Human rights issues, specifically concerning labor conditions in the supply chain, have come under increased scrutiny due to legislation, media, and campaigns by NGO's. Despite recent attention from government, businesses, and scholars, modern slavery across supply chains continues to grow at an alarming rate globally. Thereby, to address this wicked problem, our research is aimed at understanding how managers organize these challenging risks contingent upon perceived organizational goals within a high-risk sector; namely, the construction industry in Australia. Through the lens of regulatory focus theory, we conducted and analyzed 32 in-depth interviews across five major construction firms and fourteen respective suppliers. This research offers insights into supply chain transparency problems and the associated risks of harm to people, providing recommendations for how to analyze and prioritize solutions for mitigating modern slavery challenges and risks. Supplier sustainability risks (SSRs), such as human rights violations, continue to prevail at supplier locations globally. When considering how buying firm managers respond to these complex issues, moral disengagement is potentially a major underlying behavioral mechanism behind inaction toward SSRs. Moral disengagement has been shown to facilitate unethical decisions; and likewise, that men are more prone to moral disengagement compared to women. However, less is known regarding how to mitigate the negative effects of moral disengagement, particularly regarding SSRs. In addition to testing the role of moral disengagement in buyers' decisions toward SSRs, our goal in this study is to employ mechanisms known as nudges, which are behavioral change interventions aimed at producing socially desirable outcomes, in attempts to mitigate the unethical behavior associated with moral disengagement. We adopt two types of nudges, a text-based nudge outlining moral disengagement and a visual nudge showing affected workers in our proposed scenario. Using controlled behavioral experiments across two separate studies with a total sample of 314 participants, we find evidence for moral disengagement explaining supplier retainment tendencies and that men are more prone to retain suppliers in the presence of SSRs compared to women. We also find that while text-based nudges are a more effective tool for reducing the effects of moral disengagement on supplier retainment decisions, visual nudges are particularly more effective on men. Despite an overall positive discourse of blockchains in academic literature, organizations face difficulties in implementing blockchain in supply chains as with the recent case of discontinuation of TradeLens, a blockchain platform co-developed between IBM and Maersk, has shown. This has prompted the current paper to look more critically into the implementation of blockchains in supply chains. We conduct a critical discourse analysis of academic publications while focusing on buyer-supplier relationships and power asymmetries in such relationships impacting adoption of blockchains. Based on textual, discursive, and contextual analyses, we identified that this discourse is determined by positive sentiments while mainly talking about blockchain's positive impacts on supply chain efficiency, food and drug safety, and sustainability. However, these benefits are reached by reinforcing the power of large multinational companies over small and medium-sized enterprise suppliers. We propose that the adoption of blockchain technology under the consideration of inter-organizational justice would stimulate a more beneficial distribution among supply chain members. Research in Operations and Supply Chain Management (OSCM) field is widespread and applied to various sectors of industry and services. Despite its benefits, the diversity of the worldviews of OSCM research applications and the preferences regarding the choice of methodologies by the researchers sometimes cause unnecessary complexities in converging these efforts toward advancing theory and practice. It has been argued that the application of multi-methods could facilitate obtaining a common ground through which OSCM researchers could make more effective and robust contributions in binding theory and practice. There is, however, a lack of a unifying research methodology so that OSCM research could effectively link between theory and practice and move toward more coherence of research in the OSCM field. In this article, we introduce the application of design science research methodology and the use of multi-methods approach in this methodology to draw a road map for more coherent future research attempts in the domain of OSCM. As an example, the behavioral causes of the bullwhip effect are examined and illustration is made on how the dispersed but growing research efforts in this area could be aligned into drawing a behavioral theory of the ordering preferences of decision makers in supply chains and in organizations. A supply chain triad is increasingly regarded as a unit of analysis of complex supply chain networks, allowing the realization of properties such as certain risks manifesting at the level of supply chain networks, and which are not necessarily observed at the level of supply chain dyads or individual supply chain partners. This study investigates a type of supply chain triad - service triads - and explores cross- organizational pathways according to which risks can emerge and propagate within such triadic structures. The aim of the study is to design an analytical model with the view to facilitate the assessment of vulnerability in service triads according to the aforementioned cross-organizational pathways of risk emergence and propagation. Using graph theory, a range of service triad reference models are developed, which formalize the typology and direction of the relationships between members of the supply chain triad. Adopting the notion of matrix permanent allows calculating the vulnerability levels of distinct service triad models, accounting for the formalized typology and direction of the relationships within the models. A case study in a corporate bonds context is conducted to illustrate the applicability of the proposed approach to vulnerability assessment in the service industry context. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The number of companies that encourage their employees to take part in corporate social responsibility (CSR) via corporate volunteering (CV) is ever-growing. However, understanding employee motivation to participate in CV, and furthermore, the role such motivation plays in developing positive workplace attitudes among employees remains relatively unexplored. Borrowing from the existing literature and self-determination theory, we examine how intrinsic and extrinsic motivations for CV affect positive workplace attitudes among employees. Drawing from a survey of 1076 Australian employees who participated in CV, we show that intrinsic motivation behind CV has a positive relationship with affective commitment. Examining the indirect effects; however, reveals that intrinsic and extrinsic motivation moderate the relationship between CSR attitudes and the aforementioned outcomes differently. These findings contribute to the understanding of SDT, work motivation, CSR, CV, and motivation to participate in CV--providing implications for increasing participation in CSR and CV among employees.
