Pollott́s mechanistic model has been designed to describe lactation curve parameters based on the known biology of milk production and can be useful for analyzing the factors that affect this process. A total of 553 lactations (9956 weekly test-day records) of crossbred dairy sheep from four commercial farms located in Mexico, were analyzed to investigate environmental factors that influenced lactation curve parameters, using Pollott’s 5-parameter additive model. This model was fitted to each lactation using an iterative nonlinear procedure. The estimated parameters were maximum milk secretion potential (MSmax), relative rate of increase in cell differentiation (GR), maximum secretion loss (MSLmax), relative rate of decline in cell numbers (DR) and the proportion of parenchyma cells dead at parturition. A general linear model procedure was used to determine the effect of type of lambing, lambing number, flock and lambing season on total lactation milk yield (TMY), lactation length and estimated parameters of the Pollott model. En instituciones de salud pública que atiende a niños y adolescentes, es indispensable garantizar la calidad de sus servicios pero mucho más aun el costo de mantener esa calidad. Es por ello que el objetivo fundamental de esta investigación fue determinar los costos de calidad del servicio de laboratorio clínico y diseñar una metodología para la determinación de estos costos. Para alcanzar este propósito se realizó un estudio considerado exploratorio y descriptivo, bajo un estudio de caso, dentro del cual se utilizó la observación y la entrevista como instrumentos de recolección de datos, obteniendo como resultado que se dan dos procesos medulares en la prestación del servicio, uno para pacientes ambulatorios y otro para hospitalizados. Se identificaron para ambos procesos un total de 162 exámenes y 6 actividades que se realizan aunado a un conjunto de tareas, las cuales fueron agrupadas en función de la teoría del costo de calidad en prevención, evaluación y fallas internas; sin existir para este caso de estudio las fallas externas. Según los resultados obtenidos se considera al laboratorio clínico en un nivel de calidad óptimo, Lo cual se refleja en sus costos 11% del costo total del servicio y 56% corresponden a costos de prevención; justificándose plenamente para disminuir el riesgo de errores en el servicio.In institutions of public health that attends to children and teenagers, it is indispensable to guarantee the quality of their services but much more even the cost of supporting this quality. There were identified for both processes a whole of 162 examinations and 6 activities that are realized united to a set of tasks, which were grouped depending on the theory of the qualit cost in prevention, evaluation and internal faults; without the external faults exist for this case of study. According to the obtained results it is considered to the clinical laboratory in an ideal level of quality, Which reflects in their costs 12% of the total cost of the service and 56% correspond to costs of prevention; justifying to diminish the risk of mistakes in the service.

Para analizar los canales y márgenes de comercialización del queso añejo, en 2007 se realizó una investigación en el municipio de Zacazonapan, México, en la cual se identificó el canal de comercialización más utilizado en este tipo de queso por los productores, y se estimaron los márgenes absoluto y relativo, a través de los valores equivalentes, costos y ganancias de cada agente participante. El 83,3% de los queseros ocupó el primer eslabón de la cadena producción-consumo y los intermediarios el 16,7%. Los primeros participaron en 100% del precio que pagó el consumidor final y los segundos con 33,4%. El margen bruto de comercialización del queso añejo en su modalidad madurado (8 días de maduración) fue 5,59 US$/kg; que en términos relativos significa que el quesero se apropió 58,29% del precio final que pagó el consumidor y los intermediarios 45,16%. Respecto al valor del queso madurado, el quesero se apropió de 41,71% y el resto los intermediarios. El canal de comercialización más común fue productor (quesero)-consumidor final. In order to analyze margins and commercialization channels of añejo cheese, during 2007 a research was carried out in Zacazonapan, Mexico. The commercialization channel more used by producers in this kind of cheese was identified, and relative and absolute margins were obtained using equivalent values, revenues, and cost of each agent. Results indicates that 83.3% of cheese makers obtained the first step of consumptionproduction chain and 16.7% was occupied by brokers, in the same way, first of them get 100% of price that final consumer paid and the seconds 33.4%. The gross total commercialization margin of añejo cheese in its modalities mature (8 days of mature) was 5.59 US$/kg; in relative words it means that the cheese producer give him 58.29% of final price that the consumer paid and the brokers 45.16%. Respect to the same value of cheese mature, the cheese producer give him 41.71% and the difference was obtained by brokers. Commercialization channel most common was producer-final consumer.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the environmental factors affecting lactation curve parameters derived from a biological model. The biological approach to lactation curve fitted 2 logistic curves to mimic the initial increase in milk secretory cell numbers in early lactation, and the progression of apoptosis in late lactation. Records from 182,987 Holstein-Friesian cows were analysed. Main factors such as cow, herd and lactation number accounted for 74% of the total sum of squares (P < 0.001). The average age at first calving was 28 months; which had a significant effect on all curve parameters. Increments of age at first calving from 20 to 40 months, were associated with linear increments in total milk yield, and calculated total milk yield. Parameters from the increasing phase of lactation such as maximum secretion potential, growing midpoint from start of lactation to peak yield, and peak yield, were highly correlated amongst themselves (> 0.60). Curve parameters, maximum secretion potential and peak yield were highly correlated indicating that these two parameters are practically the same. Additionally, high estimates of maximum secretion potential and peak yield resulted in high total milk yield. The early day of peak had an adverse effect over persistency of lactation given by the high correlation between day of peak and persistency (0.64). Cow, herd, lactation number and age at first calving were the most determining factors on the lactation curve of first calving and multiparous dairy cows. El objetivo del trabajo fue determinar los factores ambientales que determinan los parámetros de la curva de lactación utilizando un modelo biológico de ajuste de curva. El modelo propuesto ajusta dos curvas logísticas que simulan el incremento inicial en el número de células secretoras de leche en la lactación temprana, y la progresión de la apoptosis en la lactación tardía. Se analizaron lactaciones de 182.987 vacas Holstein-Friesian. Los factores vaca, rebaño y número de lactación explican el 74% de la suma total de cuadrados (P < 0,001). La edad promedio a primer parto fue de 28 meses, teniendo un efecto significativo sobre la mayoría de los parámetros de la curva. Incrementos en la edad a primer de parto (20-40 meses) fueron asociados con incrementos lineales en los rendimientos totales de leche. Los parámetros tasa máxima de secreción y máximo de lactación estuvieron altamente correlacionados entre sí, indicando que son virtualmente los mismos. Adicionalmente, altos valores de estos dos parámetros indican altos rendimientos totales de leche. El día del máximo de lactación se correlacionó negativamente (0,64) con persistencia de la lactación. Los factores vaca, rebaño número de lactación y edad a primer parto fueron los factores más determinantes sobre los parámetros de la curva de lactación de vacas de primera lactancia así como de lactaciones múltiples.
