Abstract

The interconnected capacity and transmission cost allocation is tackled in this paper. Two methods are involved: distribution factors and equivalent bilateral methods. For the beginning, the mathematical model, allocation methods and software tool are presented. In the following, a comparison between the two allocation methods is performed. Three power system operating conditions are analysed. Real large scale case study has been used. It has been modelled based on the Western, South-Western sides of the Romanian Power System. Useful results for interconnection capacities allocated to generators and their related cost have been provided.

3. Experimental approach about fracture process in timber elements under mechano-sorptive effects

Abstract

This paper deals with the fracture problem in timber structures subject to mechanical and climatic loadings. Mechanical tests illustrate local and global fracture properties at different moisture content levels on DCB specimens of douglas fire. It is shown the dependence of moisture content in terms of compliance and energy release rate. To highlight the hygro-mechanical coupling, tests employ an electromechanical press associated with an environmental chamber in which humidity and air temperature are regulated. Two families of tests are performed, the first in dry state conditions and the second in a wet state conditions. The main objective of this paper is to fix first experimental results in order to integrate, in future works, mechano-sorptive effects on the crack growth process by taking into account moisture content variations in the crack tip vicinity associated with sorption kinetics.

Abstract

Usually the element of real structures is subject of the mixed mode loadings. This fact can be explained by the elements geometry and the loading orientations. In this case the propagation of the eventual cracks is characterised by the mixed mode kinematics. In order to characterize the fracture process in mixed mode it’s necessary to separate the fracture process in order to evaluate the influence of each mode. Our study is limited to plane configurations. The mixed mode is considered as an association of opening and shear modes. The mixed mode fracture is evaluated trough the experimental tests using the SEN specimen for different mixed mode ratios. The fracture process separation is operated by the invariant integral Mθ. Moreover, our study regroups an experimental and a numerical approaches.

Abstract

Due to the complex wood anatomy and the loading orientation, the timber elements are subjected to a mixed-mode fracture. In these conditions, the crack tip advance is characterized by mixed-mode kinematics. In order to characterize the fracture process function versus the loading orientation, a new mixed-mode crack growth timber specimen is proposed. In the present paper, the design process and the experimental validation of this specimen are proposed. Using experimental results, the energy release rate is calculated for several modes. The calculi consist on the separation of each fracture mode. The design of the specimen is based on the analytical approach and numerical simulation by finite element method. The specimen particularity is the stability of the crack propagation under a force control.

Abstract

The possibilities of the proposed statistical approach are shown in the task of investigating the post-scission transformation of mass and charge yields of fission fragments with considering the emission of different length of chains of elementary particles as the beta particles and neutrons fission. Using as the example the 232 Th isotope, which is located on the border between pre-actinide and actinides nuclei, the changes in the topology of fission fragments yields, the role of emission of nuclear particles in the competition of symmetric and asymmetric modes in fission processes are investigated. The proposed method allows one to determine the most probable two fission's fragments clusters, obtained in considering the different chain's length of emitted nuclear particles and the parameters of their stability. Abstract

A new statistical approach is proposed, which allows modeling the stages of the creation of bioorganic molecules. Its basis is color statistics, which considers the non-equivalence of atoms with different bond energies in the structure of a biomolecule. The calculation was carried out on the example of amino acids within the Ball and Stick model; estimated energy and entropy parameters of biomolecular structures forming during their creation. The concepts of color sets of atoms are introduced, which determine the nature of the structural arrangement of their molecules and the configurational entropy. Data on the information capacity of amino acids, essential for understanding their role in biota, are presented for the first time. The possibilities of 3D computer simulation of structural transformations of amino acids based on the Unity platform are demonstrated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

We have studied the luminescent properties of MgO ⋅ 2.5Al2O3 nonstoichiometric spinel irradiated in direct and scattered beams by 12-MeV electrons accelerated in an M-30 microtron. It is established that the kinetics of irradiation-induced phosphorescence decay is described by the Beckuerel hyperbola with an exponent increasing with the electron fluence. The laws of thermoluminescence peak variation in 110—250°C temperature interval were also studied depending on the irradiation dose. It is concluded that the behavior of this peak can be used for clinical and technological diagnostics of pulsed electron beams. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: Immune paresis in patients with acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) accounts for infection susceptibility and increased mortality. Immunosuppressive mononuclear CD14+HLA-DR- myeloid-derived suppressor cells (M-MDSCs) have recently been identified to quell antimicrobial responses in immune-mediated diseases. We sought to delineate the function and derivation of M-MDSC in patients with ACLF, and explore potential targets to augment antimicrobial responses. DESIGN: Patients with ACLF (n=41) were compared with healthy subjects (n=25) and patients with cirrhosis (n=22) or acute liver failure (n=30). CD14+CD15-CD11b+HLA-DR- cells were identified as per definition of M-MDSC and detailed immunophenotypic analyses were performed. Suppression of T cell activation was assessed by mixed lymphocyte reaction. Assessment of innate immune function included cytokine expression in response to Toll-like receptor (TLR-2, TLR-4 and TLR-9) stimulation and phagocytosis assays using flow cytometry and live cell imaging-based techniques. RESULTS: Circulating CD14+CD15-CD11b+HLA-DR- M-MDSCs were markedly expanded in patients with ACLF (55% of CD14+ cells). Abstract

This paper looks at how demographic knowledge was articulated in the 1970s in Romania in a context shaped by both a restrictive natalist agenda and the reestablishment of institutional affiliations with western academia. An account is given of the specific institutional affiliations that coordinated and made knowledge transfers possible between French and Romanian agencies. The text then focuses on the specific vocabulary and reasoning mechanisms employed in a series of texts published throughout the 1970s in the sociological journal Viitorul Social, a monthly magazine of socialist doctrine, culture and politics. The aim is to start a discussion about the possibility that the reestablishment of institutional connections with French demographic trends in the early ᾿70s lent Romanian demographers a type of conservative scientific reasoning and vocabulary that was attuned to the natalist politics of the time. In turn, this authorised a highly politicised portrayal of working-class women as culpable for the diminishing birth-rates in Romania. The text ends by suggesting other research paths that might help situate demographic knowledge production and its ties with reproduction politics.
