Abstract

It is shown that a diamagnetic structure (DS) of the slow solar wind (SW), the source of which on the Sun was a chain of streamers, arrived at Earth’s orbit on December 22, 2015. It interacted with Earth’s magnetosphere under conditions when the northward Bz component of the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) remained for a long time in preceding undisturbed SW. The interaction and a sharp change in the direction of Bz to the south generated an isolated substorm whose duration depends on the duration of interaction with the DS. The substorm began at midday with the passage of the DS into the magnetosphere and spread to the east. All phases of the substorm — growth, expansion, and recovery — were observed for two hours. Variations in the SW and IMF parameters are shown to coincide for the isolated substorm whose energy source was the slow solar wind DS, and a trigger was the abrupt change in the direction of the vertical IMF component from north to south. The coincidence is justified by statistical generalizations of the same parameters in 40 % of cases of long-term observations of individual substorms whose trigger was a change in Bz direction.

12. From K.A.M. Tori to Isospectral Invariants and Spectral Rigidity of Billiard Tables

Abstract

This article is a part of a project investigating the relationship between the dynamics of completely integrable or close to completely integrable billiard tables, the integral geometry on them, and the spectrum of the corresponding Laplace-Beltrami operators. It is concerned with new isospectral invariants and with the spectral rigidity problem for families of Laplace-Beltrami operators with Dirichlet, Neumann or Robin boundary conditions, associated with C^1 families of billiard tables. We introduce a notion of weak isospectrality for such deformations. The main dynamical assumption on the initial billiard table is that the corresponding billiard ball map or an iterate of it has a Kronecker invariant torus with a Diophantine frequency and that the corresponding Birkhoff Normal Form is nondegenerate in Kolmogorov sense. Then we obtain C^1 families of Kronecker tori with Diophantine frequencies. If the family of the Laplace-Beltrami operators satisfies the weak isospectral condition, we prove that the average action on the tori and the Birkhoff Normal Form of the billiard ball maps remain the same along the perturbation. As an application we obtain infinitesimal spectral rigidity for Liouville billiard tables in dimensions two and three. Applications are obtained also for strictly convex billiard tables of dimension two as well as in the case when the initial billiard table admits an elliptic periodic billiard trajectory. Abstract

The notion of a Radon transform is introduced for completely integrable billiard tables. In the case of Liouville billiard tables of dimension 3 we prove that the Radon transform is one-to-one on the space of continuous functions $K$ on the boundary which are invariant with respect to the corresponding group of symmetries. We prove also that the frequency map associated with a class of Liouville billiard tables is non-degenerate. This allows us to obtain spectral rigidity of the corresponding Laplace-Beltrami operator with Robin boundary conditions.

Abstract

We introduce a notion of weak isospectrality for continuous deformations. Consider the Laplace-Beltrami operator on a compact Riemannian manifold with boundary with Robin boundary conditions. Given a Kronecker invariant torus $\Lambda$ of the billiard ball map with a vector of rotation satisfying a Diophantine condition we prove that certain integrals on $\Lambda$ involving the function in the Robin boundary conditions remain constant under weak isospectral deformations. To this end we construct continuous families of quasimodes associated with $\Lambda$. We obtain also isospectral invariants of the Laplacian with a real-valued potential on a compact manifold for continuous deformations of the potential. As an application we prove spectral rigidity in the case of Liouville billiard tables of dimension two.

Austria, Czechia, Greece (Samos), Serbia (Vujić et al., 2008; Vujić et al., 2013; Speight, 2020; Vujić & Milić, 2021; Wakkie, 2021); Ukraine (first record). This European localized endemic is regarded as endangered at the global and European level (Vujić & Milić, 2021). D i a g n o s i s. Species of the Pipiza luteitarsis group to which P. luteibarba belongs are characterized by lacking a pair of ventral longitudinal ridges at the distal end of hind femora (in other Palaearctic Pipiza species, distal end of hind femora ventrally with a pair of distinct, longitudinal ridges) and ventral part of the postpedicel reddish (in other Pipiza species, postpedicel dark). In the male genitalia, lower gonocercus of hypandrium is very short, about 1/3 length of theca (in other Pipiza species, hypandrium always has long lower gonocercus, in lateral view it is about 3/4 length of theca) (Vujić et al., 2008; Vujić et al., 2013). The other known European species of the Pipiza luteitarsus group are P. accola, P. luteitarsis, and P. quadrimaculata. The male of Pipiza luteibarba differs from P. quadrimaculata (Panzer, 1802) male by antennae inserted in upper half of the head (lateral view) (in P. quadrimaculata, antennae inserted just below middle of the head) and abdomen elongated (in P. quadrimaculata, abdomen broadly ovoid). From the most similar P. accola Violovitsh, 1985 and P. luteitarsis Zetterstedt, 1843, P. luteibarba can be distinguished by face with pale pile (figs 31–33) (in other species, face predominantly with black pile; however, we have some specimens of P. accola in which face predominantly with pale pile); postpedicel elongated, almost 1.5 times longer than wide (figs 32–33) (in other species, postpedicel short, oval, wider than long); tarsi yellow, only metatarsus of hind legs darkened (figs 29, 33) (in other species, tarsi of all legs partly darkened or at least of middle and hind legs); tergite 2 with long hairs that stick out (in other species, tergite 2 without long hairs sticking out); basal part of surstylus with well-developed semicircular lobe (in other species, basal part of surstylus with reduced (P. luteitarsis) or with small basal semicircular lobe, as in P. accola). Abstract

Background: The multimorbid burden and use of systemic immunosuppressants in people with psoriasis may confer greater risk of adverse outcomes of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), but the data are limited. Objective: Our aim was to characterize the course of COVID-19 in patients with psoriasis and identify factors associated with hospitalization. Methods: Clinicians reported patients with psoriasis with confirmed/suspected COVID-19 via an international registry, Psoriasis Patient Registry for Outcomes, Therapy and Epidemiology of COVID-19 Infection. Multiple logistic regression was used to assess the association between clinical and/or demographic characteristics and hospitalization. A separate patient-facing registry characterized risk-mitigating behaviors. Results: Of 374 clinician-reported patients from 25 countries, 71% were receiving a biologic, 18% were receiving a nonbiologic, and 10% were not receiving any systemic treatment for psoriasis. In all, 348 patients (93%) were fully recovered from COVID-19, 77 (21%) were hospitalized, and 9 (2%) died. Increased hospitalization risk was associated with older age (multivariable-adjusted odds ratio [OR] = 1.59 per 10 years; 95% CI = 1.19-2.13), male sex (OR = 2.51; 95% CI = 1.23-5.12), nonwhite ethnicity (OR = 3.15; 95% CI = 1.24-8.03), and comorbid chronic lung disease (OR = 3.87; 95% CI = 1.52-9.83). Hospitalization was more frequent in patients using nonbiologic systemic therapy than in those using biologics (OR = 2.84; 95% CI = 1.31-6.18). No significant differences were found between classes of biologics. Independent patient-reported data (n = 1626 across 48 countries) suggested lower levels of social isolation in individuals receiving nonbiologic systemic therapy than in those receiving biologics (OR = 0.68; 95% CI = 0.50-0.94). Abstract

We consider an elastic cylinder with regard for its weight. The conditions of sliding fixing are imposed on the lower base of the cylinder, its upper base is subjected to the action of an axisymmetric normal load, and the lateral surface is fixed. The Hankel integral transform is used to reduce the problem to an integral equation of the first kind for normal stresses acting on the fixed cylindrical surface. After finding the singularities of the unknown function, the solution of the integral equation is sought in the form of a series in Jacobi polynomials. Abstract

Objective: To document the recovery of vascular services in Europe following the first COVID-19 pandemic peak. Methods: An online structured vascular service survey with repeated data entry between 23 March and 9 August 2020 was carried out. Unit level data were collected using repeated questionnaires addressing modifications to vascular services during the first peak (March – May 2020, “period 1”), and then again between May and June (“period 2”) and June and July 2020 (“period 3”). The duration of each period was similar. From 2 June, as reductions in cases began to be reported, centres were first asked if they were in a region still affected by rising cases, or if they had passed the peak of the first wave. These centres were asked additional questions about adaptations made to their standard pathways to permit elective surgery to resume. Results: The impact of the pandemic continued to be felt well after countries’ first peak was thought to have passed in 2020. Aneurysm screening had not returned to normal in 21.7% of centres. Carotid surgery was still offered on a case by case basis in 33.8% of centres, and only 52.9% of centres had returned to their normal aneurysm threshold for surgery. Half of centres (49.4%) believed their management of lower limb ischaemia continued to be negatively affected by the pandemic. Reduced operating theatre capacity continued in 45.5% of centres. Twenty per cent of responding centres documented a backlog of at least 20 aortic repairs. At least one negative swab and 14 days of isolation were the most common strategies used for permitting safe elective surgery to recommence. Conclusion: Centres reported a broad return of services approaching pre-pandemic “normal” by July 2020. Many introduced protocols to manage peri-operative COVID-19 risk. Backlogs in cases were reported for all major vascular surgeries.
