In this work, we synthesized non-noble metal-oxides (Mn0.25Ni0.75O) through simple controlled hydrothermal followed by annealing technology. The Mn0.25Ni0.75O electrocatalyst shows superior electrocatalytic performance of OER/HER and overall water-splitting in both the alkaline and seawater-blend alkaline electrolytes with lower overpotentials concerning current densities.

GdMnO2/Ni(OH)2composite nanorods and Fe3O4/GO was synthesized and used as electrode material for all-solid-state supercapacitor, which exhibited superior capacitance and energy density.

Construction of a high energy density electrode for supercapacitors is crucial, but balance between stable structure and efficient electron transfer is still ambiguous. In this work, a metal organic framework (MOFs) derived leaf like hierarchical ternary layered double hydroxide (ZnNiCo-LDH) was integrated with the in-situ grown copper oxide (CuxO) nanowire arrayed on Cu-foam. In the ZnNiCo-LDH/CuO-Cu, integrated two sheet-wire components could mediate the large surface electronic structure to improve intrinsic charge transport and offer more abundant electroactive sites for redox reaction. The ZnNiCo-LDH/CuO-Cu exhibited a high specific capacity of 378.10 mA h g−1at 1 A g−1, remarkable rate capability and outstanding cyclic stability, superior to CuO-Cu. The admirable electrochemical performance of the ZnNiCo-LDH/CuO-Cu can be attributed to the distinctive CuO nanowires grown on conductive substrate and strong synergistic effects of zinc, cobalt, and nickel ions. Furthermore, an asymmetric supercapacitor (ASCs) device was assembled with ZnNiCo-LDH/CuO-Cu cathodes and MOFs derived N-CNT as anode, which delivered high energy density of 117.5 Wh kg−1at the power density 576.9 W kg−1and excellent stability; this outperforms favorably with analogous supercapacitors. It is anticipated that the rational design of ZnNiCo-LDH/CuO-Cu will endow new possibilities for the rational design of highly functional MOFs derivatives in the field of energy storage.

The critical challenge of supercapacitors lies in sluggish kinetics of electrodes and undesirable specific capacitance during charge discharge process including large volume change and inferior cyclic stability. In this work an elaborately designed three dimensional hierarchical heterostructure comprising ternary metal sulfides completely covered by nickel cobalt layered double hydroxide (NiCo-LDH@ZNCS) core shell arrays on electrospun three-dimensional hollow porous carbon nanofiber and used as free-standing electrode material for supercapacitors. The original built-in interfacial potential between NiCo-LDH and ZNCS on conducting three dimensional hollow PCF can acquire multidimensional channels for ion/electron transfer and validate to be a highly capacitive cathode material with a high specific capacity of 407.11 mA h g−1at the current density of 1 mA cm−2maintaining outstanding rate performance. The iron oxide nanorods (Fe2O3-PCF) anode (216.15 mA h g−1at the current density of 1 mA cm−2) match well to the cathode. Benefiting from the powerful synergistic effect, the assembled quasi solid state asymmetric supercapacitor can deliver ultrahigh energy density of 111.72 W h kg−1at a power density of 243 W kg−1and extra ordinary life cycle stability (95.2 % capacity retention after 20,000 charge discharge cycles). Such superior electrochemical performances are attributed to the multidimensional nanostructures, porous carbon networks, improved conductivity, and synergistic interaction between the active components of NiCo-LDH/ZNCS arrays. This approach provides a new perspective for rational design of high energy density hybrid supercapacitors, holding unbounded possibilities in this energy dependent world.

•Mn doped Tungstate disulfide (Mn-WS2) microcones is prepared by simple hydrothermal method.•Mn-WS2exhibited unique morphology and presents high capacitive performance than pure WS2.•The Mn-WS2microcones exhibits high specific capacity of 107.79 mA h g−1and showed a rate capability of 75.18% at 20 a g−1.•As all solid state asymmetric supercapacitor device (Mn-WS2//PVA-KOH//GO/Fe3O4) delivered impressive specific energy 75.65 w h kg−1at 997.41 w kg−1.

•The unique CuO/MoS2heterostructure was synthesized by facile hydrothermal method.•CuO/MoS2heterostructure attains the maximum specific capacitance of 268 F/g at 1 A/g.•CuO/MoS2//BAC asymmetric supercapacitor delivers high specific energy of 26.66 W h /kg.

•Effective supercapacitor electrode material Ag@MoS2/WO3was synthesized and used as supercapacitor electrode.•Ag@MoS2/WO3showed superior charge storage capacity than individual component.•Ag@MoS2/WO3delivered specific capacity of 95.61 mA h g−1at 1 A g−1and specific energy of 19.63 W h kg−1.

The kinetics of most proteins involved in DNA damage sensing, signaling and repair following ionizing radiation exposure cannot be quantified by current live cell fluorescence microscopy methods. This is because most of these proteins, with only few notable exceptions, do not attach in large numbers at DNA damage sites to form easily detectable foci in microscopy images. As a result a high fluorescence background from freely moving and immobile fluorescent proteins in the nucleus masks the aggregation of proteins at sparse DNA damage sites. Currently, the kinetics of these repair proteins are studied by laser-induced damage and Fluorescence Recovery After Photobleaching that rely on the detectability of high fluorescence intensity spots of clustered DNA damage. We report on the use of Number and Brightness (N&B) analysis methods as a means to monitor kinetics of DNA repair proteins during sparse DNA damage created by -irradiation, which is more relevant to cancer treatment than laser-induced clustered damage. We use two key double strand break repair proteins, namely Ku 70/80 and the DNA-dependent protein kinase catalytic subunit (DNA-PKCS), as specific examples to showcase the feasibility of the proposed methods to quantify dose-dependent kinetics for DNA repair proteins after exposure to -rays.
