The paper focuses on the study of radiation resistance of composite scintillators containing the grains of Y₂SiO₅:Ce or Y₃Al₅O₁₂:Ce. The paper compares the results obtained for composite scintillators when the grains were made in two ways: (i) by grinding the ingots of the above substances those were obtained by solid phase synthesis, and (ii) by grinding the single crystals growing from the melt. The samples were irradiated by 8.3 MeV beam electrons (at the dose rate 1500 Mrad/h). The paper presents the photoluminescence spectra and values of the relative detection efficiency of beta-radiation of the scintillators measured before and after irradiation by accumulated dose D of 30 and 50 Mrad.

Radiation-resistant composite scintillators based on grains of inorganic single crystals of the yttrium orthosilicate Y₂SiO₅:Ce and yttrium aluminium garnet Y₃Al₅5O₁₂:Ce were studied. The irradiation of the samples by KIPT 10 MeV electron Linac causes the dose rate of 1,500 Mrad/h or 0.1 Mrad/h when it is 9.2 MeV beam electrons or bremsstrahlung photons, respectively. We run the measurements of light transmittance, luminescence spectra and scintillation light outputs of a scintillator before and after irradiation. The paper presents and analyzes the results obtained for scintillators exposed to doses about 25 Mrad (the dose rate is 0.1 Mrad/h) and 150 Mrad (the dose rate is 1,500 Mrad/h). Досліджені на радіаційну стійкість композиційні сцинтилятори на основі гранул неорганічних монокристалів Y₂SiO₅:Ce та Y₃Al₅5O₁₂:Ce. Для отримання композиційних сцинтиляторів гранули були введено в діелектричну гель-композицію Sylgard-184. Зразки опромінювалися на електронному (10~МеВ) лінійному прискорювачі ХФТІ безпосередньо електронами пучка з енергією 9,2~МеВ (при потужності дози 1500~Мрад/год.) і гальмівними фотонами (при потужності дози 0,1~Мрад/год.). Значення пропускання світла, люмінесценції та світлового виходу вимірювалися до і після опромінення. Представлені та проаналізовані результати, отримані для сцинтиляторів, опромінених до доз 25~Мрад при темпі 0,1~Мрад/год. та 150~Мрад при темпі 1500~Мрад/год. Для получения композиционного сцинтиллятора зерна были введены в диэлектрическую гель-композицию Sylgard-184. Образцы облучались на электронном (10~МэВ) линейном ускорителе ХФТИ непосредственно электронами пучка с энергией 9,2~МэВ (при мощности дозы 1500~Мрад/ч) и тормозными фотонами (при мощности дозы 0,1~Мрад/ч). Значения пропускания света, люминесценции и светового выхода измерялись до и после облучения. Представлены и проанализированы результаты, полученные для сцинтилляторов, облученных до доз 25~Мрад при темпе 0,1~Мрад/ч и 150~Мрад при темпе 1500~Мрад/ч.

Two CMS Endcap hadron calorimeters (HE) have been in operation for several years and contributed substantially to the success of the CMS Physics Program. The HE calorimeter suffered more from the radiation than it had been anticipated because of rapid degradation of scintillator segments (tiles) which have a high radiation flux of secondary particles. Some investigations of scintillators have shown that the degradation of plastic scintillator increases significantly at low dose rates. A proposal to upgrade up-grade the HE calorimeter has been prepared to provide a solution for survivability of the future LHC at higher luminosity and higher energy. A finger-strip plastic scintillator option has many advantages and is a lower cost alternative to keep the excellent HE performance at high luminosity. Measurements have been performed and this method has proved to be a good upgrade strategy.

The results of the works, which have been carried out in NSC KIPT, on creation of a stationary technological Compton scattering tomograph are submitted. Modeling physical processes under program GEANT 3 is carried out, the design of a tomograph for a case of use is determined as a source of photons of the accelerator Van de Graaf on energy 3 MeV. Tests results of a tomograph work on a photon beam of the source ¹³⁷Cs are submitted. Представлено результати виконаних у ННЦ ХФТІ робіт по створенню стаціонарного технологічного комптонівського томографа. Проведено моделювання фізичних процесів по програмі GEANT 3, визначено конструкцію томографа для випадку використання як джерело фотонів прискорювача Ван де Граафа на енергію 3 МеВ. Представлено результати випробування роботи томографа на пучку фотонів джерела ¹³⁷Cs. Представлены разультаты выполненных в ННЦ ХФТИ работ по созданию стационарного технологического комптоновского томографа. Проведено моделирование физических процессов по программе GEANT 3, определена конструкция томографа для случая использования в качестве источника фотонов ускорителя Ван де Граафа на энергию 3 МэВ. Представлены результаты испытания работы томографа на пучке фотонов источника ¹³⁷Cs.
