Over the past decades, surgical techniques have been improved, aimed at restoring the position of the nasal septum in case of its deformities. The attitude to the technique of the operation itself has changed, which consists in a sparing approach to the osteochondral skeleton of the nasal septum (NS). It should be noted that to date, the histological features of the mucous membrane (MM) of NS have not been studied with pronounced curvatures of PN, in this regard, the purpose of our work was to conduct a histological study of the MM of NS and to identify the morphological features of the structure of mucoperichondria in the area of septal deformity. Research methods. Our study included 24 patients with nasal septum deviation (NSD) and concomitant vasomotor or hypertrophic rhinitis. All patients noted impaired nasal breathing. 12 men and women were examined, the average age of the patients was 36 ± 10 years. Patients with grade III of NSD according to the classification of Protasevich were examined and operated on. We analyzed the material taken from 5 loci of the MM of NS. A total of 120 histological sections were examined. When describing histological findings from loci A-E, we were guided by the frequency of occurrence of criteria indicating the severity of irreversible post-traumatic changes in MM of NS. After analyzing the material obtained and carrying out a comparative analysis of the frequency of occurrence of histological findings in each locus, we concluded that the proximity of the locus to the most deformed part of the nasal septum is characterized by the maximum severity of dystrophic and sclerotic changes in the MM of NS, similar to the histological picture of a hypertrophic scar.

Introducción: Las secuelas postraumáticas de la tibia representan un problema común al que nos enfrentamos los ortopedistas día a día. El método Ilizarov, mediante una planificación minuciosa, ha dado grandes resultados. Objetivo: Valorar el resultado del tratamiento de desejes y discrepancias postraumáticas de la tibia mediante el fijador circular de tipo Ilizarov. Materiales y Métodos: Se evaluó a 13 pacientes mediante criterios clínicos y radiográficos durante un seguimiento mínimo de 24 meses. Los resultados fueron buenos y excelentes, y se logró la consolidación ósea en todos los pacientes. Conclusión: El método Ilizarov es útil y versátil para resolver cualquier tipo de secuela postraumática de la tibia, sin necesidad de injertos o sustitutos óseos. ABSTRACT Introduction: Posttraumatic sequelae of the tibia is a common problem faced by orthopedics every day. The Ilizarov method, through careful planning, has achieved great results. Objective: To assess the outcome of the treatment of desires and posttraumatic discrepancies of the tibia treated with the circular fixator of the Ilizarov type. Materials and Methods: 13 patients were evaluated by clinical and radiographic criteria during a minimum follow-up of 24 months. The results were good and excellent in all cases, and bone consolidation was achieved in all patients. Conclusion: The Ilizarov method is useful and versatile to solve any type of post-traumatic sequelae of the tibia, without the need for grafts or bone substitutes.

Presence of head injury in patients with maxillofacial trauma is a potentially life threatening condition. Frontal bone injuries are uncommon but significant and may appear with facial deformation and impaired aesthetics. Bicoronal approach provides excellent surgical access for frontal bone reconstruction with a very low rate of morbidity. This paper present two cases of posttraumatic frontal bone deformity treated with bicoronal approach.

La deformidad facial posterior al trauma como secuela de una fractura compleja o una fractura mal manejada es una situacion poco frecuente y representa un reto para los profesionales de la salud que tratan el area facial. Su tratamiento inicia con una interpretacion de imagenes radiograficas previa y posterior al trauma, valoracion clinica y medicion de modelos de estudio. El objetivo del tratamiento esta dirigido a recuperar la funcion, estetica y en la correccion de la secuela facial. El plan de tratamiento puede ser ortodontico, quirurgico, rehabilitacion o una combinacion entre ellos. Se han descrito multiples procedimientos para la correccion de la deformidad maxilar. Las tecnicas mas comunes son osteotomias a nivel de cuerpo, rama y procesos alveolares. Este articulo presenta el caso de un paciente con deformidad alveolar mandibular derecha como secuela de un manejo inadecuado del trauma facial tratado mediante osteotomia segmentaria subapical con liberacion de la cortical para movilizacion del nervio dentario.

Post-trauma deformity after a complex trauma fracture or mishandle is not an often situation and represents a challenge for healthprofessionals who treat the facial area. Treatment begins with a preand post-trauma radiographic interpretation, clinical assessment and measurement of study models. The aim of treatment is to recover function, aesthetics and correction of the facial sequel. The treatment plan for this condition may be orthodontic, surgical, rehabilitation or a combination of these. Several surgical techniques to correct maxillary deformities have been described. The most common osteotomies are at body, ramus and alveolar level. This article presents the case of a patient with right alveolar mandibular deformity as a consequence of an inadequate management of facial trauma re-treated with a subapical segmental osteotomy and cortical release to move the alveolar nerve.

Objectives: To evaluate thoracolumbar fractures and the complications such as adjacent disc degeneration (ADD) and post-traumatic deformity. Methods: We evaluated 32 patients divided into two equal groups, 16 in the case group (removal of the synthesis material) and 16 in the control group (not submitted to removal of the synthesis material) in order to verify if there was difference between the incidence of these complications. Results: There were no statistically significant differences between the groups regarding the progression of the ADD and the post-traumatic deformity, but both progressed during the 2-year follow-up. Conclusion: It was concluded that the removal of the synthesis material was not effective in preventing these complications after surgical fractures of the thoracolumbar spine. RESUMO Objetivo: Avaliar fraturas toracolombares e complicações como a degeneração do disco adjacente (DDA) e a deformidade pós-traumática. Métodos: Avaliaram-se 32 pacientes que foram divididos em dois grupos iguais, sendo 16 no grupo caso (retiraram o material de síntese) e 16 no grupo controle (não foram submetidos à retirada do material de síntese) com o objetivo de verificar se houve diferença entre a incidência dessas complicações. Resultados: Não foram encontradas diferenças estatisticamente significativas entre os grupos quanto à progressão da DDA e à deformidade pós-traumática, porém ambas progrediram durante o seguimento de 2 anos. Conclusão: Conclui-se que a retirada do material de síntese não foi eficaz na prevenção dessas complicações após fraturas da coluna toracolombar. Because of their complexity, war injuries inflicted by blast mechanism often require tailoring of treatment to attain a more individualized solution. We report a case of paediatric patient who suffered from severe complication after a blast injury to the lower limb with extensive tissue damage and loss.

Faciomaxillary injuries remain one of the common injuries managed by plastic surgeons. The goal of treatment in these injuries is the three-dimensional restoration of the disturbed anatomy so as to achieve pre-injury form and function. In this article, the authors review the anatomic, diagnostic and management considerations to optimise results and minimise the late post-traumatic deformities. Most of the adverse outcomes are usually a result of poorly addressed underlying structural injury during the primary management. An accurate physical examination combined with detailed computed tomographic scanning of the craniofacial skeleton is required to generate an appropriate treatment plan. This organised approach has proven effective in restoring the injured structures to pre-injury status. Multiple clinical cases are used to illustrate the different fracture patterns along with various surgical techniques to achieve an acceptable outcome. Early diagnosis and timely management of complications in these complex injuries is also discussed.

Background and aim. Dorsal augmentation of the nose is needed after trauma, rhinoplasty or for ethnic reasons. Alloplastic or autogenous materials may be used. In this paper, postauricular mastoid fascia was used for dorsal nasal augmentation. Methods. This study included ten patients who underwent dorsal nasal augmentation. Fascia over mastoid area was taken in all cases and was fixed with Steri-Strips and external nasal splints. Results. All patients were female except one case. Five patients had the operation because of ethnic causes and five patients did the operation due to post traumatic deformity. Donor sites healed uneventfully. Digital photography was taken to assess the grafts and follow up was extended up to 9 months. Conclusions. Mastoid fascia is a reliable method and its donor site is hidden. In addition, it can be a potential site for conchal graft if needed.

We describe delayed treatment of a post-traumatic fracture of the anterior table of the frontal sinus with a titanium mesh using an endoscopic approach. To our knowledge this is the first case of a delayed post-traumatic deformity of the anterior table being treated by this method.

Proper patient selection, meticulous preoperative planning, and precise surgical technique are all necessary for a successful outcome following osteotomy of the distal radius. The patients should be young, manually active, and motivated. Radiocarpal post-traumatic arthritis or dystrophy are contraindications to this procedure.
