Abstract

Se aborda el tema de la producción del color en Antofagasta de la Sierra a partir del análisis de la primera fuente de pigmentos minerales reconocida en la microrregión, emplazada en la Peña del Medio, Paicuqui. Se presenta información sobre el reconocimiento de espacios de circulación y posibles áreas de trabajo, las herramientas líticas y la composición de los colores. Se enfatiza la posición, el emplazamiento y el modo en que se presentan los colores en el paisaje. Junto a ello, se evalúan las posibilidades de consumo y circulación de minerales colorantes en la microrregión a partir de la determinación composicional de los pigmentos que se utilizaron en distintos contextos. Finalmente, proponemos que la multiplicidad de colores que confluyen en este espacio refuerza el carácter sagrado de este lugar y la noción de Paicuqui como un tinku, donde confluyen caminos, ancestros, aguas y colores.

5. Compositional study of slips and paintings in San José and Santa María pottery (Yocavil valley, Northwest Argentina): an approach by non-destructive and complementary techniques

Abstract

Abstract: From a multidisciplinary perspective, we propose a first comparative study on the pigments of archeological pottery San José and Santa María of Yocavil valley, Province of Catamarca, Northwest Argentina (ca. S XI–XVI AD). Both stylistic sets share a color palette in which the black, red and cream tones are structured. Considering that we are handling objects of cultural heritage, an analysis strategy was developed that combines non-destructive techniques (XRFp and XRD) and minimally destructive sampling methods with other techniques (EDS and micro-Raman spectroscopy) for the characterization of elements and crystalline phases in pigments. The results show not only some shared features—as hematite in red paints and cream slips resulting from a low-iron clay base preparation—but also some diversity in the composition of the pigments—as presence of rutile in some red paints and pyrolusite or series of solid solutions in the system manganese–iron oxides in black pigments. Abstract

En este trabajo presentamos los primeros resultados de las tareas de investigación iniciadas recientemente en la localidad de Paicuqui (Antofagasta de la Sierra, Catamarca, Puna Meridional), con el objetivo de establecer de manera preliminar la secuencia histórica relativa de ocupación de esta localidad, a la vez que comparar la misma con la información que se tiene de otras quebradas de la microrregión. Si bien la mayor parte de los trabajos fueron prospectivos, el registro obtenido resultó significativo en cuanto al volumen y variedad de datos que reflejan diversas situaciones contextuales y una perspectiva temporal amplia desde aproximadamente 5.000 años atrás hasta tiempos históricos (coloniales y, posiblemente, republicanos). Mostramos, entonces, un análisis preliminar de las evidencias recuperadas en Paicuqui, sus contextos y su articulación con la arqueología de otros sectores de Antofagasta de la Sierra, con el fin de realizar nuevos aportes sobre diversas problemáticas vinculadas con la interacción social, la producción y circulación de bienes, cosmovisión, espacios ritualizados y prácticas asociadas. In this paper we present the first results obtained from the research tasks recently initiated in Paicuqui (Antofagasta de la Sierra, province of Catamarca, Southern Puna), with the objective of establishing, at least preliminarily, the relative historic occupational se - quence of this locality, comparing it with the information registered in other ravines of this micro-region. While the activities where mainly focused in surface surveys, the obtained register is significant regarding the volume and variety of data reflecting diverse contextual situa - tions and a wide temporal perspective encompassing from 5.000 years ago until historical moments (colonial and, possibly, republican). Thus, we expose a prelimi - nary analysis of the evidences recovered in Paicuqui, their contexts, and its articulation with the archaeology of other sectors in Antofagasta de la Sierra, with the purpose of generating new contributions regarding issues related with social interaction, production and circulation of goods, worldview, ritualized spaces, and associated practices Fil: Cohen, Maria Lorena. Abstract

As it has been established that boron (B) may perform functions in angiogenesis and osteogenesis, the controlled and localized release of B ions from bioactive glasses (BGs) is expected to provide a promising therapeutic alternative for regenerative medicine of vascularized tissues, such as bone. The aim of this study was to assess the in vitro angiogenic effects of the ionic dissolution products (IDPs) from BGs in the SiO2–CaO–Na2O–P2O5 (45S5) system and of those from 45S5 BG doped with 2 wt% B2O3 (45S5.2B). The results show, for the first time, the IDPs from 45S5.2B BG stimulated human umbilical vein endothelial cell (HUVEC) proliferation and migration that were associated with phosphorylation of extracellular signal-related kinase (ERK) 1/2, focal adhesion kinase (FAK) and p38 protein. It was also shown that IDPs from 45S5.2B BG could enhance in vitro HUVEC tubule formation and secretion of interleukin 6 (IL6) and the basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF). The effects observed are attributed to the presence of B in the IDPs. These findings are relevant to bone tissue engineering and regeneration because the IDPs from 45S5.2B BG may act as inexpensive inorganic angiogenic agents providing a convenient alternative to the application of conventional angiogenic growth factors.

Abstract

El proceso angiogénico es crítico para la reparación y regeneración de tejidos. El objetivo del presente estudio in vitro fue evaluar los efectos pro-angiogénicos de los productos iónicos de disolución de vidrios bioactivos del sistema SiO2-CaO-Na2O-P2O5 (45S5) y modificado por boro (45S5.2B) sobre células endoteliales humanas. En comparación al control, las células estimuladas con los productos iónicos de disolución del vidrio 45S5.2B evidenciaron mayor capacidad de proliferación, migración y nivel de expresión de citoquinas IL6 y bFGF. 16. Angiogenic effects of ionic dissolution products released from a boron-doped 45S5 bioactive glass.

Abstract

In regenerative medicine of vascularized tissues, there is a great interest in the use of biomaterials that are able to stimulate angiogenesis, a process necessary for rapid revascularization to allow the transport and exchange of oxygen, nutrients, growth factors and cells that take part in tissue repair and/or regeneration. An increasing number of publications have shown that bioactive glasses stimulate angiogenesis. Because it has been established that boron (B) may play a role in angiogenesis, the aim of this study was to assess the in vivo angiogenic effects of the ionic dissolution products that from a bioactive glass (BG) in the 45S5 system doped with 2 wt% B2O3 (45S5.2B). The pro-angiogenic capacity of 45S5.2B BG was assessed on the vasculature of the embryonic quail chorioallantoic membrane (CAM). Ionic dissolution products from 45S5.2B BG increased angiogenesis. This is quantitatively evidenced by the greater expression of integrin αvβ3 and higher vascular density in the embryonic quail CAM. The response observed at 2 and 5 days post-treatment was equivalent to that achieved by applying 10 µg mL−1 of basic fibroblast growth factor. These results show that the ionic dissolution products released from the bioactive glass 45S5.2B stimulate angiogenesis in vivo. The effects observed are attributed to the presence the ionic dissolution products, which contained 160 ± 10 µM borate. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

18. Osteoconductivity of strontium‐doped bioactive glass particles: A histomorphometric study in rats.

Abstract

There is accumulating evidence that strontium (Sr)‐containing bioceramics have positive effects on bone tissue repair. The aims of the present study were to evaluate the osteoconductivity of Sr‐doped bioactive glass (BG) particles implanted in rat tibia bone marrow, and characterize the neoformed bone tissue by SEM‐energy‐dispersive X‐ray microanalysis. Melt‐derived BGs were prepared from a base 45S5 BG. Sr‐doped glass (45S5.6Sr) was prepared using 6 wt % SrO as a substitute for the CaO. Histological analysis using undecalcified sections showed that new lamellar bone had formed along the surface of both 45S5 and 45S5.6Sr BG particles within 4 weeks. To evaluate osteoconductivity, affinity indices were calculated. At 30 days after implantation, 45S5 and 45S5.6Sr BGs had almost identical affinity indices (88% ± 7% and 87% ± 9%; p > 0.05). Strontium was not detected in the neoformed bone tissue surrounding 45S5.6Sr BG particles. These results indicate that 45S5.6Sr BG particles are osteoconductive when implanted inside the intramedullary canal of rat tibiae, and no alterations in bone mineralization, in terms of Ca/P ratio, were observed in the neoformed bone tissue around 45S5.6Sr BG particles. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
