The article analyzes the process of construction of the feminist general strike of March 8, 2019 in Chile, from the "fee" workers of the University of Chile, i.e. workers without a labor contract, organized in a union. By analyzing this process from the perspective of precarious workers and feminist activists, the authors seek to highlight a thread that is woven in Chile between the feminist movement in May 2018, the 8M strike of 2019 and the social revolt of October 2019. The hypothesis is that from the struggles against precarious work and feminisms, a repertoire of struggle of social movements and wage workers is renewed and extended. From a situated and self-reflexive knowledge, the authors analyze their practices in the process of feminist general strike, from a self-narration and content analysis of social networks and public statements of the union. This article explores the ongoing relations between creative industries, cultural work and the formation of young Turkish creative professionals' self- realization practices under the existing conditions of Turkey's 'neo authoritarian' liberalism. Drawing on the relational work perspective from economic sociology and semi-structured interviews with the study's respondents (N:120), this article will be headed towards the reconsideration of social, economic, political and cultural constitutions of Turkish creative professionals' formation in the creative economies of Turkey. In contrast with the majority of existing studies on this topic, this study argues that, contemporary capitalism's impact on the creative professionals' formations is not the necessarily the same. Profound differences there exist. Especially, the cultural and economic constitutions of creative professionals' in any given states creative economies conditions. Therefore, my study would conclude that the impact of late capitalism on creative labour is not unidirectional at least not in Turkish labours case. Conversely, the post Fordist service economies provide some positive contributions to Turkish young creative labourers' subjectivities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The gig-economy is a flexible form of labor characterized by project employment on digital platforms. The purpose of the article is to analyze the essence of the gig-economy in order to assess its impact on the work of the older generation. The analytical review was made taking into account the following tasks: 1) analysis of relevant literature, 2) secondary analysis of quantitative, qualitative and statistical data, 3) assessing the impact of the gig-economy on the employment of pensioners in terms of precarization. An analysis of the literature shows that the “flexibilization” of the labor market is described in ambiguous terms: a number of authors describe the positive aspects (no set schedule, growth of individuality, eradication of bureaucratic restrictions), while others focus on the negative consequences (instability of income, lack of social guarantees, overexploitation, etc.). The author highlights a number of negative risks for the elderly gig-employed (forced self-employment, vulnerability to fraud, lack of social guarantees from the employer, etc.), but comes to the conclusion that the gig economy has a fairly positive impact on the employment of the elderly: 1) social security (basic pension income and social state protection), 2) integration into a new labor reality and opportunities to improve well-being, 3) resocialization, etc. A separate advantage of selfemployment is a fiscal innovation that is beneficial for the elderly which allows pensioners to obtain the status of self-employed without sacrificing pension indexation. The scientific novelty of the study lies in analyzing the employment of the older generation through the lens of the gig-economy and precarization.

This research provides a critical examination of the precarity of our global food system and studies the precarious position of the Irish family farm within the broader framework of increasing neoliberalism, centralization, and corporatization of our global foodscapes. It aims to generate a better understanding of the precarity experienced by Irish farmers and the consequences of precarization processes that are continuously transforming and reshaping the political economy of agriculture and food. The research involved carrying out a quantitative survey of 198 Irish farmers, which was supplemented with qualitative interviews from farmers across Ireland with varying backgrounds and expertise. The results reveal a global food system that is highly fragile and rife with endemic precarity, which acts as a means to normalize the precarious conditions of everyday life on the Irish family farm in the modern world. At a time of crisis in news media organizations, with changes in the world of work occurring in different regions, a significant number of newsrooms have been affected by the mass firing of journalists. Multiple layoffs can be understood as part of a broader process of organizational change that is linked to deterioration in the working conditions of media workers and a transformation of journalistic modes of production. To understand the processes of organizational change in news organizations with multiple layoffs, this critical case study of news organizations in a western Mexican city relied on the analysis of data from multiple sources of information. It was found that the processes deriving in multiple layoffs do not develop homogeneously, but take shape according to context-specific characteristics such as, in the Mexican case, the institutional fragility of journalism and the uneven protection of rights across the territory. The collected data set illustrates how the processes of downsizing, convergence and precarization "commonly studied separately" may occur simultaneously and in an integrated fashion. The article discusses the process of precarization of youth in Russia which is caused by changing of labor relations in modern economy, widespreading of non-formal practices and gig-economy. Particularly the peculiarities of the formation of a self-employed group in Russia, which is linked with new legislature and adopting new tax regime for professional activity. The legislative framework and statistical data are analyzed, which allow us to identify trends in the formation of this group, describe disadvantages of new regime and to state that intensive growth of the self-employed layer is not expected in the near future. Based on empirical data obtained during quantitative (all-Russian survey) and qualitative (focus group interviews) sociological studies, the main risks of precarization of the self-employed group are identified: unstable employment, unemployment, low incomes, lack of social guarantees, mismatch of qualifications and education to work, etc. It was exposed that according their professional and labor orientations and strategies group of self-employment is very close to the group of individual entrepreneurs, which let us consider them as potential social base to stratum of entrepreneurs. The specifics of precarization of young people associated with the vulnerability of their economic and social status at the beginning of their career, the directions of their life strategies and ideas about the prospects of economic and political development in the country are shown. The data on the individual social fears of the respondents and interviewees allow us to conclude that self-employment based on forced and voluntary grounds leads to the construction of different life strategies and labor practices, which also correlates with the spheres of employment.

In this article, qualitative research data are presented and the precariousness of the teaching career in the municipal public school network of Palmas/TO is analysed. The study was conducted based on documental sources that regulate the structure of the Teaching Profession Career Plan, including the National Education Plan; the Municipal Education Plan of Palmas; and the Plan of Positions, Careers and Remuneration of that municipality. It is elaborated an interlocution between the normative scope and studies of the area, anchored, among others, in the references of OLIVEIRA (2004); ROMANOWSKI (2005); FELDMAN & GOUVEIA (2022). We present some findings of a research that aimed to know what are the subjective effects of indebtedness for state teachers in Rio Grande do Sul/Brazil. In this article, we focus on analyses and discussions concerning the production of teachers' indebtedness and the precariousness of their lives due to neoliberal rationality. The research work, whose methodology was a composition of an analysis of archeo-genealogical inspiration and the cartographic process, included interviews with eight teachers and analysis of reports from newspapers of large circulation, from the teachers' union, cartoons and reports on the Internet on the theme. Here we analyze the impacts of neoliberal governmentality in the condition and daily life of teachers considering the austerity policies conducted by state governments, the effects of public debt and the concept of neoliberal homo oeconomicus, addressed by Michel Foucault. The neoliberal logic structures the conduct of subjects as entrepreneurs of themselves, with emphasis on competition and individual accountability. We discussed the issue of debt as biopolitics, the implications of teachers' financial and moral indebtedness and the proletarianization of the profession, which led us to highlight a notion of precariousness not only corresponding to the low remuneration received by teaching professionals, but of life itself; in these circumstances, (mere) survival is normalized and credit for "life" is assured. We conclude by discussing the mutation of the popular saying that opens the title, in an attempt to link indebtedness and the precarization of life, an approach that we believe requires further study. The NGO-ization of feminist movements, under conditions of financial dependence, profoundly transformed feminist activism, by brining upfront the paid/unpaid and militant/professional divisions. By looking at the transformations of the contemporary feminist movements in Belgium and Romania, namely their professionalization, bureaucratization and precarization, this paper aims to understand how is NGO-ization related to activist burnout. It is argued that organizational and job insecurity became a concern among feminist activists as the fragmentation of funds exacerbated and the project-based work became commonplace. Since the 1970s, labor markets have been neoliberalized worldwide. In this context, labor market intermediation has been increasingly privatized and the temporary staffing industry (TSI) has undertaken a process of internationalization and diversification. This article seeks to discuss how and to what extent leading staffing firms have become powerful global labor market actors while diversifying their staffing services internationally. Building on the literature on the internationalization/globalization of the TSI in the 2000s, the article outlines a theoretical perspective for understanding current leading staffing firms as global labor market intermediaries (GLMI) and discusses the key empirical results of two case studies conducted during 2020 on the international diversification of the two main GLMI s: Randstad and the Adecco Group. The article suggests that GLMI s have developed this strategy to expand and, consequently, secure their "classification power" in order to increase labor market flexibilization and the consequent informalization and precarization of work. The article is devoted to the analysis of the content, essence and social consequences of the transformation of employment in industrially developed countries after the Second World War in the context of globalization - americanization - deglobalization of the world economy. The author pays great attention to exposing the modern mythologization of the digitalization of labor and labor relations in the countries of the global North in order to cover up the true essence of various forms of non-standard work, which has become widespread in the modern world-system within the framework of digital capitalism. At the center of the study and research of the problems of destandardization and precarization of labor in the world of digital capitalism is the digitalization of the world of work and labor relations and the impact of the digital economy on the situation of workers in Western countries, especially in the United States, which has become a role model throughout the world, including the countries with "economies in transition". The author draws special attention to the fact that the introduction of non-standard employment into economic practice in the West was caused by the transition of economically developed countries to the new social structures of accumulation by means of withdrawal, that is, by reducing labor costs within the framework of the neoliberal economy. Based on the study and analysis of foreign sources, the author concludes that the COVID-19 pandemic has become a trigger to the exacerbation of the current systemic crisis of global capitalism, which puts on the agenda the need to search for and implement new, fairer and more humane forms of world order under the slogans of the social movement of alterglobalists "People are higher than profits!" and "Another world is possible!"

This special issue was originally conceived as a conference organized at Duke University in January 2019, entitled "Neoliberalism in the Americas: Brutal Experiments, Distressful Realities, and Conspicuous Contestations. Re-thinking the South in the North and the North in the South." The premise that inspired this reunion was, since Milton Friedman used dictatorial Chile as a laboratory for his monetary theories, neoliberalism has always been a matter that concerned the Americas as a continent. It has bound together Chicago and Santiago in one single package of authoritarian rule and unfettered capitalism, blemished with Nobel prizes, wealth concentration, and always-renewed, never-fulfilled promises of freedom and economic growth. Most of the articles were originally presented at the aforementioned conference, including a piece shared by one of the keynote speakers, Brazilian philosopher Vladimir Safatle. Nonetheless, we have also incorporated other contributions, such as an interview with Australian scholar Melinda Cooper. These works address neoliberalism from literature to psychoanalysis, from politics to gender and sexual identities, from historical and present-day investigations. The result is a multinational, transdisciplinary volume centered on the experiments of neoliberalization which, since the 1970s, connect the entire continent—ultimately reaching the extent of a truly global experience. Blue-collar self-employment occupies about 23 – 25 % in the structure of the Russian economy and is the most difficult for sociological analysis due to its isolation from the outside world. The most acceptable methods of sociological analysis of the self-employed in the field of physical labor are observation, observation is included, an unstructured interview in a relaxed atmosphere, since they are very closed and careful, understanding the secrecy and illegality of their employment. The blue-collar self-employed demonstrate a specific “kulak” mentality that combines hard work, social flexibility, a low horizon for strategic planning of personal and work life, adventurism, mobility, self-exploitation, greed, mercantilism, and socio-cultural limitations. By their stratification nature, the blue-collar self-employed are reviving the archaic Russian urban class with its specific mentality, habits, and way of life. The blue-collar self-employed exhibit a hedonistic, prestigious form of consumption. Thanks to their income, they have made physical labor in the form of free self-employment very prestigious in the modern Russia.

The paper develops the concept of a rising invisible majority and explores the interconnections between the political economy context and the changing composition of European society. The concept illustrates how the transition from the Fordist to the neoliberal phase of capitalism is leading to a similar – if differently paced – transformation of the social composition across Europe. The material basis of the 'invisibility' manifests itself in a structural increase of unemployment, labour market precarization, and poverty. 'Invisibility' makes growing segments of the population less likely to participate in the institutions that regulate social life, while mainstream parties and trade unions no longer represent them adequately in the public arena. We suggest this trend will continue, and eventually concern a majority of the population, unless the neoliberal mechanisms of regulation are slowed or reversed. Enriching Polanyi's double movement logic, we hypothesise the existence of feedback effects from this transformation of the social composition to the political economy context that could lead to countermovements. Our reasoning is systematised in an analytical framework, complemented with a historical analysis of the Italian case, and a quantitative measurement of the magnitude of this transformation across 14 European countries. The purpose of the article is to study the peculiarities of precarization as the property of the modern labor market in Ukraine that is spreading under the conditions of imbalance of the country’s employment system; to examine the positive and negative aspects of the impact of precarious employment on the domestic labor market and its regulation in order to preserve the labor potential of the country. The study uses the methods of generalization, comparison, analysis and synthesis — to understand the essence of precarization and the peculiarities of the precariat formation as a special class; secondary analysis of statistical and sociological data — to identify the prerequisites for precarization, positive and negative consequences of precarization for Ukraine; graphical method — for clarity of data and a schematic presentation of the main provisions of the study. This paper considers the essence of the concept of «precarization» and defines the main attributes of precarious employment, among which the most significant are the absence or restriction of the rights of the employee in the workplace, access to social protection mechanisms, guarantees in obtaining a stable, permanent, legal workplace and income, ensuring decent work. It has been proven that in Ukraine the negative consequences of precarization prevail because Ukrainians are mostly forced to become precarians. Indicators of labor precarization in Ukraine have been determined and systematically analyzed. The scientific novelty is the systematization of precarious employment descriptors in the conditions of the labor market deformation in Ukraine. The results of the study can be used in the development of strategic plans for employment of the population, scientifically based monitoring of the implementation of the European Employment Strategy in terms of precarization of the labor market, and also form the basis for further research in this area. Bu çalışmanın amacı, öğretmenlik mesleğini prekarizasyon olgusu bağlamında incelemektir. Çalışma mevcut literatürün, fikirlerin ve bilgilerin taranmasına, özetlenmesine, değerlendirilmesine ve yorumlayıcı analizine dayanan bir eleştirel inceleme ve felsefî çözümleme denemesidir. “Prekarizasyon” ve “öğretmenlik”, çalışmanın ana tartışma izleğini oluşturan olgulardır. Prekarizasyon tam zamanlı, öngörülebilir, güvenceli ve istikrarlı geçim kaynaklarının erozyonu ile ilişkili genel bir güvensizlik durumunu imleyen; etkileri bakımından küresel, ulusal, toplumsal ve bireysel ölçekli sosyal, siyasal ve ekonomik temelli bir meseledir. Hemen her ülkede ticaretten sağlığa, basından eğitime kadar neredeyse her sektörde tesiri yüksek oranda hissedilen ve giderek de kötüleşen bir sorundur. Son birkaç on yıldaki makroekonomik değişiklikler, çalışma hayatındaki güvencesizliğe ve istikrarsızlığa karşı hiçbir mesleğin bağışık olmadığını göstermektedir. Dünya genelinde yaşanan küresel kriz ve ekonomik durgunluğun ortak etkisiyle zayıflayan uzun dönemli iş güvencesi, her meslek kadar öğretmenliği de tesiri altına almaktadır. Öğretmenlerin “koç” olarak konumlandırılmaları, suni performans ölçümleriyle standardize bir eğitim yapmak durumunda bırakılmaları, “öğretmensiz eğitim” ve “öğretmensiz sınıf”ların hızla çoğalması, atama bekleyen öğretmen sayısının artarak devam etmesi gibi çeşitli vesilelerle öğretmenlik mesleği bir yandan yeni bir anlam ve biçim kazanmakta bir yandan da güvencesizlikle karşı karşıya kalmaktadır. Toplumların yükselmesinde hayati bir role sahip olan, saygın bir toplumsal statüsü bulunan ve özel bir emek formu olarak nitelenen öğretmenlik, ne yazık ki prekarizasyon sürecinin mağduru bir meslek hâline gelmektedir.

Objective: This research aims to highlight the relation between precarization of work and migration, based on the understanding that migrant workers take part assisting in the economic and social development of the countries. Method: The methodology used was a systematic review of the international literature on precarious work and migration in the period from 2008 to 2018. Main results: People migrate between countries for economic, social or political factors. Common of these three reasons is the desire to have a better life conditions. Even in some cases these migrants get access to benefits, they probably will suffer some kind of precariousness - whether in unhealthy services, without legal protection or living in unsuitable housing. This is the ambivalent nature of the precarious work – and its consequences. Relevance/originality: It is observed that large part of the research on migration in the least developed countries began with propositions borrowed from researchers who codified the experience of developed countries. It is necessary in our field to present a systematic examination of how precarization and migration are addressed in the organizational studies. Theoretical/Methodological Contributions: As a contribution to the field, in this paper it is proposed a theoretical model that involves the two phenomena and, provides the reader with standardized and systematic scientific information that may assist in the development of the field by mapping existing knowledge on this subject.

Abstract. The article considers approaches to the measurement of precarious employment for numerous studies suggest various ways to estimate its scale based on empirical data. To systematize various methodological solutions, the author identifies three approaches to the measurement of precarization: at the macro-, meso- and micro-level. Each approach is described and illustrated with examples from Russian and foreign scientific literature. The first approach (at the macro-level) studies the prevalence of specific indicators of precarization in dynamics or different social-demographic groups that can be considered precariat. The second approach (at the meso-level) compares different types of non-standard and standard employment in terms of the quality of jobs and working conditions to identify types of employment that can be considered precarious. The third approach (at the micro-level) focuses on the individual employment instability, its subjective perception, lack of employment security, and develops precarization indices. The comparison of indicators within such indices allows to identify common components of precarization: characteristics of wages, social and legal protection, and feeling of insecurity. The article emphasizes features of each approach for the measurement of precarization: the first takes into account not only the employed population but also other categories; the second compares groups representing different types of employment but does not take into account the internal heterogeneity of these groups and considers them as having a high or low level of precarization; this disadvantage is overcome in the third approach that measures precarization at the individual level and takes into account not only types and conditions of work but also voluntary/forced nature of employment.

This article analyzes the tendencies emerging from the new configuration of the Brazilian world of work based on the changes in the labor legislation instituted in the Brazilian legal order, particularly between 2016 and the first trimester of 2020. To do so, a bibliographical review of the legislation and juridical doctrine, along with an analysis of data from the world of work, were performed. The methodology is composed by the epistemological perspective of Historical Materialism and the dialectical method. The present research points to a movement of flexibilization in the labor norms and the precarization of work relationships due to the incorporation of neoliberal rationality in the world of work.

"Do women* strike differently?" Departing from this polemical question by feminist sociologist Ingrid Artus, this paper analyzes how gendered labor struggles are negotiated and represented in and through collaboratively produced films. Two films that address precarious gendered working conditions and forms of strikes will be analyzed: the feminist short film Für Frauen - 1. Kapitel (For Women - Chapter 1, 1971) by Cristina Perincioli in West-Berlin and the 2003 video A la deriva por los circuitos de la precariedad femenina (Adrift through the Circuits of Feminized Precarious Work) by the protest movement Precarias a la deriva in Spain using methods of "militant investigation." I approach these films from the perspective of feminist theories of precarization with nuanced discussions of precarity since the 1970s, which tend to neglect gender as a category. The comparative analysis focuses on two aspects: on the one hand, I stress the cinematic representation of negotiation processes that create a common political agency resulting in forms of strike. On the other, I address collaborative production processes and ask to what extent these filmmaking practices can themselves be considered disruptions of the status quo. Juxtaposing the two films, I argue that negotiations of political subjectivity traverse different geographic and temporal contexts of feminist cinematic representation and practice. Furthermore, I explore how collaborative productions are instructive for cinematic debates on labor struggles, especially in gendered situations of precarization. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Between 1978 and 2018 the percentage of the Chinese workforce in the service sector rose from 12.2 to 46.3. A large share of this workforce is in sales, selling products ranging from household goods, insurance, advertising space, and education, to various other services. The proliferation of salespeople in China is facilitated by the dramatic increase in the number of university graduates. Personnel in sales jobs, which are particularly popular among graduates from rural backgrounds with degrees from universities with indifferent reputations, experience an extraordinarily high level of mobility. They typically change jobs every few months, either because they are fired or they pursue better opportunities. Based on one year of fieldwork undertaken between 2015 and 2017, this article shows how the rapid expansion of China's higher education subjects students from rural backgrounds to new inequalities, which, in turn, reconfigure the rural-urban divide into multiple intersecting hierarchies. Building on the concept of complexed development, this article analyzes how salespeople experience contradictory mobilities in a web of intersecting hierarchies. It shows how they achieve upward status mobility by breaking away from agricultural and manual labour and becoming university graduates and white-collar workers; but also, how they sometimes experience downward mobility in terms of income in comparison to previous generations of migrants and their less-educated peers.
