Abstract

Commit messages aid developers in their understanding of a continuously evolving codebase. However, developers not always document code changes properly. Automatically generating commit messages would relieve this burden on developers. Recently, a number of different works have demonstrated the feasibility of using methods from neural machine translation to generate commit messages. This work aims to reproduce a prominent research paper in this field, as well as attempt to improve upon their results by proposing a novel preprocessing technique. A reproduction of the reference neural machine translation model was able to achieve slightly better results on the same dataset. When applying more rigorous preprocessing, however, the performance dropped significantly. This demonstrates the inherent shortcoming of current commit message generation models, which perform well by memorizing certain constructs. Future research directions might include improving diff embeddings and focusing on specific groups of commits.

Abstract

The KM3NeT Collaboration runs a multi-site neutrino observatory in the Mediterranean Sea. Water Cherenkov particle detectors, deep in the sea and far off the coasts of France and Italy, are already taking data while incremental construction progresses. Data Acquisition Control software is operating off-shore detectors as well as testing and qualification stations for their components. The software, named Control Unit, is highly modular. It can undergo upgrades and reconfiguration with the acquisition running. Interplay with the central database of the Collaboration is obtained in a way that allows for data taking even if Internet links fail. In order to simplify the management of computing resources in the long term, and to cope with possible hardware failures of one or more computers, the KM3NeT Control Unit software features a custom dynamic resource provisioning and failover technology, which is especially important for ensuring continuity in case of rare transient events in multi-messenger astronomy. The software architecture relies on ubiquitous tools and broadly adopted technologies and has been successfully tested on several operating systems.

Abstract

The KM3NeT research infrastructure being built at the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea will host water-Cherenkov telescopes for the detection of cosmic neutrinos. The neutrino telescopes will consist of large volume three-dimensional grids of optical modules to detect the Cherenkov light from charged particles produced by neutrino-induced interactions. Each optical module houses 31 3-inch photomultiplier tubes, instrumentation for calibration of the photomultiplier signal and positioning of the optical module and all associated electronics boards. By design, the total electrical power consumption of an optical module has been capped at seven watts. This paper presents an overview of the front-end and readout electronics system inside the optical module, which has been designed for a 1~ns synchronization between the clocks of all optical modules in the grid during a life time of at least 20 years., Comment: Prepared submission to Journal of Astronomical Telescopes, Instruments, and Systems (JATIS)

Abstract

KM3NeT is a research infrastructure located in the Mediterranean Sea, that will consist of two deep-sea Cherenkov neutrino detectors. With one detector (ARCA), the KM3NeT Collaboration aims at identifying and studying TeV-PeV astrophysical neutrino sources. With the other detector (ORCA), the neutrino mass ordering will be determined by studying GeV-scale atmospheric neutrino oscillations. The first KM3NeT detection units were deployed at the Italian and French sites between 2015 and 2017. In this paper, a description of the detector is presented, together with a summary of the procedures used to calibrate the detector in-situ. Finally, the measurement of the atmospheric muon flux between 2232-3386 m seawater depth is obtained., Comment: 15 pages, 9 figures

Abstract

KM3NeT will be a network of deep-sea neutrino telescopes in the Mediterranean Sea. The KM3NeT/ARCA detector, to be installed at the Capo Passero site (Italy), is optimised for the detection of high-energy neutrinos of cosmic origin. Thanks to its geographical location on the Northern hemisphere, KM3NeT/ARCA can observe upgoing neutrinos from most of the Galactic Plane, including the Galactic Centre. Given its effective area and excellent pointing resolution, KM3NeT/ARCA will measure or significantly constrain the neutrino flux from potential astrophysical neutrino sources. At the same time, it will test flux predictions based on gamma-ray measurements and the assumption that the gamma-ray flux is of hadronic origin. Assuming this scenario, discovery potentials and sensitivities for a selected list of Galactic sources and to generic point sources with an $E^{-2}$ spectrum are presented. These spectra are assumed to be time independent. The results indicate that an observation with $3\sigma$ significance is possible in about six years of operation for the most intense sources, such as Supernovae Remnants RX\,J1713.7-3946 and Vela Jr. If no signal will be found during this time, the fraction of the gamma-ray flux coming from hadronic processes can be constrained to be below 50\% for these two objects., Comment: 32 pages, 9 figures, submitted to Astroparticle Physics

Abstract

The study of autophagy ('self-eating'), a fundamental cell fate pathway involved in physiological and pathological subcellular processes, opens a new frontier in the continuous search for novel therapies for human asthma. Asthma is a complex syndrome with different disease phenotypes. Autophagy plays a central role in cell physiology, energy and metabolism, and cell survival. Autophagy's hallmark is the formation of double-membrane autophagic autophagosomes, and this process is operational in airway epithelial and mesenchymal cells in asthma. Genetic associations between autophagy genes and asthma have been observed including single nucleotide polymorphisms in Atg5 which correlate with reduced lung function. Immune mechanisms important in asthma such as Th2 cells and eosinophils also manifest autophagy. Lastly, we address the role of autophagy in extracellular matrix deposition and fibrosis in asthmatic airways remodeling, a pathologic process still without effective therapy, and discuss potential pharmacologic inhibitors. We end by offering two opposing but plausible hypotheses as to how autophagy may be directly involved in airway fibrosis.

Abstract

Objective Research comparing bosentan and macitentan in chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) is scarce, although macitentan might have superior pharmacologic properties. We present the first real-world, 2-year follow-up results and compare clinical outcomes of both drugs in CTEPH. Methods All consecutive, technical inoperable or residual CTEPH patients receiving bosentan or macitentan, diagnosed in our multidisciplinary team between January 2003 and January 2019, were included. We report and compare survival, clinical worsening (CW), adverse events, WHO FC, NT-proBNP and 6-min walking test (6MWT) until 2 years after medication initiation. Results In total, 112 patients receiving bosentan or macitentan (58% female, mean age 62 ± 14 years, 68% WHO FC III/IV, 51% bosentan) could be included. Mean treatment duration was 1.9 ± 0.4 years for bosentan and 1.2 ± 0.6 years for macitentan. Two-year survival rate was 91% for bosentan and 80% for macitentan (HR mortality macitentan 1.85 [0.56-6.10], p = 0.31). Two-year CW-free survival was 81% and 58%, respectively (HR CW macitentan 2.16 [0.962-4.87], p = 0.06). Right atrial pressure, cardiac output (for mortality alone) and 6MWT lowest saturation were multivariate predictors at baseline. Overall adverse event rates were comparable and WHO FC, NT-proBNP and 6MWT distance improved similar for both drugs till 2-year follow-up. Conclusion CTEPH patients receiving bosentan or macitentan have improved clinical outcomes till 2-year follow-up, without significant differences in outcomes between both therapies., Author(s): M. C. Abstract

We calculate the spectral function of the omega meson in nuclear matter at zero temperature by means of the low-density theorem. The omega N forward scattering amplitude is calculated within a unitary coupled-channel effective Lagrangian model that has been applied successfully to the combined analysis of pion- and photon-induced reactions. While the peak of the omega spectral distribution is shifted only slightly, we find a considerable broadening of the omega meson due to resonance-hole excitations. Abstract

We report the synthesis and properties of two new insulating phases of SrFeO3-d with introduction of oxygen deficiencies in metallic SrFeO3 ; one with 0.15 < d < 0.19 (sample A)and the other above d = 0.19 (sample B). Sample A shows large negative magnetoresistance around the charged ordering (CO) temperature with magnetic anomalies seen in the temperature dependent resistivity,magnetization and M-H hysteresis loops. Sample B shows a smooth insulating behavior with no thermal hysteresis in the resistivity and with a small positive magnetoresistance. cac and cdc show multiple features associated with a frustrated magnetic order (helical) due to competing ferro- and antiferromagnetic interactions. The competing effects of ferro- and antiferromagnetic phases extend up to T ~ 230 K revealing a new high temperature scale in this system. Abstract

We first briefly review the theoretical basis for calculations of changes of hadronic properties in dense nuclear matter. These changes have usually been investigated by means of relativistic heavy-ion reactions. Here we discuss that observable consequences of such changes can also be seen in more elementary reactions on nuclei. Particular emphasis is put on a discussion of actual observables in photonuclear reactions; we discuss in detail $\eta$- and vector-meson production. We show that photoproduction of $\eta$'s can yield essential information on in-medium properties of the $S_{11}(1535)$ resonance while the $\phi$ meson properties will probably not be accessible through the $K^+K^-$ decay channel. However, for $\omega$ mesons the $\pi^0\gamma$ decay channel, due to its reduced final state interaction, looks more promising in this respect. Completely free of final state interactions is dilepton production in the few GeV range. We show that the sensitivity of this decay channel to changes of hadronic properties in medium in photonuclear reactions on nuclei is as large as in ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions. Finally we discuss that hadron production in nuclei at 10 -- 20 GeV photon energies can give important information on the hadronization process., Comment: Invited Lecture by U. We study the in-medium properties of mesons $(\pi,\eta,\rho)$ and baryon resonances in cold nuclear matter within a coupled-channel analysis. The meson self energies are generated by particle-hole excitations. Thus multi-peak spectra are obtained for the mesonic spectral functions. In turn this leads to medium-modifications of the baryon resonances. Special care is taken to respect the analyticity of the spectral functions and to take into account effects from short-range correlations both for positive and negative parity states. Our model produces sensible results for pion and $\Delta$ dynamics in nuclear matter. We find a strong interplay of the $\rho$ meson and the $D_{13}(1520)$, which moves spectral strength of the $\rho$ spectrum to smaller invariant masses and leads to a broadening of the baryon resonance. The optical potential for the $\eta$ meson resulting from our model is rather attractive whereas the in-medium properties modifications of the $S_{11}(1535)$ are found to be quite small., Comment: 71 pages, 31 figures, accepted for Publication in Nuclear Physics A; minor modifications of the manuscript, several typos corrected

Abstract

We investigate the influence of possible in-medium modifications of the S11(1535) in eta photoproduction in nuclei. Besides Fermi motion, Pauli blocking and binding effects also collisional broadening is accounted for. The in-medium width is obtained from a realistic resonance-hole model. Results on eta photoproduction are obtained from a semi-classical BUU transport model and compared with data. We find that calculations including a momentum dependent nucleon and resonance potential are in agreement with the recent KEK data. Abstract

We investigate the consequences of possible medium modifications of the phi meson at finite nuclear matter density on the K+K- mass distribution in photonuclear reactions. The inclusive cross sections for K+K- pair production are calculated within a semi--classical BUU transport model, which combines the initial state interaction of the incoming photon with the final state interactions of the produced particles. The effects of final state interactions on the invariant mass distribution of the observed K+K- pairs are discussed in detail. In addition we calculate the Coulomb correction and possible effects of hadronic kaon potentials on the K+K- mass spectrum. Due to the large cross sections for reactions of the final state particles with the surrounding nuclear medium and the influence of the Coulomb potential we find no measurable sensitivity of the observables to the phi properties at finite baryon density., Comment: revtex4, 24 pages

45. Coupling of Baryon Resonances to the $N \omega$ channel

Abstract

We estimate the resonance coupling strength $f_{RN\omega}$ and $f_{RN\rho}$ from a Vector Meson Dominance (VMD) analysis. The isoscalar and isovector part of the photon coupling are obtained separately from helicity amplitudes. The reliability of this approach is tested by comparing VMD predictions for $f_{RN\rho}$ with values obtained from fitting the hadronic decay widths into $N \rho$. A reasonable agreement is found, but VMD tends to underestimate the coupling constants. In order to confirm consistency with experimental data, we calculate the cross-sections for photon-and pion induced reactions within a {\it Breit-Wigner} model. Finally, we study how the properties of $\omega$ mesons in nuclear matter are affected from the excitation of resonance-hole loops. Abstract

We calculate the spectral function $A_\rho$ of the $\rho$ meson in nuclear matter. The calculation is performed in the {\it low density} approximation, where the in-medium self energy $\Sigma_{med}$ is completely determined by the vacuum $\rho N$ forward scattering amplitude. This amplitude is derived from a relativistic resonance model. In comparison to previous non-relativistic calculations we find a much weaker momentum dependence of $\Sigma_{med}$, especially in the transverse channel. Special attention is paid to uncertainties in the model. 47. Coherent Photoproduction of Dileptons on Light Nuclei - a New Means to Learn about Vector Mesons

Abstract

In the last years much work has been done to learn about the properties of the $\rho$-meson in nuclear matter. In a calculation of the in-medium spectralfunction of the $\rho$ we find that it is strongly modified by baryonic resonances, especially the $D_{13}(1520)$, through its coupling to resonance-hole states. In order to test the predictions of a model for the in-medium properties of the $\rho$-meson so far mostly heavy-ion collision have been used. We argue that the coherent photoproduction of $\rho$-mesons yields additional information about the nature of the medium modification. It can be shown that the production amplitude is sensitive on the momentum dependence of the $\rho$-selfenergy. 50. The Spectral Function of the Rho Meson in Nuclear Matter

Abstract

We calculate the modification of a rho meson in nuclear matter through its coupling to resonance-hole states. Starting from a recently proposed model, we include all four star resonances up to 1.9 GeV. In contrast to previous works, we include not only resonances that couple to the rho in a relative p-wave, but also those that couple to an s-wave state. In addition, we solve the equation for the rho spectral function self-consistently. We find that s-wave resonances affect the in medium spectral function of the rho strongly. In the transverse channel the rho meson is, especially at non zero momentum, completely washed out and can in the presence of nuclear matter no longer be viewed as a resonant excitation of the vacuum. Instead, our model shows a continuum of possible excitations with the quantum numbers of a transversely polarized rho. In the longitudinal channel, however, the rho retains its resonant character in our calculation. As a consequence of the self-consistent treatment we also find a strong enhancement of the widths of the included nucleon resonances in medium., Comment: 27 pages, LaTex, 15 figures using epsfig.sty, submitted to Nuclear Physics A.
