Though the growth of the gig economy has coincided with increased economic precarity in the new economy, we know less about the extent to which gig work (compared with other self-employment arrangements and non-gig work) may fuel economic insecurity among American households. We fill this gap in the literature by drawing on a sample of 4,756 workers from a unique national survey capturing economic hardships among non-standard workers like app- and platform-based gig and other self-employed workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Results from generalized boosted regression modeling, utilizing machine learning to account for potential endogeneity, demonstrated that gig workers experienced significantly greater economic hardship than non-gig and other self-employed workers during the pandemic. For example, gig workers were more likely to experience food insecurity, miss bill payments, and suffer income loss compared with non-gig and other self-employed workers during the pandemic. While household liquid assets endowment prior to the pandemic reduced the effect of gig work on experiencing economic hardships, having dependent children in the household increased this effect. Thus, contrary to democratizing entrepreneurship opportunities, these findings suggest that the expansion of the gig economy may exacerbate labor market inequality, where wealth-endowed families are protected against adverse economic consequences of the gig economy. We discuss the implications of these findings for inequality-reducing labor market policies, including policies that account for the interconnectedness of family and the labor market. The growth of non‐standard employment has emerged as a crucial factor that contributes to delays and difficulties in young people's transitions to adulthood. Previous studies have demonstrated the importance of multidimensional measures of precariousness. This paper aims to investigate the phenomenon of precariousness holistically, using an original database of respondents in Spain from 20 to 34 years of age. Using a mixed‐methods approach, we explore young people's understandings of precariousness and examine its key determinants and consequences. The findings illustrate the multidimensional nature of feelings of precariousness, with economic insecurity and work conditions being core elements. Importance: While the prevalence and impact of depression have been widely described in sickle cell disease, its relationship with precariousness has never been studied. Objective: This study aimed to describe the prevalence of depression and its relationship with clinical and demographic factors including social precariousness in children with sickle cell disease in French Guiana. Methods: We included children aged 12–18 years with sickle cell disease from the Sickle Cell Reference Center in French Guiana. A simple depression questionnaire "Child depression inventory 2" was proposed and completed by a clinical examination and consultation by a psychologist. Using the known assessment of health inequalities and poverty in health screening centres (EPICES) score, we developed a composite precariousness score that uses five items (each item is scored from 0 to 2). According to the chosen items, precariousness was defined as a score ≥5. Results: The prevalence of depression was 42.5% [95% CI: 31.5–54]. The median age was 15 years [95% CI: 13–17]. The age distribution peaked at 14 years in patients with depression. There were 76% of precarious patients in the depressed group and 18% in the control group (p < 0.0001). In multivariate analysis, genotype SC (OR = 7.66, [1.17; 50.13], p = 0.0338) and precariousness (OR = 15.68, [4.73; 51.94], p < 0.0001) were associated with higher rates of depression. Baseline hemoglobin levels (OR = 0.48, [0.27; 0.88], p = 0.0173) were also associated with lower rates of depression. In a context marked by restrictions due to COVID-19 pandemic, this article analyses the impact of COVID-19 on Basque musicians' activity, income, future expectations and life satisfaction. A survey was conducted in 2021 among Basque musicians belonging to MUSIKARI association. Associations among selected variables were analysed calculating correlation rates and conducting inference tests using SPSS software (IBM SPSS statistics). We found that despite the severe damage done by COVID-19 on musicians' activity and income, this damage has been homogeneous among different types of musicians. In this article I examine how literature for children re-established itself in the socially, economically, and institutionally devastated and nascent revolutionary precarious situation of the post-war period. I draw on a larger study of socialist Yugoslav literature for children (1945–91) and with reference to the first post-WWII issues of the Slovenian children's magazines Ciciban (1945–present) and Pionir (1945–90). I also explore how the emergent literature for children, particularly magazines, addressed a generation who had experienced violence, persecution, orphanhood, flight, internment, famine, occupation, and armed resistance, followed by post-war daily life. I draw on the concepts of 'precariousness' and 'precarity' (Butler) in the sense of an insecure existential state and the conditions for it. Instead of a top-down approach derived from totalitarianism research (usually employed in the examination of immediate post-war socialist production), a bottom-up approach that considers the complex relationships between (cultural)-political, (infra)structural, material, interpersonal, and affective contexts (as well as the historical objectifications that are embodied in the post-war production for children discussed here) allows a consideration of the past in a more complex light. AbstractEchoing the global expansion of precarious employment, China has experienced a surge in labor flexibility and job deterioration since its integration into global capitalism. Existing research also highlighted the distinct features of the Chinese labor market related to its post-socialist nature. The Chinese household registration system, known as hukou, has been critical in explaining stratification and shaping labor market outcomes in China. However, hukou reforms in the recent decade have further relaxed restrictions on labor mobility and hukou conversion, suggesting that hukou may gradually lose its importance in transitional China. Building upon the global research on precarious work and dynamics of precariousness in employment in the Chinese context, I conceptualize job precariousness in the contemporary Chinese labor market in three dimensions. Using pooled data from the 2010 to 2021 Chinese General Social Survey, I examine how hukou stratification is associated with the three aspects of job precariousness, compare the relative importance of hukou with other market-related factors, and identify the disparities of the state and market sectors. Precarity has long been a defining feature of the creative industries. Recently, the concept of a (universal) basic income (UBI) has received increased academic and policy interest as a way to mitigate the cultural and creative labour market’s precarious conditions. However, little is known about how artists experience receiving a basic income, and how this affects their work practices. Therefore, we explored such self-perceived effects of a basic income on artists’ professional and personal lives. We interviewed the recipients and the organisers of No Strings Attached – a 6-month experiment offering seven creative workers a basic income – at the beginning, middle, and end of this initiative (n = 22). Contrary to expectations of decreased productivity, our findings reveal three main ways in which respondents allocated their basic income: (1) “buying” time to improve their quality of work, (2) “buying” time to improve their quality of life, and (3) direct career investments. This article explores the potential of youth transitions to explain and contextualize young people's engagements with politics. It starts with the discussion of the alleged detachment between young people and politics, recently challenged by research on alternative engagements and Do It Ourselves (DIO) politics (Pickard, Sarah. 2019. Politics, Protest and Young People. Political Participation and Dissent in the 21 Century Britain. London: Palgrave MacMillan. doi:). Then follows the discussion on the contributions which different currents on youth research have brought to the role of youth transitions in young people's engagements with politics. Youth transitions are afterwards defined as the strategic setting where intensive and plural engagements with politics may emerge if certain conditions are met. This is the context where a sense of place in the structural spectrum of inequality starts to develop and the correspondent agentic response blossoms, fostered by crucial encounters with significant others and the occurrence of critical moments. This account is brought by a qualitative approach based on the biographical records of a group of intensely mobilized young people, which retraces the individual processes of engagement made through transitions during education and from education to work, highlighting the contribution that transitional features may bring to the development of successful 'militant careers' (Filieulle, Olivier, Lilian Mathieu, and Cécile Péchu. 2009. In this article I present the concept of the 'peripheral condition' in the context of theoretical discussion on planetary urbanization. Inspired by Neil Brenner and Christian Schmid's interpretation of urbanization, which draws from Lefebvre's oeuvre, I suggest taking into consideration Robert Kurz's key insights about the internal contradiction of capital. In this study I seek to integrate the 'critique of value' theory's crisis‐centric approach into the literature on planetary urbanization, as it allows us to move beyond accounts that focus on extensive urbanization through operational landscapes and instead encompass the social relations that accompany it. Consequently, I argue that this comprehension reveals the periphery‐form as a relevant idea to qualify discussions on planetary urbanization once an ever‐growing population faces situations of precarity that were previously considered restricted to the peripheries. Despite a long-standing trend of increasing women in the profession, masculine norms and gender inequality persist in media work. During the #metoo movement, Swedish journalists launched the #deadline campaign, shedding light on the connection between gender and worsening working conditions. Increasing demands for flexibility have institutionalised temporary contracts, eroded job security, and expanded job precarity, with women and young journalists disproportionately affected. In this article, we explore gendered journalistic precarity and systemic inequalities, challenging the assumption of professional homogeneity in the field of journalism. We conducted 23 interviews with Swedish journalists on temporary contracts, applying a feminist analysis to understand how power dynamics affect their experiences. Five years post #metoo, gender issues have faded from professional discourse. However, the interviews reveal continued gender discrimination and harassment, exacerbated by factors such as age, class, and position in the labour market.

This study analyzes the trajectory of Brazilian women journalists. It compares the position of women and men journalists in the workplace and in the configuration of journalistic careers. It also analyzes how bot groups make their choices within this organizational system. This study also discusses how work-family balance mechanisms affect both genders differently. To meet these objectives, two sets of data were explored: a survey conducted with 496 Brazilian journalists and in-depth interviews conducted with 21 professionals. Results coincide with findings from literature in the area regarding structural inequalities in the profession: women earn less; they are under-represented in leadership and directorial positions in media companies while simultaneously being in the majority in less legitimate and more precarious segments of the profession. Women appear to limit their career choices to less ambitious positions in the workplace. In addition, female journalists are more likely to be constrained by the effects of balancing work and family when building their careers. The study argues that the literature on journalism careers should take gender studies into account when proposing different typologies of journalists' careers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper examines the perspectives of older people in Mexico in terms of precariousness. Relevant literature is reviewed and descriptive statistics from various government surveys are analysed in detail. The evidence suggests that the current structure of social security and pensions, education and health status, among others, perpetuates the failure to provide security and quality of life for older people in Mexico. This paper hypothesises that this situation of precariousness is probably not only related to the economic resources of the State, but above all to an ideological substrate based on a conception of older people in terms of vulnerability, decrepitude and deficit. As a result, older people appear to be infantilised and deprived of their human rights. The lack of stable options creates a horizon of vulnerability that may change in the long term, politically speaking, if older people become a decisive electoral force. During the pandemic, digital platforms had a boom in revenue or subscriptions. Despite their increasing relevance, few studies explore how different social strata experience such access. Based on 31 in-depth interviews in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, this article discusses the meanings and practices of digital consumption among the 'new middle class.' By focusing on three platforms—ride-sharing apps, food delivery apps, and audio-visual streaming—we interrogate how digital consumption has shaped experiences of well-being and hardship during pandemic times and how it relates to social mobility. We argue that digital platforms brought comfort amidst precarity as mechanisms for accessing relaxing and fun moments while responding to structural issues of Brazilian megacities. Our data also suggest these digital platforms enhance middle-class symbolic status related to individualised and private practices, though collectiveness is still present in participants' liminal class experience. This article analyses the complex role of hope in relation to sport in the constrained lives of boys and young men who have experienced the Swedish asylum process. The data derives from an ethnographical longitudinal project on the social dimensions of hope in the asylum process. The project is situated in the context of escalating austerity politics and restrictions on asylum law and policy following the increased numbers of people seeking asylum in Sweden and other European countries in 2015. Through ethnographic cases, we expose how political decisions on national and supranational levels, amplified by economic structures, have put research participants in extremely precarious positions, affecting every aspect of their daily lives, including their sports life and ability to hope. Our analysis focuses on how sports may provide moments of realisation that generate distraction and an optimistic future orientation. Sports can also become everyday acts of resistance and manifestations of radical hope, opposing structural constraints. However, our research suggests that long-term, uncertain waiting coupled with neo-liberal labour exploitation creates situations where time and energy are taken over by external control, leading to an inability to maintain hope and experience sports as meaningful. Tacit knowledge flows can be facilitated by employment transitions, such as for example the transitions of PhDs from university employment to industry. There are however barriers to transitions into and out of university employment, and as a consequence, such transitions are relatively rare. PhDs can circumvent the barriers to permanent transitions by simultaneous secondary employment relationships. Though we know that such cross-employment exists, we do not know how common it de facto is. In this paper, we use a nine-year panel of daily-level employment microdata on the full population of Finnish PhDs to show that about 30% of university-employed PhDs are cross-employed outside of universities. This is a substantial share, and its magnitude alone suggests a central but underappreciated role for cross-employment in contemporary knowledge production and dissemination. We furthermore find that similar numbers of non–university-employed PhDs are cross-employed at universities as university PhDs are cross-employed outside of universities, and that many cross-employment relationships are in non-technical fields, and with public sector organizations. This illustrates the importance of understanding the nature of knowledge flows other than the unidirectional flows of technical knowledge from universities to industrial firms. The aim of this paper is to analyze the development of labor studies in Mexico, both from the point of view of the evolution of the thematic field and its articulation with social and economic changes that have taken place in recent decades. Through a review and analysis of relevant studies, the ways in which the field has professionalized, specialized, and acquired a more solid institutional framework are illustrated. At the same time, some of the limitations of these studies are examined and future challenges are pointed out, considering recent changes in the labor markets and occupations. Transformations brought about by the irruption of digital technologies and new national and international regulations such as those derived from the T-MEC, are mainly highlighted. The writer Remedios Zafra has become a reference point for studies on digital culture in Spain. Zafra has explored how personal identity has been shaped and modified by the impact of the digitization of our daily environments, both leisure and work, and has done so by promoting the gender perspective. To personalize the experience of precariousness, Zafra invents a kind of autofictional double (named Sibila) in her work El entusiasmo: precariedad y trabajo creativo en la era digital (2017). The essayist’s voice and Sibila’s conscience are intertwined throughout a text that contextualizes and dissects that precariousness through complementary tools that come from sociology, economics, and gender studies. The purpose of the article is to critically analyze the mechanisms of this double precariousness from a perspective that integrates complementary tools to those used by Zafra. We will also resort to other works by the author, such as Netianas (2005), Un cuarto propio conectado (2010), (h)adas: mujeres que crean, programan, prosumen, teclean (2013) and the most recent Frágiles (2021), as well as the ideas of other authors who have explored the strong dematerializing component of digital technology, such as Paul Mason (2016) and Éric Sadin (2018), and the risks it entails for the development of the subject. In this essay, we analyze three novels published by Caballo de Troya publishing house: Listas, guapas, limpias (2019) by Anna Pacheco, Desencajada (2020) by Margaryta Yakovenko, and Proletaria consentida (2022) by Laura Carneros. Through these three works, with a clear autobiographical background, we examine the portrayal they offer of the precarity experienced by the young people of the authors' generation in a context conditioned by the crisis. Thus, we pay attention to the construction of the three protagonists' identity. They, coming from a working-class background (with a migrant origin in Yakovenko's novel), face a situation determined by uncertainty and instability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Spain has one of the highest in-work poverty rates in Europe and a high degree of job instability. Reducing in-work poverty requires an understanding of the entry and exit mechanisms specific to this situation, as well as the protective and risk factors involved. Based on data from the Spanish Living Conditions Survey (2017- 2020), this paper shows that households with children are more likely to experience in-work poverty, and that in-work poverty is more persistent in these cases. That said, entry into and exit from poverty is mostly associated with employment-related events, and to a lesser extent, with changes in household composition. The concentration of in-work poverty in households with children results from a process of erosion and accumulated risks, whereby wage losses have a greater effect on the risk of poverty, and the social protection system appears to be insufficient. This article, oriented towards good practices in social action, is nourished by reflection on the marked inequalities and precariousness that characterise contemporary reality, focusing on how these dynamics undermine the equitable distribution of opportunities that are fundamental for a dignified existence. From this perspective, we seek to reflect on the dimensions of precariousness and inequality, allowing for the re-evaluation of interventions in different environments and critically addressing the possibility of new modalities of action. The proposed approach implies an ethical commitment to overcoming the dilemma between adhering to the logic of the market and adopting a more humane and supportive stance, challenging conventions and promoting socially responsible practices. In short, the aim is to analyse intervention, enabling the (re)understanding of inequality in the social context and questioning the social structures that generate suffering, with a view to reconstructing the essential concepts of solidarity and community in contemporary society, in a critical understanding of socio-educational action in society. Bangladesh experienced a massive surge in humanitarian crises after the 1971 Liberation War due to the systematic use of violence at both public and private spheres. Fictional accounts of the post-conflict period depict women as subjected to institutionalised sexism and aggravated physical and mental violence. Critical studies on such narratives often reiterate a stereotypical and essentialising discourse surrounding women's identity, characterising them as helpless and passive victims of discrimination and exploitation. Drawing upon Judith Butler's notions of precarity and agency, we argue that the Bangladeshi-born British writer Tahmima Anam's The Good Muslim transcends victimhood narratives by creating a more nuanced image of woman as vulnerable victims and resisting subjects at the same time. The novel is preoccupied with notions of vulnerability, violence, religious zealotry, and family estrangement. The findings reveal that the precariousness of women in the post-war period is caused and aggravated by violence and oppression perpetrated at political, social, and religious spheres. Female characters like Maya and Piya are presented as empowered agents of transformation when it comes to vulnerable situations that render them as insignificant and precarious. The study concludes that the novel contests and alters the stereotypical representations of women embedded in normalising and hegemonic discourses. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract Precariousness dominates the lives of patients with recent diabetic lower extremity amputations. Wound healing is not guaranteed, post-amputation mortality is high and personal and social identities are destabilised. This study explores the experiences of nine post-amputation diabetic patients in the context of Singapore’s primary health and social care and diversified cultural setting. The loss of physical integrity leads to the self being rendered precarious in multiple ways: emotional-existential precariousness results from uncertainty about survival; agentic precariousness, from restrictions to the individual’s autonomy; the social self is rendered precarious as social relations and identities are changed; and financial precarity, which arises from job insecurity and treatment cost. Patients act to overcome precariousness and regain agency in various ways. Supporting patients’ agency should be integral to all healthcare interventions, at whatever stage of the patient’s journey, and needs to take into account cultural roles and values.

The article focuses on exploring the relationship between experiencing educational problems in the course of life and precariousness in further professional career of young Poles. My primary interests are concentrated around the biographical experience in the spheres of education (especially in the context of young Polish workers undertaking studies) and work. I examine how the educational problems that were present at different educational levels may affect life stories and how they could be linked with the struggling on the labor market, and how they eventually led to increasing exposure toward precarious conditions as well as, finally, the potential of trajectory of suffering. In the analysis, I am using biographical narrative interview conducted with Julian, a young precarious worker who failed to obtain a university degree. My main argumentation is that educational problems he had faced during his studies are in complex loop with his precarious situation on the labor market and led him to experience subsequent phases of the trajectory of suffering. On the other hand, I examine the role of the myth of university degree as a generational driver of upward class mobility.

Este artículo tiene como objetivo exponer los regímenes laborales de género en el capitalismo, a efecto de explicar la masculinización del privilegio en el ámbito laboral. El artículo emplea una metodología ajustada al análisis de textos tanto teóricos como empíricos. Análisis, interpretación y transformación de los regímenes de producción de la diferencia sexual que esencializan, mediante la ecuación naturaleza=heterosexualidad, la identidad sexo-genérica y las prácticas heteronormativas que rigen las organizaciones laborales. This article aims to expose gender labor regimes in capitalism, in order to explain the masculinization of privilege in the workplace. The article uses a methodology adjusted to the analysis of both theoretical and empirical texts. Analysis, interpretation, and transformation of the regimes of production of sexual difference that essentialize, through the equation nature=heterosexuality, sex-gender identity and the heteronormative practices that govern labor organizations.

The loss of physical integrity leads to the self being rendered precarious in multiple ways: emotional-existential precariousness results from uncertainty about survival; agentic precariousness, from restrictions to the individual’s autonomy; the social self is rendered precarious as social relations and identities are changed; and financial precarity, which arises from job insecurity and treatment cost. Patients act to overcome precariousness and regain agency in various ways. Supporting patients’ agency should be integral to all healthcare interventions, at whatever stage of the patient’s journey, and needs to take into account cultural roles and values. This article introduces the special issue, 'Social Media and Platform Work: Stories, Practices, and Workers' Organisation'. In recent years, platform labour studies have increasingly focused on how the growing platformisation of labour has changed work activities, labour processes, work organising, identities, and collectivities. The literature has highlighted the role of media, communication, and social media in platform labour, but more research is needed on these interrelationships. Precisely, the analysis of platform work is necessary due to its complexity and interest in political, economic, social, cultural, and health terms. Throughout the special issue, different contributions are presented that analyse how the emergence of these new jobs brings a set of inequalities that complexify the notion of 'work' and dilute workers' rights, leading to a precarious situation. The use of social media plays a crucial role in the platformisation of labour as it enables the creation of social relationships between workers but also opens the door to communicating, disseminating their work, and even learning informally and about their work. However, the use of social media can also lead to a precarious combination of platform work and content creation – or cultural production. In this regard, it is worth noting to analyse and approach the relationship between platform work and social networks precisely by addressing both perspectives, considering possible vulnerabilities derived from these situations and situations of precariousness. Temporary employment has been the core dimension of employment precariousness in Spain for decades. In December 2021, a labour market reform aimed at reducing the use of fixed‐term contracts, which especially affected young people, was passed. This article compares the situation of young workers before and after this labour market reform, with the objective of identifying internal differences among this age group. The results show a substantial reduction in the prevalence of temporary employment after the reform, although they also show that temporary employment, as well as incipient forms of precariousness such as involuntary part‐time employment, are more concentrated than before among the most disadvantaged in this age group, following traditional patterns of segmentation in the labour market. This article, therefore, provides insights into which profiles of young workers were better off after the reform and which were not, offering valuable lessons for other countries with similar labour market challenges. Sustainable employability (SE) refers to a worker's extensive set of capabilities to make a valuable and healthy contribution over time. Due to the high fragmentation and precariousness of their working conditions, entertainment professionals' SE is at risk. Methods: By considering valuable work, health, productivity, and long-term perspective capabilities as expressing entertainment professionals' SE, this study explored the unique pattern of associations among entertainment professionals' SE, conversion factors at personal (i.e., intrinsic motivation) and contextual levels (i.e., work–health balance external support and health climate, SE policies and social policies), and SE outcomes (i.e., life and job satisfaction and task performance), descriptive and network analyses were conducted in a sample of 123 Italian entertainment professionals. Results: Italian entertainment professionals' SE was associated with factors at all levels of conversion. Conversion factors at the organizational level (i.e., SE policies and social policies) had a higher predictability (i.e., practical potential) in the SE network, compared to factors at the personal level (i.e., intrinsic motivation). Conclusion. This study added empirical evidence to SE models based on the capability approach, by showing the central role of contextual factors in the development of an extensive set of entertainment professionals' capabilities. The article analyzes collective dynamics as one of the ways to understand the precarious nature of the experiences lived currently by workers. The result of two analytical exercises is presented: the first refers to exploring the notion of precariousness associated with the concept of informality in the evolution of Latin American social thought and as an operator for the study of contemporary work and precarious work experiences, considering the subjective dimension. The second, to reflect on the multiple meanings of the collective in these experiences, presenting the findings of the review of research carried out in the last decade. As a result of the interplay of these (meta)analytical paths, it is concluded that collective dynamics occupy a key place in job insecurity and its possibilities for transformation. In the last years, there have been many academic studies that have accounted for the social and demographic characteristics of contemporary Spanish emigration to different European and Latin American capital cities. Using an ethnographic perspective, this article analyses a specific group that participates in this phenomenon--20-to-40-year-old men and women with University studies that migrated to the city of Edinburgh, Scotland, between 2010 and 2019. Taking as a starting point a network of subjective factors as well as the anthropological thought and research about this issue, we aim to analyse the socio-historical circumstances that motivated the migration of this social sector to the city of Edinburgh, as well as their diverse forms of making a living. For that purpose, between 2018 and 2019 we have used different research itineraries -- participant observation, in-depth interviews -- with the aim of acquiring a deep diachronic knowledge about their practices, dispositions, assessments and labour trajectories. This analysis allows us to enquire into their work experiences in the city of Edinburgh and the collective solidarity networks generated in certain times and spaces in order to carry out revindication processes about the restrictive conditions of their daily lives. This also opens the possibility to enquire into two organisational processes -- as workers and as migrants -- attending to the difficulties and contingencies -- transformations, reconfigurations -- that they transit during their cultural and social shaping as a struggling group. The objective of this study was to analyze phenomenologically the life experience of women fish vendors in the Belen market of Iquitos during the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The sample consisted of 97 women fish vendors in Belen, Iquitos, Peru 2022. The analysis was carried out through interpretative phenomenology, text mining, qualitative analysis of textual data and analysis of the linguistic corpus. The narrative of the participants evidenced the internalization of dominant constructions of gender, ethnicity and social class that limit the transformative capacity of these women. Their discourse accounts for the ideologies and power relations that underlie the inequality that permeates their work and life experiences. Text mining exposed the centrality of work, family and COVID-19 in the discourse, with a predominance of negative feelings associated with economic and health difficulties, while the dimensions of Family and Spirituality expressed and predominated positive feelings. In the thematic analysis, work overload, economic uncertainty, family impact of COVID and faith as support in the face of adversity prevailed. The phenomenological approach revealed experiences and meanings, reflecting a reality of constant effort, precariousness and suffering, evidencing the prevalence of the sexual division of labor imposed by the double working day for women, which implied an overload of domestic work time during the pandemic.
