The objective was to develop an interactive presentation able to help dentists and undergraduates to select the most appropriate pulp therapy for each case, as well as to report the users' experience. Based on the literature, the signs and symptoms associated with pulp involvement in deciduous teeth were listed to cover the possible related clinical situations. Conditions that could contraindicate treatment were also listed, such as the impossibility of restoration. These data were used to create a slideshow, in Microsoft Power PointTM, in which it is possible to mark the data collected in the anamnesis as well as the clinical and radiographic signs of the case. From the combination of answers, the user receives a relation of suitable treatment options. The product was evaluated by undergraduates, dentists and pediatric dentists regarding use, content and understanding. They were instructed to report their considerations and encouraged to make suggestions, which were discussed by the researchers and, when relevant, were incorporated. Finally, the interactive presentation consisted of 41 slides that correlate the marked data and inform dentists and undergraduates about the most appropriate treatment options for deciduous teeth that have reversible or irreversible pulpal inflammation or necrosis. Users described the tool as “easy to use”, “very good”, “a great help”, among other positive aspects. Objetivou-se desenvolver uma ferramenta interativa capaz de ajudar profissionais e graduandos de Odontologia a selecionar a terapia pulpar mais adequada para cada caso, bem como relatar a experiência dos usuários. Inicialmente, a partir de literatura consagrada, foram estabelecidos os sinais e sintomas associados ao comprometimento pulpar de dentes decíduos para contemplar as situações clínicas possíveis, além de condições que poderiam contraindicar a realização do tratamento, como a impossibilidade de restauração. Esses dados foram utilizados para elaboração de uma apresentação de slides, em Microsoft Power Point®, em que é possível assinalar os dados colhidos na anamnese bem como as características clínicas e radiográficas do caso, e a partir da combinação de respostas, o usuário recebe a relação de procedimentos adequados. A ferramenta foi avaliada por graduandos, cirurgiões dentistas e odontopediatras quanto ao uso, conteúdo e compreensão. Esses foram orientados a relatar suas considerações e incentivados a fazer sugestões, que foram discutidas pelos pesquisadores e, quando pertinentes, incorporadas. Ao final, a ferramenta interativa - composta por 41 slides - relaciona as respostas obtidas e informa a cirurgiões-dentistas e graduandos a alternativa de terapia pulpar mais adequada para dentes decíduos que apresentem inflamação pulpar reversível, irreversível ou necrose. Os usuários a descreveram como “fácil de usar”, “muito boa”, “uma grande ajuda”, entre outros aspectos positivos.

Diversas são as técnicas de tratamento endodôntico em dentes decíduos, as quais variam, principalmente, quanto às substâncias utilizadas na desinfecção dos canais radiculares e pastas obturadoras. A literatura odontológica sobre este assunto é ampla e complexa, apresentando diferentes conclusões quanto à melhor modalidade de terapia pulpar para a dentição decídua. Assim, o objetivo deste trabalho foi revisar a literatura odontológica sobre a variabilidade de diferentes técnicas de tratamento endodôntico em dentes decíduos e discutir os pontos que influenciam no êxito deste tratamento.Descritores: Endodontia. There is a great diversity of restorative materials and techniques for deciduous molars with significant coronal destruction, including resin composite restorations and biologic restorations (portions of natural teeth). By using 4 evaluation methods, this study aimed at longitudinally evaluating the effectiveness of restorations in the deciduous molars of a patient having high caries activity, using adhesive techniques. The evaluation methods consisted of the fibre-optic transillumination method, clinical evaluation based on the United States Public Health Service criteria, radiographs, and an indirect method, scanning electron microscopy. Despite the patient's poor biofilm control, the restorative techniques were shown to be efficacious, particularly the biologic restorative technique.

INTRODUÇÃO: Objetivou-se avaliar a dimensão educativa das percepções e atitudes de médicos, enfermeiros e auxiliares de enfermagem na saúde bucal de crianças e adolescentes portadores de insuficiência renal crônica (IRC) em três hospitais do Rio de Janeiro. MÉTODOS Realizou-se uma entrevista com perguntas abertas e fechadas com 43 profissionais de saúde. Os dados foram coletados e tabulados no programa SPSS 13.0. Empregou-se o teste Qui-quadrado, com nível de significância estatística p < 0,05. RESULTADOS: A média de idade foi 36,5 anos (± 11,3), com 80% do sexo feminino. A maioria dos médicos (71,4%, n = 10) e enfermeiros (72,4%, n = 21) acredita que esses pacientes podem ter alguma alteração bucal decorrente da doença, sendo perda de esmalte e descalcificação as mais citadas. Em relação à orientação sobre higiene bucal, pouco mais da metade da amostra respondeu que orienta seus pacientes no sentido de realizar escovação (72,7%, n = 16), usar fio dental (9%, n = 2), fazer bochecho (18,1%, n=4) e limpar a língua (9%, n = 2). Apenas 9% (n = 2) orientam a higiene após o uso de medicamentos. Quanto à necessidade de cuidados diferenciados para esses pacientes, 65,5% dos enfermeiros e auxiliares de enfermagem acreditam que estes devam ocorrer. Para a maioria dos médicos (57,1%, n = 8), não há necessidade de tais cuidados. Apesar disso, 78,6% (n = 11) dos médicos têm o hábito de encaminhar os pacientes a serviços odontológicos. CONCLUSÕES: Diante da metodologia empregada, concluiuse que a maioria dos profissionais de saúde têm algum conhecimento sobre saúde bucal, porém suas atitudes não refletem esse fato. OBJECTIVE: To assess the educational dimension through the perceptions and attitudes of physicians, nurses, and nursing assistants in relation to oral health of chronic renal failure (CRF) children and adolescents at three hospitals of Rio de Janeiro. METHODS: An interview was conducted using open and closed questions with 43 health professionals. An interview was conducted by 43 health professionals using open and closed questions. Data were collected and uploaded into the SPSS 13.0 program. The chi-square test was used, with statistical significance level of p < 0.05. RESULTS: Mean age was 36.5 ± 11.3 years, and 80.0% of the interviewees were female. Most physicians (71.4%, n = 10) and nurses (72.4%, n = 21) believed CRF patients could have some degree of oral alteration due to the disease, loss of enamel and decalcification being the most cited. In regard to oral hygiene care, more than half of the interviewees answered that they used to inform their patients about dental brushing (72.7%, n = 16), flossing (9.0%, n = 2), mouth rinsing (18.1%, n = 4), and tongue cleaning (9.0%, n = 2). Only 9% (n = 2) recommended oral hygiene after the use of oral medicines. According to 65.5% of the nurses and nursing assistants, CRF patients require special care. Most physicians (57.1%, n = 8) do not think this is necessary. Nevertheless, 78.6% (n = 11) of physicians often refer CRF patients to dental services. CONCLUSIONS: According to the methodology used, it was concluded that most health care professionals have some knowledge of oral health, but their attitudes do not reflect this fact.

The objective of the present article is to report an uncommon case of a boy with history of 11 natal lost teeth, all belonging to the normal series of primary dentition, associated with absence of up to 21 permanent tooth germs. Such a condition resulted in the necessity for oral rehabilitation. Partial removable prostheses were used as a choice of treatment, and the patient will have to be constantly followed up so that new treatment approaches can be performed according to the patient’s development., O objetivo do presente artigo é reportar um caso incomum de um paciente infantil com história de 11 dentes natais extraídos, todos da série normal da dentição decídua, além de ausência de 21 germes da dentição permanente. Essa condição tornou necessária a reabilitação protética deste paciente. O tratamento de escolha foi a utilização de próteses parciais removíveis, e o paciente terá que ser constantemente acompanhado para que, conforme seu crescimento, novas alternativas de tratamento sejam utilizadas.

Goldenhar syndrome or oculoauriculovertebral dysplasia is a complex malformation which involves many structures and the main characteristics are: epibulbar dermoids, auricular appendages or fistulae, deafness, hemifacial microsomia and vertebral anomalies. Some anomalies in facial bone structure are also observed, especially on the maxilla. The inheritance type of this congenital malformation in not exactly known. Other syndromes and malformations have been documented in association with this disorder. The purpose of this report was to describe the clinical characteristics and oral findings of a patient with Goldenhar syndrome. A síndrome de Goldenhar ou displasia oculoauriculovertebral consiste em uma má formação complexa envolvendo várias estruturas e que tem como características principais: dermóide epibulbar, apêndice ou fístula auricular, surdez, microssomia hemifacial e anomalias vertebrais. Observam-se também anormalidades nos ossos da face, em especial nos maxilares. O tipo de herança desta malformação congênita ainda não é perfeitamente conhecido. Outras síndromes e malformações têm sido documentadas associadas a esta desordem. O propósito deste relato foi descrever as características clínicas e os achados bucais de uma paciente portadora da síndrome de Goldenhar.
