Background: Awareness towards the maternal condition has great potential to reduce occur­rence of life threatening maternal and child illness. Hence, this study aimed to find out the awareness and attitude regarding obstetric fistula among married women. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was used to find out the awareness and attitude re­garding obstetric fistula among 206 married women. Data were collected by using semi structured interview schedule and Likert Scale. Analysis was done by using descriptive statistics. Results: The age range of the respondents was 15-79 years. Among literate 163, 34.4% attended general education, 75% were married at the age of 15-19 years, 50% had their first baby at the age of 15-19 years, 65.0 % had 1-3 babies, 66.0% had home delivery and postnatal visit was 9.5%. In this study 0.9% respondents were found with obstetric fistula and 60.2% had low level of aware­ness. Regarding the level of attitude, 50.0% had positive attitude. Conclusions: The finding concluded that there is low level of awareness and fifty percentages had negative attitude regarding obstetric fistula among married women so there is need of intervn­tional awareness program in community.

Aim: Mothers knowledge and attitude toward childhood vaccination influence uptake is the most adequate tool and preventive aspects to infectious disease epidemics. The present study assesses and measures knowledge and attitude of postnatal mothers toward vaccination. Methods and results: The present study adopted a cross-sectional study design, whereby 200 postnatal mothers were identified during their postnatal visit to clinics. The subjects were accessed using questionnaire to assess the level of knowledge and attitude of mothers regarding vaccination. The objectives were to study the level of knowledge, the attitude, and to find the association between knowledge and attitude of the study subjects. The data were analyzed using SPSS version 16. The results was analyzed through chi-square test. The association between age (p = .031), education (p = .021), occupation (p = .013), and knowledge score toward vaccination was found to be statistically significant. However, ethnicity (p = .127), employment (p = .197), and mode of delivery (p = .750) toward mothers vaccination knowledge were not significant for the study. Mothers education, age, and occupation were found to be associated with attitude toward childhood vaccination. No association was found between ethnicity, employment, and mode of delivery with attitude of childhood vaccination. Conclusion: More than half of the studied mothers had good knowledge scores on vaccination, more than two-thirds of the studied mothers had good attitude scores on vaccination. However, the religious misconception and fear of autism was the main cause of vaccine resistance in Malaysia.

Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) is the health development success indicator of the health sector. In 2012 there were 43 maternal deaths with 18 deaths in the puerperium Palembang District. Postpartum maternal deaths could prevented by doing postnatal service. Based on data from Palembang District Health Office in 2016 coverage postpartum mothers in Nagaswidak Community Health Center 72,74% lower than target of 97% and even from year to year undergo a decline. This study aims to analyze related factors of postnatal visit in Nagaswidak community health center of Palembang. This study is analytic with cross sectional design. Maternal And Child Health-Book, Women's Knowledge, Postnatal Visit . In 2015, the national coverage of postnatal visit only reached 87.06% of the target 95%. The mother’s and child’s health book (MCH book) contains comprehensive medical records and information, including postpartum care. If the KIA's book material is read and understood by the mother, her knowledge will increasing, so we can expect her to be willing to do the postpartum visit according to the government’s program. This research aimed to learn about the correlation between postnatal woman’s knowledge on postnatal services and her postnatal visit regularity. Design used was correlational study with cross sectional approach. The population was all post-natal women who have MCH book at a private midwife practice in May - June 2017 of total 35 women. Samples taken by simple random technique. Data collection tool used was questionnaire and MCH book. The result showed that a small amount of respondents with good knowledge about postnatal care (28,1%) done postpartum visit in accordance with the government’s program. Women with less knowledge level (18,8%), few of them (3.1%) made postnatal visits in accordance with the program. Chi-square analysis obtained ρ value (0.001) that means less than α (0,05), so the null hypothesis rejected. Hence, there was correlation between postnatal woman’s knowledge on postnatal services and her postnatal visit regularity. The results of the study said that most of the well-informed women about postnatal services will do postpartum visits according to government programs. Postpartum women need to be motivated to read postpartum care materials in maternal and child health-book. In London, it is estimated that about 10% of women deliver in one NHS trust but receive postnatal care in another area. Transfer of postnatal information about women and babies is done via fax. A more reliable method of communication was needed. A pilot project, the Secure Transfer of Women (STOW), was undertaken in four NHS trusts in north London to test the transfer of postnatal information via email, using NHSmail between the maternity units. Communication with other NHS trusts would continue via fax. Training and IT support was provided in the pilot NHS trusts. An evaluative study undertaken showed that members of staff liked the system. They felt that email transfer improved the service for mothers and babies. Maternity units also received fewer calls from mothers to say that they had not yet had their postnatal visit. Postnatal transfer of information via email is now being rolled out across London.

The teenage pregnancy clinic was set up over 10 years ago in Liverpool by an innovative midwife, Lorna Wood, with the support of a consultant obstetrician. The pregnant teenager’s journey begins at the booking in visit, continuing throughout antenatal care and ends at the postnatal visit, approximately 6 weeks after the birth. The article highlights the importance of the careful, accurate assessment of each individual in order to provide an optimum, flexible plan of care for both mother and baby. The success of the clinic can be measured in many ways, not least the very low rate of non-attendance. The outcomes are good and the rate of repeat pregnancies is low (less than 3% each year). This is in part owing to the provision of contraception at the postnatal visit and continuity of care throughout by the two midwives involved.

Introducción: desde el momento en que el recién nacido es dado de alta de la maternidad hasta que es atendido en su centro de salud (CS) pasa un periodo de tiempo crucial y, a veces, excesivamente prolongado. Objetivo: conocer la edad en que son atendidos por primera vez los recién nacidos en Atención Primaria (AP) en la Comunidad Valenciana. Material y métodos: encuesta dirigida a los pediatras de AP. Resultados: participaron 46 CS de las provincias de Castellón y Valencia (de un total de 162 centros). Se declararon datos de 248 recién nacidos durante el periodo del 9 de abril al 30 de junio del año 2013. El 58% de los recién nacidos fueron vistos por primera vez en su CS a partir del quinto día de vida. Los niños nacidos en un hospital público tienen casi dos veces más probabilidades de acudir al CS antes de los seis días de vida que los niños nacidos en un hospital privado (odds ratio [OR]: 1,97; intervalo de confianza del 95% [IC 95%]: 0,92 a 4,1; p=0,07). El 56,93% de las lactancias maternas y mixtas fueron vistas después del quinto día de vida. El 24,2% de los casos estudiados no tenía la tarjeta de asistencia sanitaria (TAS) al salir de la maternidad. La mayoría de los niños nacidos en maternidades privadas no tenía la TAS al alta, requisito imprescindible para solicitar cita en su CS. Introduction: a critical period of time, sometimes too long, passes since healthy term infants are discharged from hospital until they are visited at primary care practices. Objective: to assess the age after birth when healthy term infants are first checked at primary care practices in Comunitat Valenciana. Material and methods: survey of primary care pediatricians from Comunitat Valenciana. Results: Forty-six Primary Care Practices participated in the provinces of Castellón and Valencia (from a total of 162 practices). Data from 248 term infants from April 9th to June 30th 2013 were collected. Fifty-eight percent of the infants were first seen after the fifth day of life. Children born in a public hospital are almost twice as much likely to be visited before 6 days of life than children born in a private hospital (odds ratio [OR]: 1.97, 95% CI: 0.92 to 4.1, p = 0.07). Exclusive breastfeeding and mixed feeding were seen after the fifth day of life in 56.93%. No health insurance card at discharge (most of children born in a private maternity), essential to make an appointment, was observed in 24.2% of the cases studied. Conclusions: since the time healthy term infants are discharged from hospital until they are first visited by the pediatric-nurse team, a too long critical period passes.

to describe midwives' reflections on counselling women at the postnatal check with special focus on sexual life after childbirth.qualitative descriptive study with focus group discussions as the method of data collection.antenatal clinics in Stockholm greater catchments' area.during 2006 and 2007, a voluntary sample of midwives from 10 different antenatal clinics were invited.content analysis was undertaken through identification of codes, categories and themes.Two themes emerged: balancing between personal perceptions of the woman's needs and the health system restrictions and strategies for counselling about sexual life after childbirth'. The midwives tried to create a picture for themselves of the woman coming for the postnatal check and her needs before the consultation. This picture guided the midwives, but lack of time and knowledge restricted them when counselling on sexual life after childbirth. Two different strategies in counselling were identified, one task-oriented and one subject-oriented. Demands and time restrictions led midwives to distance themselves from their clients. A task-oriented approach was more visible in midwives' encounters with foreign-born women, where linguistic difficulties, cultural diversity and narrow time frames restricted the midwives' effectiveness and/or sensitivity as caregivers. In contrast, the subject-oriented strategy meant 'getting in tune', i.e. listening to the woman when she expressed her feelings and emotions, encouraging the woman to be an active participant in decisions involving her care. This strategy is used for women who arouse midwives' empathy and when there is some form of recognition and understanding.The picture created of the woman and her needs guided the midwives, but lack of knowledge and time limitations restricted counselling on sexual life after childbirth. Two counselling strategies were identified, one task-oriented and one subject-oriented. Balancing these two counselling strategies improves both the ethical aspects and the quality of the counselling.

An important part of the management of women with gestational diabetes (GD) is their subsequent follow-up after delivery. At this postnatal visit a glucose tolerance test (GTT) is essential. We have analysed the results of the postnatal GTT's in 2,957 women whose pregnancies were complicated by GD. Diabetes mellitus was diagnosed in 59 women (2.0%) in the first 6 months after delivery. As stated in Part 1 of this paper, 31 of these 59 women may have had unrecognized prepregnancy diabetes mellitus. The significant independent predictors of postnatal diabetes mellitus on logistic regression analysis in these women were severity of GD, Asian origin and the 1-hour plasma glucose level during the antenatal GTT.

Objective The multi-disciplinary bereavement team focuses on all aspects of care including emotional, medical and spiritual, in accordance with international evidence-based practise. While there are universal commonalities in the pain of grief involved in stillbirth, we wished to refine our practise based on the needs of our specific patient group. We surveyed bereaved parents from 2011 to discover how they felt about the care they received and to look for their views on the bereavement team. Study design Parents were contacted to explain the objectives of the survey and to obtain their consent. Two copies were then sent to each home, one for each partner. Results In total 36 completed questionnaires were returned: 21/29 mothers, 15/28 fathers. Only 38% of respondents strongly agreed that on diagnosis they received written information or contact support. While most felt that they were facilitated in spending high quality precious time with their baby, not all felt this need was met on the labour ward. The majority, 90%, of parents felt post-mortem was explained sensitively but not always clearly. Only 47% of parents met their consultant during their inpatient care, and half felt they did not have a timely postnatal visit to meet a consultant. All parents said that “kindness and sensitivity of staff” was a vital aspect of their care. Discussion These findings identify routes for modifying the care we provide. Prioritising our bereaved parents’ views supports and expands an open culture, in which we empower our parents in their continuing grieving process.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of infant massage for 28 days after delivery on mothers’ mood status. Study participants were mothers who delivered their Infants at a hospital in shahrekord, Iran, and were recruited at the time of the routine 15–20 days postnatal visit to the pediatric office. 120 mothers were randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. 60 mothers in the experimental group were examined before the first day of the baby massage, and 2 months after delivery. The psychological measurements used were profile of mood states. The result revealed that significant differences in the POMS score were seen in depression and vigor between the two groups at 2 months. Infant massage was found to positively affect the mood status of the mothers. We propose that midwives and other health-care professionals should recommend mothers to do infant massage to improve their own mood status.

Dr DALEY: Ms B is a 17-year-old student and mother of a 3-year-old daughter who desires to avoid pregnancy. She lives in Boston with her mother and attends a high school program for students with children. Her health care insurance is through the Massachusetts Medicaid program. Ms B became sexually active at 12 years of age and presented to her primary care physician, Dr J, within 2 months of becoming sexually active requesting contraception. A combination oral contraceptive (norethindrone [1 mg] and ethinyl estradiol [35 μg]) was prescribed. At age 13, the patient became pregnant and had an uneventful pregnancy resulting in the birth of a healthy daughter. At the first postnatal visit, the patient reported being sexually active and was not using contraception. The same oral contraceptive was again prescribed, which the patient used for only 2 months.
