepare students when confronted with distressing situations. We wondered to what degree witnessing such conditions became either a transformative experience as described by Rone (2008) or re-enacted individual experiences of past trauma. With field experience a pedagogical cornerstone to a career in Social Work, we advocate for ethically balancing between safeguarding students from feeling acute distress or re-experiencing trauma as a result of field trips, while ensuring they are professionally prepared to enter the profession upon graduation.

This study uses a critical consciousness framework to understand the experiences of higher education and student affairs (HESA) graduate students in an elective Diversity in HIED course. We drew from narrative inquiry to analyze data from selected student coursework in online discussion board conversations and journal entries. Students demonstrated building a foundation for engagement with critical consciousness, particularly through themes of interest in the emotions that surfaced during the course, reconceptualizing "diversity," and how to apply their learning to HESA practice. Participant learning reflected that HESA graduate programs can foster an important foundation for personal and professional development in this area. This knowledge can help faculty and supervisors support HESA graduate students' learning and preparation for active engagement regarding critical consciousness in HESA practice.

Although there is a growing body of research that suggests the mental health of graduate students differs from that of their undergraduate counterparts, studies examining international students at the graduate level are scarce. This study therefore compares mental health diagnoses, challenges and stressors experienced, and use of mental health support, of international and non-international students who identified as being graduate/professional students. Data from the 2019 Canadian National College Health Assessment were used to compare the international graduate students (n = 1,876) to their non-international peers (n = 4,809). Significant differences were found on prevalence of conditions, certain specific challenges that are experienced, and help-seeking behaviours. Overall, international and non-international students may experience similar challenges, but international students are less likely to seek support. The findings suggest a need for graduate advisors and student affairs professionals to recognize the unique experiences of international graduate students particularly with their help-seeking behaviours.

Academics have historically been members of socially dominant groups--white, cisgender, heterosexual men, from middle- to upper-classes, who identify as able-bodied and able-minded. Members of other groups are often disadvantaged. In two larger studies, semi-structured interviews were conducted with professionals from marginalized groups. Here we explore the narratives of 16 participants who explicitly discussed their experiences in faculty positions within the health and social service professions. The "expected academic" roles of teacher, researcher, and colleague/administrator did not neatly fit for participants, clashing with the expectations they faced by virtue of their marginalized identities. Within the health and social service professions, the norms and expectations of the academy required marginalized faculty to make sacrifices of their time and sense of self to meet job demands. The effects of these role conflicts are pervasive, affecting many areas of academic work and beyond.

A majority of service learning (SL) studies focus on the student benefits and challenges, whereas few consider the organization (community partner) viewpoint. This study examines the value that small businesses place on a marketing-oriented SL project run by the academic Marketing Department at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology in South Africa. A client programme evaluation was administered via a structured questionnaire and a survey in order to discern the perceptions of 107 small business community partners. Perceived value was cross-tabulated with the performance benefits, lack of value reasons, satisfaction, lasting value, future participation, and student group variables (registration and grades). Small businesses generally found that the SL project added value to their organizations. Those small business community partners who found the SL project less valuable noted reasons such as lack of project coordinator involvement, ineffective communication, and the SL project was not apt for their business.

The CPED Framework (CPED, 2022) envisions the EdD as a professionally-oriented alternative to the PhD. Within the framework, two professional aims are proposed: stewardship and scholarly practice. In this essay, I distinguish between the two terms, exploring how Erving Goffman's (1986) concept of frame analysis can be a useful approach to stewardship. I contrast Goffman's (1986) approach with that of frame alignment (Snow et al., 1986), noting that frames are useful for clarifying the improvement efforts of scholarly practice while also putting those who use them at risk of encapsulation. I explore how the signature pedagogy of the CPED Framework itself is such a frame. I hope this essay will be useful for faculty in CPED-informed programs designing courses to balance the dual development of scholarly practice and stewardship, and that it will be useful for CPED-informed EdD candidates integrating multiple frames into the definition and solution of PoPs.

Social justice is a critical component of many of the helping disciplines. Similar goals govern these different disciplines, which are reflected in the scholarship of their professional training. However, the crossover in scholarship is limited. This review of social justice andragogy literature from various fields in the United States creates a conversation among these helping disciplines so that they may be able to learn from each other. From these separate realms of scholarship, the authors have derived terms and recommendations of what these disciplines may learn from one another through their shared obstacles and through processing of their work.

To develop an English for Specific Purposes (ESP) course for learners who would like to work as international relations officers (IROs), a Target Situation Analysis (TSA) is obligatory for course developers to arrive at a conclusion regarding the English language skills that learners have to master in order to work in this professional context successfully. The present study, therefore, aims to investigate which English language skills are required for working as an IRO. Overall, 400 Thai IROs were purposively selected to participate in the study. The data collection procedures were divided into the collection of quantitative data through a questionnaire and qualitative data through semi-structured interviews. The findings revealed that listening and reading skills were most required by IROs in various working contexts. These two receptive skills are generally utilized because IROs need to gather information to build knowledge for communicating with their foreign counterparts. However, speaking and writing skills are still widely applied by IROs, as they also need to deliver key messages precisely and appropriately. The results of this study offer ESP course developers valuable insights into the English skills that should be emphasized in ESP courses for IROs.

In this article, I present the design case of a fully online graduate-level course intended to prepare instructional designers and human performance improvement practitioners with an introduction to the knowledge and skills that are foundational for the design and implementation of mentoring systems to improve individuals' and organizational performance. In addition, the course design case provides an opportunity for instructional designers and faculty instructors to observe how learners can engage in an organizational mentoring systems feasibility study and as mentees in a mentoring relationship, in a fully asynchronous online course. The purpose of these two projects is to provide learners with an experience to reflect upon their personal mentoring systems experiences thereby becoming better informed for future engagement in the design, development, implementation, and maintenance, of an organizational mentoring system that would deliver desired results. Further, the political environment in which the design case took place, the theoretical framework, and instructional sequencing, are made transparent so that other professional instructional designers and instructors can "observe" the decision inputs and immediate outcomes of the design to add to their store of design knowledge.

The rise in older population in Ghana is accompanied by challenges that may require trained professionals with specialized knowledge in geriatrics and gerontology to help address. Research, however, points to an existing shortage of geriatric-trained professionals in Ghana; a problem that can be addressed with the education and training of students with interest in aging. This paper offers a review of the state of geriatric and gerontology education in Ghana. The paper specifically examines current geriatric-focused training programs in public universities, and existing national aging policies with implications for the development and implementation of aging education in institutions of higher learning in Ghana. The review findings point to an urgent need for governmental and institutional commitment to promote aging studies as a component of health professions curricula in Ghana. Critical steps to prioritizing and forging a path to instituting geriatric and gerontology education in Ghana are discussed.

Based on previous studies, it was hypothesized that the personal background of students, including previous qualifications and work experience, may be one factor affecting their perceptions of interprofessional education. In a cross-sectional study, the associations between students' (N = 149) gender, major subject, previous degrees, and interprofessional work experience, perceptions of interprofessional education, and appraisal of members of their own profession in interprofessional cooperation were examined. According to the most noteworthy results, having more interprofessional work experience and a previous degree from a university of applied sciences was associated with perceiving interprofessional studies to be more useful. Moreover, having less interprofessional work experience was associated with perceiving members of one's own profession more positively regarding interprofessional cooperation. It is suggested that also these background variables are considered when designing and implementing interprofessional education.

The primary objective of this study is to determine the alignment of university educational programs with the professional standards of the IT industry. Answers to this question were sought through document analysis and convenience sampling. An analysis was conducted to compare the content of educational programs listed in the register with the content of professional standards. The study aimed to identify the most commonly referenced professional standards in these programs and examine their content. A significant challenge in this comparative analysis arises from the absence of a standardized methodological approach to their development. Professional standards were employed in a formal manner without integrating their requirements into the learning outcomes of educational programs. An additional significant challenge lies in the absence of measurability in formulating the requirements for the knowledge and professional skills necessary for the performance of job functions in various professions. A significant proportion of respondents from both stakeholder groups in the survey emphasized the necessity of collaboration to address the challenges related to the comparability of professional standards and educational programs. The findings of this study can serve as a foundation for developing a model for assessing professional skills during their development stages within university programs.

Interprofessional Education (IPE) is a critical component of healthcare education and a requirement of many accrediting bodies. Approaching IPE from a holistic, comprehensive lens allows academic institutions to overcome challenges related to operating within program- and discipline-specific silos. Bringing students together to learn with, from, and about one another's professions empowers them to improve their teamwork and communication skills while broadening their understanding of various roles and responsibilities. Clarkson College developed a compulsory IPE course that is documented on students' transcripts. This online IPE 301 course was designed to provide students with educational materials to enhance their collaborative skills for better care outcomes. The Clarkson College framework was derived from best practices across the IPE landscape, including the IPEC competencies, the Quadruple Aim, and NCICLE, a thorough review of literature, and input from other institutions. To extend the reach of IPE beyond the clinical healthcare setting, Clarkson College expanded the curriculum to include community involvement and service. This course involves both synchronous and asynchronous learning opportunities for undergraduate and graduate, as well as on-campus and distance students. It is comprised of five online modules that include four sets of didactic lectures, videos, and quizzes, followed by three IPE experiences with reflections. Quantitative data points include the use of the ICCAS survey as pre-, mid-, and post-tests. Qualitative themes were pulled from student reflection submissions. Three years of cumulative data indicate that Clarkson College's IPE 301 course has resulted in students' improved ability to collaborate interprofessionally, in both clinical and non-clinical settings.
