The World Health Organization defines the multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) as a new syndrome reported in patients aged < 19 years old who have a history of exposure to SARS-CoV-2. The onset of this syndrome is characterized by persistent fever that is associated with lethargy, abdominal pain, vomiting and/or diarrhea, and, less frequently, rash and conjunctivitis. The course and severity of the signs and symptoms vary; in some children, MIS-C worsens rapidly and can lead to hypotension, cariogenic shock, or even damage to multiple organs. The characteristic laboratory findings are elevated markers of inflammation and heart dysfunction. The most common radiological findings are cardiomegaly, pleural effusion, signs of heart failure, ascites, and inflammatory changes in the right iliac fossa. In the context of the current COVID-19 pandemic, radiologists need to know the clinical, laboratory, and radiological characteristics of this syndrome to ensure the correct diagnosis. (C) 2021 SERAM. Introducción/objetivos: esta iniciativa surge de la puesta en común de experiencias docentes en las I Jornadas de Innovación Docente en Medicina y Cirugía Animal (Córdoba, 2011). Allí se presentaron algunas actividades que utilizan el éxito de metodologías basadas en concursos y competiciones, que consiguen que los alumnos las adopten fácilmente como métodos de aprendizaje.La actividad propuesta se basa en el popular juego TRIVIAL™ en el que equipos de alumnos contestan cuestiones de una batería de preguntas sobre veterinaria equina. Las preguntas están agrupadas por sistemas/especialidades.Se persigue crear un sistema de aprendizaje y autoevaluación formativa, que permita la evaluación de conocimientos adaptados al nivel de los alumnos de S~ del Grado en Veterinaria. Además de autoevaluar sus propios conocimientos sin la presión de un examen formal, el alumno practica la dinámica de grupo. La Universitat de Barcelona té la voluntat de difondre el fons patrimonial dipositat a les biblioteques del CRAI. Davant l'augment de la demanda d'aquest fons en préstec, tant per a exposicions nacionals com internacionals, es fa necessària l'elaboració d'un protocol per una millor organització d'aquest procés. A partir d'aquest protocol, que esdevé una eina que guia l'actuació dels professionals, s'enforteix la imatge de la institució que ha de ser en tot moment seriosa, rigorosa i professional. El préstec per a exposicions d'aquest tipus de material fomenta la seva visibilitat i promou la seva conservació i difusió. Així doncs, el CRAI Biblioteca Pavelló de la República esdevé un referent tant per la Universitat de Barcelona com pel conjunt de biblioteques universitàries i patrimonials.The University of Barcelona aims to disseminate the heritage collections deposited in the libraries of the CRAI. Faced by an increased demand for the borrowing of collections for both national and international exhibitions, the need to draw up a protocol for a better organization of this process has become evident. Thanks to this protocol, which serves as a tool for guiding the actions of professionals, the image of the library as a serious, rigorous and professional institution is strengthened. Loans for exhibitions of this type of material promote their visibility and foster their conservation and dissemination. In this way the CRAI Biblioteca Pavelló de la República has become a point of reference not only for the University of Barcelona but for all university and heritage libraries.

Objective: to assess persistence of sustained viral response at 5 years of follow-up in patients with chronic viral hepatitis C treated with pegylated interferon and ribavirin. Design: a descriptive study. Patients: from August 2001 to May 2004, all patients treated at our center with pegylated interferon and ribavirin who achieved a sustained viral response were consecutively enrolled (93 patients). Demographic, histological, biochemical, and virological data were collected during treatment and 5 years after achievement of the sustained viral response. Eighty-six percent of patients enrolled (n = 80) attended the control visit at 5 years. Results: mean age of enrolled patients was 41 years (standard deviation = 10 years), and 30.1% (n = 28) were women. Liver biopsy had been performed before treatment in 68.8% of patients (n = 64), showing no or mild fibrosis in 62.3% (F0 and F1) and significant fibrosis and cirrhosis in 37.7% (F ≥ 3). Genotype distribution was: 58.1% genotype 1 (n = 54); 8.6% genotype 2 (n = 8); 24.7% genotype 3 (n = 23); 7.5% genotype 4 (n = 7), and indeterminate in one patient. Only one patient experienced virological recurrence. All other patients had negative HCV RNA levels and, in the absence of other liver diseases, normal ALT levels. Conclusion: in patients treated with pegylated interferon and ribavirin with sustained viral response, long-term recurrence rate was very low. Objetivo: evaluar la persistencia de respuesta viral sostenida a los 5 años de seguimiento en pacientes con hepatitis crónica por virus C tratados con interferón pegilado y ribavirina. Diseño: estudio descriptivo. Pacientes: desde agosto de 2001 hasta mayo de 2004, se incluyeron de forma consecutiva todos los pacientes de nuestro centro tratados con interferón pegilado y ribavirina que alcanzaron respuesta viral sostenida (93 pacientes). Se recogieron datos demográficos, histológicos, bioquímicos y virológicos durante el tratamiento y a los 5 años de haber obtenido la respuesta viral sostenida. Se presentaron a la visita de control a los 5 años un 86% de los pacientes incluidos (n = 80). Resultados: los pacientes incluidos presentaron una edad media de 41 años (desviación estándar = 10 años); mujeres 30,1% (n = 28). En el 68,8% de los pacientes (n=64) se había realizado biopsia hepática previa al tratamiento, que mostraba ausencia de fibrosis o fibrosis leve en un 62,3% (F0 y F1) y fibrosis significativa o cirrosis en un 37,7% (F≥3). La distribución por genotipos fue: 58,1% genotipo 1 (n = 54); 8,6% genotipo 2 (n = 8); 24,7% genotipo 3 (n = 23); 7,5% genotipo 4 (n = 7) e indeterminado en un caso. Sólo uno de los pacientes presentó recurrencia virológica. El resto de pacientes presentaron niveles de ARN-VHC negativo y, en ausencia de otra hepatopatía, niveles de ALT normales. Conclusión: en pacientes tratados con interferón pegilado y ribavirina con respuesta viral sostenida la tasa de recurrencia a largo plazo es muy baja.

The clinical effect of the intra-articular injection of an autologous platelet concentrate (APC) in 7 horses with severe joint disease (4 with osteoarthritis and 3 with osteochondrosis) was evaluated. The degree of lameness (DL) and joint effusion (JE) were recorded. Three injections of the APC were performed at two week intervals. Horses were evaluated before each injection and two months after the last treatment. Clinical follow-up was conducted during 1 year. Count of platelets, leucocytes, and determination of transforming growth factor beta 1 (TGF-β1) levels per ml of the APC were performed. A mean of 250 (range: 140-480) x 106platelets, 8.68 (3.3-18) leucocytes x 106, and 12.5 (3-15) ng of TGF-β1per ml of the APC were obtained. No adverse clinical signs resulted from this treatment. Horses treated with APCs showed a clinical improvement in both the DL and JE. The most remarkable improvement was observed 2 months after the last treatment and apparently persisted up until 8 months later. Despite the seemingly positive effects of this substance, the clinical use of APCs cannot be recommended until further studies with higher number of cases and longer follow up can be undertaken. &nbsp, Se evaluó el efecto clínico de la inyección intraarticular de un concentrado autólogo de plaquetas (APC) en 7 caballos con enfermedad articular grave (4 con osteoartritis y 3 con osteocondrosis). Se documentó el grado de cojera (GC) y distensión articular (DA). Se aplicaron tres inyecciones de APCs con un intervalo de dos semanas entre cada aplicación. Los caballos fueron evaluados antes de cada inyección y dos meses después del último tratamiento. Se realizó seguimiento clínico durante un año. Se determinaron los niveles de plaquetas y leucocitos y los niveles de factor de crecimiento transformante beta 1 (TGF-β1) por ml de APC. El APC preparado presentó un promedio de 250 (rango: 140-480) x 106plaquetas y 8,68 (3,3-18) x 106leucocitos por y 12,5 (3-15) ng de TGF-β1La inyección de los APCs produjo una mejoría clínica en el GC y DA. La mejoría más marcada se observó dos meses después del último tratamiento y persistió durante ocho meses posinyección. No se observaron signos clínicos adversos significativos asociados al tratamiento. A pesar de los efectos aparentemente positivos del APC no se puede recomendar el uso de esa sustancia, hasta que no haya un suficiente número de casos clínicos preferiblemente evaluados mediante un estudio doble ciego controlado. &nbsp

The efficacy of an autologous platelet concentrate (APC) in 5 horses with soft tissue musculoskeletal injuries namely: superficial digital flexor tendon (SDFT) tendinopathy and suspensory ligament desmopathy (DSL), was evaluated. Initial degree of lameness, flexion test response, ultrasonographic images and long term (1 year) clinical follow-up were documented. Three injections of APC were performed at two week intervals. Horses were evaluated before each injection, two months after the last treatment and one year after. Platelet counts, white blood cell counts and determination of TGF-β1levels per ml of APC were performed. Two horses had acute SDFT tendinopathy, 1 had chronic forelimb proximal desmitis (PD) of the suspensory ligament (PDSL), 2 had chronic hindlimb PDSL, and 1 of them also had desmitis of the medial branch of the suspensory ligament of the right hindlimb. All the horses in this study presented a clinical decrease of degree of lameness and response to flexion test, two months after last APC treatment. Ultrasound appearance improved in the horses with SDFT lesions, but remained the same in the horses with DSL. All the horses returned successfully to competition without reinjury. Means of 250 ± 71.8 x 106platelets, 8.68 ± 3.78 leucocytes x 106, and 12.5 ± 2.4 ng of TGF-β1per 1 ml of the PC were obtained. &nbsp, Se evaluó la eficacia de un concentrado autólogo de plaquetas (APC) en cinco caballos con lesiones de tejidos blandos del aparato locomotor, tales como tendinopatía del tendón flexor digital superficial (SDFT) y desmopatía del ligamento suspensorio (DSL). Se documentaron el grado inicial de cojera, la repuesta a la prueba de flexión, las imágenes ecográficas y un seguimiento clínico a largo término. Se aplicaron tres inyecciones con un intervalo entre inyección de dos semanas. Los caballos fueron evaluados antes de cada inyección, dos meses después del último tratamiento y un año después. El número de plaquetas, leucocitos y los niveles de TGF-β1fueron determinados en cada APC. Dos pacientes presentaron tendinopatía aguda del SDFT, un caballo tenía desmitis crónica proximal del ligamento suspensorio (PDSL) de ambos miembros anteriores, dos caballos tenían PDSL de ambos miembros posteriores; de estos pacientes uno tenía desmitis de la rama medialde ligamento suspensorio del miembro posterior izquierdo. Todos los caballos de este reporte presentaron una disminución clínica del grado de cojera y respuesta a la prueba de flexión dos meses después del último tratamiento. La apariencia ecográfica mejoró en los caballos con tendinopatía del SDFT, pero permaneció similar en los caballos con PDSL Los caballos con tendinopatía aguda del SDFT regresaron exitosamente a su nivel de competición sin recidiva. Los caballos con PDSL tanto de las extremidades anteriores como posteriores regresaron exitosamente a su nivel de competición sin recidiva. Por cada ml de APC se obtuvo un promedio de 250 ± 71,8 x 106plaquetas, 8,68 ± 3,78 leucocitos x 106y 12,5 ± 2,4 ng de TGF-β1. &nbsp

The aim of this study was to evaluate single and double centrifugation tube methods for concentrating equine platelets, leucocytes, transforming growth factor beta-3 (TGF-ß3) and nitric oxide (NO). Whole blood samples were collected from clinically healthy horses and processed using single and double centrifugation tube methods to obtain four platelet concentrates (PCs): PC-A, PC-B, PC-C and PC-D, which were analyzed using a flow cytometry hematology system for haemogram. Concentrations of TGF-ß3were determined in all the samples by ELISA and NO levels were determined by Greiss reaction. Platelet and leukocyte concentrations for each PC and whole blood were statistically different (P < 0.05). Levels of TGF-ß3and NO for each PC and plasma were similar. In conclusion, the single and double centrifugation tube methods are reliable for concentrating equine platelets. However, TGF-ß3levels do not depend of the number of platelets or leucocytes concentrated with both centrifugation tube procedures. &nbsp, El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar el método de centrifugado simple y doble en tubo para concentrar plaquetas, leucocitos, factor de crecimiento transformante beta-3 (TGF-ß3) y óxido nítrico (NO). Se recogieron muestras de sangre entera de caballos clínicamente normales, las cuales fueron procesadas por medio del método de centrifugado simple y doble en tubo para obtener 4 concentrados de plaquetas (PCs): PC-A,PC-B, PC-C y PC-D. Los PCs y la sangre entera fueron analizados para hemograma mediante un sistema hematológico de citometría de flujo. Las concentraciones de TGF-ß3fueron analizadas mediante ELISA y el NO mediante la reacción de Greiss. Las concentraciones de plaquetas y leucocitos fueron estadísticamente diferentes (P < 0,05) para cada PC y sangre entera. Los niveles de TGF-ß3y NO fueron similares para cada PC y sangre entera. En conclusión, el método de centrifugado simple y doble en tubo es un procedimiento de confianza para concentrar plaquetas en el caballo. Sin embargo, los niveles de TGF-ß3y NO no dependen del número de plaquetas o de leucocitos concentrados con esta técnica. &nbsp
