Introduction There are numerous reports of disrespectful, abusive, or neglectful treatment during childbirth from health facilities worldwide. Although India has substantially increased the number of hospital deliveries and reduced the maternal mortality ratio, the quality of intrapartum and immediate postpartum care for delivering mothers has not been given much importance. Therefore, assessing mistreatment and quality of care during childbirth is vital for promoting respectful maternity care. Methods A descriptive hospital-based cross-sectional study was carried out in a tertiary care center in central India. A convenience sampling method was used, and a total of 150 consecutive consenting women aged 18-49 years who delivered in the study setting were included. Data was collected using a predesigned and pretested questionnaire based on seven major categories per the Respectful Maternity Care (RMC) Charter. Results All the 150 women in the present study, i.e., 100%, experienced at least one form of disrespect during their labor, childbirth, or postnatal period at the hospital. The mean scores for domains of non-confidential care (0.59), non-consented care (0.95), abandonment or denial of care (1.21), and physical abuse (1.26) are low. Conclusion The findings of the present study shed important light on the current state of respectful maternity care in the study area. Though mothers are noticing and reporting positive changes in maternity care practices, respectful maternity care still has a long way to go.

Background: Population based sero-epidemiological studies help us to determine the burden of COVID-19 infection at the community level and to monitor the trends in transmission of SARS-CoV-2 infection. Antibody based sero-positivity indicates the extent of spread of infection in the given population and forms the basis for strengthening public health mitigation measures. The present study was carried out with the objective of conducting population level serosurvey in Nagpur district to understand the spread of SARS-CoV-2 and to help the designing and implementation of appropriate health system and policy level interventions. This cross-sectional study was carried out in Nagpur District over two weeks in October and November 2020. For the purpose of this survey the Nagpur district was divided into NMC area and Non NMC area.Methods: House to house survey was carried out and data was collected using Google form. For detection of SARS-CoV-2 specific antibodies venous blood was collected from each participant and electrochemiluminescence immunoassay was performed. The data was cleaned, coded and analysed using EPI INFO.Results: The total seroprevalence in Nagpur district was found to be 35.17 %. The seroprevalance in NMC area was 49.7% which was more than twice from that of Non NMC area (20.7%).Conclusions: Considerably large numbers of infections are asymptomatic, however a sizeable proportion of population is still susceptible to the infection and thus there is no time for complacency.

Whether weather plays a part in the transmissibility of the novel Coronavirus Disease-19 (COVID-19) is still not established. We tested the hypothesis that meteorological factors (air temperature, relative humidity, air pressure, wind speed and rainfall) are independently associated with transmissibility of COVID-19 quantified using the basic reproduction rate (R0). We used publicly available datasets on daily COVID-19 case counts (total n = 108,308), three-hourly meteorological data and community mobility data over a three-month period. Estimated R0 varied between 1.15 and 1.28. Mean daily air temperature (inversely), wind speed (positively) and countrywide lockdown (inversely) were significantly associated with time dependent R0, but the contribution of countrywide lockdown to variability in R0 was over three times stronger as compared to that of temperature and wind speed combined. Thus, abating temperatures and easing lockdown may concur with increased transmissibility of COVID-19 in India., Graphical abstract Unlabelled Image, Highlights • We tested association of geo-socio-meteorological factors with COVID-19 in India. • Air temperature, wind speed and lockdown were independently associated with R0. • Countrywide lockdown contributed to COVID-19 more strongly than weather factors.

Considering the relentless nature of spread of COVID-19 with no end in sight, many countries have now decided to lift off some restrictions and allow some non-essential services, at least in those areas which are not severely hit by COVID-19. Lack of planning for reopening can result in a cascade of failures as employers are not aware of how to address challenges of COVID-19 with limited resources under pandemic conditions. Undoubtedly this demands lots of modifications at the workplaces that will require various strategies including primarily development and implementation of the plan and maintaining and revising it from time to time. Thorough literature search was conducted for this purpose on varied search engines applying key terms as ‘COVID-19’ and ‘return to work’ and ‘safe workplaces’ and ‘life after lockdown’ which revealed different elaborate guidelines framed by various competent authorities in relation to reopening workplaces after lockdown of COVID-19 pandemic. The current review is an attempt towards combining and presenting broad guidelines for workplaces in a simplified manner.

A remerging infectious disease that has caught the entire world unaware. Coronavirus is an enveloped virus having non- segmented positive-sense RNA genome and belongs to the family Coronaviridae. Important modes of transmission are direct contact and respiratory droplets. Though the virus survives on environmental surfaces for varied period of time, it gets easily inactivated by chemical disinfectants .The major clinical features in uncomplicated cases include fever (88%), dry cough (67%), myalgia (14.9%) or fatigue (38%). In the absence of an effective treatment and vaccine, preventive measures like physical distancing, hand hygiene, following respiratory etiquettes & wearing mask assume great importance. Vigourous surveillance, contact tracing and containment can go a long way in controlling the spread of Covid 19.

Background: Emotional intelligence (EI) is defined as the ability to perceive, access and generate emotions. This in turn will assist thoughts to understand emotions and emotional meanings and thus reflectively regulate emotions so as to promote both better emotional and intellectual growth. EI is essential for a competent physician. The present study was conducted to know the EI of medical students.Methods: A cross sectional study was conducted at Government Medical College Nagpur among final year part 1 medical undergraduates. Data was collected with the help of pre tested, predesigned, self-administered proforma based on the “quick emotional intelligence self-assessment questionnaire”. Statistical analysis was done with epi info software and appropriate statistical tests were applied to prove the significance.Results: Of the total 197 study participants, 100 (50.76%) were female students and remaining 97 (49.24%) were male students. Mean score for EI was 102.16 With 95% confidence the population mean is between 99.6 and 105.Conclusions: Emotional intelligence for most of the study participants belonged to ‘consider strengthening’ category indicating good scores. Female medical undergraduates were more emotionally intelligent than male students.

Background: Falling sex ratio is signaling precipitation of demographic catastrophe in India. Female feticide, male child preference, and gender inequities are to be blamed. Objective: To study awareness and perception regarding Preconception and Prenatal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act among mothers of under-five attending immunization clinic and gender preference among them. Materials and Methods: A Cross-sectional study was carried out among 200 mothers of under-five attending immunization clinic at Government Medical College, Nagpur, during April–June 2014. Data were collected by interview using semistructured pro forma after obtaining written consent of mothers. Data were presented in percentage, mean, range with SD, and X2-test as test of significance. Result: Majority of mothers 150 (75%) were aware about decreasing girls in India. One hundred and sixty-one (80.5%) mothers were aware about prenatal sex determination, and 61 (30.5%) knew that sonography is used for this purpose. Awareness about PCPNDT Act was 65%. Awareness was significantly associated with higher education, upper socioeconomic class, and working status. Although 85 (42.5%) mothers knew that punishment under PCPNDT is in the form of jail or monetary fine, none were aware about the correct penalty. Of 83 mothers desirous of more children, 33 (40%) preferred to have male child; while only 14 (17%) had preference for a female child. Preference for male child was significantly associated with the birth of previous female child. Conclusion: Awareness regarding PCPNDT Act is high among those with higher education, upper socioeconomic class, and working mothers. Preference for male child is significantly associated with the birth of previous female child.
