Abstract

A Tobit model is employed to test whether more entrenched members of the House are engaged in excessive writing of bad checks. The result supported that agency-theoretic interpretation and confirmed that entrenched members were more likely to write a greater number of bad checks.

Abstract

The effect of advice from the Value Line OTC Special Situations Service (VLSSS) on the prices of recommended stocks was studied. A significant correlation was found between advice from VLSSS and abnormal returns to shareholders near the release of the advice. It was observed, however, that the effect of the advice was apparently transitory, as there was no significant price response over longer periods. This observation held true for stocks listed on the American Stock Exchange and securities traded on the over-the-counter markets.
